"I'll call the doctor back." Firestorm flicked his tail, knowing that it was often best to let the attending physician tend to their own patients. "I'l relieved to see you well commander," the feline added as his tail curled around Stacey's wrist in an almost affectionate manner. "If you sit down on that bed overthere, I'll call him back. Poor man was in a right state when Corporal Mitchell walked in."
The Sivaoan doctor directed the former counselor to a biobed, keeping up a constant babble as he did so. "He went as white as a sheet he did, I honestly thought he was going to faint. I'm not sure if he's capable of tending to you now ma'am but I'll call him anyway." He stepped away from the bed and tapped his combadge. "Doctor Van Breughel, your presence is requested in sickbay."
"Is it an emergency?" came back Jayden's voice, "I've just got him calmed down and settled with a glass of port."
"Corporal..when I call for the CMO to report in, trust me it is necessary." The feline sounded a little irked. "And I think the distraction will do him a world of good. Kindly have him report back, and next time, let him answer his own calls please."
"I'll be right there doctor," Nathan replied calmly, "give me a few minutes."
"Of course doctor." Firestorm turned back to Stacey. "He'll be right over ma'am, just make yourself comfortable for the moment."
Stacey gave him a warm smile. "Thank you, I shall attempt to do so." She replied equally as warmly as her smile.
Roughly ten minutes later, the chief medical officer walked in, glass of port still in his hand. He even offered a smile as he saw his friend sitting on the bed. "How are you feeling Stacey? Arm still bothering you?" At her nod, he set the glass aside and approached, gently probing the injured area. "I'm going to ruin your uniform commander, I need the sleeve removed and some of the ah...rest of it. I'll not embarass you by asking you to take it off."
Deftly he cut away the desired portion thereby leaving her most of the tunic and her dignity. He made a hissing sound as he surveyed the damage, reaching for the bowl of saline solution and a cloth Firestorm had readied for him. "This might sting," he warned as he set out to clean the wound by hand, before applying a dermal regenerator and finally a light bandage. "Don't move it too much, I'm letting most of your cells do their own healing, lest they forget how to do it."
Nathan smiled slightly as he pushed a colourless vial into a hypospray. "General analgesic, should help with the smarting." Gently, he tilted her head back a little so he could press it against her skin and release the medication into her bloodstream. "Come back if it keeps bothering you, but for now you're good to go ma'am."

Being on the outside almost seemed like a new feeling. Sickbay always seemed like a prison to Valad, though he would never say that to Nathan. Being chipper was key in that respect. Valad was thankful for the brief visit from Commander Jackson, who in turn went to speak with the doctor on her own accord. But now, free he was, to a certain degree. Doctor van Breughel had limited him to light duty for a while, which he would find every way to shirk and avoid that order, as long as he knew the doctor wouldn't find out. In any case, he was out and it was time to get back to work.
Valad made a quick stop by his quarters to sneak on a uniform so it would appear as though he as doing something. His next stop was the ops office, where he read all the reports that were submitted while he was out of commission. Things were at least running smoothly. With that knowledge, he went to the bridge and then to the Commodore's Ready Room. Upon gaining clearance, he entered and began to report.
"Well, how to begin.... Things were running pretty smoothly, and after the second try we successfully gained the codes we were going after. We were on our way back when we got caught in the middle of some firefight that was not provoked by anyone of our crew. We got out, but were followed and I was cut off from the group." Valad paused and breathed in before continuing. "It was then that I engaged myself in a cataclysmic sword fight that left me skewered to the wall like a Thanksgiving Turkey." Pausing for dramatic effect, he said, "Then apparently I was beamed out and the rest is probably in someone else's report."
(Savot)
After allowing the Commodore a chance to respond, he said, "The Doctor has ordered light duty, but given the current situation, I am ready to return to work."

With true officer behavior, upon landing Commander Jackson despite her wounds stood firm to give the Away Team report to Savot and gave Garrett leave to go to sickbay to check on Tavik's condition. Impressed but not surprised at her dedication to duty, the vulcan captain was nonetheless about to order her to sickbay as well when she said that was her destination and she'd fill him in on the way there. So Savot fell in step with his First Officer and listened to her rundown of the Lambda 4 debacle.
"Quite an improbable turn of events having those particular counterparts of our Away Team members present at that exact location indeed. But given that even my double was unaware they would be joining our crew until just prior to our crossover I find it unlikely there was foul play at work, merely a very unfortunate set of coincidences", Savot replied to her summary.
As they neared sickbay he continued, "And yet your team still managed to fulfill their objective with zero casualties, exemplary work Commander and please pass that along to the other team members when the opportunity presents itself. I agree that we must enact the next phase with haste before our intel becomes obsolete or advance warning reaches the Penance of our approach; I shall see you on the bridge."
As Jackson entered sickbay, Roberts' voice came through Savot's commbadge, =^= Roberts to Savot, all tactical systems are operational, as well all sensor systems. Security personnel are on standby, awaiting further orders sir.=^=
The vulcan tapped the badge in response, =^=Acknowledged Mr. Roberts. Our team was successful in acquiring the temporal shield frequencies we will need to pass into the asteroid where the Penance is under construction. Engineering will make the necessary shield modifications, but I also need you to use the frequency data to prepare a torpedo that will serve as our last resort should we fail to destroy the Penance from within.=^=
=^=Just as the correct frequencies will allow our ship to pass into their time field safely, so too will the exact opposing frequencies destabilize their time field if we delivered them while inside the field. We must reprogram the anti-matter yield of a torpedo to detonate at the opposite temporal frequency from the one our Away Team retrieved, and if my team is unsuccessful aboard the Penance the El Salvador will fire said torpedo to destabilize the time field thereby tearing apart everything within from the stress of the rapid time change. Naturally we'll avoid needing to use this, but our orders are the Penance's destruction at any cost. I'll have a member of the Away Team meet you with the frequencies in the Armory for torpedo modification, Savot out,=^= the captain tapped his badge at the end of the dialogue and proceeded to return to the bridge.
************************************************* [30 minutes later]
Having heard from Delbridge that the shield mods could be made en route, Savot wasted no time in beginning their journey to the Penance's asteroid shipyard. Helm indicated that from the system they'd been keeping a low profile in it would take 6.2 hours to reach the asteroid. Delbridge had told his friend that would be plenty of time so the course was laid in and engaged.
A few minutes into making a last shipwide review of all system readiness in his Ready Room, Savot acknowledged the door chime which opened to reveal a much-improved Commander Tavik. Savot gestured to the chair opposite the desk from himself for the Ops chief to sit as he made his report. He didn't interrupt, though an eyebrow did raise at the description of his swordfight as Savot was unaware that affixing the turkey to the wall via a bladed implement was part of the traditional Thanksgiving practice... but then again it wasn't practiced on Vulcan so his knowledge could be lacking in that area and for the moment his own curiosity took second place to the needs of the mission.
"I'm pleased you 'lived to tell the tale' as it were Mr. Tavik", Savot replied with a slight bow of his head.
Tavik then said, "The Doctor has ordered light duty, but given the current situation, I am ready to return to work."
Savot nodded, "Indeed, though if light duty is the doctor's order light duty it will be Commander. Meet Commander Roberts in the armory with the temporal frequency data you retrieved and assist him in preparing a torpedo to destabilize the time field within the asteroid as a last resort should our infiltration team fail in its objective."
After the response, if any, from Tavik the vulcan dismissed the Commander to go meet up with Roberts.
(Apologies for the long delay, have had trouble wrapping my head around posting recently but things should be back to normal from here on. Thanks for your patience.)

