Ghes was preparing himself in the transporter room. He'd stopped by his ready room after leaving the staff conference, to collect one personal effect. Under his desk had been a two by two inch slip of real paper, upon which was printed a still image of his late wife. He kissed it now, feeling rather stupid, and tucked it in his jacket pocket.
He didn't know why he was taking it, but he often felt baffled by the transient nature of life, how it could change so quickly. His race had expended a lot of energy prolonging Denobulan life as long as possible, and had turned to more and more extreme methods of genetic manipulation to do so. But the meaningless death of his first spouse made it all seem rather pointless. Something drew him to carry the picture this time.
Cmdr Matthew, "Bridge to Captain Gheskori sir we have just finish scanning the planet we have new coordinates for the away teams to beam Down to we are sending them to the transporter room now Bridge out"
Ghes had no chance to reply to his acting XO's rapid comm message. He only looked at the transporter operator, confused at why they were having to select new beam down coordinates. "Is the XO playing it safe?" he asked.
"In a sense, sir. The Ops console reports that the coordinates selected by the insectoids are masked from our sensors due to atmospheric interference. We can't tell what's waiting down there."
Ghes grumbled something that sounded like a complaint, but in truth he was grateful for his XO's forethought. It wouldn't do to beam into the Insectoid's HQ when it couldn't even be seen on sensors. "I hope we're not in for a long walk..."
The room's doors slid aside to reveal an apologetic looking engineer carrying too much equipment. "Ah, Mr Walters... You're prepared to beam down? Oh, don't worry. We aren't expecting too much trouble." It was true. Most of the insectoids' fighting with the humanoids - who still maintained their foothold - was on the other side of the world, in the embattled frozen climes of the northerly continent.
They materialised in the midst of a rust red plain, a pinnacle of silver before them up a slight incline. A wide path, lined with gold, wound its way up the shallow hill to the entrance of the insectoid HQ and the courtyard beyond. That was where they had planned to beam down. It was perhaps a kilometre away. "Let's get going, Commander," Ghes said, stowing his phaser he'd had at the ready as he'd beamed in and setting off ahead of the weighed-down CEO. He saw uncertain figures moving here and there along the border of the path. They seemed armed, but he turned to Walters - who held the tricorder - for confirmation.

Trevor’s eyes looked coolly across his desk to a tall human male as he rose to his feet and spat out his protest. Ensign Patrick Kissinger, a tall ebony skinned was unhappy with the decision the security chief had made and was more than willing to be vocal about it. His balled head glistened under the rooms somewhat harsh lighting as his brown eyes shot proverbial fiery darts at the Lieutenant that sat calmly words were spat though exposed white teeth like an angry pit bull displaying his unhappiness. “This is ridiculous,” the main said in a raised tone, “you know I am the most qualified for this away mission. I demand to know why you’re not sending me.”
The human took in a deep breath as he prepared to answer his subordinate, “your actions at present Mister Kissinger should make that reason rather clear. I have selected Ensigns Muroc and Lenaris Astrel will be going and that is my decision.” Trevor had a calm presence about him as if unaffected by the man with bulky muscles that rippled under his uniform. He had faced down worse adversaries before and intimidation wasn’t going to change his mind. “Anything further,” the Lientenate (jg) asked looking around the room at the gathered group and found there were not additional questions except for those of the protesting dark skinned human.
As Kissinger began to open his mouth again to raise an additional complaint O’Mannin spoke up breaking off the other man’s words at the pass, “dismissed.”
For a moment Patrick stood with his mouth open then he shook his head from side to side like a wounded animal and departed with the rest of the staff with the exception of Muroc and Astrel.
With a slight smirk on her face the Bajoran Astrel made her way with Muroc over to Trevor’s side as he stood only giving the two a casual glance as he watched the tall black man exit the room. “You have two minutes to get to the transporter room I mentioned earlier,” he stated, “just your phasors and remember this is a diplomatic visit.”
“Yes sir,” the Vulcan spoke up as he stood stiffly beside his counterpart.
“I just wanted to thank you sir,” the Bajoran began, “for trusting us with this assignment.”
Trevor Smiled at the woman and nodded, “I know you two will be excellent representatives Lenaris,” he said letting a smile cross his own face, “I wouldn’t let Kissenger within ten meters of a diplomatic encounter unless I wanted to hear explosions.”
The woman chuckled at Trevor’s words and nodded, “we better get going,” she said as she looked over at the Vulcan.
**** Transporter room***
The pair of security officers were in the Transporter room standing near Walters awaiting the orders to beam down. As Gheskori entered the room the stood at attention awaiting orders and being as all subordinates silent until they needed to speak. It seemed as if there was enough excitement without them adding to it.
The pair beamed down with the other two officers taking in the soundings around them with interest. Ghes was correct, they did appear armed and their own tricorder readings confirmed the same information.

"Acknowledged. Advance with caution," Ghes ordered, barely getting the words out as he broke into a fit of coughing. The dust, kicked up by the steady breeze across the rust red plain, was so dense that it could be felt on the tongue. Saryn had had his problems on the humanoid world, Ghes was having his own troubles on this one.
He let the security guards go on ahead, until they were some 20 metres ahead of Ghes and Walters. They spread to the left and right of the path. Ghes commed them, "Keep your phasers ready but at the hip. We don't want to cause unnecessary tension. Remember, we want to appear strong but not aggressive."
The path wound to left as they began to progress up the incline. As they started the upwards trek, a criss-cross of light came from up ahead. It was barely visible, making only the slightest fizzling sound - like the crackle of a discharging laser...
The laser beams are illuminating the airborne dust... Ghes realised. He looked behind at the encumbered Walters, signalled for the engineer to drop to the ground. They were now sheltered from the structure atop the hill by an outcropping of copper-coloured rock. Gheskori tried to pinpoint where the laser discharge had come from. He guessed somewhere near the lip of the incline - at which point the rest of the hill passed out of sight.
"Astrel, Muroc, report.." He pressed his back into the outcrop, refraining from drawing his phaser until he could ascertain what was happening. There was no response, and shortly after he heard a quick succession of laser and phaser fire.
"Communication's jammed," Walters said, analysing his tricorder readings.
"Advance," Ghes ordered. He took his phaser and nodded to Walters, indicating he'd cover the engineer while he ran to the next outcrop.

