Two hours wasn't much time but Saryn knew he had to be patient and more importantly: trust Ankar. He still wasn't certain whether he could trust the dark-skinned Mirandan but so far the older man had made no aggressive moves towards him. Well, none other than holding a gun on him hours prior to getting here.
Silently, Saryn finished his salad and drank his juice as quickly as possible, but slow enough to not seem to be in a rush. When they were done, Ankar led him to a small room and pointed to a bed. Still silent, Saryn nodded in understanding. While they waited for the meeting to convene, Saryn should take all the rest he could get.
Being a fairly light sleeper, Saryn woke exactly two hours later upon hearing voices. A knock on the door and he was on his feet, feeling somewhat refreshed. Checking his sword, Saryn re-arranged his uniform and replaced the make-shift headband to hide his pointed ears from the others. "I am ready," he told Ankar, while he followed the old Mirandan general to the conference room.
Once there, he seated himself in one of the vacant seats and waited for the rest to settle down. Then he glanced across the table at Ankar, who was still standing and motioning for everyone to quiet down. "We should hurry," Saryn insisted, "there is not much time left. If that was my ship up there, they are in trouble."
That drew a few odd glances from the assembled soldiers but Saryn paid them no heed. "If need be, I will fight the masked ones on my own," he continued, placing his sword across the table before him. He ignored Ankar's furious glance, remembering that the old man told him he'd do the talking. "But I would much rather have your assistance. We would both benefit from it. It would free your people, both dark and pale faced and it would also help me return to my home."

~~~~~~~~~~~ USS Cougar – Brig ~~~~~~~~~~~
Andy listened to Mike’s explanation of what had happened in Engineering and simply nodded. Mike knew that Andy would know what he meant being burdened with the safety and responsibility of all the crewmen aboard Challenger. As Mike managed to pull himself up from the floor and struggled to sit on a nearby bench he heard Andy alerting them to Leth’s disappearance.
“Where’s Ensign Leth?”
Mike turned, “I haven’t seen him, wasn’t he on the Bridge with you two?”
(Andy/Jack)
“Maybe, he is still aboard Challenger? Or he is in another holding cell? I’m hoping it’s the former.”
(Andy/Jack)
As the trio were discussing Leth’s apparent disappearance, a Security Officer entered. He stared at the trio from across the cell, “Captain Harper would like to speak with you Andrew Kirk.” The man said the Captain’s name with contempt, not addressing Andy by his rank.
Mike sprung to his feet on instinct, “The Captain is going nowhere without us. Traitor!” Mike spat at the security officer in a blind fit of rage.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Miranda – Army HQ ~~~~~~~~~~~
Ankar and Saryn finished up their meal then Ankar directed Saryn to some quarters just off his own office. “You can rest here Saryn it is safe and the meeting is not for 2 hours from now.”
The old General left Saryn to rest as he prepared for the meeting of commanders he had convened. This would not be easy, some would find it preposterous and even Ankar had his enemies from within the military so it would be imperative to move quickly. Ankar called his most faithful Lieutenant Brotus to his Office, within minutes his subordinate and friend arrived.
“Brotus, I need you to have a team of guards standing by at the Conference room. If some of the Commanders do not agree to the plan, they will need to be detained.” Ankar said, looking for guidance from his friend.
“Understood sir, I hope you are right about the masked ones. Otherwise it is treason.” Brotus replied.
“I am certain that the masked ones intentions are impure or I wouldn’t be doing this…” Ankar answered and nodded for Brotus to leave.
2 hours passed and General Ankar had washed and changed into a fresh uniform for the meeting. Reaching Saryn’s quarters he chapped the door and awaited the vulcan to accompany him to the imminent meeting. The Conference room was a vast hall with a large circular table in its center with room for about 20 men. Being only 8 commanders in all there were spare chairs and Saryn sat himself in the chair opposite to Ankars.
"We should hurry," Saryn insisted, "there is not much time left. If that was my ship up there, they are in trouble."
Ankar shook his head vehemently but the vulcan continued…
"If need be, I will fight the masked ones on my own," Saryn placed his sword on the table, "But I would much rather have your assistance. We would both benefit from it. It would free your people, both dark and pale faced and it would also help me return to my home."
General Ankar’s face suddenly changed in horror, as the realisation of what had sunk in began to dawn on the Commanders. “General, what is going on? I demand an explanation, is this meeting to seek to remove the mask ones from our planet?” One of the Commanders exclaimed, with other Commanders nodding in agreement and looking to Ankar for answers.
Ankar did his best to explain the situation as well as he understood it and told the Commanders of what Saryn had informed him of the masked ones and of his own people and how they could help. Saryn interjected on occasion but for the most part the General did the talking…
“I propose that we perform our duty to protect our people and rise up against the masked ones, they are a danger to us all! Pale or dark skinned!” Ankar thumped the table at the culmination of his speech, convincing some of the commanders but there were still doubts.
“What do you propose General? We overthrow the government? Our job is to protect the sovereignty of the government not to undermine it!” The Commander objected.
“So we stand by and allow the masked ones to undermine it! We sieze the parliament building and seize the masked ones there. From there we hold our position and interrogate the masked ones, we inform them they are to leave and never come back! Saryn’s ship and crewmates shall help us…”
Ankar turned to Saryn for his input, and motioned to the vulcan to take the floor.

“The Captain is going nowhere without us. Traitor!” Mike spat at the security officer.
Kirk held up his hand, he knew it was useless to fight at this point, “I’ll be back.” Kirk said to Jack and Mike as he exited the cell.
Following the security officers Kirk walked along in silence. He tried to get an idea of where he was but it was hard because this ships corridors looked different than Challengers. They all looked alike to Kirk and he doubted that he would be able to find his way back even if he was to escape.
While looking up at the corner of the corridors ceilings Kirk spotted something interesting, but it wasn’t on the walls, rather, it was on one of the security guards neck. He began to walk faster so he could get a good look at the man’s neck, but it was tough because his duty uniform’s collar was slightly covering the near crater like formation on the man’s neck. The officer seemed to sense Kirk’s gaze and turned his neck to look back at the former Captain. Kirk set his eyes straight ahead and kept his chin up as he had been trained.
The door buzzed on Captain Harper’s door and Kirk stepped through once it was opened. Harper waved off the two guards letting himself and Kirk be alone. The door slide closed behind Kirk, he turned his head and saw the locking system was turned on. This might be his chance to winning back freedom.
