KezTrek turned to J'Leera waiting for her to speak, but she seemed to be a little apprehensive. A young officer, one KezTrek vaguely recognised as belonging to engineering, stood beside J'Leera looking nervously at her.
"Lieutenant... Eddons isn't it?" KezTrek greeted moving closer.
"Yes ma'am," Eddons replied, trying to keep eye contact.
"What sort of shape are we in Lieutenant?" KezTrek asked, ignoring that she'd just been called ma'am.
"We're very lucky really Admiral, we came out relatively unscathed, at least, far more than I'd expect, considering we crash landed. Repairs are underway across the board. We should be able to take off without any problems, once repairs are completed on the engines and navigation systems," Eddons said.
"Good, the question is can we get past the radiation belt?" KezTrek asked.
Eddons shook her head. "I don't know, that's why I came up to speak to Commander Laika."
"Thank you. Get back to work in Engineering Lieutenant. Let me know as soon as we have engines and navigation working, I want them at full capacity if possible," KezTrek told her. "Commander Laika, find Commander Kirk and start figuring out a way for us to safely by-pass the radiation belt, I've had more than enough of this planet, I'd like to get off it, as soon as possible, without further damage. I'll be in sickbay."
"The medical teams are set up in the mess hall Admiral, sickbay took some damage," J'Leera told her, finding her voice.
"Then that's where I'll be. Where is Commander Flanigan's daughter?" KezTrek asked.
"She's with Kahlena, I thought she could keep the girl distracted, she was quite upset," J'Leera replied.
"Good idea, I'll go and see her before I go to the mess hall, contact me when you have something," KezTrek ordered, turning around and heading for the Turbolift. She could practically feel the tension ease as she left the bridge.
Letting herself fall back against the wall of the Turbolift, KezTrek forced herself to breath through waves of pain from her side. She'd need to get Franklin to look at it, but first she wanted to make sure Antoinette was okay and make sure she knew her father would be okay.
When Kahlena opened the door to her quarters, KezTrek stepped in, greeted with a quiet smile. Kahlena seemed surprised to see her, but she didn't fuss, just nodding KezTrek towards Flanigan's daughter.
"Antoinette, it's a pleasure to see you again," KezTrek told the girl.
"Thank you Admiral, you too..." Antoinette said, looking around her, eyes filled with fear and confusion.
"You're father is fine Antoinette, he was injured, but he's with the Doctor now, Doctor Franklin is an excellent physician and your father is strong, I'm sure he'll be perfectly fine," KezTrek assured the girl gently.
"Can I see him?" Antoinette asked.
"I'm going now to talk to Doctor Franklin; as soon as he says its okay I'll come get you personally to go see him, okay?" KezTrek promised.
"Thank you Admiral," Antoinette said, smiling just a little stiffly.
"Do you mind if I borrow the counsellor for a few minutes?" KezTrek asked. Antoinette shook her head and KezTrek nodded to Kahlena to follow her back outside.
"How's she been?" KezTrek asked.
"Scared. She's a brave girl though, she's slipped a few times, cried a little, but she's mostly been calm. She seems a lot older than her age," Kahlena said.
"She's been through a lot, keep an eye on her. And how are you?" KezTrek asked.

Kahlena hadn't expected to see the admiral so soon, but was glad she was okay. Admiral KezTrek spoke with Antoinette for a little bit, and she let them talk as she stayed back out of the way. Then it was her turn with the admiral, they walked out into the hall.
"And how are you?" Kahlena couldn't believe it, the admiral was asking about her well being.
"I have taken a few hits since you left, nothing too serious. I have been working out my problem with my telekinetic ablities, and I think I have figured it out. I found it was fear, but I am not sure how to face this fear, it isn't like anything I have ever been up against," she said a little nervous about continuing. Kez gave her the go ahead.
"Well, my fear is about family. I have never had one, and this is exactly what this ship is about, family. I thought I was okay when I came aboard, and my last assignments were nothing like this," she said and looked to the floor feeling a little embarrassed.

KezTrek smiled softly at Kahlena's confession. The counsellor seemed embarrassed by it, but KezTrek was frankly just amused.
"This crew has been through a lot together, especially the senior staff. You can't live life as part of a Starship crew and *not* become a family. You're new and that can be daunting, especially since there were no doubt rumours flying around Assailant before you came aboard about recent events..." KezTrek paused, thinking of Luke... Lex... semantics.
"I had heard something's, I realised the crew were probably close knit, but when I stepped onto the bridge I could really *feel* it, like it was something that just wrapped around me, smothering me," Kahlena said, embarrassed.
KezTrek actually laughed a little. "You'll get use to it. You're part of this family now... dysfunctional though we maybe."
Kahlena nodded. "I hope so. I'd like to be part of it, it... it seems like it might be nice."
"It is. Scary, irritating and occasionally a pain in the neck, but it has it's benefits. I'll be back later for Antoinette, until then, just keep her occupied," KezTrek said, giving Kahlena a brief smile and a nod, before heading back towards the Turbolift.
The mess hall was aptly named that day, although the medical teams had tried to keep things contained, there was a certain level of untidiness that just touched everything after a large emergency, like her ship crashing. That riled her greatly, but there were more important things to worry about for now, later she could be annoyed.
"Where is Doctor Franklin?" KezTrek asked one of the nurses.
"He's with Commander Flanigan Admiral, over there," the young woman answered, pointing towards an area that had been sectioned off.
KezTrek thanked her and move through the few sleeping crew members, all with various bumps and bruises, towards the area, quietly entering so as not to disturb Franklin's work, she waited until he was ready to talk to her.

