Aly was pacing in her quarters she was happy to be back on the Excal and even more happy to have her ship back in a spaceworthy condition. She had no doubt that Savin would have found a few things that the base engineers had not completed to his standards but she had faith in her CEO to sort any problems. It wasn’t the ship that had Aly worried, it was the mission.
The Excalibur was assigned to transport two sets of diplomats to Starbase 18 where peace talks were being held. The peoples of Saltar and Tenris had been feuding for years with a low grade conflict on and off for the last twenty or so. Now they had finally agreed to talk and the Federation was mediating. Aly didn’t know if it was wise for both sets of ambassadors to travel on the same ship but apparently every other solution had led to calls of favoritism from one side or the other.
She had been given no information on either of the ambassadorial parties but had been assured that they would be waiting at the agreed co ordinates. Apparently each side felt that they would be at some sort of disadvantage if they announced who their negotiators were ahead of time. With this leave of suspicion Aly was frankly surprised that they had agreed to talk at all. Starfleet had forwarded her a set of dossiers on the most senior diplomats on both sides but there was no guarantee on which would be arriving. Starfleet had also seen fit to assign her a Diplomatic Officer. She had initially been resistant to the idea as she was a perfectly competent diplomat. Of course, Starfleet didn’t know that, to them she was just a junior Captain with a slightly dodgy record. Then, when she had found out who her diplomatic officer was to be she had relaxed a bit. It would be good to Ephrem Santos back. Aly had to admit to a few nerves at the prospect seeing her old Captain again; what would he think of what she had done since taking over the Captaincy? She shivered slightly. What if Starfleet wanted him to watch her? Aly knew she wasn’t on Starfleet’s list of favourite Captains at the moment and had wondered if there would be any further fallout. It wasn’t like her to see conspiracies everywhere which may have been why she had been a comms officer and not a sercuity officer. Not that she had had the thought, uncomfortable as it was, she couldn’t forget it. Despite that Aly did not honestly believe that Captain Santos was being sent to spy on her and the Excal. She sighed. The more she pondered things the worse she was going to feel and as she had no further information she wasn’t going to get any closer to a solution.
Her communicator beeped. She pulled it from her pocket and flipped the device open. “Captain Ryat this is Starbase 7 Command. The Excalibur is cleared to leave dock in 90 minutes.”
“Thank you starbase Command, it’ll be be good to get back out there.”
“Clear sailing to you Captain. Starbase Command out.”
With a smile Aly opened a communications link. “This is Captain Ryat to all Excalibur crew. We are leaving starbase in 90 minutes, no one is to get left behind. Department heads, there is a briefing 30 minutes before we leave base."

Ephrem Santos was uncharacteristically nervous as he made his way towards his next assignment. The mission in itself was important, but the fact that it would be taking place on board the Excalibur meant that for the first time he would be returning to his first command and a chapter in his life that had been very difficult. These thoughts had occupied much of Ephrem's mind for the last few days, but he believed that there was no one better to mediate these talks.
"Captain, I'm sorry to tell you this, but Lieutenant Summers was recalled back to Earth, I will be you attache for the remainder of this mission," a young but clearly exhausted Ensign said.
"Calm down Ensign. I need you to breathe first," Ephrem said as he took the transfer orders from the ensign's hand and read them. He cringed when he discovered that this would be Mark Specter's very first mission.
"Ensign Mark Specter sir, I didn't want to miss the Excalibur," Mark said as he saluted Ephrem and awaited for more orders.
"Nice to meet you Mark, make yourself comfortable on the Excalibur, I will contact you tomorrow to sort everything out, I will be meeting with Captain Ryat today," Ephrem said as he once again made his back to the Excalibur.
"Understood sir, is there anything that you will require?" Mark asked as he followed in step.
"Yes I will need all information regarding the Excalibur's crew especially her senior staff," Ephrem said," it is important that it is kept discreet as well."
"Understood," Mark replied hopelessly trying to get all his orders copied down.
"Sir welcome back to the Excalibur," a security officer said as Ephrem made his way inside the Excalibur," the captain wished she could have been here to welcome you, but she is extremely busy."
"Thank you Lieutenant, I'm glad to see that you have been promoted since I last saw you," Ephrem said with a smile," keep up the good work."
Ephrem was pleased that Aly had not greeted him at the door. It was a waste of a captain's time and energy. The duo parted ways and Ephrem made his way to the bridge. The nervousness that had been with him for the last couple of days began to disappear the closer he got to the bridge. When the lift doors opened, Ephrem took a second to take in the beauty that was the Excalibur once again.
"Captain I'm pleased that you have taken such care of the girl," Ephrem said as he made his presence known on the bridge. He could sense the bridge crew apprehension of having to captains on board.