"Ah Megan, I was just about to call on you.." Nathan smiled good-naturedly as his 'favourite' commander walked into sickbay.
Commander Garrett cast him what could be classified as a glare. "I was coming to see Commander Tavik." Her expression softened a little, but only minutely. "And I was coming to see how you were doing."
The doctor's expression darkened a little. "I'm fine."
"Really." Garrett crossed her arms over her chest, clearly not believing him. Of course, she did know him better than anyone else on this ship but the same could be said for him.
"Yes commander, I'm fine, now please sit on that bed overthere. Everyone's undergone medical examinations. That is, everyone but you." He picked up his tricorder and snapped it open, extracting the diagnostic wand from the top. "How've you been feeling?"
Reluctantly, seeing that there was no way out of this, Garrett sat on the bed but she remained tense. "Fine," she replied, echoing his own words.
"Doesn't look like it," Nathan replied, while reaching for a hypospray. "As usual, you've been overdoing yourself and haven't taken the rest as I've told you multiple times now, you should take. Really commander, there is a reason I tell you to remain off duty sometimes. And, as I'm sure, your sister has been telling you the same."
Megan looked about to argue that she was fine and didn't need the rest when Nathan pressed the hypospray against her arm. "You will rest this time," Nathan explained, "this will keep you asleep for a minimum of four hours. Additionally you are to remain off duty until we reach Starbase. You are overworked and on top of that you have contracted the alternate version of the Rigellian flu. As of now, you are quarantined commander."
This time, the science officer positively glared at him as he eased her down on the bed and stepped back. "Computer, level ten forcefield, quarantine measures." The forcefield snapped into place. "Remove command codes from Commander Megan Garrett, to be reinstated by Chief Medical Officer, or Commanding Officer only."
=^=Confirmed=^= the computer replied.
"Sleep well commander, I'll check in on you later. I have to go through decon now, though that won't take long." As he transported himself to decon and rematerialised and delivered himself into the hands of the EMH, he tapped his combadge. "Captain, I have quarantined Commander Garrett, she has contracted a mirror variant of the Rigellian flu and I will need to devise a cure as regular vaccines don't work. I'm putting myself through decon as we speak, I'll keep you posted sir. Oh...and I've removed her command codes, she's known to slip from sickbay sir. Kindly reaffirm my orders for her to remain put so she won't try anything?"

“You shouldn’t have that in here Doctor.” Stacey said as she pointed to the glass with scotch in his hand. “If your called in your on duty.. meaning this is now confiscated.” She playfully chided as she took the glass.
Drinking the contents of the glass with one gulp she raised an eyebrow. “Fair.” She said as she handed back the empty glass. Taking a deep breath she said. “Nothing like good old fashioned medicine ..And now I’m ready for duty.. thank you for the help Doctor.”
She looked to the crewman who had brought her a fresh uniform top and she gave a nod as she took it off of him. “Thank you.” She added as she pulled it on taking care to not overstrain her arm.
She gave a final nod to Nathan before setting off.
Normally she would have been more than ready to retire to her quarters for rest, but with Savot still undeterred from undertaking the next portion of the mission and Commander Garrett confined to sickbay her presence in the bridge was necessary. If only to be there to stop ill thought out plans of rushing in to save the Captain from impossible odds should things go wrong. Starfleet had made it clear the Penance was to be destroyed no matter the cost.
She stepped on the bridge just in time to hear Nathan report over the comm. to Savot that he had removed Garretts command codes. She waited for Savot to reply and close the comm. before she herself added.
“Captain, the same will need to be done with yours before you leave.. upon your no doubt triumphant return and proof you aren’t your double in cunning disguise they shall be restored.”
<Tag Savot>
“And you’d best be quick lest the power go to my head Captain.. And I start measuring your ready room for curtains.” She added coyly.. “And don’t worry about us while your gone.. we’ll keep ourselves amused.. maybe go out for ice cream.”
<Tag Savot>
She took her seat and let out a deep breath not feeling anywhere near as calm as she appeared.

[El Salvador Bridge: ETA 6 hours to Penance asteroid]
Some time after Tavik left to work with Roberts on prepping the temporal destabilization torpedo as a last resort if Savot's strike team failed in their objective, the new doctor commed with an update on Commander Garrett's status, =^=Captain, I have quarantined Commander Garrett, she has contracted a mirror variant of the Rigellian flu and I will need to devise a cure as regular vaccines don't work. I'm putting myself through decon as we speak, I'll keep you posted sir. Oh...and I've removed her command codes, she's known to slip from sickbay sir. Kindly reaffirm my orders for her to remain put so she won't try anything?=^=
Savot tapped his badge to reply, =^=Acknowledged and confirmed Doctor. Commander Garrett is hereby ordered to remain in sickbay until such time as she receives your medical clearance to leave. I'm also dispatching security personnel to guard sickbay as it's conceivable that our shields could falter while facing the Penance and boarders could use that opportunity to board the ship. They will remain out of your way and are solely present to protect your staff and patients, Savot out.=^=
Commander Jackson returned to the bridge in the middle of the exchange to add her own notice regarding command codes, “Captain, the same will need to be done with yours before you leave.. upon your no doubt triumphant return and proof you aren’t your double in cunning disguise they shall be restored.”
The vulcan nodded immediately not only in agreement but in satisfaction at having a First Officer who remained capable even after a harrowing Away Team assignment, "Quite right Commander; and I shall endeavor to both triumph and return." It was a given that he wouldn't be coming back if he failed, but even succeeding in destroying the Penance didn't guarantee the infiltration team's safe return.
“And you’d best be quick lest the power go to my head Captain.. And I start measuring your ready room for curtains”, She added coyly.. “And don’t worry about us while your gone.. we’ll keep ourselves amused.. maybe go out for ice cream.”
Savot paused a moment, considering an attempt to respond in kind... something about space being cold... but in the end decided to play to his strengths rather than take the plunge just now, "Rest assured we will stay only as long as is necessary to complete the mission. I must prepare for the infiltration; the bridge is yours Commander."
The vulcan captain gave what may or may not have succeeded in looking like a reassuring nod to his First Officer then stepped into the turbolift to make a brief stop at his quarters to change and see if Delbridge had gotten young Yarna settled there all right.
(I plan to do one more post that takes us right up to reaching the asteroid, and after that it's plunge right into the action. Any crew who haven't already done so please report in the roll call thread. Roberts, you can post working on the torpedo as mention in my previous post before this one, or just say you got it done after a suitable amount of time. If Mr. Tavik wishes to participate in the programming he can backpost any details he wishes to add.)

Before going placatly with Delbridge, however, Yarna literally pulled the man along, across several decks until they finally reached what appeared to be a small laboratory, hidden away in the bowels of the ship. Freddy van Breughel had told her about this little space, and he'd heard it from his own dad again. Some junior officer had found the room abandoned and unused, and had claimed it for himself, placing several bassins in the room across several levels.
The half-Romulan child glowed as she pulled the captain's best friend inside. "We're going to find Isabelle," she stated firmly as she cast the man her sweetest smile. "Come on Mister Delbridge, we have to find Isabelle...poor Alfred is so alone in that tank.."
As the pair entered the lab, Crewman Salai Albertson looked up in surprise. "Come to admire my fish?" he asked as he rose from behind his desk, gesturing towards the bassins and tanks that took up the small room. "Who's Isabelle, my dear little one?"
Yarna glared at him for the endearment he hadn't earned the right to use. "I'm not little," she all but snapped back, "I'm six years old." Yet she stood on the tip of her toes, peering over the edge of a bassin. "I want a girl goldfish," she stated, peering up at what looked to her as a Vulcan, but he didn't 'feel' as one. "You're not Vulcan," she stated bluntly, as Delbridge lifted her up to get a better look at the fish inside the bassin.
Salai blinked slowly, tilting his head in surprise. "No," he replied quietly, though a small smile played around his lips. "Like you, I'm half Romulan." He picked up a little fishnet, then walked over and caught one of the bright orange fish in the bassin, inspecting it with his tricorder for a moment. "This appears to be a female fish," he stated, handing the net to the little girl, "does this meet your requirements? For who is the fish intended?"
"Why...the captain," Yarna smirked, "and she'll do. Now Albert will have his friend, won't he Mister Delbridge?" The Commander merely smiled, casting the crewman a knowing smile.
Salai transferred the goldfish to a plastic bag filled with water and a little greenery, then handed it to the girl. "Don't tell him where you got it from," he whispered conspirationally, "it's our little secret isn't it?"
"Oh yes!" Yarna happily left the little room, this time meekly following the commander to the captain's quarters. They had just deposited the little fish into the tank when the captain came in. Quickly, Yarna hid the remains of the plastic bag behind her back. "Greetigs captain," she smiled, this time making no move to hug him.

