"I Demand to speak to the captain, this is an outrrages accusation, i have done nothing wrong" One of the station security offciers made as if to speak, but Tiberian killed any desire with a withering glare. Mere moments later, three marines trooped into the transporter room. "I demand that this criminal be confined in your brig immediately" the secuity chief said in a loud voice. Tiberian wasn't fazed he knew the law. "Now look here, this is a highly reputable Starfleet officer on a highly reputable Starfleet vessel. You have no aiuthority to make demands, and General Order 25 states that the Commander has the rights afforded to her rank, she goes to her quarters until this bull charge is thrown out" The security officers moved in to flank their chief, but simultaneously the marines backed up Tiberian, hands on phasers. Before anything particularly ugly could happen, the Captain arrived. “You're going to have to be confined to your quarters until this gets sorted out. But I trust it won't be long.” She glared slightly at the head of the group of station security, who shrugged casually. Tiberian nodded to two marines who promptly removed the Commander to her quarters, just as the station security beamed back. "Go find Lieutenant Kane and bring him to the Captain's ready room" Tiberian told the last marine, who then left. “Thank you for...taking care of some of this. I don't believe we have any trained legal representatives on our ship, so Commander Rylka will have to work with a public station representative, at least for the short time until we get this case dismissed" the Captain paused. "General Order 11 gives you the authority of a legal representative, but not the training. However, if this charge came from the station, I wouldn't trust the station representative as far as I could throw them. My recommendation ma'am, is that we see if Lieutenant Kane can corroborate the Commander's story, and then organise a staff briefing to see where we go from there. Shall we go ma'am"

Ralph Wigram had appeared absent for some time. He had been on LOA though the kind permission of the newly fully promoted Captain Cir'kem. Sickbay had held him, and the details were all there.
During his absense he had been transferred from one department to another, He had hoped his request had not seemed to unfair to the Captain and senior staff.
As he walked back to his quarters, he walked past many crew who wished him better and wished him well on his new position.
Just as he got to his quarters he saw his working jacket hanging on the wall, the jacket was a privilige for Chief Engineers, he stroked it.
Turning on his heal he almost ran to Engineering.
Wigram: "This is Lt Wigram, can all engineering staff report to engineering"
He waited in a nearby spare room until he thought most should have been in engineering. He walked in thorough the large doors. As he did so the crew were sprinkled on the lower level. He had almost forgotten how large his staff was. As a science officer it would be relativley small.
Wigram: I have called you all here to thankyou. As you know I am not moving ships, but probably more strangley, just departments. This is not to reflect on any of you. My deputy will fill in until a new CEO arrives, and dont worry I will tell him all of your good points, and quite a few of your bad ones. I thankyou, and thankyou again. It has been an honour to wear the gold colour of your department.
He turned and walked towards the door. suddenly a voice called out.
Crewman: Sir, we have something for you
The Crewman brought forward a piece of bulkhead about a foot across and 3/4 high. It had all the departments names engraved upon it with the USS Victory on top of it.
Wigram: Thankyou, thankyou all.
As he walked out with the inscibed bulkhead under one arm he wondered what he had done to earn it. He than walked directly to his quarters where his new blue uniform awaited.

“Right,” replied Nika, and tapped her commbadge. =/\=Nika to Kane, please meet me as soon as you can in my briefing room. It is an emergency.=/\= Nika nodded to Wong, and the two started walking toward the bridge and the briefing room.
As they were walking, Nika tapped her commbadge again. =/\=Nika to all senior staff except Commander Rylka=/\= Nika disliked the necessity of having to exclude her first officer, who was so obviously innocent. But the first officer was confined to her quarters, and Nika wanted to play by station rules so she could avoid casting doubt upon Commander Rylka. =/\=Emergency staff meeting in 15 minutes.=/\= Nika figured 15 minutes would be enough time for anyone who was sleeping to wake up and come to the meeting. And she couldn't delay it any more than that.
Nika and Wong arrived at the briefing room, and when Kane arrived she outlined the situation, and told how Commander Rylka thought he could help corroborate her story. Nika waited to see what he would say about that.

