J'Leera was starting to let a little uneasy with Flanigan hovering over her constantly. She realized that he was only observing and getting to know the ship better, but she never did like people looking over her shoulder. It made her feel very uncomfortable.
She tried to shake the feeling off though and focus on her work. "There, adjust that freqency and modulate the harmonics," she said to herself. "Then turn the relays on and adjust the recievers, and there you have it." She looked around. He was gone. Whew! she let out a sigh of relief, but careful enough not to let it be heard. T'Brel probably heard it, she realized, but she didn't really care.
She sat back in her chair and closed her eyes briefly. I wonder how much longer it'll be until we reach this planet? I wonder when my shifts over... she looked at the time, two more hours to go. She was surprised by that. She supposed though that she had been so focused on her work, that she lost track of time. Suddenly she noticed Keztrek come onto the bridge and she automatically straightened up. She went over to T'Brel and inquired about the ship's systems. J'Leera only briefly listened to this conversation, but perked up when Keztrek spoke to the FO. She looked over and noticed the look on T'Brel's face. She'd have to ask him later what happened, but she was sure it was good.

Settled at his security station Thirteen checked the defensive systems, and ran a few tests on the Tiger Shark's shields. Except for a minor calibration error in the shield's tertiary frequency matrix, everything appeared to be in order, and the glitch was solved within a few minutes. Thirteen leaned back and contemplated on what he was going to do next. Then he discovered that someone was staring over his shoulder.
"Commander," Thirteen addressed the First Officer, "how can I be of service?" "Nothing in particular, I was just interested in how you'd be managing your task." "I do not think that it is to great a burden to address me and ask how I am managing my task instead of interrupting my by appearing behind my back." Flanigan frowned upon the chief security officer's reaction. "That is not a proper way of talking to a superior officer, mister... Thirteen I believe?" "Commander Thirteen," the ex-Borg stressed, "now if you would be so kind to excuse me commander, I have a torpedo tube to attend to for recalibration maintenance."
Thirteen rose from his seat without another word, and headed for the turbo lift, leaving the startled Flanigan. Thirteen's mind raced. This was probably the very first time he'd ever made something up. The lift came to a halt and Thirteen got out and onto his way to the mess hall. He'd begun to develop a sense of taste, and was trying out several dishes of different cultures. Today's menu was Klingon. Thirteen was interested in the Klingon's so called 'living dishes', and ordered one from the replicator.
After thirty minutes of literally chasing his food, which Thirteen quite enjoyed, the chief security got up and headed for the bridge again. The humans have this saying; 'do not play with your food', Thirteen contemplated , this is obviously not applicable to the Klingon dining culture. The doors slid open to reveal the bridge, and Thirteen took his station again, suspiciously eyed by the Tiger Shark's new First Officer.

Well, at least it seems to be an interesting crew, Paul Franklin thought, while moving containers full of scientific and medical equipment around. He had been using the last few days to settle in. His shipmates seemed to be a mish-mash of exotic and less exotic aliens. The senior staff alone barely consisted of species you'd encounter on just any assignment. Looking at it from the point of view of Franklin's field of research, neurology, he couldn't have gotten a better mix of exotic brains (with matching exotic personalities). What else could be expected from a crew about which rumours were going Federation-wide (a taste of which he got during the tenseness of the first mission briefing). First off all, two regular humans, the First Officer and himself. Then, two Vulcan hybrids (Vulcan neurology is an enigma wrapped in a puzzle encased in a riddle, so Franklin was fascinated by Vulcans anyway), one of whom sang an old Earth song on the party organised by the same Vulcan (Vulcans throwing parties?). The other half-Vulcan with regular stress-headaches, which is a rather unique case. Then, a Fabrini, a species Franklin had never really met before. Of course Franklin hadn't forgotten the prominent appearance of a Skorr (a species which Franklin understood had telekinetic abilities). And to top it off, two officers with perhaps the most interesting neurology in the universe: Ex-Borg! One of which Franklin had witnessed eating Klingon food (well, the food the ex-Borg officer could catch before it crawled off the plate onto the table and further), while he got a cup of coffee from the messhall. To cut a long story short, the doctor was already interested in conducting their physicals. A nurse pulled him out of this sequence of thoughts, reporting that all new hypoviles had been properly catalogged. Franklin thanked her, but couldn't help but grin when he grabbed a container of a very large pile, opening it and reveiling two dozen extra chemical compounds, not standardly carried on starships (one of the advantages of being a prominent scientist). The nurse was about to protest when Franklin assured her he would lend a hand as soon as he was done setting up one of the most delicate parts of his instrumentarium, the quandatic fiber optifier. Before setting it up, however, he sent a message to the senior staff, requesting them to come by for a full physical at their earliest convenience. Even though that was standard procedure, with a crew as diverse as this, Franklin couldn't wait to get started. OOC: Don't be alarmed by the freakiness of Franklin's fascination with your anatomy. He usually won't dissect anyone without their consent

After a brief tour around the ship Kirk felt he had a much busier day than just the simple systems checks that he was supposed to do. He had to admit that he felt fulfilled by his tour of the ship and looked forward to another in the next few days.
As he arrived back on the bridge Kirk noticed the new first officer was making his rounds on the bridge still. It seems that is all this officer does, Kirk thought to himself as he walked up to his station.
Checking his station he noticed the various system scans he had performed had finally been completed by the computer. Kirk felt good knowing that if he had not been making a walk through of the ship he would have been standing on the bridge with nothing much else to do.
"Commander, how are our systems looking?" KezTrek asked interrupting Kirk's wondering thoughts.
"Everything is looking to be in peak shape." Kirk said looking up to the Admiral, "Aside from some minor changes that were made by the future versions of ourselves, the ship is just as we had left it."
Admiral KezTrek nodded at the information and appeared to be pleased with the information Kirk had given to her. Picking a PADD with the information he had acquired during his travels he stepped from behind his console and walked over to the Admiral's chair.
"Admiral," Kirk said addressing KezTrek, "I took it upon myself to do a quick walk through of the ship to evaluate the ship's moral and grab systems reports from each of the department heads. This PADD has those reports as well as my personal report about ships moral." Kirk finished as he handed the Admiral the data PADD.