James fought the sedative Franklin had administered to him with all his might, but eventually lost the battle. He was too weak and his energy was readily spent. However just after surgery he suddenly awoke and bolted upright, grabbing the poor doctor by his throat.
"Don't touch me," James growled, not recognizing the CMO. In his fever, he believed the doctor to be one of the beings that had attacked Keztrek and himself. He held the doctor's throat in a surprisingly strong grip with his right hand and held on to him tightly. "You'll die for what you've done," he continued, ignoring the doctor's strangled gasps for breath.
"You killed two innocent crewmembers, assaulted my captain and nearly killed us both." James was unaware of his surroundings, but was painfully aware of his limitations. He could not walk and his left arm had gone completely numb.
From the corner of his eyes he saw Keztrek approaching. "Admiral are you all right?" he asked, his voice suddenly filled with concern, "have you managed to contact the ship? You shouldn't be moving so much, you've suffered from our crash, not to mention his attack!" Again he managed to strengthen the grip on Franklin's throat, even though most of his energy was rapidly failing.
James' expression was grim, his eyes filled with hatred as he gazed down on the doctor. "If she dies...." he threatened. Then all of a sudden he saw two people stand beside him, a man and a child whom he knew were quite dead.
"What are you doing to me!" James cried in anguish as he gazed past Franklin, who was on the verge of passing out himself. "Tony," he whispered, "Jamey.....but....you died! You both died.." His voice died away as he gazed at his own halucination in horror, the incident which caused their deaths quite vivid in his mind.

It was complete, after hours of tinkering, cutting, and reshuffling the navigational controls were repaired. At that very moment, T'Brel wanted nothing more than to hug the ship, but sanity told him not too. He wouldn't want to spend time explaining his peculiar behavior.
"J'Leera, navigation has been repaired," T'Brel reported smiling," as soon as the engines are fixed I will be able to fly us out of here."
"Yeah, but we still have that problem," J'Leera said.
"Yes I know, I have also been thinking of the radiation belt," T'Brel said as he finally sat down in his seat," as far as I could tell he radiation belt circled the entire planet, which is a problem."
"Yeah, just a small one," a Lt. remarked. T'Brel immediately turned in his direction and gave him a look. The Lt. smile quickly disappeared, but T'Brel's just grew. He loved messing with people, but this was not the time for it.
"Well, I think for us to get out of here, we have to know what that radiation belt is made of," T'Brel said hoping anyone on the bridge would have an idea.

"Commander Flanigan! Stand down!" KezTrek ordered harshly, her growing concern not easily suppressed as Flanigan muttered to himself clearly pained.
Flanigan's eyes snapped to her, confused, but mercifully he released Franklin, who gasped for air as he stumbled away from his attacker. KezTrek noticed the sedative he had to hand but shook her head slowly.
"Commander... James... please lie down," KezTrek said softly, moving closer slowly, hoping she didn't startle the commander.
"I... Admiral..." Flanigan's eyes darted around agitated, confused and scared.
"James, lie down," KezTrek repeated. Slowly, Flanigan complied, shuffling back and although his arms and legs were laid out straight, his body practically screamed with the urge to curl in on itself, protectively.
"Doctor..." KezTrek put her hand out taking the hypospray.
"James... relax, just relax," she murmured carefully, keeping her eyes on his until she injected the hypo into his arm and he slipped peacefully into unconsciousness.
"Doctor are you alright?" KezTrek asked, just as her commbadge chirped.
"Admiral, repairs on navigation are complete, we're waiting on confirmation from Engineering on the status of the Warp Core," J'Leera reported.
"Do we have a way to get past the radiation belt?" KezTrek asked.
"We're working on that now Admiral," J'Leera said.
"Work quickly Commander," KezTrek said cutting off the comm. Channel.
"Doctor?" KezTrek returned her attention to her CMO, who was still rubbing his throat carefully.