~~~~~
When 'most everyone had arrived, Nika started the meeting. “Commander Rylka has been falsely charged with murder. I've applied for a speedy trial and the pre-trail will be tomorrow morning. At this point the case should be dismissed for lack of evidence.” Nika turned to Lt. Wong, and nodded at him, in case he wanted to explain more, which was probably necessary. Nika would have preferred not to discuss the possibility that Commander Rylka would be guilty, or even really charged with that at all, but since she was being charged it was kind of inavoidable.
Tiffani had been in her quarters as ordered when she heard the Captain's call for a senior staff meeting, she scuffed and paced the floor. ~~~this wasn't right she thought to herself, she should be in that meeting not here in her quarters~~~ , she spun on her heals and made for the door, as it opened the two guards on either side quickly turned to face her, she sighed as the held there phasers upwardly.
*Return inside now* ordered the guard.
Tiffani was angry, she insisted on being in the meeting. it was about her afterall she had a right to be there *I should be in that meeting she bellowed outloud, this is not fair i have done nothing wrong*
*Return now* was all the guard said positioning his phaser to stun her if need be.
Tiffani looked to one guard and then the other, she scuffed, she would make sure they had unpleasant dutie rosters when she was cleared of charges. *Fine* she said *Tell the captain i Insist on speaking with her immediately* she stated and returned into her quarters
She paced the floors, she had to get out of the quarters, but how? she turned and went to her work station, she tried to bring up information about the diplomate, but the computer didn't accept her clearance code, she screamed out in frustation. she tapped her combadge that she had been allowed to keep with her due to her recent stress.
“Commander Rylka has been falsely charged with murder. I've applied for a speedy trial and the pre-trail will be tomorrow morning. At this point the case should be dismissed for lack of evidence.” the Captain announced once the briefing room was mostly full. "We should bear in mind however" Tiberian said once the Captain had finished "That it is doubtful that such an accusation would have been made without some manner of evidence, no matter how falsified. Now, the Captain already knows that no-one aboard this vessel is legally qualified, but all we really need is someone who is legally trained, given that the Captain has the authority to act as advocate. Is anyone here trained, or does anyone know of anyone in their department who is?"
<TAG Anyone>
Tiberian leaned in and spoke quietly to the Captain. "With your permission ma'am, I would like for myself and Science Officer Wigram to go over to the station and collect any evidence they have and bring it back for analysis. We can get some snooping done whilst we're over there as well"
<TAG Captain Cir'Kem>
As Tiberian stood to leave, he had a sudden thought, and leaned back to speak to the Captain. "It's also necessary to inform you ma'am, that if the pre-trial goes against us, and the thing is brought to full trial, we may have to surrender custody of Commander Rylka"
Ardawen was still hard at work, when his com-badge beeped: =/\=Nika to all senior staff except Commander Rylka, Emergency staff meeting in 15 minutes=/\=
Ardawen went to his feet and walked towards the briefing room, he was wondering, what was going on, and why was Commander Rylka not allowed to join the meeting he was sure he would hear it soon.
He was over thinking things so much that he got to the briefing room before he knew it. Without saying anything he sat down ready to overhear the captain.
When almost anyone was there, other captain began: “Commander Rylka has been falsely charged with murder. I've applied for a speedy trial and the pre-trail will be tomorrow morning. At this point the case should be dismissed for lack of evidence.”
Ardawen raised his eyebrow, and thinked for a moment, then he raised his hand.
"With your permission ma'am, I would like for myself and Science Officer Wigram to go over to the station and collect any evidence they have and bring it back for analysis. We can get some snooping done whilst we're over there as well"
“Sounds like a fine idea, so long as you don't do anything that can get you in serious trouble with the station authorities,” Nika warned, and glanced at Wigram, trying to see if he was all right with that idea. He was wearing science blue now, rather than engineering yellow. Nika was just delighted that he had decided to switch departments, rather than ships.