OFF: This is a joined post from Franklin and Thirteen! Enjoy ! ON: A message came up just as Thirteen loaded and unloaded the forward phaser banks for the third time. It was a request for a physical, and Thirteen was glad to take it as an excuse to leave the bridge once again. He followed the usual course that'd take him to sickbay, and arrived there five minutes later. Sickbay's doors slid open to reveal a sickbay Thirteen could not remember. The man that appeared to be the Tiger Shark's new CMO was eagerly darting through the room, walking from one piece of equipment to another, all of which Thirteen had not encountered before. "Greetings," Thirteen started, "I have received your message, and as now is my earliest convenience; I am here for my full physical." The man turned around, revealing a middle-aged face. "Ah, you are fast! The first to arrive. Have a seat," the doctor motioned towards the bio beds, which were crowded with medical containers and supplies. "I didn't pull you straight out of duty, did I?" he said, while walking away, around a corner, carrying a lump of something that looked quite organic. "As a matter of fact you did," Thirteen said as he placed himself on the bio bed after moving a few containers, "however it did not at all interrupt my shift, as I was actually quite, bored, as I think it is called." Franklin laughed. "It's interesting to hear that coming from a Starfleet officer, yet somewhat typical." The doctor turned around the corner again, carrying something which looked like a very large needle. Taking a few steps into sickbay, he suddenly grounded to a halt. "... Or coming from an ex-Borg." He finally noticed Thirteen's ocular implant, stepped back, grabbed a generic device from a nearby table, and approached Thirteen again. He stretched his hand. "Franklin, call me Paul." Thirteen took the man's hand, and shook it. "I am lieutenant commander Thirteen, however you may address me as Thirteen." "Well Thirteen, lie down please. Be careful with that container though," Franklin pointed towards the head-end of the bed, "it contains very valuable material." On pointing towards it, the container shook and vibrated a bit. Thirteen lay down, careful not to hit the container, wondering what it contained. "What is in it?" he asked, not able to suppress a form of curiosity. "Sporocistian cells, very valuable." Franklin took out a tricorder and started scanning Thirteen, particularly, but subtle, around his cranial area. "I must say it's an honour meeting you. As you may have heard, my field of research is neuroscience, and ex-Borg are particularly interesting in that area." "It would be great to help you with your research, as I am trying to find out who I was before I got assimilated, and how I can return to function indistinguishably from an ordinary human. Learning about myself through your neuroscientific research may help me achieving this." Franklin was baffled for a moment. Not often did research material offer itself, and this time even a living organism. "I would be glad to help you do that, from a neurological point of view. And you'd be a great asset to my research. Thank you." The CMO quickly recomposed himself. "In any case, it may be best to focus on the physical examination. Open your mouth please," Franklin said while he took out the needle-like apparatus. Thirteen did as the man told, yet closed his mouth again. "Exactly what are your plans with that needle doctor? It seems rather capable of damaging me, more than examine." Franklin grinned. "Open up again, I won't puncture holes again. This cylinder will measure multiple bio readings in your mouth and throat area." "Very well," Thirteen said obeying Franklin. Franklin put the needle into Thirteens mouth, and pressed a button on the base of it. The cylinder instantly began humming. A few seconds later, Franklin turned the device off again. "All done, and it seems you are rather healthy." Franklin disposed of the needle by sticking it into an apparatus, which in turn started to hum. "That is good to hear," Thirteen said rising from the bio bed. "It is interesting to see you brought a lot of things to our sickbay, most of which I am unaware of what they are." "It's unnerving that Starfleet medical still doesn't use these on it's spaceboarne facilities. Most of these improve upon accuracy over the old devices," Franklin motioned to his tricorder, "and they are a lot faster too. Plus, I plan on continuing my research during my time on board and, perhaps the most persuasive argument... I just love knick-knacks." He grinned a bit at this last argument. "It has been nice to meet you," Thirteen said, "we shall soon make an appointment as to examine several aspects of my brain's neurology, I presume?" "The pleasure is all mine, and that would seem like an excellent idea." Thirteen nodded at Franklin, and left sickbay to once again head for the bridge.

Sensors were at full power and opperating a peak efficiency, so she was given permission to leave the bridge and end her shift. The day wasn't too much of a waste, she realized, but adjusting sensors was not exactly exciting work. When she reached her quarters she went directly to the replicator and ordered a plate of pancakes. Breakfast food for dinner? she could hear Luke's voice laughing over her choice and she smiled to herself.
She went to her table and sat down to eat. On the table sat the academy picture that Luke had left her. She paused for a moment and picked the picture up, admiring it. How little she knew then, she reflected. She glanced over at the mirror and realized how much older she looked since the picture had been taken. I guess this is what stress does to you...
She set the picture down and turned back to her food. Suddenly she heard her computer beaping, letting her know that she had a new message. She went over to look and saw that the new ship's doctor had requested that she come down to sickbay for a physical ASAP, so she quickly finished her dinner and went down.
"May as well get this over with," she mumbled to herself.
She didn't see the doctor right away, so she stood by and waited for him to come by.

Kahlena found space to be a bit of a bore for her, and she wondered what else she could do. She knew she wasn't ready to meditate again, but she so wanted to try. She had to push those feelings aside for now. She knew that too much meditation would hurt her, and that wouldn't help her in any way. She decided to go to the holodeck to see if there was a glitch in her telekinetic ablities. She hoped not, but thought it would be good exercise for her.
She had the computer bring up her homeworld, and she made her way to the training grounds. She had the computer make it where she was the only one in the program. She didn't want others, especially those younger, to see what she could and couldn't do, they would mock her.
She moved to the center of the middle circle, and noticed the objects around her varying in size. She picked the smallest one to start with, a pebble. She decided to work her way up the size scale, even though she knew that size didn't matter in this. She got to work immediately.
A little while later, she found herself picking up the second largest boulder in the program, and as she was raising to get it higher, someone interrupted her.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't know anyone would be using the holodeck at this time. I can come back later," they said, and she found she dropped the larger boulder on the ground cracking it a bit. The crack would make it more difficult to raise the rock. She decided then was a good place to relax from all the training.
"It's ok, you don't have to leave. Maybe we can find a program we will both enjoy. I have never been mountain climbing, and I hear it is fun. What would you like to do?" Kahlena asked not sure of all this.