Zarath sighed to himself, looking down into his tea. The red concoction was the only bit of Andorian culture he had the ability to sample in any recent amount of time, and so he wasn’t looking forward to finishing it. Nevertheless, he stepped up once he heard…that command. Yes, there was going to be yet another boring meeting. Yes, this one was going to be just as pointless as all the others. He genuinely didn’t understand why there were all these different organizational get-togethers…and to make matters worse, they actually specified department heads!
That meant he wasn’t getting out of it by simply assigning Zarok, his Vulcan lab assistant, to the meeting. He actually needed to go in person…what a pain.
Slowly allowing his feet to carry him away, Zareth threw the credit marker behind him to pay for the tea with another exhalation. It landed perfectly on the lunch counter behind him; perhaps those antennas could act like eyes in the back of his head?
Leaning out from underneath the curtain that sectioned off the top of the lunch counter from the busy concourse of the Starbase, he tried to hide his troubles in the anonymity of the sea of moving Starfleet personnel, their families, civilians and tourists. It was, at least, a nice last reprise before the final totality of making it back to the vessel.
Then, reaching up to the pressure plate that released the doors, he reflected back and exhaled once again. As he finally stepped into the turbolift car at the end of the hallway, Thalin knew that something bad was probably afoot. After all, you don’t get called to one of these with a good reason. They aren’t about to go around showing off vacation photos…and even then, he would probably have ended up hating that if it’s the chain of command issuing them. Andorians fought for family; not the office.

Somewhere in deep space, approaching rendezvous with the USS Excalibur
Ambassador Jiana Meroo of the Saltar sat relatively quietly in her shuttle as her pilot took them through space. She was grateful tha these peace talks had finally arrived. She was young for her job and very few of her staff had ever let her forget it. Still at 35 she could remember a time before the conflict although it had dominated most of her life. She was desperate to end the conflict. She hoped that no one screwed it up.
She ran an elegantly manicured hand through her blonde hair. She had no idea who the Tenris were sending on this mission, still most of their senior diplomats were relatively reasonable even if their government was not. It was her own staff which troubled her; while most of them were experienced and undoubtedly stable. Her most junior aide, Nikoli Vendres wasn't. He was young, the only member of team who was younger than her and he was hot head. Jiana was pretty much convinced that he had gotten a place on this mission because he was the Minister of External Affair's nephew. Maybe he was there to report back to his uncle and maybe it was just another example of politicians pulling too many strings; however he had ended up on this mission he could cause trouble. She would have to keep a close eye on him and Nikoli would certainly resent that.

Aly was on the Excalibur bridge and leaning over the navigator's station as Ensign Perez check whether issues with it had been fixed. She was a little nervous and a new assignment to the Excal but she had done very well so far. A small glitch had caused a delay in the calculations for navigation; not critical at the moment but it could cause problems later. It now appeared to be fixed. Ensign Perez started to relax a bit. Aly had a feeling that Marsha Perez would be much calmer once the ship was underway, the wait was telling on all of them. There was also the whole series of small things that had kept Aly hopping.
The lift doors whooshed open behind them and Aly didn't look up. She heard some intakes of breath indicating that whoever had arrived it wasn't whoever they had been expecting.
"Captain I'm pleased that you have taken such care of the girl," Now that was a voice Aly recognised. She turned to see Ephrem Santos on the bridge. She had feared this moment would be awkward but, somehow it wasn't. Aly broke into a big smile.
"Thank-you, Captain. It's good to see you." She held out her hand to him.

Aly's eye's fell on one of the chronometers. "The staff briefing is in 6 minutes if you'd like to accompany me.
The two Captains settled into the conference room, they were still early, and awaited the rest of the crew.

With the nerve-wracking trial finally over, and having been found innocent of being a Romulan spy, even though a notation would go on his record for striking a superior officer, Savin found himself able to enjoy a few days off with his wife and son. Much to his surprise, insofar he showed it, Starfleet also promoted him to Lieutenant Commander. The reasons, however, still baffled him, given he'd just gone through a strenuous trial, which had also left a few scars upon his health.
The Vulcan chief engineer had lost a little weight and he looked paler than usual, even though that was still on the darker scale of his species' average skin-tone. Now that he was finally cleared for duty as well, despite his weight loss, it was time to say goodbye to his family and return to his duties. The ship needed to undergo repairs, and though Starbase Maintenance had taken up a lot of the work while he was unavailable, Savin was eager to get back to work. Of course, he didn't exacty show it.
For everyone to see, Gwen threw her arms around her tall husband's neck and soundly kissed his cheek. Smiling coyly, she ran her fingers through his hair and tucked it back behind his delicately pointed ears. This was a very rare moment when his fellow crewmates would actually see him smile, and be openly affectionate. "Be safe Gwen," he told her, "I love you."
The woman held up the first two fingers of her right hand, which were brushed in a similar fashion. Then she held up the child to him, which earned him a very wet kiss from the boy. "You too Simon, take care of your mother in my absence." Of course, he knew perfectly well that a three-year old half-Vulcan child could not take care of his mother, but it was the sentiment that counted.
Giving him a final kiss, Gwen gathered their son to her and walked away, waving over her shoulder. "Go tend to your beloved engines Savin, I know you're dying to go," she called without looking back, "I'll call when we get home."
The Vulcan stared after them, then straightened the wrap-around tunic he always wore while on duty and headed for the briefingroom. He had read a brief memo that there would be a briefing, and he wasn't going to allow himself to be late. "Lieutenant Commander Savin reporting," he stated gravely, though his cheeks were still mildly flushed from the public embarassment of being kissed.

