Illito would have happily spent the hour between the present and the senior staff meeting in an hour talking with Pai, but he had things to do, and so did she. They spent some time talking, but then Illito returned to the quiet of sorting supplies and the chaos of doing physicals and handling the one injuried crewmember.
Since the ship was smaller, Illito had a much smaller staff than she'd had way back when she'd been on the Scavenger, the first Scavenger. Which was theoretically quite doable, since the overall staff of the ship was also much smaller. It would require some working on, though, because the ship still had to be prepared for the same eventualities. And Illito wasn't used to working with a smaller group and less resources.
She had ten minutes to go until the senior staff meeting when she met her new Assistant Chief Medical Officer. Lieutenant Avel had transferred off, taking with him a lot of difficult moments. Illito was running a diagnostic on the third of the biobeds, when she heard someone clear their throat. Illito looked up to meet the gaze of a human female. “How can I help you?” Illito asked, smiling somewhat.
The one advantage of being the Cardassian on the crew was that everybody who talked to her was aware going into the conversation that she was the Chief Medical Officer. Otherwise, Illito supposed she may have gotten some looks, because she was fairly young for her position. “Are you Commander Tintagel?” the blonde human asked.
“That's me,” Illito replied.
“Oh good. I'm the new Assistant CMO, Lieutenant Lexine Cyneburg.”
Illito took the proffered hand, and shook it. “Welcome aboard,” she said. “I'm afraid I don't have long, there's a meeting I have to leave for in five minutes.”
Lieutenant Cyneburg nodded. “That's fine. I just dropped in because I wanted to look at the sickbay before I got settled into my quarters.” She shrugged, not at all embarrassed by her admission.
Illito smiled in return. “It meet your standards?” she asked.
“Oh, yes, of course. I didn't think there was much chance of it not. So, we'll talk later about what you'll want me to do?”
Illito affirmed that would be fine, and then Lieutenant Cyneburg left about as suddenly as she had come. Illito confirmed the results of the diagnostic which had been running while she talked, then headed off to the meeting.
The meeting included some expected news, and some unexpected. For a moment, Illito wasn't sure she could call this ship the Scavenger when it so clearly wasn't, but it was pointless to feel an emotional connection to a name, of all things. When Acting Captain Parsons—again—asked if anyone had any questions, Illito did not. Although the new Chief Science Officer, Ensign Gheskori, Illito seemed to recall having seen his name was, and she made a mental note to introduce herself to him after the meeting, did have one, regarding the future Commanding Officer of the...Scavenger.

The senior staff filed out of the briefing room. Ghes could feel the atmosphere among them, but couldn't feel involved. He got the impression that this group of people had been through a lot in the past weeks and months, and now that had been capped by the loss of their Captain.
Looking at the rest of the staff as they all dispersed over the bridge, some to the turbolifts, some to stations on the bridge itself, he noticed what looked like the ship's Doctor. Not hesitating to introduce himself, he walked over and caught her just before the turbolift.
"Hello Doctor.. Tintagel is it?" He greeted her. She was a Cardassian, he realised. That amused him, the Denobulans had quite similar facial features to the Cardassians in that they both had ridges running up the side of the face, and a slightly blocky chin was present in both species also.

They stepped into the turbolift and Tintagel ordered for the Main Sickbay. Ghes found his interest piqued by the prospect of visiting it, genetics was a field of interest to him, perhaps the Doctor had some specimens he could work with....? Ghes remembered he had yet to introduce himself.
"I'm the new Science chief, Ensign... Lieutenant Gheskori," he said, remembering that he had just received his field promotion, "I hope we can work well together, sir."

After the meeting, Illito completely forgot about her plan to hang around afterward and meet the new person. Fortunately, though, he caught her before she entered the turbolift. “Hello Doctor.. Tintagel is it?” he said.
“That's me,” she said, before stepping into the turbolift and stating her location.
“I'm the new Science chief, Ensign... Lieutenant Gheskori,” he said. “I hope we can work well together, sir.”
Illito smiled. “Me too,” she said. “Welcome aboard.” She noted that Lieutenant Gheskori hadn't spoken a location for himself to go to, and decided that it was never too early to try to fulfil her duties as Chief Medical Officer. “I don't suppose I could interest you coming to sickbay and getting your physical out of the way, could I?” Illito asked. “It'll save you from having to be hassled by me later.”

