Location: Romulan Bird of Prey Geronex: Bridge
Torel eased his neck slightly to stretch the muscles in his neck as he stared at his instruments. He and the rest of the crew had been preparing for this moment for several hours and he hoped everything was ready. He looked up and said "Status". The colonels eyes moved to each member of his bridge crew and each one silently nodded his readiness. Torel then glanced at Major Cenvil, who had done an excellent job at preparing the ship and the other things that would be required to carry this mission off. There was some tightness around the majors eyes, yet he seemed optimistic as he nodded his affirmative.
"Good." Torel said, then began to issued the commands that would begin the attack on the Federation starbase and Excalibur. "Issue the transmit command to the platform" he ordered the comm officer, then turned to navigation. "Disconnect the umbilicals and move the Geronex Z -5000 meters." The navigation officer nodded and he started entering nav commands.
"Platform operating normally. No problems apparent from sensors" Major Cenvil reported, as the Geronex moved slowly towards the surface of the third planet.
"Good" Torel replied. "Are we still in the middle of the magnetic pole of the planet?"
"Yes sir" the navigation officer replied. "With our cloak up, we should be invisible to any sensors the Federation have, and a ship would have to be very close to the platform to detect it."
I wish I were that confident, Torel thought to himself.
The Geronex reached it's destination about 5000 meters from where it started and settled in to wait.

She tapped her communicator on her desk, "Doctor Benson to Captain Ryat I have discovered a new development in this DNA situation with our chief engineering officer you may want to see this." She said then pressed it again, "Doctor Benson to Commander Zarath will you please come to my office and meet the Captain and myself it's urgent."
The Andorian would have gone and gotten his laboratory assistant, Warrant Officer First Class Zarok, if there had been more time. However, the order was specifically for something that was urgent. Therefore, he did not waste time in getting to the turbolift. Feeling the gentle push of the floor as he started to travel to the deck she was on, he furrowed his brow with a frown. Shaking his head, he looked up.
Upon entering the new room, he frowned once again in the serious manner that Andorians so often did when they were concealing their emotions. “I fully understand the gravity of any situation that requires my immediate attention. I am a bit in the dark, but I trust this something to do with Lieutenant Savin.”
Not having been made privy to any further knowledge of her tests, nor being involved in them directly despite having been the Chief scientist aboard, Zarath was unable to recommend the aforementioned Warrant Officer out of fiat. However, making a few quick connections in his mind allowed him to deduce the fact that he needed to bring up the other scientist, even if his own logic in why they needed to do so was flawed.
“I am not sure what is going on of course, but I am thinking that the most prudent course of action to bring about is for me to summon another Vulcan. My assistant, Warrant Officer Zarok, is a full Vulcan. Therefore, I believe his words would be invaluable in the commentary to come.”

Kara Benson sat quietly continuing to read over the information before her. Suddenly there was a chime at her door, "Come in please." She said and with a whoosh the doors opened revealing Commander Thalin as well as a vulcan warrant officer followed behind him closely.
“I fully understand the gravity of any situation that requires my immediate attention. I am a bit in the dark, but I trust this something to do with Lieutenant Savin.”
"Yes sir it does." She replied.
“I am not sure what is going on of course, but I am thinking that the most prudent course of action to bring about is for me to summon another Vulcan. My assistant, Warrant Officer Zarok, is a full Vulcan. Therefore, I believe his words would be invaluable in the commentary to come.”
"Yes in fact he will help." She replied then her door chimed again she smiled, "Come in please." She watched as Captain Ryat entered her office not too long after Thalin.
<Alyana>
"I called you all in here, as you may have guessed on something I have discovered with Lieutenant Savin." She sighed and brought up the DNA information, "I am unsure if this will help or not, but having proven that Savin is in fact Vulcan I think I may be able to explain a little bit as to what may have caused his outbursts. See this marker in his DNA structure, it has been altered I compared it to his structure from his entry into the academy and it is different.
"Having little knowledge of DNA I did a little research while I waited for you to arrive. This marker affects our rational thinking if it is altered it could potentially make us as beings think differently depending on a great many things. This marker in Savin's DNA has been altered in that he would lose all control over himself and make him think extremely irrationally.
"I cross referenced several strains of DNA in other Vulcans each were affected in the same way, but without this amount extremes. Therefore the beam that was fired on the ship had a greater affect on Savin then everyone else. That doesn't make sense so I went back into the crew logs as well as the mission logs. They state that Savin was in a shuttlecraft during one of the attacks. This would explain why he was greatly affected. I also checked other species' DNA strands. All tests returned normal. So I dug a little deeper because I was confused, the other species had different things affected. Humans had their brains affected for example.
"I would like to test a Romulan to see if they were affected, but I want permission from them."
She took a deep breath and paused for a moment, "Savin would have lost all control over himself and would not have been thinking in a rational manner. It is my belief that over time he will regain his rational thinking. I would recommend that after a few months to retest him to see if this is permanant."

"I would like to test a Romulan to see if they were affected, but I want permission from them."
Thalin nodded, starting to speak once again, “I would be the first to admit that we do not have a very solid understanding of the Romulan physiology, or anything much about the Romulan Star Empire at all for that matter. However, I can’t imagine they would repond much differently.”
He paused, “With that, I should probably go and get Warrant Officer Zarok, after your positive assessment of what I said about him.”
Walking off for a moment, Thalin Zarath returned to the turbolift, grateful that the condition was not as grave as he had previously thought it was. As he started to shoot up the tube, he tried to guess which laboratory Zarok would have been in. “I need to keep better track of my department,” he quipped to himself.
Fortunately, he met the Vulcan in the first workshop that he entered. Briefing him on the proceedings, he started to lead Zarok out.
“I trust, sir, that I will not be used as the pawn in any experiment?”
“It is not usual for a Vulcan to talk that way, is it?”
“I do not know what you mean, sir.”
The pair arrived once more in the room, and started to hear the recent explanation. Zarok stood in an at ease position, placing his arms behind him. Thalin, however, did not act in such a military fashion, but instead allowed himself to be relaxed in the position that he now took.
She took a deep breath and paused for a moment, "Savin would have lost all control over himself and would not have been thinking in a rational manner. It is my belief that over time he will regain his rational thinking. I would recommend that after a few months to retest him to see if this is permanent."
Before the Andorian could get a word in, Zarok started to speak up in regards to the situation. “Have you thought of running a simulation on the recreational deck? Though I spend little of my own time there, I understand the working components for the purpose of diversion. I believe they would be the most accurate devices to simulate these effects on, before anyone else is chosen.”

