U.S.S Tigershark: [Mission thread] "To the stars"

Off: Hey everyone, I'm back. I've certainly missed something. Very interesting mission! And I've learned something else: John Wood. Wow commander, I never knew you had a first name

Danny was on his way to the Brig. He wanted to see Andrew alone before the official interrogation with COunselor Savali began. It all seemed so strange. Every piece of evidence pointed in Greenvalley's direction, yet the man didn't seem capable of a cruel murder. On the other hand, Ted Bundy had also looked like a nice guy from next door and look what he had turned out to be..........

Still, the Level 12 restrictions pointed a little too openly in Greenvalley's direction. At the very least, he would have needed someone on the outside to help him, which means he wasn't the only guilty party. Moreover, the outsider was a high ranking officer, a Black Ops specialist or a very skilled hacker, since no-one else could have installed level 12 codes aboard a Federation Starship.

Danny entered the Brig, where Greenvalley was just sipping from a glass of water. He looked shocked, which would be a great advantage in their conversation. The Ensign saluted and Danny returned the salute. He looked at Greenvalley and then turned to the Ensign. "Ensign, dismissed." "Yes sir, I'll be outside if you need me." The Ensign departed and Danny pulled up a chair outside of the forcefield.

For a couple of minutes, both men stared at each other. Then, Danny opened his mouth. "Andrew, Andrew, how could it have come this far again? I thought I was being paranoid when I first arrested you, but after you activated the code, Commander Wood ordered me to take you into custody again. What do you have to do with the code?"

''I don't know,'' Andrew answered. ''The first time I saw it was on that padd you gave me where when I had to pronounce the code on it.''

''That took me to the messhall,'' Andrew sounded annoyed, ''then when I was freshening up before going to pay J'Leera a visit and you busted in, I had apparently made an unauthorised call, which was guarded by that code.''

''Now it's a level 12 security code,'' Andrew continued, ''that means that you cannot just crack into the established link and drop into the conversation. It was a set up. Noone can hack a level 12 security code unless the person using it wanted them too. That way someone tried to frame me.''

Danny thought for a moment. ''You know what has gotten my attention?'' He paused for a second, eventhough it was a rhetorical question. ''You always have answers to everything.''

''That's because I'm innocent, because I haven't murdered lieutenant Thirteen,'' Andrew replied.

''Or it's a case of precaution and very good planning. For some reason I think there's more behind you than just the star-scientist you appear to be. However I cannot prove that,'' Danny said.

''And you daresay you first were being paranoid? I've got to say that I admire your spirit of evaluating all possibilities concerning crimes, but don't overreact,'' Andrew stated.

Danny fell silent.

''Danny, I've got to ask you something,'' Andrew said, being returned with a nod from Danny. ''Can I please, please for just half an hour go and see how J'Leera's doing? Please, I'll return to the brig right afterwards, and you can send as much security officers with me as you like, but please let me go and see how she's doing.''

Danny's face expressed hesitation. ''What's going on between you and J'Leera?'' he asked.

''I-'' Andrew turned slightly red, ''okay, I fell in love with her alright, I asked her for dinner, and one thing led to another. But I barely had the chance to spend time with her, and now I'm stuck in the brig, again.'' He sighed, ''so please let me go.''

Danny stared at him.

Danny was unsure what to do. On the one hand, he wanted to grant Greenvalley's request to see J'Leera. After all, she was in Sickbay and Danny himself had no idea how she was. He just hadn't had the time to visit her. On the other hand, granting this request was a breach of every protocol in the book. Under normal circumstances, such a request was only granted if the patient was terminally ill or in immediate danger of dying. No such thing was the case with J'Leera. Danny hesitated and Andrew looked up at him, pleading with his eyes. "One second," Danny said before disappearing in the office. He closed the door and tapped his combadge.

