Contested space. The Breen. This was not going to be an easy mission. Tiana had never found the inside of her own head to be a particularly quiet place; mentally talking to herself was her way of getting ideas and solving problems; since the joining things had become even more noisy but she was coping. There were a lot of determined personalities amongst Cet's previous hosts, well all of them in fact. At least they all got along.
Tiana sat in silence not daring to look across at Elliane and looking from the Captain only to check that her notes had been entered accurately on the PADD in front of her. There was something bothering her as the Captain spoke but she couldn't work out what it was.
[color=White"Doctor Saryn, I'd like you to work with Tiana in studying the extent of genetic engineering in this culture. Have you had experience with such things before?"[/color] "No sir I do not have experience with genetic engineering, not in the manner in which you imply. However I have done extensive research on the matter before this meeting and will continue my research."The Vulcan doctor glanced over at Tiana. "I will assist you in any manner I am able ma'am," he added, "in the mean time, may I have a word with you after the briefing? It has no bearing on our current mission, however..." He hesitated, meeting her gaze squarely. "It is of a personal nature ma'am, I would prefer to discuss it under private circumstances. Meet my in my office in an hour." Tiana listened as the Doctor spoke. He had beaten her to answer and it had been a little unclear whether the Captains words had directed at the Doctor or at both of them.
"Of course Doctor, I shall join you in sickbay after the briefing." She agreed to his request and then looked back at the Captain. "I have done quite a bit of reading about various forms of bio enhancement. A couple of Cet's previous hosts were in the Trill Defence Force and have had rather more hands on experience with genetically manipulated opponents. I believe I should be able to sort some things out with Doctor Saryn's help of course."
Ghes stood, indicating the briefing was basically finished, "Finally, before you leave, a word regarding the Trill representative we have on board. For all of you except Tiana, if she asks anything or needs anything, provide for her, but act professional and use discretion." Ghes dismissed the rest of the officers apart from the two Trills. Tiana glance over at Elliane who was looking mildly surprised by this turn of events. As the rest of the crew filed out the Trill representative followed them. Tiana wasn't quite sure was the sort of smile playing of the the
He sat by them and spoke quieter, "Of course, being Trill you two have a different perspective on this. Tiana, how did the meeting with her go? Has she made any conclusions? Of course if you can't or don't want to say..." This time Tiana was the first to speak. "From my perspective the meeting went pretty well, dragged up a lot of things I'd rather not have had to talk about starting with my brothers but ..." She shrugged. "... it wasn't as bad as I expected. I don't know if she'd come to any conclusions yet."
"I have a suggestion," he said, "I'm to meet with Ryat right after this, where she's sure to question me on some things. In the mean while, perhaps you, Vin, can advise Tiana on what Ryat might be asking next, or on how she might act. I'd like you to work together with this if it's allowable. Vin, I also want you to start making tactical plans for security for when we reach the system and for when the team heads planetside. Seeing as any adversaries might be in some way genetically modified, perhaps Tiana can help."
Tiana had all but forgotten that Elliane was due to meet with the Captain next. "I imagine that she'll want to know all about me and whether I've changed and whether you feel I can still do my duty." Tiana knew the answer to that last quest was yes or she wouldn't be here. "She'll probably also want to reminisce a bit. Ryat was a used to command a Starfleet ship." There wasn't much more she could say.

Tiana agreed to help with the plans for security arrangements. She wasn't sure if the Captain was deliberately trying to keep her busy or not but it looked like she wouldn't have any time to worry about the outcome of Elliane's investigation.
Once she was dismissed Tiana made her way down to sickbay to meet up with Doctor Saryn. As she boarded the turbolift she suddenly realised what about the Captain's briefing had been bothering her. It was not something Tiana would ever have picked up on her own but with Cet and close on 400 year worth of security experience, there had been one or two very good interrogators amongst the previous hosts; she could tell that he had been holding something important back. She had no idea what it was and believed that the Captain would tell them if they needed to know.
She reached sickbay and headed towards Saryn's office. She wasn't sure what he wanted to talk to her about but she was about to find out.
"Doctor, You want to speak to to me?"

Elliane had waited politely while Captain Gheskori talked to his Trill senior officers. She was quite sure that he was trying to get information out of them about how this interview would go. She doubted either one of them would be able to tell him much. It wasn't as if these interview / investigations were very common after all.
Tiana and the other Officer, who Elliane had gathered was Vin Wolf, had left the conference room. The Captain had still not emerged. Elliane counted to ten in her head then pressed the door chime and waited.