Gwen wandered the decks of the USS Excalibur, after having brought her son to the ship's school. It irked her that she wasn't allowed to see her husband until his trial and thought it was very unheard of. Eventually, she found herself standing right in the middle of engineering, and found herself to be unnoticed by the engineers. Unnoticed, until a tall Andorian walked up to her.
"Can I help you ma'am?"
Gwen turned, looking up at the Andorian. "Lieutenant Thelev, isn't it?" she asked quietly, "I understand you're a friend of my husband?"
Antennae swaying slightly, the Andorian studied the young woman before him. "Might be," he answered, "if I knew who your husband is?"
"Lieutenant Savin. He's the chief engineer."
Then it dawned on the poor engineer who he was dealing with. "Ahh," he exclaimed. "Yes I consider him my friend. I wonder if he still does consider me his friend, after what I had to pull on him." He shook his head. "I'm sorry ma'am, I hadn't recognised you. What can I do for you?"
Gwen shrugged. "I honestly don't know. I'm given no news whatsoever and I can't see my husband. I don't even know when his trial starts, or what is wrong with him."
Tilting his head, Thelev thought for a moment. "Have you tried speaking to Commander Zarath? He's the science whizz on this ship, he might be able to help you." The Andorian flipped open his communicator. "Commander Zarath? This is Lieutenant Thelev, in engineering. I have Mrs Savin here, and she would like to have a word when you're able. It concerns her husband."
[Zarath and anyone overhearing the conversation]
Thelev handed the communicator to the young Human woman. "Commander?" Gwen's voice sounded uncertain. "I'm very sorry if I interrupted anything but I'm referred to you for help. Can we meet?"
[Zarath and anyone overhearing the conversation]
"I'm not allowed to see my husband sir, so I don't know how he is doing. No-one is telling me anything. I would please like to meet with you, and hear from you what is wrong with him."

The Andorian flipped open his communicator. "Commander Zarath? This is Lieutenant Thelev, in engineering. I have Mrs Savin here, and she would like to have a word when you're able. Zarath sighed carefully as he opened his own communicator after hearing the tell-tale beeping signal. Sighing slowly, so that it would not be heard, he instructed Zarok to remain in place as he heard the new instructions, “I’ll be with you in just a moment, let me get over there.”
Thelev handed the communicator to the young Human woman. "Commander?" Gwen's voice sounded uncertain. "I'm very sorry if I interrupted anything but I'm referred to you for help. Can we meet?"
The Andorian furrowed his browed in his annoyed fashion. Human protocol could really become troublesome at times, “Of course I can meet with you. I have had my laboratory assistant, Mister Zarok, stand in my place here for the time being. I understand that you require my services.”
"I'm not allowed to see my husband sir, so I don't know how he is doing. No-one is telling me anything. I would please like to meet with you, and hear from you what is wrong with him."
Thalin’s face was suddenly awash with concern, “I apologize for any disrespect I may have shown then. I’m…” He paused for a second as he left the room, walking down the hallway to the turbolift with his communicator still in hand, “I’m heading for the turbolift now. I’ll be with you in a moment. Though I must admit that even my own knowledge may be a bit left for want.”

Though I must admit that even my own knowledge may be a bit left for want.”
"I'll wait in engineering sir," Gwen replied and handed the communicator back to Thelev. "Thank you," she told the Andorian engineer.
"No need to thank me. Savin is lucky to have such a concerned mate. He doesn't deserve to be in the brig."
"He thinks he does," Gwen replied, though her voice betrayed her own disagreement to that, "he believes he's guilty. He didn't even argue when he was arrested and brought to the station. That's not like him, normally he would've argued the logic or illogic of it. He went willingly and without protest."
"He gave is word ma'am. He already was under arrest but only free to wander the ship. He gave his word he would make no escape and when transferred he'd not argue about it. Besides, it'd only have been a waste of breath." Awkwardly, the Andorian patted the young Human woman on the shoulder. "It'll be all right," he promised, "he's got a few friends here even if he doesn't realise it."
The woman shook her head. "I just don't understand what got into him. He's never harmed anyone before, he's a pacifist to boot."
Thelev chuckled. "A pacifist who knows how to wield his weapons. He's got starfleet combat training like everyone else. He knows how to fight when he has to. Now, he just has no reason. To fight would only make things worse."
Both turned as Zarath walked into engineering. Thelev saluted the fellow Andorian, while Gwen waited anxiously for him to approach. "Any word on my husband?" she asked nervously, "any news on what happened to him, that caused him to attack people? He'd never harm anyone, something must've been terribly wrong. Was he injured recently that you know of, that could've been the cause of this?"
Gwen reached out to grab Zarath's arm in desperation. "Please sir, I need to know. They won't let me see him, they won't let him talk to me. They won't even let him see Simon. What happened?"
[Zarath]
"Has a doctor seen to him yet? He'll need medication, he's a diabetic. He'll get very sick if he doesn't get his insulin. Please, tell me they allow him at least that? Is he treated well?"
[Zarath]

.:.Sickbay.:.
Doctor Kara Benson realized that the staff was extremely shorthanded at the moment. And, she felt like she was constantly being pulled from one task to another when she remembered that Savin was in need of his treatment. She stood up from her desk and entered the main portion of sickbay.
Kara stepped over to the drawer and pulled out a hypospray and loaded the insulin treatment into it. "I'm going to go take care of Lieutenant Savin, please continue the research and keep me up to date." She said looking out the corner of her eye as she stepped out of the sickbay.
.:.Savin's Cell.:.
A few moments later the young female doctor stepped inside the brig. She looked at the guards, "I am here to give Savin his treatment." She said to them under her breath. She watched as both men stepped out of her way. She then stepped up to the forcefield and the cell. "Lower it please?"
Kara watched as the guards walked up to her left and her right, and the forcefield went down. She knew that the guards were there for her protection, but it was quite annoying. "Lieutenant Savin please come here."
<Savin>
Once he was standing before her she took the hypo and pressed it firmly to his neck and squeezed injecting the insulin into his system. "There we go." She said smiling, and trying to hide the stress she was under. Which, did take a great deal to hide from those around her.
<Savin>
She looked at him peering over his shoulder for a moment, "I have good news Lieutenant, we have found the cause for your adrupt behavior change. I also believe that it is treatable. Within a few months the DNA strand that was affected should be reversed with some therapy." She said quietly aimed only at him. She wasn't entirely certain just yet if it was reversable it would take time first. As a doctor she was learning that she had to look more at the long term then the short term.
<Savin>
Now on to the next order of business, "I need the Romulan woman to come here." When the woman stepped near her she would speak, "I need a piece of your hair."
The Romulan grumpled a little bit before pulling out a strand of hair from the top of her head.
She then turned her attention back to Lieutenant Savin, "I took some law in the academy I will try to represent you for your case if you so desire?"
<Savin>
She smiled weakly, then nodded for him to return to the back of the cell. Stepping back she watched as the cell forcefield was raised, "Lieutenant Nurse Jennifer Hicks will be tending to you for a while I am still working on more information for your upcoming trial."
<Savin>
After he said what it was that he had to said she stepped towards the guards, "Take good care of the Lieutenant." She said her voice seeming to trail.
.:.Passageway.:.
With the hair she placed it inside a small envelop that she had brought with her. Next she opened her communicator, "Doctor Benson to Commander Zarath, I have taken care of Lieutenant Savin's insulin treatment. I also let him know the current situation, please tell his wife that he is being well cared for so long as I am on this ship."
<Thalin/Gwen if listening in>
Kara then made her way towards Sickbay she had to test this hair against Savin's DNA to see if their was a match in the DNA marker. If there were any matches she would be extremely worried.
.:.Sickbay.:.
Kara sighed as the doors behind her swooshed closed, "Ms. Hicks a word please?"
Jenny Hicks heard her name and walked over to the doctor. It was extremely clear that this poor woman was under a lot of stree just by looking at the Doctor's expressions. She knew that Kara was doing everything she could in order to clear Savin's name. Even at the cost of sleep, and the fact that Kara had just checked on board twenty hours ago and didn't know Savin was something to be noted. "Yes Doctor?"
Kara smiled weakly, "I am going to go test this hair, please take care of Savin while I'm busy. He needs his treatments, and he knows that you'll be taking care of him while I'm busy."
Jenny nodded, "I will Doctor, you've been at this for twenty hours you need to get some sleep."
Kara nodded, "Yes, but I want to get this started before I do that." She said, she was rather sleep deprived at this moment, and didn't even realize it until Jenny said something.
Jenny shook her head, "No ma'am here give it to me I'll run it through the system. I already know what your looking for."
Laura looked up towards the Doctor from the datapad in her hand, "She's right, besides Doctor that's why you have a staff." She said smiling.
Kara shook her head, "I'm being tag teamed huh?" She said smiling a little, "Alright I give up...You win." She handed the hair to Jenny. "I'll be in my quarters please contact me if you find anything."
Jenny nodded, "Yes Doc."
Kara smiled again then made her way out of the sickbay..
.:.Benson's Quarters.:.
Kara stepped inside her personal quarters, and looking towards the bed and then the tiredness really hit her. She quickly changed into her night clothes and laid down under the blanket. No sooner did her head hit the pillow her eyes were closed and she was out cold...