Delbridge followed the young girl to the impromptu aquarium lab, chuckling to himself as soon as he saw what it was and he knew what Yarna was up to. This one was clearly hard to sidetrack once she got an idea in her head, but Delbridge couldn't fault her since Alfred himself was given to Savot without the vulcan's advanced knowledge. At least in this instance Savot had heard Yarna mention getting a girl fish once already so he wouldn't be taken totally by surprise, not that the vulcan captain wouldn't have been able to handle it regardless.
Even as he picked her up to sit her atop his left shoulder so she could see the tanks better, Delbridge silently commended Yarna for her handling of the situation. She knew exactly what she was looking for, and soon enough the pair departed after Salai's good-natured assistance, for which Delbridge gave him a grateful nod before the doors closed again and he escorted Yarna to the captain's quarters where she wasted no time in introducing the two goldfish to each other.
***********************************************
Savot traveled to his quarters feeling more at ease than when the Away team had first returned to the ship. There were still innumerable things that could go wrong with his aspect of the mission, but he was reassured by Commander Jackson's ability to stay on top of things and knew at the very least he needn't worry about the El Salvador during his absence. As he approached his door it opened automatically, which told him Delbridge and Yarna had already arrived.
Upon entering the young girl greeted him right away with noticeable enthusiasm whereas Delbridge said nothing but offered a nod of greeting as he smiled. "Greetings Lady Yarna. Welcome to my quarters. I apologize for not being able to personally keep you company but I hope the hospitality of my quarters will suffice until my return. I greatly appreciate your willingness to watch over Alfred in my absence", Savot spoke, walking forward to look at said fish and noticing one more fish than he'd expected.
An eyebrow arched as he tilted his head in Delbridge's direction inquisitively with that expression that approached amusement without being entirely un-vulcan. Delbridge didn't miss a beat however and simply replied, "That's Isabelle", his tone of voice sounding as though Savot had asked what a chair was or something equally obvious.
"Indeed. I can rest assured then that Alfred will not be lonely during my absence either", Savot replied with a bow of his tilted head which he turned towards the little girl, "Thank you Miss Yarna. You accomplish a mission faster than many officers I've worked with; I commend your work ethic." He finished with a firm nod to his young friend and leaned forward slightly to observe the pair of fish interacting before nodding in satisfaction that the arrangement seemed to be working out fine so far.
The vulcan captain then passed through the open archway to the right of the main room and began to discard the overshirt of his uniform leaving the closer fitting command-red undershirt on. For appropriateness' sake he stepped behind a divider to swap out his uniform pants for more utilitarian charcoal colored ones that, while not form fitting, were more conducive to the small energy-dampening armor plates he and the rest of the infiltration team would be donning for their mission.
His ranking pips were removed next and placed on the nightstand by his bed, and he attached a wristband communicator around his left wrist. He'd keep his standard commbadge on until just before the team left the El Salvador, but during the infiltration the other unit would better serve his needs.
Savot came back into the main room, entering a keycode into the padd built into the surface of his work desk which unlocked the bottom right drawer of said desk. Inside, he procured a project he'd been working on for a bit. During a recent mission escorting the entity known as Armus to the Gamma Quadrant, pirates had boarded the ship to try and capture it for a bounty and one of them had been carrying an older style phaser pistol of the type Starfleet was using around the time of the Genesis project.
Savot's training throughout his lifetime thus far had focussed much more intently on melee combat than ranged and as such, while he was still a decent shot, a well-trained security officer would often outshoot him. He ran the practice fire training programs on the holodeck and over time came to the realization that his aim was improved approximately 2.7 percent when using a pistol style phaser as opposed to the horizontal curved hand phaser Starfleet was currently utilizing.
Therefore, when the pirate's pistol was seized following their unsuccessful attempt to kidnap Armus, Savot had spent some of his off-duty hours upgrading it so that while it still outwardly looked like the old-style pistol its internal workings were akin to current phaser technology so it was still viable on the battlefield. It had tested as fully operational so now was as good a time as any to try it in the field, and he attached it to his right hip as he closed the drawer.
"Is Engineering fully prepared Mr. Delbridge? Temporal shielding frequencies successfully implemented?", Savot asked his old friend.
The human grinned, but his eyes remained serious, "Of course teach; I finished my homework before going out to play."
Savot bowed his head in thanks before moving to Yarna and dropping to one knee to speak to her, "We have an important mission ahead of us, and there is danger involved but I promise we will keep you safe and when we're done I'll return you to your mother immediately. I thank you again for your help here; I'll be able to perform my duties much more easily knowing that Alfred, and Isabelle, are in the hands of someone I trust."
Remembering the first time they met, and knowing that with the battle ahead of them the situation would be frightening even to full grown non-empathic adults, Savot extended his right hand slightly for Yarna to grasp for a moment if she wished. There wasn't anything he'd be able to do for her during the battle besides completing his mission as quickly as possible, but maybe he could provide some preemptive calm that she could access later if she were scared.

=^= Roberts to Savot, all tactical systems are operational, as well all sensor systems.
Engineering will make the necessary shield modifications, but I also need you to use the frequency data to prepare a torpedo that will serve as our last resort should we fail to destroy the Penance from within.=^=
=^= Understood sir =^=
It was a reasonably simple procedure to carry out, but a dangerous one non the less. Messing about with the war head, with any form of torpedo was never without it's risks. Leaving the bridge John tapped his comm badge to summon Lt. Foster, a member of the tactical team who specialized in heavy weapons and, so John hoped, Torpedo modifications. It was an area he himself was a little rusty on, he hadn't used this skill since being taught in his academy days, and now the lives of the crew would be in his hands, so there was no room for any error.
Arriving in the torpedo bay, Foster was already there, and as John instructed, had taken out 4 of the Quantum torpedoes, even though the original plan was only to prepare one. still, they had six hours, and at least they could ensure the destruction of the penance by using several torpedoes.
John and Foster began by removing the outer shell of the torpedo, to reveal the The warhead itself, which comprises pf a zero-point field reaction chamber, which is formed from a teardrop shaped crystal of rodinium ditellenite jacketed with synthetic Neutronium and Dilithium. A zero-point initiator is attached to this; the initiator is made of an EM rectifier, a wave guide bundle, a subspace field amplifier, and a continuum distortion emitter. The emitter creates the actual pinch field from a conical spike 10-16 meters across at the tip. The part they where needing to fiddle with was the wave guide bundle and field amplifier. By altering the frequencies, in theory it should allow it to pass through the temporal shielding of the Penance. However, that was just a theory, Temporal shielding had only been seen once before, and that vessel was only defeated when the shields had been taken down. Foster continued to remove each war head casing, while John made the alterations needed, then between the two officers rebuilt each torpedo and replaced them back where they would be needed. Over all, this took about 3 hours, quite a slow time, but because of how important it was, John figured the extra time was needed.
=^= Roberts to Savot, the modifications are complete to four torpedoes, I figured a bit of extra fire power may not be such a bad thing if we want to ensure the Penance is obliterated, Hopefully it will not come to that, how long until we depart for the Penance Captain? =^=

Savot received word from Roberts that the torpedo modifications had been completed, as well as a little extra insurance, well within the estimated time the vulcan captain had calculated it would take, =^=Acknowledged Commander; exemplary work. We will enter the hollow asteroid in approximately 1.3 hours; equip yourself for an extreme tactical encounter. We will scan the Penance upon entering the asteroid and if her shields are lowered we'll beam directly aboard but if not we will have to beam onto the construction dock and enter the ship through one of the umbilicals. Rendezvous with myself and the other Savot in Transporter room 2 in 1 hour, Savot out.=^=
Savot had by now attached the energy dampening armor plates to his infiltration suit and had his modified phaser pistol slid into a plate on his right thigh. The armor would essentially refract energy that struck it, allowing the wearer to withstand 2 perhaps 3 stun-strength blasts before going unconscious. It would still be more luck than anything else; however, to survive a direct full power blast but still it was better than nothing.
His counterpart would be similarly garbed, but no weapons would be allowed him until the team left the El Salvador given his less than trustworthy persona and Savot agreed with the precaution entirely. As the time counted down, he returned to the bridge temporarily where the stretched pinpricks of stars rushed toward and around the main viewscreen and Commander Jackson held the bridge. Savot moved up to stand near her before tilting his chin upward slightly to speak, "Computer, initiate temporary deactivation of Captain's command codes to be restored only on the command of First Officer Jackson and Chief Security Officer Roberts effective immediately."
Turning to Jackson, Savot bowed his head slightly, "The ship is yours Commander. I will signal you via subdermal transmitter upon completion of our mission. One signal will indicate our readiness for retrieval, while the other will indicate we are unable to reach an accessible egress point in which case your priority is to get the El Salvador to safety and back to our universe." Though he knew Jackson wasn't callous Savot knew he could count on her to do exactly that without him having to argue the point. After the hopefully temporary goodbye, he departed the bridge once more via turbolift to meet the others in the transporter room.
*************************************************** [Penance asteroid 1.2 hours later]
As the Prometheus class ship dropped out of warp, the asteroid wasn't easy to miss as it was the only one whose size would leave enough room to house the construction yard needed to build the behemoth vessel. Delbridge signaled the bridge that the temporal shielding was stable and ready to go and now all that was left was to take the plunge...