=^=Sir, Greenvalley is requesting to see J'Leera. He said I could send as many security officers with him as I wanted and that he would be good. I'm inclined to grant his request, but if he uses another transporter code, we might lose him=^=

=^=But if he uses a code, can he still be transported off the ship Commander? =^=

Danny re-entered the prison area. Greenvalley looked up at him, expectantly. "I'll see what I can do. I'll keep you informed Andrew," he said and left the Brig without further comments.

=/\=Not using our ships transporters, only way he would be able to do so is if he used his level 12 clearance and reactivated the transporters and then attempt to use them to beam away. However if he would attempt to do so it would completely annihilate his story and prove that he indeed has not been framed but that he is definitely the man we are looking for.=/\=

=/\=That would probably be a good idea but I want you to make sure that you will be able to locate him if he tries to escape, there do not appear to be any ships in the vicinity unless they are using some sophisticated cloaking device through which we can not penetrate. Go ahead and set up a trap, I’m counting on you to do a good job.=/\=, Felix said

=/\=But just in case he tries to beam of the ship i will have Mr. Fitzpatrick set up a dispersive field around the hull which will prevent any transport operations leading of the ship by scattering the beams=/\=

After Felix was done speaking to Danny, he opened a new channel towards Mr. Fitzpatrick.

He walked through the Sickbay doors and saw the Fabrini pasta he had replicated still sitting on the table. No longer hot.

Luke went over to J'Leera and Tiffani.

"How's it going?" He asked.


*Tiffani and J'leera had been talking for what seemed only a few minutes but infact had been several hours when she heard luke's voice as he enter and smild at him* I think things are going okay

*she looked at J'jeera and smiled* Dont you agree?

Andrew's hope rose, "I'll see what I can do'' sounded a lot better than ''forget it''.

He layed back on the uncomfortable bench, and stared at the ceiling.

Time didn't pass fast enough for him. It seemed to torture him for ages, and still noone came. But the hope was a bright light at the dark horizon.

How was he going to get out of here? Would they really trial him for murder? Things hadn't gone by plan at all. He should never even have been arrested. What did I do wrong, he asked himself, not for the first time.

Andrew sighed and decided to wait.

Luke smiled. Tiffani looked content which was a good sign and some of the stress lines that had appeared on J'Leera's foreheard had gone.

Luke noticed Tiffani abesntmindedly patting her stomach, the new life in her was growing more and more everyday.

Danny went over to Engineering. Rye was working on the dispersive field configurations when Danny entered. "Hey Rye, I had a question." "Shoot." "Well I was thinking that Greenvalley might try to access his code again to transport away from the security team." "That's very likely, yes." "Would it be possible to tag him with something so we can instantly track him when he transports? He mustn't know anything about it because then he won't access the code."

Rye thought for a minute. "Well, I guess a radio-active isotope would do the trick. I could profide you with a flagon of the stuff. ALl you would have to do is hide it in your hand and then smahs the bottle gently as you put your hand on his shoulder. If he transports away to contact his buddies so they can beam him out, we have him pinned, nailed and busted red handed," he daid finally. "Rye, you're a genius! Are you sure this dispersive field will prohibit any transport?" "Well sure, unless we suffer a full scale attack, it will keep him here nice and easy." "Perfect! Let's get pn it right away."

*Tiffani watched a bit as Luke and J'leera visited* why don't i get out of here and let you two talk, if you need me just page me *she said with a warm smile and walked out of engineering and toward the brig to find Danny for the inevstigation*

Should get some rest soon *She thought to herself*

*She had a sharp pain in her stomach but thought nothing of it, she had been having small pains now for a day or two, she would see the doctor as soon as everything was over with and maybe he could figure out if they were indeed contractions or just pregnancy pains*

*she found herself in the turbolift and looked around for a moment before ordering it ot the brig* *She was surpised to not find Danny there so she tapped her comm badge*

J'Leera didn't want to think about what happened on the Hepta, but she supposed that bringing all of these things out was a good start. She sighed and gave her a brief summary of what happened. "Basically, we encountered something that caused people to hallucinate their worst nightmares. For myself it involved a skeleton of the captain and spiderwebs. For some reason, spiderwebs really bother me..."