Rekoa glanced down at the PADD in his hand as he walked through the corridors of the Enzio. His assignments, and his request to show up at the medical bay for a physical examination. Rekoa didn't seem perturbed by the large crew mulling about. While most people would be intimidated, Rekoa just seemed neutral. It was easy enough to mistake him for a Vulcan for that reason.
The navigator replaced the PADD in his pocket and clasped his hands at this wrists behind his back, stepping through the door to sickbay. He spotted a doctor and cleared his throat to get their attention. "Doctor," he said in his usual deep voice. "I am Ensign san'Aerajhni," he greeted. He reproduced the PADD and placed it on the desk beside the man. "I am here for a physical evaluation."
A nurse tapped Savin on his sleeve to draw his attention, she was in near constant attendance to him to alert him to incoming patients. With Saryn busy in his office, it was left to Savin for the moment to treat anyone coming in. The young Vulcan turned and picked up the PADD that was laid down beside him. "I am Savin," he replied,, his soft voice supported by fluid hand signals, "I shall be your attending physician, my father is currently unavailable. Please, lay down." The young man indicated the biobed, while picking up a medical tricorder.
Rekoa inclined his head. "As you wish," he responded simply. He stared at the Vulcan and his surroundings with a blank expression on his face as he was guided to the bio-bed and pulled himself up as requested. Rekoa's dark eyes stared up at the ceiling as the bed was tilted downward so he was in a lying position. There didn't seem to be any accompanying inner thoughts of his as this occurred. His mind was empty to the point of strangeness and he remained silent as Savin worked.
Savin tapped his arm to get his attention, to get him to look in his direction. "Sir, do you have any pre-existing medical conditions that I should be made aware of, that may not be in your medical file? Any allergies? Prior injuries that may need further treatment?"
Rekoa replied, "There is no information that you require to know that is not present in my medical history." The Debrune man indicated the file he spoke of which sat on Savin's desk with a finger, detailing precisely what the corakmehn sickness did to his family. His response was monotonous. "I do not possess any allergies," Rekoa added.
The Vulcan inclined his head in acknowledgment while proceeding with his scans. "Please roll up one of your sleeves," he requested, "I am required to draw a few blood samples. From which arm I draw, is your choice sir, however I must insist it is done. If I do not do it now, my father will be requesting it later, and will find me derelict in my duties." He held up the syringe and a few vials. "I assure you, I am adept at this task."
Rekoa arched an eyebrow but held up his hand to still the man in his explanation. "I comprehend, doctor," he said calmly. He didn't seem perturbed but he did sit up and begin removing his boots. "You will not get a vein with that needle, doctor," he said, pausing from untying his shoes to look up at the man. He had already gathered the doctor was deaf by the use of sign language. "You will require a butterfly needle. My internal physiological structure differs from that of other Vulcanoid races." He pulled off his sock and placed his foot up on the bed, pointing to a particularly prominent vein in his ankle.
"I gathered that from the scan," Savin replied pleasantly, unperturbed by the man pulling off boot and sock. He accepted the butterfly needle from the attending nurse and applied the pressure-band around Rekoa's leg, just above the ankle. Holding the vein in place with the thumb and index finger of his right hand, he deftly slid the needle in with his left. How holding the needle in place by the butterflies with his right hand, keeping the small slim tube steady between the fingers of the same hand, he pressed the vials to the end of the tube, the vacuum in the vials supplying the necessary negative pressure to fill them with clear green blood. Once blood flowed, he released the pressure-band. One by one the tubes filled and, once satisfied, the young doctor removed first the last vial, then the needle from the vein, applying a little pressure with a bit of cottonwool on the small puncture wound. "Hold that," he instructed as he turned to label the vials and ordered the nurse to take them to the lab.
Rekoa watched blankly as the needle slid in, and didn't move at all. He lowered his hand and pressed it easily against the cottonwool as he was instructed, taking in the information around him silently.
Once he was done with the labeling, Savin checked the small wound for after-bleeding then ran the dermal regenerator over it. He was still getting used to the device and actually preferred not using it if he could avoid doing so. "I will have the result of the bloodtests ready in a few hours sir," he explained, "in the mean time, you are free to report to the captain. You are most likely to find Captain Gheskori on the bridge, if not, in his readyroom most likely." He paused, considering something. "I have no doubt the computer can tell you where he is sir." The youth seemed to be rambling, which was quite unusual given his genetics.
Rekoa inclined his head at the doctor. "I am familiar with the operation of this vessel's computer system," he reminded the younger man before pulling on his sock and boot and re-tying it efficiently. He stood up. "Am I free to leave?"
"Yes sir," the youth replied formally, stepping aside to let him pass. "I will contact you with the results as soon as I my father verified them."
Rekoa didn't reply, but turned and walked out to find the captain and report to him.

Saryn glanced up at the young Trill woman, taking a moment to study her before responding. "Yes ma'am," he answered softly, gesturing towards a seat. "Please, have a seat. I understand you have recently been joined and that you are being investigated." Perhaps investigated was a wrong choice of word but he had no idea how else to put it. Then again... "Assessed, may be more accurate," he amended as he circled around his desk to lean against it.
"I have done some research as I was not quite familiar with your species before, and I have discovered that under no circumstance, can they take your..symbiont...from you. If they do so, you will both terminate." He paused for a few seconds. "If they take Cet from you, you will both die. If there is any way in which I can assist you, in regards to the ah...administrator I believe she is?"
Saryn cast her a puzzled glance, not quite sure how to refer to Ryat. "If there is anyway I can assist," he repeated slowly, "you must tell me. If there are any medical documents or assessments she requires to see, please let me know?"

Vin considered what the captain said about meeting the trill representative, he did not know her that well but looked forward to meeting her, then he asked to check with all shifts to make sure there were no problems in security before they entered the system.
<Meetring>
Vin had stopped by his office to get a update from all shifts and grabbed the padd sitting on his desk with the information he needed. He started reading it as he left his office and headed for the lift taking it up to the bridge. He got off on the bridge and headed for the observation lounge and took a seat.
Vin spoke when it came to him. "Captain, I have been updated from all shifts, everything is in readiness, all shifts are prepared for anything, I have recommended that all security be armed." Vin stated.
<Ghes>
Ghes looked towards the window, the ship remained at high warp.
Vin nodded. "Sounds like a good idea to me."
Vin was going to talk to the Commander but she headed to the lift before he had a chance to talk to her, he would wait until she returned to discuss what they should do. He walked out of the meeting and headed to ops where Commander Matthew was.
"Commander, my teams are ready, we need to coordinate where and how best to use them, any suggestions?" Vin asked.

Gheskori nodded at Saryn's response that he'd limited experience with genetic engineering, but that he'd done research. "Very well, Doctor." Ghes looked to the table, still full with officers; he was about to dismiss them.
"Oh yes, Doctor... If memory serves, the Denobulans were well known to humans and vulcans in the 22nd century; weren't they? If you want any extra information on genetic engineering and the history of eugenics then you may want to have a look at Denobula's chequered past."
"Sir.." Saryn glanced sideways, staring directly at the Denobulan captain. "I request permission for either myself or my son to accompany Commander Parsons. Anything we may find in the administrator's office may be useful to our research."
"If that's alright with the Commander then permission granted. While their people have requested strictly Starfleet, I don't think there'll be any problem with sending a civilian member of my crew." He nodded and dismissed Saryn along with the rest of the senior staff.
<Tag Saryn>
Minutes passed by; Ghes was sat in the chair at the end of the conference table. He'd spoken to Tiana about the Trill rep's queries and dismissed her too. Now with his hands steepled together he peered with rabid concentration at the table's surface, thinking he might tick away the time to arrival at the system just simply sitting here for as long as possible. He began to liken his state to that of inert matter, situated in a space where nothing happened.
"Captain, I have been updated from all shifts, everything is in readiness, all shifts are prepared for anything, I have recommended that all security be armed." It was Vin Wolf stood at the door to the conference room.
"Ah thank you, Ensign," the Captain said, presenting a grin, "You may continue. Remember, when we are ready to disembark for the planet's surface, the security you take with you must not bear open arms."
<Tag Vin>
As Vin turned to leave, the door-chime rang, and as the security officer exited Elliane Ryat stepped in in his place.
"Representative; sorry to keep you waiting..." He stood up as she came to the table, decided to continue talking, "It's perhaps not what you're used to, what with the tight schedules they ran those utilitarian ships on in the 23rd century."
The representative paused before sitting, regarding Ghes briefly as if he'd sprouted a tree out of his head.
"Ah, well, of course I'm referring to the experiences of a previous host of yours. On a Federation starship?"
He sat at the table in unison with the Trill woman, making a gesture towards where Tiana had been sitting. "So what is required of me as pertaining to Commander Galwyn?" he asked, "...I don't know how much I could tell you about the symbiont's previous hosts."
<Tag Elliane>
Ghes called, "Come," as the door chimed once again. Then briefly glancing at Ryat to make sure he wasn't violating any confidentiality rule, he looked to see whom had entered.
A red collared officer of the Debrune species with a sure gait, brandishing a PADD with what must've been confirmation of orders. He stood before the table proferring the PADD, speaking his name and position. The Enzio's navigations officer had arrived.
"Hello, Ensign," Ghes smiled warmly and stood but refrained from a handshake - as it was the custom of Denobulans to avoid physical contact with non-intimates. The new officer would get used to that soon he reckoned, if he was made to realise immediately.. Of course, he thought then; such things didn't really matter either way.
So he offered his hand which was taken, and he pumped it with as much enthusiasm as had become expected of his race, for the Denobulans were seen to excel in all matters of social conduct. "I'm Captain Gheskori." He cocked his head, "Have you had a chance to stow your gear?"
<Tag Rekoa>
"Perhaps once that's done you can take the helm straight away, Ensign. I trust you're fully qualified to man a starship." He was back in his chair, grinning at the silly question, and hoping Elliane Ryat didn't find the impromptu first meeting too irregular or distracting from her objectives...