Lieutenant Walsh, the Enzio's Fourth Officer, played idly with the rack of hyposprays. He took one out - it happening to contain neurozine - and tossed it from hand to hand, before replacing it in its slot. He fumbled as he tried to put it back in and the whole rack toppled to the floor, the hyposprays falling out everywhere.
He sighed and bent to pick them up, finding himself assisted by a junior doctor. "Careful, sir. Inject yourself with that neurozine stuff and you'll be out for days."
"I may as well be out for days, Ensign. I've been stuck in this damn sickbay for most of the mission, for one reason or another." He glanced over to the CMO's biobed - the reason he was present here. "How is he, anyway?"

"Stable," Savin replied as he assisted the other doctor in getting the hyposprays back into the rack. "Other than that I have no further information. I have been studying the compound that put him in this condition, and have been replicating it on the captain's order."
The young Vulcan sighed and straightened after they were done. "There is nothing I can do, other than wait for the toxins to clear his system. I have no idea what the extend of damage may be to him, once he regains consciousness, if he will ever wake up at all."
He sighed again, patting the young man's shoulder. "Just stay viligant doctor and report any change. I need to speak with the captain."
Grabbing a PADD, Savin downloaded his latest research onto the PADD, grabbed a hypospray and filled vial ,then headed for the bridge. The ride to the bridge seemed to take forever, and patience was not something that was high on Savin's list at present. He was tired, couldn't even remember when he'd last eaten, and was annoyed with the lack of progress in finding an anti-toxin.
"Captain, I must report failure," he stated as soon as the doors openend. "I have replicated the medication insofar it is a medication because to us Vulcans it is highly toxic. It is also toxic to Romulans and any other copper based species. Humans are relatively safe, they may experience mild symptoms upon exposure. I have been unable to synthesize an antidote, but I have managed to stabilize my father. I am uncertain which component stabilized it, we are still studying the effects. I have sent a copy of my findings to the science department for evaluation."

Muroc reached over and grabbed Lenaris’ arm and pulled her down with him to one knee as his tricorder picked the beams and hissing sound. “Energy weapon discharge,” he said calmly though his action’s indicated he was at least a little concerned about it.
“Captain,” the female began tapping her bage, “we are reading energy weapon discharges not far from your location.” He eyes shifted to the Vulcan for a moment then back to the hazy world around her. “I got a bad feeling about this she muttered loud enough the VMuroc could hear.

OOC: Saryn, sorry I forgot... Gheskori is on the surface. It would be James Matthew or another officer that Savin would've reported to on the bridge. James if you could please respond to Saryn's post above.
Ghes could only just hear Ensign Lenaris's voice. The comm jamming should've dampened any transmission to nothingness, but obviously the insectoids' efforts hadn't been wholly effective. "Yes Ensign, we know," he replied shortly.
Walters had moved to the next outcrop, managing to avoid being hit by a laser beam. The beams were almost invisible which made them very hard to dodge if they passed nearby. It seemed however that the discharges were being directed to a different location. Walters caught Gheskori's eye; he was shifting his body to stay out of the line of fire, trying to read his tricorder. "Sir! I'm reading insectoid lifesigns moving towards Muroc and Lenaris's position."
"Did you hear that, Ensigns?" Ghes spoke over his commbadge. "Defensive positions, now. Try to push forward to their location but don't risk anything. We may need to beam back up to the ship... Fire at will."
<Tag Muroc, Lenaris (O'Mannin); Walters>
Ghes wondered what was going on. Why were the insectoids attacking them? Did they know who had arrived on their planet? He had an idea: perhaps the communication jamming didn't carry up to the ship...
=^=USS Enzio... Commander Matthew, this is the Captain... Do you read me?=^= Ghes coughed on the dust-thick air. He saw the laser fire closing in on the security team's position. =^= Commander, I need you to act very quickly. If you can, contact the insectoid HQ and tell them that they're attacking our people. Perhaps it would be best to mention the medicine, and especially the war materiel, we're pretending to offer them. We're here to negotiate; not start another war.=^=
<Tag Matthew>
As he finished the comm, several angular shapes marching in lock-step appeared over the lip of the hill, armed to the teeth. This would take some skillful diplomacy...
Lieutenant Walsh was still in sickbay. He stood near the door, his back to the wall and arms folded. This was becoming extremely tedious. The young vulcan had told him of his father's condition. It was still critical, but at least he had stabilised.
He approached the CMO's biobed. The doctor looked so... peaceful, as he lay there with his hands linked across his chest. All in spite of the havoc that was being wreaked inside his resilient vulcan body. As he watched, almost in admiration, the doctor's son stepped up behind him, having returned from the bridge...
<Tag Saryn, Savin - just to give you an opening if you need it. Tiana, I tried to tag everyone but Ghes is in a rather unreachable position... perhaps come up with some anti-chroniton stuff?>

The message that come through was barely audible and broken up though the Vulcan had already began preparing for an assault. His phasor in his right hand and his tricorder in the left and looking for a defendable position nearby, "this way," he stated trying to get the Bajoran's attention. Lenaris nodded followed Muroc as he ran to a outcrop of boulders and stopped pressing himself close to the red surface, "three life forms, the insectoids, approaching from the thee o'clock," he offered as his tricorder ticked away the information, "they seem to be approaching and will be in between us and the Captain if we don't act now."
Moving cautiously he moved to his left trying to cut the approaching hostiles from the a another direction hoping any stray fire, if any, would miss the superior officers and his partner in security. His eyes could barely detect phasor fire as it whizzed near him, too close and some was directed towards his fellow security officer. For a moment he let the firing continue trying to calculate where the source of the shooting was. Taking a chance he fired into the ruddy space between them then heard a distant thud. He hoped the sound was that of an insectoid falling. Whether it was the shooter or not Muroc didn't know.