"It's also necessary to inform you ma'am, that if the pre-trial goes against us, and the thing is brought to full trial, we may have to surrender custody of Commander Rylka"
Nika looked back to make eye contact with Wong. “No, we don't,” she replied. “Because that's not going to happen.” She was aware that given the situation she may not be being the most realistic, but this situation wasn't exactly the most realistic. Nika didn't think having a first officer accused of murder was part of most captain training scenarios.
A security guard entered the meeting just then, and walked over to Nika. “Captain, sir,” he said softly. Nika wasn't sure why he was whispering, since it wasn't like he could minimize the disruption he was causing. “Commander Rylka asked me to telly you she wishes to speak to you immediately.”
Nika nodded, glanced around at the other officers, but many of them still seemed unsure of what to think, like they were absorbing the information. She sighed softly, and tapped her commbadge. =/\=Nika to Rylka, I'll be by as soon as I can.=/\= Nika realized as she finished that the tiniest bit of some of the stress she was feeling had leaked out, but she couldn't really help that now.
Ardawen, the CMO, raised his hand. “Sure,” she said. “And then I'll take one more question. After that anyone who wants to talk to me right now will have to talk with me privately,” she explained. They might also have to do some tracking down of her too, as Nika had a feeling she would be very busy, and would be rushing around the ship for quite a while still this evening, trying to sort things out.
Tiberian could understand the Captain's reluctance to face the worst case scenario, and so silently prayed that he would not have to say I told you so in the coming day. "Lieutenant Wigram, sir. Shall we?" Tiberian and the Lieutenant left the conference room, and headed directly for transporter room one. "What do you think on all this, sir?" Tiberian asked as he made his way down the corridor.
<TAG Lieutenant Wigram>
They entered the transporter room and were promptly beamed over to the station. They walked quickly through the station and into the security office. "I'm here to collect the evidence against Commander 1st Class Tifffani Rylka of the USS Victory" Tiberian said brusquely to the Tellarite on duty, who sat staring at him with a bemused smile on his face. "There's paperwork, and I need to consult with the chief of-" the Tellarite began procrastinating, rising from his seat, before Tiberian grabbed him roughly by the tunic. "Believe me boy" Tiberian spat "All the painful machinations of Satan and all his little wizards, will quail in comparison to five minutes alone with me" he picked something up from the desk "And this optilithic data rod, unless I get all that evidence right now" He released the Telarite who scuttled off, and returned moments late carrying a small duranium container. "The copies of the sensor logs are in here, along with the murder weapon, which I would advise you not to lose. We'll be needing that for the murder trial" The Tellarite was deliberately infuriating, and had Tiberian not been with a senior officer he might have done something else to merit a roasting from the Captain. As it was he snatched up the container and stormed out of the office. "What now sir?" Tiberian asked when they had got some way from the office.
" Now then if there already has been an autopsy I would like to see the report maybe I can find something, If there had not been a autopsy jet maybe You could arrange me being there. I Would be happy to assist in any way," Ardawen said.
“I'll ask station personnel, but I doubt they'll let you actually do anything. They seem to be overly paranoid of someone from our ship messing with the evidence. But they can't have any objection to you just observing. Sounds like a good idea, I'll arrange it and you can just head over to it whenever you're ready.”
Nika nodded, but another question wasn't forthcoming. “If anyone still has questions, I'll be back on the bridge within fifteen minutes.” Nika stood, and many of the other officers also did. When she left the ready room most of the officers were still there, but she paused on the bridge to open a channel and state 'firmly' to station security why Lt. Ardawen should be allowed to observe the autopsy. Apparently she was convincing, and the security officer could see she didn't want to argue, so it didn't take long. Before she left for Tiffani's quarters Nika let Ardawen know that he was clear to go to the station.
She paused outside of Tiffani's quarters for just long enough for the security officers to recognize her, then rang the bell. Tiffani had wanted her to stop by, but Nika still had no intention of just barging in.
“Come in,” Tiffani's voice said from the other side of the door, and the door slid open.
Nika walked in and glanced at Tiffani. “Hey,” she said, trying to smile slightly. “Wigram, Wong, and Ardawen are on the station right now finding the evidence that will prove you didn't do this,” she told Tiffani.
After the conference the new Chief Science Officer talked with the Chief Marine Officer Lt Tiberian.
