**Backpost**
Aaron’s finished his little rant, Stacey should have been angry but the way the child tried to stand up for himself was almost cute in an annoying kind of way.
“Should have stamped your feet dear boy, would have really sold it!” Stacey declared with a smile.
** Present**
Aarons ran out of the shuttle leaving them without a pilot, and looking to the controls she merely rolled her eyes. Had he waited for a few moments she would have said. “Now we find Cornette.” But now all they could do was wait and hope he didn’t get himself killed.. Starfleet frowned on eulogies using the word idiotic more than a dozen times.
Eventually Aaron’s returned with Kay, she could sense that Aaron’s expected her to be angry. Much to her own surprise she wasn’t anger would have meant it came as a surprise to her that he did away with standard procedure.. stranding a whole away team to rescue one person. No she wasn’t surprised or disappointed in him, merely confirmed in her beliefs about him.
As the shuttle lifted off and broke out of the planets atmosphere the planet itself seemed to become shrouded. “We don’t have the resources to deal with that.. we will contact Starfleet as soon as we get back.” She said as people looked to it.
** USS Rainier **
The shuttle hit the floor of the shuttle bay with a thud and Stacey took a deep breath as she said. “Holsen get Hope to sickbay.. if she wants to leave before your say so.. sedate her.”
<Tag Holsen>
Cramped in the turbolift Stacey stayed silent, she was now tired and suffering from a headache that made her head feel like it was full of tiny miners digging through her brain with explosives.
Stepping onto the bridge she took a deep breath. “Report!”
“Radiation readings from the planet are off the charts Ma’am we have began backing off.. Wait.. We have a ship!.. it’s on the move.”
Stacey sat down and rubbed her forehead as she said. “Pursuit course.” Rainier was far enough from the planet to jump to warp so catching the slow ship was rather easy.
The screen filled with the surprising image of Bagratashen Deb-Lambalu sporting an appropriately dissatisified look upon his face. The captain demanded an explanation.
"Alright, I admit it. We annihilated the people here and copied their identities to try capture the 'others'." Stacey questioned their desire. "Why indeed?" he asked.
Stacey took a deep breath as she stood. “I know who and what you are.. by order of Starfleet Command and for the safety of Federation citizens I am destroying your vessel.. I know you can go back to your own sub space reality.. I suggest you do so Rainier out.”
Several bright lights sped out off the ship and vanished with a blink into nothingness except one that seemed to just fly off. Stacey turned to Chan and said. “Qauntum torpedoes full spread.. Fire!”
<Tag Chan>
With that over Stacey turned to Cornette. “Captain.. get yourself down to Sickbay and get checked out.”
<Tag Kay>
Now with a smile she turned to Chan again and said. “Commander take Mister Aaron’s to the brig, he is to be watched every minute and to have no luxuries.”
Turning now to TEG she took a deep breath and said. “TEG have an engineering team take apart Aaron’s shuttle piece by piece I want it restored to official Starfleet specifications.”
<Tag TEG>
Turning to Aaron’s she said. “You ever endanger the lives of anyone on my crew again. I will have you removed from my ship.. You take a tool to any of the equipment on this ship without asking permission first I will have you removed from my ship!.. This is your last warning Commander one more infraction and your gone.” Looking to Chan she said. “Take him.”
<Tag Chan, Aarons>
“Pia.. take as much sensor readings of the planet as you can, forward the results to my ready room.. and somebody get me Starfleet Command.”
<Tag Pai>
OOC: Last Tags now nearly end of the mission ;D I will lock down the thread in about nine days.

