Thirteen eyed the flashing light T'Brel pointed out. It appeared to been some sort of gemstone, embedded in the stone wall. It was surrounded by uninterpretable drawings, and words in the language they'd come across earlier. The opening was triangular, and the narrow entrance they'd just appeared from formed one of the three corners. The room looked like it was a dead end.
Thirteen grabbed a hold of his tricorder, and scanned the red button. "It consists of some sort of ectoplasm. I would almost conclude that this button holds a very small entity," Thirteen said. They examined the other walls. "This can't be it, right?" Amhil said. "Highly unlikely," Thirteen responded. "We could try to press that red thing and see what happens," Kirk said. "I am not sure that is without risk, commander," said Thirteen. "Well, maybe not, but it's all we've got right now," came T'Brel.
"That is true." Thirteen approached the gemstone. He eyed his companions, and then touched the gem. Nothing happened. He gave it another try, but without any result. "If only we could figure out a way to interpret those inscriptions," Amhil sighed. "Our tricorders are unable to translate them, but perhaps we can come up with a solution ourselves," Thirteen said. "But how?" Kirk asked, "it's unlike anything we've ever come across!" "At first sight, yes, but we need to see if we are capable of finding a pattern in the writings, same letters for instance, and then try to reason what it could mean." "Alright," T'Brel said, "let's get to it."

Staring up at the walls, trying to find at least one familiar marking in the strange language that had been scribbled on the stones, Amhil was is awe of the place. She had not thought the ruins would be in such good condition, and with a little luck a whole new language would soon come to the attention of Starfleet.
Strolling around, though strolling was hard to do with those uncomfortable thermo suits on, they passed the magnificent stone gate and ventured more deeply inside the ruins. Looking around, Amhil noticed more and more inscription, and also that different, smaller tunnels that separated themselves from the main tunnel and lead into the darkness beyond. When Amhil shone her flash light down one of them she saw it just stopped and lead into a stone cave wall a few meters further. They seemed to have been a waste of labour, seeing as they weren't used for anything.
The team stayed inside the main tunnel and followed it until the ceiling lowered more and more and the walls seemed to reach out for each other. Finally, when Amhil began to feel a little uncomfortable with the walls closing in on them, they stood before an opening, which was filled with artefacts and, most noticeably, a big, red, button-like gemstone embedded in the wall.
“What is that?” T'Brel asked, and everyone's attention was on the gem. Thirteen scanned it and didn't seem impressed with the results, but, being a ex-Borg, he didn't seem to be particularly impressed with anything at all. “It consists of some sort of ectoplasm. I would almost conclude that this button holds a very small entity.” He reported his findings, and Amhil eyed the button with more curiosity than before. The senior staff quickly made a sweep of the other walls, but they didn't find anything particularly interesting, and more importantly, didn't find another exit.
“This can't be it, right?” Amhil asked, wondering if this was all there was to the ruins. “Highly unlikely.” Thirteen answered, and they returned their attention to the weird flashing gem.
“We could try to push that red thing and see what happens?” Kirk suggested, though he didn't sound entirely sure if this was a good idea. Thirteen sounded doubtful, too; “I am not sure that is without risk, commander.” Amhil tented to agree. Who knew what would happen?
“Well, maybe not, but it's all we've got right now.” T'Brel said, and this seemed to convince Thirteen to try it out. He approached the button with a slight carefulness and then proceeded to press it softly. When nothing happened, he tried again, but the room stayed silent and the button just continued giving off the pulsating red light without as much as a pause. Amhil couldn't deny she felt a little disappointed, the gem looked so...promising. She sighed, and looked back at the drawings and markings beside the gem.
“If only we could figure out a way to interpret these inscriptions.” She said, the disappointment evident in her voice. “Perhaps we can come up with a solution ourselves.” Thirteen suggested, and after some scepticism from Kirk, which Thirteen waved off, they got to work.
Crouching down next to wall in which the gem was embedded, Amhil wiped some of the dust off the drawings and markings with her gloved hand. The drawings weren't really clear, and reminded her more of hieroglyphs than normal drawings, while the inscriptions next to them seemed unusually intricate. She tried comparing two pieces of wall with each other to find some similar markings, but came up with very little. After a while she had only find two markings that seemed to be the same, but couldn't make anything of it. Looking over to the other, she tried to see if they had made some progress.

Things were going slow for the senior staff, and it seemed that even with the diverse backgrounds that made up the away team nobody was close to figuring out these images. What Kirk found frustrating as well as fascinating was that with both he and Thirteen had not recognized any of these markings from the vast language database that was stored within them. It appears the Borg never came across this species, Kirk thought to himself as the continued to scan the area with his tricorder.
Kirk mulled around for a few moments scanning here and there trying hard to crack the mysterious code that stood mocking them. Then it hit him, the tricorders were limited in this field and the main computer back on the Tiger Shark would be a much greater researching tool.
"Sir, I suggest we take high resolution scans of these images and that red button then run them through the ships main computer to see if we can get a match in it's database." Kirk suggested.