"I think what's been going on with me...is...things that were really frightening happened to me," she said. "It's not every day where a person hallucinates their worst nightmares or is attacked by an ill person or almost killed. And then their's the guilt..." she sighed. "It was my fault that Ensign Caldwell was infected. He was on the Vesuvius. They took me from the Academy to Starbase Bellicose where you guys picked me and Luke up."

"I just feel so bad about it. I've written to him, apoligizing, but he never answered. I don't know what to do about him."

After talking awhile, she noticed that Luke stopped by wanting to know how things were going. Tiffani glanced over at her.

"Oh, absolutley!" she managed a weak smile. She wasn't fully back, but was starting to feel better.

Tiffani said that she'd be on her way and let her and Luke talk. J'Leera too noticed how Tiffani was patting her belly and she smiled, thinking about how fun it would be to have a baby around to play with. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to think back when her little sister was a baby and how much fun she had playing with her. She wondered if Tiffani knew yet whether the baby was a boy or girl yet.

"How are you J'Leera?" she heard Luke ask. She turned her attention to him.

"Better," she smiled.

"I think what's been going on with me...is...things that were really frightening happened to me," she said. *Tiffani thought for a moment before responding, it was coming for someone who had as much weight on their shoulders as J'leera to feel guilty about things but she wondered why sometimes people felt that way even though she was a counselor herself it always puzzled her but she would never let on that it did* J'leera what happened on the Vesuvius was not your fault, you shouldn't let yourself think that, things happened, you couldn't of predicted what would of come if they had picked you up. as for Ensign Caldwell, he could be busy and just hasn't had time to reply.

Luke shuffled over, not sure how to approach his friend. The amount they had gone through, why hadn't Luke ever bothered to check if she was alright?

He sat down next to her and smiled.

"How are you J'Leera?" He asked.

Her attention seemed elsewhere but she turned to him.

"Better," she smiled.

Luke wasn't so sure. He was worried about her, did she know about Greenvalley? He knew they were spending a lot of time with each other, how would she react to the suspicion that he had committed murder.

"The food here is naff, isn't it..." He said jokingly before trailing off.

"J'Leera, why didn't you ever come to me? You should know I am here for you." Luke said.

Counselor Savali entered Engineering, looking annoyed at the delay and the lack of explanation. "Ah Counselor," Danny said when she entered. "The reason I asked you here is because we have a plan. We're going to try setting Greenvalley up." "What do you mean?," she asked suspiciously.

"Allow me to explain Counselor," Commander Fitzpatrick interrupted. "Basically what we're going to do is give him the chance to access his code, thereby betraying himself. I've made a dispersive field around the ship, so he can't transport his way off the ship. He can however do a site-to-site transport on the ship. Lieutenant Löhnen will mark him with a radioactive isotope so we can immediately locate him and with the data on the internal sensors, we'll have an unbreakable case against him. He'll betray himself and nothing he says or does can safe him then."

Rye was in his office running a diagnostic on the internal sensor system. Since discovering Greenvalley's implications, he wanted to re-examine the sensors to see how they were tampered with so easily.

"I need you to set up a dispersive field which can disperse any transporter beams leading on or off the ship, don't ask me to explain now, i will explain why later, just try to be finished ASAP

"Aye, Commander, it will be up momentarily."

Rye got to work immediately, and began calibratind the dispursion field. Danny had come in and needed a substance easily tracked to ut on someone, but Rye told him he'd get back to him with a radioactive isotope. The field would need to be emitted by the navigational deflector in order for it to be of a high enough intensity to envelop the entire vessel, so he hurried to deflector control. Rye enabled the pulse gaussian emitter, and set up the field.

"Go ahead, Commander, is the field up?"

"Aye, sir, it is coming on-line now. Field strength will be enough to dissipate any transporter confinement beam coming in or out."

"Very good Commander. Anything else?"

"No, sir. Fitzpatrick out."(=/\=)

Rye returned to engineering where he provided Lieutenant Lohnen with the isotope, and gave him instructions on how to use it. Danny called Tiffani down to engineering where he explained his plan to set up Andrew. When they left, Rye returned to his office and finished the internal sensor system.