Finding that his duty shift was over hours ago Kirk finally decided it was time to call it a day. Making sure everything was running smoothly on the Tiger Shark was not an easy job, factor in the all seeing eye that was their commanding officer made the job that much tougher on the OPS officer. The pressure of the job was really the only thing that made Kirk feel alive from time to time.
During the last few weeks Kirk had noticed he had begun to alienate himself from the rest of the crew and he could not really understand why. He was finding a particular spot in the crew lounge comfortable, and the routine of going there after his shifts for hours at a time calmed his nerves.
Routines, Kirk thought, sounds so very Borg.
it was a concept he was trying to get away from since coming back to the human race, but no matter how hard he tried the scars were there in plain site. Always there as a constant reminder of his time as a slave, a taker of lives, an unemotional, uncaring...devil.
"Holodeck 2." Kirk ordered as he stepped onto the turbo lift.
The uneventful ride kept Kirk's mind racing with thoughts of ways to make him feel more...human. He was so deep in thought that he had forgotten to check to see if the holodeck was in use or not and to his surprise he found a lone woman standing in the middle of the room with a large bolder floating in the air.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't know anyone would be using the holodeck at this time. I can come back later," Kirk said as he started to turn around to leave.
"It's ok, you don't have to leave. Maybe we can find a program we will both enjoy. I have never been mountain climbing, and I hear it is fun. What would you like to do?" Kahlena asked not sure of all this.
What do you like to do? The question hung with Kirk for a second. It was simple question with a simple answer, and the fact that he did not have an answer was bothering him to his core.
"I do not know." Kirk finally managed to say, "What do you suggest?"

KezTrek took Kirk's PADD and removed herself to her ready room, she was getting dizzy from Flanigan moving about the bridge so much, the man had 'ants in his pant's KezTrek thought with amusement.
"Raktajino," KezTrek instructed the replicater, taking a seat on the couch in her ready room, far more comfortable than the desk. She flickered through Kirk's report, but her mind wasn't really on it. With a sigh, she sat back and slowly forced her body to relax muscle by muscle. What she really needed was some good old fashioned physical exertion, since the planet was uninhabited, maybe KezTrek would be able to take a day and go explore, climb a mountain, walk through an untouched forest, the holodeck could recreate anything she wanted or could imagine wanting but it was never quite the same, it couldn't recreate the feeling of life that inhabited the real world if you just took the time to look for it.
"O'Neill to KezTrek," Daniel's call interrupted her thoughts.
"Yes Daniel?" KezTrek asked.
"If you aren't too busy, you might want to come to sickbay, Paul's had a little fall," Daniel said.
"I'll be right there," KezTrek said immediately, not even bothering to tell Flanigan where she was going as she moved through the bridge towards the turbolift.
Paul was sitting up on one of the beds, red faced and crying when KezTrek entered sickbay, while a nurse cleaned a cut on his head.
"What happened?" KezTrek asked.
"He was running, tripped and hit his head, I'm sure it's nothing, I just wanted to be sure," Daniel said.
"Lt Cmdr O'Neill is correct, nothing a little TLC won't cure," a man KezTrek recognised only from personnel pictures said.
"Dr. Franklin I assume," KezTrek said.
"Of course, Admiral KezTrek, a pleasure to meet you, when can I expect you to be free for your physical?" Franklin asked.
Daniel snorted beside her. "Good luck with that," he muttered.
KezTrek glared, but it was undercut with humour. "I'm sure I'll find the time eventually Doctor," KezTrek said, her face once against straight as she looked at the physician. "Now, however, if this young man is okay, I think maybe a nap is in order for him, if that's okay with you?"
"Yes he's fine, wake him up in an hour or so, if he experiences dizziness bring him back, otherwise I see nothing wrong with him," Franklin said, looking a little... put out. KezTrek considered actually letting him give her a physical, she probably *was* due for one, but unless she was injured she preferred to not be in sickbay and even when she was injured, she preferred to not be in sickbay. Still Franklin seemed nice enough on first impressions; maybe she'd go easy on him.
*Rear Admiral KezTrek's Quarters*
KezTrek put Paul down to sleep, brushing hair back from his head.
"He was asking earlier about going to visit Grandpa Daniel. I don't think he understands," Daniel said quietly as they closed his bedroom door.
"Good. He's too young to understand what death means," KezTrek said.
"I thought when we get back to Assailant, maybe we could invite Dad to come visit us," Daniel said.
"Jonathan is welcome here anytime," KezTrek said, realising she hadn't told Daniel everything Jonathan had said when he called her yet. "Although he said he was going away somewhere, didn't say when he'd be back."
"Away where?" Daniel asked.
"He didn't say. Just said to tell you he was fine. He's a grown man Daniel, perfectly able to go away without having to tell us where he's going. I think he just wanted some alone time." KezTrek told him.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Daniel asked.
"Because it slipped my mind, because I couldn't talk to you without being accused of not caring about your parents, take your pick," KezTrek said.
"That's not fair," Daniel said.
"No, it wasn't. Look, Daniel I'm not getting into this now. I'm sorry I missed the funeral, I'm sorry I have other responsibilities, I'm sorry I can't be a stay at home wife and mother and always be there for you and our family, but you knew all this when you married me. I can't and won't change who I am," KezTrek said.
"No, I don't suppose you can," Daniel said, walking out.
KezTrek watched him go and sighed. Some days it wasn't worth getting out of bed.