“Captain Cornette.. get yourself down to Sickbay and get checked out.”Kay nodded once at Jackson and turned, heading for the lift. She paused upon hearing Jackson order Aarons to the brig. Quickly, she tried to think up something that might sway Jackson and save Michael, but she couldn’t find a logical, reasonable argument. Kay tucked her chin to her chest and darted for the lift, running from the drama playing out behind her. The solace offered by the lift gave Kay time to breathe deeply and gather her thoughts. Her mind and body seemed out of sync somehow, most likely due to lack of sleep. Maybe the Doc would have a magic cure. In Sickbay, Holsen looked as tired as Kay felt. The dirt and debris from her rescue work had left smudges on her face and small twigs clinging to her hair. Kay sat in a chair as Holsen tended to Commander Hope, the Doctor’s first priority. Kay, usually impatient when waiting, didn’t mind sitting there quietly and observing. “I’ll get to you when I can,” Holsen said to her. “No rush, Doc. I know I’m not an emergency. Only here because I was ordered.” Kay leaned back in her chair slightly and closed her eyes. ~~~ Kay’s eyes snapped open as she startled. A cleaner, less tired looking doctor was hovering over her, scanning her. “I didn’t have the heart to wake you.” Holsen closed her medical scanner with finality and smiled. “You’re fine, Kay. I would advise some more rest… even though that was quite a nap you took.” “How long?” “Oh, about 3 hours.” “Really? How embarrassing.” “You didn’t snore… much.” Lorna chuckled. “I don’t snore,” Kay playfully snapped. She rose slowly from the chair and stretched. Her mind seemed clearer now. She surmised that her earlier symptoms must have been the result of a lack of sleep, just as she had guessed. She decided not to say anything to Holsen, lest she find a reason to keep her there. “Thanks, Doc.” Kay left Sickbay’s friendly confines and strolled toward her quarters. Surprisingly, she found herself on the wrong deck. Sheepishly, she used the corridor’s computer panel to find where she was and where she needed to go. “I must be more tired than I thought,” she reasoned with herself as she corrected course. “It’s still a new ship to me… I’ve been gone a while…” she continued rationalizing. ~~~ The pod was tiny and cramped. Furthermore, it smelled like wet, rotting leaves. She strained to turn her body and look out the peephole that was masquerading as the main viewport. She twisted herself, trying to look out and simultaneously operate the alien thruster controls. Firing short bursts, the pod slowly turned. Kay’s heart rate quickened. The Rainer was still there! Frantically, she haphazardly pressed controls hoping one of them would open up a comm. link. She had to get their attention before the ship left orbit around Ghelzak. The events leading to her escape were fresh in her memory. Lambalu had made good on his promise to duplicate her. The process was horrifically disturbing and yet undeniably fascinating. Even more surprising was how quickly it was finished. The doppelganger was exact in every way, Lambalu had boasted, including her thought patterns, brain waves, memories and whatever else it was that made Kay think she was unique. In fact, the copy would believe she was the original. The only difference was a miniscule bio-implant set to activate on his command. The implant would cause duplicate-Kay to willingly gather intel and transmit it back. The perfect stealth of it was she would have no understanding or remembrance of doing it. And no one would question whether it was the real Kay. As the details of Lambalu’s plan were revealed, Kay understood her usefulness had come to an end. But, when it came time to destroy her, he hesitated. It was then he was interrupted by Aarons’ impetuous bravery. Lambalu let her watch as he staged clone Kay’s dramatic escape with Aarons and as the Away Team departed with the wrong Kay. Seeing the senseless death of Ambassador Oxill at Lambalu’s hands and watching her comrades leave without her had filled her with an overwhelming hopelessness. As the planet grew unstable and he planned his escape, Lambalu decided to take her along – most likely to be a test subject; an oddity in his world to be studied further. Or perhaps he fancied her. A revolting thought, if correct. The alien ship was unlike anything Kay had ever seen before. Had the circumstances been different, she would have thrilled to explore it and learn about Lambalu’s mysterious species. However, her dealings with Lambalu had left her with nothing but bitterness. Whether he was a fluke representation or the norm for his race, Kay’s curiosity had been annulled by his senseless cruelty. As it turned out, Kay’s visit to the ship was extremely short-lived. The pinpoint accuracy of the Rainier’s pummeling and subsequent threat of destruction by Jackson put the alien ship’s crew into chaos. In the confusion, Kay was left unguarded and unnoticed. She managed to make it to an escape pod and guess well enough to launch it. Her thumb tapped the thruster control once as she realigned the pod, keeping the Rainier within view. She searched the unintelligible symbols surrounding her, trying again to find something that looked like communications. Finding nothing, she tried to stay calm by telling herself her double would never fool them all. ~~~ On the Rainier, Pai was busily scanning the planet as it became more and more shrouded in a subspace cocoon. He paid no attention to the small pod drifting away. Even if he had, the pod’s scattering emitters would have made it impossible to read the lone human life sign.

While there was nothing more calming that sensor sweeps aboard a powerful Sovereign class ship, Paikea Apirana felt uneasy and it was a feeling that he did not appreciate. While the senior staff was now safely aboard, Pai felt like they were missing crucial information and it was up to him to figure it out.
"Computer initiate sensor package Pai Delta," Paikea said as he inputed a few commands into his science console. He realized long ago that having a set of sensor test ready to go at a moments notice helped a lot. Unfortunately for Paikea he was unable to find any relative information that they did not know yet, but then again he hadn't studied the readings in much detail. It was also that time that Pai realized that no one had yet contacted Starfleet Command.
"Computer priority message to Starfleet Command on behalf of Captain Jackson of the USS Rainier, prompt Captain Jackson when she is ready to speak with Command," Paikea said as he continued with his scans.
"Commander what are our orders?" the Lieutenant that had been left in command asked.
"Don't worry about it Lieutenant you are in charge until Captain Jackson says differently, I'm just doing what I've ordered to do," Paikea said hopefully making the young Lieutenant feel better and less uncomfortable.
"Thank you sir" the Lieutenant replied already relaxing a bit.

“You made the right choice Captain, these sub space aliens or whatever we are calling them now are a severe danger and if the readings you have sent are correct they are worse than we first thought.”
Stacey nodded, and let out a deep breath. “The radiation signals are the same, why they changed their methods since their encounter with the Enterprise I don’t know.. I don’t think we want to know.” She shrugged slightly. “They seemed to be able to produce almost perfect clones.. Though under their control it seemed partial or full I don’t know… but taking them into custody would have only invited them to try and replace my crew and myself.”
“Then with a fresh Sovereign class ship they could travel Federation space at will.”
The Admiral nodded but seemed deep in thought, “Well, we will send a small task force of science vessels to scour the area.. we will see if we can repair the damage to the planet and colony.. or at least close the rift in sub-space.” He paused and took a deep breath. “Launch a quarantine buoy… then make your way to Starbase two seven four.. Admiral Cain has requested your ship for something personally… Starfleet Out.”
Jackson leaned back and rubbed her forehead. “Of course she has.” She mumbled to herself, resisting the urge to close her eyes and sleep she knocked on her desk twice and stood up.
Walking out onto the bridge she plastered on her best attempt to look pleasant and awake, walking up behind Apriana she patted his shoulder and said. “Good work, this will help the clean up teams determine if there has been any change from now until they arrive.. launch a quarantine buoy.. range half a light year quarantine zone.”
She turned to face the rest of the bridge and took a deep breath, “Our ship isn’t equipped to handle whatever these aliens did to that planet.. Starfleet is sending out a specialised team of science ships.”
“In the mean time.. we have been ordered to Starbase two seven four.. helm set a course.”
Before she could continue the ensign at helm said. “Sorry Ma’am we can’t move for at least an hour.. that subspace thing surrounding the planet has grown slightly we are now in it’s influence we can only manage impulse.. at full impulse we can make it out in an hour”
“Half impulse then until we can manage warp.. That way Science can get a greater deal of readings... I'll be in sickbay."
** Deck Seven **
As Jackson walked down the hall, deciding to first make a quick stop off at a small mess hall not many people ever used she noticed Cornette looking up and down the corridor as if lost.
"Are you okay Captain?" Stacey asked as she walked up closer.
Tag Kay
"Well get some rest.. you earned it, I will make sure your not disturbed." Stacey replied with a smile before walking off.

