"Understood, Commander," Ghes said across the ready room desk. He grimaced at the lights; it didn't impress him but he knew there was nothing the engineer could do, it just surprised the Captain that the overload had caused a wobble in the power matrix this far up the ship.
"Keep working on it," he said smiling as the engineer was on his way out the door, "I'll put in some calls to Temporal Investigations to get them to fill you in on some of the more difficult concepts if you like."
The door slid shut, leaving Captain Gheskori alone in his ready room. He took interest in the half full cup of coffee on the other side of the desk. He picked it up in his slender grasp, sniffing tentatively, and then threw the contents back in one.
After nearly retching, he walked around to the replicator and ordered a glass of near-freezing water. What materialised was certainly not what he'd asked for.
'A bio-neural gel pack?' he mouthed, lifting the glowing information storage component into the light. He tapped his commbadge with his free hand, "Commander Walters... It seems the power overload has affected the replicator system. Could you please find some time to investigate?"
<Walters>
He set himself on the door of the ready room, reaching it only for it to open early and leave Commander Matthew standing there, wondering why his Captain was carrying a bioneural gel pack.
"Commander..." Ghes hurriedly turned and threw the pack on to his desk, it slid across and slapped on the floor under his chair. "Never mind, never mind. You have something to report?" he asked the stolid Commander.
Matthew handed him his padd and explained as Ghes read through it. The Captain was impassive, raising an eyebrow only slightly as he reached the piece's conclusion. "I see... Well, a micro-explosive would explain why it wasn't detected by Federation standard scans. You believe there is more to this?"
"I'd like you to do some more research on this Mr Bragg," Ghes said, "Find out his past associations, especially in regards to this group he may be a part of. Liaise with Starfleet Security. Keep an open mind, though, Commander. If he's truly only a suspect there could be other explanations."
<Matthew>
He and Matthew returned to the bridge, the former requesting a report.
"We're six hours from Harlequin outer system perimeter, sir," the officer of the watch reported, "All systems nominal with the exception of the power surge. No temporal anomalies or events. However, probability of incursion is rising as we get closer to the system."
Ghes acknowledged and virtually slumped into his chair, deep in thought. It wasn't the possibility of temporal disaster that had him worried for once - although being wiped from history remained an unsavoury prospect - rather it was how the Enzio would find the tactical situation in the Harlequin system. The fight between the neighbouring worlds, one inhabited by humanoids, the other insectoids... Both were neck-deep in matters of temporal warfare, both wouldn't hesitate if a chance to annihilate the other side arose... Ghes wasn't sure the Enzio was equipped to handle the particular nature of the conflict it was heading into.
There were some things beyond mortal control, and that included the enigmatic and intricate nature of spacetime, but Ghes knew the crew would perform to the best of their ability. "Tiana, Saryn, report your activity," he said almost grumpily into the intercom.

The Enzio had arrived at the Harlequin system. Nothing had seemed out of the ordinary thus far... They had avoided being caught in any wave of rewritten history. This might mean that there had been no temporal incursions precipitated by the two Harlequin races, or that they were merely getting lucky... Ghes didn't like that second possibility. He briefly considered holding here and waiting for command's impending communication. He hadn't yet received feedback from Burke on his report about what happened at the outpost. Instead of rushing in blind, Ghes preferred to be entirely up to date. "Sir, detecting large energy discharges in Harlequin 2's direction, the insectoids' world," an officer reported. "The readings are consistent with massive surface detonations." Ghes stood from the CO's chair and tugged down on his shirt... glancing at Commander Matthew. If there had been any doubt of the danger they were heading into, it was now utterly and unequivocably quashed. "Helm, take us into a wide elliptical orbit of Harlequin 2 and begin signalling the insectoid government that we've arrived. Everyone on full alert. Anything out of the ordinary, especially if it concerns temporal events, contact me immediately." He left the bridge, a yeoman in tow, his mind awash with the nuances and developing complexities of this situation. It was only so complex, if one took serious consideration of what had happened on the Beta Hydra Outpost. He'd given thought to Commander Matthew's findings... If Jerrod Bragg's actions had been a result of coercion, then there was something to be investigated beyond it that could have a link to the Enzio's mission. Ghes was not sure how such a thing was possible at first glance - given that the Harlequin peoples didn't currently use warp - but it was strange that the Enzio had been specifically targeted, after it'd arrived to procure what was known all over the station to be illegal equipment. The light-level in his quarters was low, static with the occasional flicker from his personal console, laying strobing colour across the side of the Denobulan's face and down the dark fabric of his uniform. Streaming text and interactive images slid down his padd screen, the numerous entries of persons named John Morton efficiently summarised for him. He had nothing, only hoped Commander Matthew could shed a bit more light on this. He had put the acting XO in touch with someone in Starfleet Security, whom might let him see better into the case, and perhaps identify if or how it linked to their mission. Saryn called from sickbay, informing the Captain that the medical supplies had been made ready for potential transport. Walters and Galwyn Cet also reported readiness, the latter stating she'd make her way up to the bridge from the science labs. Ghes smiled and thanked his officers. Their path through the negotiations ahead was a haze of uncertainty, but he felt confident that his crew were up to it. He'd been heading back to the bridge, making for his ready room, when the call had came. The humanoids (from Harlequin 1, the planet they weren't now orbiting) had been attempting to make contact. That wispy, mysterious world, wracked with temporal instability after the insectoids' latest attempted historical genocide. Ghes knew not what they'd find there, or indeed who... For any communication from it was temporally randomised... It could be coming from the past, the present or future, anywhere along that furtive spectrum of causal events. <This last bit TBC> <Tag All for the previous bits in the post >