OOC: Welcome back Kara. I apologise for my delay in posting RL has me swamped at the moment.
"I am, as I claimed to be, fully Vulcan ma'am, and there is no way Mr tr'Lwheiir can claim otherwise. He has tried to get under my skin but has failed to do so, so far. I do not know, however, how much longer I can tolerate him. My emotions are frayed ma'am, and close to the surface. I am sharing a cell and am unable to meditate. I have, however, been given my medication, and sufficient supply to self-medicate when required." Aly nodded slowly, despite all that had happened on their last trip she had never in her heart doubted that Savin was who he said he was. Of course, her head said she had to obey starfleet regulations and thus here she was. She would be complaining about the delay in bringing the lieutenant his medication though and would be seeing about getting him transferred to quarters arrest.
Aly felt the Vulcan's gaze on her and looked up meeting his gaze. "Captain, I do apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you. I know I was under alien influence, but ..." He hesitated, before squarely meeting her gaze. "I do feel guilty. I did sabotage your vessel, unwillingly, but the facts cannot be denied. While I did attack Mr Los, I do believe it was an act of self-preservation. His intent was to do harm to me. I do not believe I have harmed anyone, have I? And I have been true to my word, have I not?" "You have indeed." Aly's words were distinctly formal in tone. He had not caused any further trouble and she doubted the Excalibur would have made it back to base without his help.
"I shall, of course, hand over to you all knowledge I have on Romulans, and am quite prepared to give you a full briefing on what I know. They are an area of interest to me ma'am, you have my word that it does not go beyond that. A hobby, I believe is the Human term?"
Now Aly did break into a smile, her knowledge of linguistics peeked. "I believe it is."
Aly looked up to notice that the guard was glaring at her through the window of the interview room. Apparently her time was up. She had time for a few parting words that she hoped would keep the Vulcan in good spirits, before she was ushered out.
As she wandered the corridors of the starbase waiting for her appointment with the security Chief it occurred to Aly that she had not mentioned to Savin that if things stayed the same then she might well be representing him. No doubt it had completely slipped her mind because she simply wasn't looking forward to it.
******************************************************
A few hours later.
Aly had made her complaint to the Security Chief and received all sorts of reassurances in response. She was now on her way back to her temporary quarters to get some sleep. Then her commicator chirped. Pulling the device out Aly flipped it open. "Doctor Benson to Captain Ryat" "Captain Ryat here" "I have discovered a new development in this DNA situation with our chief engineering officer you may want to see this." Aly supressed a sigh and confirmed the doctor's location. She flipped shut the communicator only then muttering a few choice phrases in a mixture of Klingon and Andorian (warrior races had all the best curses). She headed back to the Excalibur.
Aly reached sickbay and was unsurprised to note that Commander Zarath and his assistant were both present. The young doctor looked worn and rather twitchy. Aly waited for her to begin, hoping she hadn't kept the others waiting too long. See this marker in his DNA structure, it has been altered I compared it to his structure from his entry into the academy and it is different." Aly looked at the data but it didn't mean anything to her, her medical knowledge was pretty limited after all. She squinted and flicked her eyes between the before and after data sets just as if yshe were looking for errors in a translation matrix. Eventually the discrepancy became obvious.
That made Aly wince internally. What had been affected in Trill?
"I would like to test a Romulan to see if they were affected, but I want permission from them." "I will see if that can be arranged." Aly said.
Doctor Benson took a deep breath and paused for a moment, "Savin would have lost all control over himself and would not have been thinking in a rational manner. It is my belief that over time he will regain his rational thinking. I would recommend that after a few months to retest him to see if this is permanent." Aly nodded.
"I would imagine that some other races may also possibly be at risk for long term affects. She hoped that Savin would be okay, it would be devastating for a Vulcan to lose their emotional control. He had said that his emotions were frayed....
The science officers and the doctor became embroiled in a complex discussion which was going completely over Aly's head. Rather than distract them she left quietly knowing that they would contact her when they had reached a conclusion.
OOC: More to come....

Gwen reached out to grab Zarath's arm in desperation. "Please sir, I need to know. They won't let me see him, they won't let him talk to me. They won't even let him see Simon. What happened?"
Zarath exhaled softly, shaking his head as he thought to himself, “He was the subject in an experiment, to make a long story short. I don’t believe that I quite understand it myself. However, I will do my best to exchange information as soon as I receive it. I may look stoic and all, but I care deeply about everyone aboard this ship. If you can do nothing else for me, please try to understand that.” He frowned, hoping that she would accept his grossly simplified explanation, or at least not grow too impatient with him from it.
"Has a doctor seen to him yet? He'll need medication, he's a diabetic. He'll get very sick if he doesn't get his insulin. Please, tell me they allow him at least that? Is he treated well?"
The Andorian lowered his head, biting his lip a bit as he thought, “If nothing else, I will see to it. I am unsure if he has been administered it, but if he has not, I will have a physician down there immediately. That being said, I did not know that he was a diabetic. I suppose he shouldn’t be suffering from concerns like that any more. There was no way to treat him besides that?”
Zarath opened his communicator, nodding as he received the news despite the fact that his head could not be seen, “Thank you kindly, I’ll pass the information along. I don’t think she’s overheard you.”
In case Gwen had not heard that bit of information, Zarath turned about, nodding as his shock of white hair moved a bit with the motions of his head. “I do hope you heard that; Doctor Benson reports he’s well cared for, and has been administered insulin.”