Elliane Ryat
Elliane entered the briefing room ready to speak to Captain Gheskori."Representative; sorry to keep you waiting..." He stood up as she came to the table, decided to continue talking, "It's perhaps not what you're used to, what with the tight schedules they ran those utilitarian ships on in the 23rd century."
Now there was a statement that brought back memories. Ryat hadn't been on many starships since the Excalibur and the Enzio was a very different ship. It had been a long time since had thought of those times. A wave of memories washed through her. Alyana had not had things easy she shivered slightly and settled into one of the chairs wondering where this conversation was going.
"Ah, well, of course I'm referring to the experiences of a previous host of yours. On a Federation starship?"
Elliane smiled suddenly feeling reassured, he was trying to welcome her. Maybe Tiana had told him or maybe he had simply done his research. "Alyana, Ryat's third host communications officer and later commanding officer USS Excalibur NCC 1664. First joined Trill in starfleet." She gave a wry smile "Not that the records said that for may years of course. I apologise for my lack of composure I was a little surprised that you mentioned her." Elliane's words gave no hint as to which 'her' she was referring to the host or the ship.
The Captain sat at the table in unison with the Trill woman, making a gesture towards where Tiana had been sitting. "So what is required of me as pertaining to Commander Galwyn?" he asked, "...I don't know how much I could tell you about the symbiont's previous hosts." Elliane nodded slowly.
"Tiana is Cet's 11th host. The other ten were all involved in defence or investigative professions. Normally once a pattern is established" She waved her hands around a little unable to believe that she was being this free with information but then no one had told her otherwise, not that she'd have listened... "Once a symbiont settles to a particular type of life then The Commission tries to maintain that. Obviously Tiana doesn't fit the pattern and hence the concern." She did not go any farther with the discussion. The traumatic memories that came with joining were not hers to spill.
"I understand that the joining occurred under rather traumatic circumstances. I would like to hear your understanding of the situation." Elliane knew she wasn't conducting this interview particularly formally but she wanted to find out how much Tiana had told others it would be a good way to gauge how the younger woman was coping.
Tag:Ghes
Elliane nodded as he finished speaking. "I would also like to hear in your own words how Tiana has behaved since her joining." An outsider's opinion was vital in this case.
Tag: Ghes
The door chime went off then an Ensign came into the room. Elliane stayed silent and watched the interaction between the officer and the Captain. It would give her further insight into the Captain.

ON:
While on duty in sickbay, Savin received a message from his father to go see Commander Parsons about an away mission. Somewhat thrilled, or as far as a Vulcan did get thrilled about anything, Savin sought out the first officer. Then again, as Tu-Jarok he was showing more emotion than a Vulcan who followed the path of a Tu-Surak. And, being deaf, he even needed to emote more to be able to communicate.
"Commander Parsons, a word please if you have the time?" the young doctor querried as soon as he'd located the first officer. "My father informed me that you were beaming down. I would like to accompany you and learn as much as possible so that my father and I can better aid you on this mission."

Sorry Saryn must have missed it, hope this makes up for it.
Tiana Galwyn
"Doctor, you wanted to speak to me?"
He looked up at her, Tiana wasn't sure what to make of his expression. There seemed to be unease in his face, he wasn't really looking forward to this conversation although Tiana had no idea what had made him uneasy.
"Yes ma'am," he answered softly, gesturing towards a seat. "Please, have a seat. I understand you have recently been joined and that you are being investigated." Again there was unease in his expression. "Assessed, may be more accurate," he amended as he circled around his desk to lean against it.

If there is any way in which I can assist you, in regards to the ah...administrator I believe she is?" Tiana nodded "Her title's Reprecentative. She's a lawyer and a judge more than an administrator. She'll be the one to argue my case back home." "If there is anyway I can assist," he repeated slowly, "you must tell me. If there are any medical documents or assessments she requires to see, please let me know?"
"Thank you for that." Tiana said, she scrubbed a hand through her hair "I imagine she'll want to go over exactly how seriously hurt Cet was and why Nawar, he was previous host, died. Just to check that the situation was ad bad as they said it was." Tiana gave a slightly wan smile. "My situation isn't quite as bad as that, even if they do decide against me. A few years back they did come up with some drugs that will allow symbiont removal without killing the host." Her voice was flat, she was trying to keep the emotion out of her voice. It was scientifically interesting the host symbiont bond and she could discuss scientific curiosities much more easily than discussing her future. "Of course it isn't perfect, if there are any injuries the host can still die." Her voice trailled off and she swallowed.
"If you have any further questions about Trill feel free to ask."

"With regard to the genetic engineering most races have dabbled in it at some time or other with varying degrees of sucess. In this case we have to assume sucess to a measureable degree. We should examine every study that's been made and for every genetic change we identify we should work out what that will do to people we will be dealing with. When we run out of data we can look at the genome and see how we would have implented the changes we can infer that they have made.
She started calling up the research, there was quite a bit. write up from earlier encounters, autopsy reports and a few scientific papers. It would take a while to go through it all and more time to make sense of it all.