Deciding the coffee and silence could wait made her way back to her original course and to sickbay.
** Sickbay **
"Doctor Holsen, how is Commander Hope?" Jackson asked as she entered.
Tag Holsen and Hope (if awake)will edit or backpost reply
"How was Captain Cornette? I just passed her in the hall.. if I didn't know better I would say she was lost or confused."

OOC: I'll be helping everyone by putting Kay's double's words in a lighter color."Are you okay Captain?" Stacey asked as she walked up closer.There was no way Kay was going to admit to Jackson that she couldn’t find her quarters. “I just came from Sickbay. The Doc says I’m fine.” Hoping Jackson hadn’t seen the interior schematic she was studying, she quickly tapped in the commands to change the screen’s view. Ghelzak IV appeared surrounded by undulating waves of subspace disturbances. “That looks foreboding. If you want my advice, and I’m sure you don’t, I think we need to get out of here quickly.” Kay felt an unexplainable urgency to leave this planet behind her. “Best possible speed happens to be half-impulse.” Jackson pointed at the screen. “Those disturbances are keeping us out of warp.” She paused as they both stared blankly at the screen. Both women contemplated opening up the conversation they both knew they needed. Stubbornness won out and neither took it upon themselves to clear the air. Jackson finally spoke. "Well get some rest… you’ve earned it. I will make sure you’re not disturbed." Stacey replied with a smile before walking off.“Thank you, Captain,” Kay replied, the weight of what hadn’t been said bearing down on her. Finally in her quarters, sleep came quickly. At three bells, Kay’s eyes opened wide and she got up. Methodically, she dressed. She walked out of her room and down the vacant corridor. Ship’s clock registered 1:30 in the morning and most of the crew was off duty. She took the lift to her destination; stellar cartography lab. A lone crewman greeted her entrance with a nod and a smile. She nodded robotically in return. He had never seen her before but didn’t question her presence there. Kay moved to a station and typed in her clearance codes. Information on all Federation colonies, outposts, stations and starbases was instantly displayed. Placing her index finger on the auxiliary output, she stood unusually and un-humanly still while the transfer of information took place. The crewman thought the whole thing was most curious. He contemplated asking her what she was doing but by the time he had almost mustered enough courage to question her, the visitor blinked, pulled her hand away from the console and walked out. **** Kay bolted up from her bed. She checked the time. “Good grief! I’ve overslept!” she said aloud. Even though the Captain hadn’t specified a time, Kay wanted to prepare a debrief of all that transpired during her ‘visit’ with Lambalu and she wanted to have it to her by the time Jackson reported in on the bridge. She recorded her debriefing, pausing several times to yawn, go for coffee and do a few jumping jacks. Nothing seemed to be working to shake the sleep from her brain. She could barely keep her eyes open. The hours and hours of undisturbed sleep she had had didn’t seem to have alleviated her exhaustion. Finishing her report, Kay sent it on. It was going to get to Jackson later than she had aimed for, but nonetheless, it was done. Yawning wide for the umpteenth time, Kay decided to venture outside of her room and get some breakfast, hoping the bustle of people in the mess would stimulate her senses to stay awake.

TEG felt that it was important for him to take apart the shuttle, but first he wanted to inspect it. As he went around the shuttle, he noticed some missing panels. One of the missing panels looked familiar to him. He rushed back to Engineering, where he found his 'probe' casing. He inspected it a little closer, and found that while it was in a probe casing, the device was actually an emergency shuttle thruster. The exact one that was missing from the shuttle.
"Well, that's odd."
TEG scanned the shuttle piece and found a minor quantum fluctuation. Just to be safe, he ran a scan of the ship and the expanding subspace field. There wasn't much to find, however he did find a signal in orbit and another onboard the ship.
Just to be on the safe side, TEG called for security to meet him in the Mess Hall, and forwarded his findings to Commander Apirana.

The journey back to the Rainier barely registered to S'reena's mind; she wasn't even really sure how she got back but when some of her senses returned to her, she found hersef lying on a bed in sickbay, safely swaddled in several blankets. People she didn't recognise at first fussed about her, taking scans, bloodsamples and just the general medical poking and prodding she had always disliked so much.
Much to any medic's surprise, this time she made no fuss. As Michael approached she managed to sit up and accept his hug in as dignified a fasion as was possible with all the blankets wrapped around her. She was still very tired and extremely sluggish in response, but at least she was aware again.
"Doctor Holsen, how is Commander Hope?"
The Romulan's head snapped up at the sound of the captain's voice, but she made no move to sit up further than she was already and made no move to get up. "I'm fine captain," she replied, even before the dear doctor could supply her answer. "That is...I feel better, whether I'm actually fine is of course to be determined by Doctor Holsen."
S'reena smiled encouragingly, if not almost in a pleading fashion to please be found fit to leave. Nerves were already starting to creep up to her, and she didn't know for how long she'd be able to remain here, before she could leave without it having repercussions. "I don't feel like an ice cube anymore," she added, sounding almost cheerful, "in fact I feel like I'm about to get roasted. Doctor can we please get these blankets off before I'll melt?"