"I'm not really sure why I didn't," she answered. "When it comes to feelings I tend to be a very private person. I didn't really want to burden anyone else with my problems and they seemed so trivial at the time with all of our crazy missions and then Amy..."

"I suppose that you're right," she sighed. "You have been a good friend and for that I am very grateful," she said and smiled.

Luke gave her a questioning look, not sure what she meant. "What do you mean?"

Luke sighed. He knew it. With all his problems he had forgotten all about J'Leera.

"But you should of burdened me. Thats what friends are for." He looked at her. "Nothing is trivial if it concerns you this much. Yeah we've gone through one crazy mission after another and yes I did lose Amy..." He paused and took a deep breath "But I wouldn't want to lose you and nothing should of stopped you from talking to me."

"I suppose that you're right," she sighed. "You have been a good friend and for that I am very grateful," she said and smiled.

Luke nudged her in a friendly way and smiled.

"Is there something else?" she asked.

Luke gave her a questioning look, not sure what she meant. "What do you mean?"

"Is there something bothering you, because it looks like you want to tell me something, but don't really want to do it."

DamnHe thought to himself I know J'Leera really well, but she knows me really well as well. I'm going to have to tell her.

"J'Leera. I don't know what you have been told about the on going investigation into Thirteens death, but I think there is something you should know."

"Well, not exactly. We know that he has a new code and we are pretty sure he's goin to try it out. If he doesn't, we'll have to interrogate him thoroughly, but if he does try to use the code, we're on him in a second and then his behind is mine. No more detailed investigations as to his guilt. If he uses the code again, we have a very strong case against him and he has no way to go. We can build the pressure on him until he confesses what his exact function and mission on this ship are and who's been helping him to level 12 codes."

Rye looked up from the calculations he had been making. "Furthermore," he added, "Commander Savali has already given us a green light. The dispersive field will keep him firmly on the Tigershark. I for one am very curious to see what will happen."

Rye turned to Danny. "We're ready to close the trap now." "Understood. I'll notify Savali and Wood on my way to the Brig. Will you monitor things from here? " "Of course. Good luck." Danny smiled. "You too" and he walked out of Engineering.

Savali's voice came over the comm.

- Brig -

Danny entered the Brig with 5 Marines. Andrew, who was still sitting on his bed with his head in his hands looked up. "Danny, what's going to happen?" Two Marines positioned themselves on either end of his holding cell and the other three blocked the exit. "We're going to grant your request Andrew. We'll take you to see J'Leera in Sickbay."

Andrew's face lit up, a broad smile appeared on his face. "How can I ever thank you for this?" Danny's face became a shade darker. "Just don't do anything stupid." Danny walked towards the nearest comm panel. "Computer, deactivate forcefields, authorization Löhnen 3993 Red" #Authorization confirmed Marine Captain Löhnen, deactivating forcefields#

The forcefields were deactivated and Danny cuffed Andrew's hands before his body. "All right, gently now," he said and the party walked out of the Brig towards Sickbay. Danny walked beside Andrew, hoping he would activate his code. The other Marines flanked him on all sides, with the foremost Marine shooing away crewmembers who just happened to pass by.

After Felix finished his talk with Danny he sat back down in his seat and turned to Wood.

"Do you think this will work John?", he asked him

"I hope so to, i really do?", he said

<Wood>

"But i still don't understand why was Thirteen killed exactly, did he see something?"

"Did he know something?"

Rye looked up from the calculations he had been making. "Furthermore," he added, "Commander Savali has already given us a green light. The dispersive field will keep him firmly on the Tigershark. I for one am very curious to see what will happen."