John took a deep breath, Foster had already departed to resume his normal duties, leaving John now stood alone with his thoughts. Every mission carries it's danger, that merely part of the job, however, this was one where there was a 50/50 chance, as it stood any way, that he wouldn't return from. He was rarely envious of Vulcans being able to suppress their feelings, but on this instance, he couldn't help feel a slight tinge of envy.
As he left, and headed for his quarters, where he had instructed one of the security team to have tactical armour dropped off, his mind still raced with worst case scenarios and that feeling of impending doom. However, he knew there was still a job to do, and that needed focus. The two Savots would be relying on him to do his job, and not allow fear to control him. As one of his old instructors from the Academy once said: “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.” It had made a great deal of sense, Courage is simply being afraid but acting anyway.
Putting on the tactical armour served as a distraction, ensuring that the energy dampening armour was correctly fitted. However, the half an hour he spent doing so, seemed to fly by quickly, and now he had to go and collect his choice of weaponry before meeting the two Savots in transporter room 2.
Wandering around the armoury, John carefully studied each option, settling on a Type-IIIc Phaser Rifle, as well as several Type 2 phasers. One within easy reach on his thigh, and the other strapped around his ankle. For a short time he considered the option of taking a isomagnetic-disintegrator, but then, there would be little point, as most combat would be close quarters. He left the armoury, carrying the Type IIIc Phaser Rifle, 2 standard type 2 phasers, as well as a KaBar combat knife for any Melee combat or when clean, quiet kill was needed. Leaving the Armoury, John headed to the bridge.
Once there, he checked each tactical system was still operational, of course it was, it never failed, still, it was always good to enter battle, knowing that the tools you have, will do the job intended. He watched the view screen, as the El Sal dropped out of warp, and the asteroid appeared on the screen, it looked like any other, yet it housed a beast that threatened the stability of not one, but quite possibly two universes.
Savot began to speak with Commander Jackson, then, as he began to leave the bridge, John patted the security console, and followed behind. Once more, into the breech, he thought to himself, as the turbolift doors swallowed the officers within.

Savot and Roberts took the lift to the transporter room where Mirror Savot was already waiting with his 4 security escorts. At the sight of the captain they gave M-Savot the forearm weapon he'd been wearing when Savot had first seen him from inside a prison cell. The captain recalled that the thin black rectangle unfolded into a forearm-mounted crossbow of sorts but was certain it was capable of even more. Savot dismissed the security team and the infiltration trio waited just off of the transporter pad for confirmation that they'd entered the asteroid successfully.
The transporter chief eyed her instrumentation carefully awaiting the green light from the bridge, but after a few moments everyone could tell they'd entered the time dilation field inside the asteroid. The temporal shielding the El Salvador had activated worked well, but even so going from standard time into an environment where time moved more than twice as fast by comparison was likely to give most people a momentary feeling of dizzy queasiness. But, with arguably the easiest step of the plan behind them, it was time to go to work.
The 3 men stepped onto the transporter pad and drew weapons, each of them forming the point of a tactical triangle and both Savots were crouched to render themselves as small a target as possible for whatever resistance they beamed into the middle of...
(Roberts, leaving the entry point up to you. Have whatever tactical npc you'd have left on the bridge in your stead scan the Penance to see if the shields are up, if not we can beam aboard the ship itself unless there's interference from the construction. If the Penance's shields are up then we'll beam onto the shipyard connected to it and run aboard manually through their airlock. Entirely up to you which one we go with; and feel free to write the beginnings of combat with whatever forces we encounter first. My thinking was that they'd have Jem'Hadar onboard, but in stasis so they wouldn't go through a lot of ketracel white. So for the first few minutes we wouldn't have to deal with them until they were awakened. Any other guards/troops are up to you so long as it'd make sense for the remnants of the Klingon/Cardassian alliance to use them)

(In part a JP with our dearest Dr. van Breughel)
Valad sat at the desk in his personal living quarters. Having been restricted to "light duty" by Dr. van Breughel, which basically meant he couldn't do anything too taxing, he was doing all he could to keep up with ship functions and what he could find out about the mission at hand, which unfortunately was very little. He had connected to all ship functions from his personal computer, which in and of itself was a fairly incredible feat and had a direct line of information coming from one of his ops officers. Unfortunately, it was not enough. It was hard, sitting on the sidelines, while everyone else was off in their respective departments doing what they do best. Valad was going crazy. So he decided to do something about it.
The doors to sickbay separated to reveal a restless Valad. He took a deep breath, in order to calm himself for what he was about to try to do, and took the step inward. He stood inside the door for a few moments.
"The door won't close unless you make up your mind and step inside, or outside commander," Nathan offered good-naturedly, while rearranging the contents of one of the medical trays to his liking.
"Oh ha ha," Valad said, cocking his head to the side. "Okay, I can't deal with this anymore. This whole light duty thing is killing me."
You look very much alive to me commander," Nathan retorted, tone and expresson unchanging, "how is this killing you, when limited duty is actually helping you heal?"
"Really? Nathan, really?" Valad knew his friend had to be messing with him. "I need to be on the bridge, and you know it. I mean, let's really think about this one, what could happen on the bridge that would be so harmful to me?"
"Quite a lot actually," Nathan repied, sobering a little. "And the trigger could be minor too. A wrong move this or that way, a misstep. And getting glued to that console of yours and just working too hard. Trust me, I've been there commander."
"Yes and it's possible I could be shot walking out of my quarters," Valad countered with an old phrase. "At least if I'm on the bridge I can be doing something."
"You were never prohibited from going to the bridge commander, you are only prohibited from performing strenuous tasks."
Valad stopped thinking, obviously in shock at the Doctor's definition of light duty. "Well….alright then. I'll be on the bridge."
"Not so fast commander..." Nathan gestured towards the vacant biobed. "While you're here, let me make sure you're still doing well. I don't want you to relapse. Trust me, I've been there too." All too recently in fact, after he had believed he had killed Jayden. It was still rough on him even though now he knew that the Jayden he had shot, had been his husband's mirror counterpart.
Valad had already turned and was heading out the door. He stopped and hung his head, disappointed. Walking over to the bed indicated by Nathan, he hopped up and slumped down, showing off his horrible posture.
"Relax commander, I don't bite." Nathan flipped open his tricorder and slowly ran it across Valad's body, hovering where he had been impaled on the sword. "Do any of your injuries still bother you?" he asked, gazing directly at the commander, "don't lie to me, I'll know if you lie to me, and it'll hurt your chances at full duty if you do."
"Well it's still tender, if that's what your asking, but it hasn't been bothering me otherwise." It was the truth, though it had only been a day since they had gotten back.
Nathan nodded, appearing to be in thought as he studied the readings, before snapping the tricorder shut. "I'll clear you for duty, on one condition commander.."
Valad sighed. "Always a catch....alright, what is it?"
"Report back as soon as this becomes more than a little tender. I mean it commander. If you don't, I'll haul your [word deleted] back in here before you can go beg and please. Try me."
"Fine, fine. I promise." Valad would wait until it became a true annoyance before he came down, but he would come down nevertheless. "Anything else, Doc?"
No commander, there's nothing else. You're free to go sir." He had kept the conversation formal at all times.
Valad got up, wondering why the Doctor was being all official. He gave his thanks and took his leave.
Having put on a uniform, which he had not worn in over a day, Valad felt rather refreshed, though ecstatic would more likely be a better term for his emotion. He quickly prepared for the bridge and with what little he knew about the mission status, he made his way to the bridge. The travel time was minimal, and before he really realized it, he was on the bridge. Commander Jackson, it appeared, was in command, which could only mean that the next phase of the mission had begun and his commanding officer was not onboard the ship.
Approaching Jackson, he said, "I'm back and ready to go. What have I missed?"