At first Paikea believed he had found the answers that they had been looking for, but in the end it turned out to be nothing. Even though he had been unable to find anything in the scans, Pai sent all available data to the Captain. Hopefully a fresh set of eyes would be able to find anything he might have missed. While it wasn't in his nature, Paikea decided that he would let things stand. If there had been anything out there and they had been able to mislead their scans they would hear from them soon enough.
"Computer dim lights to minimum and begin audio track 2," Pai said as he entered his quarters and quickly took off his uniform. He hadn't realized it, but he had been in them for far to long and it was time to just relax. It took him a few minutes to find something that was clean and comfortable. Once Pai had done this he sat down on the couch and tried forget the last couple of days. It wasn't long until he was fast asleep.
Eight Years Ago
"If you go, you will not only turn your back on your people, but on ours," Posoraganu said with an eerie calm. Paikea's father was the leader of the Whangara and he was ready to give his seat of power to his only son, Paikea.
"Father, I love you, but I want a future away from the tribe and our superstitions," Paikea replied angrily," I have done everything that comes with being your son, but I want to explore the galaxy All I want is your support."
"You will never have my support to join Starfleet, that cursed place is will lead you and our tribe to its death," Posoraganu replied.
"Mother, please reason with my father," Paikea said knowing full well that his mother agreed with his father.
"No, my son. You were named after our most sacred ancestor. I understand your urgings to explore, but you have responsibility to your people," Rehutas said as she stood shoulder to shoulder with her husband," we love you and you will never stop being my son, but if you leave you will regarded as an outsider by your people."
His mother's words stung him like a swarm of bees and for the first time in years Paikea shed tears.
"You believe you are ready for Starfleet, but you cannot handle your mother's rebuke!" Posoraganu said angrily," you truly bring your name shame."
"I'm sorry to hear that father, but I have made my decision," Paikea said as he wiped his face and left his parent's home for the last time.
Present
Paikea woke with a start. it had been years since he thought about that fateful day. His mother had come around, but his father had yet to speak to him. His father was now grooming Paikea's youngest cousin, Koro, named after the only other Whangara tribe member to ever join Starfleet.
"Computer please send prerecorded message to my father," Paikea said trying to get the better experience from his mind. He never regretted joining Starfleet, but he had to admit that he missed his family and his tribe.
"Message sent."
Paikea knew that his message would go ignore, but he would never stop trying to repair his relationship with his father. He was just as stubborn as the old man was.

Xin-Ling's hand raced over her console, and within seconds there was a silent, blinding light where the other vessel had been only a second before.
"I believe torpedoes have been effective, Captain," she quipped.
At the Captain's insistence, the petite Asian stepped toward him and stopped nearly a meter short of his position. If one did not truly know the skills of the Asian Warrior, he would almost laugh at the sight of the four-foot-eleven frame of the soft-skinned girl issuing what might have been construed as a challenge to one who was relatively gargantuan when compared to her, but it was, in reality, an attempt to limit any physical resistance to her orders as much as possible for his benefit.
"This can be done easily or with difficulty, Mr. Aarons," she said. "I do hope you decide that you cooperate and come peaceably. What your choice?"
She waited in ready position for his response, watching his eyes and hands closely.

TEG entered the mess hall with two security officers. His Tricorder indicated the quantum fluctuation was coming from an area near the windows. He saw Captain Cornette sitting by the windows eating plomeak soup. <i>That's odd, Kay doesn't like plomeak soup.</i> Thought TEG. As he got closer, his tricorder, in silent mode, began indicating wildly, until he was just centimeters from Kay's head, at which case the tricorder indicated that she was the source of the quantum fluctuation. He indicated for the security officers to back off, while he closed his tricorder. He put his hand on Kay's shoulder.
<tag Kay>
"I wanted to see how my former Captain was doing."
<tag Kay>
"Since when did you start eating plomeak soup?"
<tag Kay>
"If you don't mind, there was some sort of minor quantum flux coming from you location, and I'd like you to get checked out."
<Tag Kay>
"I insist Captain." To wit TEG escorted Captain Cornette to sickbay for a full quantum scan.

Kay’s hypnagogic state made her respond slowly to his touch. She put down her spoon and looked up lazily into his face. “Number One, what brings you here?” She smiled lethargically.
She stifled a yawn. “How nice of you… but unnecessary. Nothing wrong with me that a good night’s sleep wouldn’t fix.” She rolled her neck slowly trying to undo the kinks. “Why not join me?” Kay nodded to the empty seat beside her.
“I’ve always liked…“ Kay paused and stared at her bowl with a frown. Her gaze then searched TEG’s face. “I thought I liked it. Now, I’m not so sure.” She tried another bite, grimaced and shoved it away. “I think I’ve lost my appetite.”
The concern read easily across his expression.
“Any change in a field of energy can cause quantum fluctuations, you know that,” she scoffed, trying to lessen his seriousness. “And just because I suddenly lost my appetite it doesn’t mean I need a check-up.” She quaffed the last of her drink with defiance. “Besides, I just came from sickbay last night and Holsen gave me the A-OK.”
TEG gave the two security officers a look and they now moved closer to where Kay could see them.