They were walking to the Transporter room when Tiberian asked.
Tiberian: What do you think on all this, sir?
Wigram: I believe the affair to be unusual in the extreme. I sometimes wonder whether certain vessels always get the interesting though painful cases.
After arriving in the transporter room the two Junior Officers transported over to the station.
The evidence gathering trip was on its way. After a meeting with a brusque official The Marine led the two out of the room.
Tiberian: What now sir?
Wigram: Well that is a good question, but first off- stop calling me sir. Actually that does beg the question what should you call me, I am used to Chief as I was CEO. Just call me Chief until we can think of something else..... Might I suggest we check out the scene.
They trooped off together, They just hoped there was soemthing they could use.
Ardawen nodded, and waited until the meeting was over.to the
After the meeting Ardawen left the room as soon as he could, he had to get some things in case it was clear to go to the station.
Walking to the corridors Ardawen mind was completely at the murder, of course as a crew member he was sure that his first officer was not the murderer but as a person, wel.... something did not feel right, he had the feeling Cmdr Rylka had something to do with it or that he was the victim of something more greater then that murder something more sinister. It was of course a feeling, but Ardawen knew that his feeling would help him look objective at this case and that was something positive. After all first officer or not, when Cmdr Rylka WAS the murderer well that was something Ardawen did not want to think about.
He was over thinking things so much that he almost mist sickbay. When Ardawen walked in he first told his staff that he would be on a away mission, then he began to get some things together.
When Ardawen was nearly done, Nikka informed him that it was okay form him to go, he looked at his stuff he had almost everything just one thing was missing. He walked to an old trunk and rumbled in it, then his eyes lid, he had found it, in his hand was a small phaser pistol. Ardawen walked back to his things and put the phaser pistol between his stuff, “you never know” he whispered to him self, before closing his bag.
With his bag on his shoulder, Ardawen walked to the transporter room, where he learned that the rest had left a few minutes ago.
At the station, Ardawen met tiberian and wigram talking outside the security office. <tag tiberian and/or wigram>
Just call me Chief until we can think of something else..... Might I suggest we check out the scene." "As you say, Chief" Tiberian smiled, this he'd have to get used to. As they walked away from the security office, Tiberian spied a strangely familiar officer walking towards him. Despite only being on the Victory for a short time, he had familiarised himself with most of the senior staff and their appearances, and despite him knowing that he had not met this officer, he still looked strangely familiar. Then it hit him. "Ardawen?" Tiberian called at the officer as he approached them.
<TAG Lieutenant Ardawen>
"I thought you were tactical when you were on the Hepta, what are you doing as a CMO?"
<TAG Lieutenant Ardawen>
Tiberian and *The Chief* left Ardawen to go about his duties as they proceeded to the murder scene, the Lumerian ambassador's quarters on the upper habitat level. As they approached, a guard barred their path in front of the quarters. "Do you have clearance to be in here?" the guard asked, flexing his muscles and allowing a cocky smile to spread over his face. "Guardsman" Tiberian said, levelling up to him despite being nearly a head shorter "My fists, and our phasers are all the clearance we need" The guardsman's smile disappeared, as did his bravado as he slunk out of the way. They entered, and Tiberian sealed the door behind them. The room was in tatters, with furniture and consoles smashed, clothing and bedding strewn about, and a distinctive dark blood spatter on the floor and walls. As they went about with their tricorders, Tiberian finally decided to open the box and inspect the murder weapon. It appeared to be a 20th century 9mm pistol, which would explain why no alarms sensitised to particle weapons were triggered, and why there was such a great blood spatter. His scans revealed nothing important, so Tiberian suggested: "Chief, if it's Ok with you I'm going to return to the Victory and give the Captain what we've got so far. It might help in preparing the Commander's defence. You're the science officer anyway, so you probably have got a better idea of what it is you're doing. I'll keep you updated" A few minutes later, Tiberian returned to the Victory, evidence container in hand. "Computer what is the Captains location" "The Captain is in First Officer Rylka's quarters" Hardly the most appropriate place, Tiberian thought, but time was of the essence. Moments later he approached the Commander's quarters and pressed the door chime.