"I very highly doubt that Captain but please do not fret because even though I'm no longer your commanding officer I will always do anything in my power to keep you safe," Ephrem said wholeheartedly. He had a job to do and he would do it to the best of his abilities, but he would do everything to stay away from the politics of being a Starfleet captain.
The appearance of Ephrem Santos had stopped all work on the bridge and Ephrem couldn't help but notice it. He knew that his arrival would be seen with interest, but he could only hope that this would be a one day thing. As the two captain made their way to the conference room, Ephrem couldn't help but stop as he passed by his former chair. ~I hate to admit it, but I miss the old girl~ Ephrem thought as he quickly regained composure and followed Alyana.
"I see that some things never change," Ephrem said as he took the seat farthest away from Alyana. She would be the center of attention during the briefing. If things turned out like he envisioned they would he would not speak at all.
(Aly)
The little conversation that they were having stopped when Ephrem noticed that Thalin Zarath walked into the briefing room. This brought a huge smile to Ephrem's face.
"Commander I was hoping you were still assigned to the Excalibur," Ephrem said as he stood and greeted the man.
(Thalin)
"Well now that Commander Savin is here and you are here, who else are we missing?" Ephrem asked.

Science Officer’s Log, Supplemental. Warrant Officer Zarok reporting.
I believe that Commander Thalin has already moved to attend the meeting, and I have been left in charge of the Science Department aboard. Though there is little to do at the moment, I believe that the most apropos course of action is to remain vigilant in my duties. I have been overseeing the cleaning of the laboratory facilities and…
The Andorian chuckled a bit, thinking of the last log entry that he heard Zarok making. Considering his Vulcan heritage, the other scientist aboard the Excalibur was indeed the sort of individual to enjoy the most mundane of tasks. That allowed Thalin Zarath to be a bit freer in his other pursuits.
Looking over to Ephrem, he smiled a bit until it flooded back into the same smirk that he had been wearing before.
“Ah, Mister Santos. It’s nice to see that you are still here as well, though I have to admit that I’m a bit curious. After all, where do you think I would have gone?” Once again, the Andorian smirked, “And what exactly did you do to deserve having Starfleet send you back to the scrap heap with us? I honestly thought you’d end up teaching at the Federation Diplomatic Academy on Auralia or something to that effect.”
<tag, Ephrem>
He exhaled a moment looking around before sharing a genuine smile, “You know, though, this isn't half bad at all. I've always expected meetings to be long and boring...it's what I would have expected even back on the Blue Fleet ships serving with the Andorian Chain of Command in Starfleet. Dread boring. Stuffy...even by my species' standards."

"First of all Commander, I would appreciate if you didn't call me mister, my students at the Academy had a habit of doing it and it made me feel really old," Ephrem said with an almost childlike smile," though I have to admit that I'm a bit spooked at the accuracy of your prediction."
(Thalin)
"When I heard of this mission I volunteered for it," Ephrem said quickly. He looked at the officers assembled and tried to show the appreciation he held for them. Even though he had not served on the Excalibur for years, he had always kept tabs on her and the crew," I couldn't resist coming back and experiencing your wit and humor Commander."

"The day you sit on a Vulcan Science conference on the importance of sand density on L type planets, you can talk to me about boring," Ephrem said with an amused smile," this briefing will be a world of exciting compared to that. Plus the person leading the briefing is not bad on the eyes"