Aly had barely left sickbay when her communicator chirped. Flipping it open in a smooth motion she answered.
"Captain Ryat Here." ...
"I see, sir"
Aly sighed. Being asked to head out now was nearly the last thing she needed right now but... She had orders.
She returned to sickbay.
"Commander Zarath, I need to speak to you." As soon as her second in command had walked over to her ALy began.
"Apparently there is a tight communication beam, originating from the northern magnetic pole of the third planet in this system that is focused on the main engineering section of the starbase. So far no one has been able to decode it. Apparently the Excalibur is ready for a short shake down cruise and we've been assigned to investigate. I need a skeleton crew assembled for the trip in one hour." She paused and scraped a bit of trailing hair back with her fingers.
"I'm sorry I don't have much more information for you. Do you have any questions."

*****************************************************
Leaving her ship behind briefly. Aly returned to starbase to make to best use of the fifty or so minutes remaining to her. She reached the brig area. So far Mr Savin had not been transferred but although she had requested the transfer to quarters ALy was relived, it meant that she didn't have to chase across the station to catch up to him.
When she had gotten an interview room she settled opposite Savin and waited for the door to close.
"I have to inform you that so far your advocate has not arrived on starbase. The courtmartial will not be delayed for it. Regulations suggest that the highest ranked officer present not serving on the panel should be your advocate. At the moment that would be me, unless there is someone else you'd prefer."

= USS Excalibur, Main Engineering =
"Thank you commander, I heard," Gwen replied, touching the Andorian's arm lightly. "I'm relieved to hear he's being cared for, but that doesn't change the way I feel. I'm his wife commander, I have the basic right to see him. He's not in isolation is he, so why am I not allowed to see him?"
[Thalin]
= Starbase, Brig Area =
"Lieutenant Savin please come here."
Disentangling himself from the now sleeping Orion women, Savin gracefully rose to his feet and approached the doctor. He did so in complete silence, his eyes never leaving the medical officer.
Once he was standing before her she took the hypo and pressed it firmly to his neck and squeezed injecting the insulin into his system. "There we go." She said smiling, and trying to hide the stress she was under. Which, did take a great deal to hide from those around her.
"Thank you doctor," the Vulcan replied, even though he didn't really like being injected in his neck. He usually injected the insulin in his thigh, as seemed to be tradition when one was a diabetic. Savin resisted the urge to rub the spot where she'd injected him, waiting patiently for her to continue as it was clear she wasn't done speaking yet. He stood at fair ease, seeming relatively relaxed even though his eyes showed the stress he was under.
"I will undergo that therapy," Savin replied calmly, "I have no desire to suffer any further from this condition. I am unable to meditate, and my emotions are on the surface. I have rested a little so I may appear controlled, but trust me doctor, I am not." He paused, studying her as she interacted with the Romulan, before she returned to him.
"I took some law in the academy I will try to represent you for your case if you so desire?"
"I would welcome your representation doctor, thank you. It seems Starfleet neglected to send me legal representation. Given your treatment of me, I do believe you will be sufficiently capable to defend me. However Captain Ryat may need to extend permission for you to do so."
She smiled weakly, then nodded for him to return to the back of the cell. Stepping back she watched as the cell forcefield was raised, "Lieutenant Nurse Jennifer Hicks will be tending to you for a while I am still working on more information for your upcoming trial."
"I usually keep a small supply of insulin with me doctor. If you leave the vial and the hypospray with me, there is no need for the nurse to come back to inject me with it. Unless you are referring to the therapy you mentioned?"
[Benson]
= a little later =
Savin had been lying on the cot, trying yet again to get some more sleep. Fortunately, the Orions were still dozing in the corner so he wasn't bothered by their constant and persistent touching. He sat up as he heard footsteps approaching fast.
"I have to inform you that so far your advocate has not arrived on starbase. The courtmartial will not be delayed for it. Regulations suggest that the highest ranked officer present not serving on the panel should be your advocate. At the moment that would be me, unless there is someone else you'd prefer."
"Doctor Benson has graciously offered to represent me captain," the Vulcan replied softly, "I am, however, certain she would welcome assistance as she lacks experience. I shall be looking forward to when this is over ma'am. I am not claustrophobic but this inactivity is getting to me, I admit. I cannot meditate, I cannot get sufficient rest and I am not allowed to see my wife and son. Furthermore, my cellmates insist in constantly touching me, which is very discomforting to me. I do not like to be touched, and it does not help my unbalanced state of mind. If I am not allowed to see anyone, family or friends, I would request solitary confinement. At least then, I can meditate and rest."

Thalin nodded slowly as he bit his lip with a blink in his eye, “I deeply appreciate the respect that you have for your mate. I understand that it is an honorable concern, and I did not mean to specify in any other context. However, I am not allowed to let you out regardless. I am under the impression that the reason they are doing this is for some sort of security concern.”
He paused for a few moments, frowning, “Did that make any sense at all? The reason, according to my logic, would be that because of the sensitive nature of the experiment in the first place, they couldn’t allow someone without a definite need to see to be there. That being said, I seriously disagree with whom they define as such. Should I have been in charge, I would certainly have allowed you to go attend to him. I am sorry that things are not the way that either of us would have liked for them to be. Can you at least not blame me too much?”