"Sir I'm getting something," Alex said eying her tricorder. "What is it cadet?" "It appears to be ensign Jonesy sir, only a kilometer away." Thirteen pondered. "We have to go after them sir," Mick said, "we can't leave them." Thirteen nodded. "Keep your eyes open, we cannot know what we will encounter." Thirteen took Alex's tricorder, and followed its indicator in the direction of his missing security officer.
As they were three minutes underway Thirteen suddenly stopped dead. "Sir?" Alex asked him as she gave Thirteen a questioning look. Thirteen raised his hand to silence her. "Listen." A soft wind swept over the plain, carrying various sounds. "Is that... music?" Mick asked. "It does appear to be sounds following a certain rhythmic scheme," Thirteen agreed. "Would Mark and Jonesy be there?" Alex asked. Thirteen looked at the readings on the tricorder. "Ensign Jonesy appears to be in that direction." Thy moved on.
***
Jonesy's eyelids felt like bricks as he tried to force them open. He felt less than uncomfortable. The officer tried to move his limbs, but was unable to do so as his body appeared to be tied to a large pole. As Jonesy finally managed to open his eyes he look around. A nauseous rose in his stomach as he saw the world spinning in front of his eyes. The pain in his head was devastating. It felt as if a herd of elephants were playing soccer with boulders in his head. He looked to his side, and saw Mark's body hanging limp from a same sort of pole Jonesy was tied to.
***
"Get down," Thirteen whispered. Mick and Alex followed their commanding officer, and joined him on the ground. They had arrived near the mountain chain, and looked down at what appeared to be some kind of party. Several fires had been set aloft and were casting their light at the mountain. With wood and several materials Thirteen couldn't place from this distance, the cavemen had constructed an, at first sight, strange looking series of objects. Then he looked at the mountain again, and saw that the shadows the objects produced caused a magnificent piece of art on the side of the mountain.
It showed cavemen hunting animals, and constructing tools, and cooking. It was quite a bizarre and unexpected sight. "There!" Mick pointed as he took his binoculars from his eyes, "against the mountain wall!" Thirteen took the binoculars and looked. He saw two men restrained on long poles, one hanging limp, the other slightly moving. Thirteen switched on the night vision function, and could clearly make out the faces of his officers Mark and Jonesy. "We have located them," Thirteen stated. =/\= This is commander Thirteen to the Tiger Shark, two of my officers have been captured by the cavemen. It is possible that if we do not act quickly they will end up as their nourishment. We need additional personnel to salvage them. =/\=
***
"M-Mark..." Jonesy whispered to his friend who was eerily limp. "Mark wake up man. Wake up Mark... You's can't be dead mate, I know you's ain't dead... Look, they'll be commin' f'r us, d'you hear? Commander Thirteen's commin' t' get us, a'right?" Jonesy looked at the scene in front of him. Several large primates were banging large wooden sticks down on drums made of gargantuan hollow logs, as the others were strangely dancing and singing with low, growling voices. Several cavemen enjoyed themselves jumping into and out of the fires, which did not appear to set the furs they were wearing aloft. Jonesy's eyes grew wide with fear as he saw how a group of the primates suddenly came in his direction. The last thing he felt was how his pole was lifted by the cavemen, then he passed out with fear.

Kahlena watched the admiral go, and then headed back inside to see how Antoinette was doing. She noticed the puzzle was just as they had left it when the admiral came, and she looked to see where the girl had gotten to.
Antoinette was looking out the window, and Kahlena walked over and sat down on the couch.
"Did you want to play another game of charades? We could also finish the puzzle, or play some hide n' seek," she said not sure what Antoinette would want to do. Suddenly Kahlena heard some crying.
"Stay here Antoinette, I am going to see who is crying, and will be right back," she said and left using her ears to find who was making the noise. It grew louder down the left a couple of quarters down. She entered and found a young boy all alone, and looked around for someone older. ~This isn't right, someone should be here with him.~ She thought, and found that he was indeed alone.
"Hello, no, I'm not going to hurt you. I am an officer here, and there is another girl a couple of quarters down. If you come with me we will make sure to find your mommy or daddy," she said, and he seemed to trust her, but very little. He looked like he wanted to be picked up, and she did so putting him on her shoulders for the ride. He seemed very happy about being so high, and she headed back to Antoinette.
"Okay, all is well now," she said.
"Who is that?" Antoinette asked, and Kahlena smiled.
"Me, friend," he said, and Kahlena winked.
"Who said that?" She said looking left and right. "Where are you?"
"I up here," he said and Kahlena looked up.
"I don't see anyone up there," she said and he chuckled.
"Oh wait, I know," she said and grabbed him from her shoulders tickling him a little.
"He was all alone, and I just couldn't leave him there. He looks hungry, are you?" She said looking over at the girl.

The idea had come, but it wasn't from anyone that T'Brel expected. The solution had been recommended by Narte , Peer's fifth host. T'Brel hated to admit it, but Narte was even a better pilot than him.
Everyone knew that a ship needed immense power to fly, but the radiation belt seemed to suck up all of the ships energy reserves. There was no way around it, but what if they used this to there advantage. A ship's warp engine created mass amounts of power, and Federation technology allowed them to use it to make all sorts of things. They now only needed to make a distortion wave of energy that would allow them to slingshot out of the atmosphere.
All he needed now was to work the science into it.
"J'Leera I think I found a way out of here, but I'm going to need your help," T'Brel said hoping that J'Leera would have the answers.