“Have a seat Andrew.”
“Andrew Lester Kirk, Captain, Alpha-607-8975.” Kirk said at attention.
Harper laughed as he sat down, “This isn’t an interrogation Andy.”
Kirk remained at attention, his eyes only looking straight ahead at the bare wall. Harpers amusement quickly vanished, as Kirk kept up his name, rank, and serial number routine.
“Dammit!” Harper banged his hand on his desk, “I don’t want any information out of you.” Harper said getting in Kirk’s face.
Kirk’s eyes met Harper’s eyes and he could see that this wasn’t the man he knew in the Academy. This man was something else, almost as if it was somebody else. Was that possible, Kirk thought, Could somebody change so dramatically in just a short period of time?
“What do you want?” Kirk finally asked.
Harper lightened up and turned around and sat back at his desk. Kirk stayed standing at attention, his eyes back on the bare wall, “At ease.” Harper ordered.
Kirk defiantly remained at attention, “I don’t take orders from you.” Kirk said breaking himself from his still stature.
“You will if you want to live.” Harper replied as he pulled out a cigar from his desk drawer. He lit the cigar and took two large puffs from the cigar before he spoke again, “The Mirandian Army wants your head on a plate.” The smoke from the cigar was starting to fill in the room as if it was an early thirties detective movie.
“Why?”
“It seems that your missing medical officer has been causing problems down there. Since you’re the commanding officer I informed them that you and you alone take responsibility for the actions of your crew.”
Kirk didn’t have to be a mind reader to know where this was going; the writing was already on the wall. Harper continued, “I doubt you agree with me at this point but I don’t see how you have any choice.”
“If it’s me you want then let my crew go.”
“Can’t do that Andrew.”
“Why?”
Harper took another puff from his cigar, letting the smoke fill the room up even more, “Complicated.”
“I don’t see how it is. If they want to put me on trial let them, but my crew had nothing to do with my actions.”
“I agree with you there, but these Mirandans are a curious people…especially in the field of medicine.” Harper let his words trail off. He was driving at something but he wasn’t going to say what specifically. Several more drags came out of Harper’s mouth and filled the room up even more, “Something about using alien life forms to test out the cures for several of their deadly dieses.”
Kirk’s mouth dropped and in that instance he knew that he and his crew had suddenly turned into lab rats, “You son of a-“ Kirk started.
“Now hold it,” Harper said standing up, “Don’t blame me. I’m just doing what any wronged Starship Captain would do, get paid. They are paying me more money than you’ll ever know for you and your crew, and now that I have your ship I’m going to start calling myself Commodore Harper.” Harper began laughing to himself, his teeth clenched hard against his cigar.
Kirk had all he could take; he sprang forth and tackled Harper to the ground. Harper continued to laugh in between the punches Kirk was landing on his face, “Is that all you’ve got?” Harper laughed.
In one quick backhand Kirk found himself on the opposite side of the attack. He felt the blood running from his nose as he tried to get back to his feet before Harper had the chance to recover. It was to late, Harper grabbed Kirk by his collar and lifted him off the ground. Kirk tried to pry Harper’s grip off of him but Harper’s strength was unreal.
He felt his momentum go backwards and without warning he was being slammed repeatedly into hard walls of Harper’s office. Kirk’s head went one way then the other. Each slam brought concussion flashes to his eyes, and with each new impact the flashes and dizziness got heavier. The only thing he could hear was the constant laughter as Harper continued to pound Kirk into the back of the wall.
“That’s enough!” Kirk heard somebody say.
Harper dropped Kirk and let the Starfleet Captain crumble on the ground, “Of course sir.” Harper replied.
Kirk tried to see who Harper was talking about but he was nearly gone. He coughed and rolled onto his back to get more air and what he saw shocked him to the bone. Where Harper had been slamming him into the wall was now a deep dent in the metal wall.
“How in the world…” Kirk faded and passed out.

-NX-03 CHALLENGER-
Harper stood on the bridge of the Challenger like a victorious general, his hands rested on his waist as his head panned around the broken and beaten bridge. Dried blood could still be seen where some officers were injured, while others lost their lives. Harper couldn’t help but smile and let out a good laugh at his conquest. He had taken down the mighty NX Class starship, and now his fleet was growing.
Two ships today, Harper thought, three tomorrow, four the next and one day I’ll have my own fleet!
There wasn’t enough room on the Cougar to detain every crewmember so Harper had put all the engineers to work repairing the damaged Challenger. He however, had to secure the MACO units knowing full well they were loyal to Captain Kirk and the Challenger.
It had been two days of low warp factor traveling and Harper was starting to get antsy. He wanted to see the looks on the Mirandans faces when they saw for the first time other worldly creatures. Beings from another distant planet would shock this culture to its core, but, with the defeat of these invading aliens the current leaders rule was assured, and so was Harper’s place in the Romulan Fleet.
“Engineering to bridge.” Harper’s most trusted officer, his Chief Engineer, called up from the bowels of the ship.
“Go ahead.” Harper called back at the push of a button.
“Sir, warp five is now available.”
Harper smiled, “Thank you Chief.”
“Just doing my job sir.”
“Helm, increase speed to warp factor five.”
In front of Harper sat the Challenger’s Chief Navigational Officer, a young Ensign, fresh from the Academy. His skills as a pilot were already well known in the area and Harper made sure to put such a skilled officer to use.
“I said warp factor five!” Barked Harper to the young pilot.
“Warp five.” Replies the pilot, making sure to leave out ‘Sir’. He wasn’t going to show this traitor one ounce of respect that an officer of his rank deserves.
“ETA?” Harper asked.
The young pilot moved slowly across his controls to stall, force his captor to become angry and agitated, “Twelve hours, thirteen minutes.”

Saryn had taken note of the shocked faces around him at the revelation that he was no Mirandan. To prove his point he removed the make-shift headband to show his pointed ears and slanted eyebrows. It was already evident when he spoke that he had no fangs whatsoever. He rose to his feet and re-sheathed his sword, trusting that he had next to nothing to fear from the people around him.
"My ship is the NX Challenger from the planet Earth. We have been here before though we were disguised as Mirandans to blend in and learn more about your people. One of my crew was separated from us and severely injured by dark skinned military, after which we believe he was abducted by the Romulans. The rest of us were sheltered by a paleskin clan though we were hunted as well. We managed to escape with the clan and find safe haven in the caves. One of my crewmates could not overcome the vampiric traits that came with our disguise and he attacked me. We arrived in the rain season, approximately four Earth months ago, and I was already ill when he attacked me."