"As good an idea as that is, it poses us with the problem that it is not possible to communicate to above ground," Thirteen said to Kirk, "our communication devices cannot penetrate the thick layers of rock above us." "What if we shoot it?" Amhil asked. Thirteen eyed his engineering officer. "I suppose that by 'it', you mean the gemstone?" Amhil nodded. "I'd reckon that's pretty dangerous," Kirk butted in, "if it really contains an entity who knows what we'll unleash?"
Thirteen scanned the structural integrity of the gemstone, and configured his phaser rifle. "I have configured my phaser rifle in such a way that it will not be capable of destroying the gem." "Then what's the use of shooting it?" T'Brel asked. "I do not exactly know," Thirteen answered. He pointed the tip of his rifle at the gem, and pulled the trigger. The rock around them trembled, but only very briefly.
"Look!" Amhil pointed out. In the largest wall of the triangular room, a crack had appeared. It was tiny, but clearly present where it had not been before. Thirteen pulled the trigger again. Another tremble raged through the rocks, and the crack widened. Now Thirteen pulled the trigger once more, but now held it down, keeping a constant beam of phaser fire entering the gemstone.
Slowly but surely the wall sank deeper and deeper into the ground, until eventually the tremors stopped. Thirteen released the trigger, and eyed the opening. "A very sophisticated way to lock a door," he concluded, "I wonder what was used the thousands of years ago, when this must have been built, to open this door."
Everyone looked through the opening the had emerged. Beyond it lay darkness, so far that their lights were unable to reach both the ceiling and the other end of the room they faced. "Let us enter," Thirteen said as he took the first step forward. When all the senior officers had entered the room, they just stood and stared into the vast darkness in front of them for a few moments.
"Can you hear that?" Kirk whispered. A soft humming sound had started. Dots of light began to appear in the darkness above and around them. They became brighter the longer Thirteen looked at them, and slowly but surely it became possible to see the walls, the ceiling and the pillars that held it up. "What are they?" Peers asked. Thirteen got out his tricorder. "They appear to be small entities, most like the one we have already encountered in the gem that opened the door."
They ventured forth as the light entities shone bright enough to show the officers where they could go. "Wow, it's huge!" Amhil said gazing up a pillar. Everywhere they looked were drawings and the signs of the language they had not managed to break yet. The pillars, the floor, the walls, the ceiling, all were covered in them.
Thirteen raised his hand and got the silence from his fellow officers. The humming had stopped. Not a single sound could be heard. The ceiling and the walls twinkled with the gloomy light of the entities they contained. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, a strong wind blew through whatever room or hall they were actually in, and with a loud bang, they could see how the entrance they'd struggled to open, had slammed shut behind them. They were trapped.

Kirk turned quickly as with the rest of the crew as they heard the loud rumble of the main door closing. Kirk and T'Brel made for the slow closing slab of rock but just as they reached the doorway the door had finally closed all the way. Kirk and T'Brel both waited for a second before turning around; hands on the rock door, they were both silent and they knew why. They were trapped and there was nothing they could do about it.
"Now what." Kirk heard from the ear piece in his suit.
"Looks like we find another way out." Kirk replied.
Turning around to face his fellow crewmembers Kirk took a moment to eye the scene in front of him. It was an interesting situation to be in, small balls of energy appeared to dance inside the walls. Mysterious text could be found all over each of the walls, begging to be deciphered.
Nothing was going to happen unless the senior staff began to make things happen, so Kirk pulled out his tricorder and hoped his fellow crewmates would follow his lead. Walking along one of the main walls Kirk began his scans. At first he got nothing out of the ordinary until he came closer to the orb like objects that appeared to be floating behind the walls.
"Interesting." Kirk said outloud.
"What is it?" T'Brel asked as he walked over to take a look at the readings.
"The tricorder is picking up various increases in the electromagnetic field as I pass it over these orbs." Kirk replied sounding distant as he was engaged in his scanning. Finally he tore himself away from the tricorder, "Has anybody else found anything interesting?"

The dots of light moved in a steady circular pattern above their heads, something that T'Brel found very interesting. Thirteen had reported that the dots were the same entities that he had encountered in the gem. Whatever they were, T'Brel was pretty sure that they were much more than what they seemed. He was certain that they were the answer to getting out of their predicament.
T'Brel found it particularly interesting that Jonathan was very interested in the dots as well. In fact as he surveyed the entire chamber everyone was looking at the dots with interest. They were enchanting and it was very hard for any of them to look away.
"The tricorder is picking up various increases in the electromagnetic field as I pass it over these orbs." Kirk replied sounding distant as he was engaged in his scanning. Finally he tore himself away from the tricorder, "Has anybody else found anything interesting?"
"Not really," T'Brel added," though the text obviously goes all the way up the pillars. This chamber reminds me of a rotunda, there are twelve pillars in this chamber and the middle is empty."
T'Brel would of continued speaking if it wasn't for the fact that his mind blanked out and he collapsed. Before anyone could react T'Brel got back up.
"What just happened, Commander?" Commander Thirteen just asked.
"I'm not sure sir," T'Brel responded," but I'm pretty sure that the electromagnetic field has started to affect with my neural synapse and I"m pretty sure they will start to effect yourself and Commander Kirk."

The stone slap door closed seamlessly with the surrounding rock, closing off the entrance to the triangular room the officers had come from with a loud rumble, after which the room became silent. Everyone stood, illuminated by the eerie light of the orbs still hovering soundlessly above them, staring at the rock engraved with the strange characters, all realizing that they had just gotten themselves in a bad situation that was in dire need of improvement.
After trying to open the door unsuccesfully, Kirk was the first to react and pulled out his tricorders and started scanning the surrounding room and soon began scaning the walls which seemed to have some of the lights dancing dreamingly behind them. Now that Amhil was looking more closely, all of the lights seemed to be twinkling and dancing almost in a hypnotising way and she soon felt attracted to them. She stared up with interest and the beautiful lights and felt a sudden fascination with them as she felt they were beckoning her. Suddenly, the trance was broken when Kirk reported his findings.
“The tricorder is picking up various increases in the electromagnetic field as I pass it over these orbs.” He said, and seemed obsorbed by the readings on his tricorder. “Has anybody else found anything interesting?” He asked, and Amhil felt kind of foolish just standing there staring at the orbs while she should have been trying to get them out of there.
“Not really,”T'brel answered and continued with this own observations; “Though the text obviously goes all the way up the pillars..” 'And the walls, ceiling and ground...' Amhil added in her thoughts as she began to feel a certain uneasiness with all the engravings. The text sure must have something very important to say if so much effort had gone into engraving it in the stone everywhere.
“The chamber remind of a rotunda, there are twelve pillars in this room and the middle is empty.” T'Brel continued, however, before anybody could add anything he collapsed like a rag doll when he blanked out. With a shock, Amhil stepped forward to check on him when with all the suddenness of the collapsing he regained his feet again. Everyone looked at him questionably, but Thirteen was the first to react.
“What just happened, Commander?” He asked, and T'Brel shook his head.
“I'm not sure, sir. But I think the electromagnetic field has started to affect my neural synapse, and I'm pretty sure that they will start to affect you and Commander Kirk.” T'Brel answered.
“What? In what kind of way?” Amhil asked, alarmed. “Are you all going to blank out on me?”
“I'm not sure.” T'Brel asked, seemingly affected by the ordeal but regaining his normal self.
“Sir, when does the ship expect us back? If we don't manage to get out of here....They'll notice when we don't show up at the designated time and send out a search party, right?” Amhil asked Thirteen, as she began to wonder how long exactly their oxygen supply would last.