JP William Walters & Saryn/Savin
Back on the ship, Saryn wasn’t exactly happy with the captain’s orders. Illegal medication was illegal medication, and should not be stored either in the cargo bay or in sickbay. In the Vulcan’s opinion, it should be destroyed. For a few hours now, he had been pondering about it while he ran his shift in sickbay. Savin was working close by and he could practically sense his father’s anger and frustration. Yet, he had been unable to get the man to talk about what had happened. So, he tapped his combadge. “Commander Walters, please report to sickbay.”
Down below in the bowels of Main Engineering, Will looked up from the “pool table” in surprise. “Did something happen to Crewman Siler?” When the Vulcan didn’t respond at first he snapped his fingers. “Right, can’t hear the comm...” he muttered, then punched out a text message.
Seeing the message on his PADD, Savin suppressed a smile. “Negative commander, I sent him back on duty approximately an hour ago with a stern warning to be more careful. Please, report to sickbay it is important.”
Curious, Will waved down H’riss. “On my way.” Turning to the Caitian, “I need to run up to Sickbay. Try to keep the temporal shield running until I get back.”
The big cat chuckled. “No promises.” Will laughed as well and was riding the turbolift a minute later.
Looking concerned, Savin met his friend halfway across sickbay. “What happened on the station?” he asked, certain that Will had been near his father or would at least know what had happened. “He will not speak with me, but I can tell he is angry over something.”
“I don’t know. I was on the ship trying to get our temporal shields online. All I know is that there was an explosion that destroyed a section of the station and peppered us with debris. I know that we had teams looking for supplies but that’s about it. I haven’t been able to do much outside of engineering for the past day.”
“Would you talk to him? Something happened, and he will not tell me.” The younger Vulcan looked concerned as he gestured towards his father. “I get the feeling he does not think it is of any concern to me, but I can tell it bothers him, whatever happened.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” Will promised, then looked back at Savin. “So were you able to get Siler his hair back before you released him?”
“I did not provide follicle stimulating treatment,” Savin deadpanned, “it will teach him to be more careful, I hope. He will have to live with being partly bald for a little while. I have a patient to return to. My father just disappeared into his office.” He gestured towards the quickly retreating older Vulcan.
Will laughed. “We can hope so. I’ll catch up with you later.” He gave the Vulcan a small slap on the back and went over to the office, knocking on the frame. “Doc Saryn?”
“Commander Williams,” Saryn acknowledged, “what brings you to sickbay, are you ill?”
“No, but I heard that something’s bothering you.” Will stepped in and sat down in one of the chairs. “Sickbay too chilly again?”
“Somewhat,” the Vulcan replied, taking a seat as well. “Captain Gheskori wants me to take an inventory of the medications we have taken on board from the station. He ordered me to take them on board, and keep them.” Anger touched his eyes as he regarded the chief engineer. “They are illegal, unsafe and should be destroyed!”
That took the human aback. “What kind of illegal? Bio-mimetic gel illegal or Romulan ale illegal?”
“I do not know what bio-memetic gel is. But these medications are unsafe and dangerous if spread. They should be destroyed, not catalogued and put up for sale anyway. Gheskori intends to distribute them, regardless of the dangers involved! I have half a mind to destroy them anyway, it is unethical and highly dangerous. I want no part of this.”
Will thought about it in silence for a few moments. “Well, we are meeting two new species, both of which are not Federation members and as far as I know, have never been approached before. Maybe the medications that are dangerous to us are critical for their survival?”
“Undoubtful that the federation would send medications that are dangerous to us, but it is not just that they are dangerous. They are illegally manufactured, transported and distributed. There has been no control over these batches, it is unsafe to use them, for anyone. And I do not understand why Gheskori demands that I keep them, and that I allow their distribution to a species we know nothing about. As a doctor, I cannot and will not be part of that. I would sooner destroy them, and provide proper medical care to all that need it. Friend, or enemy alike!”
“I understand the need for proper production controls, I have to pay attention to them too. But down in engineering we have back-up procedures for non-standard parts. Couldn’t you take some time to check those supplies out, see if they would work or not?”
“Negative, they are illegally produced and their use is also illegal. I will not be responsible for the consequences if these are delivered to a species we know nothing about. I want them out of my sickbay and off the ship. Preferably, destroyed.” The Vulcan seemed very unwilling to bend on the subject, and his anger and frustration were visible.
Will leaned forward, resting folded hands on the desk. “Saryn, look at it from my point of view: sometimes we have to use parts that don’t meet the usual standards. Granted, thanks to the replicator I can make most of what I need, but I still keep spares in the cargo bay and keep a list of possible alternatives. I have protocols in place to acquire, test, and install procured technology that might be harmless, or could be quite harmful. These are all protocols that have been developed since some pretty crazy events in the middle of this century, and if I remember my history correctly, the Starfleet of your original era had to work with such ‘questionable’ technology quite regularly. Surely the medical system has similar protocols as well.”
“No it has not. Medications do not get used without thorough testing. It is first tested in vitro, then on test animals and finally when it passes inspections on people. It takes years and these medications have not passed any inspection, they are not Federation approved. I cannot sanction their distribution until Starfleet Medical approves them. And if Gheskori allows this, then he is as bad as those that fabricated them. I want no part of it, I will not touch them.” Why couldn’t Walters see his point? “This has nothing to do with questionable technology, this has to do with ethics and the safety of any patient!”
“Saryn...” Walters kept his voice calm and level. “you’re forgetting that just like you I have to follow a code of ethics and the safety of everyone on this ship is my primary responsibility. I can’t speak to Starfleet Medical’s standards, that’s not my area, but they’re staffed with smart people. There has to be some reason why the usual regulations are being waived here. My guess is that it has something to do with the very unique situation we’re in.”
“This is hardly unique. We know nothing about these species. It is like giving honey to an infant, it is highly dangerous!” The Vulcan was raising his voice now, and it carried well across sickbay, his expression starting to take on hints of fury.
“Calm down Saryn.” Will glanced out of the office door, wondering if anyone was looking. “There’s nothing more unnerving to people than an emotional Vulcan. Why not just test a few samples, see what the results are? That can’t take too much time. Besides, Starfleet sickbays are supposed to be able to approve new treatments, it’s part of exploring the unknown.”
“They are not legal, I will not endorse illegal medications.” Saryn gritted his teeth, trying to curb his feeling of fury before it got the better of him.
“Then get the captain down here to explain. Since you’re the chief medical officer you have that right. Or at least get the orders in writing so that the responsibility rests with him.”
“I may have to do that.” He gestured towards sickbay. “Take Savin, go and find something...entertaining to do. I will call the captain down.”
“Wish I could, but these shields are fussier than a newborn. Good luck with the captain though.”
Saryn nodded, then raised his hand and tapped his combadge. “Captain Gheskori, report to sickbay.”

Commander Matthew Quarters
Beep-Beep-Beep
“Cmdr Matthew sat up as he heard his personal console alerting him to an incoming subspace message. As he approached it he noticed the familiar Starfleet Intelligence logo on the screen. He tapped the button to activate the message and saw the face of a man who identified himself as Captain Reese from Starfleet Intelligent Sector 3.
"Sorry to wake you, Commander, Captain Reese Said but we in the intelligent service never Sleep I been reading over your Beta Hydra outpost After incident report I see you have Attach a request for Any new information on this case to be forward to you as it was available
‘So Commander here what we have found out so far I do Agree with some your findings we do believe the ENZIO was not the Original target of the explosion
“I have just received word of an incident involving an Aeolian Freighter along the trade route near Galorndon Core her dissention was beta hydra outpost she was schedule to be dock in the same Berth where the Enzio was Commander so when she didn’t arrive as schedule the Enzio was given her berth. In steed
“The Science Vessel USS South wind was en-root to the Beta Hydra Quadrant when they received a distress signal coming from the Freighter.
“When they arrived there was no one left alive, The Freighter was on a classified mission due to the Cargo that was missing and the Battle damage to the Freighter the Captain of the South wind fear foul play, but being a Science vessel they are not equipped to mount this type of an investigation. So they Toke her in toe to the beta Hydra station arriving three days After the Enzio left
“The Freighter was on a classified mission due to the Cargo that was missing and the Battle damage what the Freighter Cargo was is classified I can’t talk about
I realize that The ENZIO is on a Diplomatic mission right now but we need for you to just snoop around you may come across something I have confidence in you Commander and Pleases report your findings to me . Do you agree Commander?" Captain Reese kept his steady stare.
"I agree Captain, I will pass this Information on to Captain Ghes ", Commander Matthew replied returning his own steady stare.
"Very well, official orders are being sent as we speak just joking Commander as far as we are concern this Communication never happen. I'll look forward to reading your report, Commander Reese out".
“The screen returned to the Starfleet Command logo and James wondered why this had been assigned to him. Surely there were Starfleet Intelligence Field Agents with more experience to handle this assignment. He had a feeling the Captain wasn't telling all he knew, but then Starfleet Intelligence never do.
After showering and putting on a clean uniform, James headed for the Bridge.

The viewscreen displayed only an off grey, interspersed with periodic static. Ghes looked about him, seeking an explanation. He had a vague idea but wanted it explained to him properly. He imagined when the static burst through a temporary connection had been made.
"The transceiver can't lock on to a frequency, sir. The phase of the signal from the planet has been randomised."
"I see..." he murmured. Large areas of the planet's surface were in a state of temporal flux, some showing the future, some the past, and constantly changing as the mechanism that the insectoid half of the Harlequin species' had unleashed continued to work its 'magic' on the world. There were any number of permutations of what might happen to a message relayed from the surface.
"Measure the fluctuations over the next hour," he ordered, looking about the bridge, "And deduce the most stable pockets on the surface. Then try to transmit a message to those locations. Hopefully we will get a response that we can deal with." He rubbed his temples, feeling a migraine coming on.
=/\= Captain Gheskori, report to sickbay. =/\=
Curious timing, he thought. =/\= On my way, Saryn. =/\=
He reached sickbay and found the vulcan Doctor there waiting for him. This didn't have the feeling of a medical check up. "Doctor, what's this about?"
Saryn began to explain slowly and methodically his misgivings regarding the medical supplies. As he needled his way through each point, Ghes got the impression that the Doctor was working hard to control his voice. In a vulcan, that was usually a sign that they felt passionately about their topic.
Once he'd concluded Ghes began to pace back and forth, folding his arms and tapping his lip pensively. He regarded sickbay, the staff hard at work, thinking of the ethics these men and women had to live by, as part of their oaths as practitioners. "Doctor, I have no choice. These are my orders. If there was a more ethical alternative to the tools we've been given to negotiate with these people I wouldn't hesitate."
He turned away again, very briefly, gathering his thoughts. This was a tricky subject he hadn't had too much time to devote to since they'd left Starbase. It stunned him that Saryn thought he was as guilty as the distributors, but he managed to keep his cool for now. "What would you like from me, Doctor? Would you agree that the Federation is a progressive force in the quadrant? Sometimes, for the greater good, we must overlook our stricter moral guidelines to help those in need."
<Tag Saryn, anywhere>
Moving ahead, but leaving space for Saryn above...
Ghes had returned to the bridge after the sickbay encounter... He'd found James Matthew waiting for him. "Commander? You look like you have something to say," he said, taking James's place in the command seat. The viewscreen showed a tactical display of the system; the two inhabited worlds, the asteroid belt and the outer planetoid.

