An uninhabited planetary survey. Typical.
Looking at the chronometer, it was almost 0600, she could call the senior staff together now, but there was no point in dragging them to a mission briefing at this hour for... this.
"Computer, send a message to all senior staff, briefing at 0900," KezTrek ordered the terminal.
"Confirmed," the computer replied with a chirp.
She had a few hours, she may as well go get a shower and get changed, she was still dressed in civilian clothing, maybe she could play with Paul for a little while, some days it felt like she barely got to be a mother. It was the one big regret in this job, if unfortunately not the only one.

J'Leera awoke to the sound of her computer beeping. It was still early, so when she saw that the mission briefing wasn't until 0900, she went back to bed and slept another two hours. By that point she was fully rested and still had plently of time to shower and eat a decent breakfast.
T'Brel's party was nice and she was glad that she went. Not only was she able to meet some new people, but the company did her good. She felt a lot better about Luke's disapearence and she was beginning to accept it.
So, before long she was ready to go and was on her way up to the bridge. The ship was still quiet at that hour, but a few people were wandering about.
"Do you have any idea what the new mission is?" her assistant Ensign Holman asked.
"No idea, but since the Captain decided to wait a few hours, I doubt it's important," she answered and continued on her way. Holman turned back to his duties, but obviously looked disapointed.
When she arrived at the bridge, she found that she had been the first to arrive, so she took a seat and waited patiently.

T'Brel would never host a party in his quarters again, and he certainly would never serve alcohol again. T'Brel would have to synthesis something to combat his current state of drunkenness. As he looked upon his room he saw the mess of it all. He would have to spend a couple hours cleaning this up, but in all he was happy he had done this. It seemed to have made some people happier.
"Well where should I start?" T'Brel asked himself as he dove into the problem.
Hours later
It was 0634 and the job was finally complete. T'Brel did not smell good, but that could easily be remedied by a good shower. As T'Brel picked up his computer, which had somehow fallen to the ground, he noticed that there was a message waiting for him.
A briefing was set for 0900, which seemed odd to T'Brel. Most briefings were held first thing in the morning, but this time it seemed that Admiral KezTrek chose otherwise.
"Must be a boring mission," T'Brel mused as he went into the shower and got cleaned up.
Thirty minutes later
T'Brel walked onto the bridge and saw that very few people were there, which was the way he liked it. The Tigershark's bridge somehow felt empty. Every time T'Brel had entered the bridge, one person was there.
"I can't believe I'm going to miss him," T'Brel said as he noticed a PADD on his console. When he looked at it, he saw that it was from Luke.

As J'Leera sat waiting, she picked up a data PADD on the table and began drawing on it. When she was a kid she used to do this during class when she got bored and the habit stuck. She drew a small house on the PADD with some mountains in the distance. Then she drew several children out front playing. She then labeled the children: Jatira, Johl, Jasmn and finally she added her own name.
She set the picture down and admired it. It had been a long time since she had seen her home and her family. She knew that from their letters they missed her terribly and she hoped that she'd be able to get leave soon and go visit them. Since things were looking up very well for her at the moment since the last mission, she wondered if it might be possible after all.
Of course she had friends here. T'Brel's party was a lot of fun, especially after some of the crew got drunk and tried to put on a musical performance with T'Brel as the main singer. She tried to get him to sit down knowing he'd end up embarressing himself, but he wouldn't listen.
Oh, well...they probably won't remember anyway... She didn't drink of course, she never did, so she ended up escorting several officers home that night.
She glanced at the time and saw that it was 5 minutes 'til 0900.

T'Brel became bored very quickly which was the main reason he loved flying. It was always exciting feeling the ship and engines under his fingertips. It was an obsession that he could never give up.
He noticed that the meeting would be starting shortly and so after making sure that everything was in order, which it was, T'Brel made his way towards the observation lounge where the meeting would be taking place.
When he walked in he saw that J'Leera was already there waiting for the mission to start.
"How long have you been waiting here?" T'Brel asked as he sat down opposite to J'Leera.
<Tag J'Leera>
"J'Leera, I'm going to ask you something and you have to promise to tell me the truth," T'Brel said looking her straight in the eye.
"Okay, I promise," J'Leera said a bit uncomfortably.
"Did I do anything to embarrass myself yesterday?" T'Brel asked knowing that he had been drunk last night.