Amhil made her retreat back to Engineering after the confrontation with the admiral. Half smiling to herself, she made mental note to never try to do anything to would annoy her CO, because she certainly seemed intimidating. When the main doors opened, Amhil strode back into Engineering and was pleased to see that the staff seemed to work more efficiently and the place seemed less like a chaotic mess. Surveying the progress that had been made, Amhil noted with a certain relief that the Navigation crew seemed to have been making some progress themselves with fixing navigation, and had now bundled up with her team of engineers, speeding up the process significantly. Only a minute after Amhil had entered, she got a report saying navigation repairs had finished. Sensors and navigation, the progress of the repairs was really coming along now.
However, the warp engines were a totally different story. Some kind of energy burst had gone through the plasma relais, which directed the power flow towards the primary deuterium tank, and had scrambled the magnetic fields thoroughly. There couldn't be any anti-matter reactions in the warp core if the fuel couldn't even reach it. The damage control team had taken up the task of replacing or repairing every fried plasma relais, which meant they almost had to replace everything which directed power towards the tank. Amhil was relieved to see that they had almost finished this task, but now she had to deal with the problem of getting the deuterium flow and the magnetic field back up again. One of the technicians leading the team was the same Lieutenant jr. who had given her the report earlier, and Amhil thought this was a good opportunity as ever to explain her plan.
"Lieutenant Hiller," Amhil began and the lieutenant looked up from his work. "We need to get the deuterium tank working again... What are your thoughts?"
The younger lieutenant hesitated for a second, before answering; "Well, we should just install, fix and place everything back one at a time," He said, clearly not looking forward to this idea.
"Yes, that's what we should normally do... " Amhil said. They were standing in front of their 'problem' and she was staring at it absentmindedly.
"It will take a lot of time, but at least it saves us the trouble of replacing anything." The lieutenant added, and Amhil sighed. "I've been thinking about this, we could also just purge the system, right?" She asked, looking back at the technician, while a soft smile played on her lips.
"Yes, but that's not normally recommended. You often have to replace a lot of the electronics, so the purging won't affect the normal flow, before attempting to...do such a thing..." He stopped speaking as his eyes fell on the damage control team who were just finishing their work. Amhil followed his gaze and nodded. "Oh, I see." The lieutenant jr. said, and smiled.
"Exactly."Amhil agreed as the younger Starfleet officer caught up with her train of thoughts. "We can go by the book, which cost a lot of time but saves us from having to replace anything, or we can just purge the system and start the deuterium flow immediately, which I think is the best way because we have replaced almost all of the plasma relais anyway. I think the small risk is worth taking."
After a few minutes of debating the issue, the team was ready and Amhil stood at the deuterium purge vent and made her way towards the console. The vent was good in one thing only, and that was rapidly purging the tank. Amhil tapped away, and after a few second a tiny shudder betrayed the activation of the vent. Looking over towards the read about, the assistant chief engineer saw the fluctuation of the meters drop as the deuterium was purged. The magnetic field collapsed before immediately re arising again. A minute after that a very soft steady hum betrayed that the deuterium flow towards the warp core had started again. Amhil let out a breath she had did not realize she had been holding.
"It worked!" Lieutenant Hiller announced, as the fluctuation stopped and the flow stabilized itself. Amhil smiled, and nodded approvingly towards the team of engineers. "Well, we've got our engines back!"
She stepped off the platform and quickly tapped her comm. badge. =/\="Lieutenant Eddons to Admiral Kez Trek. I'm sure you're happy to know we've managed to get the engines back online." =/\=

A few hours later, James woke up again in considerably less pain. Certainly he was still in agony, despite the sedatives given to him but it was bearable now. To his horror though, he found himself unable to sit up but after closer examination he discovered he was merely strapped down to his bed.
"Doctor?" he called, still somewhat anguished. He remembered seeing his deceased husband and child, he remembered talking to them, but he didn't remember attacking the CMO and the CO having been forced to drug him.
His gaze locked on Franklin as the doctor moved forward. He seemed a little apprehensive and a bruise in the shape of a hand adorned his throat. "What happened to you doctor?" James asked, almost fearing the answer. "Why am I tied down to my bed?"
His eyes were wide with fear and they darted around the room. "Are they gone?" he finally whispered, referring to both the wolves and the ghosts he was seeing. "What happened?" he repeated, "is Toni all right? Can I see her?"
It was quite obvious that James was lonely and needed the company of the only relative he had left (beside his enstranged parents). He had no actual friends on board the Tiger Shark, and he'd not had a chance to make any before the shuttle crashed.

"Doctor?" KezTrek returned her attention to her CMO, who was still rubbing his throat carefully.
"I'll be fine Admiral," Franklin assured.
"Good, keep me apprised of his condition," KezTrek said, preparing to leave sickbay.
"Admiral, I could be wrong, but that wound on your side looks painful," Frankly stopped her in her tracks.
KezTrek looked at the blood stained bandages. "I'd forgotten about it actually, but I suppose it should be cleaned up," KezTrek said agreeably, following Franklin's instructions to let one of the nurses sort her out.
"Thank you," she offered when the nurse told her she could go.
=/\="Lieutenant Eddons to Admiral Kez Trek. I'm sure you're happy to know we've managed to get the engines back online." =/\=
"Thank you Lieutenant, please report to the bridge," KezTrek replied, heading there herself.
*-Bridge-*
"Admiral, we think we have a way of the planet," J'Leera reported as soon as KezTrek entered the bridge.
"I'm going to assume by your expression it carries a certain level of danger?" KezTrek asked.
"Well, yes. It was T'Brel's idea actually, but I think it' our best option," J'Leera said, just as Lieutenant Eddons arrived on the bridge.
"Okay, then we'll do it. Take heart T'Brel, if you're wrong, we'll probably all die a fiery death before you have time to regret it," KezTrek gave a small grin.
"Strangely Admiral, that does not comfort me," T'Brel responded.
"Get to work. And do a head count. Call back anyone we have thats still out there." KezTrek ordered letting her crew get to work, sometimes she wanted to dive right in there with them, but they didn't need her in their way.
She was considering poking her nose in unnecessarily anyway, just to do something, when Franklin distracted her. "Doctor Franklin to Admiral KezTrek, Commander Flanigan is awake Admiral."
"Understood, is he well enough for visitors?" KezTrek asked.
"A short visit Admiral," Franklin replied.
"Of course, I'll be there shortly," KezTrek told him, telling J'Leera where she was going and heading to retrieve Antoinette.