.:.Backpost.:.
"I usually keep a small supply of insulin with me doctor. If you leave the vial and the hypospray with me, there is no need for the nurse to come back to inject me with it. Unless you are referring to the therapy you mentioned?"
Doctor Benson nodded, "Very well Lieutenant, but I am still going to have Nurse Hicks check up on your supply later. And, as soon as the research is complete then we will begin the therapy." She replied and handed him some vials and the hypospray canister.
.:.Present, Benson's Quarters.:. Kara slept soundly her dreams filled with what seemed to be ancient memories of her childhood. Her parents dancing wildly in her thoughts, until her communicator that lay next to her bed on the nightstand began beeping madly at her. The noise caused the young woman to jerk from her sleep. Carefully she reached over with eyes still closed, and opened her communicator. "Yes?"
=^=Kara this is Ensign Mitchell you have a message marked as urgent coming in. You may want to take it right away...=^=
She heard the male voice on the other end, "I will..." She said sleepily, and reached over next to her communicator lay her glasses, yes Kara was not by any means gifted with great eyesight typically she wore contacts, but she was just waking up. She sat up placing the small frame up the bridge of her nose, and walked over to the console pulling her auburn hair from her face and behind her ears.
Kara sat down, and opened the channel seeing her little sister Jennifer on the other end, "Yes sis?"
=^=Kara...Mum wanted me to contact you to tell you that Dad had a stroke...=^=
She had always been close to her family and this caught her off guard she wished she was home at this moment..."Is he...did he?"
=^=He's alright, some minor brain damage, but they got to him in time. He'll be alright sis I just wanted to update you on the situation. I'll tell you more when we know more.=^=
Kara nodded, "Okay Jen. I'm really busy right now, but at my first chance I'm taking leave home!" She watched as her sister nodded with a smile, "Bye!" She said blowing a kiss in the console's direction.
=^=Bye sis love ya!=^=
"Love ya too tell Mum and Dad I send my love." She watched as the girl who looked nearly identical to her nod and vanish as the screen blanked out. Kara sat back smirking she still had an accent that much made her smile. She would bury herself in her work, but first she needed a shower.
After getting out of the shower and wrapping a towel around her her communicator beeped again so she walked over and opened it once more, "Doctor Benson go ahead?"
=^=Hey Doc this is Nurse Hicks. It's as we thought, but I think with gene therapy as well as counciling Savin should get better.=^=
"Understood Jenny. I will be in sickbay shortly to finish the tests." Kara replied and closed the communicator, before slipping next to the mirror and putting her contacts back in. Dressed, and ready to go the young doctor made her way to sickbay. Which didn't take her too terribly long...
.:.Sickbay.:.
Kara stepped inside seeing her staff already hard at work. She had only gotten five hours of sleep, but that was enough to relax her. Though, her thoughts were still on her family back home. She stepped inside her office and quietly began running tests on the gene therapy idea. However, nothing really seemed to be working all that well. And, aside from that she wanted to test the other crew for the same condition as Savin.
She pressed down on the communicator on her desk, "All crewmembers this is Doctor Benson, I will be conducting crew physicals in regards to the last mission starting in one hour come when it best benefits you. And, yes this includes all senior staff, members except Savin who has already had the tests ran, to report to me as quickly as you can."

With the Excalibur docked there was very little internal security to be maintained and the Bases own security detail had made it abundantly clear that once out the airlock they were in their jurisdiction. Gaev was still finding it strange to be head of security especially with Commander Los returned to the ship. He felt like a usurper or traitor perhaps. he tried to console himself with the fact that Captain Ryat must have some confidence in him to have promoted him to the new post.
He drummed his fingers on the desk of his security office and rubbed his eyes wearily. It was strange how tired one could get when doing nothing.
"This is ridiculous" he muttered to himself and bounded to his feet. He straightened his uniform and reached for the wall comm.
"This is Ensign Mobren to the Captain"

"Sorry to bother you Captain but it occurred to me that our last encounter with the Romulans showed some weaknesses in our security. I would like to run a series of drills and ensure all staff are up to spec."

"Ah yes I did hear the Doctors PA announcement. I ll go there directly. And thank you sir err Maam. Gaev out."
Gaev removed his sidearm and returned it to the weapons locker. Locking his office he went down into the engineering hull to where the sickbay was safely ensconced deep with the superstructure of the ship.
Smoothing his beard down he pressed the door release and entered. He was met by one of the nurses who took him through and sat him on a bio bed. The Andorian passed him a PaDD and asked him to fill out a recent medical history. Aside from the usual breaks, cuts and burns all security officers got Gaev believed himself to be in excellent health. The form took a little under five minutes upon which time a young human female appeared. He looked at her smooth skin and flat twinkly eyes in revulsion. Humans were a strange race. Like most humanoids in Starfleet they all seemed to prefer hairless faces although in the case of females he had heard that was natural of all things.
"Dr Benson I presume" he greeted extending a chubby hand

"Doctor Benson has graciously offered to represent me captain," the Vulcan replied softly, "I am, however, certain she would welcome assistance as she lacks experience." Aly tried not to let her relief show. She would do all she could to help the Doctor.
"I shall be looking forward to when this is over ma'am. Aly was also looking forward to having her ship and engineer back.
"I am not claustrophobic but this inactivity is getting to me, I admit. At least then, I can meditate and rest." Now that was just wrong. as far as Aly was aware there were no visiting restrictions placed on the Lieutenant so if someone hadn't been allowing his family to visit that was just wrong....
"I will do what I can."She promised.
When she left the Brig Aly went straight to the starbase Commander and using every milligram of diplomacy and restraint she possessed made her case to him. The end result was that Lieutenant Savin was now confined to quarters aboard the base and his wife and son were allowed to visit him. She returned to the Brig to inform him of the news.

Then Aly went straight to see Gwen to apologise.

"This is Ensign Mobren to the Captain"
"This is Captain Ryat" Despite her best effort's Aly's voice sounded tired.
"Sorry to bother you Captain but it occurred to me that our last encounter with the Romulans showed some weaknesses in our security. I would like to run a series of drills and ensure all staff are up to spec."
"By all means, Ensign. I look forward to seeing your analysis." Aly Paused and pinched the bridge of her nose. "I want you to aid me in looking into the personal history of the base's secuity staff. Someone there was making thing more difficult than they needed to be for us. I want to know why."

"One last thing I'm on my way to sickbay now for my physical. You should join me there. Senior staff should set a good example."
"Ah yes I did hear the Doctors PA announcement. I ll go there directly. And thank you sir err Maam. Gaev out."
Aly went to sickbay to see Doctor Benson. She didn't like physicals but knew that as she was the only Trill the Doctor was likely to have looked at nothing out of the ordinary would be seen. As she had said to the Security Chief she did prefer for the senior staff to set a good example.
"So Doctor, do I pass?"" Aly asked.