Now that his shift was finally over, it was time to go home. His patients were settled and the two that had mattered, had returned to duty. That left only Megan and she was safe in quarantine, closely watched by a rotation of nurses who would call him if there was any change in her condition. The sooner they got to a starbase, the better Nathan reasoned as he took a last look at his comatose patient. He wasn't equipped to treat her, he did the best he could but ultimately a starbase sickbay just had better facilities.
Sighing to himself, he pulled off his coat, fished the hypospray and two vials he always carried from one of the pockets and hung it on a peg on his way out. It had been a long day and the doctor yawned as he walked home. He blinked in surprise as he suddenly felt strong hands upon his arms. "Sir?" he querried, eyes coming back into focus.
"You nearly walked into a wall doctor...you should watch where you're going really..." The crewman smiled brightly, releasing the doctor's arms, watching as the man tried to stiffle a yawn. "Ah that time of day doc? Just be careful..."
"Uhm..." Nathan merely nodded, realising that walking and yawning probably wasn't such a good idea. "Thank you," he added, before continuing his way. He arrived home safe and disappeared into the bathroom before seating himself at the table.
Jayden had prepared dinner for him, having long since eaten himself. "The children are still awake, I've kept them up for you," he explained, motioning for the little girl in the playpen and the older boy leaning over to hand her one toy or the other. With an amused smile, he watched his mate eat and study their children. He regretted not being home much lately, and vowed he would make more time, rearrange his schedule to do it. Quietly, he kissed the man's cheek. "Now that you're here, i'll go take a shower myself."
Nathan looked up, smiling before finishing off his dinner. "Take your time, I'll just sit with them for a bit before putting them to bed. Freddy'll want his bedtime story, and Angel'll just fall asleep regardless." Truth was, the little girl was an easy sleeper, not needing much before falling asleep. And, fortunately for both of them, had slept through the night since she was a few months old.
"Daddy!" the girl cried as soon as she spotted him, drawing herself up on her little legs, arms stretched out. As soon as he'd risen, Freddy had flown at him, knowing not to disturb when his father was eating. He picked up his daughter and hugged his son to him, a look of joy on his face. He was truly at ease now, being home with his family, his troubles forgotten for a little while...

The part of the mission that was by far the easiest had gone well, there was nothing to say that the 3 of them had been discovered on internal sensors. Walking over to a computer terminal, he checked where exactly within the penance they had been beamed too, having had a few problems with interference from construction. "Engineering is a few decks up, sir." John spoke quietly. It was now the hard part began, getting to and from this point without detection, or at least avoid as much contact as possible. There where no Jeffreys tubes near by, so the only other option, was either attempting a site to site transport, or walking through the ship, taking out any resistance as quickly, quietly and as efficiently as possible.
Leaving the cargo bay in which they had beamed into just minutes before, they began to head slowly up two decks to Engineering. John took point with his tricorder out, and his other hand on his phaser, ready to draw it should it be needed. The corridors seemed to drag on for miles, deserted, having passed 3 junctions, there was no sign of any guards or even engineering crews still doing work on the ship. "This way" John whispered pointing round a corner, before stopping dead and quickly jumping back behind the wall. "2 Klingon guards at the turbolift, MS (Mirror Savot) you take point, the Captain and myself will cover you" John spoke, unsure if he had been out of turn or not.

"This way", John whispered pointing round a corner, before stopping dead and quickly jumping back behind the wall, "2 Klingon guards at the turbolift, MS (Mirror Savot) you take point, the Captain and myself will cover you." Roberts seemed to hesitate as though wondering if he'd overstepped his bounds by giving the order, but Savot merely nodded his agreement and the assassin moved to deal with the guards.
As MS crept closer and closer the the Klingons, John felt uneasy, they where allowing him to get awfully close, and by now he should have taken the two Klingon officers down. Each moment that passed felt a lifetime, as he crept closer and closer his feet landing soundlessly as he moved directly behind the pair. Breath hissed through his teeth to get their attention as he crouched towards the deck.
By now the Penance's sensors had detected the El Salvador's presence within the asteroid and so the guards' weapons were unslung and at the ready. But as they turned to face the source of the hiss, the assassin Savot stood once more, each of his elbows intercepting the disruptor rifles held by each Klingon and sending their shots wide into the corridor walls. Even as the blasts struck, Mirror Savot's arms continued extending upward to place his hands on each guard's head... and albeit with significant effort due to Klingons' reinforced biology, the deadly Tal-shaya technique broke both their necks at once.
In the mere seconds it took the Klingons to drop, John and Savot moved quickly into the turbo lift, joined a few seconds later by Savot's mirror counterpart. The vulcan captain manually input Engineering as their destination as he spoke to his two companions, "We will plant charges on the warp core in Main Engineering with anti-tampering fuses; then proceed to the bridge where my counterpart will use my former First Officer command codes, still contained within the stolen computer core data used to run this vessel, to initiate the auto-destruct. I will then use my Flag rank command codes to assume command thereby rendering myself capable of confirming Mirror Savot's auto-destruct command."
The assassin had his arms crossed over his chest, "After the effort used to create this vessel they won't allow anyone but their top technicians to examine the explosives we plant, which should provide us the time needed to perform our work on the bridge. And should something go wrong with the command code strategy, we will still be able to remotely detonate the explosives on their warp core ensuring Penance's destruction." He pursed his lips as he considered the plan, nodding a moment later in apparent agreement, "Predictable logic, but sound. I'll follow your lead."
************************************************** [Penance: Engineering]
The turbolift deposited the trio on the Engineering deck, which was half again as large as the El Salvador's to accommodate the Penance's much larger power demands. At first they met with only technicians guarded by a few Cardassians to safeguard against their 'volunteers' performing any sabotage on their war vessel, but soon after they heard a General Quarters call go out over the Penance's intercom and knew they'd have company sooner rather than later.
Captain Savot dropped a guard with a well-placed though not overly difficult shot from his phaser pistol, while the assassin downed one via phaser and a second with a bolt from his forearm-mounted weapon's platform. The Mirror vulcan likewise targeted the technicians whenever possible since logic dictated that the fewer engineers they left alive... the fewer that would be available to try and disarm their explosives thereby giving the team more time to get to the bridge and set the auto-destruct.
When everyone in the immediate vicinity had been neutralized, Captain Savot worked at a console to shut down all turbolift access to Engineering and the decks immediately above and beneath it to buy them some more time to set their charges, "Commander Roberts, begin placing the charges. My counterpart and I will cover you."
The assassin added, "If we stand between the approaching security and the warp core they won't be able to risk hitting the core by firing their weapons, whereas we can fire outward at them without hindrance."
The vulcan reflections set up a defensive line to guard Roberts while the Tactical Chief began to plant the explosives. Hopefully they'd only be used to buy the team time to implement their auto-destruct plan... for if they had to detonate these charges there certainly wouldn't be time to get off the Penance before dying with everyone else aboard.
(Roberts, feel free to describe as much of the explosive setup as you want, and the team's travel to the bridge. I'll finish it off from there and start us on our way back.)

Arriving at Engineering they met with only technicians guarded by a few Cardassians to safeguard against their 'volunteers' performing any sabotage on their shiney new war vessel. This wasn't to last however, as they soon heard a General Quarters call go out over the Penance's intercom and knew they'd have company sooner rather than later.
Captain Savot dropped a guard with a well-placed, though not overly difficult shot from his phaser pistol, while the assassin downed one via phaser and a second with a bolt from his forearm-mounted weapon's platform.
John nodded, and began to take out the charges from his back pack, still listening to the two Vucans' discussion about the best course of action, once the charges had been set, and primed.
The assassin added, "If we stand between the approaching security and the warp core they won't be able to risk hitting the core by firing their weapons, whereas we can fire outward at them without hindrance."
Captain Savot and Mirror Savot set up a defensive perimeter around The warp core, to protect John while he did his job. Placing 3 charges around the bottom of the warp core, interlinking each one, so that should one be dis-armed, the others would go off. Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that. There where still another 3 charges, John thought it best to try and place them elsewhere besides the bottom of the warp core, making it harder to disarm them all, but there wasn't enough time. Security teams would be on their backs in no time, he added another 2 charges, a little further up the warp core. The one that was left, he held on to, so he could place it on the turbolift doors of the bridge, it wouldn't stop them from dis-arming the auto-destruct, but it would slow them down, hopefully enough for the trio to make their get away.
Just as John set the last charge, the cavalry arrived, Just as Savot's mirror counterpart ha said, they didn't want to risk setting off the charges with phaser fire. Staying close together, John, and the two Vulcans slowly moved to towards to turbolift, so that they could head for the bridge. Mirror Savot again manually inputted the orders, while John and Captain Savot covered him, laying down phaser fire on the security teams, and Technion's trying to move in so they could dis-arm the charges.
There would be more of a welcoming party on the bridge, all 3 of them knew it, certainly for John there was an unease, it had all been a little too easy so far.