"I understand that the joining occurred under rather traumatic circumstances. I would like to hear your understanding of the situation."
Ghes nodded. His lips were pursed, a sure sign to anyone that he was engaged in deep thought; in this case, he was wracking his brains for the memories of when Tiana first had Cet forced upon her. Times and events had become somewhat jumbled up in his head, he realised. Images and flashes of fleets of ships; a jagged battlecruiser facing off against a dozen Fed vessels.
Yes of course, he thought, tapping the edge of the table. The Kasar incident. Tiberian Wong's green marine-uniform handing over command of the USS Victory to Ghes, and ordering the Denobulan to place him under arrest. Cet: Patrizia Cain's first officer.
"Her joining with the Cet symbiont specifically," he said to Elliane, "You're right. It was a particularly traumatic time. A mission when we were both on the USS Victory. As you'll know, Cet's previous host was the first officer of a starship. He was killed in a shuttle incident and with Tiana being the only nearby Trill, the symbiont was saved via her. It's somewhat fuzzy for me personally; my main memories are of manning the helm trying to out-manoeuvre a Kasar cruiser."
He paused to fetch some tea from the replicator - inquiring if Ryat wanted one - and smiling to himself as he returned to the table - stirring the liquid with a teaspoon. "It's my understanding she's had some trouble adjusting; but that's understandable or so I'm told. She's had help though. Admiral Magellan Lin. Ensign Wolf; on this starship."
<Tag Elliane>
As she replied to his information, Ghes wandered - almost absently - to the window. He looked out at the stars, the stellar light distorted from the observer's position inside the warp bubble.
"So, Representative." He said shortly, displaying an obvious change in tone. "You haven't told me of the final objective of your visit."
Ryat's expression looked puzzled in the reflection of the portal glass; Ghes turned back to her. "Once you've collected all your information, evaluated Commander Galwyn to the full, what then? A report back to headquarters, or is something more direct going to take place? If this affects my officer... in any way, which prevents her duties to Starfleet being carried out, I'll need to know regardless of issues of confidentiality."
<Tag Elliane> - I guess that'll be all for this part

OOC: Please scan up, for I have written 2 posts. You guys have free rein on questions/reports Ghes requests, by the way. 6 hours later... traversing Tycho Havulkis heliopauseThe Enzio's streamlined form almost seemed one with the streaking stars behind it. She'd dropped several multiples of light speed, the starfield warped less and less as the matter/anti-matter drive was gradually throttled down. From a place at the very outskirts of the system, if viewed through a primitive telescopic device of average magnification, the ship might appear as a miniscule nimbus of grey matter. However, even such a glimpsing sight as that was a virtual impossibility, for in practice the ship would be utterly undetectable by the naked eye unless one knew exactly where to look. Gheskori was sat in the command chair, gazing pointedly at the viewscreen (magnified to a high level) and the rapidly growing haze of nebulous matter displayed on it. He'd spent little time in the command seat, he realised; not as much as he would've wished anyway. Still, it meant he was busy elsewhere. The Denobulan Captain had called all his senior staff up to the bridge, wanting all of them manning the stations critical to their respective departments. This was so they could take master control of their departments even for those below deck, and also Ghes could speak directly to any of them should he need to. It felt like a good luxury to have at this... this all too critical moment. "Ensign san'Aerajhni, are we pointing directly along the recommended vector?" The helmsman reported affirmative. It was essential, Ghes knew, that the Enzio followed this route in - in behind the nebula, through it, then ducking below the ecliptic and sweeping up into the system proper towards their destination. The Breen had to remain unaware of their arrival. He looked around at the staff he'd summoned. Tiana was on the side of the bridge at science, working with the vulcan Savin. Vin was behind the first officer chair in his standing position at tactical. Rekoa manned the helm and James Matthew sat next to the CNO. Ghes turned to Adam Parsons - the man sitting to his right. "Commander... prepare your away team for planetary excursion. We want to be punctual for the Tycho Havulkans." Not correct nomenclature, he thought afterwards, but never mind. <Cmdr. Parsons>The Commander rose to carry out his orders. That was when something odd was detected by the ship's mid-range sensors. "Sir, picking up engine signatures... I think, from beyond the nebula. Just sensor ghosts really, they're barely there." Ghes was immediately on alert. There weren't supposed to be any ships in the system. The Breen weren't due for three days, and the locals didn't have the required intrasystem capability to be out this far. "Odd," he said, "Give me more, Commander." Matthew was ready to give more. "They're approximately equidistant with us from the nebula, and apparently just sitting stationary. Minutes passed and the Enzio approached the nebula. This was a critical part of the operation, everything had to pass off in a particular manner. However, with vessels present whose intentions were unknown... Ghes was pacing the bridge now. "Commander, has there been any change in those ships' positions? Any activity to suggest they might be responding to our approach?" Matthew shook his head definitively. "None, sir." Ghes paused in his step, considering furiously. He'd crossed his arms, now fingering his jawline with a raised hand. He made a split second decision. "Let's continue." The Enzio passed into the nebula. All watched the sight on the viewscreen as the ship cut deep into layers of colourful miasmic cloud. The dust cloud was the colour and texture of a dashed lasagne: yellows, creams and reds all swirled together in decidedly nauseating patterns, swirls. Every now and then there would be a rupture in the cloud formations - pockets of highly pressurised gas bursting and letting forth all manner of high energy particles. Much like the bubbling of a cauldron, Ghes thought. Almost as soon as they hit the main mass of the nebula the engines cut out. Reports of power failure leapt from station to station, shocked crews reporting loss of operation of systems. "What was that?" Ghes asked. The answer, to his surprise, seemingly had nothing to do with the group of ships on the nebula's far side. It was, according to Commanders Matthew and Galwyn's sensors, the nebula itself. "Find out how this is happening," he demanded, "How could it be the nebula? Was there something we missed in scans? <Cmdr. Matthew; Cmdr. Galwyn>"Savin, report below to your father and see to the injured," Ghes ordered, looking at his side-arm panel as it reported several casualties in and around engineering. <Tag Saryn/Savin>Ghes pondered in his command chair. The ship was stopped dead. Of course, anyone with a basic grasp of Newtonian physics knew a ship didn't just stop when its engines cut out; for it was still moving under its own inertia. Something had to physically apply a force to stop it. Somehow, the nebula was dampening warp-like movement, and it'd also temporarily disabled and physically damaged engines and other systems. "Wolf; give me a scan of those ships out there, if you can. Who are they?" <Tag Vin Wolf>Ghes looked to the helmsman. Rekoa was getting more than his fair share of action not long into his assignment. "Do we still have thrusters, Ensign?" he asked, "If you can, propel us forwards. We won't get out of the nebula in a long while this way, but it's a start.... I trust you can plot around the gas pockets?" <Tag Rekoa san'Aerajhni>The Enzio was all but dead in the water. To think, Ghes thought, that this had been the only route into the system... Through a nebula which just happened to be a starship momentum-killer. Coincidence? he thought. He and Parsons shared a look. Hmmm..... The only certainty was that they were going to be late for their appointment. <Tag Parsons/All>

"I will," the Vulcan doctor promised, filing her words away for further study. He would help her in any way he could, and if she wished to retain her symbiont, he would make sure that she could too. Provided he could do so and would be allowed to do so, given he was a civilian and not a starfleet officer.
"Shall we stay here to do our research?"
"You are more familiar with this equipment than I am ma'am, if you believe this is a suitable location, then I shall not object."
"I would like to see more information of the species itself, as well as what they were like before the changes, to make any logical deduction," Saryn replied as he studied the data he was given. "I am a doctor, not a scientist ma'am, and I am still brushing up on present technology, as Humans call it. I have almost two-hundred years of catching up to do."
[Galwyn]
Bridge, 6 hours later
"Savin, report below to your father and see to the injured," Ghes ordered, looking at his side-arm panel as it reported several casualties in and around engineering.
The young Vulcan, however, did not move from where he was standing. There were injured on the bridge too and it would be derelict not to see to them first. From a cabinet he grabbed a basic medkit and started moving around the bridge, scanning each and everyone to make sure they were all right. "My father does not require my assistance," he pointed out, "he has sufficient medical staff on duty. My place is here sir, and soon on the away team. You will need a medic on the away team, and I am ready to go."