Facing one of the far walls Kirk continued to scan the mysterious writing along with the orbs when he heard the sound of a gasp through the suit's COM system. The gasp came as a shock to him, pulling his attention away from the tricorder. When Kirk got his body turned around he saw T'Brel picking himself up off the ground.
"What just happened, Commander?" Commander Thirteen just asked.
"I'm not sure sir," T'Brel responded," but I'm pretty sure that the electromagnetic field has started to affect with my neural synapse and I"m pretty sure they will start to effect yourself and Commander Kirk."
“What? In what kind of way?” Amhil asked, alarmed. “Are you all going to blank out on me?”
“I'm not sure.” T'Brel asked, seemingly affected by the ordeal but regaining his normal self.
Kirk looked quickly at Thirteen as he realized what T'Brel was talking about, "I know how," Kirk said before turning to face Amhil, "If the electromagnetic fields start to get too strong there is a chance these orbs will start to short out the nanoprobes with in our bodies." Kirk said with his voice trailing off leaving everybody with the grim reality that the two former Borg drones now faced.
“Sir, when does the ship expect us back? If we don't manage to get out of here....They'll notice when we don't show up at the designated time and send out a search party, right?” Amhil asked Thirteen, as she began to wonder how long exactly their oxygen supply would last.
"That is correct," Kirk replied, "But there is no assurance that their scans will be able to penetrate these walls, so we need to find a way to communicate with these beings and fast. Everybody make sure to keep a close eye on their oxygen levels. Let's get to work." Kirk finished.

Now facing the threat of the electromagnetic feature of the light entities, Thirteen’s mind was racing, trying to figure out a plan how to get his crew out of here. His crew. His responsibility. That’s what they were as long as he commanded the Tiger Shark. “Miss Amhil, do you think you can improvise a counter for the effect of the entities to render mister Kirk and myself from harm?”
Thirteen eyed his tricorder. “We have three hours and twenty one minutes of oxygen left, which gives us that amount of time to find a way out of this place. The crew onboard the Tiger Shark is aware of this fact, and they will send backup when they judge it nessecary. I suggest that we split up. Mister Kirk, you and miss Eddons examine the north part of the temple, commander Peers and I will cover the south. Our inbuilt communicators should be able to stay in contact. There is no way to tell what more this temple consists of apart from this main room. Be careful, and do not get lost.”
Jonathan and Amhil went north, and Thirteen and T’Brel headed south. “I do not understand how a temple of this magnitude can have remained unnoticed for such an immense time span,” Thirteen said. T’Brel nodded. “Yeah, it’s pretty amazing.” As they ventured south they reached a wall. Embedded in the wall was a big, stone door. “Want to go in?” T’Brel asked. Thirteen nodded, and the two officers had to push hard before the door budged. The room beyond was dark. No light entities appeared as they entered, and they had to do with the lights of their suits. “Three hours and eighteen minutes of oxygen left,” T’Brel informed.
As they looked around they noticed that the room contained rows and rows of stacked coffins. “You reckon there are remains left in these things?” T’Brel asked as he approached one. They seemed to be made of thick stone, and Thirteen’s tricorder had a hard time penetrating the coffins. “My tricorder cannot determine whether these stone cases contain any organic material.” “Perhaps we should open one?” T’Brel asked. “Good idea,” Thirteen acknowledged. But first Thirteen contacted the other team. ~/\~ Commander Kirk, lieutenant Eddons, what is your status? ~/\~

There was sudden chirp from Amhil´s inbuilt communicator and a moment later Thirteen´s voice filled the air inside her suit.
=/\= “Commander Kirk, Luitenant Eddons, what is your status?” =/\=
Amhil decided to answer as Jonathan was bent over some readings he was taking with his tricorder.
=/\= “We're heading up north through a tunnel, sir, but we haven't found anything yet that could help us get out of here. What about you, Commander?” =/\= Amhil reported. Jonathan looked up and they both listened to Thirteen's description of the tombs and how they T'Brel and him were planning on opening them.
=/\= “Very well, report if you find anything unusual.” =/\= Thirteen finished, and then cut communication, leaving Amhil to wonder what Thirteen's definition of 'unusual' was, seeing that in her opinion the whole place was kind of freaky.
At first the room had widened more towards the North, but soon enough they it quickly narrowed until they had found a tunnel leading away from the main room. They had made a steady progress deeper and deeper inside the cave as they had followed a tunnel inside. However, they hadn't found anything of particular interest, yet.
“I believe the electromagnetic field is a lot less strong at the end of this tunnel, but the readings seem to be constantly fluctuating.” Jonathan announced while he turned to face Amhil. The Chief Engineer frowned at this and looked behind her, back the way they'd came from.
The tunnel had curved away from the main wall, which meant that no matter where you were inside the tunnel, you could only look a few meters behind before the rest was cut from view. However, Amhil had noticed that though the tunnel had been cast in total darkness, no matter how far away they were from the main room, behind them was always a soft glow.
“I think I know why that might be.” Amhil answered, lifting up her tricorder and seeing that it indicated a higher magnetic field just around the corner. Jonathan looked at her questionably. “I believe we're being followed.”
She didn't know why, but it seemed the soft glowing orbs or entities had silently but with great determination followed them slowly through the tunnel. It didn't seem like they wanted to get in view, either. Amhil took a step forward, back the way they came from, followed by a few more when she noticed the glow literally seemed to jump back. She soon broke out in a short run, causing Jonathan to give her a funny look, but the glow seemed to back away just as quickly. Amhil shrugged and turned back towards Jonathan.
“If those...things want to play hide and seek it's fine by me, as long as they don't get in our way.” She said, seeing them as no threat, and continued her way up North.