OOC: JP with Jon Kirk!
IC:
"Well, we can really do anything. I came in here to relax and see if my skill was still working, or to see if I had bigger problems. I could take you flying if you want," she offered not sure of what to do.
"I do not really know about that," Kirk said wondering what she ment, "Is there something wrong with the gravity emitters in here?" Kirk finally asked.
"No, I think they are fine, but I have wings," she said realizing he hadn't noticed them. ~How do you miss wings on a birdlike creature?~ She thought, and tried not to chuckle.
Kirk felt like a fool, but his sudden interuption into the holodeck had taken his attention off the most obvious things.
"I do not reconize your species." Kirk stated too coldly for his liking. ~Wow, ice king, great, and I was hoping for a new friend.~
"I am Skorr. Maybe we should go talk instead of play in the holodeck?" She suggested wondering how the idea would go. She heard her stomach, and was glad she couldn't blush like other species.
"I think that is a good idea." Kirk said. Stepping in front of the holodeck doors he waited for the Kahlena. She walked over and told the computer to end the program. They walked out together.
"Did you introduce yourself? I don't remember you doing so," she said fishing for his name as they arrived at the turbolift
"Sorry," Kirk said, "Commander Jonathan Kirk, I am the Chief Opperations Officer. May I have your name?"
"I am Kahlena, the new counsellor," she said hoping that he hadn't heard of her earlier actions yet. She stepped into the turbolift waiting for him.
"Ah," Kirk simply stated. He was never a fan of counsellors, not since his return from the Borg. It seemed no matter how much Kirk told a counsellor about how well he was doing, or feeling they still felt he was never as well off as he said he was.
Stepping onto the turbo lift Kirk felt the tension starting to build and there was nothing he could do about it. Where is T'Brel when you need him? Kirk thought as the turbo lift began to move.
She noticed a change in him, and realized he probably had heard of her actions. She did her best not to groan. "The silent type, very nice," she teased. "Look, I know what happened early must be a shock, but I am not a bad person. Because of my nerves, I won't be counselling anyone for awhile, admiral's orders."
"What do you mean? What happened earlier?" Kirk inquired.
Kahlena took a second look at Kirk then began to inform him of what happened earlier on the bridge.
"I did not hear any of that," Kirk started, "I just...have a hard time around counsellors."
"Oh, well.... um.... I don't see any problems so far, do you?" She said not that she was making this out to be a counselling session. She realized where her thoughts were going, and she tried to stear clear of those thoughts.
"So, where do you come from? I have never seen a winged race before." Kirk asked hoping to start a conversation.
"I am from a the planet Vedela. Where do u hail from?" She asked, hoping to keep this conversation going, and her mind off those thoughts, which wasn't working.
"I am a good old home grown human from Earth," Kirk said sounding more human than Borg.
"I didn't know humans were grown like food, how interesting," she said, teasing him, knowing fully well that they weren't.
Kirk smiled, it was the first time he had done so in as long as he remembered. She liked seeing him smile, and found that her thoughts returned to the same idea again, which she tried to ignore. It wasn't working, and she was tired of trying not to think of it. It seemed like forever when suddenly the turbo lift doors opened and Kirk motioned for Kahlena to exit.
She noticed he was letting her go first, and she wondered what that meant. She went ahead, and then noticed they walked side by side again. She tried not to stare at him.
“Is there something wrong with your eyes Counsellor?” Kirk asked as he noticed the constant glances, “I have not seen the new doctor yet, but his records look good.”
"I am sure I will get to meet him soon too, and there is nothing wrong with my eyes," she said. ~He noticed, oh no. Now what? I will try not to look at him again, but that isn't going to be easy.~ She thought, and noticed they reached the mess hall.
Kirk stopped at the door and took a second to look in as it opened up. This was the last place he wanted to be, he was looking to break his routine and ended up right where he did not want to be.
“I am sorry Counsellor, but I must be taking my leave of you.” Kirk said as he walked away with out giving Kahlena a chance to stop him.
She watched him walk away, and wondered what was going on.

J'Leera soon realized that the doctor was very busy, especially when someone brought a little boy in. Isn't that Kez's little boy, Daniel? I hope he's okay she said noticing the small wound on his forehead.
She decided to leave a message with one of the nurses for the doctor to send her a message as soon as he was free. She was feeling a little fidgity, so she thought that a quick trip to the holodeck would be great.
When she arrived, she selected a program that she had not used in a long time. This program featured a variety of mountains with various degees of difficulty. She picked one of the harder one and quickly selected her snowboard. Before long she was at the top of the mountain and racing down as fast as she could go. It was quite exilerating and it felt great to get away from real life for a while.
After going down the slopes for a while, she decided to check out the snowboard park. She was never good at stunts, so she had the program add in an instructor and before long, she was starting to master a few basic jumps.
She was starting to get tired, so she packed up her gear and went down to get a drink. Snowboarding always left her quite dehydrated, so she got several. In the lodge, she rested awhile sipping her drink and wondering what everyone was doing.

Thirteen stared at the security console without any intention. He did not have a clue on what he'd do next. According to the computer more of the Tiger Shark's crew felt the same way, at least Thirteen concluded so from the notice that the holodecks were taken. Thirteen rose to his feet, and met Flanigan's gaze, which Thirteen interpreted to say: "Where do we think we're going?" The ex-Borg gave no notice to it, and left the bridge.
Thirteen entered his quarters, took a padd from his desk, and sat down on the couch. He'd been busy studying Human forms of music, and was introducing himself to the many styles of music that were available. During his research he'd come to the conclusion that each individual had their own taste of music, and Thirteen hoped that by listening to different styles he'd find his preference.
Just as a number from the so called 'heavy metal' category raged by, the computer indicated that one of the holodecks had become available. Thirteen pauzed the music, and went to the holodeck. He instructed the computer to simulate a space battle, quite a few times more complicated than they'd usually occur. For the hour that Thirteen spent in the holodeck hé was the captain of the Tiger Shark and, after a tremendous battle, he'd managed to get the ship and it's crew out alive. The down side was that the heavily damaged Tiger Shark met Borg on their way to the starbase, and got assimilated entirely, but still Thirteen was somewhat proud that at least he'd won the battle.
Yet as he went on his way to the messhall, and reviewed the simulation in his head, he got stuck on the last few minutes, the part where the Borg took the Tiger Shark from him. They took his home, his family, once again... Thirteen shook off the idea, and told himself to be rational. It was just a simulation, Thirteen told himself. The idea still wasn't out of his mind as he aproached the messhall, and had only raised images from the past. They went past his eyes again, all these images that seemed not to form a story, and present themselves in random order.
"Excuse me commander. Commander?" Thirteen snapped out of it. "Are you alright sir?" Thirteen turned and found an ensign adressing him. "You're kinda holding up the entrance," she smiled at him. Then Thirteen realised that he'd been pondering in the doorway of the messhall, and that several people were waiting to get in. "My apologies, I was lost in thought," Thirteen said as he moved to let the crewmen pass. His appetite, for as far as he had it, had gone, and Thirteen decided to head for the brig section to check the force fields of the holding cells, just to keep himself busy.