Elliane Ryat "Her joining with the Cet symbiont specifically," Gheskori said to Elliane, "You're right. It was a particularly traumatic time. A mission when we were both on the USS Victory. As you'll know, Cet's previous host was the first officer of a starship. He was killed in a shuttle incident and with Tiana being the only nearby Trill, the symbiont was saved via her. It's somewhat fuzzy for me personally; my main memories are of manning the helm trying to out-manoeuvre a Kasar cruiser." Elliane gave a small smile, she had known that Captain Gheskori hadn't been Tiana's commanding officer at the time of the joining but she hadn't known what position he had held.
"It's my understanding she's had some trouble adjusting; but that's understandable or so I'm told. She's had help though. Admiral Magellan Lin. Ensign Wolf; on this starship."
Elliane nodded. "It is certainly understandable that she has had some trouble adjusting to the symbiont. I am glad that she has people to talk to. She seems popular with the crew and has a supportive commanding officer." Here she paused a second to look at the Captain. "I believe that Tiana has more support than some Trill who remain at home."
"So, Representative." The Captain said shortly, displaying an obvious change in tone. "You haven't told me of the final objective of your visit."
'Final Objective' it was an interesting choice of words. Elliane couldn't help but try to read implications into what the Captain had said. She wondered if he thought she was an enemy, if he thought she was here to take one of his crew away then she could not fault his instincts.
"Once you've collected all your information, evaluated Commander Galwyn to the full, what then? A report back to headquarters, or is something more direct going to take place? If this affects my officer... in any way, which prevents her duties to Starfleet being carried out, I'll need to know regardless of issues of confidentiality."
He clarified his question but it didn't really make things easier for Elliane to answer the question. "I am to make my report directly to the Symbiosis Commission. It will then be their decision, based on my recommendations, whether to call Commander Galwyn and Cet home." She swallowed knowing that what she had said so far was not going to reassure the Captain at all. "I will tell you confidentially that I am going to recommend that Commander Galwyn be allowed to stay joined to Cet. I will also inform the Commander before I leave the ship but neither of you can say anything until official word comes through." Elliane swallowed. She thought the Symbiosis Commission were unnecessarily bureaucratic and dictatorial. Tiana had joined with Cet in order to save the symbiont's life that was clear. It hadn't been something the young woman had wanted and she had certainly done her best to cope and complete her duties since then. She did not need the Commission dragging her across the quadrant and putting her through life altering surgery.

Tiana Galwyn "I would like to see more information of the species itself, as well as what they were like before the changes, to make any logical deduction," Saryn replied as he studied the data he was given. "I am a doctor, not a scientist ma'am, and I am still brushing up on present technology, as Humans call it. I have almost two-hundred years of catching up to do."Tiana smiled, and called up what information they had on the base species. "I think you are doing a very good job of adapting Doctor. If you or your family need any help or just a listening ear. I would be happy to to offer." The two of them got on with their assigned task. Tiana wished she had more information to work with. She could make any number of hypotheses but without further evidence there was no way she could test any of her ideas. The kicker was she didn't really want to get that evidence as getting it would be the Enzio had been uin conflict with these people. **************************************
Six hours later - Tiana had come to the bridge when she entered the nebula. She was quietly monitoring the acquisition of data and trying to formulate further ideas. Then there was a shock and her station and all the surrounding ones flickered and died. The last screen she had seen before the station died was the real surprise. It had shown the energy being generated by the nebula its self. "Find out how this is happening," The Captain demanded, "How could it be the nebula? Was there something we missed in scans?"
Tiana swallowed thing fast. There had been some electrical activity in the nebula that she had not managed to pin down a cause for... Still it was a big leap from that to assigning the gascloud some form of intelligence or instinct even if such things had been encountered before. Far more likely that someone else was using the cloud as a weapon or as a cover for a weapon. "Bringing the ship to a stop like that would require an inertial dampening field of some description and a very large power source. I saw no trace of the field before the systems went down so I can only assume that they brought it up quickly. As for the rest..." Tiana took a moment to marshal her thoughts before laying out her preliminary ideas.

"My father does not require my assistance," he pointed out, "he has sufficient medical staff on duty. My place is here sir, and soon on the away team. You will need a medic on the away team, and I am ready to go."
Ghes nodded, supposing that the Doctor's son could stay on the bridge for the mean time. Besides, it was a better option than having to call someone up from sickbay to handle the injured. "Very well, Savin," he said, positioning himself so the young vulcan could hear him, "You can remain. Treat Ensign Harvey first."
<Tag Saryn/Savin>
The youthful Ensign Harvey lay flat on the deck, with what looked like third degree burns seared across his thorax. Ghes feared for him immediately, but found himself placing trust in Savin to repair the damage.
... A rather cold, objective way of thinking about it... the Denobulan considered.
"Helm, how far are we from the edge of the nebula?" he requested. He knew the progress would've been slow; getting by on Newtonian-level thrusters in a nebula designed to drain power was not an ideal means of travel. Such nebulae had been encountered before by the Federation, perhaps notably by the USS Enterprise some thirty years ago. But, Ghes thought, that'd been a natural phenomenon; this, in all likelihood was not.
<Tag Rekoa>
The assistant science officer spoke. "Sir, those ships on the edge of the nebula have resolved themselves into three separate engine signatures... They're the ships native to the system, I believe. One of them is also emitting an unusual tight beam of particle radiation towards the nebula. Very exotic."
Gheskori rapidly thought this over before looking to Commander Matthew at operations. "Get all the information you can on that particle beam Commander. Logic - " he glanced at Savin "- would dictate that it's what's causing the energy drain. What would you say, Savin?"
<Tag Saryn/Savin; Cmdr. Matthew>
The bridge calmed down over the next few minutes, returning to a gradual flow of activity as the officers went about their duties. One by one Savin treated the patients, and Ghes did eventually have someone come up from sickbay to help him.
The Captain had returned to his seat, pondering, musing in meandering waves of thought from one idea to the next. But the truth was there was nothing further to be done at this point; nothing except wait. The engines were out cold, consoles had overloaded, and the ship was drifting half-disabled through a nebula siphoning of their power like some vast mechanical pump.
Miasmic spirals of colour were disturbed as a silver object streaked through layers of dust. It veered on the z-plus through a thick patch of cloud and came into a patch of lesser density, and within seconds the Prometheus class ship was optically visible before it.
The object had a forward window, and behind the forward window were a pair of soldiers; or officers; or people, in fact would suffice. One of them was named Tenao.
"Ship in visual range, Tenao."
"Good..." the man looked to the screen, and using his optical implants and genetically enhanced retinae (which granted him much extended sight) he espied the USS Enzio from afar. "Hail them and have us dock. Let's be polite for today."
The bridge of the Enzio had noticeably picked up in activity since a few minutes ago. "Sir, incoming ship. A shuttle, requesting to dock."
"Reply and tell them to wait for now, but extend our standard greeting." Ghes had ordered quickly. It was soon found out that it was another ship belonging to the species resident of this sector. They wanted to dock, but Ghes wasn't going to let them until he knew what was going on.
"Sir, comms are down, we can't reply. They state, 'we will let them dock at our primary port or they will fire weapons'..." Ghes braced himself, he knew what was coming next. "Shields are also down, sir."
He sighed, resisting the heady temptation to bash the chair's armrest. "Let them aboard. Commander Parsons, Ensign Wolf, you're with me. Vin, have a security team ready and fully armed. Commander Matthew you have the bridge." He pressed a button on his panel, "Commander Galwyn, report to docking port one; we have company."