"I see that some things never change," Ephrem said as he took the seat farthest away from Alyana. Aly smiled. "I doubt mission briefings have changed much in the last few hundred years. If I find a way to make them interesting then I'll let you know."
Commander Zarath arrived and Ephrem engaged him in conversation. Aly was relived, it gave her a few more moments to collate her thoughts.
Commander Savin arrived, she noted a stronger than usual green tint to his cheeks but said nothing. She gave a small nod of greeting as he entered the room and selected a seat. She was pleased to note that his promotion had come through. He more than deserved it.
"Well now that Commander Savin is here and you are here, who else are we missing?" Ephrem asked.
Aly sighed "This is pretty much it. The Excalibur is once again shipping out low on senior staff." She shook her head and marshalled her thoughts.
"As you have noticed Captain Santos," She looked over at her predecessor. "has returned to us as Diplomatic Officer and Starfleet has assigned us a diplomatic mission"
"We're being sent to transport a pair of ambassadors and their staff to Starbase 18 for a peace conference. We have got to take the the Saltar and the Tenris ambassadors so they don't get caught up in accusations of favouritism." She suppressed an eye roll as she spoke.
"It's only a three day trip to starbase from the rendezvous point. As far as I can see the biggest issue is going to be keeping the two parties occupied and away from each other for the duration. Obviously we'll press the rec deck into service but given the fact that neither the Saltar nor the Tenris have been involved in Starfleet we have been encouraged to show off the Excalibur so that's the bridge, engineering, labs and anywhere else we can think of to show them.
Tag: Any comments...
"Captain," Aly glanced across at Ephrem. "I would like you to arrange a timetable for keeping the two sets of diplmats apart as much as possible.

Vin was sitting in his office going over his notes, he was not crazy about meeting with his opponent from therir sister planet they have been at war with fior quite awhile, but too much time has past and ts time to end hostilities and time for peace has come or both planets will suffer.
"Ambassador, starfleet has sent a message, the USS Excalibur is on its way, will be here in a few days." Stated his chief of staff Ira, Bua.
"Good, I know very little about starfleets captains but I know Earth's history and the name Excalibur has a long history. Ira, you will be coming with me on this trip, I expect it." Vin said.
"It will be a honor my love." She said.
"When this is over, lets be joined, its time I take some time to myself, and spend it with you." Vin said.
"That would be perfect, and just think you cannot get away from me anymore." She said with a smile.

"Captain," Aly glanced across at Ephrem. "I would like you to arrange a timetable for keeping the two sets of diplomats apart as much as possible."
"I tend to agree with those sentiments, but I foresee one of the Ambassador's having a problem with whoever is shown the Excalibur first," Ephrem said," I know its childish but the Saltar will always try to out due the Tenris and vice versa."
(Tag Aly)
"For that reason, I believe that at first it would be imperative to wow them at the same time," Ephrem said as he handed each staff member a data file," both of the Ambassadors are members of their respective royal family. They are not used to be awed and it will remind them that the Federation doesn't need them at all."

With nothing more being said, the captain dismissed the senior staff. Ephrem made sure to take his time, since he wanted to speak with Alyana privately.
"Captain, the Tenris are a very paternalistic race," Ephrem said," the fact that you are a women may not sit well with the Ambassador, but I implore you to stay your ground. The Ambassador might feel rather comfortable treating you like a servant in front of his staff and the crew."

"If there is anything else I will work on a tentative schedule," Ephrem said waiting to be dismissed by the captain of the USS Excalibur.

Aly pursed her lips in response. She had thought about this but had not managed to come to a conclusion. I was good to have some to bounce her ideas off.
"For that reason, I believe that at first it would be imperative to wow them at the same time," Ephrem said as he handed each staff member a data file," both of the Ambassadors are members of their respective royal family. They are not used to be awed and it will remind them that the Federation doesn't need them at all."
"That sounds reasonable, maybe we can tour just the ambassadors together around the bridge and engineering and then take the whole parties around separately.
With nothing more being said, the captain dismissed the senior staff. Ephrem made sure to take his time, since he wanted to speak with Alyana privately.

Aly scuffed the hair out of her eyes She knew it would be easier for her to cope with such an attitude than anyone would suspect; but wasn't likely to make to trip pleasant. Particularly as she knew command was all ready twitchy about her Captaincy but that was due to her age and experience not her gender.
"If there is anything else I will work on a tentative schedule," Ephrem said waiting to be dismissed by the captain of the USS Excalibur.
"Thank-you, I shall let you know before we arrive at our scheduled rendezvous.
*****************************************************
Aly was on the bridge, all was quiet. Helmsman MacIntyre turned to look over his shoulder at her. "Captain, we're 15 minutes from the rendezvous co ordinates. The two shuttles are still holding position." Aly nodded.
"Proceed, Ensign."
She opened a comm link.
"Captain Santos this is Captain Ryat, we are 14 minutes away from rendezvous. Please meet me in transporter room one to welcome our guests."

Aly took another two minutes to remind the other members members of her senior staff that their visitors were arriving and then headed for the transporter room. to greet to soon to be arrivals.