*Tiffani had been listening to danny speak and it seemed sometimes he looked down on her but right now was not the time to deal with that, there was more important issues, for one she was a little upset that her husband had given the go ahead without speaking to her first, she would thought it would just been easier to let her try and see if he was lying, people had seemed to put her as just another crewmember more and lately and she was tired of it* I see, well i guess there is not much point in me being there then is there? *She questioned with a little distaine in her voice, before she could answer she felt a sharp pain in her stomach* Owe *She replied as she cripped the side of the door as they proceeded to leave*

Actually, I think now is exactly the time to deal with that. I know the mission thread perhaps isn't the right place for this, but I figured this needed some clearing up right here, right now.

Tif, what do you mean by saying that I'm looking down on you? I'm not and if you think I am, I'd like some more clarification before you start accusing me of things I haven't done.

Actually, my character is somewhat telepathic, but that's beside the point. If this is only an in-mission post, I don't mind one bit, but if this is serious and you really think that I'm looking down on you and that we as a crew don't treat you right, then the matter becomes much more serious.

*shakes head* it was only meant for in character, gotta remember my character is ready to give birth any time, and being a half betazoid she is filled with emotions and such.

For the first time in days again Andrew felt happy, but the smile on his face faded in the prospect of this being the last time he'd ever see her, he'd ever talk to her, he'd ever touch her.

But he showed no sign of his, and pretended to be happy that his request was granted.

''Here we are,'' Danny said sternly, facing Andrew, grabbing hold of his shoulder, ''don't do anything stupid Andrew.''

Danny indicated the guards: ''You'll be situated here,'' he poined at the two sides of the sickbay's entrance door.

Andrew took a deep breath, and followed Danny into sickbay, where he saw Luke besides J'Leera's biobed, talking to her.

''Luke,'' Danny adressed, ''Andrew has been granted clearance to talk to J'Leera, please leave us.''

Luke looked up, disturbed, and casted a dark, disgusted look at Andrew, who stared back with innocent eyes.

Luke look back at J'Leera, and wanted to say something. ''Now Luke,'' Danny said pressing.

''I'll be right back,'' Luke said to J'Leera as Danny received a dark look as well. Luke hustled out of sickbay.

''Andrew what's going on?'' J'Leera asked, fear sounding in her voice. ''Don't worry, I'll explain in a moment,'' Andrew said smiling, walking over to her.

Andrew turned to Danny: ''Mind you leave us?'' ''I don't think that would be-'' Danny started. ''Of course he will,'' J'Leera said, looking at Danny with penetrating eyes.

''I'll be right outside,'' Danny said, not sounding very confident. He exiting sickbay, and cast another look over his shoulder before the doors closed behind him.

Andrew turned back to J'Leera and kissed her. ''What took you so long to come and visit me again?'' she asked hugging him.

''They arrested me,'' Andrew said with a grimace. ''They what?'' J'Leera exclaimed, sitting upright in her biobed.

''They arrested me, they think I've murdered Thirteen.'' ''No, no, that can't be true,'' J'Leera said, ''you haven't have you?''

Andrew faced her, and her looked dep into her eyes. ''J'Leera, I'd never lie to you, I did not kill lieutenant Thirteen.''

''I believe you,'' J'Leera said, ''but then why did they turn you in?''

Andrew closed his arms aroundher middle. ''I don't know where they got their clues from, neither how they lead to me. But somehow there are a few paranoids aboard that think that someone gave me a level twelve clearance code, while all I did was call my mother.''

J'Leera didn't know what to say or what to think.

''Andrew,'' she said, looking him in his eyes, ''you can promis me that you have absolutely nothing to do with this murder right?''

Silence filled the USS Tiger Shark's sickbay.

''Right?'' she said with a trembling voice, sounding very uncertain. Andrew's eyes sank, and stared at the floor.

''Why Andrew? I can't believe it,'' J'Leera said, tears welling up in her eyes. ''Look at me!'' she exclaimed, grabbing a hold of his chin, raising his head in front of hers.

Tears streamed down Andrew's face as well. ''I, I can't lie to you J'Leera, but you have to believe me, I didn't kill lieutenant Thirteen, noone did, but-'' Far too late Andrew realised what he'd just said. That was the final mistake. It was over for him, all over.