Having made the convincing argument he hadn't been solely disregarding of safety and regulations, and having proved that there were far too many important people interested in the Vachir, Captain Jackson couldn't wait to get him out the door. Cmdr. Chan hadn't made for much conversation either. "So what did you think of winter wear?" Michael asked eagerly. "It made me look like a penguin." "How?" <tag Chan> ***Elsewhere***Michael gathered up a respectable supply to make the 2 week trip to the Engineering Corps. and back. He sifted through his things being particular about what he needed and what he'd want. He was rather concerned though about making the trip. On the one hand he'd be getting a much needed vacation of sorts. But on the other hand, he didn't really want to leave his stuff unattended. "Hmm. I really don't like just leaving all this on its lonesome." ***Later***TEG was nowhere to be found, which was a good thing. Avoiding any posturing and, rather than bring the captain into explaining the decision to shovel him out the door or even have to think about Aarons for the next two weeks. He loaded his stuff into the Vachir and then set off for one final task he had to perform. ***Even Elsewhereier***Michael knocked on Kaylana's door for some reason. After a tick he rang the chime upon which she almost immediately answered. "You know, it's a small place. I could actually here you knocking," she said. "Yes, well, umm... I... wanted to tell you... I wanted to say goodbye." The expression on her face turned to puzzlement. "I'm going to be gone for the next two weeks while I take the shuttle to the Engineering Corps. Personally I would have loved to take you with me," he said with a boyish grin, "but the captain was most unwilling; wouldn't even agree to fly us there. 'That thing's so fast, you shouldn't have any problems,'" he said mocking her. "I guess she's still mad about the whole mission and you?" "Well that, and apparantly Starfleet doesn't really like it when you accuse them of being run by a bunch of squabbling children." "They found out about that?" she asked. "It's like they know." Changing the subject only slightly, Kay put another thought forward. "You should really apologize to the captain." "Me!? What'd I do?" He didn't like the look that formed on her face. "Just everything you used to do with me." Well that made a lot of sense. Too bad it was him and he was never one to submit to other's logic. ***Ready Room***Captain Jackson entered her ready room. With the ship taking an hour to make her destination, she was poised to sit and wait. However, she found herself drawn to a strange letter addressed to her. It was an apology from Aarons. One written at the expense of a very sore arm thanks to Kay. Dear Captain, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize about a few certain things. In the past amount of time that we've known each other, I've made no attempt to ease or refrain from troubling your attempts to command effect- ively this ship.
In the greater sense I've ignored your will, flagrantly, disregarded your discretion, and generally scoffed at your command abilities. However as it was so pointed out to me, I have a responsibility to follow the chain of command as much as you have to the safe- ty of ALL the crew aboard.
It is with that (and Kay wouldn't stop punch- ing me) I seek to make penance for my actions. That said I might recommend that you skip the next few meals; replicators are acting up. And that you watch your back (dander). Also I cut off your prize horse's head and placed it in your bed so watch your feet.
Signed, Mr. Aarons.Stacey lowered the PADD. "I don't own any... Computer is there any dead animal parts in my quarters!?" >"Negative."< ***Shuttlebay, again***Michael climbed into the Vachir. The bay doors were opened as he prepped the little firebird for take off. It was going to be a lengthy trip but also, with this thing's speed, there were a number of places he could go while he was out. ;D The shuttle swung out of the shuttlebay and rounded the ship's hull. Michael set a course for the Starfleet Engineering Corps. rendezvous location. At the same time, he considered where he might take in a few sights along the way. As he passed by, he couldn't help but admire the ship. "My God she sure is beautiful. Still rather have the Majesty thougth." ***Back on Board***Stacey left her Ready Room as the ship was near the threshold of the subspace disruptions. Before she could reissue her orders to Starbase 274, the ship was shaken by the unmistakeable feeling of an impact. "What now?" Paikea leaned over his console. "Something seems to have bounced off of the ship. Based upon it's movements it should be coming into view now." The viewscreen lit up with the unaccounted pod from earlier. Based on its size, and erratic movement, the pod would be brought aboard the ship's cargo bay. The Security Force would meet Captain Jackson in the cargo bay. The whole operation would be carried out by energizing all matter in the space around the pod. The shimmering lights revealed the pod where once there was nothing. Before they could make any attempt to open her, the pod began to open revealing Kaylana Cornette. "You have to believe me, I'm Kaylana, the person you have on board is a fake." She stood there looking at the expression on the faces surrounding her and felt alien. "That's an extraordinary claim for someone who could very well be the imposter. Do you have any proof?" Kay was unable to offer anything in the way of proving herself above the person already aboard. Nevertheless, Captain Jackson ordered a manhunt for the other Kaylana as the one who just arrived accompanied her and a security detail to Sickbay. OFF: See you all real soon!