"Push!" T'Brel said, and he and Thirteen pushed the lid of one of the coffins with all their might. It flew off, and dust from within the coffin whirled into their faces. "Empty," T'Brel said sounding slightly disappointed.
"What is that?" Thirteen said as he suddenly turned to face the opposite of the room. "I could have sworn that I saw movement in the corner of my eye." T'Brel pointed his tricorder in Thirteen's direction. "I'm not detecting any life signs commander. However I am reading increased neural activity in your visual cortex." "It must have been an effect of the electromagnetic radiation from the entities. Let us proceed."
"Shall we try opening another one?" Thirteen nodded, and he and his colleague approached another coffin. It took them more effort to lift the lid this time, but it paid of. The could clearly see remains lying on the bottom of the coffin.

The body in the coffin was definitely a humanoid, but the tricorder couldn't register the species. The skeletal frame of the body was thicker and longer than a human male. The skull was about 34%. Still the most surprising news was the fact that the remains and the crystal balls shared common neural energy.
"How is that possible?" Commander Thirteen asked.
"I don't know sir, but these remains have been here for at least four centuries and neural energy is still present," T'Brel said practically amazed. Unbeknown to the two officers, the crystal balls that filled the cave had started to gather. It wasn't long before they circled them and the body.
"Commander I think they are attracted to the neural energy from the remains," T'Brel said," the electromagnetic field is growing quickly. I recommend that we close this coffin."

Thirteen clutched his head in his hands as he fell to his knees. A searing jolt of pain was ripping through his head. "Commander!" T'Brel exclaimed as he saw Thirteen collapse. The entities began spinning faster and faster above the coffin. "Close - close the - the coffin..." Thirteen uttered, as he felt how his brain was slowly but surely imploding.
With all the strength T'Brel could find in his muscles he managed to push the lid so that it covered the coffin again. As quickly as they had come, the entities were gone again, leaving T'Brel en Thirteen behind in the darkness, now only lit by their flashlights. "Are you okay sir?" T'Brel asked. "I think I am commander. The electromagnetic radiation from the entities must have affect my neural implants. They seem to be functioning normally again. As to what we have just found... that is major commander Peers. An unknown species. We will have to figure out some way to get more data."
~/\~ Commander Kirk, lieutenant Eddons, commander Peers and I have discovered the remains of an unknown humanoid species in one of the coffins. We will try to obtain more data, but we had an encounter with some of the entities, and they had a serious effect on my neural implants. What is your status? And lieutenant Eddons, have you devised something to counter the effects of the electromagnetic radiation? ~/\~

Amhil and Kirk were standing in front of a wall that had a mirror like surface and blocked off the tunnel's further progress deeper into the ruins. They'd discovered it a minute or so earlier, and though this could be definitely described as something unusual, they had agreed to first take some readings before reporting back to Thirteen. The wall was radiating a surprising amount of warmth when compared to the rest of their surroundings, but other than that they couldn't really find out more about it.
Jonathan's voice invaded Amhil's thoughts as she was deeply absorbed in readings from her tricorder.
“I don't think they're following us any more.” Looking up, Amhil had a blank look on her face. She had been trying to compose some theories on what this wall could be, what this place might have been used for, how to get them out of here, and how she could avoid the electromagnetic field from affecting or 'damaging' her crew mates. “Hmm?” She asked, somewhat distracted.
“I believe the entities have stopped their pursuit.” Kirk repeated, indicating to the long dark tunnel behind them. “I've been monitoring the electromagnetic fields, and it´s been getting fainter and fainter since we stopped here..” Amhil nodded in agreement, since she had noticed the absence of glow behind them.
“It seems they are retreating.” Jonathan concluded. Amhil frowned, as she considered this information.
“Retreating,? Where to?” She mused, as she stared back down the tunnel, illuminating the walls with the flash lights attached to her thermo-suit. An uneasy feeling crept up on her, but before she could say anything about any possible feelings, she was startled when the comm. link sprang into life and Thirteen's voice was audible.
=/\= “Commander Kirk, Lieutenant Eddons, Commander Peers and I have discovered the remains of an unknown humanoid species in one of the coffins. We will try to obtain more data, but we have had an encounter with some of the entities, and they had a serious effect on my neural implants.” =/\= At this, Amhil cast a worried look on Kirk, ensuring herself that the entities which had been following them had not had any effect on him.
=/\= “What is your status? And Lieutenant Eddons, have you devised something to counter the effects of the electromagnetic radiation?” =/\= Thirteen continued. Kirk was the first to react, and answered quickly.
=/\= “We have not encountered any serious problems, Commander. We were followed by some of the entities for a while, but they seem to have disappeared. It also looks like we can't continue our way; There's a....wall blocking our progress.” =/\=
=/\=”Can you--”=/\= The rest of Thirteen's sentence was cut short when there was a sound in the distance which could be described as a small implosion of some sort. A moment later it was followed by a soft tremor. For a fraction of a second, Amhil was aware of an intense heat radiating from her suit. Both their helmet lights as well as their flash lights intensified for a moment before dying with a little whine, plunging Jonathan and Amhil in darkness. Then the comm link died with a pathetic fizzle.
There was a moment of hesitation as both officers stood in the dark, before one of Amhil's flash lights turned back on. It flickered aggressively, as if fighting for energy. Kirk's and Amhil's tricorder sprang back into life, though they seemed only capable of displaying gibberish for a few moments.
“What was that?” Jonathan asked, stealing the words that had been forming on Amhil's lips. However, when she thought about all the electromagnetic activity they had been reading, the answer seemed only logical.
“That almost seemed like a massive EMP.” Amhil answered, though she had no idea why and how it could have formed. The end of her sentence was followed with a yelp as she stumbled when another tremor shook the tunnel. She regained her balance before, with such a suddenness that surprised both Kirk and Amhil, the floor seemed to crumble away beneath them.
Amhil was half aware of a scream escaping her lips when, with a loud rumble, she and Jonathan came crashing down with other debris. Moments later they hit the ground on a lower level that, unbeknownst to the two officers, had been hiding under the tunnel they'd been following earlier all this time.

