Into the Darkness

While the Nevada waited, dead still in space on the fringes of the expanse, Seth found himself doing just the same. He looked to the back of the bridge at the Bajoran woman whom'd just arrived on board. He'd met her before, briefly, during the Nevada's joint mission with the Vesuvius.
"Welcome to the ship," he said, suddenly behind her and making her turn fast to see whom it was that'd snuck up on her. Seth grimaced a little, he hadn't meant to startle her. "Lieutenant Seth Helacaan," he offered a handshake in reconciliation, "We've met before, once."

Jon got up and headed to the bridge. "Full scan." Jon said as he walked out of the Ready Room. He took his seat and looked at the Veiwscreen.
Seth layed his hands over the controls, his fingers poised over the appropriate buttons, and then he started working. This was the difficulty, he thought, the Expanse wasn't any ordinary area of space of course, it was an area of the galaxy not well known, with numerous phenomena and great gaps than normal between stars. Hence they were pushing new ground sensorially, and it wasn't helped any by the fact Federation ships hadn't been allowed here for a long time; all information was out of date.
He ran into issues all the time, having to configure and recalibrate the sensors as necessary for a slew of consecutive phenomena and regions. But, detected a fair way into the Expanse, was their objective.
"I'm reading the ship, sir. It's 2.1 parsecs into the Expanse, almost directly ahead of us." He decided not to comment on how unlikely that was. Officers were busying themselves around the bridge as Seth gave his report. They were gearing up to move in.

"Tetryon particle levels are off the chart," he commented. His neutral tone belied completely the possible ramifications of a high Tetryon count.
"What?" Dunowin asked from the XO's chair, "There aren't any subspace phenomena in this region that we know of."
"No sir," Seth agreed. "The area may have changed, but that can't account for levels as high as these. I think more likely it comes from the ship before us. Which means it's come to us from subspace..." He looked back to the screen, thinking in wonder. This ship was becoming even more miraculous, and he felt his curiosity lifted to new levels as they drew closer.