Tiana did what she could for Hetty, fortunately the woman's injury had been limited to a scalp laceration caused by the remains of a wine glass. It was messy but not dangerous. Hetty was badly shaken up so most of Tiana's action had been hand holding. She had made it back to the Enzio in time although she was one of the last ones to return. She was blood spattered and spared a moment to change into a clean outfit before getting back to work.
While she was in her quarters she noticed that her message light was flickering. She checked the message details as she dressed. She did not recognise the sending address but the name of the sender made her freeze Havan Ren, her older brother. He had tried to contact her via their parents after she had been joined but they hadn't spoken since before Tiana had left for the academy and then it had been angry words. Tiana had always understood where her brother was coming from but he had not seen her point of view at all. As far as Haven was concerned Tiana had ruined her life first by delaying her joining as a 19 year old and then by turning her back on the Symbiosis Commission as a 25 year old and he had not been shy about telling her so.
Tiana had no idea why her had personally contacted her, especially after all this time, there might have been an accident or something back on Trill but even then she would expect one of her parent's friends to contact her. Besides which, if the address was to be believed her brother wasn't on Trill, wasn't even in the sector in fact but then he was part of a roving diplomatic corp so he could end up anywhere.
She couldn't deal with that right now. What ever Haven wanted could wait until Tiana had finished her shift and the latest batch of experiments and settled down with a cup of something soothing.
The main science lab was a hive of activity when Tiana arrived. The Captain paged her for a report, there were a few preliminary numbers in but nothing conclusive. There was a lot more to do. In the technical sense temporal flux was chaotic, small changes in the initial set up led to large changes in the final state... There was much to do.

"What would you like from me, Doctor? Would you agree that the Federation is a progressive force in the quadrant? Sometimes, for the greater good, we must overlook our stricter moral guidelines to help those in need."
Grimfaced, Saryn just glared at him before turning his back. He would not put aside his ethics and morals for the sake of anyone. He only looked back when he was sure Gheskori had departed sickbay. Of course he would help those that were in need, without a doubt he would and without regard to his own life. But he would not resort to methods that were deemed illegal, unsafe or unfit for use. He just would not!
The Vulcan looked around sickbay and caught his son staring at him. Quietly, he shook his head, indicating the younger man should not get involved. He grabbed the nearest supply of the illegal vials and hurled it against the wall with all the force he could muster. It made contact with a loud crash, glass splinters and fluids splashing about everywhere. Except for one or two vials, which came away unscathed and rolled under a nearby cabinet.
Like this, Saryn went through every single box of supply that was in sickbay, before making his way down to the cargobay, where he went through specific containers like a madman, destroying only that which he came to destroy. Again, some vials rolled away unseen, but about 99% of it was destroyed as he raged through it.
Those who tried to stop him, were forcefully pushed away, or effectively rendered unconscious by means of a well placed nerve pinch. Once he was done, he went back to his quarters and discarded his glass covered and stained uniform, to replace it with fresh off-duty clothes.
Saryn was tired, and he needed sleep now. The day had been long, and filled with argument; he needed some time for himself.

"I see, Commander." Ghes took his seat in the centre chair, the furore with Saryn temporarily forgotten. "Starfleet have arrived at Beta Hydra?" Matthew responded affirmative. The USS Alaska and two support vessels had arrived at Beta Hydra Outpost as part of a relief effort for the beleaugered station. They had also taken control of the freighter that had been delivered to the Outpost by the USS South Wind. As the Acting XO informed Ghes, Starfleet were remaining curiously tightlipped, and it must've been to do with Intelligence. What was clear was that the Alaska had needed to seize the freighter on its arrival. With the South Wind's departure, non-Federation civilians had moved in and secured the freighter and its cargo. Apparently the Alaska had interrupted a transport operation from the freighter to the station. Ghes wondered if it had to do with more illegal supplies, but that was very much in doubt, if Starfleet were taking such an interest at this stage. They'd already established the use of illegal medicines... This might well be something new. The Enzio was now in a close orbit of the humanoid world. There was nothing visually odd about the planet, which was odd in itself considering the temporal fluctuations that were tearing its causal timeline to shreds. "How could anyone live down there...? he mused. "Well, sir, they probably aren't aware that they're moving through different time periods. They'll segue through epochs from a relative standpoint, not being aware of their shift in the timeline. Unless they're at the boundaries of a temporal region where time flows faster or slower, or is in a whole other era..." "Hmm.." Time travel had never been Gheskori's strong point. He glanced at the Ops operator, "How is the scan on those pockets of stability coming? How long before we can attempt to contact the surface?" The operator had just enough time to tell him that it would take another thirty minutes - the scanners having been interrupted by the mysterious drop-out - before Ghes received a rushed comm from near sickbay. Irritated, he put in a request with Tiana to look at the possibilities regarding the sensor blackout - considering there seemed to be no engineering-related explanation - before retreating to his ready room to take the call. <Tag Tiana>=/\= Sir =/\= a weak voice came that Ghes recognised as that of Lieutenant Walsh, his fourth officer. An immediate ill-feeling fell on his consciousness. Saryn... please no. He slipped into his chair, listening intently. =/\= Captain I can't believe it, but all the medicines... all destroyed. The cargo bay, too. =/\= Ghes felt punished with rage, an impersonal force pressing on him. This was as an... affront, regardless of what was responsible. He couldn't help feeling it, as if the rational part of his mind, the empathic side recognised why it'd been done, but had been quashed by the Denobulan conditioning, the genetic scientist in him that approved of such... ethically questionable methods. =/\= I'll be there shortly =/\= * * * "The sickbay staff aren't being very forthcoming as to what happened," Walsh stated. He stood with Ghes outside the CMO's empty office. "Not many people were here apparently. Only Saryn, his son and two others both whom have gone missing." Gheskori cast about sickbay. Glass and storage componentry lay like a reflecting spectral carpet across the floor. Silence prevailed except for the whirring of sickbay's systems. He was appalled at the waste of meds, doubly so considering it would cause a massive hindrance in their mission. He turned back to Walsh, "Where is Savin? His son?" Walsh pointed to a secluded area of sickbay at the young adult vulcan. "Savin?" Ghes sat on the biobed next to the young man. He made sure he had the boy's eye contact, keeping his face level with the vulcan. Then he felt the rage again, undeniable, but managed to hold himself together. "It's very important you tell me what happened. Was this the action of your father?" "If you won't tell me, I'll find someone who will. I understand Commander Walters visited recently... Did he have something to say to you or your father?" <Tag Savin / Saryn / Walters?> <All >

"Savin?" Ghes sat on the biobed next to the young man. He made sure he had the boy's eye contact, keeping his face level with the vulcan. Then he felt the rage again, undeniable, but managed to hold himself together. "It's very important you tell me what happened. Was this the action of your father?"
Savin sensed the rage so for the moment he said nothing, waiting until the feeling went away. He held the captain's gaze, seeing every word the man spoke.
"If you won't tell me, I'll find someone who will. I understand Commander Walters visited recently... Did he have something to say to you or your father?"
Savin nodded. "He did this," he answered the Denobulan's first question, "and he did speak with Commander Walters prior to your visit to sickbay. They discussed ethics and the use of illegal and untested medications and my father argued that it was unsafe and even dangerous to distribute them and he wanted no part of them."
The young Vulcan paused though a look of guilt crossed his face. "He destroyed them." The feeling of guilt increased, though he did agree with his father on the subject of ethics and danger. "I could only watch as he went on a rampage captain, what would you have had me do? Try and stop him? There is no stopping him when he gets in that mood, it would have been very dangerous for me to try."
He fidgeted with the bedsheet, this time looking away. "I am sorry captain but there was nothing I could do, short of finding a phaser and shoot him. I cannot shoot my own father, no-one may expect that of me. It is bad enough I hurt him not so long ago, I do not ever want to go through something like that again. I am sorry captain, I really am."
Savin looked up again. "I do not know where he went after leaving sickbay, however I would presume he went back to his quarters; he was showered with glass and fluids. I do hope it has no averse effects on him because I do not doubt it came in contact with his skin, and I severely doubt that he has not inhaled any of the vapours as he smashed them."