Kirk strained to listen for the last of Thirteen's communication just as the floor began to tremble and shake. Kirk reached out to a nearby wall to try and brace himself from falling over in his cumbersome environmental suit.
Suddenly Kirk was overwhelmed with a sudden loss of energy, his body was almost unable to support his own weight let alone the added weight of the suit. The lights on his helmet, as well as his hand held flash lights began to glow much brighter than normal and with in a few seconds they went dark.
Kirk felt himself go down on one knee, he began to breath heavily as if he had just finished running an endurance race, his face felt hot, and sweat began to build up on his brow before he finally came crashing down onto both of his knees.
Just as suddenly as the feelings started they vanished. With a steady hand Kirk managed to bring himself back up to his feet as his tricorder sprang back to life. Slowly, his helmet lights began to flicker as they some how found life also.
“What was that?” Jonathan asked still a little out of breath.
“That almost seemed like a massive EMP.” Amhil answered.
Just as Amhil finished her sentence another sudden jolt caused the two officers to almost loose their footing again. Kirk looked down as a second jolt cracked the ground in which they were standing.
"Get movin-" Kirk yelled into the COM system just as the floor gave way.
He reached out with both his arms trying to grab onto something, anything that was solid but his hands found nothing but empty space. Kirk could hear Amhil scream as the flooring gave way under her, causing her to fall through the floor after him.
Kirk landed hard on his side, causing the wind to be knocked out of him. He gasped for air as he looked skyward at the falling rocks that were now starting to rain down on him and Amhil. Instinctively he balled his body up in the fetal position, trying to cover his helmet as best as he could from the falling rocks.
With in seconds Kirk and Amhil were covered in debris that used to be the floor they were walking on.

It was dark. Amhil groaned and then took a big gasp of air as she realized she was awake and, better yet, still alive. She didn't know if it was dark because of the absence of lighting or because she had suddenly gone blind, though she thought and hoped the first option was the more plausible.
She lay silently in the dark as the tried to process what had happened. The only sounds accompanying the darkness was her own shallow breathing and the pounding of her heart. Was she hurt? She didn't feel any pain, though her head felt like she had just woken up from a deep sleep, but her limbs felt heavy and her hands were numb. There was a weight on her chest when she tried to move, and Amhil noticed her arms were unusually difficult to raise, like in a dream. Finally, with a little effort, she managed to get one of her arms to move, and the sudden free movement was accompanied with the sound of rocks clattering down on the floor.
Amhil remembered the cave in, and came to the conclusion she had been buried under the debris, though it didn't seem as if the layer of rocks was very thick. Where was Jonathan? Was he all right?
She wriggled her other arm free and started removing other rocks from her chest. She quickly realised they were far lighter than she would have expected for their size, but this thought soon drifted away and left Amhil slightly confused. It was a exhausting task nonetheless. Finally, she sat up, freed from the debris and her breathing was short and laboured. Her hands and legs were still numb, and she realised she was shivering violently. When had it gotten so cold?
She began checking her suit, which was difficult in the dark and with numb hands. It seemed to be in an all right state, there were no cracks in her helmet as far as she could tell, and it seemed her oxygen mask was still working, seeing how she would have had trouble breathing otherwise. Her flash light seemed to have been shattered, though, and for some reason the lights in her helmet didn't want to turn on either. She also came to the conclusion that the heating system inside her thermo suit had been damaged.
The Chief Engineer got on her knees and felt a tiredness overcome her. Her thoughts were difficult to gather and there was an almost permanent slight confusion taking over. Amhil finally willed herself to search the ground with her hands, in an attempt to get her bearings. She quickly found what she supposed was one of the walls, but the large number of debris made it difficult for her to move freely. She stumbled as she tried to find anything that could help her.
After a few minutes of stumbling, shivering and falling repeatedly, Amhil finally saw something that made her heart lift. In the darkness, a few meters away, there was small, dim, glowing light. The small light flickered every few seconds, but now that Amhil had seen it, it was like a beacon in the night. She got on her feet again and hurriedly made her way towards it.
Half way there, she tripped over something that was definitely not a rock, and fell forwards. The thing she had stepped on groaned loudly, and with a sudden surge of relief, Amhil realized it had to be the missing Chief Operations Officer, or, she guessed, the acting First Officer.
Amhil hurriedly turned and reached for the blinking light, which was now within reach and found out it was a still miraculously working tricorder. She fell on her knees besides Kirk and fumbled with the tricorder, which her cold, numb hands had a difficult time to hold correctly. She held it over Jonathan to shed some, though very dim, light on everything and thanks to this she could faintly make out Kirk's figure lying on the ground. He seemed to move slightly, still groaning softly.
“Commander? ...Jon? Can you hear me?” Amhil asked, wanting to shake him gently but deciding it was better not to if it turned out he had broken anything or was otherwise hurt.