Trevor had reached the bridge and the door to the turbo lift had deposited him at its entrance. he walked on and glanced about finally letting his gaze settle on the spinning red sphere on the viewscreen. Within a few stride he had made his way to the tactical/security console and began examining the information coming in.
"Energy weapons fire on the surface," he announced, "it is located near the point of entry and there seems to be four federation signatures in the vicinity. He began pressing several controls and continued to report, "Signal Jamming is in use. I suggest an immediate beam out."

Gheskori saw a figure collapse in the distance, a dark angular form just visible through the haze of beige-orange dust. Keeping low, he ran as fast as he was able to the location. The firing seemed to have stopped for now. Perhaps the insectoids were redeploying, shifting to get a better a firing position. He hoped not; he hoped they'd called a cease fire.
Prone before him - propped against the rocky outcrop - was an insectoid, its carapace near-jet black, a smouldering ruin in its chest where a phaser blast had struck home.
Ensign Muroc sprang out from behind the rock, his phaser levelled at Gheskori, "Freeze!" He saw instantly that it was the CO and lowered his rifle apologetically.
"Satisfactory, Ensign," the Denobulan acknowledged, likewise lowering his phaser and scanning about for Walters. He'd lost the engineer back there. He looked back at the dead insectoid, feeling disgusted at the turn of events. An awful stench was emanating from its fatal wound. "This has just made the diplomatic process... 100 times more complex. I don't see how we - "
He didn't finish the sentence as a phaser beam about a foot's length in cross-section screamed into the vicinity. Ghes and Muroc went flying, propelled by the force of the blast rather than suffering direct hits. Ghes hit the ground and rolled through the dust, fortunately finding himself now sheltered behind a larger outcrop. He felt unharmed, but there was probably a substantial amount of adrenaline blocking the pain of wounds he'd suffered, and there was now a terrible ringing in his ears.
"It would appear the insectoids have repositioned themselves, Ensign," Ghes called out. He had no idea where Muroc was, or if he was even still active. He glanced around the outcrop, trying to espy the phaser impact point through the dispersing dust. It wasn't long before he could see the insectoid had been completed dismembered in the blast. The result was rather messy. Perhaps the strike had been intended to stop the away team from taking the dead alien up to the ship.
"Walters, where the hell are you?" he heard Lenaris comming the CEO - likely hoping beyond hope that the transmission would get through the jamming field. Had the engineer got further than they'd anticipated?
<Tag Walters>
Ghes rose unsteadily to his feet, bracing himself against the large outcrop. No way their virtual new enemy would be able to fire through this one. He took a moment to regain his composure - his head was still ringing from the blast, suggestions of stars sparkling in his visual field. Had this... Had this been too much of a show of force? Had he played it all wrong? "We've come to negotiate!" he cried out as loud as he could, "Do you want this war ended or not?!"
He hoped the desperate plea would be heard. But he needed insurance, =/\= Enzio, this is the Captain. If you can get through the sensor blind, an immediate beam out would be rather prudent about now. =/\=
<Tag Matthew, O'Mannin> - NOTE: The beam out is to be successful, but we only succeed in bringing up 2 of the 4 in the away team. Who gets stuck on the surface is up to you. ;D

Ghes was on the verge of collapse. He was again bracing himself against the rock, fearing that any second now he'd feel the full pain of his injuries. The adrenaline would drop away, flooding from his body, and the burns from the insectoids' phaser cannon would make themselves known.
"Any time now, Enzio..." he murmured. He knew the bridge crew were doing all they could to get the away team back to the ship, but not being there himself was making it very frustrating. Next time - despite his knowledge of the negotiation process with the insectoids in this case - Matthew was leading the away team.
As the insectoids formed an implacable sable wall some twenty metres ahead of them - arrayed on the lip of the hill, the sapphire spire of their citadel gleaming in the background - the dust seemed to part in the air, cut from the sky as if it were a curtain and this was nothing more than the stage of a theatre, upon which his own surreal dreams were being played out.
In the moment of experiencing this disconnection, the beam-out came. He and three figures of varying posture around him - the furthest of which was virtually right next to where the insectoids had formed their line - were engulfed in pearly columns of light. When the breeze of cerulean faded from sight, Ghes still found himself in the midst of the rust-red surreal landscape, the dark sentinels of the insectoids a harsh jagged line before him.
"Sir, get down!" It was Ensign Lenaris's voice. He did as suggested.
A lance of laser fire - lighting up the atmosphere - passed a mere metre above his head. His head darted around to track its progress, and just witnessed it impacting in a small depression. Once the dust had diffused from the area, he saw the depression had become a blackened pit in the ground.
"The others, Lenaris!" Ghes had ducked behind his outcrop again. He drew his phaser, his hand shaking, which was most unlike him.
"The ship got them, sir. We've been left behind," the Bajoran security officer reported back. It seemed the comm blanket had been lifted. Lenaris had apparently gone into hiding, having used her commbadge and barely whispered in her response. Ghes couldn't see her, and neither apparently could the insectoids. Slowly, with a methodical purpose to their gait, the insectoids had began spreading across the slope of this part of the hill, searching for the two remaining Starfleet officers.
"Gheskori to Enzio. Nice try Commander, but you only got half of us." Gheskori spoke as he watched a trio of insectoids approching his position. "Recommend you find a way to utilise the transporters to get us up there, or send down O'Mannin with a full security detail. See about sending a marine detachment as well."
<Tag Matthew, O'Mannin>
He could only hope the comm had got through, but he had no more time to think about it. "I am Captain Gheskori of the Federation starship Enzio. As per our communication prior to reaching your system, we state we have come to mediate negotiations to end this war between you and your neighbours." He had his phaser clutched close as he called out, the words propagating across the whole plain with an almost painful clarity. The silence was numbing, broken as it was only occasionally, by a skittering of dust in the breeze or by the crunch of insectoid carapace on the ground.
"This is Julakra, chief deputy to our consulate on the enemy's world," a voice came surprisingly in return. "Throw down your weapons or we will saturate this area with weapons fire. If you comply you'll be escorted to our headquarters."
"Very well," Ghes wiped his brow, sighing as he lowered his phaser an inch. Why the distrust? he thought. This all could've been avoided if they'd simply let them approach.
As he stepped out of cover, the trio of insectoids brought their weapons up and let loose a salvo of rapid fire laser bolts. They then retreated. Ghes found Lenaris falling in alongside him, and they both watched as the insectoids fell into the distance, melding into the dust as they returned towards their HQ. Ghes threw his phaser down in frustration. "What the hell?!"
They lay there prone, just peering over the lip of the depression at the dark shapes of the insectoids and how they all seemed to be falling back to their citadel. "Any idea what's going on here, Captain?" Lenaris inquired.
"None. I can only surmise they want us to approach their HQ." He shook his head, thoughts turning momentarily to the ship. He hoped Muroc and Walters were uninjured. He didn't have any idea what state they might be in; it'd been pretty manic just before the beam-out attempt had come. "Let's get going, Ensign. Stay low and on your guard." As if she needed to be told...
<Tag Saryn/Savin, Walters> - Walters and Ensign Muroc were beamed straight to sickbay