The Vulcan briefly explained that his species was intolerant to humid air and that he was near death when his ship was able to get him back aboard. At that time, Kirk and Wallace had already gone to look for Logan. "When I returned, without my disguise this time, there was no sign of my crewmates and it took me a few days to realise that I had been left behind. I am very certain they will come back for me, and when they do I will ensure that they will help you clear this planet of Romulan presence."
There was a slight commotion at the door, which Saryn ignored. He kept his gaze on the people before him, until he felt he was seized. He wrested away from whoever had grabbed him, hearing Ankar cry in outrage. He was grabbed again and his arms were wrested behind his back, but again he managed to twist away. When he turned, he caught sight of a mask and he frowned, then wondered how the rest of the gathered men would respond. Would they come to their aid, or to his?
His brief hesitation allowed the masked men to seize him again and he unable to tear away again. His vision exploded into bright colours when something hit him hard on the back of his head and he collapsed to his knees. "Ankar," he called, after he regained some of his senses and was hauled back to his feet. He struggled when they started to drag him away but his hands were bound no and he couldn't get at his sword anymore. "Ankar!" he called again, "stop them!"

ooc: you guys forgot about Loken, he's still about somewhere.
~aboard Challenger~
Loken had missed most of the commotion, he'd been resting in his quarters and though he had felt the Challenger being shot at, he didn't take it to be malign. Ships hit storms sometimes, he had read, and he felt this could be a storm.
However, when he woke, dressed himself in the blue uniform that was issued to him, for lack of anything else to wear and exited his quarters, he saw people run through the corridors in a panic. Deciding not to stop the panicking crew, he headed straight for the bridge, but stopped at the lift entrance when he saw it wasn't Kirk in the command chair.
It was then, that he realised something was terribly wrong. Disguising himself, he made for the tactical station, joining an unknown officer there. The officer looked nervous and frightened but didn't say anything when Loken joined him. "Where is the captain?" he whispered, appearing to exchange console information with the young officer.
"Captured," the ensign whispered back, "the entire senior staff is captured, to my knowledge." He nodded towards the command chair. "That's Captain Harper, of the Cougar. He's a traitor."
Loken smiled, briefly baring his fangs. "Ah, lunch hath arriveth," he spoke softly, a malicious smile on his face. He patted the ensign on his shoulder before steppind down to the command center with a board and stylus. "Today's duty roster," he announced as he stood beside Harper.
The captain took the board from him with a surprised look on his face, but turned to read it anyway. Loken leaned in as if to show Harper something specific, then bit down on the Human's throat, savouring the taste of warm blood. He hadn't fed since boarding this ship but he was nearing the time he could no longer postpone it. And what better to feed on, than the enemy? Harper struggled under his grasp, but Loken was far stronger, built to hold down his prey.

-NX-03 Challenger-
Harper tried to cry out but what came out of his mouth was a gargled sound with few spits of blood. He had never thought that he would be eaten alive by a real vampire.
Behind Harper in the back area of the Challenger’s bridge was a MACO soldier from the Cougar. After the initial shock of watching this man bite into his Captain like some sort of mystical create the MACO soldier sprang into action with his weapon at the ready.
“Get off him!” Shouted the MACO soldier.
Loken quickly pulled from his prey and hissed in the MACO soldier’s direction, blood dripping down his chin, his white skin clearly contrasted by the dark color of Harper’s blood. The soldier recoiled in shock but quickly gained his composure as he struck Loken across the face with the butt of his weapon.
Harper pulled away from the vampire, struggling for air as he pressed his hands against the bite holes in his neck. His mind was racing as his body was in shock from the attack, “Medical Emergency on the Bridge.” Harper shouted into the COM system on his chair before collapsing onto the deck of the bridge.
-IRS Cougar-
On board the Cougar the XO watches with a smile on his face as the planet of Miranda comes into view. Behind him in the shadows remains the mysterious figure, his eyes ever present to the people on the bridge.
“Sir, we have arrived at Miranda.” Informed the helmsman.
“Good, put us in orbit above their satellites.”
“Aye sir.”
“Send them a radio message that the Cougar and the Challenger has arrived as planned. The prisoners are to be transferred on time.”
“Aye sir.” Replied the Communications Officer.
It was only a matter of time before this XO was going to be given his own Command and the sooner they left Miranda the sooner he would take command of the Cougar.

~~~~~~~~~~~ Miranda – Army HQ ~~~~~~~~~~~
"My ship is the NX Challenger from the planet Earth. We have been here before though we were disguised as Mirandans to blend in and learn more about your people. One of my crew was separated from us and severely injured by dark skinned military, after which we believe he was abducted by the Romulans. One of my crewmates could not overcome the vampiric traits that came with our disguise and he attacked me. We arrived in the rain season, approximately four Earth months ago, and I was already ill when he attacked me."
General Ankar and his commanders listened intently to the vulcan’s revelations some of the commanders seemed to be swaying towards what Ankar saw in Saryn and that there was a new hope for his people: Endless planets and cultures they could one day interact with, the masked ones had promised much but delivered little but oppression to the mirandan people and this was an alternative.
As Saryn continued there was commotion outside the conference room, the General had ordered the room sealed. The only order that superseded his was that of the mirandan president but Ankar knew that his officers would not have gone down without a fight. Four masked men entered seizing Saryn as the vulcan spoke, Ankar roared at the top of his voice…
“What is the meaning of this? Unhand him at once!”
The masked ones ignored Ankar’s order as Saryn struggled free. This time the masked ones reacted with anger and beat Saryn to the ground. “Ankar!” Saryn screamed repeatedly, “Stop them!” The general paused only for a moment, Saryn was right.
“Guards, seized the masked ones immediately!” There was silence except for the sound of numerous sets of footsteps descending upon them as the squad of 20 strong mirandan officers entered from the adjoining room where Ankar had stationed them. Several Commanders objected, but Ankar stood firm.
“Now, damn it!” Then turning to the Commanders, “If any of you object – you will be joining them in custody.”
As Ankar finished speaking the doors to the conference room were resealed and with the masked ones surrounded they released Saryn with surprising ease. Ankar had expected them to threaten to kill the vulcan but they did not… they just raised their arms in defeat.