The computers had stabilised somewhat although Tiana knew she hadn't had much to do with that still some of the sensors were on line or the approaching ship would never have been recognised as a shuttle. It was hard to give a scientist too much data and right now she needed more of it. She could see no evidence of a dampening field and she really wanted to check the gas currents although she might have to send some buoys out to visualise them properly given the current limitations.
The Captain sighed "Let them aboard. Commander Parsons, Ensign Wolf, you're with me. Vin, have a security team ready and fully armed. Commander Matthew you have the bridge." He pressed a button on his panel, "Commander Galwyn, report to docking port one; we have company."
Tiana looked up from the science station at the Captain's words. "Yes, sir." She acknowledged the order and gestured for Ensign Merez to take her place at the science station. Tiana walked the few steps to the turbolift scooping up her tricorder as so did so. She wasn't aware that her free her hand went to the phaser on her hip a move made automatic by lifetimes of memories that she was still swimming through. While she was doing science it was easy to remember that she was Tiana when pushed into a security related situation the memories surface and she became a little less Tiana and a little more all the previous hosts. It wasn't that she felt that she was in danger of loosing herself in the memories although she imagined that there were triggers that could cause that to happen; it was more that she didn't feel comfortable in her own head at those moments.
As the turbolift door closed shutting the three of them away from the bridge Tiana turned to her Captain. "Is there anything specific you want me to do or watch for when our guests come aboard?" She was a little puzzled why he had asked her to accompany him.

[Another post to read below this one. This one's getting the actual docking done but is still important, while the second one has slightly more substance.]
Tenao was accompanied by his retinue as he made his way to the airlock of his craft. They flanked him in silent observation, ready to leap to his defence should the Federation personnel make any hostile move.
Upon reaching the airlock, Tenao immediately tapped into his higher senses. Genetic implants came alive in furious mental whirr as he began the customary process of mapping out the contours in his mind. Behind the door... An opening airlock and a group of people, shuffling about in preparation for welcoming what they probably thought was a boarding party. Of course that wasn't why they'd come.
Tenao touched the airlock, running his fingers along the sharp metal edge, and looked to the pipes running through the wall near the ceiling. Audial enhancements let him visualise the paths and directions sound waves took, and he mentally constructed the conversations and further refined the bodily positions of the Starfleet officers beyond the door.
He smiled at their talk. Fine people they were going to be to work with, he suspected.
"Is there anything specific you want me to do or watch for when our guests come aboard?" Tiana asked.
Ghes was feeling tense but somewhat well prepared for this boarding action - or whatever it was. He felt he could even afford a smile, and his mood even took another upward turn when his science officer voiced her question. "Just observe their actions, perhaps their oddities in behaviour if those exist," he offered, "If we're right and they're the locals to this system, they'll have significant body enhancements - physical and mental. It should help you in your research into their genetic modifications to see them in action."
<Tag Tiana>
The Captain stopped to think, nearly started talking again but then decided against. In the beginning, he hadn't given his staff the full extent of knowledge available on these people. And now his words might've suggested to Tiana that he did know that bit more, so perhaps it was best to reserve the knowledge for later.
The airlock's automatic systems had scanned the other side for weapons and found none active, so Ghes readied his staff. They stood in formation with Gheskori placing himself at the front. Vin stood to the left, phaser holstered at his side but kept very much at the ready, and his security officers arrayed themselves behind with another pair out of sight in the corridor further back. Parsons and Galwyn stood on the right.
The airlock peeled back, booted feet almost instantly moving through. Uniformed bodies filed in and before long half a dozen people stood arrayed before them. No obvious physical exceptionalities, Gheskori saw to his surprise.