J'Leera looked up to see T'Brel coming through the door. He looked quite exhausted from the party and she wondered how much sleep he had. She doubted that it was very much, if any at all.
"How long have you been waiting here?" he asked sitting down.
"Not too long," she said picking up the PADD. "I found some things to occupy myself for a while."
"J'Leera, I'm going to ask you something and you have to promise to tell me the truth," he said looking at her straight in the eye.
"Okay, I promise," she answered, resisting the urge to fidget.
"Did I do anything to embarrass myself yesterday?"
"Well, um..."
He sighed. "Okay, what did I do?"
"You sang a song...um, I don't know what the song was. It was supposed to be an Earth song," she said carefully. "You said a name, but I didn't recognize it."
"What was it?" he asked becoming worried.
"The name was Jackson, yes Michael Jackson. I'm assuming you know who I'm talking about?" she asked.

James watched his reflection in the mirror, very conscious of Toni giggling on the background. Carefully, he brushed a stray lock of hair backwards and examined his perfectly groomed hair once more. He'd already taken a shave, but now he noticed his daughter pointing.
"Still soap there," she giggled, picking up the towel and pulling her father down to her level, so she could wipe his face.
"Why thank you," he chuckled, "are you ready for school?" Before going on duty, he would take his daughter to school, then do a quick check of the bridge. He had caught the message call for a briefing at 0900 and he intended to get there early.
When Toni nodded, the two of them headed out the door, James having to slightly duck as the door wasn't quite suited for his hight. He'd get engineering to please fix that for him at some point, when he'd gotten to know the crew. With a kiss and a goodbye hug, he dropped Toni off at the school, then headed for the bridge.
Checking his chronometer, he noticed he still had ample time to get there. But he didn't waste any time, wasted time could never be re-used and it was a waste to waste any. Tugging at his tunic, to smoothen the fabric, he confidently stepped onto the bridge, his tall frame instantly noticed by several crewmembers.
Quietly, he stood before the turbolift doors, obeserving the bridge crew, examining them as if he were examining prize stock. "Attention!" he called out, seeing that everyone immediately stood at attention. "I am commander James Flanigan, your new first officer," he announced, then permitted a small smile, "at ease. Please continue what you were doing. Senior staff, there's a briefing at 0900, don't be late!"
He stepped down to the command level and settled down in the seat next to the captain's chair. At least this was fitted to be comfortable to tall people, he noticed. From the corner of his eyes, he noticed two people quietly talking. One of them had pointed ears, and spots running down the side of his face. A Trill Vulcan? James thought, clearly amused but never surprised, I've never seen that before.

Kahlena woke up early to surroundings she didn't recognize, and then she remembered where she was. She got up and got ready for her first day in her new home. She wasn't sure how this was going to work, but she hoped it would work out fine here. She was a bit nervous, and she hoped to calm this down. She remebered the last time she was nervous, and it hadn't been pretty.
Before she left her quarters she sat down and meditated, hoping to calm her nerves. She got up finding it helped a little, and left to find her new commanding officer.
The ride on the turbolift was quite, and she was glad no one else was there with her at that time. She noticed her abilities were starting to show, so she took slow deep breaths, and unfortunately it didn't work. She didn't have time to do anything else as the lift stopped and the doors opened. She walked out onto the bridge, and noticed people were eyeing her, which made her nerves go haywire. Suddenly a padd shot up into the air and started to spin like crazy. She felt really bad for whomever the padd belonged to. She gulped and walked straight to the center of the bridge.
"Lt. Kahlena reporting for duty." She said standing at attention. She felt her nerves still creating havock on her, and wished she could disappear. Suddenly several people's rank were racing around the bridge as if in a race. She felt really embarrassed, and hoped no one figured out it was her creating all this trouble. She was glad nothing bigger had come up floating though, then all of a sudden the commanding officer himself was floating in the air, and she wanted to run and hide. Several more of the bridge crew were floating, and she almost felt like running off the bridge, but she stood her ground.