"He destroyed them."
Ghes backed away from Savin, his anger settling in as the suspected facts were confirmed. He stood from the biobed and paced around, exhaling long and slow. He wasn't terribly surprised, and it was frustrating that he'd not acted before Saryn had done the deed. There had been forewarning... signs that the Doctor's rejection had been growing.
He spun on Savin very fast, shouting and attracting the attention of all of sickbay. "You were here and did nothing? He's your father. He might have listened!"
"I could only watch as he went on a rampage captain, what would you have had me do? Try and stop him? There is no stopping him when he gets in that mood, it would have been very dangerous for me to try."
Gheskori worked hard to calm himself as Savin continued. Yes, he could understand Saryn's motives. Indeed he empathised with them, but he also found the vulcan's moral character... extremely aggravating. To Ghes it was an unnecessary hiccup, a exasperating stopping point where perhaps a few shortcuts were deemed acceptable. He wondered if his genetic science background influenced his viewpoint at all, and whether that was a good thing. An acceptance of experimentation and a lack of concern for morals that some could get very hung up on.
"... I would presume he went back to his quarters; he was showered with glass and fluids. I do hope it has no averse effects on him because I do not doubt it came in contact with his skin, and I severely doubt that he has not inhaled any of the vapours as he smashed them."
Weighing up a response, the CO turned quickly to Walsh who was still in sickbay, in the CMO's office. "Lieutenant. Get the medical staff back to duty and have one nurse report to me." He tapped his commbadge, "Bridge, Ghes. Two security guards to Dr Saryn's quarters immediately."
He looked down at Savin again. "You're not coming. You're staying here and salvaging what you can of the medicines, if anything." He left sickbay, saying nothing else and immediately regretting it. He would mend things with Savin later when he'd calmed down. Objectivity, or as close as individuals could come to it, brought clarity and time for contemplation.
"Captain, this is Lieutenant Harris, cargo bay 1. Sir, the meds are destroyed here, too. All of them from what I can tell. It's quite a mess."
"I know, Lieutenant. Stay clear and get in contact with sickbay and quarantine teams. I want the cargo bay closed off until we can ascertain its safety."
He tapped his commbadge again as he neared Saryn's quarters. "Walters, Matthew... Have some teams from your respective departments check out cargo bay 1. We have lost all of the medical supplies and will need to clear up. Also James, any contact from the humanoids yet...?"
<Tag Matthew, Walters>
He trailed off as he saw the security officers at the end of the corridor. They'd reached Saryn's quarters. Ghes hung back, well out of sight some ten metres down the corridor, allowing the guards to greet the Doctor as the door slid back. The nurse arrived, too, with a medical tricorder.

"Walters, Matthew... Have some teams from your respective departments check out cargo bay 1. We have lost all of the medical supplies and will need to clear up. Also James, any contact from the humanoids yet...?"
Will’s head snapped up from the warp core control panel. Cargo Bay 1? Isn’t that where... His heart sank as the mental arithmetic quickly added up to something he really didn’t like. “I’ll get someone there right away Captain.” he said, quickly closing the channel before he said something that might cause a problem.
Sitting back in his chair the engineer cursed under his breath. Damn you Saryn, why’d you go and do a stupid thing like that? He was concerned for the Vulcan, in more ways that one. He had tried to talk him out of doing something rash but apparently it had fallen on deaf ears.
Pulling himself out of the momentary funk Will looked out into the core area looking for his S’ti’ach assistant. Spotting the little blue being three levels up he called out to him and the alien quickly climbed down the core and was by his side. “What’s going on boss? More shield upgrades?”
“Not this time Ihlin. Something trashed Cargo Bay 1 and they need it cleaned, checked out, and ready to be set up again. Operations should be handling the cleaning, I want you to go handle the reconstruction. Take Gamma Team.”
Ihlin smiled his wicked grin and his ears perked up. “Ooooo...sounds like fun. Nothing like a simple job to clean the palate.” Before the human could respond Ihlin was across the room shouting out orders to the engineers and technicians from Gamma Team. Will could only shook his head and went back to the warp core controls. He was fine-tuning the reaction in the chamber, the modified shields draining them a little too much for his taste.
Thankfully for everyone he was there when it happened. Without warning the glow inside of the dilithium chamber redshifted and power failed all over the ship seconds later. Red emergency lights snapped on automatically and alerts sounded all through Main Engineering. “What the hell’s going on this time?” he yelled over to H’Riss, already standing by the main control board.
“The warp core’s shutting down Commander.” the Caitian reported. Both he and Will were bringing up numerous status screens and displays.
“I can see that, what’s causing it?”
“I don’t know, the injectors are working at 98%, the dilithium matrix is aligned, the core is in perfect working order!” H’riss’s confusion was animated through his tail, its short jerky swaying belaying his emotions.
Will brought up a scan of the dilithium matrix and his eyes went wide. “Holy...” If the sensors were right, then the reason for the sudden breakdown in physics was perfectly logical, but as to how they’d purge a sudden flood of anti-chronitons from the reaction chamber, he didn’t have a clue.”

[Sickbay] Savin could only watch as the captain had his little tirade, and do his best to make out the words as the man raged on. He simply nodded as he was told to try and salvage whatever he could but realistically he doubted he could. Whatever fluids could be soaked up with cloths and maybe wrung out, would be tainted with glass slivers and it would be a painstaking if not impossible to remove those and return it to it's original state or purity.
"Whoever is deciding to go near that mess, wear a hazmat suit," the young Vulcan suggested, while moving to pull one on himself. If he was going to do this, he was going to take every precaution he could think of to do it safely.
[Private Quarters]
Saryn sat in the middle of his living room, his legs crossed, his hands resting lightly on his knees. His eyes were closed but his face was anything but relaxed. While he had changed his clothes, he hadn't gone through the effort of washing the glass from his hair and his skin showed several minute cuts, which had an odd green colour.
He heard the door slide open, upon which he opened his eyes and rose to his feet. His hand reached for his sword but as his fingers closed around the hilt, he frowned. His hand felt numb, rather it felt as though it was numbed because he could not feel the coldness of the leather-wrapped handle. Experimentally, his other hand reached for the cold red-ish steel but again, he felt nothing.
This was odd. He ran his finger carefully past the keen blade edge and watched the blood well up from the cut, but he felt neither the cut, nor the blood on his skin. Frowning, he stared at it, ignoring the two guards that walked in, intruding on his private domain. He could see them grab his arms, could see them wrench away his weapon, but he felt nothing, physically. Emotionally was a different affair; he felt confused, angry and disappointed.
Looking up, he saw Gheskori linger in the doorway, saw and even sensed the Denobulan's anger. Of course, he had every right to be angry, but Saryn still felt he had done what was right. He stood by his decision and he would defend it if necessary. By force, if he had to.