T'Brel hadn't felt this way since the middle of there last mission. All of bones, muscles, and tendons ached with pain. It surprised him that he could be so tired. His routine was not different than any other day. Well there was one slight difference, the all surveying eye of the new first officer.
T'Brel promptly shed his uniform, changed into some meditation clothes and started to chant a Vulcan poem. It always calmed him down, even though the poems bored him most of the time.
~~You know you shouldn't recite these insipid poems, they bore us too~~
~~Marana be quiet, stop picking on him~~
~Thank you Selin, but her voice has helped me to calm down~ T'Brel informed Peers former host. His Vulcan neurology seemed to enhance the host, symbiont relationship. T'Brel had contacted a couple of people on Trill, but they were dealing with a bigger problem.
~~Just go to sleep, I think we're even tired~~
~Selin, I didn't know you had jokes in you~ T'Brel said smiling and taking his advice. Soon he was sleeping, not pleasantly but still sleeping.

The rest of the day past quite uneventfully and J'Leera was able to get a good night's rest before heading back up to the bridge for her morning shift. Tension always seemed high on the bridge, mainly due to their new FO. He probably was a nice guy really, but he made their jobs very difficult by the way he was always hovering over their shoulders and eyeing them. It made some of the ensigns very nervous and they would often avert their eyes away from in him if he came over.
Other than that, everyone seemed to be in a relaxed mood. It was only a planetary mission afterall, so what could go wrong?
A few days of this sort of travel went by rather quickly, but it gave people a chance to meet the new officers and to rest. J'Leera still missed Luke and often expected to see him on the bridge as she came up for her morning shift. It just didn't seem the same without him.
I wonder what he's up to? she thought to herself.
That morning was going to be a big day. They were arriving in the planetary system, the Calium System to be more precise and they were going to spend a long day cataloguing atmospheric reports, surface scans and anything else that they could find.
"Well, here we are," T'Brel said looking the planet over on the scanners. "Not too impressive is it?"
"You would be surprised," J'Leera smiled while conducting a few other scans. "We may discover something that could change the course of history itself."
"Oh, I doubt we'd be that lucky," he shook his head. "We are being punished afterall. Would Starfleet seriously send us to a planet where we might actually discover something?"
She shrugged. "Who knows?"
"Eyes on your work people!" the FO's voice rang out. "Let's finish these scans so that we don't have to sit here all year."
J'Leera frowned and returned quietly to her work and T'Brel did the same. She looked over at Kirk was busying working at his station and seemed quite occupied. Well, he probably wasn't really all that busy, but after that comment from Flanigan, why risk not being busy?
She sighed and turned back to her own work, trying hard not to be annoyed. Suddenly her console beaped and she looked over to see what it was. "Hmm...the atmosphere seems to be giving off some kind of radiation."
She checked it out further, but did not see anything of importance about it. Maybe as we get closer and can do a more detailed analysis on it, she decided.

Kirk had found himself back on the bridge rather early the next morning. He really had nothing else to do and work had always seemed a good way to keep bordom away. Getting knee deep into the ships systems again he found nothing out of the normal, and that did not surprise him in the least. Nothing was wrong 24 hours ago and the probability of something being wrong now was slim.
That was short lived, Kirk thought still deep into his work. Letting his mind roam he began to invision Flanigan more as a jailor than a First Officer. On several occasions Kirk had noticed he viewed the crew with contempt, almost as if he felt that something was taken away from him because of this crew. It was a random thought since Kirk knew nothing about the man's background, and had no desire to learn about it.
The planet grew in size as the Tiger Shark took up a standard orbit around the planet. The bridge was devoid of talking, the only sounds being heard were console beeps and sensor reactions.
"Should we send down an away team?" Kirk finally asked.

After sitting in the mess hall for what seemed like forever, she got up and took her plate to the replicator, making it disappear. She left to see more of the ship. She wandered the halls not sure of where she might end up.
She found herself staring out at the stars again on some other deck. ~Why am I afraid? What is it that scares me here? I am lucky to be here, lucky to be standing on this deck.~ She thought remembering a couple of years ago.
It had been a long hard night, and Kahlena was ready to have it over with. She didn't like being on duty for two days in a row, but she knew she couldn't let her guard down. He was after her and she knew he was close. Lokani would do anything to enslave her, and if she fought he would kill her. She didn't want to be anyone's slave, and planned to fight, even if it meant death. She felt she was ready for him, and then it hit. Her eyes closed, and she found she couldn't open them.
A couple of hours later, she felt something wrap around her neck, and her eyes opened quick and wide. She found he was there, and she was caught.
"I have you now, and you won't escape me ever again. You will regret that awful day years ago, I will make sure you will never forget it. You are my mate now, and I won't have it any other way." He said, a smile on his face. She didn't know how she could have let this happen. She remembered that day, and didn't dwell on it. She quickly brought out her knife, and cut him on the wrist. He started to choke the life out of her, and she knew what she had to do. She brought the knife up quickly, ending his life as fast as possible, so he didn't end hers. She pried his fingers from her throat.
She pushed back the memory, finding she was afraid to die, but she didn't see why that would come into play here. She was always ready for anyone who would attack her, so she didn't see why she should be so afraid. She hadn't been defeated in combat since she was twelve.
Suddenly a hand was on her shoulder, and she grabbed it without thinking. She threw the person over her shoulder, thinking she was being attacked. She noticed it was some male, and that many were staring in her direction. She realized what she had done, and rushed forward hoping he wasn't hurt.
"I am so sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. Are you okay?" She said quickly hoping he wasn't hurt. The last thing she wanted was for the captain to lock her away for hurting the crew.