"You sang a song...um, I don't know what the song was. It was supposed to be an Earth song," she said carefully. "You said a name, but I didn't recognize it."
"What was it?" T'Brel asked knowing that he could very likely be sweating up a storm already.
"The name was Jackson, yes Michael Jackson. I'm assuming you know who I'm talking about?" she asked.
T'Brel's hand slipped under him when he heard the name come out of J'Leera's mouth. His face hit the desk hard, but T'Brel didn't care about the pain. He didn't want J'Leera to see his face. He had sung a Jackson song. The only thing that could of been worse, was if he had sung Thriller .
"Um J'Leera was everyone else drunk, please tell me they were drunk," T'Brel said looking up at her once again.
T'Brel still could not believe that he had allowed himself to indulge himself in the alcohol, he knew that it affected him in the worse ways.
J'Leera was about to respond to T'Brel's question, but both of them stopped when the bridge was called to attention. T'Brel quickly turned around and saw that it was a stranger who had called them to attention.
"I am commander James Flanigan, your new first officer," he announced, then permitted a small smile, "at ease. Please continue what you were doing. Senior staff, there's a briefing at 0900, don't be late!"
T'Brel didn't know what to think, he thought almost for certain that J'Leera would get the XO job, but it should of hit him that she was not wearing a red vest which indicated command.
"What do you think of him?" T'Brel asked J'Leera hoping to know what she thought of there new first officer.
J'Leera once again was not able to respond as a new member of the crew walked in. T'Brel didn't notice the new member, but her appearance was attention grabbing. Pretty soon funny things began to happen on the bridge and soon enough people where floating on the bridge, well everyone but T'Brel.
~You are doing this aren't you?~ T'Brel asked the Lt.
~It is not my intention~ was her response.
~Lt. calm down, concentrate on my voice, let me help you put everyone in order~ T'Brel said as he connected with Kahlena once more.

James tried his best to remain dignified when his feet lost contact with the deck. "Check gravity!" he bellowed, as he and several other people started to float.
Only seconds earlier he'd been shouldered aside by a large and winged creature. When he noticed the Vulcan Trill gaze intently at the creature, it didn't take him long to realize that it was the cause of the 'loss of gravity'.
"Kindly put us down," he addressed the creature, looking as stern as possible. Yet when he saw the creature's distressed features, his expression softened. "It's all right," he continued, hoping a soothing tone might help the creature. It was evident it was nervous, the way it was fanning it's wings, sending several people flying in the process.
James ducked under a wing as well as he was able to, being afloat. "Control yourself," he now ordered it, "control yourself, or leave the bridge.

Thirteen was still examining security reports when his computer beeped. The message that the briefing is to be at 0900 popped up. Thirteen decided to get to the bridge half an hour before the briefing started, yet no one appeared to be there anymore, so he went to the briefing room. Arriving there he found J'Leera and T'Brel already seated, aparently talking about the night before.
"Good morning," Thirteen greeted his fellow officers who returned their greetings. "I have enjoyed the get together last night," Thirteen said to T'Brel, "however it might not be the worst idea to take some singing lessons. J'Leera surpressed a smile with her hand, making it sound as an uneasy cough.
A voice sounded from the bridge, and he announced himself as their new first officer. Thirteen wondered what kind of man he was, yet thought that calling for attention was not the way to introdcue yourself.
A few calls of distress came from the bridge only a minute later, and Thirteen rose from his chair to check out the situation. It was quite a bizarre sight; their new first officer half afloat, and padds spinning in the air. He caught one of his pips just in time as it had come lose from his collar. Thirteen right away noticed a new officer in the middle of the bridge who seemed to be terrified. As she was about the only non-floating officer on the bridge, Thirteen figured that she might be the cause of the menace.
He walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder. Instead of calming her down as Thirteen'd intended to, he scared her causing a padd to shoot up from the ground and crash straight into Thirteens face.