"Lieutenant Eddons, I will be needing your expertise," T'Brel said as soon as Admiral KezTrek released them to go do there work. " It will require precise calculations and it will involve your warp core."
T'Brel barely knew the chief engineer, but of what he had heard she was a very good one. Then again, to his knowledge all chief engineers were good. T'Brel just hoped that there's was better than the others.

"Commander, you'd better have a look at this!" Mick said. Thirteen took Mick's binoculars and looked at the scene down at the mountain wall. He saw how his two security officers were dragged toward the two largest central fires of the festivities. "We cannot wait for reinforcements, we must act now," Thirteen said as he got up from the ground, hoisting his phaser rifle from his shoulder, "Mick, Alex, follow me!"
As the cavemen were too busy to notice anything beyond their dinner, Thirteen didn't care to run from cover to cover. He crouched down behind a group of bushes close to one of the outer fires. Alex and Mick sat down beside him. "There's too many of them sir," Alex said, trying to hide her fear from her superior officer. "I won't sit here and look at how our colleagues are going to be devoured by some hairy men," Mick said. "We have the advantage of our ranged weapons," Thirteen said. "But sir, don't they have spears?" "None that surpass the reach of our rifles. We will open fire at the native primates from a distance, and drive them away," Thirteen said.
"You want to shoot them all sir?" "Set your rifles to stunned, and try to avoid hitting the natives and Mark and Jonesy." The drums stopped, and they could hear how one of the primates was growling at the rest in a deep, rumbling voice. He was growled back at as by a choir. Then it was silent for a minute, followed by an eruption of cheers. "Now!" Thirteen ordered. The three security officers took distance from the fires by climbing back up the hill and started randomly shooting at the primates that were now dancing around the two center fires. Two poles rose from the fires, tied to them the wriggling bodies of Mark and Jonesy.
Panic broke out, but after a few growled commands from their apparent leader the troop became organized again. "It's not working sir," Alex said, panic now clearly sounding in her voice. "Aim for the primates!" Thirteen said, as he engaged in sniping down their opponents. "Why aren't they running!" Mick said as he kept on pulling the trigger of his phaser rifle. "They do not seem to respond to our weapons. Set your rifles to kill." "But s-" "That is an order cadet," Thirteen said coldly as he changed the configuration of his rifle again.
He aimed and pulled the trigger. The phaser beam shot in the direction of the fires. Upon impact it shattered the pole it hit. Thirteen fired again, and the other pole splintered as well. The poles carrying Mark and Jonesy toppled and crashed down to earth, pulling the bodies of the attached officers away from above the immense heat of the fire. Thirteen looked careful through the crowd of angry primates that had assembled weapons and were now advancing in their direction. The first set of spears rained down a hundred meters from the feet of Thirteen, Mick and Alex.
Thirteen pulled the trigger once more. The troop of primates stopped dead in their tracks, as all of them turned to look at their leader. The biggest and hairiest of the natives crashed down into the soil. Panic rose amongst the primates as the scattered and ran back toward their mountain in panic. Thirteen and the others hustled downward to check on their fried comrades. They were in a very bad shape, and covered in burned skin. A shuttle came flying in, and both armed and medical officers came out. =/\= Thirteen to the Tiger Shark, we have recovered ensigns Mark and Jonesy. They are in a critical condition, prepare for emergency medical treatment. Cadet Alex, lieutenant Mick and myself are unscathed. We will return to the Tiger Shark with the shuttle, Thirteen out.

OFF: Franklin it might be a good idea if you actually did post something instead of signing on and off? (as either account you have)
ON:
James had spent several minutes in his daughter's company, before the nurse gently led her away and told James that he needed his rest. "You'll be able to visit your daddy later again honey," she assured the stricken teenager, "he's really very safe here in sickbay and doctor Franklin is doing everything he can to heal your daddy."
~like hell he is~ James thought, allowing Toni to give him a final hug before leaving. "I don't need more rest," he argued with the nurse, "I've been cooped up in here for two days now. I want to go for a walk."
The nurse regarded her patient with mild bemusement. "Get up then," she admonished him, watching him intently.
With effort, James got himself into a standing up position but when he released the bed to take his first step he cried out and crashed to the deck. "Told you," the nurse chided him as she helped him to his feet. "We couldn't use the bone regenerator with you being fevered so we plastered the leg. Now if you're a really good first officer I'll give you this cane in four hours and you and I will go for a walk together."
James didn't like the thought of spending another four hours in sickbay but nodded at his nurse. The nurse set the cane beside the bed and walked off to attend to other patients. Almost greedily, James snatched the cane and with it he could slowly (and painfully) work his way out of sickbay.
Gradually, he walked faster though the strain was evident on his face. All his muscles were cramping up against the effort and when he finally reached the bridge, and his seat, he was exhausted and some wounds had started bleeding again. However James wouldn't hear of returning to sickbay. "What is our status?" he panted, as he sat down in the first officer's seat.

