With the release of the minutes, another explanation/info message. In retrospect it is a good thing my night out got cancelled last night or I would be in no state to do all this!
OK, the other thing that got discussed last weekend was the fleet command structure, with the merger of the four ships we have been left with a smaller and more condensed fleet. As such it was decided that we needed to take a look at the structure of the fleet command and make some necessary changes.
The first decision we made is have just one Squad as part of one Fleet, rather than the old two Squads. This now means that Beta Squadron has been closed down, and only ships are now part of Alpha Squadron.
The decision we have made is to introduce four fleet command positions, Fleet CO, Fleet XO, Squad CO and Squad XO who will be responsible for the general day to day running of the fleet and its business.
The new duties of the positions are as
Fleet Commander - ultimate command and responsibility for the fleet, will represent fleet interests to the CSS, attending the monthly meeting and provide a full fleet report to the CSS every three months. This position should not go to a CSS member, rather the Fleet CO will act as an independent advisor. The Fleet CO will be a member with at least three years service with the site and a proven track record of command with a minimum rank of Rear Admiral
Fleet Executive Officer - act as a support to the Fleet CO and will be more involved with the day to day business of the fleet. They will provide monthly fleet reports to the Section Admiral, Personnel Officer and Fleet CO. As with the Fleet CO this post will go to a long serving member with command experience, but will have a minimum rank of Commodore, a CSS member would also be able to hold this position .
Squad Commander - responsible for day to day running of the fleet, providing help and support to the Captains. They will be in regular contact with each ship and will collect and produce ship reports from the fleet and forward onto the Fleet XO. A CSS member would be able to hold this position.
This position should go to an individual in command of a ship, with a proven track record and good character. They should have the minimum rank of Captain, but it would be expected that they were promoted to Commodore not long after taking post.
Squad Executive Officer - offering help and support to the Squad CO and carrying out any duties assigned by the Squad CO. The Squad XO should monitor the progress of new members and ensure they are settling into their new positions.
Again this individual should be in command of a ship and have a proven record. The minimum rank for this position will Captain.
CSS have agreed to these positions and the associated roles and responsibility and have appointed the following individuals to the posts:
Fleet Commander: Vice Admiral Mc7_of_9
Fleet Executive Officer: Rear Admiral Steven Smith
Alpha Squadron Commander: Commodore Savot
Alpha Squadron Executive Officer: Commodore Carl Torek
Admiral Mc7_of_9 will be assigned to Starbase 47, Admiral Smith and Commodores Savot and Torek will remain in command of their associated ships. The USS ElβSalvador will continue to act as Squadron Flagship, with the USS Olympia acting as the Flagship for Admiral Smith.
We have also taken the decision to move Starbase Bellicose and Starbase Conqueror to the Reserve Fleet along with the USS Majesty, USS Jefferson, USS Victory and USS Vesuvius. Any crew assigned to those Starbases will be offered posts on Starbase 47 and Starbase Assailant. SB47 will now act as the welcoming point for new members.
On the subject of the Reserve Fleet, I am sure you will have all noticed that we have created a special board that will keep the records of all ships that have been transferred out of the Active Fleet. This will be used to keep the mission records safe and in prosperity for future members.
If anyone has any questions about these changes, then please contact myself.