She still felt overwhelmed, and wanted the help from the guy talking to her with his mind.
~Yes, help would be wonderful. Usually I meditate to calm down, but that doesn't even help me. I did that before I left this morning, and I still feel my nerves wreaking havock on me. I don't mean to cause trouble.~ She thought, and then the commander yelled for gravity to be checked, to which she was glad she couldn't blush like humans did. She noticed he looked over at one of the women on the bridge, and she looked Kahlena's way. She knew it was coming, and she knew being yelled at wouldn't help her any.
She started to move her wings a bit, and realized she was flying before long. She hated it when she got this nervous. The commander started to talk to her in a softer tone, and that helped a bit.
"I am so sorry, sir, I don't mean to be trouble. I will leave immediately, so you can all get back to what you are doing. Hopefully this won't happen again." She said getting control of her wings and setting down again. She felt a little better that he hadn't yelled at her, and she walked to the turbolift. Once inside she felt her nerves still going, but not as bad. She ordered the turbolift to a deck, and remembered she had yet to see the inside of her new office. She considered herself on duty now that she had reported in, and no one had said any differently. She told the computer which deck she wanted instead, and headed for her new office to see what she could do to get some work done.
Once inside she noticed the desk had a few padds on it, but not too many. She sat down to read what was on them, and she noticed none of them made any sense.
~Geez, what happened to the last counsellor? Why would he or she write something like that?~ She thought, and erased the padds. She logged into the computer on her desk and brought up the crews records. She noticed they didn't make much sense either with some of the new notes. She decided to have a few evaluations and make some new notes to the records. She wondered who to call first. She didn't want to send anyone floating on the first evaluation she would do, so she decided not to make it command just yet. She remembered that guy who held the part last night, and decided maybe he should be the first one.
~With singing like his, I will have to remember to cover my ears if he tries it.~ She thought remembering the party. She looked through the files wondering what his name was. She remembered introducing herself, but he hadn't done so at all last night. She finally found it.
=^=Lt. Kahlena to Commander Peers, please report to my office=^= She said quickly before signing out. She picked up one of the empty padds, and started to make a list of questions she might ask him.

KezTrek was glad, that the senior staff were already in the briefing room when she arrived.
"Where is Commander Kahlena?" she asked.
"The Commander had a slight case of nerves on the bridge, caused a few problems, I believe she went to her office," Flanigan replied.
"Nerves? Excellent, my new Counsellor has nerves. Just what I need," KezTrek muttered the last part under her breath.
The sound of T'Brel's com chirping interrupted further speech. =^=Lt. Kahlena to Commander Peers, please report to my office=^=
"Commander Kahlena, Mr. Peers is currently involved in a briefing, perhaps, you could return to the bridge and attend yourself," KezTrek answered before T'Brel had the chance.
"Ah... I'm sorry Admiral, I..." Kahlena stuttered.
"It isn't necessary for you to be here at the moment Counsellor, however, I will be down to visit with you after this briefing is complete, expect me shortly," KezTrek said, cutting off the channel.
"Now, I'll make this short and sweet since it is a waste of everyone's time. First, although I'm sure you've already managed to make the rounds, we have a new First officer. Commander Aaron James Flanigan. I'm sure you will all make him feel welcome. Secondly, I'd like to welcome our new CEO, Lt. Jebadia Shelby. And of course, you've all heard of, if not met our new CNS, Commander Kahlena," KezTrek paused a moment, giving everyone the time to make eye contact with their new officers.
"We've been assigned to a planetary survey, I can't imagine why," KezTrek said, a complete lack of the normal dry humour underlying her words.
"Helm already has the co-ordinates. It's uninhabited, primitive and out of the way of anywhere we might possibly get into trouble. But, all that aside, we're Starfleet officers and we will perform this mission to the best of our abilities. Lt. Shelby, I want all our scientific systems running at 110%, Cmdrs Peers and Laika can assist you, they're more familiar with the Tigershark's systems." Several nods came her way, before KezTrek dismissed them.
"That was unnecessary," Flanigan commented after the others had left.
"They broke the rules, now they are getting punished. End of discussion," KezTrek told him.
"I've read your record Admiral, you've broken more than a fair share of rules yourself. But actually I was referring to Cmdr Kahlena," Flanigan said.
"I'm sure you're just full of well meaning, AJ..."
"James," Flanigan replied on automatic.
"...AJ, but if my counsellor can't hold herself together, how can she be expected to help the crew hold it together," KezTrek said, "now, I believe I called an ending to the briefing, I have a counsellor to go visit."