Lorna boarded the shuttle. She was busy keeping a close eye on her patients. In the warm air she had let Auric escape her jacket although the firelizard stayed close as she tended S'reena. Lorna had appropriated a medical tricorder from the shuttle's medical kit and checked S'reena over fully. She was still hypothermic and was utterly exhausted and bruised but for once S'reena had gotten away without serious injury. Still Lorna wanted her to avoid doing anything energetic until she was completely recovered. Then again, she also wanted people to stop shooting at other people. Neither was going to happen. She sighed silently to herself and settled for making sure that the Commander's temperature was steadily heading for normal.
With S'reena settled Lorna ran the tricorder over her own wrist. As she had suspected it was sprained. Nothing broken, torn or permanently damaged. Her reaction to the meal had mostly passed but there were still a few chemicals that influenced Betazoid neurology floating round in her system. She rigged a hypospray with a pain killer, an anti inflammatory and something to counteract the lingering dizziness; she pressed the hypo to her arm.
As soon as that was done she gave her report to Captain Jackson. She kept it short and to the point noting that her actions had triggered the incident in the dinning room and that Captain Cornette had become a hostage to allow the rest of the away team to leave.
When the shuttle touched down Lorna glanced out of the window and was surprised to see that they were still planet side. Then Aarons bolted from the cockpit and she figured out what was going on. Not that she would have left Kay behind but she hadn't thought they were on a rescue mission now. To her immense relief both the Captain and Commander returned at a dead run.
The rest of the trip back to the Rainer was relatively quiet, the landing was a little heavy but it did not make Lorna's top ten of bad landings. She took S'reena off to sickbay with the Captain's words “Holsen get Hope to sickbay.. if she wants to leave before your say so.. sedate her.” Echoing in her ears. She had given a nodded response and a 'yes captain' but her mind had been elsewhere.
On the trip Lorna looked at S'reena who was still only semi-concious. "Don't worry. I won't keep you any longer than I have to. I know how much you enjoy being in sick bay." She sighed quietly. "I just wish you didn't end up there so often."
As the sickbay doors whooshed open Lorna caught a concerned glance that Cris threw her way. Obviously news of the away team's exploits had gotten this far. She gave her wife a wry smile in response and set to work tending her patient as Cris carried on with hers who seemed be bleeding copiously. Lorna caught a glimpse of her own reflection in the biobed's read out panel. She looked more than a little worn but that was hardly a surprise
She got S'reena and Auric settled and then looked up see Captain Cornette entering. She looked drained but was carrying no obvious injuries. She settled in a chair and Lorna looked at her quirking an eyebrow, Kay was not know for her patience. "I'll get to you when I can" She was layering blankets over S'reena and Auric although the firelizard seemed determined to make a nest out of them. As long as they both got warm Lorna didn't really mind how the blankets were arranged.
“No rush, Doc. I know I’m not an emergency. Only here because I was ordered.” Kay leaned back in her chair slightly and closed her eyes. That was a slight surprise. Most people protested even when ordered to sickbay. Then again Lorna had noticed that Kay's words were slurring slightly doubted her resistance to orders was particularly high at the moment. She wasn't at all surprised when the other woman's head tipped back, her eyes closed and her breathing deepened. As soon as S'reena was stable Lorna carried out a discrete scan of Kay. She had a few minor injuries but she was completely exhausted.
About an hour later with all three of her patients unconscious and stable Lorna found a moment to catch her breath. She found a cup of coffee pushed into her hands. "Drink it, go back to your quarters get a shower and a clean uniform. We can manage here until you get back." Lorna gave a slight smile at K'Lana as she took the coffee. Her staff knew her very well. "I guess you lost the straw drawing this time and get to deal with cranky Doctor Holsen". If Cris was on duty it had usually been her that got to deal with 'their' CMO but then the rest of the staff decided that it was only fair that they did their part. There were times when Lorna fell rather ganged up on. Still she knew better than to argue. It wasn't that she didn't think they could look after her patients in her absence it was more that if they were here working she felt she couldn't leave. Lorna went to her quarters gulping the coffee on the way. She returned a relatively short time later feeling an awful lot better.
She was taking another reading from Kay. when she saw her eyelids flicker. “I didn’t have the heart to wake you.” Lorna closed her medical scanner with finality and smiled. “You’re fine, Kay. I would advise some more rest… even though that was quite a nap you took.” “How long?” “Oh, about 3 hours.” Lorna was rounding up a little but not much. Kay could certainly do with another twelve hours of uninterrupted sleep “Really? How embarrassing.” “You didn’t snore… much.” Lorna chuckled. “I don’t snore,” Kay playfully snapped. Lorna did not take any offence at her words. She could have explained that in the position she had been sleeping it it was physiological improbably for a human not to snore but she was fairly sure that Kay knew that all ready “Thanks, Doc.” Lorna gave a smile as Kay left. She still did not look well but it was nothing sleep would not put right.
"Doctor Holsen, how is Commander Hope?" Jackson asked as she entered. Lorna looked up to see tha Captain had arrived. To her surprised Commander Hope beat her to the reply
"I'm fine captain," she replied, even before the dear doctor could supply her answer. "That is...I feel better, whether I'm actually fine is of course to be determined by Doctor Holsen." Lorna moved over to her patient and examined the read outs
Doctor can we please get these blankets off before I'll melt?" Lorna gave a reassuring smile and started peeling a few layers off S'reena. "It's good to have you back." It seemed that S'reena was back to normal now. Lorna would do a couple more tests just to be sure and if she needed S'reena to stay a little longer she would point out that Auric had also gotten sick. It was a mean thing to do but S'reena was more concerned about the firelizard's health than her own and it wasn't something Lorna would do lightly.
"How was Captain Cornette? I just passed her in the hall.. if I didn't know better I would say she was lost or confused."
"She's completely exhausted. I'm not entirely sure what got to her so badly but she should be fine after 12 or better yet 15 hours of sleep. She may also be experiencing a side effect of some of the food we ate planet side. There were a couple of unusual proteins in her system but the weren't active so I've put investigating them on the back burner for the moment."

Later.
S'reena and Auric had both been pronounced fit and healthy and been allowed to leave much the former's obvious relief. Lorna was also relieved she hadn't had to use her threat.
Lorna was a little surprised when TEG walked in to sickbay accompanied by Captain Cornette. Kay should still be asleep. Lorna swallowed a sighed and turned to greet the new arrivals. She was puzzled when TEG demanded a fully quantum scan. The Captain seemed willing to go along with it.
"Kay," Lorna said with gentle admonishment in her tone. "I only let you out of sickbay so you could go to your quarters and sleep. What happened?"

They got her settled on to a vacant biobed. Lorna and K'Lana started setting up for the scan, but before they could start the scan. There was a lot of distruption caused by the arrival of Captains Jackson and Cornette and a full security team. Lorna's gaze flicked from the biobed at her side to the person who had just walked in. Her day had just got more complicated. She didn't bat an eyelid at the idea that Kay had been duplicated but it was going to be a issue to work out what had happened. Knowing that K'Lana, one of her favourite sparring partners after a bad day and half-Klingon, was more than capable of stopping anyone leaving Lorna walked over to the new arrivals. She gestured to abiobed of the opposite side of sickbay to the one TEG was standing next to.
"Let's get this sorted out shall we?" She spoke with the air of one who has seen everything before. "What happened, Kay and how did you get back here?" She had no idea if this was Kay but it was simpler to call them most that for the moment and see where things led.