An away team would be a good idea, J'Leera thought. She glanced up from her work and turned around in her chair waiting to see what the Commander thought. He appeared to be in deep thought, but did not say anything. Finally he spoke and said that he would not be sending one at the moment claiming that it was much too soon to send anyone down.
There's nothing down there! J'Leera grumbled to herself. It won't take but a day to do these scans and we haven't found anything dangerous yet, so why not send a team?
She stood up, "Sir, if I may say something?"
He turned around to face her. His expression did not seem pleased. "Yes, Commander what is it?"
"The scans are nealry complete, at least what we can conduct from this altitude. If we can send a team down to the surface, we can gather much more information and we can get this mission over with faster," she paused so that he could consider this. "That is what you wanted, was it not?" she added.
He frowned. "We will finish this mission with the utmost commitment. I do not want any of us to hurry through just so we 'get it over faster' as you put it. We are Starfleet officers and it does not matter what we think or how long it takes for this mission. Kindly remember that. And as for you suggestion, I will take it under advisement and get back with you on it."
J'Leera slowly turned back to her console shaking her head and mouthing the word 'wow'. Is this guy for real? She went back to the scans and began looking at the radiation that she began picking up.
"Commander Peers? Would you come here and take a look at this?" she asked, pointing at the scans of the radiation belt around the planet.

As T'Brel looked over the scans, she moved over to Kirk's station. "Hey," she said and he looked up. She lowered her voice. "I know that Flanigan doesn't want any away missions at this point, but I think that you should start planning one anyway. Get togeather an inventory of equipment and a security detail for the mission, then set the plans aside for the moment. I have a feeling he's going to change his mind and I want to be ready. Also, be ready to inform the doctor as well."

OFF: Okay boys and girls I'm going to give a little *shove* here, to push things forward. I believe those who need to do something, know what that something is ON: KezTrek frowned when she entered the bridge. Everyone seemed tense, Flanigan's presence was even grating on her nerves. "Commander, what's our status," KezTrek asked. "We're running scans now Admiral," Flanigan replied. "J'Leera?" KezTrek turned to her science officer. "It's a typical M-Class atmosphere, except for some strange readings I can't identify," J'Leera replied quietly. KezTrek looked at her, J'Leera was never the loudest or most out spoken of her crew but she seemed almost reticent. "Commander Flanigan, a word please," KezTrek said, heading for her ready room. "Is there a problem I should be aware of?" KezTrek asked him. "No Admiral," Flanigan replied shortly. "My bridge crew are tense and I doubt very much it's because they are stressed from running scans," KezTrek said. Flanigan shifted his eyes away from her for a moment, barely longer than a blink. "Commander Laika suggest we send down an away team, at this stage I don't agree it's necessary." KezTrek considered it. "You're right commander, why send an away team when we can go explore for ourselves." "Excuse me?" Flanigan asked clearly surprised. "Go prep a shuttle, you and I are going to do a little exploration of our own." KezTrek instructed him. "Admiral you can't be serious, this is an almost entirely unexplored planet, you're a flag officer and even if you weren't it isn't wise for both of us to be off the ship at the same time," Flanigan argued. "I didn't ask if it was wise Commander. Prep a shuttle, that's an order." KezTrek said coolly. Flanigan looked set to argue further, but he held himself back, nodding curtly before he left. KezTrek followed him out. "J'Leera, you have command until I get back," KezTrek said. "Admiral?" J'Leera looked at her confused. "Commander Flanigan and I are going to do a little exploring run some scans on the other side of the planet. Complete these scans and then take the ship into a lower orbit for more conclusive one's, let me know if you find anything worth a closer look," KezTrek instructed. "Yes Admiral," J'Leera nodded.

T'Brel doubted that anyone was enjoying there present mission. Yes they were exploring a new planet in an almost untouched system, but the constant presence of a certain commander just killed the mood. It was obvious, but the Commander acted like he didn't notice.
The Tigershark was currently in high orbit, which didn't help J'Leera or her science teams, but it couldn't be helped. His suggestion of getting closer to the planet was shot down by the Commander. It seemed that AJ Flanigan was determined to cause them problems, but luckily for T'Brel he could suppress the emotion to hit him.
"Commander Peers? Would you come here and take a look at this?" she asked, pointing at the scans of the radiation belt around the planet.
T'Brel walked towards J'Leera's station and looked at what she was talking about. The radiation was prevalent around the planet, but strangely enough the planet itself didn't read any harmful effect from it. In fact the radiation would be invisible if it wasn't for a slight modification to the viewscreen.
"Commander Laika, do you know how dense the radiation belt is around the planet?" T'Brel asked looking at the scans more detailed. He couldn't place it, but the belt hit him as out of place. It was to uniform, to concentrated, it was like it had been placed there.
T'Brel scolded himself when he realized that J'Leera was now talking to Jonathan, but they both thought it was just funny. "Well what do you guys think?"

T'Brel was not comforted by J'Leera's non answer. When it came to space phenomena she always had an answer and if she was perplexed, T'Brel felt that he should be too. Though his scientific curiosity was peaked.
With his curiosity peaked, T'Brel didn't notice what Admiral Keztrek was doing until it was done. When J'Leera took the center seat, T'Brel for the first time relaxed.
"Commander what are your orders?" T'Brel asked hoping he could get closer to the radiation belt.

"Well what do you guys think?"
Standing for a second, Kirk trying to answer the question with a single well thought out answer but nothing was coming to him. He had no explination for how or why the radiation have come to be where it was.
"I know that Flanigan doesn't want any away missions at this point, but I think that you should start planning one anyway. Get togeather an inventory of equipment and a security detail for the mission, then set the plans aside for the moment. I have a feeling he's going to change his mind and I want to be ready. Also, be ready to inform the doctor as well." J'Leera said.
"I will start gather the resources." Kirk said as he started in at his console. Then as if suddenly Kirk, T'Brel and J'Leera turned their attention to the Captain's chair as Keztrek was talking with Flanigan.
Kirk strained to listen in but he still could not make out what was being said. Then suddenly Admiral Keztrek turned around and handed command of the bridge over to J'Leera. Kirk could have swore he saw a smile cracking on T'Brel's face.
J'Leera slowly took the Captain's chair, it was odd seeing her in that seat again. It reminded him of the time when T'Brel and himself have come aboard for the firs time. With in seconds of J'Leera finally setting into the center chair Kirk could feel the tension of the room drop back down to a normal level.
"What are you orders Commander?" T'Brel said as he made his way back to the Helm console.