“Captain, as you and i Both know i'm not guilty in this case, i hoped that you would allow me to leave my quarters”
“I'm not sure that's the best thing to do at the moment,” Nika said, hating having to take the stern captain role right now, but she was fairly certain the best thing would be to go along with all the station regulations and avoid casting any doubt upon the judicial proceedings.
“Yes i know...All im asking is to be allowed to leave my quarters for short periods. you can send the guards with me if you like. I just don't think i can stand staying in these quarters another moment.”
“I'm sorry, but while I have the authority to let you out it would have significant negative repercussions if I just decided to do so. The very act of you being able to roam the ship may jeopardize your trial. The best I can do is appeal to station authorities for you, but I don't think that has a very high likelihood of working. I will try, though.”
“Very well Captain, I understand,” Tiffani said.
Nika frowned, she really didn't like the fact that Tiffani had to be confined to quarters, but there really wasn't much she could realistically do about it. As Tiffani was turning to leave, the bell to her quarters rang again. Nika glanced at Tiffani, who ordered the doors to open, and Lieutenant Wong entered.
“What have you found, Lieutenant?” Nika asked, glancing at Tiffani, not sure that this was the best place to be having this conversation, but Wong seemed to have something important to say.
"Ardawen?" Tiberian called at the officer as he approached them.
Ardawen looked at the face he knew and smiled "Hi tiberian good to see you"
"I thought you were tactical when you were on the Hepta, what are you doing as a CMO?"
"Well I got more abilities then tactical, tactical might be more fun but I'm also a ferly good doctor if I may so so my self. Well it was nice to meet you again we well speak each other later I be on my way I shall trie and find something at the victims autopsy"
Ardawen walked on looking for the place where the autopsy would take place. The station was rater big and the people there not very helpful he could see that he was not welcome here.
Finally where he found the room where the autopsy would take place, he walked trough the doors where 4 doctors where just getting ready to begin.
"Hi I'm starfleet medicial officer lt. ar.........." He wanned to say but on of the doctors did not let him finish his words.
"We know who you are and why you here, look just sit there shut up and do nothing don't even breath"
Ardawen felt anger crawling up en beating in his neck
"I know you don't trust us, I don't trust you guy's but we must work to gather to find out how............."
Again the doctor did not let him speak "then sit down over there and do as we told you, we just do our work and we can all walk out of here without any trouble"
Ardawen wanned to jell at the doctor, he wanned to grap him an trow him against the wall, he wanned to hit him so that his mouth would have no teath anymore. But ardawen just turned around en did as he was told.
It did not take long before the body was brought in, it was a mess even when there was no blood comming out of the body but there where 3 round holls in the victems stomag. Ardawen was amazed he had only seen this in studie books on earth, gun shots!!
His mind began to work, this could could mean that someone on earth was involved, he already this did not rule out the cmdr this autopsy would turn out to nothing knew but he was so intrested that he would stay and watch.
The doctors where working hard and efficient and soon they find the bullets where quickly found.
They autoposy went on and on it appeared that Ardawen was not the only one who was intrested and the doctors spoke so fast and silent that he could not hear a thing. But Ardawen could see that they did nothing strange or wrong. The cause of death was clear. The where the bullets hit was totaly ripped the shooter knew exactly where to hit the victem.
Finaly the doctor walked to Ardawen "you´ll get our report as within 4 hours lt. but as you might have seen the cause of death is clear"
Ardawen nodded "thank you for letting me watch"
The doctor raised a eyebrow "No problem lt., I hope you forgive me for being so hard when we first met I hope you'll forgive me."
Ardawen smiled " It's is a complex situation and I know how it feels no hard here"
and with a friendly nod Ardawen walked out of the room where the autopsy was and back to a place where he could be beamed back to the ship.