Kahlena heard the message, and didn't feel good about it. She realized what time it was, and that she missed the briefing completely. She knew she was in for it, but a visit from the Admiral herself, now that was going to be interesting. She decided to try and meditate until the admiral arrived, and sat down to do so.
Right in the middle of her third time of meditation, the door chimed. She could still feel the nerves working on her. She hated this, and wondered why she always had a hard time with the higher ranks. "Enter," she said, and found the admiral came in. She stood and could feel her ablities trying to break free from her again.
"Admiral, welcome," was all she could manage to say at that time. She felt it then, and saw the ranks go racing around the room. She sat back down, and closed her eyes trying to get ahold of this thing. She tried a couple of deep breaths, and then felt a hand on her shoulder. She opened her eyes to see the admiral standing right next to her.
"Relax, Lt., I am not going to hurt you or anything. I just want to talk," she said, and Kahlena nodded, still deep breathing trying to calm herself. It wasn't working, so she stopped.
"I am sorry, I don't know why this always happens," she said, and couldn't bring herself to look the other woman in the eye. Suddenly the admiral's feet left the ground, and Kahlena noticed. She groaned, and knew she would never hear the end of this.

KezTrek felt a brief moment of disorientation as she was lifted from the ground, but it wasn't a particularly unpleasant sensation. Actually this wasn't unlike zero-g, still some sense of order needed to be restored.
Opening her mind, she felt out Kahlena mentally, as calmly and unthreateningly as possible, she used her own control, to bring Kahlena into a more balanced mental state. It wasn't exactly orthodox, but then she was fairly sure, nervous counsellors who made their fellow crew mates fly was not exactly orthodox.
Managing a successful 'landing' as she pushed Kahlena towards retaking control of her own mind, KezTrek felt reasonably pleased when she was able to pull back completely and remain standing on firm footing.
"Thank you," Kahlena said, her body language making clear she was embarrassed.
"I may have the mental control and discipline to return myself to solid footing when you get nervous, others of this crew, do not. You won't be giving anyone any evaluations, or making any appointments until you have yourself under control," KezTrek told her.
"I'm sorry Admiral," Kahlena said.
"I don't imagine you do it intentionally, however, you need to learn to control it better. I can't have you getting nervous in the middle of a battle situation and the crew unable to do their jobs because you have them floating in mid air. T'Brel Peers, who I believe you already know, has some experience with mental discipline. Seek his help, if it is required. I will make myself available too, should it be necessary, however, since it can't always be relied upon that one of us is present, you need to learn to control it yourself." KezTrek said.
Kahlena nodded glumly. At least, KezTrek thought it was glum, it was difficult to tell.
"The Tigershark has been assigned a planetary survey; it's unlikely we'll run into any trouble, so I'd suggest you take this time to practice your control techniques. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a few matters to take care off." KezTrek told her.

J'Leera didn't really get a chance to respond to T'Brel's question about the new FO because she suddenly started to lift up out of her chair. She quickly grabbed onto her chair and pulled herself down into it, looking around. A new officer stood by the turbolift and was looking around nervously.
Could she be the source? she wondered.
T'Brel was looking at her too, but with a focused look on his face. Suddenly everything began to settle down and people were returning to the floor. The new officer left the bridge all flustered and she realized that they needed to get to the briefing room.
Admiral Keztrek arrived shortly after and she began her meeting. It was pretty obvious that she was quite annoyed by the mission and at them especially. Even though she stuck up for them, she wasn't about to let them off that easily. Even though J'Leera wasn't surprised that her former duties were given to another officer, a lieutenant no less, she was still rather insulted by it.
Thankfully the briefing ended shortly, so she and T'Brel went up to work on the sensors. On the way up she asked him what he thought of the briefing.
"I've never seen her so agitated before," she commented. "Of course it is understandable and we do deserve this," she sighed, thinking about past events.
"What about our new first officer?" T'Brel asked. "We didn't get a chance to visit that conversation up on the bridge."
J'Leera made a face. "I don't know what it is about him, but I wouldn't trust him. Maybe it's just me and I don't know him, but I'm not so sure I like him. What do you think?"