When she left the Brig Aly went straight to the starbase Commander and using every milligram of diplomacy and restraint she possessed made her case to him. The end result was that Lieutenant Savin was now confined to quarters aboard the base and his wife and son were allowed to visit him. She returned to the Brig to inform him of the news."Thank you captain, I appreciate your effort." It would be much better for him if he were just on his own, instead of constantly badgered by two highly emotional and very sensual Orion women. They were testing his patience as well as his resolve, considering the high amount of pheromones they continued to release on him. While Vulcans appeared to be immune to him, in his already fragile state of mind, his resolve and immunity had started to show a few cracks. He allowed the guards to bind his hands once more, grateful for the fact that they touched him as little as possible, and found himself guided to very small and simple quarters on the starbase. Upon release, he was informed that two guards would be outside at all times. He didn't need the hint to know what would happen should he try to leave the room. For a moment, he wondered whether they realised that he was a skilled engineer, and if he wanted to leave, he would find a way. Not that he intended to, because he knew that every attempt to leave would increase his guilt, and his chances on conviction. And while he would plead guilty to the charges, medical and psychological evaluations had already proven that he had been under the influence of the Romulan weapon, and to a very large degree, could not be held accountable. Once the guards left the room, and a few personal belongings had been brought to him, Savin resigned himself to studying the evidence that he'd been provided with, having it ready for his defense counsel, in the person of Doctor Kara Benson, as well as captain Alyana Ryat, to review. --------- Then Aly went straight to see Gwen to apologise.Gwen hugged her son close to her, tears of joy appearing in her eyes. She thrust the boy into the stunned Andorian engineer's arms, then fiercely hugged the Trill woman. "Thank you," she whispered between her tears, "thank you so much." Clearly uncomfortable, Thelev handed the three-year old back to his mother as soon as he was able, and stepped out of reach, muttering an excuse about having work to do while his boss was away doing well...nothing in particular. Of course, he meant no malice with his words, as he knew perfectly well that if he could've, Savin would've been on duty, working as hard as he usually did. Taking her son back, Gwen hurried out of engineering and made her way back to the starbase. For once, the guards gave her no trouble as she tried to enter the quarters her husband was held in, for which she was grateful. Once inside, she made straight for the tall Vulcan, who was sat on the bed, his eyes closed. She set Simon aside on the bed and crawled onto her husband's lap, hugging him fiercely as she cried against his shoulder. She smiled slighly as she felt him respond by putting his arms around her, murmuring soothing words into her ear. "Everything will be all right," he assured her, "it will not take too long. This is only temporary Gwen, until the situation is resolved. Surely you know that I would not consciously harm anyone? While I cannot deny that I did, I know I was not myself. I must take responsibility however, do you understand?" Gwen nodded sadly. "Yes Savin, I understand. But I can't bear it if you go to prison. The charges are severe..." "I will not be sent to prison," Savin replied, confident that he wouldn't. Quietly, he stroked her hair, then lifted her face up so he could look into her eyes. Briefly, his lips brushed against hers, before pulling away slightly. "You should not worry, for I do not. The captain will defend me, and we will win. There may be a smudge on my record by means of a reprimand, but I will continue to serve my ship and my captain." Gwen smiled. "I know," she replied, "but I'm only Human.." "You are only nothing," he chided her gently, "you are my wife. It is your duty to be concerned for me, when I cannot display concern. I can, however, display my love for you, here in these quarters." He scooped up the child. "I will always be able to provide for you and Simon. And I will always love you, however illogical it may seem, and however little I can express it in public. You knew that, when you consented to marry me." Simon babbled intelligeably as his father talked, trying to mimic his words, while suckling on his fingers. "Daddy I'm hungry," the child suddenly demanded, "want food!" He hopped up and down on his lap, clearly impatient. Savin looked down at his son, and a small smile appeared on his face. "So am I my son, so am I. We will eat soon." "I don't know how long I'll be alowed to stay. The captain said she arranged for me to visit." "You are my wife, you belong with me. The guards understand that, and will not interfere. Stay with me tonight." The look in his eyes spoke volumes and actually made the young wife blush. She nodded quietly. "I will stay," she promised. "Good. I am...content." Savin closed his eyes again, and Gwen knew he was trying to meditate and order his thoughts. Quietly, she drew their son back from his lap and withdrew to the small living area, leaving him on his own for now.

.:.Sickbay.:.
Kara stepped back away from the young ensign, "There your finished Ensign Molby." She said and watched as the human male exitted her sickbay. The staff was extremely busy trying to take care of all the incoming patients. Luckily they'd taken down a large portion of the crew. When one of the senior officers entered.
"Dr Benson I presume" he greeted extending a chubby hand
She graciously took the tellerite's hand and shook it calmly. "On the biobed please." She said and once he was sitting there she began to run the tests that had been ran for the last hundred times. After a few momtents the results came back, but there was something rather odd with his lung results. "Hold on a second Ensign." She said and looked over the results with further study.
"It appears that you may have something called Tyler's Syndrome." This didn't please her, "I will have to run more tests on you later please return at around 1800." She said and placed the test results on the side, "You are finished for now...And, don't worry Tyler's Syndrome will not kill you. But, it quite possibly will never go away." She said trying to smile slightly to comfort the tellerite.
<tag Gaev>
Next came the Captain, this was the third time she'd seen the woman in a the four days she'd been there. It had been hectic trying to assume the responsibilities of the Medical Chief in the current crisis. "Please take a seat." She asked nicely and when the captain sat she would begin to run tests. So far all the non human species on board had something altered from the exposure during their recent encounter. Some like Savin were severe, but would pass in time with therapy.
Other's like Gaev it would probably plague them for the rest of their lives. With Captain Ryat she had to test both the host and the trill symboint. This was something she wasn't entirely accustomed to.
Within moments the test results would return as she heard the captain speak, "So Doctor do I pass?"
Kara grinned reading as everything looked good except one thing, "It appears you will have to undergo some gene therapy. The exposure you faced in the previous mission has altered...Oh this is great." She muttered and lifted a small flashlight off her table. "Doctor I need you to look at the wall behind me. Try not to blink."
She silently shined the light in the Captain's eyes. "Your left iris is starting to change color. But, the right one is fine. With about a week's worth of treatment and the altercation should return back to normal. You won't need surgery or anything drastic, and that is a plus."
"Okay Captain are there any questions."
<tag Ryat>
After the Captain was finished the communicator behind her echoed, "Doctor Benson."
Kara walked over to it and responded, "Yes?"
"Lieutenant Savin has been moved to some quarters and you have been approved to be his defense attorney in the matter regarding -"
Kara cut the male voice off, "Understood I will meet with him to begin reviewing the case files Doctor Benson out." She sighed and turned towards the nurses and the doctor they had brought on board from the starbase. "I will return by 1800." She replied.
.:.Savin's (Location here).:.
Kara walked up to the guard, "Doctor Kara Benson I am his representive." She watched as the guard stepped to the side and she entered. "Lieutenant Savin, it's me Doctor Benson I am here to start going over the case files with you?"

Kara walked up to the guard, "Doctor Kara Benson I am his representive." She watched as the guard stepped to the side and she entered. "Lieutenant Savin, it's me Doctor Benson I am here to start going over the case files with you?"
Savin gasped as the voice startled him. He felt a weight half on him and only when he tried to sit up did he realise that Gwen was leaning over him, fast asleep. Chagrined, he realised too that he had also been quite asleep. "I will be with you shortly doctor," he called, his voice having an odd tone to it.
Carefully, he shifted his wife's limp body back on the bed and made sure he covered her, before slipping out. He was fortunate he had a screen set up between his bed and his living area, even though this weren't his own quarters. These were smaller than his own, though not by much.
Quickly, he pulled his uniform back on and raked his hands through his hair in an attempt to make himself presentable. "I apologise doctor I was sleeping," he announced as he approached. "Please, have a seat. Normally I would offer you something but as you can see, my possessions are absent, including my stock of drinks."
He waited for the doctor to be seated, then sat himself down after quickly checking in on his son, who appeared to be dreaming peacefully. "What would you like to discuss?" he asked, "I have already stated that I can do nothing but plead guilty, and I refuse to plead insanity because that will cost my my career. That device did influence me, as medical records can prove, but that does not negate the fact that I did sabotage the Excalibur, and that I did assault a superior officer. However much I regret my actions. I do also believe that my knowledge on Romulans was of assistance. I know I have been accused of being a Romulan spy, but tests have irrefutably proven that I am as I claim I am, which is full Vulcan."
He paused, shifting uncomfortably. "In truth, I am not quite certain how you intend to defend me, and plead my case."