“You do realize that you can be quite annoying to the tightly-wrapped brass, don’t you?”
“Some of them need to loosen up. Would do them a world of good.” He gave her a soft kiss, which she accepted and returned. “Hasn’t hurt you any to climb down from your high horse,” he said, eyes twinkling with mirth. He kissed her again and noticed something different; it was pleasant but new and he wondered why he hadn’t noticed it before.
Kay shook her head at him. She guessed he would never grow up entirely. Annoyingly, that’s exactly what she liked most. She decided, if he were going to continue acting as a child, she would treat him as such.
Kay pulled out the chair at her desk. “Sit down, Mr. Aarons.”
Michael smirked and sat obediently. “Yes sir!” He cocked his head slightly. “Why is it that you always liked being called sir and Captain Jackson prefers ma’am?” "Quit changing the subject. You really need to give her an apology," she said.
"I don't see why... OW!!!" Kay really knew how to make a point.
“What was that all about?” he protested, rubbing his arm.
Another fist met its targeted arm.
“Ow! Alright, alright!”
On the walk to sickbay with Jackson, Kay prepared herself for meeting her double. The shock of seeing her duplicate self, however, was intense. No one should face themselves outside of a transient reflection. The most overwhelming part was that she didn’t think her double looked anything like her.
“The only symptom I’m having is exasperation,” Kay rasped. “Surely you aren’t fooled by that imitation.” She gestured wildly at the other Kay.
“What do you mean imitation!? Doctor, you can tell that I’m the real Kay. What is going on here?” she asked having no doubt she was authentic.
“Lambalu said the doppelganger would be exact – except for a bio-implant,” Kay explained. She now looked to TEG. “I bet you’ll find one in her.” Go on!” she urged impatiently. “Scan her!”
Lorna, who was mid-scan anyway, methodically went through the quantum scan in her usual meticulous way while Kay tapped her foot nervously.

“But,” the double protested, “I AM Kaylana Cornette. I know everything – my parents’ names, my childhood… my first assignment on the Argosy… and Commodore Kruse on the Majesty… and you, Captain Jackson,” she said in a plea that was difficult to ignore. “I AM Kay! What do I have to do to prove it?”
Real Kay interjected. “You can’t because up until 72 hours ago, you didn’t exist.” She turned to face Jackson. “Captain, I formally request that this clone be destroyed immediately. Not only to keep confusion at a minimum, but to rid us of the security threat... it poses to the ship and the Federation.” Those who had known Kay for years had rarely seen her so agitated.
The double’s eyes widened. “Doctor… you can remove the implant, right? I have no qualms with losing my ties with Lambalu, but I do take great offense at losing my life!”

When the news of a possible clone aboard reached Pai he couldn't help but get a little nervous. Dealing with clones was always tricky, and if the scientist that created the clone was good, you could not tell the difference between the two. Knowing that his place would be on the bridge, Paikea quickly got dressed and headed to the bridge. When he arrived he could see that the clone issue was the big story and no one was really doing anything else.
"Idle gossip already ladies and gentlemen," Paikea said as he startled the bridge crew," I know we all want to know, but right now we have pressing matters and jobs to do."
"Sir, do they know whose the real one?" Ensign Lal asked. The way her antenna moved almost made Paikea laugh and after stifling his laugh Paikea responded.
"Ensign, I do not know anything more than you, but once the Captain feels it is appropriate to share information she will do so," Pai said as he approached his console," until then lets get back to work."

Jackson walked behind Cornette or at least the woman who claimed to be Cornette, Nothing about her gave any indication she was lying her emotions were erratic but that was to be expected when your told your there another person running around with your identity.
Stacey for her part refrained from saying anything, until she had all the information she had to treat both Cornette’s the same.
**Sickbay**
Stacey stood back, content to let Doctor Holsen do her job, which Stacey internally noted was done with fantastic professionalism, Holsen didn’t show any signs of stress or any emotion at the situation she simply got too work.
Ten minutes that seemed to last an eternity passed as scans were run and both Cornettes wildly proclaimed they were the original person. Yet Stacey remained silent the stillness of her body might have been interpreted as being cold or unconcerned but her mind was hard at work thinking through possibilities.
<Tag Holsen (Tags above)>
Eventaully it came down to the point Stacey always knew it would, the clone was found out but insisted she had no idea she was indeed a clone.. the ‘real’ Kay was livid as would have been expected. She demanded the immediate execution of the clone again as predicted.
Stacey held up her hand. “Don’t say it Doctor.. I am already well aware of your oaths.. like you I taught ethics in the Academy.” She turned to the real Cornette and said. “Will both Cornette’s and Doctor Holsen join me in her office please.”
Stacey took the lead and instinctively sat behind the desk hoping Holsen wouldn’t mind, right now Stacey had to assume every device she could to distance herself form the situation in order to arbitrate it properly.
“This is a difficult situation, one nobody should be put in.” She looked to the real Kay who sat on the left and said. “I understand why you would like to see her dead I truly do… but that is not something anyone on this ship or in the Federation is empowered to do.. and even if I was I wouldn’t.”
“She is you… She had no wish for this situation.. she is as much a victim as you if not more… imagine your roles reversed.. told your life is a lie.. everything you know is false.”
She turned to look at the clone and said. “You will have the surgery to remove whatever device is in your head.. You do not have Command codes for this ship.. your not even fully briefed on its newer technology.. despite being the same class this ship is a good deal more advanced than Majesty due to being several years younger.”
She now looked to real Kay and said. “You don’t pose the security risk you think you do.” She again turned to the clone and said. “Starfleet will not honour any rank Cornette holds for you.. should you wish to join Starfleet on your own merits.”
“Nor can I have you remain on this ship.. your presence will be too disruptive… There are however many options, many number of Federation allies with their own fleet commands are always looking for former Starfleet officers.. the Vulcan’s and Betazoids are always looking for advisors I can offer you help should you decide to take any one of those paths.”
Stacey stood up, “You can’t live the life you thought you had.. I can’t imagine how that must feel, but nothing is stopping you from starting a new life.” She paused and frowned slightly. “Oh and.. if I might suggest using your Mothers maiden name perhaps.. at least until you find a place you wish to lay down roots.”