T'Brel was clearly agitated, but Admiral KezTrek just seemed to ignore it. He didn't like the fact that his friends were being punished by the Admiral, when she her self had done much worse. T'Brel thought it a bit hypocritical of her and hopefully the Admiral would be able to pick up on these thoughts which T'Brel knew were not only coming from him.
The mood at the end of the briefing was not a pleasant one and he was very glad to be out of there. T'Brel would want to talk to Jonathan, but he had been ordered to help out J'Leera, who he felt had been insulted by Admiral Keztrek's decision.
"I've never seen her so agitated before," she commented. "Of course it is understandable and we do deserve this," she sighed, thinking about past events.
"What about our new first officer?" T'Brel asked not wanting to say what he really felt. "We didn't get a chance to visit that conversation up on the bridge."
"I don't know what it is about him, but I wouldn't trust him. Maybe it's just me and I don't know him, but I'm not so sure I like him. What do you think?"
"I don't think he is a very pleasant man, I didn't like the way he treated Kahlena on the bridge," T'Brel responded," she is knew to the ship and the First Officer should make all of her crew feel welcome."
"You know I think the Admiral is angry at us because we didn't wait for her," T'Brel said knowing what it meant," she wasn't there, we made a decision to help out Luke and it turned ugly. We will live by our decisions, but her attitude towards us unwarranted and not productive."
J'Leera stayed quiet for a couple of seconds, T'Brel would not go into her thoughts to see if she agreed with him or not. She gave T'Brel a weak smile and started to work on the sensors.
"I'm sorry if I have offended you, I know that you have served with the Admiral for a lot longer time than me," T'Brel said hoping that he didn't start a rift between them.

"Yes, admiral, I will gladly take this time to learn more self control. It isn't always that I feel this nervous, but whenever I get near you or the XO, I seem to lose it. I don't understand it. I wish I could figure it out why you two make me so nervous. Do you have any idea?" She asked quickly knowing that the admiral had some place to be.
(Kez)
"Ok, thanks, admiral, I appreciate the help you have offered, and I might seek you out later. Right now I need to do some heavy thinking and soul seeking before I start meditating again. I think I will visit Lt. Peers later, after I have taken back my abilities. I wouldn't want to send anyone else flying, although it is a wonderful thing that I enjoy." She said wishing she could grin like the rest of the crew. She didn't mind the beak, and wondered when she was younger she had wondered what it was like to be different. Now she knew, and she didn't like having that knowledge.
After the admiral left, she sat down and closed her eyes. She imagined a red ball infront of her eyes. The ball was growing as it willed itself to, and she didn't like that. This seemed way too natural. She started to shape the ball, and to shrink it back down in size like she was taught when she was just a child. She knew this would take awhile.
Hours later she emerged from her office, and went to find Lt. Peers. She hoped he wasn't busy, and asked the computer where he was.

The meeting went as Kirk had expected it to, he was happy that it was only about the mission at hand and not about the actions of the crew during their last personal mission.
Stepping onto the bridge Kirk walked past T'Brel and J'Leera and heard them speaking. Stopping, Kirk turned and stood next to T'Brel to listen in.
Kirk took this moment to speak his mind, "We should really not worry about the new First Officer, or the Admiral. If we all just do our jobs things will slowly go back to normal. Besides, Commander Flanigan must have been placed on this ship for a reason and we should respect the decisions made by Admiral Keztrek and her peers." Kirk said.
He noticed weird looks on both J'Leera's face and T'Brel's. It was a look he was expecting, because he said what had to be said for the good of the ship.
Kirk had always found that the OPS officer had always taken a hands off stance when it came to ships moral. Due to the nature of the last mission Kirk felt it was his duty as the OPS officer to make sure that not only was the ship in good running order but that the crew's moral was high.
"I will be at my station if anybody needs me." Kirk finally said breaking the silence.