"The Tigershark is in better shape than you are," KezTrek replied, raising her eyebrow in wry amusement.
"I'm..."
"Not fine, not even nearly fine. You can stay here while we attempt to get ourselves out of the atmosphere, but then you will return to either sickbay or your quarters," KezTrek interrupted before Flanigan could protest.
Flanigan made a vaguely irritated noise, but nodded. "We're going to lift off? Can we? Do we know what caused us to crash?"
"Yes. To all off the above. I have a very inventive crew, they've spent the last two days making this ship as intact as it's going to get for the time being and preparing for this. In fact, I'm just waiting for a final confirmation..." KezTrek turned to J'Leera and Jonathan, who were bowed over the science console.
"We're ready... I think. As ready as we're going to be anyway," J'Leera said, looking at the console again as if to double check everything.
"All hands, this is the Captain. We are about to attempt taking off. There may be some turbulence," KezTrek announced over the ships comm, nodding to T'Brel.
The ship shifted uncomfortably, shaking a little, but it took of without too much trouble. "We're approaching the radiation belt..." T'Brel announced.
"Activate the deflector dish," KezTrek ordered, incredibly impressed with the ideas her crew had come up with between themselves. It was an impressive, if somewhat questionable plan. It might even just work.
"Entering radiation belt in 5...4...3" T'Brel counted off. The ship jittered angrily, KezTrek thought she could almost hear it hissing in irritation at being forced to do this, but she held steady.
"We're clear... it worked!" T'Brel announced like he was actually surprised.
"Set course for Assailant. I want a complete status report from all departments in three hours. "J'Leera you have the bridge. Commander Flanigan, I'll escort you to..." KezTrek let the last trail off as a question.
"My quarters," Flanigan replied, standing up slowly with obvious with difficulty.
*Okay boys and girls lets go home!*

Once Antoinette was gone, Kahlena took Derek with her to her quarters. She didn't want to leave the young boy alone, and didn't think it wise to remain in the commander's quarters. She also knew her office was not a good place to be travelling to. ~That's how I got hurt in the first place. I should really feed this young man.~ She thought once she was in her quarters.
Derek seemed happy enough not to be alone. She replicated him some pb and j, although she wasn't sure what it was, but he had requested it. It was something with bread, but she wasn't one to explore things like this. She had tasted peanut butter once, and noticed it was on the sandwich after he was done eating, as it was all over his face. She smiled and went for a wash cloth.
Derek squirmed as she cleaned him off, then he went off to play with the blocks she had replicated for him. She watched him as he played, and wondered if this is what a family was like.

The surgery on Flanigan went well, the infection could be treated efficiently, and the fever lowered to less than life-threatening proportions. But when he, gently, brought the Commander back to the realm of the conscious, something most unexpected happened. The patient sat up almost instantaneously, and Franklin felt a hand squishing his throat with surprising strength. The messhall bursted into a flurry of activity with nurses looking for sedatives and calling security. Franklin tried to speak, but could hardly breath, let alone utter words. He must be delirious of fever, Franklin thought, swaying his arms around in an attempt to free him from Flanigan's grip. Franklin's vision went blurry, as he was starting to pass out due to a lack of oxygen. A silhouette appeared. Franklin could not entirely make out who it was, but he guessed, as well as he was able to, it was the Admiral. Meanwhile, something was pushed into his hand, but he couldn't hold on to it very well. The reserves in his lungs were starting to be dangerously depleted, while looking up into Flanigan's eyes. The ringing in Franklin's ear became louder and louder, as he was starting to lose his very last bit of consciousness. He heard a voice in the distance, but couldn't understand what it was saying. As suddenly as he had gripped his throat, Flanigan removed himself from Franklin. Just as sudden, all sensations returned to Franklin, who took his first breath after this ordeal, like it was his very first breath in his life. His body filled up with energy, and Franklin quickly reached a state of full alertness. He couldn't enjoy it for long though, as it was being followed by an irritated sensation in his throat and lungs, pared with a nasty case of coughing. Meanwhile, KezTrek was trying to ease the commander back down on his stretcher. A quick succession of events followed, as KezTrek succeeded in getting the commander back into his unconscious state, and coordinated her business with the bridge. Eventually, she approached him. "I'll be allright," Franklin said, his voice rather hoarse. "However, I will be putting security restraints on him," he added, pointing towards the now peacefully asleep Flanigan. The conversation was brief, until Franklin noted the Admiral's injury. Knowing the average commanding officer did not like to spend much time in medical care, Franklin arranged for a nurse to quickly patch up the Admiral (meanwhile noting that he'd look at it later), leaving the doctor to finish up his own business, as well as able to tend to his now soar throat. Several hours later, commander Flanigan woke up again, now seeming slightly more like himself (as far as Franklin knew what the commander was actually like, that is). Franklin tried his best to retain his exterior of calmness, as he approached Flanigan. While it was irrational to think the commander would attack again, being somewhat more sound of mind this time, Franklin couldn't help but feel slightly anxious as he answered Flanigan. "Right after your surgery, which went well, you attacked me. It was most likely a in delirious state, induced by your fever, that my throat was handled somewhat... harshly by your hand." "They are very much gone, commander, I can assure you that. You are safely aboard the Tiger Shark, soon to be in good health." Franklin paused, while Flanigan asked about Antoinette. "Your daughter is allright as well. I will, as an exception, allow a brief visit." All went as planned, with Antoinette visiting her father for a period of time, as Franklin turned his attention to his other patients, and the much-feared but necessary and almighty paperwork. Noticing, a while later, that Flanigan was missing, Franklin enquired as to what happened. Nurse Mahony responded that she let him go. The otherwise so calm physician was just about to explode, as the comm-signal sounded throughout the messhall. =/\= Medical team 1 alpha to Doctor Franklin, we have two security officers coming in, in need of very urgent medical treatment. "Acknowledged, the messhall is ready to recieve them." Franklin responded, as he closed the channel. Walking away to prepare the arrival of these two injured, he looked at the nurse in a way which could kill, if looks could do that, a small orca. "We will be discussing this, ensign," deliberately observing both the nurse's pips. <Tag Thirteen, in the disguise of Jonesy and Mark >