Sometimes being a diplomatic officer really sucked and for Ephrem Santos this was one of those times. Not only did these Ambassador's expect to be treated like they were on their home world, but some of there demands were outrageous.
"Tell the Saltar delegation that there is no chance in hell that we'll be providing them with sexual partners!" Ephrem yelled at his attache, Clark, without really meaning to.
"I understand, I already spoke to them, but they were adamant about it," Clark replied forcefully. He knew that Ephrem screamed and yelled, but it was only out of frustration and it was never directed at them.
"Sorry, Clark, I don't mean to scream, but do they take us for fools," Ephrem asked more of a statement than anything," the answer is no and while it is appropriate on his planet, the Federation will never force anyone to sell their bodies.
"I know but just know that they will not be happy about this," Clark replied as he handed Ephrem the finished itineraries for both delegations," most of all the other demands have been fulfilled and those that have not been finished yet will be done within the hour."
"Good, though we should be arriving at our destination in a few minutes," Ephrem said before he heard the captain's voice.
"Captain Santos this is Captain Ryat, we are 14 minutes away from rendezvous. Please meet me in transporter room one to welcome our guests."
"See, I told you," Ephrem said with a knowing smile. His internal clock was always spot on and Ephrem was ready to face this challenge head on.

Chief engineer though he may be, Savin was also responsible for the transporters. Thus, as they were awaiting their guests, Savin made sure the transporters were working up to par. He had just run his final diagnostics, surprised at the manhandling he'd done to it before when he'd been...
The Vulcan shook his head, not even wanting to be reminded of that episode. It had worked and it would work again. He straighened as both captains entered. "Transporter is functional at optimum capacity ma'am, sir," he reported as he took his place behind the controls. "Ready to beam them up at your order captain."

Vin finished his coffee and one of his aides came in. "Sorry to disturb you, but I was told to let you know when the federation ship had entered the system. The USS Excalibur will be here shortly."
"Thank you T'on, are my adaches here?" Vin asked.
"Yes they are and are waiting outside for you."He said.
"Thank you again, tell them I will be right with them." He said.
Ira walked in with two bags. one each for both of them. Vin got up and joined her. "I hope this works out but you never know with our sister planet."
They walked out and joined the other three, they walked out and headed for where they would be transported to the ship. They entered the room, Vin had never been transported and was scared as well as curious about, he normally took a shuttle if he had to go off planet.
"Ambassador, we have recieved signal from the federation ship and ready for transport." Came the communications officer.
They took their position and the feeling of not being there took him and soon they were in a large room. Vin looked around looking for the leader.
<Alyana>
"Thank you Captain for the warm welcome, I'm ambassador Wolf, this is my closest associate Ira, attaches, doon, m'pr amd lyr." Vin said with a slight bow.

Having already met the Ambassador on many previous occasions, Ephrem stayed silent as the Captain Ryat introduced herself to the Ambassador. Ephrem knew how important it was to show that Alyana Ryat was the in charge on the Excalibur. Once the introductions had taken place, Ephrem greeted the man he would be working closely for the foreseeable future.
"I do hope these talks are better than the ones on Risa," Ephrem said as he approached the Ambassador," on the Excalibur there won't be those kind of distractions. Once the others arrive we will begin working immediately."
(Vin)
"I know you will try to out due your counterpart, but I'm here to make sure all parties come out of these talks with something valuable," Ephrem said as he looked at the Diplomatic aides. An Ambassador's aides were like family, and they carried a lot of influence.
(Vin)
"Once they arrive, we will tour main engineering," Ephrem said," you will finally see how much your people will gain if you stop this war. I know that you have never seen anything like it and our chief engineer is going to make sure that your socks are blown away."
(Vin)
OOC: Savin, I have something in mind to get you more involved. Your engines will be tampered with and people will be hurt. It would be up to you to discover who the culprit is. This is just an idea, we can talk more about it privately if you want. Also if the captain agrees.