J'Leera was rather surprised by Kirk's reminder of their duty, but as she thought about it, she began to agree with him. Their new first officer was their superior and had their respect and loyalty by right. He did not have to impress them or to earn anything from them. If he gave an order, then he expected it to be obeyed immediately. Perhaps they had been too laid back as a crew, she speculated. Maybe this man is what we need.
She went back to her work assisting the lieutenant. She didn't like her punishment of course, but she submitted to Keztrek's decision. She was the Captain, not her and this was happening for a very good reason. Everyone had to realize that there were consequences for everything.
Before long sensors were up and running smoothly. They had modified them for biological scans as well when they reached the planet, but also the surrounding area. Previous scouts had detected faint amounts of atmospheric radiation, so she was hoping to see what they were all about and how the planet's lifeforms had adapted itself to it.
Perhaps later tonight she could go down and meet the new counselor. She hadn't had the change to meet her yet, because of their confinement, so she hope that she'd be able to later.

Besides, Commander Flanigan must have been placed on this ship for a reason and we should respect the decisions made by Admiral Keztrek and her peers." Kirk said.
T'Brel would thought for certain that Jonathan would see it his way, but when Kirk made his feelings known it hit T'Brel that he was not acting rationally. J'Leera's impression almost changed immediately and T'Brel knew why.
They had done questionable things and they must be punished for it. Admiral Keztrek was being hard on them, but she had protected them from harsher punishments from command. As for the new Commander, T'Brel realized that it didn't matter. He wore a uniform and so did he. The uniform demanded respect and T'Brel would give it.
T'Brel's epiphany seemed to just take all the tension and anger in his body. He realized that he couldn't do anything about what was happening out there, but on the Tigershark he could make a difference. That was something that he should cherish and not mull on things outside the realm of his influence or doing.

Making a check of all ships systems was a rather boring job but it did not seem to effect Kirk in the least. Although Kirk was not as keen on human emotions as he used to be but he could still feel a change in the atmosphere of the ship. Command changes were never an easy thing to change, but with life it was out of the senior staff's control.
While the computer was working on the systems analysis Kirk thought he would take the time to tour the ship and get acquainted with a few of the new officers. As he left his console Kirk noticed that T'Brel had watched him leave the bridge.
Making his way down to Main Engineering Kirk found Lt. J.G. Shelby and quickly approached her. He felt some what that he was overstepping his authority by checking in on some of other senior staff members, seeing as it was a duty of the first officer. But as the OPS officer he carried the title of Second Officer and felt it was still with in his duties, and he was going to make sure he was going to do his duties to the best of abilities. Especially after the last mission.
"How is everything looking down here Lieutenant?" Kirk asked.

"Good," Kirk said trying to make small talk, "I am going to be heading back up to the bridge after a few rounds about the ship. Do you want me to bring any reports up to the Admiral?"

KezTrek left the counsellor and headed straight for her quarters, so early in the day and already the atmosphere on the ship was driving her to distraction, she'd told Kahlena to get herself under control, but KezTrek knew herself, she needed to do the same.
Paul had already gone to nursery and although she couldn't be sure, KezTrek assumed Daniel's absence from their quarters meant he was on duty, so she was alone. It was at once a relief and disappointment. Being alone would make her meditation easier, but she longed to have her family close to her, especially in the wake of resent events.
She was being hard on the crew, she knew it, harder than she needed to be maybe, but what they had done had terrified her, what could have happened, didn't bare thinking about... oh she knew, she'd done more than her share of foolish things and would do so in future perhaps, but those were her choices and at least in doing it she'd been there to protect them. Looking at what had happened when she hadn't been there, it didn't instil confidence.
Was that the problem? Had she protected them to the point they couldn't protect themselves. It seemed egotistical and the thought made KezTrek bubble with anger, mostly at herself, but she had to consider it, had she been too laid back, to easy on them, always protecting them from any danger when it was within her power to do so. Should she have let Magellan get his way, should she have handed them over for trial?
That thought was not a pleasant one and immediately she knew, she couldn't have done it, but she couldn't let them off, they needed to understand she couldn't always protect them, couldn't always break the rules and get away with it, even if KezTrek herself had gotten away with it more than enough times.
The whirlwind of thoughts were getting her no where and she didn't want to be away from her duty too long, so she forced herself to focus, to bring her mind back under her control, picturing it as she always had a puzzle taken apart and put back together, a series of dials set exactly where she wanted them.
After a time, although still feeling that something was *wrong* she felt settled enough to return to her duties. She still had a lot to think about, a balance to find between being the Captain she had to be, the parent she often felt like and the friend she wanted to be, it was, almost amusing, in all this time, she still hadn't fully mastered that.
Heading back to the bridge, she was unsurprised to find Flanigan still there, looking over the shoulder of the helms man.
"I'm sure we won't crash if you take your eyes of the helm," KezTrek said.
"I was simply observing how things are done here," Flanigan said.
"Of course," KezTrek said agreeably, taking her seat as Flanigan moved to take his.
"I need to understand how things run on the Tigershark if I'm to adapt to serving here," Flanigan said.
KezTrek didn't reply, but something about how he said it made her hackles rise. She really, most sincerely did not like this man and already she was mentally calculating how long it would take them to arrive at the planet, make the scans and return to Assailant so she could tell Magellan exactly what he could do with him... it was far long than she liked.
"Admiral," Kirk interrupted her sour thoughts.
"Commander, how are our systems looking?" KezTrek asked.