Hmmm, Ghes thought. A physical had not been what he had intended to go to sickbay for. He could hardly refuse the Cardassian Doctor, he just hoped there wouldn't be much physical contact involved, Denobulans didn't like to be touched. That was something that had happened to the new Science officer already on this ship.
"That would be fine," he said to Tintagel as happily as possible. Besides, he thought, he could still explore sickbay while he was there. The possibility of looking around sickbay then far overpowered any sense of apprehension he was also experiencing. He hoped to have a few discussions with the good Doctor as well, he wondered if she had much of an interest in genetics.
The turbolift came to a halt a few seconds later and the doors swished open. "After you Doctor." Gheskori said. They arrived at the sickbay in moments and Ghes was directed to a biobed. While he waited his eyes were inexorably dragged around the room, as he looked for things of interest. All in good time, he thought.
Before Ghes got too interested in the sickbay, Doctor Tintagel came out of her office. Not at all nervous, Ghes asked as she approached, "Where do we start?"

"Any questions?" Parsons had asked at the close of the briefing.
The new Chief Science Officer had one. "I think the first question on our minds Commander is.. who is to be the Commanding Officer of this new ship?"
"Well, Mr. Gheskori, for the time being, I am. Starfleet is working on a permanent replacement," the Acting Captain responded with as much information as he had.
With no other questions, Adam cleared his throat and stood. Mr. Gheskori, please step forward. The Denobulan approached the commander somewhat cautiously. Parsons then produced a gold pip and announced. "Ensign Gheskori, in recognition of your expertise in your field and your recent assignment as Chief Science Officer, Starfleet has seen fit to promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade."
The senior staff watched as Parsons pinned the gold pip onto Gheskori's collar adding it to the black one already in place. "Congratulations Lieutenant," the Acting Captain said as the ship's senior officers broke into applause. "There will be a reception for Lieutenant Gheskori in the officer's mess at 1900." With that the officers exited the conference room and Parsons took his place on the bridge.

Luke sat in his temporary quarters on the Assailant, looking blankly out of the window. He knew, deep down, that this was the right move, but it didn't make it any easier. When Command had approached him only a week before, he had been reluctant, almost to the point of out right refusal. But over the days that had followed he knew that it was something that he just had to do, after all, it was he who was responsible for it all. He smiled to himself as he thought about the faces of those he was going to see but the smile soon turned to a frown as he thought of those we was to be leaving behind, those that he couldn't even give an explanation to, not even a lie. He was supposed to just dissapear. An act that he thought he had left long behind him. Standing to his feet he placed the final things he would take with him in the small case and removed his comm badge from his chest. Looking in the mirror opposite he could be any other civilian, nothing about him said Starfleet. His hair was long and untidy, his face, unshaven. His civilian clothes were old and had seen better days but for the first time in months he felt comfortable. This was the right thing to do. He left the quarters, unlocked - there was nothing in there worthy of being taken, and began the walk to the Shuttlebay. He would be taken a Runabout to his destination where it would be destroyed by the ship picking him up. People had to assume that he was either dead, or abducted or else someone sooner or later might end up looking for him. He reached the Shuttlebay and was pleased to see that, as promised, there was no one there. Totally against regulations of course but this all had to be done as secretly as possible. He approached the Shuttle that he knew to be the one he was to take and was shocked when he heard someone move from within. He withdrew a small, old phaser from his pocket and pointed it at the doorway.
"OUT." He commanded, loudly and with authority.
The person inside must've guessed he wasn't playing around as there was an instant flurry of movement and out came none other than...
"Max, what the hell are you playing at?!" Luke snapped, confused as to whether he should be annoyed or extremely happy. He had not seen his friend since the destruction of the Scavenger, in fact he had assumed that he had been reassinged.
"Saying goodbye of course." He grinned, a smile that literally was contagious.
"How did you find out I was leaving?" Luke said, well aware that he wasn't going to get an answer.
"When something is important enough you make sure you find it out." He replied.
"You know you can't come with me."
"I know. No harm in trying though right?"
"I'm going to miss you."
"Emotion? From Drago? I don't believe it!" Max cried out mockingly. "Back in the days when it was my Luke, not this Lex, then maybe. But now? NEVER!"
"I'm serious Max... Thank you."
Max appeared to be scratching his eye and awkwardly shifted from foot to foot. "I don't know what I'll do." He said.
"I'm sure you'll figure it out."
"What if you don't..."
"Let's see shall we."
"How long?"
"6 months they reckon, I think more. We'll see."
"I'm going to miss you too."
The stared at each other and then embraced. Luke whispered in Max's ear. "In another time, who knows what could've happened."
"Nah, you always had Amy." Max replied, still not letting Luke go.
"Who was there with me? You." Luke sighed and rested his head on Max's shoulder.
"One day." Max offered quietly.
"One day." Luke replied.
They broke apart and Luke entered the Runabout and closed the door without looking back. Making sure that everything was in order he entered in the initial launch codes and set about his journey.
"Computer. Recognise voice pattern and authorisation code Drago Nine One Four Seven Gamma, prepare for immediate launch and clearance from Assailant."
=^= Acknowledged. You are cleared =^=
As the Runabout gracefully glided out of her hanger and jumped to warp Luke closed his eyes and for the first time in years, he prayed.