When he found a good place he tapped his combadge =^=Ardawen to transport room, one to beam up.=^=
And so they did
In the transportroom he thanked the caddet that transported him, and walked to his quaters he was tired and wanned to rest, but he knew he had his duty so, he tapped his combadge again. =^= Ardawen to the captain, the official report of the autopsy shall be here within the nex 4 hours, but if you wish I could fill you in already what are you orders=^=
“What have you found, Lieutenant?” the Captain asked as Tiberian entered, not even giving him time to catch his breath. "The sensor recordings of the crime, and the murder weapon" Tiberian said, placing the box on a nearby table. All three seemed to stare relentlessly at it, until Tiberian broke the silence. "I haven't seen the recording myself yet, but I did take a quick look at the murder weapon" He opened the box and withdrew the pistol "An old earth style firearm. The report is in here, so the weapon is pretty much ours to do with as we will" He removed the magazine, and began snapping the bullets out. He placed five bullets on the table. "This means that three rounds have already been fired, which would explain the large blood spatter at the crime scene. Lieutenant Wigram is there now taking additional scans, but I'm not sure what else there is to turn up" He suddenly realised how morbid he sounded, despite being in the same room as the accused. "But I'm sure that this will all blow over". He pickedup the box and moved over to hand it to the Captaiin. "I thought it best to come back and analyse all this to help prepare for the Commander's acquittal tommorrow ma'am. What should I do about the sensor recordings?"
OOC: I wasn't sure what was needed in the sensor logs, so I'll let the two lovely ladies of the ship catfight over it. On a more boring note, for the sake of realism the murder weapon is a Sig Sauer P225, with an eight round magazine.
Nika examined the murder weapon that Tiberian had produced, and found herself wondering why someone would use such a weapon. It seemed unusual, and unnecessary. But Nika didn't really want to dwell terribly on that, because then she would have to think about why anyone would want to murder anyone in the first place. But this kind of weapon was distinctive, which might be useful.
"I thought it best to come back and analyse all this to help prepare for the Commander's acquittal tommorrow ma'am. What should I do about the sensor recordings?"
Nika frowned slightly. “Look through them, or have a science officer or engineer do it?” she suggested. “My guess would be that they'll show a clear recording of Commander Rylka committing the murder.” Nika resisted the urge to glance at Commander Rylka for her FO's reaction of her words. She could not afford to doubt even the slightest Commander Rylka's story. Not right now. “In which case it's a matter of proving that they were faked or edited somehow.”
Nika refused to let herself sigh, but it was very tempting. There were just so very many things piling up that needed to be taken care of in order to deal with this...situation, and Nika wasn't sure that she would be able to do them all. And if she couldn't, the consequences would be unbearable, so she had to try her best. Which was why she wasn't going to let herself sigh, or make any external self-admission that this was all overwhelming.
Instead of sighing, she nodded and tapped her commbadge. -/\-I'd love to hear what you found, but I'm a little busy at the moment. Do you think you could meet me in my ready room in eighteen minutes?-/\- she asked.
<Tag Ardawen>
Nika nodded, dismissing Wong, unless he had anything further to discuss. She turned to leave, but turned to Commander Rylka first. “We will prove your innocence by tommorow,” Nika promised.
<Tag Tiffani>
Nika arrived on the bridge to see Lt. Arika standing alert at his station. “Lt Arika,” she said. “Would you mind investigating what the restrictions of replicating a a Sig Sauer P225? As well as if anyone has replicated one on the Victory or the station within the past week.”
<Tag Arika>
Nika looked around the rest of the bridge, and saw Lt. Roberts ready at his station. “Can you look into who would have a motive to kill Aclia Kade? You may have to look into the victim's past history.”
<Tag Roberts>
When Nika was done with that, she walked into her ready room, a little early, but she hoped she wouldn't have to wait long until Ardawen showed.
John was stood manning his console, when the captain requested something “Can you look into who would have a motive to kill Aclia Kade? You may have to look into the victim's past history.” the captain asked, John repllied by sayin "yes of course I can ma'am"
with this he left the bridge for his quaters to go and study the evidance.
(I will post again at a later date when i know were he was murderd and what the weapon was)
Nika frowned, she really didn't like the fact that Tiffani had to be confined to quarters, but there really wasn't much she could realistically do about it. As Tiffani was turning to leave, the bell to her quarters rang again. Nika glanced at Tiffani, who ordered the doors to open, and Lieutenant Wong entered.