James blinked when his commanding officer suggested they both should explore the planet together. It wasn't something he was looking forward to, especially not since it meant leaving Antoinette behind. Yet, when he met Keztrek's gaze, he instantly knew that there was no way he could get out of this one; she wanted him off the ship one way or the other.
When he had taken on the assignment, James had known it wouldn't be easy. Not on him but not on the crew either; what he had observed so far was an extremely loyal crew that would go at great lengths for their commanding officer and right now that loyalty was being punished.
The counselor in him knew that Keztrek herself was dealing with some very serious issues, but he knew better than to address them. Confidently, he stepped out of the readyroom, but his entire stance echoed his discomfort. Turning, he looked back at Keztrek. "Before prepping a shuttle, I would like a few minutes with my daughter," he announced, "she'll need to know why she can't come. I've never left her alone before, you see?"
Keztrek's eyes were blazing, but James gazed right back at her, undeterred. At last she nodded and James exhaled, not even aware that he'd even held his breath while awaiting her response. With a final nod towards J'Leera, he exited the bridge right after Keztrek.
It didn't take too long for James to explain to his teenage daughter that she'd have to spend a couple of days on her own. He even thought it might do her good. "Perhaps Doctor Franklin will let you assist in sickbay," he suggested, fully aware of his young daughter's aspirations to become a doctor, "or perhaps Kahlena will enjoy your presence." There, he frowned. He didn't trust this draconic creature, not when she elevated crewmembers at will.
"I'll be fine daddy," Antoinette replied, smiling as she registered her father's surprise, "I'm sure I'll be able to reach you at any time, and I trust you won't be away too long."
James hugged his daughter in response. "You know I won't be too long darling," he whispered at her, "but I have to go now or face the admiral's wrath. And she does seem like a vengeful person to me. Be a good girl, and don't cause trouble eh?" He grinned down at her, then exited their quarters to obey orders and prepare a shuttle.
Minutes later, James and Keztrek were ready for departure. "Bridge, this is Commander Flanigan," he announced, "shuttlecraft Hades is ready for lift-off."

The red alert alarm call echoed throughout the ship. =/\= Security to decks 9 and 11, intruder alert! =/\= came the call from operations. "Come on Alex," Mick said tapping his female colleague on her shoulder, "that's our call." The woman nodded, and followed him as both picked up their phaser rifles. "Turbolift?" Alex asked. "No go; too dangerous, we'd best climb a jeffries," Mick responded.
The two security officers climbed towards their destination. Carefully Mick entered deck 9, followed immediately by Alex. The corridor appeared to be abandoned. It was silent, and no where was anyone to be seen. Mick motioned Alex to follow him, as he slowly advanced on the corner. Alex looked at him, and he nodded. She jumped out into the open, her rifle aiming into the adjacent corridor. Nothing.
She slowly walked on, while Mick covered the rear. Alex felt tense, she was not about to fail once more. Mick went in too, and the two reached an intersection. Alex motioned she'd take left, and Mick agreed to take right. Mick read her lips as Alex counted to three, then they made their move.
Alex eyes grew wide and were filled with fear, causing her to stop dead, paralyzed. Mick looked around at his fellow security officer, and didn't hesitate to shoot. But it was too late already, the ectoplasmic entity had already taken down Alex. Mick dropped his head, now facing the floor, and sighed deeply in disappointment. "Computer, end program."
Mick helped Alex up from the floor. Her eyes were filled with tears. "Hey, you okay?" Mick asked. Alex shook her head. "What kind of security officer is paralyzed in the one moment she shouldn't be?" Mick put his hand on her shoulder. "Come, let's get to the mess, have a cup of coffee or something." Alex nodded.
"Do you think I should go see the counselor?" Alex asked as she and Mick were on their way to the messhall. "Well, you might, I mean, if you think that helps." Alex gave Mick a weak smile. "It's okay," she said, "not only loons go see the counselor right?" Mick laughed. "Yeah I guess you're right. But of course you could also ask commander Thirteen, I mean hey, he's our section's leader right?" Alex nodded. "Good idea, I think I'll do that... I wonder how he'll respond though." "He may be an ex-Borg, but he's cool, I'm sure he won't laugh in your face, he'll consider it seriously." Alex smiled. "Thanks Mick."
***
The force fields of the brig section's holding cells were indeed one hundred percent operational as Thirteen had predicted. There was not much to be done for a security officer when they were researching a planet, unless if there'd be an away mission. Thirteen hoped that was going to be the case, and decided to head for the bridge and see if that was to become reality.
Thirteen was surprised to find commander Laika in the command chair rather than the admiral. "Commander, did I miss anything vital?" he addressed her. J'Leera explained the situation. "I must say that I am relieved to see that for a moment we are not under the constant eye of our new first officer. I think it is just to say that he was getting on my nerves." J'Leera gave him a smile. "I will be at my station in case you need me commander," Thirteen nodded at J'Leera as he went to take his place at the security station.