Alyana was doing her best not to fidgit in the transporter room. They had finally got names for the ambassadors but that had been seconds before the transport request came in. The two groups arrived on the transporter pad at the same moment. It was obvious who the two ambassadors were. One was male and one was female. The man was the fastest off the mark. He looked at the assembled officers. Alyana took half a pace forward and gave a slight bow. "Greetings Ambassadors. I am Captain Alyana Ryat and I welcome you aboard the USS Excalibur. This is Captain Santos my diplomatic officer and Commander Savin my chief engineer." She indicated the other officers present. "Thank you Captain for the warm welcome, I'm ambassador Wolf, this is my closest associate Ira, attaches, doon, m'pr amd lyr." Vin said with a slight bow. So that was the Tenris ambassador... as he finished speaking the woman spoke up. "And I am Ambassador Jiana Meroo." The woman glared slightly at her counterpart. It seemed she'd wanted to get the first word in. She straightened and continued. "I also thank you for your warm welcome and present my assistant Felas Verant and aides Ria Telis, Seli Verant and Nikoli Vendres Alyana took in the Saltarn ambassadorial party, she'd noted the repeating surname, the facial resemblence suggested siblings but now wasn't the time to enquire. She nodded formally to both ambassadors. "I am sure you are both in need of rest. Ambassador Meroo, Captain Santos will escort you to your quarters. Ambassador Wolf, I will show you to your quarters." She allowed Santos and his party to leave the transporter room first just to avoid a crush in the doorway. Aly moved towards Savin. "I fully expect both ambassadors will have a list of evironmental requirements. Pease do your best to accomodate them and get Commander Zarath to help you." She kept her voice low and quiet relying on the her CEO's superior hearing for the communication with out alerting the ambassadors. Tag: Savin (if you wish to add anything) Outside the transporter room she led Ambassador Wolf towards a lift. Tag: Wolf A while later they reached the rooms that had been reserved for the party from Tenris. Aly opened the door and allowed the others to enter. She waited their comments. Tag: *************************************************** So this was a Federation Starship... it seemed awfully clinical. Jiana was still mentally berating herself for allowing Ambassador Wolf to speak first. Appearances counted for a lot here. She didn't know much about him but no doubt her government would fill her in. Conversly he couldn't know that much about her. She wondered if that Captain might be a sympathetic ear. She seemed young and in command, she would understand the difficulties...
She introduced her staff formally and in strict seniority order. No doubt Nikoli would have something to say about that later, he would certainly believe his family name entitled him to be further up the order.
She accompanied Captain Santos out of the transporter room. They were leaving first but the Tenris were being accompanied by the ship's captain. Jiana scored that as one all. However that still put Wolf one ahead from being the first to speak. She had ground to make up.
She looked at Captain Santos and found him quite hard to read. "Captain, i don't know how much you have been told about the Saltar, but we come from a very beautiful planet." She noted the slight change in his expression, no doubt he thought she was starting on a recruitment speech.
Tag: Ephrem
She smiled. "What I'm tryinag to say Captain is that there is a unique combination of gases in our atmosphere and while we are fine with out exposure for a while it is exhausting. I would prefer it if the atmosphere in our quarters could be tuned to Saltar normal."
Tag: Ephrem
"So tell me more about yourself and this ship."
Tag: Ephrem*************************************************** Nikoloi was far from impressed. Ambassador Meroo was obviously not giving him his due still he would ensure that he got credit for this and if he could do it in a way that made her look bad that would be all the better. There would be no need for this negotiation if the government weren't so weak. If the nobles were back in power things would be different. If the Tenris had surrended things would be different... They still could be. I'd like to keep Jiana but if anyone else wishes to play with Nikoli or any of the other Saltar ambassadorial party members by all means have them

"First of all Commander, I would appreciate if you didn't call me mister, my students at the Academy had a habit of doing it and it made me feel really old," Ephrem said with an almost childlike smile," though I have to admit that I'm a bit spooked at the accuracy of your prediction." The Anodrian snickered. That was a rare thing in and of itself, for after all, Andorians were not usually known for their sense of humor. “I am shocked that I actually got that spot on. I cannot believe that you went around teaching with…those birdmen. Are the Aurelians not, essentially, giant avians?” "When I heard of this mission I volunteered for it," Ephrem said quickly. He looked at the officers assembled and tried to show the appreciation he held for them. Even though he had not served on the Excalibur for years, he had always kept tabs on her and the crew," I couldn't resist coming back and experiencing your wit and humor Commander." “Now now,” Zarath responded, “We all know that I run quite a tight post.” Of course, the fact that the entire science department usually involved a much softer Zarath than he usually liked to let on. "The day you sit on a Vulcan Science conference on the importance of sand density on L type planets, you can talk to me about boring," Ephrem said with an amused smile," this briefing will be a world of exciting compared to that. Plus the person leading the briefing is not bad on the eyes" “Sand density on class L planets? I gave my master’s thesis on class L sand density.” This, however, wasn’t a joke, and the Andorian stared right through him. |||| She smiled. "What I'm tryinag to say Captain is that there is a unique combination of gases in our atmosphere and while we are fine with out exposure for a while it is exhausting. I would prefer it if the atmosphere in our quarters could be tuned to Saltar normal." Zarath started to stand slowly, “If I might speak on behalf of my esteemed colleague, that should not be too difficult. I was telling him before that I preformed my Master’s dissertation on sand densities. My knowledge of atmospheric data truly is unparalleled, I assure you. As there are several different climates in different areas of the planet, may I ask as to which you are most accustomed? OOC: I apologize for the delay involved in this post! Thank you for being understanding! I hope you like Zarath’s choice of topic for his thesis