(Tag Saryn)
“Line them up, its time to see if there is any truth in what Saryn says… Remove their masks.”
The room remained silent as the soldiers obeyed Ankar and removed the masked ones hoods and masks to reveal pointed ears and a similar greenish-grey complexion to that of Saryn. Ankar walked up to the unmasked vulcans as he perceived them, “They look like Saryn, he is telling the truth.” Ankar drew his pistol in one motion, approaching the closest masked one Ankar pointed his pistol at his chest.
“Tell me what your intentions are for my people?” Ankar demanded,
“I will tell you nothing, you are a fool to resist the Romulan Star Empire.” The unmasked one smiled.
Ankar smiled coldly and shot the first unmasked square in the chest. “Perhaps you three shall be more co-operative.” Ankar affirmed coldly as he stepped over the body and approached the next unmasked one.
Ankar knew that Saryn clearly disapproved of his methods but Ankar was a man of war and this is how he got him answers through torture, it was not pretty but it was effective. Already his fellow Commanders had rallied behind Ankar, the old general shooting their self-appointed overlords seemed to be liberating and clearly the remaining unmasked ones were worried.
“Why did you come here and what are your orders?” Ankar asked pointing his pistol at the head of the next one in line.
“Our orders were to arrest the alien and bring him to the parliament building where he would be tried swiftly and executed. He is here to destroy you can’t you see that, he plans to enslave your people – we are your allies!”
Ankar huffed, he had gotten his answer, he kicked the mirandan and then turned to Saryn and pointed at the unmasked ones. “Why don’t you try? They look like your kinfolk Saryn…”
Ankar handed Saryn his gun, with the vulcan accepting reluctantly as he approached his commanders within the military to formulate their plan to sieze the parliament building and numerous romulan installations across Miranda. Ankar left Saryn in capable hands with the 20 strong squad of soldiers ensuring the unmasked ones had no escape.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IRS Cougar - Brig ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After Andy had been carried away Mike and Jack seemed to sit in silence and stared at one another as they wondered what was happening to their Captain.
“This is some jam we’ve gotten ourselves into this time Jack...”
Jack nodded silently as the security officer outside their cell looked in making sure the two officers were not scheming or attempting escape. Mike caught the guard’s attention…
“It is not too late for you to put this right, help us escape. Do you really want to be considered a traitor on Earth what about your family? You’ll never see them again…”
The guard gave a callous smile in response and shook his head before opening the door, for a moment Mike thought he had struck a chord with the man but he moved only to allow two other security officers to drag Andy back to their cell. Mike and Jack stood up as Andy was tossed back to them by the two officers, he was out cold and unconscious.
Mike and Jack tried to make him as comfortable as possible by laying him down on the floor propped up with the pillows if you could call them that from their makeshift beds.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NX Challnger ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Leth had evaded capture when Challenger was boarded by escaping into a nearby Jefferies tube before the officers from Cougar had taken control of Challenger. By and large they hadn’t entered the tubes so it allowed Leth run over the full the ship, the only issue was that some tubes had sustained massive damage but otherwise he could go where he wanted whenever he wanted without being spotted.
Leth having only just joined Challenger was not very familiar with the Jefferies tube network, it was probably the reason the officers from the Cougar hadn’t entered them. The tube system around Challenger was like a spider’s web in design except with no junctions so to reach a specific deck you would have to use 3 or 4 different tubes.
Leth was approaching the Bridge when he heard the commotion from above, the mirandan – Loken he remembered his name as, seemingly made a lunge for Captain Harper from what he could gather to the point where Harper needed medical attention. Leth smiled, this would be the perfect time to try and take Challenger back… first he would free Loken who was carried to the brig by a MACO.
20 minutes later
Leth made his way down to Deck F, it had taken him longer than expected and he had taken many detours on route. Arriving on Deck F, Leth slipped out of the Jefferies tube and made his way to his Office. Peering in he could see Loken was in holding and only under the watch of a single MACO, without hesitation Leth drew his phase pistol and shot the MACO before releasing Loken. The Mirandan paleskin looked surprised as his captor fell.
“Loken, its Leth. We only met briefly, I’ve been hiding in the Jefferies tubes waiting for a moment to try and retake the ship. This is it Loken, here take this…” Loken handed the mirandan his phase pistol and got a quizzical look in return.
Loken picked up the phase riffle of the nearby MACO as he dragged his body and led Loken to the Jefferies tube. Entering the tube he discarded the body to one side, his pistol was set to kill. So the MACO would not be a problem.
“I know this might be hard for you to take in but if we make our way back to the Bridge we can retake the ship. The bulk of the bridge crew are loyal to Andy and with Harper incapacitated – thanks to your handywork…” Leth pointed to the blood down Loken’s top.
“This is our best shot, what do you think?” Leth thought it best to ask Loken he was only an Ensign afterall and the mirandan’s advice may prove helpful he had gotten the jump on Harper once before.
"My kinfolk, indeed," Saryn murmured as he thrust the pistol back at the nearest person. "I will not require the use of firearms," he explained, not wishing to elaborate on it. Saryn still felt that if he were entrusted with anything other than a phase pistol, it could have dire consequences. He vivdly remembered killing Kirk's predecessor, albeit accidentally because his shot ricocheted off the walls.
There were three men left, standing against the wall and Saryn regarded them closely in turn. Killing them was unnecessary, he thought as he stepped up to the first. "What is the plan of the Romulan goverment with this planet," he asked.
The Romulan remained silent, merely glaring at his opponent. Saryn stepped up closer to him, grabbing the front of his tunic. "I asked you a question, and I expect an answer. You will not want me to extract the information from you because, trust me, it will be painful."
When the Romulan remained silent, Saryn pressed his free hand against the man's face, sending his mind into his opponent's. He met resistance but he forced his way through it, hearing the man scream in agony. What he saw, shocked him to the core and he withdrew himself from the man's mind.
The Vulcan took a step back and allowed the unconscious body to slide to the floor, then stepped up to the next one. "Why are you here," he repeated.
The second Romulan thought the better of it and answered the Vulcan. "My government wants this planet because of it's strategic location," he answered proudly, then jumped as the remaining Romulan slumped to he floor. "He killed himself," the Romulan answered, "as will I." A second later, he too slumped to the floor.