Tiana had thought that after a message from Haven, even one she hadn't looked at yet, the day could only get better. She was wrong.
First there was the very terse order from the Captain for her to personally look at the possibilities regarding the sensor blackout. He said that there wasn't an engineering explanation but she had still had to go through those tests as some of them would rule out other causes as well.
Then she got news that some and possibly all of the medical supplies had been destroyed which meant that two of her all ready stretched staff had to go and form part of the hazmat clean up team. She hoped they would not be long.
Tiana was working on the report about the temporal disruptions and waiting for the preliminary tests on the sensors to finish running. She had a suspicion that the one was related to the other but she wasn't going to say anything until she had evidence. Tiana was also working on her third mug of coffee. There was a lot of shouting from outside the office, Tiana went to door.
Kalyn Compton had apparently charged into the lab and straight over to her brother Nick. It was good that she was back off hazmat duty, but that she was now going on about Doctor Saryn going mad...
Tiana coughed loudly causing both the Comptons to jump slightly embarrassed. Kalyn, the chemist, was dispatched back to the work she had left for the hazmat run. The computer beeping meant that Tiana did not actually berate anyone, stress levels were high enough without that, instead she borrowed Nick's expertise as a psudeo- and transperiodic particle physicist to go over her results.
The background chroniton flux in this region was quite a lot lower than Tiana had expected given the amount of temporal fiddling around that had gone on. When particles were 'missing' as one of her lecturers had commented 'expect annihilation'. That meant anti-chronitons which were akward enough on their own and the rather more tricky question of where they were coming from....
It definitely called for more coffee.

"Your son was very honest with me," Ghes nodded, circling the Doctor loosely as he walked around his quarters. It was almost a concession. He'd been talking for ten minutes now, never dwelling on a point for long before moving on to berate Saryn on another consequence of his actions.
He came to stand in front of the vulcan again, silhouetted by the corridor's light. His face was wholly grim, for once no flicker of amusement or gregarious pleasure. "Under normal circumstances I would put you in the brig. At least a week's solitary confinement; minimal personal amenities, little mission-relevant information. Seeing however that we are above a warzone, the inhabitants might have need of an experienced medical doctor. Your presence may well be necessary."
Ghes sidled a glance at each security officer, signalling with a minute nod. Their prehensile fingers released the Doctor's arms in unison and they stepped back. Ghes smiled, "You're to return to sickbay for the time being, but you will be under direct supervision of two security guards at all times. I'll call again when I have need of you."
"Captain? Sorry, sir." The nurse had spoken up from behind him. Ghes apologised and let her through to conduct Saryn's medical scan. She was frowning immediately, the medical tricorder emitting electronic wails.
"Nurse?" Ghes said, his eyes flitting between her and the vulcan.
"I don't understand, sir. The readings don't make any sense, but something's wrong with the Doctor."
Ghes thought bitterly, I could've told you that much, considering the mess in sickbay and the cargo bay. "You can't see what it is?" he asked curtly, "Ok, get on it. Saryn, give yourself a scan when you get back to sickbay. No more of these moral objections or you will be in the brig after all, understood?" He left him with the security guards.
<Tag Saryn>
Simultaneously with Ghes stepping over the threshold from Saryn's quarters to the passageway, a low groan moved through the vessel; the warp core's steady note withered, faded out entirely. He winced, looking both ways down the corridor to orientate himself, and set off at a run for the bridge.
"What's happening?" he said as he strode on. The bridge was at a state of mild frenzy, all stations occupied and the ship at yellow alert.
Commander Matthew swung out of the command seat and took his familiar position at Ops. "Warp core has shut down, sir. Commander Walters just reported. Sensors have blacked out again, too, along with other systems. The whole ship is fluctuating like a variable star."
Gheskori took his seat, "By the way, it was Saryn," he said knowing the whole bridge would hear and get his meaning. He read the details of department reports on his armpanel. The types of failures were similar over the ship; it seemed several systems had just ceased to function. "I assume we're moving to auxiliary power."
"Aye, sir, and it's steady. But no guarantee that it won't become intermittent like other systems," Walters's engineer at the rear of the bridge replied.
Ghes leant forward, a hand under his chin as he regarded the viewscreen. "Take us into a wider trajectory of the humanoid world. I don't want history to record that we deorbited because we lost main power for no reason. Oh incidentally, have we pinpointed where we could make contact with them?"
"Aye, sir. We've found three temporally stable locii on the planet's surface where we could potentially send and receive messages. We've sent one standard greeting but are yet to receive a reply."
"I'll be in my ready room composing a message." He looked back at Matthew before entering, "Hopefully I can make a cup of tea."
The replicator was indeed working. Gheskori recorded a transmission on to his personal terminal, very official but also personable. The humanoids should well have been expecting him, or someone from Starfleet in any case. But with the torsional stresses in the temporal dimension being wrought on the planet, who knew what information they could receive? Was their world, taken as a whole, functioning as part of an alternate reality where the Federation had not come, or perhaps didn't even exist?
Ghes finished the message and peered out the window; spectral blackness casting away all thoughts of light, or life, in its constant infinity. The humanoid world was below him, falling away gradually as the Enzio thrusted to a higher orbit. He wondered what was causing the vessel's malaise, what strange cryptic works of the cosmos were tangling with the Enzio's systems.

JP Gheskori and Trevor O'Mannin
Trevor set with his eyes glued to a comm screen puzzling over the latest reports and data. The abient light shown on his face giving it an uneven tone as words and graphics scrolled by. Something was amiss and though he was only a junior officer he could feel his guttural response building. He never liked ambiguity, something he picked up while still a troubled youth on the failed colony. Ambiguity meant chances for mistakes, errors, decisions that could come back to bite you later, literally. He leaned a little closer pressing a few more locations on the terminal still intent on deciphering the massive load of information held within Securities databanks.
If another person were in the room they could have heard his belly growl like an angry beast demanding to be satisfied. It had been over twelve hours since his last meal, a ration pack 8 consisting of dehydrated beef strips apple slices and potato skins. It was better than the meal before that, filed ration pack he replicated to the horror of his fellow shipmates.
The man’s jaw set firmly as he tapped another location on the screen and stood to his feet still staring for a moment at the now neutral screened terminal. Landing a position on the USS Enzio was a dream. After the two aging starships he had previously been on the new ship seemed far more comfortable and to say the least safe.
He picked up the PaDD that sat next to the terminal and began walking away towards the main doors to his assigned department.
Gheskori scanned through the man's file, his interest piqued by the man's short service history and somewhat veiled past. Reclined in his ready room chair, he'd resolved to take a break while the crew investigated why the warp core and sensor grids had shut down.
Having lost the previous CTSO McCluskey, during shoreleave of the last mission, Ghes had brought aboard several deparment head candidates. His intent had been to evaluate each of them during the lengthy trip out here to the Hebridian sector. As it'd turned out there hadn't been much time, but he felt he'd made the right choice.
He thought back to the instant when he'd informed Ensign O'Mannin of his assignment to head of the Security department.
"Mr O'Mannin." He stood at one end of the security briefing table with O'Mannin at the other. The security staff had been dismissed, leaving just Ghes and the towering human.
It was clear what this was all about. Gheskori rarely stood on ceremony, especially if it wasn't necessary. "The job is yours, Ensign. Congratulations." He rounded the table and handed the man a PADD with his orders.
“Computer,” The security chief ordered as he headed down the hall, “where is Captain Gheskori.”
“Captain Gheskori is in the Ready Room,” came the emotionless computerized response.
Bridge,” he stated as he stepped into the turbo lift and turned so his back faced the wall. Trevor took in the room scanning it with his eyes as if suspicious of every shadow and speck of lent or lack of it. His counselor had said it was a result of the events in his past, he merely thought it was good protocol to be aware of one’s environment.
As the lifts doors parted he stepped out and looked both directions identifying each individual taking in their location and the state of affairs. Something was odd, he could feel it. He wasn’t telepathic but the pit of his stomach seemed to react to the quick questioning glances as he entered.
Yellow alert was never a good thing and what he had in his hand wasn’t going to make things any easier. “Ensign Trevor O’Mannin requesting permission to come aboard,” he stated in his self-confident manor.
"Permission granted. Welcome to the bridge, Ensign," the duty officer stood from the command chair, greeting the newcomer but his mind preoccupied with the current ship status, "The Captain's in his ready room."
"Not anymore," Ghes said, suddenly present by the ready room doors. He strode towards O'Mannin, "I've given you your assignment already, Ensign, but again congratulations." Gheskori would've shook the man's hand but being a Denobulan he had issues with personal contact, just like vulcans and likely many other races.
He made to move past his subordinate to take the command chair but something made him pause. "Relax, Ensign. You've been aboard for longer than five minutes, figuratively speaking."
“Understood Captain,” o’Mannin said grateful he had not been forced to shake the man’s hand, “Could you tell me why I was not notified of the destruction of medical supplies?”
Gheskori studied the man, having to crane his neck to look him in the eyes. "You weren't deemed important enough at the time," he told him honestly. "Now you've been promoted to permanent CTSO you will be briefed in due course."
Ghes let the man take his station. "You know that the supplies we're instructed to deliver to these peoples are illegal in the Federation, Ensign?"
The tall man nodded feeling as if he had been put in his place and began to walk towards his station to relieve the security officer on duty, “I do Captain. I was posted to Sickbay for a portion of my shift.”
He nodded towards the Ensign stationed there and in a lower tone said, “thank you K’Pol.” The Vulcan nodded his consent and stepped away from the Comm. For a moment Trevor watched the man as he departed then turned towards the station and pressed a few locations on the display before looking back up towards the view screen. The human chose to remain silent rather than pursue the issue further in public.
"Ok, Ensign." Ghes inclined his head and took the command chair, "Ah yes, I've just remembered, you should book yourself in for a medical exam with the CMO. I'd recommend sooner rather than later; it would be a good opportunity to check up on him. Be warned... his behaviour may still be somewhat erratic."
"Sir, we're receiving a response from the surface. One way and text only." Ghes turned to look at the comms officer. "They're sending us beam down coordinates! But, not to this world..."
Ghes frowned. "The insectoid world presumably?"
"No, sir, not the insectoid world. I believe it refers to the third planet. The small one, beyond the asteroid belt."