Vin recognized another man, Ephrem Santos, they had met before on several occasions, he knew the mans reputation and thought of him as a good friend.
"I do hope these talks are better than the ones on Risa," Ephrem said as he approached the Ambassador," on the Excalibur there won't be those kind of distractions. Once the others arrive we will begin working immediately."
Vin smiled. "I have to agree with you on that one Ephrem, Risa was an interesting place to say the least and I agree we should get started as soon as possible.
"I know you will try to out due your counterpart, but I'm here to make sure all parties come out of these talks with something valuable," Ephrem said as he looked at the Diplomatic aides. An Ambassador's aides were like family, and they carried a lot of influence.
"I have to be honest my friend, as I have gotten older I more prefer to try and work things out then try to out do someone." Vin stated.
<Ephrem>
"Once they arrive, we will tour main engineering," Ephrem said," you will finally see how much your people will gain if you stop this war. I know that you have never seen anything like it and our chief engineer is going to make sure that your socks are blown away."
"I have to agree with you, from just what I have seen of this room, its indeed a work of engineering." Vin stated.
Vin and his associates followed the captain out, he had ignored the look from his counterpart he felt a little bit proud that he took the lead instead of waiting. The captain led them to a lift and it took them to their guest quarters, they entered and looked around the temperature was perfect.
"Captain these quarters make our apartments look tiny. The only thing I'm not sure about is food, I can eat federation food and so can Ira but my associates have a hard time with it." Vin stated.

Alyana quietly bit her lip as he began what she had the feeling would be the first of many complaints. The quarters on the Excalibur were fairly generous given the ships size and crew complement. As he didn't actually come out and demand a change in quarters she skipped over that comment in favour of the second complaint, it would certainly be serious if one or most of the ambassador's became ill as a result of food they could not tolerate then there would certainly be problems.
"I will have someone from the galley come up and consult with you on what would be more appropriate"

When the conversation was over Aly took a moment to step to one side and contact the galley. Chief/Chef Bristow was on his way up and would no doubt sort the food issues out.
"If you are all content to get settled and have no further questions." Aly knew she was laying herself open to a very long list if they wanted to reel it off for her "I shall return to the bridge. I shall be back in a hour to begin your tour of the ship."

Ambassador Meroo had apparently been feeling tired and had put herself to bed which left Nikoloi with a free rein to do whatever he wanted. They had been provided with a plan of the ship it was pretty big but it should be quite easy to navigate. He knew he would most likely be spotted if he just walked into main engineering, so he had to go somewhere else. Besides he had to be subtle. He had to ensure these starfleeters thought the Tenris were responsible and then these talks would be over before they had begun and the Saltar could finally take control of things.
Nikoloi found a small access panel and pried it open. He had come prepared knowing that the 'ambassador' did not have to stomach for doing what needed to be done. If he had understood the schematic correctly then this was a power distribution junction that controlled about half a deck. He fired up a small laser cutter that was of Tenris manufacture and set to work. He hacked at everything in the junction box and was gratified when the lights around him dimmed and the gravity lurched a little.
He dumped the cutter and then walked off back to the quarters they had been assigned.
Tag: Savin (I'll let you decide how much damage he managed to do), Thalin/Ephrem you guys are stuck with the investigation.

(I have absolutely no idea what's going on though....so I guess I'll make the damage extensive...)
"Savin you'd better get to engineering!"
The voice of his Andorian assistant sounded urgent enough for Savin to cease grooming his cat and walk to his desk. "Savin here, what is it lieutenant? You are, I presume, aware that I am off duty?" He frowned when his acute senses detected a fault in gravity. It was less than Earth normal and from what he could tell, it was also decreasing. "Thelev, is there a problem with gravity?"
"Yes sir, gravity is decreasing on deck one and two, but that's the least of our concerns sir. You'd better get down here as fast as you can." The Andorian sounded positively worried now.
"Report," the Vulcan all but snapped as he pulled on his uniform tunic and tied the sash around his waist. He preferred the loose fitting tunic over the other variants, though he never could explain why, other than them being more comfortable. Off-duty, he tended to wear flowing black or white robes, depending on whether he was about to go to combat practice, or meditation.
"I...rather wouldn't over the comm sir," Thelev replied, "this reeks of sabotage, sir."
"I am on my way." Sabotage; it brought a very bad taste to the Vulcan's mouth, especially when not so long ago he was the cause of some very serious breaches in that area. Thus, these days he took the security of engineering and it's systems more than seriously. And if Thelev was worried and called him during his off hours, then it must be bad. The Vulcan chief engineer charged through the corridors, finding it difficult to gain speed with the lowered gravity, but speeding nonetheless. He dodged a few passing crewmembers, barely touching them as he went by. Not even panting for breath and barely having broken any sweat, the semi-dark skinned Vulcan charged into engineering. "Report!" he called out, though the warning lights that caught his attention were information enough. "Shut down the core!" he ordered as he raced towards the nearest control unit. "Thelev, inform security, while I assist in shutting down."
Thelev nodded and walked towards the CEO's office, urgency still in his voice as he contacted the bridge and gave them the bad news. Meanwhile, Savin and several engineers worked hard to shut down the warp core, but the damage was already done. Gas had been released from a malfunctioning valve, and had escaped through the air vents. What was worse, the radiation was such, that anyone in engineering was now quarantined until cleared to leave by a medical officer. Savin knew his exposure was minimal since he'd only just gotten here, so he confined himself to his office to keep the damage to a minimum. "Captain Ryat, I regret to inform you that until medical and security have cleared us, that engineering is a quarantined area. Please inform the ambassador that I Regret having to postpone the promised tour of engineering until further notice. Unless he agrees to wearing a hazmat suit, engineering is off-limits." He paused. "Captain, I suspect sabotage. Security will have to investigage, however you have my word that this time, it was not me." Unfortunately, Caelir could not provide an alibi, though he knew ship sensors could, provided internal sensors were not compromised as well.