James allowed his commanding officer to escort him to his quarters, though visibly reluctantly. He felt he already spent too much time in sickbay, and while he did realise he wasn't quite healed yet, let alone cleared for duty, he didn't want to be in sickbay. Yet...he also didn't want to be alone.
"Daddy!" Antoinette screamed and flew at her father as he and Keztrek entered his quarters, "daddy are you all right?"
Lovingly, James gazed down at his daughter. "I will be," he promised, "now that I'm home I will be." He gazed up at keztrek. "Please stay a little while," he almost begged her, motioning towards one of the comfortable sofa's. "Toni, be a good girl and get us some tea?"
Toni nodded and darted off, her spirits lifted upon seeing her father alive and healing.
Stiffly, James sat down on one of the sofa's. "I'm in need of a friend," he confessed to Keztrek, "what happened in sickbay has happened before. I don't have many friends and when under extreme stress I keep seeing them. As though they're haunting me." His eyes darted towards his daughter, who came carrying a tray with mugs, sugar, milk and a large pot of tea. Then she excused herself and withdrew to the large table and continued her drawings.
"They died a violent death," he continued, "and I wasn't there to save them. This ordreal down on the planet almost had us die a violent death." He gave Keztrek a weak smile. "I am glad we didn't," he confessed, "sometimes, I wish I were as tough as a Vulcan...deny certain emotions. It would make my life somewhat easier."
He paused as he poured the tea into both mugs, then deposited a generous amount of milk and sugar in his own mug. "I suppose you're going to suggest I talk to the counselor?" he guessed, "Toni told me she's actually quite nice, and has stopped letting people float. Bit on the insecure side but perhaps that's just inexperience.....or a result of bad experiences." He looked down at his mug. "I believe, being a counselor myself, Kahlena will do rather well with your crew eventually. But like her, I don't feel I belong here...I'm feel I'm an intruder."

KezTrek wasn't surprised by Flanigan's confessions. She'd seen too much, too many people in similar situations not to recognise some of the factors in why these things happened, she also wasn't surprised when he said he felt like he didn't belong here, like an intruder. He felt it, because it was true.
"The Tigershark isn't the place for you," KezTrek agreed. "I like you James, despite the rocky start we had... and I'm sure someday you might make an excellent First Officer... for some other Captain." KezTrek paused, sipping her drink.
"When I first came on board the Tigershark, I felt like I was intruding... this crew knew each other and they didn't know me... but it didn't take long at all for this place to become home, these people like family. You're a good friend of the family, but you're not now, or ever likely to be 'family'." KezTrek said, hoping Flanigan understood she was not being vindictive or intentionally hurtful, but honest.
"I think I understand that, I'll request a transfer as soon as we dock at Assailant," Flanigan said quietly.
"Admiral Magellan will be thrilled... damaged ship and I've already scared of my second XO in as many weeks... well at least he can't ever say things are boring with me around." KezTrek said with a slight smile.
Flanigan returned it, though a little tightly.
"Time for you to rest commander..." KezTrek said standing. "And you're right, I would suggest you talk to a counsellor and I have every confidence Kahlena will fit in here just fine... although I will suggest you wait and speak to a counsellor on Assailant, floating around and crashing onto the floor are perhaps not the best things for you to be doing under the circumstances," KezTrek finished with wry amusement. What she said was true, Kahlena would fit in here; learn to adapt to this... strange... crew, she just needed time.
Now, if she were very lucky, she'd have time to read over all the incoming reports and formulate a vaguely 'not my fault' sounding reason for Admiral Magellan as to why her ship needed *more* repairs and why her first officer was leaving.

The cold dark expanse that was space could not temper T'Brel's current mood. With the help of his crewmember he devised a way to exit the planet's atmosphere and the radiation belt's draining characteristics. For a minute second, T'Brel thought that the Tigershark would not make it. Luckily for them the Akira class ship was a lot studier than she looked.
Even before he could sigh, Admiral Keztrek had ordered them to Assailant, which he was more than glad to do. The current condition of the Tigershark meant that it would take a bit longer to reach their destination. This only meant that they would be having more time to perform some repairs.
Hours later
Environmental controls were not working as good as usual, so the bridge was unusually hot. T'Brel's face was flushed and had a hint of green tint. His friends had always made fun of him for turning a shade a green when he played with them or worked out with them. Vulcan's usually don't sweat, but T'Brel was not the usual Vulcan. Now that he was older his spots became darker which took the attention off his green appearance.
"Commander I will not tell you again, you need to go get some rest," J'Leera said for the fourteen time. T'Brel usually wouldn't dismiss his friend, but he wanted to get all the repairs completed. "T'Brel don't make me kick you out."
"That would be very illogical," T'Brel said in his Vulcan manner. His response had the desired effect which was a chorus of laughter.
"True, but I've always liked illogical situations," J'Leera said," now get out of the bridge!" T'Brel gave J'Leera and everyone else a look of mock anger, but he did leave.
"Computer gymnasium and pool facilities," T'Brel said needing work out and relaxing a bit in the pool.