Location: Sickbay Authors: Trevor O'Mannin and Doctor Savin
There was a look of determination on Trevor’s face as he left security and headed down the hall towards Sickbay. Captain Gheskori had ordered a trip to have a physical with the CMO though what he would rather be doing is throwing the man in the brig. In the realm he was familiar with actions had consequences and when one broke the rules there was a price and it seemed to the new CTSO that Doctor Saryn’s misdeeds were being overlook, even rewarded to some extent. It didn’t set well with the Ensign though when he had asked about the destroyed medicine Gheskori seemed to more interested in how he knew about the crime than what he was in bringing justice to bear on it.
Trevor was still getting used to the layout of the vessel. It was new and the only one of its kind. Unlike other vessels it could divide into three sections allowing two portions to contain a threat and allowing the third allows civilians aboard letting them escape a heated situation. Learning the tactical specifications of such a ingenious vessel was hard enough let along all the situational uses for it.
He had made sure that his last meal was soon enough to avoid the embarrassment of a growling stomach. At the prompting of a one his fellow security officers he tried something different, hot dogs, something he has decided not to attempt again, that is with onions and mustard. For the most part his diet had been rather bland, a survivalist menu far different than that aboard a modern starship when times are good. Trevor had decided that at least for the time being rations would have to suffice.
The door to Sickbay appeared on his left and although he knew well its location he was hesitant to enter. The last time he had been there it was on a shift where he more or less guarded the Doctor as if he was in danger from something rather than a person accused of destruction of Starfleet property.
As he entered he saw an older man standing to the side of another much younger one. They were both Vulcan and both bore a resemblance to each other. Trevor had seen the two before but had not spoken to them. He had not spoken much to anyone other than what was absolutely necessary and now he found he would have to break the ice with one of these two individuals.
“Excuse me,” he began trying to get the attention of the older gentlemen, “could you tell me where I might find Doctor Saryn? I have an appointment with him.”
"I am he," the older Vulcan replied gravely, while the younger frowned at the readings on his tricorder, seemingly oblivious to the newcomer's presence. "I am not aware of an appointment, Ensign...?" Saryn seemed to ignore the two guards that stood a few paces behind him, pretending they weren't there at all. The sleeves to his tunic were rolled up to the elbow, his right hand bandaged neatly.
The human was not surprised there was no record of an appointment. His orders were verbal and as such carried no visible trail, “I am Ensign Trevor O’Mannin Doctor, the captain has ordered I received a physical examination.” He pause for a moment then continued, “if this is a poor time sir I can return later.”
Savin looked up and smiled at Trevor. "Please come with me sir and make yourself comfortable on biobed one. Are you allergic to any medications, or is there anything not in your medical file that you think we should know about anyway?"
“No sir,” the Ensign stated with a nod, “I believe my records are up to date though it may require a little more reading on your part than most. I’ll go find biobed one Doctor,” he smiled slightly with a touch of nervousness. It wasn’t that his records were not well kept but finding out one has been through in his relatively short life often caught some doctors off guard. The mottled look of his skin also had the same affect, as if someone had tried far too hard to mix oil and water and ended up unsuccessful as usual.
The Vulcan smiled. "You don't need to address me as 'sir', you outrank me sir. And yes, I have read your records, quite the bookwork sir. I do wonder, how have you been able to cope? Do you sleep well during your off hours sir? Or are you experiencing any kind of discomfort?" All the while as he spoke, he kept his eyes on his patient, while his hands followed his speech in very fluid motions. Savin wasn't even aware he was doing it.
Trevor laid down on the biobed as instructed and raised his eyebrows as he began to speak, “I sleep well as long as I don’t dream Doctor, luckily that isn’t often.”
"You can consciously fail to dream?" Savin asked, clearly surprised, "Vulcans do not dream. Not often...sometimes, I wish I could."
“I didn’t know Vulcan’s didn’t dream,” he admitted with a curious smile, “but no I can’t consciously choose not to dream, I just don’t always have them.” He watched the man as his hands moved and wondered what exactly he was doing. This was more than mere gestures it seemed. They appeared to be purposeful in that at times he would repeat a given form while he spoke but not being around individuals with a hearing loss he had no idea what to make of them. “Is there a purpose in your hand motions Doctor,” he asked questioningly hoping the man wouldn’t take offence at it.
Savin blinked, briefly staring down at his hands, before using both to flip open the tricorder. "Yes sir. I am deaf," he replied, "I apologize I often am not aware I am even signing sir." He took the wand from the tricorder and ran it over the chief's body. "How long have you been on board?"
“Sinse we left the Beta Hydra,” he stated watching the Doctor and the wand. He had experienced many physicals but each one made him a little tense. The majority of times he had been to see a physician it was to fix something someone else broke or even to have the person inflict even more pain in a controlled environment. In either case such memories could be easily triggered without the person ever realizing.
"Relax sir, I do not bite." Gently, the young Vulcan reached out, his hand lightly touching the man's arm. "I can sense that you are tense, there is no reason to sir. We do not treat what you do not wish to be treated, and we endeavor to keep you as comfortable as we can, whenever you are injured. Whatever your reason, you will be safe in this sickbay sir."
Trevor tried to smile at the Doctors words but it was difficult for him to ignore the nagging feelings that had emerged, “I’ll do my best Doctor,” he offered letting in a deep breath and releasing it. “Doctors I have dealt with have not always followed the Hippocratic oath.”
Horrified, Savin stared at him. "What? I am sorry sir but I do not understand. How did they not? Surely, a healer's first duty is to relieve suffering?" He closed his tricorder and stepped a little closer. "Do you object to being touched?"
“No,” he said with a slight smile, “I’ve learned to deal with it.” He looked keenly at the Vulcan and began his response to his first question, “if you have read my medical history you will realize that I was in Cardassian custody for eight years. Physicians were routinely used as part of their… rehabilitation techniques.”
"I read a lot of abuse in your medical record," Savin answered quietly, though directly, "hence my question. I will be careful and if you are uncomfortable, I will stop. I prefer hands-on examination, if you will." He started with Trevor's jaw, carefully examining the glands under the jaw and near his ears, then continued down his throat. "I have learned that I cannot always rely on a tricorder, therefor I prefer to have non-technological experience as well."
Trevor allowed the man to examine him feeling only slightly alerted by it. His eyes began to take in the surroundings a bit more forever cautious. “I can’t say I have had such a, thorough examination before,” he mentioned as he brought his eyes back to Savin, “probably a good thing.”
"Howso?" Savin asked as he gestured for Trevor to take off his shirt, while pulling the curtain closed to ensure some privacy. As he did, he caught his father's eyes but said nothing to him. He couldn't approve of what his father had done, and chose to let him know by not talking to him.
Recognizing the request from the Doctor’s gesture he hesitated a moment then complied pulling the garment off and revealing his well-formed physique. Again he hesitated looking up at the Vulcan to notice his response to the unevenness of skin tone and the mottled appearance it possessed.
Carefully, Savin touched the mottled skin, trying to find any unevenness in the skin itself. There was no judgment in his expression as he studied the skin. "Unusual..." he murmured as he lightly ran his fingers across it. "May I take a sample?"
Trevor hesitated at the request but smiled, “sure if you think it will help.” There as another slight pause, “I have been told it is a result of using a dermal replicator too often.”
"This may sting," Savin warned as he took the biopsy, "I do not now if it will help, but I wish to study the phenomenon. I have not heard of dermal regenerators causing this, who told you that?"
The officer didn’t even flinch as the tissue sample was taken. It wasn’t that he couldn’t feel it or that he was numb to pain, rather he had grown accustomed to such minor irritations that was nearly unnoticeable. “Doctor Alenis Fuliar,” he answered watching the doctor as he worked, “She is at Starfleet Medical in San Francisco.
"I have never heard of her," Savin admitted, "I do find that theory an interesting one, but I doubt there is any truth in it. Dermal regenerators heal skin, they do not mar it. I could attempt to correct it, if you desire. I make you no promises that it will work, but I can try. Or my father can try, he is more skilled and even more qualified than I."
“Your father,” Trevor questioned. He looked over at the Older Vulcan that had thus far only observed, “ok, I would like to look normal again.”
Savin followed his gaze and nodded. "Doctor Saryn is my father," he confirmed, "and I shall look into your skin condition. I would rather not try anything at this particular moment, not before I study the sample I have taken. For now, I will clear you for duty and I will contact you when I know more. Agreed?"
Trevor nodded, “agreed doctor, “ he stood up pulling his shirt back on and looked back over at the older Vulcan studying him for a moment. He knew what he had done and although he didn’t approve without authorization he couldn’t merely arrest the man. “I look forward to hearing from you Doctor he said his eyes still studying Saryn. With a nod to the father and to the son he made his exit.