''Thirteen's not dead?'' J'Leera asked in disbelief. Andrew rubbed a few tears away from his cheeks.

''You were here as a coverup, weren't you?'' J'Leera said, ''who are you working for Andrew? Where is Thirteen?''

''I can't tell you,'' Andrew said, swallowing. ''You don't trust me?'' J'Leera sounded angry.

''Of course I do!'' Andrew said taking a hold of her hands, but she pulled hers away. ''But it would be too dangerous.'' ''Too dangerous? Come on Andrew, we haven't been together for that long, actually, I don't ever know if we ever were together, but you can trust me, I, I-'' she didn't finish her sentence.

''J'Leera, if I tell you who I work for, who I really am, that would endanger your life! Please understand. You can not imagine how hard this mission has been for me! It would be a simple blue milk run. But that wasn't the case, I met you and fell in love. That made things so complicated, especially when things'd go wrong, and they did.''

''I don't know how, but somehow they managed to find out my level twelve clearance code and-'' suddenly Andrew realised he'd made another enormous mistake.

He ran over to a console, and began typing furiously. ''What are you doing?'' J'Leera asked. She didn't know how to cope with the situation.

#Delete sickbay sensor logs?# Appeared on the console screen.

''Yes,'' Andrew mumbled, typing what he'd just said #Authorisation code required.# The screen showed. Gamma-31-Zeta Andrew typed.

#Athorisation code confirmed, sensor logs of past 24 hours deleted.#

Andrew typed another few commands, and the next line of text appeared.

#Disable all sensors in sickbay?#

That required the same actions, and the internal sensors of sickbay were shut down. Andrew walked back to J'Leera. Good, noone'll know what was said in this conversation, he thought.

''You're scaring me Andrew,'' J'Leera said, ''I think it is best you leave now.'' ''Please hear me out, just a few more minutes.''

J'Leera didn't answer, but neither seemed to object.

''It's all my fault,'' Andrew began, ''I messed up a simply mission, and now I ruined everything. What we had, what I had with the other crewmembers.'' He was silent for a moment, and swallowed another time.

''J'leera,'' Andrew finally said, ''I love you. I will hate myself forever for the fact that my mistake make an 'Us' impossible, and also, for hurting you this way, hurting you at all, I will forever hate myself for that.''

J'Leera listened with mixed emotions, but hearing him say to her that he loved her just couldn't stop her from telling him the truth. ''I love you too,'' she whispered, but Andrew could clearly hear it.

For the last time ever he brought his lips to hers, and kissed her. ''Farewell J'Leera,'' he said taking a few steps back.

''Andrew!'' J'Leera exclaimed, ''there must be a way! You didn't kill anyone, can't you just await your trial? And then-''

''I'm sorry J'Leera, I can't, I just can't,'' Andrew said, wiping a welled up tear from the corner of his eye.

''Computer, activate escape pattern Andrew Greenvalley 31,'' Andrew said, staring at J'Leera. *Authorisation denied, the tranportersystem has been locked.*

''Computer unlock the transportersystem, authorisation code Gamma-31-Zeta,'' Andrew sated.

*Authorisation code confirmed, vocal recognised, transportersystem unlocked.*

Andrew repeated the escape patern, and the blue light of the transporter took him away.

He reappeared in the shuttle bay, and ran over to a shuttle, which he entered and powered up.

He gave a few commands to the control panel, and that way signalled they shuttlebaydoors to open. They only thing between freedom and a life as a captive was the safety forcefield that now covered where the doors'd gone open.

The forcefield would allow any shuttle to pass, it was just a security that made sure nothing in the shuttlebay'd be sucked out once the doors were open.

Andrew powered up the shuttlecraft, or atleast attempted to. ''What's going on?'' he said, fear stricken.

His eyes widend and his yaw dropped at the sight of the error message.

#Cannot engage flight, impulsengines are not aboard.#

Andrew swore, and strode out of the shuttlecraft, coming to an immediate halt.

In front of him stood Danny, with a small army of security personell behind him.

''It's over Andrew,'' Danny said, ''it's all over.''