James sighed in misery. "Yes I suppose things do remain interesting with you around," he said, "you are a most...intriguing individual. I hope you won't be a stranger whenever you get back to Assaillant in the future." He nodded towards Antoinette. "She looks up to you, you know...and she seems to like Kahlena."
He sipped his tea in quiet and only spoke up when he'd finished his drink. "You know, I'd really like to spend the last days before we dock on the bridge. And I don't want to stay in my quarters. Didn't this ship have a pool, then perhaps I can take Toni for a swim." He raised an eyebrow in mock indignation. "After all isn't swimming good for you when you've been injured? I'm certain Doctor Franklin will remove this plaster and use the bone regenerator so that I can go swimming..."
When Keztrek didn't reply, he got up from the couch and walked to the door. "I'm going to ask him right now," he said, "and ah....apologize to him I guess?" Leaving his CO behind, James hobbled down to sickbay once again reasonably out of breath. "Doc, got a minute for me?" he called as he stumbled into the office.
"First I'd like to apologize to you," he began, looking extremely uncomfortable, "I ah....I didn't know it was you, i thought you were one of those creatures. I'm sorry." He looked profoundly embarassed as he spoke, but then he pointed at his plastered leg. "I'd like to take Toni for a swim, could you fix this so that I can?"

The events that had passed ran through Thirteen's mind as he tried to give them a place in his memory banks. "Are you alright commander?" Alex asked. Thirteen looked up at the cadet. "I am processing recent events." She nodded. "Me too." Thirteen looked to his side as he heard a strange, deep, whirring sound, and discovered that is was Mick, fast asleep. "It was a tiring exercise," Thirteen said.
He looked at his two officers that lay, still unconscious, on biobeds in the shuttle. "Docking with the Tiger Shark," the pilot informed. A medical team stood ready in the shuttle bay and took care of Mark and Jonesy the second the shuttle opened its door. "You should get yourself cleaned, and rest," Thirteen told Alex, "I will pass by commander Laika, and visit ensign Jonesy and Mark in sickbay." "Perhaps you should rest too commander," Alex said looking at her superior officer. "I will cadet, afterward."
Thirteen stood up and exited the shuttle bay. "Bridge," he spoked as he entered the turbolift. It is strange, Thirteen processed, I do feel some form of... could it be called 'attachment'? toward my officers, and the rest of this crew. Perhaps this is the feeling of having a family, he contemplated. It remained at a contemplation as the doors opened to reveal the bridge, and Thirteen got out.
***
"Mick, wake up," Alex whispered in his ear. Mick's eyes fluttered open. "Huh... what.... where... am I?" He yawned and stretched his body. "We're back on the Tiger Shark you sleepy, you fell asleep the minute you sat down in the shuttle." Mick gave Alex a wondered look. "Did I? I'm dying for a sonic shower, and some food. Care to meet up for some dinner?" "Sure," Alex said as a shimmer crossed her eyes, "pick me up in an hour." She left the shuttle bay. Mick sat and watched his colleague leave before he did the same.
***
"Greetings commander," Thirteen said approaching J'Leera. "Good to see you in one piece mister Thirteen," she said, "we're about to leave this planet, we have devised something that should get us through the radiation belt." "I will be in the messhall," Thirteen informed. J'Leera nodded and the chief security headed off.
***
An agonizing pain shot through Mark's entire body as he tried to open his eyes. He heard voices talking around and above him. There were people, people running, grabbing things. Was he still in the grasp of the cavemen? Were they going to roast him? Series of thoughts and pictures raced past. Jonesy, how's Jonesy? he wondered. He tried to ask it out loud, but couldn't get his lips to move. Mark lost consciousness again.
***
Thirteen eyed the chaos in the messhall as he entered. He could immediately pick out the doctor working in a corner, bent over an improvised biobed. "Doctor, what is their condition." "Critical mister Thirteen," the doctor said without looking up from his work. "Will I get my officers back?" Thirteen asked. At the same time he experienced a strange emotion that passed through him, but he cast it aside and focused on the doctor again.

Kahlena had been babysitting for the last couple of hours, and she wondered where Derek's parents had disappeared to. She noticed he rubbed his eyes, and she let him play, not wanting him to realize he was going to take a nap.
A little later, she tucked him into her bed with pillows on both sides. She didn't know why this was necessary, but she did as she read. Kahlena sat down at the desk in her quarters, and looked up Derek to see who his parents were. She noticed one was in engineering and the other was a doctor. She realized it might be awhile before one of them showed up to claim the little guy.
About an hour later, in strode a young lady and some woman. The color on the uniform told the counsellor all she needed to know.
Kahlena smiled as she stood up from the couch putting her padd down. She motioned for silence and toward the bed. The woman looked and smiled, then turned her attention back to Kahlena. She walked over to the counsellor.
"Thank you so much for taking care of my son. I don't know what I would have done if he was hurt or killed in all of this. My daughter was suppose to be watching him, but I am still not sure what happened that she wasn't with him," she said.
"MUMMY!" Derek cried and ran to his mother, almost falling off the bed. He hopped down, and hugged his mother's shins. She picked him up and hugged him. Suddenly he became sad.
"What's wrong, Derek?" His mom asked as a tear formed.
"I no get play with Kal," he said, and Kahlena realized he meant her.
"Yes you will, I will be around, and often. We will get to play together again, I promise," she said, and he smiled again. They said their good-bye, and Kahlena mentioned being around to watch Derek when needed. His mother seemed appreciative of the offer, and Derek grew excited. She watched him go, and then got back to what she was reading.