"I will be with you shortly doctor," he called, his voice having an odd tone to it.
"Alright Lieutenant." She replied feeling slightly sorry for him, she didn't know that he had been sleeping otherwise she would have waited until later. It was she just had so much on her mind with her family issues and what not it was affecting her sleep.
"I apologise doctor I was sleeping," he announced as he approached. "Please, have a seat. Normally I would offer you something but as you can see, my possessions are absent, including my stock of drinks."
She smiled slightly, "Oh, no Lieutenant it is I that should be apologizing I didn't realize you were asleep." When he had mentioned the drink she sort of turned up her nose. She wasn't much into liquor or alchohol of any sort. "It's quite alright." She replied softly. And, took a seat.
She listened to him much like a counselor would listen to a patient of the insane. But, this was a special case as she was not a counselor, and Savin wasn't insane. "I would like to run more tests on you Lieutenant I think our best defense will be medical evidence. And, as far as the Romulans are concerned I am most certain some sort of deal could be worked out."
"As you wish," the Vulcan replied in monotone. He couldn't fathom what more test she would desire to run, since he already felt he'd gone through every possible examination. Plus, the wrong sort of test, especially involving being injected with something, might even result in a hyper, something which was quite dangerous for him. "What did you have in mind?" He turned his head for a moment, listening whether Gwen was waking or still asleep.
She thought for a moment, a neuro test would work. She also needed to find some way to agitate him. So what annoys you I wonder... The thought was quite cynical, which was a rarity for her, "I will need to run some tests using needles you are not afraid of those I hope?" She asked him.
"Fear is an emotion," Savin replied calmly, even though from his expression it was obvious he wasn't entirely keen on them. "You may run your tests."
She had studied on Vulcans for quite a while during her time in medical school, and Savin was the only one she had known to be diabetic. Now he had some sort of Gene disorder to boot, but luckily both were treatable, and the second would eventually be cured. "One or more tests may also involve sticking a needle in some rather painful spots such as your back. I will also need to conduct a neuro test on you, but that will require you to be asleep."
Savin thought for a moment, closing his eyes to order his thoughts. He didn't like the idea of needles being stuck into him; he had been known to be squeamish when someone once suggested acupuncture as a form of relaxation. Making a conscious effort to keep his breathing even, he opened his eyes again, giving her a minute nod. "I presume you wish for us to move to sickbay? Or can this test be performed here."
She watched his facial expression change with each passing moment, and she knew that she hadn't struck a nerve yet. But, she was getting very close to what she was trying to accomplish. "Yes, we will need to move to sickbay it'll be much easier to perform the procedures" She replied standing up. "If you would follow me."
The Vulcan gave another minute nod as he rose to his feet. As soon as they stepped outside, the guards fell into line with them after he stated the doctor was taking him to sickbay for further testing. He walked with his hands folded before him, his head bent forward a little, his eyes down-cast. There was no visible shame, but he certainly perceived some even if he wouldn't admit it. In silence he followed the doctor to sickbay, then waited patiently for her to offer specific direction.
She led him to the back portion of sickbay so that she could do this work on him in private. The nurses were intent to follow, but she shook her head. This is a character building exercise. She found herself smirking at the thought.
Savin sat on the diagnostic bed, closing his eyes as he fought for calm. Outwardly, he appeared calm if not slightly pale, but inwardly, he was in turmoil. "Do you wish for me to sit up, or lie down?" he enquired, his voice still devoid of any expression.
She watched as he sat down on the bed clearly he was fighting back the emotions. She had pressed all the right buttons, and pushed him into a corner. Reminded her of medical school when she took that semester in psychology. "I need you to lay on your stomach top of your uniform needs to be off so I can take the sample from your back."
Again, he simply nodded and unknotted the sash around his waist that held his red uniform top in place. Then he pulled the tunic off, neatly hanging it over a chair that stood close by. Equally carefully, he took off the black under shirt, and folded it as well. Next, he also removed his boots as he figured there was no need to ruin the bed.
Following the doctor's direction, he lay face down on the bed, folding his arms under his head, as he attempted to be comfortable. He focused his energy on keeping his breathing calm, and not on where she might prick him first.
[color[white]Kara watched as he did this, then she closed her eyes turning away as he lay on the bed. She calmed herself it wasn't every day that a Doctor in the twenty third century played with needles. She had been quite good at it during her time at medical school. But, that was a one time ordeal they didn't do things like they used to. Part of her wanted him restrained, but the other part took over. Just like a part of her wanted to warn him of exactly where she was going to prick him. Once again however she did not. Her instincts kicked in the first would be the most painful. Kara calmly and as gently as she could she placed the tip of the needle on the left side of the spinal column along the second vertebrae down. She then quickly pushed the sharp through the skin.[/color]
Savin hissed in response, but otherwise gave no indication on whether it was painful for him. He twitched once, then remained still. It was clear he was working hard on keeping his muscles under control.
Next Kara drew a bit of liquor* out of him, then she withdrew the needle and emptied the fluid into a vial she had handy. The sharp went into the red labeled bag saying Bio Hazard then she moved to another needle. This one she stuck slightly to the right and just above the pelvic bone this one however didn't go too deep. The fluid was withdrawn as before...
The Vulcan wrenched his eyes closed, clenching his jaws together. This was more than just a little uncomfortable; if he didn't know better, he might classify it as torture. "This is barbaric," he hissed at her.
Kara heard him hiss with each prick, and finally as she drew the green fluid that was his blood she got a response she wanted. Patient doesn't like needles too much, though I have got to say drawing blood for a blood test from this location is rather odd. She thought to herself as she placed it inside it's vial. "Okay Savin now carefully roll over I am going to put you on anaesthetics. This is the final test it is the neurology test which requires more needles in your head to your brain. But, as I said you'll be unconscious."
Slowly, the Vulcan rolled over, shivering slightly as it was cooler in sickbay, than it was in his quarters, where he kept the temperature slightly above Human normal. There was a thin film of perspiration on his brow and his eyes were still closed. Slowly, he opened them as he regarded the doctor, relaxing his jaws. "Proceed," he told her stiffly. Pain was in his eyes for a brief moment but it was quickly controlled.
She nodded, watching him as he rolled over she then began the procedure of making sure that he fell into a very deep sleep. She knew the dangers, and this time she got the attention of her nurses, and the surgeon they had on staff in order to aide her in performing the procedure...