OOC: Sorry all, have been suffering with a lot of work and a lack of inspiration.
Tiana had managed to grab a nap and had ensured that her staff had done the same. Research was still going on. Anti-chronitons were very interesting and under-studied things. There was definitely going to be a set of papers in this when they had finished.
She was busy updating herself on the results of the research. There were a few more tweaks to make to the shields and the sensors, but the Enzio was in better shape than she had ever been. There were more experiments running and data was coming in faster than the analysis programmes could keep up. It was a moment that Tiana felt on top of things.
There was a sizzling sounds and the lights in Tiana's office dimmed for a moment.
"Don't worry just a localised temporary fluctuation. We found the resonance point for self-assembly" Kayln shouted excitedly. Tiana sighed and got to her feet, so much for being on top of things, she would have to find out what was going on.

The security chiefs began all the calculations to prepare the ship for battle and try to figure out how to get the four on the planet back to the relative safety of the ship. Noting in his straining had prepared him well enough for the scenario he found himself in and though his mind raced and his heart felt ill outwardly he showed no sign of the inner stress he was experiencing.
It was he who engaged the Red Alert system that was the easy part, the hard part was excepting the failure he was feeling. If this would have happened with the Cardassians he would have been eliminated, but not until after they had found the mot painful ways to make him suffer to the point the human would have begged for the release death.
As he pressed the necessary commands in to raise the shields he moved away from the controls and pressed his comm. badge, “Shields up sir and on my way to the Transporter room,” Understood and on my way to the transporter room,” he said before cutting of the connection and starting a new conversation.
“Kissinger, K’Tol, th'Zarath, and Griffin,” meet me in the transporter now,” he said stepping through the doors to the turboilt, “prepare to beam into a hostile environment. We will be taking enemy fire O’Mannin out.”
The door had barely slid open before he burst from the small room on a hot run towards the transporter room. He stopped just in front of the doors and waited the second for the door to open before walking briskly in and view the empty chamber. Trevor’s face was anything but happy. Somehow he had hoped that his crew would be there ready to beam out but not a single person other than the transporter chief was present.
Only a moment later four security officers came in as eager to go as he way. Kissenger shot his superior a look that said far too much about his self-confidence than Trevor liked but he kept his mouth shut knowing this was not the time for lectures. All three were carrying cases of supplies and each was ready to do his job. Without a word they set their loads down and began to remove their contents. There were four compression phaser rifles and helmets for each,
“These should do the Trick,” Kissenger said as he patted the side of his rifle.
K’Tol was a sullen as ever, his emotions as unmoving as his dark hair, “the helmets should give us a visual advantage he offered.
O’Mannin took the help and slapped it on his head then got the rifle, “ok,” he barked as he moved into position, “be ready for a red hostile world,” he muttered then glanced over at Kissinger, “you wanted to be part of the away team, you are now.” There was only a moment’s hesitation before he said, “formation alpha on landing. I’ll give more orders as we evaluate the situation.”
“Get us in,” he said nodded to the transporter chief.
Trevor’s eyes began scanning as they materialized and he hunched down a lower. Energy discharges could be seen almost immediately and he looed about the through the reddened air, “ok no hero’s today,” he offered. Find our crew and let’s get out of here.”

Ghes glared up at the pinnacle of the insectoid's HQ. It glinted in the light of the red day, almost invitingly, seeming possessed of a secret magic. It was clearer than it had been before. "Is it me or is the dust clearing?"
He waited for the Bajoran to catch up. She had been protecting their rear, it being more important as they were scanning the terrain ahead intensively anyway, taking pains to avoid any insectoid groups as they approached the citadel.
"I don't know..." she muttered, her eyes searching for something else as she scanned the land below. They'd reached the conclusion that the Enzio was unable to transport them up, which meant Commander Matthew was pursuing a physical rescue mission. O'Mannin would have or would be beamed to the closest available position. Not knowing the current dimensions of the dust clouds and atmospheric material above - that were obscuring the surface from the ship's sensors - it was impossible for Ghes and Lenaris to know where he would beam down.
They stepped into the courtyard situated in front of the headquarters. This time there was a welcoming party: Seven insectoids arranged in a diamond formation. The carapace-shelled being at its tip greeted them, the universal translator processing its hail perfectly. Ghes recognised him as the consulate deputy who had spoken before; it was hard to forget his voice's gravelly insistence.
Gheskori repeated what he'd said on the plain. The insectoids were at first impassive, but eventually the deputy, Julakra, spoke again. "The war in the north has not gone well in recent days. Just this morning, our enemy used a temporal device that wrote our plasma weapons out of history. We're now only equipped with simple laser weapons, Captain Gheskori. I hope you can comprehend that giving up our part in the hostilities won't be easy." There was pointed indignation in the insectoid's words; everything was pronounced exactly, with a needling hostility.
The insectoid diamond disintegrated before his eyes, the angular black forms drawing off at random. Their smoky shapes made for the gates of the citadel's interior. Ghes shrugged at Lenaris, following the aliens into their abode.