The El Salvador remained stationary. She was hiding, as was the crew aboard her. She hid behind asteroids with her protective shields raised. The shields not only protected the ship from enemy firepower, but also allowed the El Sal to be inside the time dilation field. All about the ship, officers and crew waited. Some stared at their mostly blank consoles, not able to move. Others stood, alert to the possibility of the alert alarms to sound off. Even on the bridge, the entire bridge staff was silent. All systems, save life support and the power systems needed to support the shields, had been put on standby and shut down. They waited.
Valad sat at his appointed station, monitoring the meager power flow throughout the ship. It was as minimal as it could be, but if anyone had decided to look for them, the El Salvador would easily register on a directed scan. Valad's ops station was likely one of the only consoles on the ship that was active. Patience was something Valad hated, but now, it was more important than ever.
Outside the ship, in the little bit of open space that was inside the field, a group of small ships, about the size of fighters, patrolled the inside of the field. There were three groups of five fighters. They flew in a circular pattern. Continuously, they circled. Of one of the groups, a fighter deviated from the projected flight path. It came close to the El Sal, but did not appear to recognize its existence. It flew back to the group.
Something wasn't right. It left a bad feeling in the pit of Valad's stomach. Suddenly, as if everything had gone wrong at once, the guns of the Penance turned towards the El Sal's position. The groups of fighters turned course and flew directly at them.
"Commander...?" Valad said, knowing full well the Commander was watching the viewscreen.
(Jackson)
The El Sal, as if springing to a life of its own, seemingly sidestepped from behind the asteroid it hid behind, all systems go, and flew past the first group of fighters, who were caught unawares. The second wave was prepared. They adjusted course to intercept the El Salvador and opened fire. The barrage seemed continuous, but did little damage to the shields.
"Minimal damage recieved, Commander. The fighters' firepower is not strong enough to weaken our shields...."
Then the El Salvador shook violently, throwing the Ops Chief to the floor and everyone else backward in their seats. Valad scrambled back to the console and said, "That was a blast from their vent guns. Shields absorbed some of the blast, but a good bit went right through to the hull."
(Jackson)
The El Salvador was much smaller than the Penance and used the larger ship as a meat shield of sorts. The enemy fighters started to swarm the El Salvador again, this time taking a much larger toll on the El Salvador's shields. "Commander, the fighters are shooting again. They are still not doing much damage, but if we keep taking fire from those vent guns, we won't last very long."
(Jackson)
Remembering something he had noticed. "Did I happen to mention the vent guns rotate three hundred and sixty degrees..."
(All)
(ooc: fyi to anyone who wants to contribute to the space half of the battle, I would expect the fighters would do damage little by little, but the guns would be a bit more powerful. We have the upper hand manueverability-wise, but we'll see how long that lasts. Hopefully the away team will have a ship to beam out to...)

[Aboard the Penance] Disruptor fire pelted the back of the turbolift until the doors finally closed granting the infiltration trio temporary respite at least. From this point on no time could be spared, every action they took had to be as quick and clean as possible not only for the team to succeed in their mission... but also for them to stand a chance of getting away to enjoy their success. Before they could start to discuss their strategy upon reaching the bridge, the turbolift came to a sudden halt causing even the vulcans to sway for a moment before fully recovering their balance. However, without even registering surprise at the sudden obstacle the two reflections were in motion. Captain Savot pried open the panel beneath the main controls to engage the manual release for the turbolift doors, while the assassin stood ready to open fire should any opposition be waiting on the other side of said doors. The captain nodded to both of his companions before opening the doors to make sure they were prepared, but as the whoosh granted them freedom from the halted lift they saw no one waiting there to ambush them. The assassin looked down both sides of the corridor before fully leaving the cover of the lift, "As intended, our assault has taken them completely by suprise. They're reacting to us now, but they're still too uncoordinated to do more than impede each individual step as we take it, they're not yet thinking in 'big picture' terms or they'd have sent the turbolift to a deck where they already had a security team waiting to eliminate us." Captain Savot merely nodded his agreement with his counterpart's assessment as he hefted his modified phaser pistol and moved to access the ship's computer via the LCARs controls along the walls throughout the ship. "Our computer core programming is designed to function both as a single vessel and as the MVAM's three separate hulls. When separated each hull would need its own ability to accept command codes from the officer in charge; and in stealing our programming for the Penance, even though it is incapable of separating the core programming would still require three distinct areas within the ship that would allow command-grade computer access", the captain explained to his companions as he brought up the Penance's deck plans to determine where precisely such areas would be. Copying the data to his wrist-mounted tricorder the captain again nodded to the other two and set off at a sprint down the corridor towards this deck's transporter room where he intended to site-to-site transport the three of them into one of the other 2 locations where they could still set off the auto-destruct since the main bridge was cut off from them now. Unfortunately the enemy had enough 'big picture' thinking to have posted guards in the transporter rooms to prevent intruders from doing exactly what the Away Team was planning to do. Even as Savot began to formulate an attack strategy; however, the assassin stopped him with a hand on the shoulder indicating the captain should leave this one to him. Confirming that it was Jem'Hadar within this transporter room, Mirror Savot entered a command into the unit on his left forearm which then gave off a whine similar to a replicator. A small module near his wrist rotated to the underside of his arm as the assassin turned his hand palm-upwards, and the module gently deposited 3 small spheres into the opened hand before rotating back into place on the upper side of his left forearm. M-Savot stood next to the transporter room doors and knelt low. Tapping open the controls he leaned out just enough to hurl the 3 spheres into the room before the door was even opened all the way and just as quickly shut them closed again. Captain Savot, remembering his first encounter with his reflection and the Rigellian poison coating the dart that had nearly struck him, now knew where said poison had come from and had an idea of what was now taking place within the transporter room to the 5 Jem'Hadar within. The team seemed to just start to hear screams before all sound was again muffled; a hard thud shook the doors from the other side but they stayed shut... and a moment later it was quite literally as quiet as a tomb. Mirror Savot re-opened the doors and entered the room where the 5 guards were all dead on the ground. "Knowing Jem'Hadar would be the likely security force comprising the Penance's troops, I procured an airborne agent that instantly hardens on contact with ketracel white, even if said contact takes place within the blood stream", the assassin explained with no more feeling than someone would a mathematical equation and took his beaming position on the transporter pad. Captain Savot said nothing in response to his reflection, merely heading to the transporter controls to enter the coordinates of the room they'd have to detour to for the implementation of the auto-destruct. It took only seconds and then he nodded to Roberts and they moved to the pad as well. He'd taken the precaution of scanning their destination for lifeforms and although the sensors had said none were present, he still held his phaser at the ready just to be on the safe side. The transporter effect snatched up the trio and for a moment they existed as nothing but buffered and separate molecules... before re-coalescing in a room that looked like a mix of a battle-bridge and engineering, without a warp core obviously. This was it. Up to now Mirror Savot could have accomplished this much without his echo's assistance and that of his crew, but now came the moment that had convinced him to risk contact with that other universe to ensure the success of his mission to destroy the Penance. The Starfleet Savot wasted no time in proceeding to one of the computer terminals and activating it, "Computer, process and recognize the following Flag Rank command authorization codes." Savot input his codes via the controls and a few moments later the computer responded with the same mechanical drone of a Starfleet computer, but with a female Cardassian's voice rather than the one that had so long been used on Federation starships, =^=Flag Rank Authorization recognized; Battleship Penance now under command of Commodore Savot.=^=Savot spoke quickly, "Computer, seal off all entrances to this chamber and erect a Level 10 forcefield." The computer complied and he kept going with the mission, "Computer, activate Auto-Destruct sequence: 2.5 minute silent countdown. Destruct code: 7-7-5-Destruct-7." =^=Command code for Auto-Destruct sequence verified. Does the First Officer concur?=^=, Savot was inwardly pleased at the computer's altered voice as that made it seem less similar to actually telling the El Salvador's computer to destroy the ship. Mirror Savot; however, shared no such inner concerns either way and merely continued to carry out his portion of the mission. He'd been given the now-defunct command codes of then-Commander Savot from the time during which the programming backups had been stolen, and said programming should hopefully still have Commander Savot in its databanks as First Officer therefore granting him adequate clearance to confirm the self-destruct. M-Savot spoke even as he placed his hand on a console opposite the room from Captain Savot for fingerprint and DNA recognition, "First Officer Savot confirms. Engage Auto-Destruct sequence, 2.5 minute silent countdown. Destruct Code: 5-3-5-Destruct-Epsilon." Final confirmation always took a moment longer, as well it should, but to both Savots' internal relief the computer chimed back in response, =^=Destruct Orders verified and confirmed. This vessel will self destruct in 2 minutes, 30 seconds. There will be no further audible warning.=^=Before the computer's words had fully left their ears, Captain Savot activated the sub-dermal transmitter he'd had implanted before leaving the ship. It had been programmed with 3 potential messages to send back to the El Salvador: either mission failure, mission success awaiting pickup, or mission success... but retrieval impossible. The first of which would force the El Salvador to fall back on the torpedoes Roberts had prepped before the mission to instantly destabilize the time-field within the hollow asteroid destroying everything within; the last of which would tell the El Salvador there was no hope for the Away Team and to get out as quickly as possible to ensure their own survival. Thankfully, and somewhat surprisingly considering all the variables that could have been stacked against them, it was the middle option that Captain Savot was able to signal back to their ship. The Away Team had succeeded and were awaiting pickup if the El Salvador could manage it; but they also knew that wasn't a guarantee either considering what their ship was up against out there. Likewise, to give the El Sal the best chance to pick them up, the forcefield around the room the Away Team was in had had to be dropped. Captain Savot explained as much to his companions and recommended they all take cover before he dropped the field since their actions within the computer had almost certainly given away their position and the entirety of the Penance's guards would be descending upon them. So for at most, the next 2 minutes and 17 seconds, the Away Team would be in for one hell of a firefight. By then though, they'd either be rescued... or it wouldn't matter either way. (OOC: Okay everyone we're almost done. Roberts feel free to describe as much, if any, of the final shoot-out as you like. Only definite thing that needs to occur is Captain Savot gets injured shortly before beam-out. Jackson/Tavik, conduct the pickup in whatever way you see fit... so long as you do actually rescue us Thanks to everyone for their contributions and patience during this mission, depending on how fast these final posts get done we'll get ourselves back to our universe pretty quick)