“What have you found, Lieutenant?” Nika asked, glancing at Tiffani, not sure that this was the best place to be having this conversation, but Wong seemed to have something important to say.
Tiffani’s face turned to a look of concern when Lieutenant Wong entered, she wanted to ask so many questions but instead she just listened. She just hoped that they could prove her innocence.
She stared at the weapon as it was displayed, she had never seen one before, sure she had heard about them from her father, but she had never touched one, let alone know how to operate a weapon of that kind.
*Captain, it has to be someone who has something against my family* she frowned slightly *The only time I’ve ever seen a weapon like that is when my father used to collect them. He always forbid me to touch them, said that they was of great power and could kill instantly*
<Tag Captain>
Just as the captain was about to continue on she was paged once more. Tiffani sighed it felt as though she wasn’t really there as she was watching her life flash about her. She sinked down onto the couch as the commotion carried on she looked to one of the pictures of her, Felix and Amilea, she sighed as she stared at it, and was caught off guard when the captain spoke to her again.
Nika nodded, dismissing Wong, unless he had anything further to discuss. She turned to leave, but turned to Commander Rylka first. “We will prove your innocence by tommorow,” Nika promised.
*I hope so Captain, I don’t know how much longer I can stay couped up.* she nodded to the captain as she left and then turned her attention back to the photo. she clinged it in her hands, and curled up asleep on the sofa. She wanted to call on him, but knew that it would be pointless, there was nothing he could do and it would only harm Amilea in the end, she found herself dozing off and drifting into dreamland, a time when she was her most happiest.
At the Captain's nod, Tiberian left the room. He went immediately to the bridge, and commandeered a science station to analyse the sensor logs. He opened the box and removed the three isolinear chips. One was a visual recording of the crime, the second was a scan readout from the time of the murder, and the third was a report of commbadge and bio signature movements at the suspected time of the killing. Tiberian placed each of these isolinear chips into a nearby terminal, and saved copies of all the records into an isolated area of the main computer. He then opened the vsual recording and began viewing it. The recording had little to it, as it simpy ran for a few minutes before the murder with the ambassador sitting and drinking, and then the Commander bursting in and sealing the door behind her. The Commander then said something indistinct, so indistinct that even the most sensitive of scans could not give a certain answer. She then fired three shots, one at about 20 paces, and two more at point blank range. The Commander subsequently tore the room apart, apparently looking for something, and failing to find it departed. The sensor recordings confirmed both gunfire and the Commander's commbadge and bio sign at the crime scene. "Computer" Tiberian said "Scan for any discrepencies in ambient noise, lighting, shadows or the time index key built into all of these sennsor logs" "Processing. No discrepencies identified" Now Tiberian was starting to get uneasy. "Expand search parameters to show any signs of editing, tampering or inconsistent recording methods compared with all known Federation methods" "Processing. No evidence of tampering detected" Tiberian leaned heavily on the console, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. "Right. Computer run search algorithm Delta... 12. Identify any underlying code or sub-sequenced binary. Identify anything inconsistent with all recording or data tracking methods, including that of all known races" "Processing. Sub code present. The code is encrypted and interworked into the main binary layer, data indicate......" The response was cut off, and Tiberian's panel went blank. "Computer, identify what just happened?" "Lockdown protocols were triggered" "Override, authorisation Wong 64 Theta Proxima" "Unable to comply, level 10 clearance or higher required" Tiberian was shocked. Whatever was encoded on the underneath of those chips needed a Captain's security clearance to override. Tiberian tapped his commbadge: "Wong to Lieutenant Wigram. Chief, I could use you back on the Victory, something odd is happening with these sensor logs. Wong out" He then turned to a nearby crewman. "My compliments to the Captain, and would she mind joining me out here for a moment" The crewman scuttled off.
After talking with Ardawen, Nika was informed that Tiberian wanted to speak with her. Nika nodded, and quickly found Tiberian at a science station. He informed her that he had run up against a level 10 required security clearance. Nika agreed that that sounded suspicious. However, since there was a possibility that it was for a legitimate reason, she wouldn't open it while he was watching.