The ground shook violently, and Thirteen could see the questioning look on T'Brel's face, lit by his suit's flashlights. A roaring sound could be heard soaring in their direction, becoming louder and louder. "Look, the door!" T'Brel exclaimed. From the open door that lead back to the main hall came a light, that grew intenser every passing millisecond, along with the sound. "Hit the ground commander!" Thirteen heard himself say as he lay down on the floor.
An intensely bright white flash of light filled the room. Thirteen felt pieces of rock tumbling down upon him from the ceiling. A strange sensation went through his body. The first system that failed was his sense of sight. He was sure that his eyes were open, but he perceived nothing but blackness. Then, all of a sudden, his surroundings went mute. The shaking temple, the crumbling rocks, the roaring sound of destruction, it was all gone in the blink of an eye. He could still feel the rocks falling on top of him, but he was incapable of movement.
It was the soft breeze that stroked his hair that made him wake up. He felt a warm hand on his cheek. He opened his eyes, and saw how her crystalline blue eyes hovered above him. It was spring, he could smell it. Nature had this certain way of spreading her scent in spring, by which you could identify her. She took his hand, and helped him up. Above them towered an ancient oak, and he was sure that if you took the effort to listen, it could tell you the most beautiful stories. She smiled at him as she pressed a kiss on his lips. "Wake up commander, her glowing, smooth features said to him, wake up..."
"Commander Thirteen!" Slowly Thirteen began to regain his consciousness, as he heard commander Peers's voice. Thirteen let T'Brel pull him back to his feet. It took him some time before he regained his balance. It was pitch black in front of his eyes. "We've been pretty lucky sir," T'Brel said, "our suits seem to be intact." "Intact?" Thirteen asked, "I find it rather disturbing that our lights have gone out." "What are you talking about sir?" "The flashlights, in our suits, they are not functioning, I cannot see anything." "Ehm... sir... they - are - functioning."
It crept into Thirteen's mind, and struck unexpected, like a snake awaiting its ultimate chance to attack; whatever it was that had just happened, it had cost Thirteen his sight. "Are you okay sir?" T'Brel asked as Thirteen fell silent. "Can you identify what just struck us commander?" Thirteen asked. "My tricorder seems to have taken quite a blow, it is restarting now." "Hmm," T'Brel said as he analyzed the readings on his tricorder, "it seems that we have been hit by a powerful electromagnetic shock wave." "Could you make a scan of my visual cortex?" "Of course," T'Brel said as he moved his tricorder over the back of Thirteen's head.
"This... this is impossible!" T'Brel said, "your visual cortex is operating at double its maximum capacity!" "In other words, it is overloaded," Thirteen concluded, "which is why I am vision impaired for the time being." "So... what's next?" T'Brel asked. "Our mission has not changed, we need to get out of this place as soon as possible. For now, it is vital that we establish contact with commander Kirk and lieutenant Eddons." ~/\~ Commander Kirk, lieutenant Eddons, this is commander Thirteen, respond! ~/\~ "It's no use commander," T'Brel said, "for as far as I can scan the temple is filled with electromagnetic radiation, interfering with our communication devices."
"That sounds logical. In that case, we will simply have to look for them. Give me your hand commander, you will have to guide me through this. I suggest that we head the way commander Kirk and lieutenant Eddons where headed." Thirteen firmly took a hold of T'Brel's left hand, a bit too firm to T'Brel's liking, but Thirteen could not read the expression on his face. "Here we go sir, watch your step, there's rocks and rubble lying on the ground," T'Brel informed. And so T'Brel and his blinded commanding officer went on their way to find their two other crew mates.

THUD
THUD
THUD
Kirk's eyes shot open but he saw nothing but darkness. His head continued to pound with each beat of his heart. Kirk tried to instinctivly move around to bring himself back up to his feet but found him movements were limited. It was then that his head began to slowly clear and he remembered falling.
How far did we fall? How long have I been out? Am I hurt? I don't feel hurt. Kirk thought as he manuevered his right arm away from his body. Slowly he snaked his arm though a small passage until he could wiggle his fingers with out touching any rocks. Is that the top or is it deeper down?
Inside his helmet Kirk could hear broken transmissions from the suit to suit COM system. He closed his eyes and strained to listen to the sounds coming through. Female, sounds like struggling. Lieutenant Amhil.
Using his free arm Kirk pushed off any small piece of debris that he could from his awkward position. The more he unearthed himself the clearer the signal became, he could hear heavy breathing every few seconds until the signal broke up again.
"Amhil." Kirk called out hoping to hear the comforting sound of a friendly voice come back, but nothing came back, only the intermitant sounds he had been hearing before.
Pushing with all his might Kirk tried to pry himself from beneath the rubble but still he found himself unable to free himself. It was then that he felt something on the side of his face, it was warm and it felt as if it was sliding down his cheek toward his neck. Insticntivly Kirk moved to touch his face but his fingers ran head long into the suits helmet, the warm slithering feeling continued down his cheek.
"I have to get up, I have to get out of here." Kirk said to himself as he again tried to free himself.
This time Kirk pushed hard with his legs as he felt around with his free arm. With each effort Kirk felt the debris starting to move, and after a few moments Kirk was able to roll onto his back and into a better pushing position. Taking a few quick deep breaths Kirk pushed as hard as he could up with his arms and out with his legs. Sounds of pebbles and dirt crashed onto the front of his helmet giving him an indication he was on the right track.
"One more," Kirk said, "You have got one more in you."
The sweat was pouring down his brow as he again pushed with all he had left in his nearly empty tank. This time something happened, his legs kicked free but the weight he was trying to push with his arms was more than he could press. In an instant a heavy piece pinned his left arm to the ground at the elbow.
Kirk let out a loud scream of pain and quickly passed out.
“Commander? ...Jon? Can you hear me?” Amhil asked.
Kirk opened his eyes again and saw flashing and blinking lights in front of his face. It was with this dim light that he could now see an area where his face had smacked up against the helmet, leaving a small red blood mark.
"I can hear you," Kirk said turning his head to his left arm, "It is good to hear your voice."
The tricorders lights danced around and at first Kirk thought his arm had been cut off at the elbow until he finally saw that he could move his fingers that hid just beyond the rock.
"Ok, hold on a second." Amhil said as she positioned the tricorder on the ground. Kirk nodded inside his helmet and closed his eyes for he knew what was about to come.
Amhil rolled the rock off of Kirk's elbow, the pain was so intense that he felt himself blacking out again but this time he found to urge to pass out.
"Better?" Amhil asked.
"Much." Kirk said through the pain.
"Hold on, this is going to hurt." She said.
Kirk closed his eyes and again waited for the pain that was to come. Amhil pulled his arm by the wrist and strapped it across his chest creating a crude splint. Kirk was surpried that it did not hurt as much as he thought it was going to.
"Lets get you up sir." Amhil said as she grabbed a hold of Kirk's good arm. With one hard yank Kirk was back on his feet.
"Do you know where we are?" Kirk asked.