The El Salvador jolted sideways again. “Shields at fifty-seven percent, Commander Jackson,” Valad stated loudly over sounds of the bombardment. At this point, several of the fighters had been destroyed and a couple of the rotating turrets had been damaged enough to be unable to fire. But even with all that enemy firepower gone, the El Salvador was still bombarded with more than enough to keep her busy. Rotating around to keep the fire from being concentrated in one spot, the El Salvador was able to spread the damage around the shield spread.
The tactical officer said, “Commander, firing on the third port-side turret.” The El Salvador fired its phasers in a concentrated pattern, allowing the following photon torpedos to push through and damage the turret.
Valad scanned the ship again to recount the turrets. “Four down, eight to go. And we still have eight of their fighters flying around.” Valad quickly went back over the general flight paths of the fighters and cross-referenced them with the firing patterns of the vent guns. He saw something unusual. “I have an idea. Turn to point oh five one and fire along the turret lines. Keep at three quarters impulse.”
The El Salvador moved along the starboard side of the Penance, and lightly fired on the turrets that still made sure the El Salvador could not move freely. The fighters reacted and moved to pursue, but to their misfortune, the fell in the crossfire between the vent guns and the El Salvador. The last two remaining fighters scattered, but quickly came round for a kamikaze run on the bridge. “Fire! Fire!” The phasers and torpedoes lit up the viewscreen and the fighters exploded before their eyes. The bombardment came again. “Shields down to forty-two percent.”
The tactical officer confirmed the analysis and looked bewildered. It didn’t look like there was any way they were going to get out of this one. The helmsman thought differently. “Commander Tavik,” he asked. “You said that the vent guns were fully rotational.”
Valad raised an eyebrow, not sure where the helmsman was going with it. “Yeah?”
“Well, they might be able to rotate around the top or bottom side of the ship, but they can’t fire on the opposite side. With the fighters out of the way, if we concentrate our fire on say the bottom turrets, then we could bombard the ship from the underside and be virtually safe.”
Valad thought for a split second. “That could work, set course and make it happen. Tactical, follow along.”
The El Salvador flew along the underside of the ship, where more of the targets had been destroyed. After making several passes, and losing another twelve percent of the shield strength, the underside of the Penance was devoid of operational vent guns. “Bring the ship to a halt near the forward side of the Penance. Target the power cores and prepare to fire. “ Just as he finished, the ship rocked after being hit by something. “What was that?”
“Disruptor fire,” came the reply from tactical. “Shields at twenty eight percent.”
“We can’t take much more of this. Get moving again.” Valad was worried. Things were not going well. They needed to hurry up on the ship and give the El Salvador the order.
The El Salvador moved more and more. The shield strength slowly weakened. Twenty percent…..Eighteen percent……Thirteen percent. Valad watched the numbers dwindle, not able to do anything to stop it. All the could do was wait.
Moments later, as if by a miracle, the signal came. Savot had given them the ok to pick them up at the pre designated location. “Commander, we have the signal, but we have a problem. We have to drop shields to transport them back to the ship, but as soon as we drop the shields, we will be shut out of the time dilation field. At best we’ll have a few seconds to complete the transport. And even then, we might not be able to get them.”
Jackson took a deep breath and slight shook her head. "I don't care how you do it, just make it happen Commander." She replied as she looked to the screen.
Valad nodded. “The timing has to be perfect. I’ve sent you the location of the pickup location. When we come within transport range, I’ll drop shields and transport on your mark.” It was up to the helmsman to make it perfect.
The El Salvador moved with a grace that was unusual to the current situation. “Okay, on my mark. Three….two …… one…..Now!”
Valad moved over the console in perfect unison. “I’ve got the lock. Shields dropping now!” He dropped the shields and started the transport.
Jackson spoke over the comm. “Bridge to Transporter Room One. Do we have them?” Her heart pounded for a few moments in anticipation.
(Savot/Roberts)
"Emergency medical teams to transporter room one." She closed the comm channel and looked to the helm and said. "Get us out of here, maximum warp."