"They were Vulcans, raised as Romulans," Saryn reported, "I saw in his mind the memory of being taken from his home, a Vulcan colony, when he was a child. They are brainwashed into believing we are the enemy." He shook his head in sadness. "And they preferred to kill themselves, rather than being returned to their families. I did not wish for them to die, it was unnecessary."
He turned away from the bodies, motioning for a pair of soldiers to take them away and give them a proper burial. "There is no need for them to be denied their final sacriments," he explained, "they were a worthy opponent, and they deserve to be treated as such. Even though they thought that honour demanded that they should take their own lives."
Saryn returned to his seat at the table. "We should take immediate action against them. Their plan is to take this planet, by force if necessary, and add it to their empire because of its strategic location. Dark and Paleskins should unite against those who use both as slaves to get what they desire. Only by working together, as one force, can you truly beat this enemy."
-IRS COUGAR-
Harper managed to make his way back the bridge of his own ship. The feeling that the Challenger was filled with loyalists to Captain Kirk was something Harper couldn’t handle; there could be another attacker at any of the now treacherous corners aboard the NX Class starship.
“You have done well Captain.” Spoke the mysterious man in the back of the bridge.
“I have only done as you’ve asked.” Harper replied, a hand to his bloodied nose.
“That is enough for my people. We require only loyalty.”
Harper looked away for a split second and when he looked back the mysterious man was gone. Harper smiled his large smile and knew that he and his loyal crew were set for life.
“Sir, Mirandian government on radio.”
“Put it on speaker.”
“Aye sir.”
“Alien ship, this is the Mirandian government, we want what we were promised. We want those aliens involved in the death and destruction of our fellow home worlders. A time and place has been arranged for their delivery and it accompanies this communiqué. Out.”
“Sir, the arrangements are coming through in code.” Announced the communications officer.
“How long will it take to decrypt?” Harper asked.
“Not long sir. This is an ancient style of cipher.”
“Understood.”
Harper began to pace as he always does when he is excited about his situation, “MACO troops, prepare our guests to move.” Harper said into his COM.
“Aye sir.” Was the reply.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Miranda – Army HQ ~~~~~~~~~~~
General Ankar had his back turned as he heard the romulan prisoners had taken their lifes, unsure of what Saryn’s strange interrogation technique he had left the vulcan to try and get more information as he addressed the Commanders. Ankar tapped a button concealed beneath the rim of the table and a light glistened from above and a map of Miranda was projected onto the table. As Ankar found himself discussing options he felt Saryn brush past him and return to the table;
"We should take immediate action against them. Their plan is to take this planet, by force if necessary, and add it to their empire because of its strategic location. Dark and Paleskins should unite against those who use both as slaves to get what they desire. Only by working together, as one force, can you truly beat this enemy." The vulcan concluded.
Ankar nodded mutely, “We appreciate your help and enthusiasm Saryn but it is not so simple.” Ankar exchanged a glance with Brotus. “Distribute arms amongst the population once we have the parliament building secure, we make our stand here! Commanders Augustus, Cassius, Belazerus & Procus take two battalions each and strike these locations…” Ankar pointed to the various mining facilities that the romulans were operating.
“Keep in constant communication over the radio, if you need support request it immediately. If this plan is to work we must strike all these locations simultaneously before they know what has hit them. Commanders Calgar & Rukos assist Brotus with organising the civilians, they will be our last hope let us hope they do not have to be called upon. Commanders Auras and Alva you will strike the Academy of Science and Technology, there is a heightened romulan presence there. Take two battalions of infantry and some heavy artillery.” Ankar paused for breathe.
“Finally, there is the parliament building, the most fortified building of all with a massive romulan prescence. They have even constructed some sort of docking pad for ships to land carrying romulan delegations to and from Miranda. Myself and Saryn will lead four battalions into the building and attempt to infiltrate the building covertly before seizing control. Any romulans you come across should be shot on site!”
“Any questions?” Ankar asked finally, “We strike within the hour, ready your soldiers and get into position.”
(Tag Saryn)
Ankar took a round of questions, concerning the fate of the government and President Istamia. Ankar would take them prisoner and sort out the consequences afterwards. The Commanders moved out to assemble their battalions as Ankar sat down briefly before getting his own battalions ready.
“I hope you are right about this Saryn…”

Ensign Leth led the way back to the Bridge access level, unfortunately for the pair things had now changed since Loken’s attack. Captain Harper was no longer in command and their were at least 3 MACOs assembled on the Bridge. However, there was still some of the Challenger’s original crew but would they come to their aid.
“Loken, things have changed… I don’t know if we can go through with this, there are now three MACOs on the bridge. We have the element of surprise but I’m not sure if we can overpower three of them.” Leth said turning to Loken
As Loken was about to reply the Challenger’s viewscreen flickered to life… Loken pointed as Leth spun around. Captain Harper appeared on the screen with a bandage round his neck, “Prepare the transfer of all prisoners to the surface, we have reached Miranda.”
Loken’s eyes lit up, to the mirandan he was home or so Leth assumed by the facial expression the pale skin had pulled.
“Perhaps we have a chance now, Loken.” Leth surmised as two of the MACOs left the bridge leaving one remaining MACO. “We just need him to turn his back.”
~~~~~~~~~~~ IRS Cougar – Brig ~~~~~~~~~~~
Jack and Mike tried to get some rest, Andy seemed to be toiling in his sleep – but sleep is what he needed, they had tried unsuccessfully to awaken their Captain so had decided to leave him be. Although he seemed to be having some kind of nightmare, Mike thought to himself for just a split second that maybe this state had been induced.
“Jack do you think they did this to him? Not the cuts and bruises but the nightmares?”
Jack shook his head, “He’s probably just having a bad dream, try and get some rest.”
Mike nodded as he leaned back on the bunk and closed his eyes to try and get some sleep, just as he had finally gotten relaxed the familiar bolt noise of the brig door sounded as the security officers entered.
“We’ve just arrived at a place you three know all too well – Miranda! Get up you’re being transported to the surface.” The burly man yelled as his accomplices grabbed the three of them, despite their best efforts they struggled in vain as they were carried to the shuttlepod before being injected with some sort of drug which knocked them unconscious.
“Any questions?” Ankar asked finally, “We strike within the hour, ready your soldiers and get into position.”