"The question remains, why do they want us all the way out there?" Ghes was virtually blocking the view, standing so close to the screen, moving back and forth in front of it pointing at various features.
The viewscreen presented a tactical view of the outer system, the asteroid field with its unusual instability shown as innermost, and the outer planetoid on the boundary, grey and remote. Ghes eyed that world once more, mystified at its significance, at the reason for it being the Harlequin peoples' desired meeting place.
"It's possible, sir, that they desire a temporally stable location for meeting," one officer's voice floated down to him.
Yes, there was that possibility, but Ghes didn't see how the system's inhabitants would have the facility to get to that third planet. "Can you contact the humanoids again?" he asked, moving back to his seat and glancing around, "The humanoids... Do we have to keep calling them the humanoids? Find an actual name for them please."
The comms officer acknowledged and then spoke again after working his console. "Sir, the main transceiver's just gone offline... anti-chroniton interference," he nodded in confirmation.
Ghes sighed, opening a channel to engineering. The ship's move to a higher orbit hadn't prevented the anti-chroniton presence from affecting its systems. But why the anti-chronitons were having this effect was something of a mystery, at least to Ghes. "Commander Walters, status of the warp core?"
"It'd be really helpful to have warp as an option, Will. If this region's temporally unstable we shouldn't linger for long. What if these anti-chronitons cause a temporal rift, or rewrite history..." Or something, Ghes thought. Quantum and temporal mechanics, causality, they had never been his strong points. "It's also affecting comms and sensors... How could this be solved?" he glanced at Tiana who had returned to the bridge.
<Tag Walters>
"Sir...! Detecting a surface detonation!"
"On screen. Zoom and filter image for brightness." Commander Matthew ordered instantly. Ghes swivelled in his chair to face the viewscreen, eyes wide in expectation and of course, sudden fear.
There was nothing immediately obvious. The viewscreen had zoomed to a non-descript area of the humanoid world's main continent. The image was hazy, regions contrasting with each other with patches of striated colour - regions where massive temporal fluctuations were playing havoc. But that was normal. Then he saw something: a slender jewel of energy, spinning at the heart of a frenetic storm of... what?
It exploded to fill the whole viewscreen. Even with the polarisation and dimming of the light the crew had to shield their eyes, as if they were bathed in a sudden intense UV glow.
"Sir, the crust in that region is being annihilated," an officer reported in quiet apprehension. Seconds of agony passed by, Ghes contemplating a certain set of orders, but then... "The blast is dying out, sir... Radiation is high... The type of weapon is unidentified. Five percent of the planet's crust no longer exists, the particles were somehow annihilated at the subatomic level." Ghes watched the subsiding blast, the officer continuing his report. "Part of the atmosphere has burnt off. Probable high casualties. But it's odd... The world is simultaneously intact."
Different timeframes... Ghes thought broodingly. The bridge seemed dark, lost in shadow with only the ethereal glow from the viewscreen providing illumination. It showed the annihilated area which had included a large city. A viscous fiery glow was emerging from the nothingness... Magma, rolling and seething to the surface. "Once comms are back online, contact the areas of stability on the surface again and ask if they require assistance. We are willing to beam down at short notice."
"Commander Matthew. Notify Saryn and O'Mannin and have them prep teams for a possible away mission."
"What good are we going to do, sir? We've got nothing that can combat annihilation, unfortunately."
"Yes, Commander," Ghes smiled dimly, "But I'd like to know just what caused that blast. And how we can get these people to stop. For now let's sort out our own system failures, before something terrible happens to us. I'm visiting sickbay," he added after a pause, and trudged to the turbolift feeling dejected and tired.

The ship was running decidedly quieter, at an uncertain level in its power output. Ghes felt it: the pulse of the power core wavering in its intensity far below. The warp core issues were beginning to affect more and more ship systems; the crew, particularly those in engineering and the science labs, would have to find a solution soon, before the Enzio was blotted from existence by anti-chronitons. That was the dramatic image Ghes had in his head at least. He strode into sickbay; the place seemed strangely inviting, after the cold mess he'd seen it as earlier - glittering glass and componentry scattered over the floor, silent and monolithic and empty. "Mr O'Mannin?" he called, casting about for his new CTSO. "I'm afraid he left twenty minutes ago, Captain," a passing nurse said, looking almost sad. "Thank you, nurse," he nodded, and steeled himself as he looked towards the occupied CMO's office. "Something wrong?" he asked her. "No, sir," she responded innocently, then leaned in almost conspiratorially. "Just that some of us are finding it difficult to talk to Dr Saryn after... after what happened." Ghes's eyebrows rose, now understanding. "Thank you, nurse," he said again. He slipped into Saryn's office and regarded the vulcan from the entrance point. The two security guards were standing outside the office, seeming almost like sentinels there to Saryn rather than keeping watch on him. "Doctor, I understand Mr O'Mannin has visited recently for his physical?" He came to the desk and handed the Doctor a PADD, "I was hoping I'd still find him here. I want both you and him to go on an away mission to the planet below. There's a been a disaster. Our first move in these negotiations will be to help the humanoid species' relief effort, despite the... temporal complications." Saryn seemed impassive as he studied the PADD. "Can I hazard a guess at what you're thinking?" Ghes interrupted. "You're wondering if I'm assigning O'Mannin to the away team to keep watch on you... Well your role will involve medical assistance. As you've hampered our ability to give it, I'd like to ensure you help as much as you're able to." "I'm going straight to the transporter room. Would you care to join me?" he asked, stepping to the side of the desk and extending a welcoming hand, then felt foolish as it felt like he was asking the vulcan to dance. He tapped his commbadge while Saryn prepared himself to join the away team, or decided whether he wished to. Not that he had a choice... "Commander Matthew, you have the bridge. I will be leading the away team to the surface. No time for arguments I'm afraid. Have O'Mannin, his chosen security and our chief diplomat meet me in transporter room 2. There'll be a short briefing that I'll open up to all the senior staff by comm, before we beam down." <Tag Saryn, O'Mannin, Matthew> <the rest!> OOC: Come on people

Scene: USS ENZIO Main bridge
“Cmdr. Matthew Bridge to Transporter room one “
“Captain I must object to you transporting down to the planet it’s a war zone “as you know the ship is having major systems problems our ship sensors are spotty at best and it would be hard for the transporter operator to keep a good Transporter signal on the Away teams members”
“Cmdr. Matthew Lt. Bentham let get our Ship back online ‘ "Aye, Commander, give us several minutes. We are recalibrating the communication matrices. Bentham out," Matthew let the link shut off. "Sir, the level 2 diagnostics indicated all was running as it should," the man said with no hint of what he had done. “Both Bentham’s black eyebrows shot up. "A level 2 diagnostic, Ensign? Are you really trying to get off the hook with that reply?" Matthew stood from his chair and walked over to where the young man sat. "It was the standard protocol that I called up on the computer, yes Sir,” the man was beginning to perspire a little as the man stood so close to him.
"Was it really, Ensign Wiley? I was Chief Communications Officer on the Night Hawk for 3 years. I do not recall..." just get it working please.