"Hello, I'm Tenao," he spoke. "Welcome to our domain, we've been expecting you, although I'm afraid to say we've had to halt your progress early. It's for your own safety you see." He paused and observed the reactions of the half-dozen people before him. Keep playing it, Tenao, you are doing an excellent job, his quasi-alter ego said.
"Captain Gheskori, commander of this vessel, the Federation starship Enzio," their leader said. He was of slightly different appearance to the others, and was giving an odd look, "So you are responsible for disabling our ship. You threatened us and have boarded us. Know it's only my compassion and lack of understanding of this situation that's prevented a harsh response."
Tenao was mildly taken-aback. The ship's Captain was of abnormal temperament, his actions striking an odd balance between anger, quirky curiosity, and what strangely seemed like elation. Anyway, it was time to enact the second stage of subterfuge.
"Captain Gheskori, let me give a quick explanation and then I can start working with you.
"Those known as the Breen arrive back here in two days with their occupation force. We've stopped you here because of a different threat that's close-by. Dissidents among our population, planning terrorist acts against your ship are in the area. Only by making your malaise appear an accident could we avoid arousing any suspicions they might have."
"What suspicions?" the Captain asked. Tenao was amused. The man was grasping hold of a possible question in what must've been a confusing situation.
"That we the government know what they were planning against you, of course," Tenao said, "Disabling your vessel here has prevented a catastrophe for you. But now we've removed the dampening field it should return to normal.
"Let me continue and then we can get to work. I'm a scientist, these are my assistants, my bodyguards and my craft's pilot. I'm here to help develop a defence against the Breen, for it'll be needed. Your mission, if I'm right, is deterrence against the Breen occupation force and diplomatic mediation. It won't work," he delivered it flatly, "We've foreseen it, sensed it. We've seen more over the last few months than we ever have before."
He kept talking, finding the words - those cores of truth coated with lies - pouring from his mouth.
Gheskori took leave with his officers immediately. He needed to absorb this information, needed to consult his staff to prevent further tides of confusion.
They retreated to the corridor adjacent while the security guards kept watch, and Ghes spoke quietly to Adam, Tiana and Vin. He sorted out the information in his head and spoke; what came out were orders. "Ensign Wolf, assign Tenao and his four assistants guest quarters; post guards, but give them space. Let the shuttle and its pilot back to space but keep tabs on them when you get back to the bridge. Assuming it returns to those three ships out there, I want to know exactly where they go."
<Tag Vin>
"Tiana, me and you will meet with Tenao in the science lab. Whatever he wants to do about the Breen, or whatever he thinks the Breen can do that we can't prevent... We should for now at least listen to what he has to say."
"What do you think he meant when he said, they know more now than ever before?" Parsons asked the group.
Ghes scratched his chin. "I'm not entirely sure. But did you see him tapping his forehead? ... Maybe their genetics."
The group split up, Ghes leaving Vin to organise the guest quarters, as he could see their 'visitors' were standing impatiently. The Denobulan and Tiana headed for the science lab, where they'd wait for Tenao to arrive (hopefully with some security just to watch, if Vin was sensible but not over-attentive).
<Tag Tiana> <Tag Vin>
Gheskori had hailed the bridge minutes earlier. "Commander Matthew report, is that shuttle making its way back to its' mother vessels? Track them closely now." He waited for Matthew's response then continued, "Anything further on those tachyon readings?" Matthew gave his report, then Ghes made one more request. "Have Savin pass on to his father that I'd like him to come down here. I wonder if his telepathy and medical background can shed some light on these people...Their minds, their bodies..."

Saryn had been trying to gather as much information on these enhanced people as he could, but Starfleet wasn't offering much in that aspect. He had resorted to going to the ship's library and 'pester' the librarian with question upon question. Savin had followed him, leaving sickbay in the capable hands of the assistant chief medical officer.
The older Vulcan looked up when his son's combadge chirped and arched an eyebrow. It was commonly known his son was deaf and that one had to resort to visual means of contacting him. Quietly, he nudged the younger man. Communication signal he signed, then nodded over to the nearest console for him to use.
Savin gracefully rose from his seat, setting aside the PADD he had been using. Accessing the console, he watched as the spoken lines were rendered into text for him and nodded. "I will inform him sir," he replied, "he will be with you shortly."
He turned and headed back to the comfortable seats they had been occupying. "Father, Captain Gheskori wants you to head over and join him in the other vessel's science laboratory. Do you wish for me to accompany you?"
Saryn, having watched the exchange from a slight distance, nodded. "Affirmative," he answered, knowing he had his son's attention and knowing that he could see what he said without sign language. "Attend me."
Both Vulcans soon joined the captain, both dressed in a standard Starfleet medical uniform, though neither wearing any sign or form of rank. "You wished for us to join you captain?" Saryn asked softly, while his gaze fell upon Tenao. "Are you injured sir? Do you need medical attention?" It was addressed to both Tenao as well as Gheskori. Meanwhile, Savin had ventured forward to come face to face with their host, studying him intently, all without saying a word. He was letting his senses speak for themselves, and he didn't really like what he felt so far.
[Ghes/Tenao]
The young doctor turned. I do not trust him he signaled I do not know why, but I do not trust him. Something is wrong.
Saryn nodded. "Savin says something is wrong," he conveyed covertly to his commanding officer. "Is that why you requested my presence?"

Tiana could practically feel the waves of tension coming off her CO. She was observant but hadn't often applied her skills to people watching. Cet's experience in that area was something she had even really registered until this moment. People were complicated but they could be studied and predicted. Right now, like Tiana herself, Ghes was nervous, neither of them knew what to expect. "Just observe their actions, perhaps their oddities in behaviour if those exist," he offered, "If we're right and they're the locals to this system, they'll have significant body enhancements - physical and mental. It should help you in your research into their genetic modifications to see them in action."
Tiana stood silently and listened to what the visitor was say. She was doing her best to look relaxed but she could feel the tension in her body. Her hand hung loosely at her side as close as her fingers could get to the phaser without being obvious. At least she was pretty sure she was being obvious.
The words he was saying made sense to Tiana however she had the nagging feeling that he wasn't being completely honest. Then again she supposed it was an unusual situation and if she were in his position she doubted that she would be completely honest.
"Tiana, me and you will meet with Tenao in the science lab. Whatever he wants to do about the Breen, or whatever he thinks the Breen can do that we can't prevent... We should for now at least listen to what he has to say."
"Of course, sir. I shall meet you in the labshortly." Tiana headed off to make arrangements. The first thing she did was set passive monitoring in the room going, the second was to put a selection of relatively innocuous objects on the work bench next to her work station. She would get answers one way or another.

".. Sir, there may not be any crew on board any of those ships. The two other ships may be automated drones?"
Ghes scratched his chin as he walked to the science lab, growing more and more perplexed at the situation, increasingly so with Matthew's report. "This is curious, Commander," he commented over the comm-line, "So the mothership is unmanned and has attendant drones... rather than any personnel? It hardly speaks of a delegation from the government when their most senior person out here is our guest Tenao, does it?."
He didn't say them aloud but Ghes uttered further bewildered thoughts in his mind. What was going on here? He now very much felt Tenao could not be trusted; signal pulses and automated units, convoluted explanations supposedly explaining their aggression? These concerns could only be alleviated in another meeting with the man - the supposed scientist as he claimed himself to be.
"Anything further on those tachyon readings?" he asked Matthew shortly.
"Captain we're constantly scanning the area for spatial anomalies, such as cloaked ships, we are now checking the data-stream being sent out back and forth between the mother ship and the other two ships..."
Matthew's report continued, detailing their scanning of the region where odd signals had emanated from the cloudy depths of the nebula. Ghes nodded along, despite the Ops officer's presence a hundred or so metres away up on the bridge.
"See if you can hack that data stream," he suggested after some thought, "Break through the firewalls into each ship's computer core. Perhaps we can figure out more about these people and what their actual intentions are. Use the science and tactical departments to assist if you wish."