"Perhaps my tactical experience may be useful," Saryn offered, "I have served as tactical officer aboard Challenger, before becoming their physician." Saryn had, in all honesty, no idea what exactly was expected of him. He certainly hadn't expected to lead a riot into the building.
“I hope you are right about this Saryn…”
Saryn ignored the doubt in Ankar's voice. "We shall soon find out," he answered, "however I have no doubt that the Romulans are the evil here. My crewmates may be primitive and led by their emotions, but their organisation is one of peace and exploration, and meeting new civilisations."
He paused as he gazed at the weapon which Ankar held out to him. "I do not believe that this is the wisest option," he said, hesitating to take it. In the end, he accepted it after all, resolving not to use it. He checked whether his sword was still smooth in it's sheath, preferring to resort to that than a projectile weapon.
"Shall we, then?" he asked, waiting for Ankar to take the lead. "Please lead the way general, they are your men. You, they trust, not me. I am the alien, to them, possibly even one of the enemy trying to cloud your judgement."
The Vulcan defiantly met Ankar's sharp stare. "I am not doing that," he reassured the old man, "my species does not know how to tell lies. I know not how to lie." He stood tall before the Mirandan. "And if you doubt me, I challenge you to slay me right here and now, because if I have tried to delude you, then I do not deserve to live."
When nothing happened, Saryn relaxed. "Perhaps we should meditate for a while, or loosen our muscles and practice a little fighting. We would wish to be sharp in mind and body before entering combat. I expect the Romulans and the Government will put up quite a fight. Some may surrender willingly, but others will most certainly not. I do not wish to have to kill innocents, it is against my oath as a medic."
~Challenger~ “We just need him to turn his back.”
"Walk out and meet him," Loken suggested, "you provide the distraction and I'll bring him down. I promise I won't kill him, he is just a deluded mind, under the spell of that traitor captain."
He longingly gazed at the image on the screen. "All I want is to go home and help you save your crewmates. And get you your doctor back. I hope he's all right."
He turned his gaze towards the MACO, his eyes filled with bloodlust. "I am still hungry," he confessed. "Go on, distract him, I'll take him down."
~~~~~~~~~~~ Miranda – Army HQ ~~~~~~~~~~~
Saryn attempted to reassure the weary General although Ankar was having second thoughts he knew it was the right thing to do. Ankar rose from the table and headed for the armoury with Saryn in toe, Ankar paused to hand Saryn his pistol, the vulcan protested initially but holstered the gun in his pocket. Ankar knew the vulcan was happier with his sword but a fire fight was a likely scenario.
"Please lead the way general, they are your men. You, they trust, not me. I am the alien, to them, possibly even one of the enemy trying to cloud your judgement." Ankar acknowledged the vulcan’s assessment as he approached battalions 1 & 2 as they were gearing up and getting armaments to prepare for the siege. Ankar had known many of the men from their birth and had served with their fathers, the General received support and approving nods of the head wherever he turned.
"I am not doing that," he reassured the old man, "my species does not know how to tell lies. I know not how to lie." He stood tall before the Mirandan. "And if you doubt me, I challenge you to slay me right here and now, because if I have tried to delude you, then I do not deserve to live."
“I do not doubt you Saryn, I am just thinking to myself about the best way to siege the parliament building. Getting in will be easy it’s the getting out I am worried about.” Ankar retorted
"Perhaps we should meditate for a while, or loosen our muscles and practice a little fighting. We would wish to be sharp in mind and body before entering combat. I expect the Romulans and the Government will put up quite a fight. Some may surrender willingly, but others will most certainly not. I do not wish to have to kill innocents, it is against my oath as a medic." Saryn replied.
“This is not the time for meditation my friend this is time for action, Batallions 1 & 2 move out. We will approach the main entrance but stick to the sides streets until we are ready to mobilise.”
As Ankar finished the battalions of 100 strong men began to move in unison, they were a unit of highly trained infantry and Ankar would place his life in their hands.
“Come on Saryn… lets get moving,” Ankar prompted the vulcan as he grabbed his communicator, to keep apprised of the other Commanders movements.
As they neared the street before the parliament building the two batallions shuddered to a synchronised halt. By this time, Ankar and Saryn had made their way to the front as reports came in from across the teams on Ankar’s walkie.
“Team 1 in place, Team 2… etc.” until all teams were standing by, “Brotus its time to enlist the civilian population, all teams strike now!”
As Ankar finished he charged with his men to the parliament door, the old wooden doors swung open as the guards outside parted ways and allowed the General to pass. Arriving inside, the parliament building was dimly lit and with cross-sections of corridors, it did not look the same as the last time Ankar had entered…
“Saryn, I do not recognise this.” Ankar said as he felt the steel corridors with the Romulan Star Empire insignia embossed everywhere, “What has happened here?”
(Tag Saryn)
“Teams fan out and stay concealed, shoot on sight but mark your targets – shoot to kill. Under no circumstances use lethal force on a fellow mirandan unless it is unavoidable.”
General Ankar pushed forward through the corridor as his soldiers began to split up they were equipped with silenced weapons so he hoped their presence would largely go unnoticed. Suddenly the roof began to shake and the sky thundered as something seemed to rain down upon the building before there was a clunking noise and the shaking subsided.
“What was that?” Ankar said turning to Saryn none of this made sense to him!

~~~~~~~~~~~ IRS Cougar – Shuttlepod to Miranda… ~~~~~~~~~~~
As Mike, Andy and Jack were bundled into the shuttlepod they lay unconscious with no idea what was happening. Captain Harper would communicate with the mirandan government from the Bridge of the Cougar. Although two officers from Cougar had been assigned guard duty of the prisoners and to oversee their handover to the mirandans.
The descent into Miranda’s upper atmosphere was a bumpy ride which no-one enjoyed even being unconscious had not spared them from a few bumps and bruises.
Suddenly the shaking stopped as the pod subtlety glided towards the landing bay situated atop of the mirandan parliament building. Then there was the sounds of docking clamps as the pod was secured in place and the door opened.
The descent and the noise of the docking procedure had knocked Mike and Andy into consciousness, they both exchanged a glance knowing that if they spoke their captors would know they were conscious and they may lose the element of surprise.
(Tag Andy)
The doors to the pod swung open and the officers from Cougar stepped out. “Captain Harper sends those responsible for harming your kinfolk and undermining your government.”
“Very good, the Captain has done well.” A cloaked figure responded, “Guards seize the prisoners and have them placed in holding – their trial begins in earnest.”