Location: planet authors: Saryn & Trevor O'Mannin
Trevor finished closing the diagonal seal on the environmental suit he had chosen for the trip planetside. The material was designed specifically to absorb and disperse extreme heat though it didn’t mean things would be nice and comfy for the wearer. The helmet would filter out the dust particles from the super-heated air. The transparent material in the front was equipped with a computerized device designed to assist in making visibility a little better though to say it was perfect would be a great overstatement.
He hated suits like this but knowing the environment he was about to be beamed down to demanded he do more than just show up. There were numerous tools hanging from a belt around the suit and on the pad with him and the Doctor several articles varying in size that could prove helpful depending on what they found once there.
Saryn stood fumbling with the suit; he didn't mind them but for some reason he just couldn't get it on. That is, he had the suit on but with his gloves on he couldn't get the helmet on. The Vulcan cast the security chief a helpless look as the helmet yet again clattered to the deck from his nerveless fingers.
“Need some help,” the human offered picking up the errant helmet, “relax Doctor Saryn it will be easier on both of us.” Trevor smiled slightly as he sat the open portion of the head gear over the Vucan’s head turning it slightly to begin the locking sequence. “There,” he said with a nod, “do we have all of our supplies, your medical tricorder and things?”
From within the suit, the Vulcan nodded. "I have what I need," he answered, "though I do not understand why I am being sent, especially since I was somewhat confined to sickbay." He failed to mention that he also wasn't quite feeling well. Very literally. "Are you armed, Ensign O'Mannin?"
“I am,” he said as his hand rested for a moment on the handle of his phaser. He then pointed to a long rectangular box, “two plasma rifles in there if we need them.”
He looked over at the transporter chief and asked, “are you ready petty officer?”
"I will not touch a phaser," Saryn answered coldly. He hadn't ever since that fateful day when he had ended up responsible for a) the death of his captain and b)several dead in San Fransisco after a time displacement incident back to 1987. "I have a bladed weapon in my medkit, should I require it's use."
The transporter chief nodded. "Ready when you are sir."
The security was less than happy with the Doctor’s response but there would be time to argue the point later if need be, “engage,’ he ordered as he prepared to dematerialize on the alien world.
The feeling of teleportation, at least that of de- and re- materializing had never been a comfortable one for Trevor. Keeping him in the buffer had at times been used as a form of punishment as was the threat of never re-materializing him. Though the constant threats and attempts at mental domination and control had ended the day he was taken aboard a Federation Starship the memory still lingered in the back of his mind ready to add to his mental activity whenever it chose.
His eyes took a scene of general panic. Sentient being of a sort he had never encountered before ignored their arrival and headed of in random directions escaping with their lives they hoped as their world was consumed by fire and walls of magma.
Saryn didn't seem particularly bothered by the heat but he didn't miss the look of panic on Trevor's face. "Sir!" he called out, "are you all right?"
“I’d feel better if there was someone in charge we could talk to,” he stated calmly.
"Most likely, there is but I have no idea where or who." The doctor seemed oddly calm as they were surrounded by an inferno. He didn't seem to feel the heat as it attacked his suit.
The security chief glanced around a bit walking carefully into where the retreating people were coming from. “Then we have a choice,” he stated, “either start making our own decisions here or try hunting down someone who may not exist.” He paused in his advance and continued, “I think we better make the decisions.”
"I am in agreement," the Vulcan replied. He wondered, should he mention that he had actually been an acting commanding officer at some point? That he actually had both command, and tactical experience because before he became a doctor he actually was a tactical officer? Inside the suit, he shrugged and mentally shook his head. "You are in charge," he stated simply, wondering if it was becoming harder to breathe inside the suit.
“Agreed,” Trevor stated.
He pulled his tricorder up and began taking readings of the activity and continuing to move closer. “Looks like the flow has changed direction and his headed south east into an uninhabited portion of the planet,” the Security Chief glanced around again and walked slightly to his left then stopped again.
“Lets see if we can’t get everyone relocated about a three kilometers from north west. It appears as if there is another population center there,” came his instructions feeling sort of out of place using his leadership training in a crisis for the first time. “We can get the injured into one location and then assess everyone’s needs….”
For a moment his talk trailed off then he spoke again, “I see someone in what appears to be a uniform. I’m going to find out who it is.”
Saryn nodded slowly and followed, feeling as though he head lead tied to his body. He knew the suit was heavy, and he knew he should feel it's weight; but he didn't. He took a deep breath but failed to feel the incoming stream of cold air from the tank on his back, and it made him feel as if he wasn't breathing at all. Left foot, right foot... He had to consciously tell himself which foot to move, or he wasn't moving at all.
"My scanner indicates that it is an unknown species," he reported. "As in...it does not recognize it. Sir."
Trevor nodded stopping to glance around again, “that’s what I figured,” he said, “don’t recall any seeing a humanoid species with such shiny skin.” It was true the people’s skin coming by reminded the Ensign of something he had heard about but had never seen, patent leather, and although there was perspiration it did not appear to be visibly porous. Their hair was all straight with no exceptions. Something that also seemed unique to the species though in both accounts circumstances may have been causing the illusion of a pore-less dermis and hair that looked as if it had been ironed.
“There," he said, ”someone in uniform, seems to be directing people.” He pointed to his left and headed that direction, “time for introductions.”
Saryn managed to give a small nod, but failed to move. "Ensign," he warned, his skin looking ashen from within the helmet, the word barely breathed. "Need...air..."
The security officer turned abruptly around and was standing directly in front of the Doctor, With both hands he reached up and unlatched the man’s helmet removing it. With the head covering in his left hand he tapped his com. Badge, “Ensign O’Mannin to sickbay Doctor Saryn is having trouble breathing, two to beam up.”

OOC: Playing catch up
Tiana had three empty coffee mugs on the side of the lab by the time she and Nick had come up with a plausible mechanism for the interaction of anti-chronitons with the sensors. It seems that the temporal field generated by the particles meant had interacted with the sensors and meant that there was a 2 ms timeslip in the sensors meaning data was coming in before they had asked for it. It was possible to cleanse the system and she sent the information to the Captain, as he had specifically asked for it, and sensor control. Hopefully it wouldn't be long before things were working again.
Tag: Ghes
Tiana was staring at data coming in from the newly working sensors... It was getting worse an explosion had gone off, and simultaneously not gone off... She wasn't sure what had happened, there were sadly many high energy reactions that gave of temporal particles, of course most of those reactions were so violent and unstable that using them as a weapon was just impossible. She could see the stresses starting to build up in the planet. There were only so many simultaneous states that could exist before every thing started to unravel..
=/\= Commander Galwyn to the Captain =/\= Tiana tagged her comm badge. =/\= If you are planning on sending an investigation team down to the planet below you should be aware that the temporally co-existing states are causing seismic stresses in the planet on top of the damage all ready done. =/\=
Tag: Ghes
=/\= So far the pressures are low enough that there no need for e relief valve but that could change if there's another temporal attack, explosion or any sort of incident anywhere within the atmosphere. =/\=