T'Brel Peers didn't know it yet, but his body was starting to fail him. The adrenaline that ran through his body was almost spent and the extra effort in helping Commander Thirteen made things that much more difficult. The suits that protected them from the planet enviornment would net be able to protect them for much longer. T'Brel had lied to Thirteen, his suit was not functioning properly. He could already notice the oxygen drop in his suit, though if necessary he could slow down his breathing considerable, but it still wouldn't help him for long.
"Commander Thirteen, watch your step, three big boulders are blocking our current path," T'Brel said as he surveyed the area around them. He noticed that the door that was blocking them before had collasped and that some of the coffins had been destroyed. "Commander, we are going to have to hurry, the coffins have been destroyed and they will begin to attract the attention of the lights."
"Understood Commander," Thirteen said still unable to see. T'Brel had been taught field medicine, but nothing like this. As T'Brel navigated both men through the now destroyed temple, he couldn't help but feel saddened at the loss of so much knowledge. They would never know what the markings on the pillers meant or the secrets they held.
"Sir is it possible for one of your borg implants to send a short burst of NFM wavelengths," T'Brel asked. He knew that shortwave radios were a crude way of communicating, but they were able to navigate through heavy electromagnetic fields. As long as he knew the exact frequency it would work.

Thirteen considered T'Brel's proposal. "It might indeed work commander," he responded, "however it is vital that I know the exact resonance frequency of the electromagnetic field." "I'll do my best commander," T'Brel said as he took out his tricorder and started scanning the field. "117 point 389 terra Herz," T'Brel said. "I hope that I have enough energy left to perform this action, but I will try."
Thirteen concentrated on his internal systems, and calibrated his cortical implant to exercise the short bursts of NFM wavelengths. He patterned them the ancient morse code way, and rerouted his energy to the implant. "Standby commander, I am going to give it a try," Thirteen said. T'Brel's tricorder went on a rampage as soon as Thirteen started emitting the wavelengths. It beeped in longer, and in shorter tones; a pattern could clearly be recognized.
Inside Thirteen fought to keep the emission going, the process was rapidly draining his energy, and he was risking a serious system failure. What he did not realize was that his entire body was shaking, and that his arms and legs were uncontrollably moving about the place, quite a frightening sight for T'Brel, who tried to get through to Thirteen, but couldn't manage.
Then Thirteen cut it off, and staggered on his feet for a few seconds, before T'Brel gave him his shoulder for support. "Thank you commander," Thirteen said, "did the emission go well?" "Yes, my tricorder, picked it up, rather violently I might add." "Let us hope that commander Kirk and lieutenant Eddons receive it." "Are you okay sir? Are you feeling alright?" T'Brel asked. "It cost me a lot of energy, but I will manage. How much time do we have left before our oxygen runs out commander?" "Two hours, and twenty eight minutes sir."

T'Brel would have never suggested the NFM wavelengths if he had known how Thirteen would of reacted. He was seriously afraid that he would die in the attempt. With a sigh of relief T'Brel supported Thirteen when he could no longer sustain the message.
"Sir, the attempt was a success," T'Brel said," according to my tricorder the message went out at least 500 meters and I know that Jon knows Morse Code."
"That is good Commander," Commander Thirteen responded.
"Now we just have to keep up looking," T'Brel said as he began to lead the two of them ahead. Hopefully Jon would pick it up and triangulate with Commander Thirteen's implants. If that didn't work T'Brel would have to start screaming at the top of his lungs and hope that he would be heard.

Kirk seemed to be in pain when Amhil pulled him up, and her worry grew when she picked up the tricorder and saw the smear of blood on the front of his helmet, where undoubtedly his nose had smashed into the glass.
“I believe we're on a lower level, though I'm not exactly sure how much deeper down we are..” Amhil answered Kirk's inquiry through chattering teeth, releasing him from her helping hand but keeping a close eye on him nonetheless. “I'm afraid we can't see much at the moment, sir.”
Jonathan took a step forward and stumbled slightly, which caused Amhil to reach out, but fortunately he seemed to be able to keep his balance. Amhil stopped and smiled slightly, glad that Kirk seemed to be able to walk on his own, at least.
“If you'd let me take a look at your suit, sir, maybe I'll be able to get one of those flashlights on.” Amhil offered, and without waiting for a reply, took Jonathan's good arm in her hands and examined the small flashlight attached to the front of the suit.
“It looks like it's still intact, which is a good thing. Mine's been smashed to pieces.“ She said, and Kirk nodded, a gesture that was almost entirely lost in the darkness. “Do you think you'll be able to fix it?” He asked.
Suddenly, the tricorder Amhil had been using as make-shift light while examining Kirk's arm, began emitting a faint beep, indicating it was getting readings from somewhere. Surprised it was still working, Amhil took a closer look at it, and saw it seemed to be picking something up. However, since the tricorder was still damaged, the reading were kind of garbled.
“It...seems it's getting some kind of signal. But I can't get it to display it properly.” Amhil told Kirk, and tried to get the small thing to work. “It seems to be a series of short and longer wavelengths.”
Kirk stared of in space as if listening intently to something, as if hearing something that the Chief engineer was oblivious to. A few moments later he looked over Amhil's shoulder as she managed to save the signal and amplify it, which caused the output on the little screen to be a lot clearer.
“Wait a second...” Amhil said, suddenly recognizing the pattern in the message.
“It's Morse Code.” Kirk said, quickly, confirming Amhil's initial thoughts. “Can you trace it?”
“I..I don't think that's going to work. The signal is very faint, I´m surprised we picked it up at all.” Amhil answered, staring intently at the screen while trying to decipher the message. “What does it say?”