Lieutenant Markov was the duty operations officer, standing in for the chief who was of course also the acting XO, and who was sitting in the bridge's centre chair. Markov had just helped ensure the safe arrival of O'Mannin's team on the planet's surface. He was doing his best to keep tabs on the team's lifesigns but the atmosphere had already started to interfere with his scans.
Now a new problem presented itself. Something was happening to the system's asteroid belt. He checked himself and looked at the console again - this was very hard to accept. The asteroid field - lying between this world and the outer uninhabited planet - was uncoiling itself from its stellar orbit, heading out of the system towards galactic north. The only thing that made it believable was that he'd read of something similar having happened recently. He tried to recall where that was... The USS Sabretooth... and an article in a scientific journal.
"Sir, the asteroid belt." Markov put an image of the wayward asteroids on the viewscreen for Commander Matthew. "I don't understand, sir." The starlight reflected by the asteroids seemed to dim then. Markov's words gained in incredulity, "And the sun... Its power output has just halved."

As Trevor materialized on the planet his eyes took in the red world’s haze but saw nothing, “stay close,” he ordered, “I don’t want a repeat of our last visit.”
The Vulcan was studying his tricorder with eyes dark, not just from their color, “Lieutenate,” he began, “I have found the two federation life forms less than twenty meters ahead of us moving away towards a structure, they seem to be following a group of unidentified life forms towards it.
“Not good,” the security chief replied,
The genetically altered human tapped his comm badge, “Lieutenant Omannin to Gheskori and Lenaris keep your location. We can’t get a transporter lock on you.”
Whether the pair could hear or not he wasn’t certain and his neutral wording should have indicated a lack of hostility only a concern for the two’s safety. He glanced over at Kissenger who looked more like a lioness on the hunt than an officer on a rescue mission. It almost made him smile but the situation didn’t warrant any humor.
“K’Tol you take point, lead the way towards them. Kissenger your with him. Griffen and I will take up the rear, go” O’Mannin ordered hoping for the worse but expect to find himself in more hot water than a lobster in a pot.

It took ten minutes to wind their way through the structure to its central chamber. Ghes gasped, not at the size of the place which was impressive, but at the colour of it. Everything was bedecked in burnished gold. Amulets and gems of several gaudy hues were interspersed amongst the finery, lending the place an almost lurid aura. The chamber extended up through the central spire, ending in a needle-thin shaft through which filtered the red light of the atmosphere. Ghes guessed that another twenty metres of the spire lay above the ceiling.
The deputy was perched on a rather grandiose golden chair at the far end of the room. His dark form leant forward, seeming quite out of place upon something that was almost akin to a throne. "We're willing to begin negotiations," his voice scratched, "Our people are in need, Captain. Any rations, medical equipment and military supplies would be gladly accepted in return for us making a first move on the negotiating table."
"We were hoping to instigate a temporary cease fire, as a first move and a sign of trust," Ghes said, stepping forward. He needed to be forthright and ambitious with this temperamental race.
"That won't be possible. We have meagre defence against the humanoids now and need everything we can get. We're not willing to stop hostilities completely, simply because we cannot trust our enemy to do the same."
"I was wondering" Lenaris said. Ghes tried to stop her but it was too late. "How did you know you had plasma weapons before, if your history has been rewritten to replace them with lasers? How can you remember your old history?" She seemed genuinely curious but Ghes was far from happy. Security officers did not make good negotiators. The insectoid though seemed unmoved by the provocative question.
"The rewriting only took place in localised areas. My entourage arrived in this region and had to tell the local security forces that their weapons were inferior. They accepted it without question. We as a race have come to expect the unexpected. History is rewritten before our blinded eyes... Plus they saw us with these," he held aloft a lethal looking rifle. It had a spiked maw and a blue power cell bolted onto its top surface.
"Our plasma weapons once seared the flesh from our enemies. Nothing could diminish their firepower, except time." The insectoid held it out and an aide moved to take it away, already the product of a past era, torn from their timeline's violated pages.
The light filtering from above dimmed noticeably, stepping down in discrete levels but seeming to pulse and vibrate at the same time, if that were possible. "Prophecies and portents, Captain Gheskori." The insectoid's voice was heavy with fatalism.
Before Ghes could ask what was happening the insectoid rose from its chair, creaking towards the centre of the chamber and looking up at the ceiling. "Your ship will know what's happening. Before, far from here..." The insectoid seemed lost in thought, miles, light years away from the conversation in the lurid chamber. Ghes narrowed his eyes, trying to understand the cryptic words, but the insectoid snapped back to the room. "Anyway, we could really do with your help, Captain. Please, our people are in dire need of assistance..."

Scene: Bridge, USS ENZIO, in orbit of planet
Cmdr Matthew told the ensign at OPS, "Continue monitoring the Away team Communications
Matthew Bridge to sickbay Doctor Savin when you get the time could you let me know What the Condition of Commander Walters & Ensign Muroc Bridge out
Matthew was just about to Contact Cmdr. Galwyn Down in Stellar Cartography/Astrometrics Lab when the comm. channel opened,
[Engineering to Bridge. Commander Matthew, I got your external Communications up and running for now.
Oh and by the way, interesting job reconfiguring the deflector array. It might be helpful to let us know what's going on beforehand since Commander Walters had schedule a system Check for the entire ship comm. Systems
The sounds of the Away Team continued to come over the Comm. channel. Matthew
moved in his Command chair, a sign of impatience. This was one of the few times when he wasn't in the thick of battle or the action, and he was finding it difficult to handle.
"Are you okay sir?" Ensign Xara said, a note of casual observance in his voice tinged with a slight air of amusement.
Cmdr. Matthew Yes ensign
"Ops officer Commander, we are receiving some Strange sensor readings coming from asteroid belt
Cmdr. Matthew Let I see it on the main Screen reading over the sensor readings
He Taps His Comm. Badge Bridge to Stellar Cartography Commander Galwyn Are you getting theses reading Down there we cant make out just what going on at one point it looks like some astronomical oddities. Are forming we have been looking over the USS Sabre tooth Sensors log they report
"The Sabre tooth report after they dropped out of warp there was a gas giant located inside the asteroid belt, its diameter was seventh times the size of the star itself Then it disappeared Moments later How can that be commander.