Wong returned to his station while Nika looked into what he had been researching. She had, once upon a time, been a science officer, and so had sufficient science background to determine that while the data looked a little off, there wasn't anything in it that deserved a label of Level 10 required clearance. It just didn't make sense. She talked with Tiberian a little bit, and he told her what he had found so far. Nika would have liked to be able to analyze the data further herself, but she didn't quite have time for that. She had other things to do.
----------------------------
Two and a half hours later, Nika concluded that she wasn't getting much further. And that she would be practically useless tomorrow if she tried to continue working without getting any sleep. And while she knew she would be able to make it through the preliminary hearing, obviously something was going to happen after that, and Nika wanted to have enough energy to cope with whatever that was.
She looked around the bridge and still saw members of the day shift working. She raised her voice: “I'd like to encourage all non-night shift officers still working to think about resting at some point tonight.” That was all she said, because she wasn't going to force anyone to do anything they really didn't want to do. Although Nika did know that everyone would need sleep at some point.
Back in her quarters, Nika didn't exactly find it easy to fall asleep. She kept thinking of something else she needed to do, or that she'd forgotten to do, only to realize that she had already done it or that there wasn't any reason she would have to do it. She managed to sleep four hours in bits and pieces, before she gave up, and took a shower. She dressed in her uniform and returned to the bridge.
At 08:42, Nika stood outside of Commander Rylka's quarters. “Are you ready to be acquitted?” Nika asked, as the doors slid open. Nika had decided that the best thing to do was show that she stood by her first officer, and so the Victory senior staff planned to all beam aboard to that station and show up at the courtroom together.
Nika and Tiffani didn't talk to each other much on the way to the Victory transporter room, it didn't seem like they had terribly much to say. Both of them were very aware of the security officers trailing Tiffani. The rest of the senior staff were waiting, and Nika trusted that they had found what they could to help clear Commander Rylka's name, along with the appointed legal representative, Taleni. Nika had worked out with Taleni that he would leave to the actual officers the presentation of evidence, but he would introduce.
“I'd like to encourage all non-night shift officers still working to think about resting at some point tonight.” The Captain announced to the bridge crew. Since he had left the Captain to analyse what appeared to be strictly confidential findings, Tiberian had moved to sit in the advisors seat forward of the tactical station. He had determined that whilst finding whoever was truly guilty would be difficult, proving the Commander's innocence would be marginally easier. He had been researching the murder weapon's history, when he struck upon something interesting. The firing of the weapon should have left a trace of powder residue on the hand of whoever had fired the weapon. "Computer" he asked "Do you have the sensor recordings of Commander Rylka's movements since she was brought back on board?" "Affirmative" Came the response. "Analyse the recordings. has the Commander at any point changed her clothes or showered?" "Negative" Tiberian smiled. A short while later, he completed the same analysis on the copies of the records provided by the station. The records were conclusive, there was no way that the Commander could have removed the residue. He patched the sensors into the Commander's quarters were she was sleeping. "Computer, analyse the Commander's quarters for any trace of gunpowder residue" "No trace detected" the computer replied. "Save these findings, along with copies of all accessed security files and data recordings to isolinear chip 21 gamma. Time code and encrypt all data" He removed the chip from his console, and made to leave. As he entered the turbolift, he hoped that the schedule didn't have him down as the grey watch officer. He entered his quarters and collapsed on his bed, suddenly realising he couldn't remember the last time he had slept.
When he woke in the morning, Tiberian dressed in his marine dress uniform. He hoped that a trial warranted a sense of formality as he hung his ceremonial sword from his belt, and straightened his cap and rank insignia. Substituting breakfast with 3 cups of Landras blend coffee, Tiberian picked up his evidence and made his way to the transporter room. It was only 07:30, and Tiberian realised that he had only slept for 5-6 hours. He settled down and rested his head on a bulkhead as other senior officers arrived. More than an hour later the Captain and XO arrived, causing Tiberian to leap to his feet and snap to attention. "Captain and XO on deck, ten shun!" He saluted