Kirk closed his eyes and listened to the faint message, it was then that he started to hear the message in his head rather than from the tricorder. With in seconds Kirk recognized the signature of the signal, it was Borg, more specifically it was Thirteen's.
“What does it say?” Kirk heard Amhil said through the suit to suit COM system.
Several moments passed by in silence before Kirk opened his eyes again, "It is hard to make out because I cannot hear all the complete code. From what I can piece together it seems Thirteen and T'Brel are having problems and Thirteen is requesting our location. The broken code repeats itself several times before it cuts out."
"Ok, so what do we do now?" Amhil asked as she continued to work on Kirk's helmet light.
"We need to link back up with Thirteen and T'Brel," just as Kirk finished his sentence his helmet lights came back on illuminating the area they were in.
Kirk scanned around his his head sending light into the deepest parts of the room. The room they had fallen into was massive, looking up Kirk saw they had fallen about twenty feet. Walking slowly Kirk examined the large pillars that seemed to hold up the roof of this room from falling in on itself.
Each pillar was sculpted in such a manner that they resembled a humanoid like figure. A massive stone creature stood before Kirk, its large animal like arms extended out in a menacing position, fingers spread open revealing long sharp claws on each hand.
"They almost look like ancient Earth werewolf's." Kirk said.
Amhil agreed and the two continued their slow walk through the room until they found a small passage way. Kirk could not find another way to go so they proceeded cautiously into the depths.
There was only silence as Kirk and Amhil walked, they both seemed to be worried about falling into yet another rabbit hole than keeping up a good conversation. The stress of the situation was starting to get to Kirk and for the first time in a long time he yearned for the constant voices of the collective. There was something soothing about hearing the thoughts of the collective coursing through his head.
Suddenly Kirk started to hear something inside of his helmet through the COM system, "Did you hear that?" Kirk asked.
"Hear what?" Amhil replied.
"I thought I just heard somebody say 'hello'," Kirk said, "It was very faint, shh. Listen there it is again."
Kirk stopped walking and listened as hard as he could to his COM system. Looking down at the volume control on his wrist Kirk pressed a few buttons and suddenly the volume on his headset increased until he could hear the ambient white noise of the COM system.

There was no way to confirm that Jon and Amhil got their message. In fact T'Brel was starting to get a bit worried. They had enough air for two more hours, but his strength would be depleted long before that would matter.
"Commander, I think its time for us to go the low tech approach," T'Brel said as he began yelling. His voice echoed throughout the cave which was a good thing for them.
"Did you hear any response sir?" T'Brel asked knowing the answer would be no. The fact they didn't receive a response was not that alarming. T'Brel braced himself and the commander and continued to walk forward. Every few meters he stopped and screamed and waited for a response.
After the fifth try, T'Brel could almost sware that he heard someone respond to his call.
"Sir, I think I just heard Jon's voice," T'Brel said before he screamed once again," JON IS THAT YOU!"

The echo in the Temple carried far, and T'Brel's attempts to scream for Amhil and John may not be in vain. Thirteen was still recovering from emitting the NFM wavelengths, and slowly regained some energy. His sight had not returned yet, and time was beginning to run out. "Are you still managing commander?" Thirteen asked T'Brel, well aware that his navigation officer was carrying the both of them. "Yeah, I'll manage," he responded. T'Brel screamed once more, and Thirteen concentrated on listening for response as hard as he could.
Now Thirteen too heard something echoing back at them, though he wasn't sure whether it was just T'Brel's voice bouncing back at them, or whether it was really commander Kirk. But then, as T'Brel held silent for a few seconds, again they could here someone, or something shouting back at them. It was impossible to tell whether it was actually their first officer, but at least they were heard. "Can you pick up anything with your tricorder?" Thirteen asked T'Brel. "No, the electromagnetic radiation is too strong, it is practically interfering with all of the tricorder's scanning functions."
"Let us proceed in the direction lieutenant Eddons and commander Kirk set off before we embarked on our search through the temple, that is our best chance to find them," Thirteen said. T'Brel nodded, unseen, and guided Thirteen through the main hall. Though Thirteen couldn't see, he could feel the presence of the electromagnetic entities, floating over their heads in the main hall. "Commander, there is one and a half hour of oxygen left," T'Brel told Thirteen as the two officers entered the corridor John and Amhil had gone into at the start of their search for an exit.
"Time is applying its pressure on us, but we must not budge," Thirteen said, "it is vital that we remain rational at this time, and not fall into the destructive grasp of panic." T'Brel raised an eyebrow on Thirteen's wise words, but continued dragging his commanding officer down the corridor, whilst screaming once more for commander Kirk and lieutenant Eddons. The the relief came, as the two officers heard their names being shouted back at them, be it vaguely audible.
"Hold it there commander," Thirteen heard T'Brel say as he was gently pushed to a halt, "there's a hole in the ground here, it appears that it caved in. I wonder if Amhil and John fell into it." T'Brel shouted their names down into the hole, but strangely there came no reply. "We have to get down there, see if they are alright," T'Brel said. "It is too dangerous," Thirteen said. "But sir-" T'Brel didn't get the chance to finish his sentence, as the sound of crumbling and crashing rock sent both Thirteen and T'Brel downward.
Thirteen felt how he landed hard on the rock carpet beneath him, but knew that he could have landed a lot worse. "Commander Peers, are you in order?" Thirteen heard a soft moaning from right next to him. He started scanning the ground with his hands, until he found T'Brel. "Commander," Thirteen said once more. "I- I'm okay sir," T'Brel said sounding a bit dazed. "Is our equipment still functioning?" "I think so, "I've still got light." Thirteen felt how T'Brel helped him up. "Great, now what," T'Brel said, "this corridor's going two ways, which one to take?" "I honestly have no idea commander," Thirteen replied. "I suggest we go that way," Thirteen said as he pointed into the dark. "That is a wall, sir," T'Brel said. "Right. You pick a way commander." T'Brel took Thirteen's arm once more, and the two officers started plunging through the pile of rocks on the floor.