There was no reply to the genetically altered humans hails. Either they were unable to answer or unable to receive the transmission. In either case the situation seemed to be growing more desperate by the minute.
“O’Mannin to Commander Matthew,” we know there location, they appear to have been taken prisoner and taken inside of some structure. Request permission to begin a rescue. Please prepare for emergency beam out once we have them.”
Nothing but static came back across the comm. The chief of security looked for a moment over at the rest of his team and nodded, “we’re going in. Kissenger it’s your lucky day. He looked at the Vulcan standing next to the massive human, “K’Tol, keep us informed as to what life forms you see.” He then addressed the group, “were going in. Identify your targets first then fire at will.” He paused for a moment with a look of determination, “let’s get our captain back.”
“Time to squish some bugs,” Kissenger said with far too much enthusiasm.
The group moved forward quickly across the red surface towards the strange structure where Trevor assumed both the Captain and his security officer were being held. Their signature was inside surrounded by insectoids. Without any know way to contact those who held them there seemed no other alternative than to extract them by force.
Kissenger was the first to pull his trigger as they entered the structure and encountered the first insectoid. The broad smile on his face made Trevor more than a little uneasy yet this was not the time to chastise the man, they needed to stay focus as the continued forward.
The group continued their incursion into the building using corridor walls to protect them as the met resistance to their efforts. The dark skinned human was always the first to fire. Trevor would not have thought much about it had he not known how eager he was for a fight.
“Come and get it you damn bugs,” Kissenger said in a low tone, “you know you want it.”
“Easy Kissenger,” Trevor warned, “we are here to extract out people not start a galactic war.”

There was a collection of coffee (and other caffeinated beverage) cups building on the sides of the science lab. So much was depending on them.
=/\=Commander Galwyn Are you getting theses readings?=/\= It was Commander Matthews up on the bridge, Tiana suppressed her irritation, what more could this system throw at them? =/\=Commander Galwyn here=/\= =/\=Down there we cant make out just what going on at one point it looks like some astronomical oddities.=/\= Tiana brought up the data. There certainty were some very unusual features to it
=/\=The Sabre tooth report after they dropped out of warp there was a gas giant located inside the asteroid belt, its diameter was seventh times the size of the star itself Then it disappeared Moments later How can that be Commander?=/\=
=/\=Off the top of my head I can think of six, no, seven possible mechanisms that might be responsible. I will give you some more information as soon as I have it. Galwyn out.=/\=
Tiana's tone was clipped as she cut the comm link. She was a scientist and miraculous happens were her stock in trade but she could not produce them instantly.
"Martha, here. I need your eyes on this data." The head of Stella Cartography hurried across the lab to Tiana's side.
"Everyone, twenty minutes and then we're having a board session. there's so many things going on here that they can't be independent we need to find the links and fast."

"What?!" the insectoid's voice screeched across the chamber. The sound of it was more a scratch than a vocalisation, like metal screeching against metal.
"They have pierced the inner chambers, consul. Only four concentric defences remain. Our guards are no match with their laser weapons." the aide reported apologetically. Ghes darted back and forth between the two aliens, growing increasingly worried at what this might mean for he and Astrel Lenaris.
"If we had plasmic cannons we could vapourise them in five seconds!" the consul roared. "Deputy, secure these two 'guests'. At this time, under no circumstances are they allowed to be freed."
"Those are my people." Ghes stood his ground. "I can get them to stop, if you give me the chance."
"No! You'll remain here until our negotiation process with the enemy is resolved. And as for your ship, it will be ordered to leave the region immediately. My superiors won't allow a foreign starship in orbit, deploying soldiers near our HQ under the pretense of peace."
<Tag Matthew & Ship>
Ghes spluttered in response, starting a reply but the consul cut him off. "And I thought you were here to help! Your would-be rescuers have destroyed any chance of peaceful settlement. See those?" the consul indicated points around the room's circumference. "Automated turrets, Captain. Your rescuers kill our soldiers, we kill your rescuers if they try to enter this chamber. Guards." The consul nodded to a group of heavily-armed black-carapaced insectoids, who stepped forward and grabbed Ghes and Lenaris.
They were led respectfully but firmly away from the chamber. They passed through dim passageways - the light getting darker and darker, a malevolent red glow leaking into the place from the external atmosphere - into what Ghes assumed was a secure area of the base. The corridors took on an almost catacomb-like quality, increasingly disorganised and labrynthine with clutter everywhere. Echoes of lost ages resonated here. History was rewritten daily, but somehow some of it was preserved.
"This is a null zone, Commodore Gheskori," the lead guard squeaked, seeing Ghes's interest. "Temporal effects have no dominion here. But consequently it's ill-kept. Everything around is constantly rewritten; within exist relics of bygone ages."
"Right..." Ghes murmured, eyeing the antiquated weapons hanging from mounts on the close walls. Lenaris comprehended his look and made a move for one of the dark guns, but Ghes shook his head sharply, mouthing 'No.'
Passing through this null-zone, Ghes and Lenaris were finally put up in a pair of cells - barely habitable. There were two portals looking out on the red hill-side, but both were barred and forcefielded. Of interest though, was the sky above that hellish red plain. The air grew darker; desperate, devoid of vitality and energy. Somehow, in the heavens the Harlequin star was dying.