As J'Leera was discussing the away mission with Kirk, Keztrek came up on the bridge. What happened next was very odd and she wasn't quite sure that she understand what was happening. All that she knew was that Keztrek was taking Flanigan away in a shuttlecraft and leaving her in command. Remembering Keztrek's demeaner toward her during the mission briefing and their supposed punishment, she was nothing short of astonished of this order.
"Commander Flanigan and I are going to do a little exploring run some scans on the other side of the planet. Complete these scans and then take the ship into a lower orbit for more conclusive one's, let me know if you find anything worth a closer look," KezTrek instructed.
"Yes, Admiral," she nodded and quickly took the command chair before she got too nervous. She then quickly composed herself and surveyed the bridge crew. They appeared as suprised as she felt. Thirteen came up to the bridge soon after. He seemed quite pleased that Flanigan was gone and he happily took his post at the security console.
"Well, you heard the Admiral's orders people," she said. "Let's get to work and not let her down! T'Brel, bring us down to an altitude of 5,000 kilometers right above the radiation belt. Kirk, finish the details on that away team. I want to have it ready to leave as soon as we reach orbit."
Tag: T'Brel and Kirk
Everyone then turned back to their consoles and began carrying out their orders. J'Leera watched on the viewscreen as they neared the planet. Suddenly a jolt hit the ship. She felt a strong shudder go through the arms of her chair.
"What was that?" she yelled out, taken by surprise. Oh, no! The radiation belt! she thought to herself. "Peers, what's going on?"
"It's the radiation belt, Commander," he reported. "I don't understand what's happening. The engines are freezing up! This shouldn't be happening!"
"No, it shouldn't, but it is," J'Leera said.
"It definately is the radiation," Ensign Holman reported. It's reacting somehow to the engines. I can't stop it."
A stronger jolt then hit and J'Leera looked over to see Kirk on the floor. "Commander are you alright?"
Tag: Kirk
All around the bridge people were hurrying about trying to stablize the ship, but no matter what system they adjusted or how much power they diverted nothing seemed to get the engines back.
"Engineering! Report!"
Tag: Engineering
"Thirteen, get down to Engineering and see what you can do. Even if you can buy us a few more minutes, that'd be great," she said.
Tag: Thirteen
Even though the engineering crew was able to get a little power out of the core, it just wasn't enough for what they needed. People were beginning to worry now and J'Leera knew that she had to keep a straight face so that they would not see how worried she was herself. She could not understand what was happening. They were still far from the radiation belt, so why was it draining power from their engines?
J'Leera's assistance, Holman spoke up again. "Our orbit is decaying, Commander! If we don't increase our velocity, we're going to fall into the planet's gravity well."
"I'm well aware of that. Peers is there anything you can do?"
Tag: T'Brel
"We're going down then," J'Leera realized in horror. Without power to the engines, they simply could not keep up enough speed to maintain any sort of orbit. We'd better prepare for a landing then... She turned to T'Brel. "Commander Peers, I'm need you to land the ship. Now, were going to crash whether we like it or not and I'd prefer that you find us a nice soft place to land." She remembered something and called down to the infirmary. "Prepare for wounded, doctor!"

"Kirk, finish the details on that away team. I want to have it ready to leave as soon as we reach orbit." J'Leera ordered.
Kirk nodded silently and went back to work at his console. He was sending out an all points bulletin to every department head to assign memebers to the away team. Along with members, a supply list was also sent out. His instructions were for everything to be arranged in shuttle bay 1.
Suddenly Kirk felt a small jolt rock the ship. Looking up he noticed everybody else had noticed the same jolt.
"What was that?" J'Leera yelled out, "Peers, what's going on?"
"It's the radiation belt, Commander," he reported. "I don't understand what's happening. The engines are freezing up! This shouldn't be happening!"
"No, it shouldn't, but it is," J'Leera said.
"I am putting all available power into the thrusters." Kirk reported. Another jolt knocked loose Kirk's grip on the console, several larger jolts finally managed to send Kirk flying right over his entire station.
"It definately is the radiation," Ensign Holman reported. It's reacting somehow to the engines. I can't stop it."
"Commander are you alright?"
"I am fine." Kirk replied as he got to his feet then his eyes locked onto theMain View Screen. To Kirk's horror the planet was getting larger and there seemed to be nothing anybody could do about it.
"We're going down then," Kirk heard J'Leera say.
"This ship does not have landing struts." Kirk reminded everybody on the bridge, but it seemed everybody else was too busy worrying about their own stations to have heard this warning.

Max sat at the small desk in his quarters, the lights were dimmed and he was deep in thought. It had been days, maybe weeks since Luke had left. He had lost track of time, knowing full well he had a build up of shoreleave had hadn't bothered to keep track of things, he was in his own little world. Things had hit Max hard. The day after Lex had taken Luke's place Max had received a communique from Mars, his Mother had been taken seriously ill, something that no one could seem to explain, and within the week she had died. The funeral had been planned beforehand apparantly, something that Max was unaware of and he had chosen not to go. He had not spoken to any of his family in years and he didn't see why this should change things. It was cold, and hard, but true. Luke was his family and then he left. Ironically, he felt truly alone on this crowded Ship. On the desk in front of him sat the box of belongings that Luke had left him and the PADD that Max had yet to read. In his mind, reading it would mean Luke had really gone. He picked the PADD up and turned it over in his hands, musing as to whether it was finally time to read it's contents. He pressed his thumb against the scanner and waited. He then typed in his security code, Luke had definately wanted only Max to see this. Once the code had been accepted text began to appear on the screen, a lot of it meant nothing to Max, it just seemed like random letters but below all of this was the message from Luke. Max took a deep breath and started to read...
In time he had finished the letter, he sighed and then closed the PADD. There were instructions for him to pass on other messages as well which he of course would do but there was something about his message that troubled Max. It hadn't seemed very final, just like Luke was going away for a bit. The more he thought about it, Luke hadn't really left... Lex was still here, well on the Scavenger, and he was after all just an older Luke...
It was just all too confusing. Things were never simple.
Max rose to his feet and stretched, stiffling a yawn. He had done next to nothing while he had taken time out, causing him to feel sleepy constantly.
"Well I'm done with moping about." He muttered to himself, before changing into a fresh Uniform.
Just as he was leaving his quarters to make his way to the Bridge the Ship rocked sending the unaware Max sliding against a wall. He ran back inside his quarters, stomach churning. He could feel something wasn't right, any half decent pilot would tell you the same. Looking out the small window in his quarters Max wanted to throw up. The Tiger Shark's orbit was decaying, he could feel the Ship fighting against the pull of gravity but with no success.
"There must be something wrong with the engines..." Max said to himself yet again. If they didn't get power to the engines then the Tiger Shark would make one large mess on the planet's surface. He ran from his quarters and into the nearest Turbolift ordering it to the Bridge. The Ship rocked slightly again and Max gripped the rail around the edges of the small lift. Arriving on the Bridge he looked around, everyone was focussing on their Stations, J'Leera had Command.