As the mirandan civilian guard entered the shuttlepod they swung each man over their shoulders and began to carry them. Mike and Andy were just waiting for their opportunity to break free and escape.
“Be careful with them, the poison may be wearing off!” the hooded figure added as they were carried away.
"Walk out and meet him," Loken suggested, "you provide the distraction and I'll bring him down. I promise I won't kill him, he is just a deluded mind, under the spell of that traitor captain."
Ensign Leth and Loken had been discussing the situation for about a minute and the mirandan was right if Leth provided the distraction, Loken could get the better of the MACO. Leth nodded as he heard Loken mutter something about his home and Saryn. "I am still hungry," Loken confessed. "Go on, distract him, I'll take him down."
Leth turned to the mirandan smiling, “Okay but don’t mess up the carpet.”
Leth jumped out of the access hatch onto the Challenger’s main bridge. “Hey you… over here!” Leth called as the MACO spun round pointing his phase riffle at Leth.
“Who are you?” The man yelled, “Raise your arms in the air.” As Leth raised his arms, Loken jumped upon the man and bit into his neck, Leth had no intention of stopping the mirandan as he rushed to the communications console manned by a young Ensign loyal to Captain Kirk.
“I need you to send an encrypted distress call, say that Captain Harper is a traitor – Cougar in Romulan hands and Captain Kirk on Miranda. Request assistance immediately and make sure its on a frequency Cougar cannot detect.”
The young Ensign before Leth was shellshocked, “I cannot guarantee that they wont detect it!”
“Do your best.” Leth answered as he distributed weapons from the nearby weapons locker situated on the Bridge. Loken was still feasting on the MACO and although he found it disturbing Leth did not wish to tell the mirandan to stop.
“We have the Bridge, what are the status of weapons and shields and I want you to locate Captain Kirk,” Leth barked out instructions as he sat in the command chair.
Saryn walked around the dimly lit corridors, peering into empty and dark rooms on occasion. He had his sword gripped tightly in both hands, the blade resting lightly against his left shoulder, ready to strike. "This building seems deserted," he answered Ankar, "but looks can be deceiving. I am certain the Romulans are hidden somewhere, using the president as leverage, no doubt."
The two men froze when the building shuddered and Saryn cringed involuntarily as the noise assaulted his sensitive ears. The Vulcan tried to listen and identify the sounds and it took him several minutes to realise what was going on. "That was a shuttlecraft docking," he spoke up after a long silence, "that means we can now be under siege from both the roof and the street. In other words, we are trapped."
Saryn glanced up at Ankar. "Our men should leave the building at once, while you and I, along with a few volunteers will go see what is happening on the roof." At Ankar's nod, Saryn turned to the men and requested that five volunteers step forward. Surprisingly, the entire company stepped forward as one.
"We are here to fight," Sergeant Maddan said, raising his pistol in a salute. "And fight we will, to the last man. These greenskins occupy and raid our planet, as you told us. We shan't sit by and let them take what they want."
Saryn glanced down at the tiny paleskin sergeant, surprised to even find a paleskin in his company. "Very well. Ankar and I shall take the lead, but some of you will have to stay and guard our way."
Immediately, the group split up in two again, half staying behind and half going with Saryn and Ankar. They had barely entered an adjacent corridor when five masked men and women sprang from the shadows, ambushing the small company. Saryn saw his vision go white and then black as one of them fired at him, the projectile raking hotly past his temple from close range. In reflex, Saryn swung his sword and decapitated the woman, spraying himself with her green blood.
He leaned against the wall for a few seconds, acknowledging the pain and then attempted to dismiss it. As it faded to a dull headache, he pressed on, flanked by two Mirandan soldiers. On their way many more masked ones, and even dark-skinned and pale-skinned Mirandans poured from the shadows, attacking them at will. By the time they reached the roof, the company was nearing exhaustion, several of them had been killed by the enemy and Saryn was starting to wonder what they would see on the roof.
Led by Ankar, the Mirandans and Saryn finally climbed the steps that would lead to the roof. Surprisingly, there were no attackers on their way, which Saryn also found disturbing. As they stepped onto the roof, Saryn stared at the shuttlepod. He didn't recognise it per sé, but it definitely didn't match the gloominess of the masked ones. But it wasn't a Challenger pod either.
He whirled around as someone grabbed his shoulder, pressing the person against the wall of the stairhouse, the sword blade at his throat. He blinked as he saw the person wearing a blue jumpsuit with yellow markings. Embarassed, he stepped back, lowering the blade. "Greetings captain," he said, "I am gratified to see you again." Taking in Kirk's shocked expression, Saryn actually smiled. "Not all of this blood is mine," he tried to reassure his commanding officer.
As he saw Kirk's eyes widen, Saryn turned and just saw a black blur coming at them, the glint of metal catching the sunlight. He raised his sword to block the attacker and protect the captain, but the attacker had come under his defenses. The masked one's dagger cut deeply across his ribs, before Ankar came to the rescue and shot the masked one.
Gasping, Saryn tried to straighten himself and succeeded after several attempts. Tossing Kirk the dead man's dagger and pistol, he encouraged the Human to join the fight.
After several minutes, the fighting was over, leaving half of Ankar's company alive and/or injured and all of the masked ones either severely injured or dead. Saryn limped back to Kirk and then spotted Wallace, who was wearing commander's bars. "General Ankar, meet my commanding officer, Captain Andrew Kirk. The male beside him is Commander Michael Wallace, chief engineer."
He could see that Ankar finally completely trusted him, now that he saw that he had spoken the truth all along. "Captain, did you bring Loken with you? His clan are anxiously awaiting his return. And I need to get back to Numike, I promised her I would come back, alive."
Kirk could tell that his body was still feeling the effects of the poison they had been given before their trip down to the planet. Proof of that was in his slowed reaction to Saryn and his blade. In his mind it all happened to fast for him to even process the fast actions going on around him.
Kirk could feel the weight of the pistol but what the realization that he was now an armed man hadn’t entered his mind. To him and his confused mind it felt like a large paperweight with an interesting pistol like shape. The dagger on the other hand was able to penetrate the fog; he knew exactly what this was for.
Blurry shapes passed before Kirk’s eyes, he could hear his heavy panicked breathing over the sounds of battle. Kirk tried to stay out of the way, backing up against a wall. It didn’t seem to help, Kirk felt a hand grab him by the front of his duty uniform and by the time Kirk managed to lock onto the person grabbing him all he could see was the gleam of shiny metal in the sunlight. It was a weapon!