Post by Savot on Apr 17, 2011 4:22:07 GMT
Captain Savot rolled towards new cover even as the column he'd been ducking behind was reduced to rubble by repeated disruptor blasts. The dust kicked up from the falling debris worked in his favor and he was almost home free behind the same table-sized workstation that his assassin counterpart had chosen for cover in the center of the room, when a concussive grenade detonated close enough to hurl him atop the table rather than behind it and in his temporary dazed state he took 3 hits. One glanced off his thigh and was mostly dissipated by his armor, a second was much the same story at his left shoulder, but at least one struck him right in the sternum region. Ironically, that most serious hit is the one that ended up propelling him off the table behind cover once again.
The Captain began to regain his senses enough to feel pain... which was quickly re-routed as it was of no benefit at present, and then through still-blurred vision he noted that his chest armor plates were melted in the center. He noted the assassin's presence right beside him still providing cover fire and he tried to look for Roberts' position but couldn't make it out before the very welcome sensation of a transporter effect gripped him...
*************************************************** [El Salvador: Transporter Room]
The Away Team materialized on the platform at which point Savot was able to confirm that Roberts was with them and seemed in fair condition. The assassin helped him to his feet just as the familiar sound of Commander Jackson's voice filled the room, =^=Bridge to Transporter Room 1. Do we have them?=^=
The transporter chief looked worriedly at the state of the captain's armor and pressed a control to respond, "Affirmative bridge, but there are injuries."
Reaffirming Savot's confidence in her abilities, Jackson responded to the situation's developments quickly and sensibly, =^=Emergency medical teams to transporter room one.=^=
Savot trudged his way to the console as swiftly as possible with his reflection's aid, "Captain to bridge, upon exiting the asteroid's time-dilation field you must reroute all available power to Aft shields and propulsion. The moment we exit we will once again be experiencing time normally, whereas time within the asteroid will still be proceeding at its accelerated rate, meaning the auto-destruct countdown's current remaining time of 47 seconds will pass almost instantly and the explosion will strike us before we have time to fully exit the blast radius."
The vulcan captain started to slump a bit from the exertion before supporting himself between the console and his counterpart, but he awaited the medical teams with confidence that the El Salvador's crew would perform to the best of their abilities and get the ship through this last hurdle on the way home.
Jackson closed the comm channel and looked to the helm and said. "Get us out of here, maximum warp."
*************************************************
Just as Savot had said, the explosion that heralded the Penance's successful self-destruction was on the El Salvador's proverbial coattails at almost the exact second the Starfleet vessel escaped the hollowed asteroid's interior. The ship was rocked heavily by the impact of the energy wave but fortunately no sizable debris from the asteroid struck the ship since they had left through the opening in its side and as such there was no rock face directly behind them for the explosion to hurl at them. For those inclined to make comparisons; however, it still felt as if the ship had been struck by a massive baseball bat from behind.
(Interested parties can assume any reasonable damages they're interested in working on, but I doubt anything drastic like having a nacelle torn off would have occurred.)
********************************************** [Mirror Universe: Crossover coordinates]
The mission was complete... and successfully at that. It certainly hadn't gone entirely according to plan and it had been as trying as expected if not moreso, but the crew was about to return to their universe having made another significantly safer.
Additionally, to the satisfaction of many, their temporary ally would be departing at this juncture, remaining behind in his proper universe. Careful testing had been conducted to ensure that no Savot switch had taken place during the Away mission, and now that his wounds were quite stabilized the Captain prepared to bid the Assassin farewell. A transport from the Vulcan resistance had arrived agreeing to return M-Savot to his personal craft and they expressed their gratitude to the El Salvador's crew for the great risk they all undertook on their behalf.
"Now we part ways, Captain, and for my part I sincerely hope I have no future need to seek your assistance", the assassin said with a dispassionate, cold tone.
The captain gave a tilted bow of his head in agreement with the sentiment, "As you will no doubt seek to remain an agent of chaos, I suspect we will have little reason to combine our efforts again."
The assassin again held his almost-amused expression, "Your respected Terrans' own philosophers agreed with me Captain. One Thomas Hobbes described a 'state of nature' in which without an overseeing force to govern their behavior beings will be in a constant state of war."
Captain Savot, who rather enjoyed philosophy, arched an eyebrow at that particular reference in light of this past mission, "If you sought a tool to enforce the obedience of others, one would think you'd have preferred to salvage the Penance rather than assist in its destruction."
"As we ourselves proved, Captain, that behemoth of a vessel was not nearly powerful enough to achieve that end", the assassin countered.
The captain's eyes narrowed slightly, "And if you find a force that is powerful enough?"
M-Savot's own brow raised as though the answer were obvious, "I would use it of course. Failing that; however, I will continue to champion the chaotic so people are ever forced to better themselves in order to survive it."
He gave his Starfleet counterpart a final nod of his head and turned to leave... but paused long enough to turn his head back slightly, "My father yet lives."
Captain Savot raised his eyebrow as the assassin boarded the Vulcan transport without another word, wondering what the intent of his last statement had been. As had been evident from the moment they met, the two vulcans were not the same man however much alike they appeared and as such no relationships would cross between them either. Any Deis Irae that may or may not exist in the Mirror Universe, for example, would have no connection to the Starfleet Savot.
Performing his moderate facial shrug, the Captain put the assassin from his mind and returned to the business of getting his ship and crew the rest of the way home...
******************************************** [Our Universe: Starbase 24]
The El Salvador, with Commander Delbridge's fine-tuning, made the universal crossover with no further difficulties and was once again in the universe to which she belonged. They had been met and escorted by a quartet of Starfleet ships assigned to Starbase 24 which had been tasked with assuring the Prometheus class starship was still in the hands of her loyal Starfleet crew. Savot understood the precautions given the ship was out of complete contact in a decidedly hostile environment for an extended period of time; and there was the obvious matter of ensuring no duplicate replacements had taken place among her crew.
But thus far everything had been found in order and all that remained was for her battle damage to be repaired and the crew who had remained aboard Starbase 24 during the mission to be re-integrated along with new personnel in the form of Commander Jamey Gaz whose name Savot recognized from his service aboard the ship years prior during Captain Irae's command. They had been without a talented helmsman for awhile now and Savot was pleased that the crew would gain the benefit of Gaz's presence.
The ship would; however, be losing the experience of First Officer Jackson as she had been awarded a command of her own following the success of her last venture among the El Salvador's crew. As he had always been in similar circumstances, Savot was most pleased for the departing officer to be receiving the opportunity they had more than earned, but regretted the El Sal's loss.
As soon as repairs were underway he himself had one last duty to attend to... that of returning young Yarna Hope to her parents aboard the U.S.S. Rainier. There was no way he could adequately apologize for the oversight that had allowed her to be overlooked during the Hope family's departure and placed at such extreme risk, but he was thankful that his young friend had come out of the ordeal no worse for wear. The vulcan would miss the girl's company, but he would be quite contented by the knowledge that she was back with her family where she belonged.
(Okay folks, apologies both for how long the mission dragged out, and for the haphazard way in which I had to bludgeon it closed. Any and all can feel free to backpost any input they wish to add from the time of the firefight aboard the Penance up to the present, but I at least wanted to get "current" so we could go ahead and get Jamey aboard and get the last round of wrap up posts in before going ahead and getting started on our next assignment. Jamey, feel free to post coming aboard in this thread, or if you'd prefer you can wait to start in the new one which I'll open up probably on Monday.)

Post by SA. Stacey Jackson [Ret] on Apr 19, 2011 21:29:35 GMT
Stacey sat in her office, leaning back in the chair. She looked around the Executive Officers Office as she took in deep breaths in a rather futile attempt to meditate. Starfleet had offered her a command, she wished she could say she was excited and raring to go but she wasn’t. Her very first instinct was to emphatically say no, she felt too old to Command a ship.
She may have only ‘claimed’ to be in her late fifties. The fact her real age was a carefully guarded secret and her career had carried her through some of the toughest times in Starfleet history she defiantly felt much older. She shrugged her shoulders being a single parent didn’t help in that factor either.
She again took in a few deep breaths, was she really going to let her age close that door? Surely others had thought of that and decided it wasn’t too outside the realm of possibility. She had on a few occasions been in sole command of El Salvador and didn’t waver in her resolve.
Would it have been any different if it was a permanent thing she wondered as she sat silently.
*** Two Days Later ***
El Salvador had eventually docked with Starbase 24, the crew had now all been tested to make sure they were not replacements from the mirror universe. Stacey had been rather solitary for the two days she didn’t much venture out of her office or quarters. The junior officers were more than capable of keeping the ship in good order, they were after all under heavy escort.
Stacey stood up from behind her desk, she had an appointment to keep and Admirals didn’t like to be kept waiting.
*** One Day Later ***
Captain Stacey Jackson again stepped on board El Salvador, it would likely be the last time for at least the foreseeable future. Her belongings had been packed kindly by someone, apparently she didn’t have long before she needed to be at Starbase 47 to greet her new crew.
Stacey stepped off of the turbolift onto the bridge, she took a deep breath as she walked through it instinct almost making her sit in the Executive Officer’s chair. She made it to the Captains ready room and stepped inside.
“Commodore.” She said she as walked inside. “I’ve been told I need to leave fairly soon, but Command was nice enough to allow me one last look around and say goodbyes.”
She stopped as she made it in front of his desk. “It was an honour serving with you sir.”
<Tag Savot>
Stacey gave a nod. “Well I should be off being late for ones own ship launch probably is not the best way to start things off.” She turned and headed for the door. Before turning her head and adding.
“Oh, I stole the chair from the Executive Officer’s office.. Tis’ too comfortable to leave behind, oh and I am stealing Lieutenant Palmer little jerk made a wise crack about recruiting Captains from retirement villages.” She gave a slight smile.
“But I did arrange a present of sorts.. I know how much fun it was for you to have one Jackson on the ship so I’m leaving you with three.. See you around the Galaxy Commodore.” She walked out of his office and made her way off the ship.