Each Kay was in her own private hell as Jackson’s speech ended. Neither dared look at the other. Both wanted to deny the other’s existence and validate their individual uniqueness in the universe.
After a while, original Kay spoke first.
“I’m sorry about what I said back there,” she began haltingly. “I don’t want anyone dead…”
“I know,” said the other.
Captain Jackson afforded herself a slight smile at the brief exchange between the two and nodding to the Doctor, they left the two Kays to work it out on their own.
They sat side by side in front of Holsen’s desk. The air was dense with soundless deliberation as both realized whatever one was thinking, the other was too.
“I was sure I was … you… before the Doctor’s findings proved otherwise.” The clone shook her head and scoffed. “I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with myself. I’ve been an officer too long…”
Kay finally looked at her with empathy. “I know what I would do.”
The reflections met eyes; a thin smile poised on their identical lips. Unspoken conversation traversed the small distance between them as they both got up simultaneously. Moving eerily in sync, they crossed to the door.
“You can stay in my quarters if you want.”
“No thanks. I’ll have them assign me temporary quarters.”
“Have you given any thought to what you want to be called?”
“Maybe Lana?” A look of incredulousness crossed her face. “I don’t know if I can get used to it.” She sighed heavily. “I don’t know if I can get used to any of this.”
“May I ask… a favor?”
“What is it? If it’s got something to do with Michael, then I have to tell you that …”
“Oh no, no.” Kay crinkled her face in mock disgust. “I assume we also think the same about all that…” She trailed off purposefully. Talking with the clone was as close to telepathy as Kay had ever experienced. “I was going to ask if you wouldn’t mind keeping a low profile – while you’re on the ship.”
“Right. Sure. Understandable.” Lana then smiled devilishly. “Although we could have a lot of fun with this.”
Kay matched her devious smile perfectly. “I’ve always said I have enough work for two people.”
“That’s not what we meant, and you know it!”
The tables in the Officer’s Lounge were sparsely occupied. Lighting was at half, simulating the evening rotation on the ship and small clear spheres blinked with a candle-like glow on each table. Kay sat tensely across from TEG. He, however, was sprawled languidly in his chair, studying Kay carefully, yet appearing totally unconcerned.
Kay sipped her water and stared into the liquid. As its swirling subsided, her reflection coalesced. “No one should see themselves like I have these past few days. A raw, ...unforgiving, ...precise look at how one acts, behaves and is perceived.” She dipped her finger into the water’s surface disturbing the mirrored image. “And yet, I can’t help but be a little jealous of her.”
“Jealous? Why?” TEG knew how and when to say just enough.
“She’s going to be able to have the life I’ve always wanted.”
TEG snorted a short laugh. “I have always been able to tell when you’re lying.”
Kay resented his light treatment of exposing of her innermost musings. “I’m not lying. There’s a part of me that’s always wanted to have a normal life. A place to live that has grass and trees… real grass and trees… and maybe a garden. A home, Number One, an honest to goodness place to call home.” Kay’s eyes glistened, moist with sincerity.
“I predict she’ll do that for about three months, tops.” TEG leaned forward across the table for emphasis. “She’s you. And I know you. You have got to be where you feel you matter.”
Kay dismissed him with a wave of her hand. “You don’t know me as well as you think you do. I would matter if I was someone’s mother,” she added shyly, “or someone’s wife.”
“You can tell yourself that all day, but I don’t believe it.” He took a drink from his glass. “Like I said, she’ll try the home and family route for about three months and then we’ll hear she’s enlisted.”
The implications of that suddenly hit Kay. She wouldn’t mind if Lana did enlist, but she would hate it if she bested her. Lana had all the advantages. She had already overcome her intense shyness. She had all of her experiences and knowledge. And Lana's best attribute was one Kay could never compete with; her record was untainted by losing a ship and her crew.
Her packing finished, Lana sat on the edge of the bed waiting for permission to disembark. Starbase 274 would be her first stop in her new journey. From there, she planned to visit Earth.
The door chime sounded and she crossed to the door. The doors parted quickly and the sight of Kay standing and staring back at her sent a tiny shudder through her.
“I wanted to at least tell you good luck,” Kay said genuinely.
“Thanks, that means a lot coming from you.”
Kay took a few steps in as Lana invited her. “Still planning on heading to Earth?”
“I think it’s what I want.”
Kay sighed slowly, “I don’t like saying this, but mom and dad will never understand this so…”
“I’ve thought of that. I think it’s best if I stay away.” Saying those words aloud made Lana’s soul ache. All her thoughts and memories told her she was Kay’s parents’ natural daughter and it had been so long since she had seen them.
Awkwardly, Kay continued. “Well… let me know when you’re settled somewhere.” Then, as was her signature trait when in an uncomfortable moment, she joked, “Ya never know when I might need a kidney.”
Lana appreciated Kay's quirky humor more than most.
“Likewise.”
Permission was given to me by Capt. Jackson to wrap up this mission. I have placed us at a Starbase 274 as per a post of the Captain's and my hope is you can either fit in your posts as what happened before we arrived there or after.