Sickbay was buzzing with activity. Savin was running back and forth between his research, the replicated medication (which was quite toxic to most of the Enzio's population, but Vulcans in particular). His uniform was smudged with undefinable fluids, powders and whatnot, and he seemed a little tired but he kept running.
When Walters and an ensign unknown to him were transported straight onto a biobed, he flagged for a nurse to attend to the ensign, while he moved straight for Walters, to take care of his injuries. "Easy Will," he tried to soothe, pressing a hand to the man's chest, careful to stay clear of the severe burns. A mask was slipped over his patient's face to help him breathe easier, while Savin worked to carefully cut away the chief engineer's uniform. Some parts were stuck to the skin so severely, he had to cut around them, then make them wet to safely remove them without doing further damage.
It took several minutes for the most severe burns to be taken care of, and only when he was certain that Walters was no longer in any danger, did the young Vulcan relax a little. He waved a nurse over to finish bandaging. "When he regains consciousness, make sure he is provided with water and nutrients. I believe...and old drink called Aquarius will sufficiently replace his electrolytes."
The nurse nodded and quickly went to replicate the requested drink, setting a plastic bottle on the tray beside the bed.
Meanwhile, Savin moved back to his research. "Sickbay, bridge," he called, tapping his combadge. "We are making headway on replicating the medications to sufficient quantities to have any use sir." His voice shook a little, betraying his exhaustion. He hadn't slept in several hours, and the last time he'd stopped to eat was even longer ago. "Also, I believe that in a few hours we may have a breakthrough in finding an antidote to the neuro toxin sir. Meanwhile, Doctor Savin is held in stasis, until we know for certain we have what we need to save his life. Stasis was necessary, because he was suddenly making a turn for the worse sir."

“Keep down Kissenger,” Trevor ordered over the head gears intercom. The security chief was already low to the ground trying to avoid the insectoids fire. His uniform already looked like a it had seen more than one dangerous mission from near misses that charred the fabric and as he flattened himself against the walls they were becoming covered in dust too. Many of the markings he had cut through the fabric and sear his skin beneath though he said nothing about it. He had a mission to do, rescue the captain and his security officer, and he intended to do it at whatever personal cost.
The large dark skinned human all but ignored the Lieutenant’s orders and pressed on deeper into the cavernous passages only ducking slightly as he did. He drew most of the shots but managed to look unscathed compared to his superior counterpart who seemed to be the magnate this time the strays.
The Vulcan kept an eye on his tricorder as if hoping to find the information he wanted and not finding it then he spoke, “Lieutenant I think I have them he stated, “there in a holding area fifty meters down.”
“Ok,” O’Mannin said with a hint of satisfaction, “we need to clear the path to them but we are getting pretty deep in here and from what I can tell into areas not normally used.” He glanced around and let of a shot at an adversary as he rounded a corner, though he missed the insectoid but not by much. Again the creature rounded the corner and this time Trevor’s aim was perfect bringing them down as the slid against the wall to the floor. He checked to insure he was still on the stun setting not wanting to cause any more trouble than necessary. “We need to stay alive too,” he added, “continue to use the stun settings but stay low and cautious.”
Kissenger’s face took on a look of disgust as he heard the command, “just let me blast them to…”
“Enough Kissenger,” Trevor barked, “you will continue using the stun settings and you will not do any random shooting just for the sake of shooting. We have a mission and we are going to do it.”
With his last words he saw a soldier step around the corner just in front of the dark skinned man and level a volley towards them. The Chief of Security lunged forward hoping to get a shot in before the insectoid but was too slow and the strike hit Kissenger squarely in the back.
Griffen quickly removed his tricorder and did a scan on the now motionless man. His head shook as he raised his eyes towards Trevor, “he’s gone,” the officer stated calmly. The man’s eyes widened and O’Mannin looked in time to get off another shot at an insectoid striking them in the torso.
“Good shot,” Griffen admonished, “what do we do about kissenger?”
“We get him to sickbay,” Trevor stated flatly and tapped his com badge, O’Mannin to Enzio. Kissenger has been hit. Requesting an emergency beam out directly to sickabay.”
There was a little static but not enough that the man figured they could not be heard.
(Tag anyone)
As kissenger vanished he turned to the group Trevor took in a deep breath, “we can’t stay here,” O’Mannin stated as he continued to engage the enemy, “K’Tel keep us informed as to where we need to go.”
The Vulcan nodded and made his scan again, “ahead about one hundered meters,” he replined.
Trevor nodded, “Griffen you will have to cover the rear by yourself. I am taking Kissenger’s spot.”
There was only token resistance as they moved but Trevor was glad for that. Finally they came to a large door sealed securely and it became obvious he would need to shoot his way through it. “Cover me,” he ordered as he changed the settings on his phasor rifle and prepared to shoot. As the intense beam struck the door it blew inward but not far leaving a hole large enough they could press through individually. He blasted it again making a larger hole and burst forward only to stop and pier inside. As he suspected two guards awaited him on each side and he quickly eliminated one and treated back out of the opening. The burst from the others weapon struck his knee sending him sprawling to the ground in pain though at the moment he felt little of the damage. On the ground near Trevor’s head another shot struck leaving a small crater. Griffen had moved up and sent a beam towards the guard that brought the armored man down.
“You alright sir,” Griffen asked. He came through the hole and K’Tel followed suit.
The Vulcan scanned the area, “ they are directly ahead about twenty yards,” he stated, “no insectoids registering here.”
“Ok,” Trevor said, “we move forward.” He glanced around again not trusting the tricorder readings and then broke into a run until he reached the next defendable position ahead of them.
He kept himself low and near the wall until he reached the cell where Lenaris was. He put his hand to his mouth as she caught sight of him but she spoke anyway not seeing his gesture soon enough.
“Lieutenant,” she blurted and the firing began again. The shot struck the woman knocking her farther back into her cell.
Trevor hit the ground and rolled away as Griffen fired another volley striking the man.”
In the quiet that followed the security chiefs face took on a more anguished look, “Lenaris,” he said in a loud whisper the turned to the Vulcan, “see if you can’t get in there and help her.”
K’Tel nodded and began scanning the cells door hoping to find a way in.
“Blow it open if you have to we don’t have much time,” he stated then turned to see Ghes in the adjacent one, “Griffen,” he ordered cover is, then turned his attention to his commanding officer, “were getting you out captain he stated as she stood next to the cell door.