“…However much I regret my actions. I do also believe that my knowledge on Romulans was of assistance. I know I have been accused of being a Romulan spy, but tests have irrefutably proven that I am as I claim I am, which is full Vulcan."
The Andorian exhaled, walking in slowly with a bit of a self-imposed militaristic frown. Perhaps it was the fact that this involved the Vulcan people that explained his strange suppression of emotions. Or, perhaps, it’s just that Andorians seemed to be in a perpetually weird mood. Whatever the case, it certainly seemed that he was in one, but the anger that seemed to mark the Andorian state of being certainly was not the way a Vulcan would want to go through life.
Twitching his antennae for a moment, he looked over, “I am not trying to add fuel to the fire; I am simply trying to do my job as a scientist. Therefore, I will have to say something. More or less, I fail to see how there would be any difference. We know little about the Romulan Star Empire; however, I understand that Vulcans and Romulans are from the same breed. There was an exodus after a time of great strife.”
“Those who did not agree with a certain philosophy…changed the rules. Or more so, they created their own rules, and from this the Romulan Star Empire was formed. I’m not sure we have sufficient quantities of specific Romulan DNA patterns to determine a real difference.”
He paused, shifting uncomfortably. "In truth, I am not quite certain how you intend to defend me, and plead my case."
The Andorian smiled a bit however, breaking his previously odd mood, “Though understand I am not certainly saying anything about you…care to have an extra attorney so to speak?” Zarath seemed to laugh, perhaps filled with some sort of self-righteousness. “Does it look like I’m changing teams in any way, or something like that?”
He smirked a bit again, “Certainly not that I actually care about that at all. I just sometimes actually wonder what everyone else thinks of me.” He yawned a bit, before looking back with his original mood.
OOC: I based this as close as I could to what TOS-era individuals in the Federation would know about the Romulans. I hope everyone enjoys.

OOC: You've been holding things together really well in my absence. Thank-you I guess it's about time to bring this to a conclusion.
The Excalibur hadn't been cleared for travel so Aly and a small skeleton crew had been sent out on a shuttle to investigate the disturbances they'd found nothing and now Aly was feeling crotchety and claustrophobic. Still, at least she was now back to starbase. She had found out that Savin's trial had all ready begun. Well, it was somewhere between a trial and a hearing as Aly understood the terms, probably just as well she wasn't defending. Despite her late arrival Aly entered the courtroom and settled in a vacant chair. She could see Kara and Savin at the front of the room. The Admiral looked unhappy but then so far she had never seen him happy.
Kara looked round as Aly entered, the doctor seemed to be calm and collected so Aly assumed that things were going well for the return of her crew member to duty. The Admiral had obviously guessed that Aly might not be back in time to testify personally as he had ordered her to record a statement before she had set out. A dark thought crossed Aly's mind, maybe the Admiral had meant for her not to be here, they'd only made it back because one of the engineers aboard had had a fiddle and retuned the shuttle's engines. There was no way that the Admiral could have deliberate tried to stop Aly being here ... was there ...
Aly shook her head and listened in to what her crew were saying.
Tag: All, feel free to consider that the Admiral might have an agenda of his own and there may have been issues getting to the court on time

.:.Backpost.:.
Kara watched as the Vulcan engineer fell asleep she then turned her attention towards a nearby nurse and nodded, "We are ready to begin the procedure." She remarked, "What his neurology reports." After the brief nod she turned on the equipment and watched as each pin slowly pierced Savin's head. She then seen the last do its work before walking around to the back screen, "Heart rate...Normal everything checks out. Beginning procedure." She said as she began to dial in each scan that was needed. Carefully she watched everything remained normal throughout the procedure for that she was thankful. "Alright do we have what we need?"
When another nod caught her attention she smiled, "Very well." She replied then she keyed in a few buttons causing each needle to in turn retract back into the equipment that was being used for the neural scans. With the report in hand all was left to do was to review it, and Savin to awake from sleep.
<Tag Savin>
Kara nodded once more, "Alright, well as soon as the patient has awaken please escort him to his quarters. I am going to review the reports." She replied before entering her office.
.:.Present.:.
Kara stood still next to her client as she heard the door behind her open she turned seeing their captain arriving late. When she faced forward it seemed the Admiral sitting the review board wasn't too happy about this. Kara seemed to tense up now it would be harder to press the case. "So in conclusion by all medical findings Savin is in fact Vulcan, and suffered a great loss of emotional control. This, Admiral, could happen to any one of us he had no control over what he was doing..."

The Andorian sighed gently, looking around. Generally, Andorians had such violent emotions, but at this moment, Zarath didn’t have much of anything. Silently, he joked to himself that it must be how his Vulcan lab assistant must have felt.
Looking about, he slowly strolled down the hallway as he contemplated the fate of the remainder of his journey here. Frankly, it wasn’t looking all that positive and yet…nothing was really happening as of such. He wasn’t going to be allowed to look at the neural scans. He wasn’t going to be allowed to do much of anything. For that matter, he saw himself as rather worthless in the situation.
It wasn’t a pleasant time.
Sighing gently, he continued to think to himself for a few moments before he finally looked up and reached for his communicator. He was in a corridor, and it seemed to be unnecessary because of that. However, he elected to do it for it seemed to him more personal, regardless of how irrational that really was.
“Miss Benson, am I allowed to speak with you? I feel that I would be able to add something to the conversation, if that’s acceptable. I understand if now is not…an opportune time for visitors. If that is true, I’ll leave you all be.”

Though consciously, Savin had been completely unaware of the extensive medical testing he had undergone, unconsciously he had been well aware. His eyes were dark with emotion as he was wakened from his sedated slumber, pain quite visible in them. As he worked his way back to consciousness, he could feel where each needle had been, as easily as if he'd been awake. Groaning uncharacteristically, he sat up and put a hand to his head, closing his eyes again for a moment. He could also quite clearly feel where she had applied her needles to his spine. Involuntary, he shuddered, and not just because he was half-dressed.
His hair was completely dissheveled and he looked haunted as he got to his feet. He was left feeling exhausted and physically drained, and made no argument when security escorted him back to his quarters.
Later, at his trial, he held silent. Meditation had helped regain some composure and he stood gracefully beside his attorey in the form of Doctor Benson. During a brief recess, during which Kara was approached by Excalibur's first officer, Savin turned to face the captain, who had come in somewhere during Kara's defense speech.
"Captain," he greeted the Trill woman, his voice rough and laced with regret and guilt. No matter how well Kara defended him, and no matter how hard he meditated, his guilt remained. He could make no excuse toward the captain, regardless of what she might think. This was his personal hell, his personal confusion, and for him alone to sort through. "I am...grateful for your presence," he continued, bowing carefully as he was still in some pain, and had not thought to take his medication in the last few hours. He felt a little faint, but was holding himself together well enough for now.