Getting stuck with an investigation was not necessarily a bad thing for the Andorian scientist. After all, it wasn't all that long ago that he had been bragging about his master's thesis on the sand density of Class L planets. That being said, he wasn't necessarily sure that this was going to be quite as interesting, but it could hold his attention long enough to get through the task at least, he was sure. Not to say that he was one to neglect his work if he found it uninteresting of course, but then again, what was uninteresting to a stalwart Andorian?
However, there was a bit of information on his computer that would provide him with a sidetrack for the time being. The Engineering decks were, again, stuck in a massive tizzy that apparently required a request to keep everyone away from them.
That being said, he realized that the term 'hazardous materials' usually referred to what Terrans would consider pollutants; while he did not at this point realize Savin and Thelev's concern, he assumed that being an Andorian, he should very well join whatever efforts were commencing on those lower decks.
Of course, that technically required him to disobey orders and take things into his own hands, but he hardly assumed that anyone would actually fault him for doing so. After all, how many times had he done that already, only to later have Captain Ryat commend him for doing so? Commander Zarath wasn't going to be one to let that get in his way.
Before he left the quarters he had been working in, he briefly considered changing into a protective garment. However, he felt that would just limit his movement; the padded grayish-brown Starfleet issue hazard vest, however, provided some extra protection that he was happy to have.
Moreover, it was something he already had on hand in his room; he would have had to go elsewhere to pick up a protective suit. As soon as he moved into the turbolift, he disabled the safety locks and allowed himself to be transported down into the engineering decks. It was sad, but the "exciting" investigation was going to have to wait until later to be worked on.
Stepping out onto the engineering deck, he exhaled - breathing wasn't necessarily going to be quite so easy here so he might as well do it right while he could.

Aly had just gotten back to her quarters afters some hastily swallowed plomeek soup. She was hoping that she would be able to catch some sleep before escorting the Saltar on their next tour. She loved her ship but this was starting to get ridiculous. Still it was only supposed to be another day and then they could off load their guests. She imagined that everyone's tempers were starting to wear thin.
She set her communicator on her bedside table and was peeling her tunic off when the communicator chirped at her. She dropped the tunic to the floor and picked up the communicator almost fumbling it in tired fingers. [color=White "Captain Ryat, I regret to inform you that until medical and security have cleared us, that engineering is a quarantined area. Please inform the ambassador that I Regret having to postpone the promised tour of engineering until further notice. "What's happened Commander?" Aly knew that the Excalibur hadn't been shot at and she hadn't felt any explosions, whatever his response was Aly knew she wasn't going to like it. He paused. "Captain, I suspect sabotage. Security will have to investigate, however you have my word that this time, it was not me."
"I do not doubt you Commander. You concentrate on getting things sorted down there. What damage are we looking at? Do you know where the sabotage occurred?"
Tag: Savin
****************************************************
Aly had grabbed a coffee and a clean tunic and put herself back on duty. As soon as Savin had informed her that the origin point of the damage was on the same deck as the diplomatic delegations, she had known that things were going to be complicated. Security personnel had put the damaged junction block under guard and each of the ambassadorial suites was also under guard. Fortunately neither of the ambassadors had noticed yet.
With most of the engineering personnel suck in engineering or sickbay Aly had assigned Commander Zarath to oversee the technical aspect of the investigation and Captain Santos was in charge of interviewing the diplomatic teams. While she was trying to co ordinate everything and hoping that they'd be able to get underway again soon.