Ghes heard the sound of commotion outside the room containing the block of cells. Actually, commotion was an understatement... There was a full-fledged firefight taking place. The insectoids that'd stood like dark avatars around the cells had sprung away to the block's main entrance, outside other exits to take up better firing positions, or creeped into the shadows where they fell out of sight. Gheskori was drenched in sweat. The climate of this world, the stress he was under and the physical exertion of being marched around this citadel and the plains outside had taken their toll. He sagged against the cell door as the criss-crossing of phaser and laser light came closer, and before long heard the approach of booted Starfleet officers. He heard Ensign Lenaris calling out, followed by the sound of a wet impact in her vicinity, then further shouts and hollering of orders and shooting across the cell area. "Lieutenant..." Ghes could barely manage, seeing O'Mannin. The CTSO had gone to great lengths to rescue his CO which was commendable, but - "Were getting you out captain" he stated as Griffen stood next to the cell door. Understanding, the Captain retreated to the other side of the cell, out of line of the door. It exploded inwards in a burst of energy, propelling metallic shards and fragments into the cell. Ghes shielded his eyes as they rebounded around the chamber like a storm of rapiers, and was then helped from the cell. Lenaris was the first port of call. Her body was only semi-salvageable. "Do we take her with us? The transporters won't work this far inside the citadel," he sagged against Griffen, barely able to stand. "You have a lot to explain for this, Lieutenant O'Mannin. How many dead?" "Just Kissenger. Well, not yet." He thought he could hear the steel in Trevor's voice, to be expected he thought. "No, I meant..." Ghes continued, almost embarrassed but feeling righteous indignation at O'Mannin's intervention. This had totally ruined the negotiaton prospects, and that was an understatement. "How many insectoids dead? How many did you eliminate during this rescue op?" <Tag Trevor> - OOC: No need to copy your tagger's post into your reply btw They ducked through the caverns, catacombs, the light steadily becoming less constricting. One of O'Mannin's team supported Ghes, while Trevor and the other guard/s scouted ahead. They came across stray insectoids, less than they'd expected. Eventually they passed outside the null zone, and Ghes was shocked at what he saw. The whole chamber, ornate pillars to luridly-coloured surfaces, had been entirely flattened. Masses of detritus lay across the still intact marble flooring. There were glimpes of the atmosphere outside, the red sky leaking into the chamber mournfully, through blast holes singing sad notes with the wind that formed the shell of the former chamber. "Wait... something's rewritten history." It occurred to Ghes. He stood upright, shrugging off Griffen's support. Something was moving amongst the wreckage on the floor, a slow-writhing black-carapace.

“Were not leaving anyone behind,” Trevor stated slightly surprised that the idea was even mentioned, “I’ll carry her out if need be.”
He listened to his CO talk and his choice of words did not seem to flattering, how many crew lost, how many enemy killed, all questions that seemed to resonate with disapproval.
Trevor kept calm knowing losing his temper would not help the situation and if they were too deep to transport out they would have to fight their way back up until they could.
Our weapons were set to stun sir,” he replied, “I will be happy to discuss my actions with you sir once we get you to the ship but every moment we spend in here the more dangerous it is.”
As they advanced the resistance was much lighter than O’Mannin expected and from time to time he would glance back to see how his Ghes was managing. He wasn’t fairing much better though failure was not an option.
In amazement Trevor glanced around at the damaged interior and shook his head, “this wasn’t this way when we came through here.”
He looked over at K’Tal with a questioning eye, “any readings… which way is the safest?”
The Vulcan raised his eyebrows, “fascinating,” he remarked but said nothing else as his eyes caught sight of the writhing blackness on the floor.
"Wait... something's rewritten history." It occurred to Ghes.
Trevor watched with concern as he heard the man speak. Things seemed wrong, out of sorts and without question altered from what they should be. The ruins that surrounded them was incredible considering no sounds of the destruction and there seemed to be no immediate answer for how hit had occurred.
“Do you think they can beam us out now Captain,” Trevor asked as he cautiously watched he blackness moving, “the longer we are here the more damage we may be causing to the time line.”

“Do you think they can beam us out now Captain,” Trevor asked as he cautiously watched he blackness moving, “the longer we are here the more damage we may be causing to the time line.”
"Who are you?!" the buried form snarled, already aware of their presence. It was insectoid, but not a tone of voice Ghes recognised. "You did this?"
"No. I'm Captain Gheskori of the Enzio and these are my officers. We - or I - have been in your citadel for the last several hours, negotiating."
If it was possible for an insectoid's face to register confusion, Ghes was sure the alien had that face now. "I know nothing of you... You've ended any chance for peace between our peoples with that cowardly attack, nine months ago. What are you doing here now, scavening?" The insectoid rose up jerkily - obviously injured - debris scraping free from his near-metallic surface. His head cocked, terrible realisation falling upon him, "Oh... History, rewritten again. You came to negotiate and this fortress was intact, yes?" Ghes and co nodded. "In my timeline, this facility was destroyed nine months ago. Insectoid civilisation is on its knees. Meanwhile the humanoid enemy has struck where they've never dared, or never had the ability to before. Most of our HQs have been ground to dust, by their unforgiving time instruments."
"Sir, forgive me I don't the nature of your timeline, but we were not here nine months ago. And we'd never carry out such an attack."
"I don't believe you. You will.... Die! Now!" The insectoid - though damaged - moved towards them at alarming speed, a cruel absurdly ornate dagger in his hand.
Ghes glanced across at Trevor, "You're right. We should go."
"Let's get out through one of those holes, to the exterior. Beam out should be no problem." Griffen led the way up a slope of rubble, trying to get outside. Gheskori lagged behind as they made their exit. His former anger, no, rage with O'Mannin had subsided slightly. The jarring dislocation in timelines; this sureal world of sudden confrontation with the death of a society, had cast a new desperate light on events. They needed to find out the reason for what was taking place in orbit, and to the Harlequin star.

"Commander Matthew..." Ghes said, emerging on to the bridge looking worse for wear. "It seems our goal to end the war has improved slightly. The humanoids are on the verge of victory after their latest temporal attack. It seems they found a way to mask their use of anti-chronitons, else Tiana would've detected it... Brief me on this asteroid belt, and the star. Is it related to the temporal weapon usage?"
He left the XO to ponder their conversation while he turned stiffly to O'Mannin. "I'll meet you in my ready room in 15 minutes." Ghes's intent was clear. "First I'm contacting the humanoid authorities. Hopefully they'll see the sense in halting their attacks, before their temporal meddlings cause any more mess."