Sensor modifications was extremely boring work, but it had to done. When J'Leera entered the last modifications to the sensors, T'Brel couldn't help, but give a sigh of relief. This type of work just intensified his love of flying. There was nothing like it.
"Thank you Commander, hopefully we won't have to do this again," T'Brel said offering J'Leera a rare smile. T'Brel looked at the chronometer and saw that his shift was no where near over. So he went back to his station and relieved the helmsman.
"Admiral if we increase our speed to Warp 8 we can cut a couple of days off our trip," T'Brel said after he heard Kirk give his reports.
T'Brel surveyed his station, feeling it under his hands, and smiled. It finally hit him why Luke had always had a special place in his heart for the pilot seat. There was nothing like it.
T'Brel checked the recent course changes and the coordinates that Admiral Keztrek had given them. The ship was currently traveling at Warp 7.2, which would get them at their destination in five days. He could increase there speed and get there in half that time.
T'Brel's train of thought was broken when he felt an unfamiliar presence near him. After a few seconds of an uncomfortable feeling, T'Brel realized that it was Commander Flanigan looking over his shoulder.
"Commander can I help you with something?" T'Brel asked.
"No, no carry on," the Commander responded. T'Brel would of hoped for him to take a couple of steps back, but there was no such luck. T'Brel could feel his eyes burying into the back of his head. It was not a good feeling, and for the first time ever T'Brel felt like he didn't wanted to pilot.
"I'm sure we won't crash if you take your eyes of the helm," KezTrek said.
T'Brel couldn't help but smile as he heard Admiral Keztrek response to the Commander's observations.
"I was simply observing how things are done here," Flanigan said.
"Of course," KezTrek said.
Commander Flanigan shortly took his seat next to Admiral Keztrek. T'Brel once again relaxed and put his attention to where it belonged. Though he had a hard time suppressing a laugh when he picked up on Keztrek's real feelings towards the commander.

Kahlena found that Lt. Peers was on duty, and decided it best not to bother him now. She knew there was a time and place to contact him, and now wasn't it. She sighed and went to the officer's mess hall to get something to eat, since her stomach was bothering her. She noted the time, but didn't care. She entered the turbolift.
She knew there was no way she would be able to do her duties unless she conquered her ablitites. She thought she had conquered them a long time ago, but recently she found her nerves messing with it. ~There has to be a way to keep them in check and get nervous. It wouldn't be possible to just get rid of my nerves that quicky. What can I do to keep the two separate?~ She thought as she exited the turbolift.
She made her way to the replicator, then when she had her food and beverage she found a table near a window. She settled down to a little bit of food, and found her appetite hadn't changed. She didn't mind being the odd one out, but she hated not being able to do her duties. When she was done eating she sat looking out at the stars trying to think of a way to conquer this new, and then it hit her, it wasn't just her nerves, but it was fear.
~What do I have to fear here?~