Now Gheskori steeled himself and made more directly for the science lab. He knew Tiana had gone ahead of him to make a number of 'preparations'. Now he had only to ensure that he arrived before Tenao and the security officers assigned to him. It wasn't, of course, that he wanted to prevent Tiana's scans of Tenao, for it was very much an essential subterfuge measure (Tenao would surely be aware of such monitoring anyway); no, it was rather because he'd prefer to be there first, ready to welcome their guest.
For being present in the room when Tenao arrived would make the meeting seem less conspicuous, would reassure Tenao as to their intentions and also ease any related tensions.
Ten minutes later...
"And this is our specimen research laboratory, where our xenobiology and biochemistry specialists study samples gathered from routine planetary surveys." Tenao looked through the partition into the small corner section. Ghes had been pointing out areas of the science lab to the guest and his retinue member present. "Of course though, you should ask Commander Galwyn about such things. I did use to be a science officer, but it's been a long time since I peered through the quantum microscope." Tenao just stared at the room, as if unaware of Ghes's talk.
At that moment two blue-collared vulcans entered, Ghes immediately catching them out of his wide periphery. He thought the pair - father and son - looked rather striking in their newly adorned Starfleet uniforms; up to this point both had been wearing civilian clothing and/or vulcan garb.
"You wished for us to join you captain?" Saryn asked softly, while his gaze fell upon Tenao. "Are you injured sir? Do you need medical attention?" It was addressed to both Tenao as well as Gheskori.
"We're fine for the moment, Doctor..." Ghes spoke, "Yes, I called you down here to meet our guest. I thought it best he should be acquainted with our senior staff. Tenao, meet the Ship's Doctor, Saryn of vulcan."
There were nods, silence falling heavy in the aftermath. Deep psychic gaze penetrated the room, eyes like infinite pits of glittering obsidian; reserves of mind-reading energy, pooling and tunnelling, leaping the gap through the intangible field over which telepathy could function.
Tenao stood impassive, staring back at the young vulcan who stood facing him. Slowly Savin turned from the visitor to his father, and Ghes detected something. Just a flicker of the senses; he was half aware of unseen and unknown communication... flittering across the room in some higher dimension.
"Savin says something is wrong. Is that why you requested my presence?" Saryn said to him covertly and suddenly.
Ghes tried not to react too heavily. He simply nodded, then indicated with a motion of his hand for Saryn to turn and follow him. He signalled over at Tiana, telling her that she should keep Tenao occupied...

The security officers stepped imperceptibly forwards towards Tenao and his friend as Saryn and Gheskori exited with Savin. It was an incredibly suspicious action, but such a fast telepathic reaction from Savin well warranted the response, in Ghes's opinion.
"Yes," Ghes answered Saryn once the door had shut tight, "There's something wrong. Supposedly that man in there is here to help us develop a defence against the Breen, who are to arrive back in two days. But it seems suspicious... His story is convoluted and... well, what? Is he lying?"
Gheskori had turned to Savin, ensuring he could be seen and heard by the doctor's son, wanting to know what he thought he had detected.

Savin had to think on the answer for a moment. "I cannot be certain," he replied after a long silence, "I was not in contact with him long enough to get more than a surface reading, I could not touch him. To see and learn more, I require touch."
Saryn shook his head. "I will not allow you near him again," he warned, "he is dangerous." The fingers of his left hand went towards where normally the handle of his sword would be, and he frowned when he came up empty-handed. He did not have his red-bladed weapon with him which he regretted at this point, and it showed on his features.
"I will need to father, if I am to learn if he is lying." The young Vulcan stood facing his elder, expression tight and eyes sparkling furiously. He held the other man's gaze until Saryn broke it, leaving Savin feeling ever so slightly triumphant.
Triumph is an emotion my son Saryn warned silently, seeing the emotion flicker across the youth's face. His hand signals were fluid and short, but not hard to miss. "Captain, if my son is guarded at all times, I will allow him near Tenao. Do not allow harm to come to him." The threat was veiled, but quite present. The warrior Vulcan wasn't kidding when it came to the safety of his off-spring. "He will require a weapon."
"I have a weapon," Savin countered, producing a small dagger from his left boot, then concealing it again. "A marine gave this to me prior to our departure, he reasoned I might need it as I would not be allowed the use of a phaser." The younger Vulcan turned towards the captain. "I am ready to face Tenao again," he announced quietly, "and I will draw from him what you require to learn. You have my word captain."
Saryn knew that, when Savin had made up his mind, there was little he could do to change it. The boy was just as stubborn as his old man, as the Humans would say it.

"I am ready to face Tenao again," Savin announced quietly, "and I will draw from him what you require to learn. You have my word captain."Ghes wasn't sure how sensible it would be to allow Savin to wear a concealed weapon around their guest, especially as the young vulcan was going to attempt to come into contact with the stranger. He knew the two vulcans were waiting for him to say something, but his immediate instinct regarding this matter was unfortunately not something they'd wish to hear. But then, while he knew that at all times he had to be inserting his authority, he also knew he had to take into account the viewpoints of his crew as well as the current situation the USS Enzio was faced with. "I'm not sure this is wise," he said, "But if you believe it is safe for your son to proceed, Doctor Saryn, then ok, we will do it." Ghes hadn't been oblivious to the veiled yet clear threat from Saryn; the vulcan physician would surely have been aware of that, so Ghes allowed this concession. After all, Commander Parsons had joined them as a means of assurance through authority, passing into the science lab on Gheskori's instruction a moment ago during the two vulcans' exchange. The group re-entered the room. Ghes donned his customary gregarious smile and adjusted his direction of walk to move to where Tenao and his associate had been standing. But they were gone; the lights were dim, flashing emergency red; trays and samples had been scattered and dashed across the floor. "How weren't we...." Ghes began, before steeling his gaze as he saw the XO and half a dozen science personnel prone over their consoles or sprawled on the floor, all around the lab, "Security to science lab one, we have an emergency! Bridge! Red Alert!" Ghes looked over at Saryn and Savin, both standing impassively but surely with a sense of shock. He exchanged glances with them and signalled Parsons and the downed science staff. "Check them. Unconscious or worse?" On the bridge, the on-duty tactical officer - standing in for Ensign Wolf who was leading the recently mobilised security team - scanned the ship's interior. He triangulated the intraship sensors with those operated by Commander Matthew.
"Captain Gheskori," he commed the CO, "I'm picking up the intruders on your deck, five sections away. They're moving very fast. Our other three guests are on the deck of their quarters, four above yours; I think they're attempting rendezvous with Tenao and the other one.""We'll cut them off in the next section," Ghes reported back, performing the 'angle-of-attack' calculations quickly in his head, "Saryn, Savin, with me. Perhaps with Wolf's assistance we can ambush them. Where are our guests heading, Ensign?" he asked the officer on the bridge. The tactical officer tilted his head, unsure. "...Perhaps deflector control." His eyes suddenly became glued to the externally-facing sensors. "Sir! Those ships out there that Tenao came from are turning away."
Ghes's channel was suddenly and unexpectedly cut, and then things just seemed to get worse.
"Commander Matthew," he said warily to the senior officer on the bridge, "Are those Breen ships appearing on long range sensors?"<Tag all - I think we're approaching an end to this one soon. Let's finish the mission with a blast. >