Instinctively Kirk thrust the dagger into the figure, a scream erupted from this figure as it fell to the ground. Kirk’s heart was racing, his blood pumping and with that adrenaline was flowing through his body, clearing out the fog that had occupied his mind.
The scene became clear in front of him, there was a battle raging and Kirk was smack dab in the middle of it. He saw Saryn moving through the crowd, hacking and slicing with such aggression that Kirk would have swore up and down that Saryn wasn’t Vulcan.
The battle lasted only several minutes but for Kirk those were the longest and stressful handful of minutes he had ever lived through. Life or death could come at any second, or through any mistake one made in the chaos of battle.
Saryn limped back to Kirk and Wallace, "General Ankar, meet my commanding officer, Captain Andrew Kirk. The male beside him is Commander Michael Wallace, chief engineer."
"Captain, did you bring Loken with you? His clan are anxiously awaiting his return. And I need to get back to Numike, I promised her I would come back, alive."
“No,” Kirk had to admit, “I don’t know where Loken is. The last time I saw Loken was back on my ship before we were attacked.”
All Kirk wanted to do was stay on this adrenaline high and charge off to retake his ship but he knew they needed rest and food and Saryn needed medical attention before they could do that.
Saryn's appearance had come as a pleasant surprise to Jack Logan, the communications officer of the NX Challenger. The fact that Saryn had been left on Miranda was partially his fault. Had he not been captured by the enemy, they would have never been separated. Now that they were all back together it was time to leave the planet for good.
"We need to get out of here," Jack said joining the group," were not exactly in the best defensive position. Saryn it's good to see you again."
(Saryn)
Without any objections the group gathered their wounded and dead. Jack didn't know the cultural importance of death to the Mirandians, but he was sure that this was going to be a long night.
OOC: Sorry about not being around. I'll be better, I promise
Saryn inclined his head towards the communications chief. "It is agreeable to see you again as well commander," he answered. He had sat down and rubbed his leg; somewhere during the fight, before Kirk and crew had turned up, apparently someone had managed to shoot him in the leg. He had felt the pain, but until now he hadn't actually seen the injury.
"Doctor?" Saryn looked up to see the young infantery doctor gaze down on him, a concerned look creasing his brows.
"Yes Mathis, what can I do for you?"
"It is more a question of what I can do for you," the young doctor answered. He held up a cloth soaked in an iodine solution. "Your injuries need to be cleaned and you need rest. I am certain you're suffering from a concussion in some form, and you're still bleeding."
Saryn followed Mathis' gaze towards his torn tunic. "Indeed," he confirmed, "you may proceed as soon as we..." He inhaled sharply as he felt something stab into his upper arm.
Rolling his eyes at Kirk and Logan, Mathis caught the older man and lowered him to the ground. "He'll wake up again in a few minutes," he reassured both men, "I just don't want him arguing with me while I tend to his wounds."
The young Mirandan stripped the Vulcan of his tunic and deftly cleaned out the deep cut across his ribs. "He was lucky the alien made a cut motion rather than a stab one," he observed, "and I'm surprised he managed to carry on as long as he did. He's truly alien, isn't he?" He tore the tunic into strips and made them into a tight bandage. The remainder, he wrapped around Saryn's head.
"General Ankar, where are his own clothes?" Mathis asked, turning around to face his boss. Ankar motioned one of the low-ranked solders to come forward. "Ah thank you. He'll be cold otherwise. Now, the leg injury. I don't have the equipment I need but perhaps this Doctor Tigis he mentioned earlier might have."
He backed away when Saryn stirred, but moved in to help the Vulcan sit up. "I'm sorry I had to do that," he apologised, "but you'll be all right now. I've desinfected the wounds, but that's all I can do for now. You, however, might want to see to your friends? They look a little weary and cross-eyed."
Saryn rose to his feet, supported by both Ankar and Mathis. "You were drugged," he observed, "but the adrenalin seems to have cleared your systems, which is good." He nodded in thanks to Mathis when the young doctor offered him his sword back. He put it away with great reverence. "We should return to the clan, and I believe we might use this shuttle. Perhaps General Ankar and his men can help us retake our ship, now that we have driven the Romulans out for them?"
~ later ~
Saryn was almost knocked over when a small blur came at him at high speed. "You came back!" Numike shrieked, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Of course I did," Saryn replied, "I promised, did I not?" He waved at Vespis and Tigis, then clasped hands with Somon. "Your gift has saved my life," he said, "and that of many others. I am grateful."
"The debt is repaid," Somon said solemnly, "and I'm glad you came back. We'd almost come after you when you disappeared like that." He glanced sideways at Kirk. "So you've come back after all this time. He made quite a name for himself, and he settled in well, even though he's not of our blood."
Somon cast the humans a toothy grin, baring his fangs. "Our clan says his blood tastes good though, and many of us had a taste." The paleskinned Mirandan then grabbed Saryn's left hand, showing the humans the tiny puncture marks. "And I see the girl has as well. She marked him."
"In fear," Saryn countered, "she had no such intention. She was frightened and I was attempting to protect her."
Somon's smile brightened. "You'll grow into your fangs yet Saryn, you bite well." He turned to Ankar, who had joined them as well. "So, I hear we're preparing for a space fight? Are we up to this?"
"We must retake our ship," Saryn explained, "or many more might yet lose their lives." He gestured to the now visibly pregnant Vespis. "She has only three months to go, as Mirandan pregancies only last six months. And this clan harbours many women and small children. We must keep them safe from the Romulans."
~~~~ Miranda - Parlaiment Building ~~~~
The firefight was intense, Ankar lost his barings during the battle it had been many years since the weary General had fought in an actual battle. Not since the separatists rebellion threatened to overthrow the current Mirandan system of government decades earlier. Ankar drew his pistol and released the safety in one swift motion, firing at romulans as they flew towards him. They seemed to move with eerie speed and Ankar watched as the men to his right and left flank were mowed down, the General could not stop.
Shooting his way through any resistance, Ankar felt Saryn’s sweeping sword swing pass him on several occasions killing a concealed foe or anyone who got too close. General Ankar found himself out of ammo as he charged at the remaining romulan who stood before him, the romulan fired some sort of weapon but Ankar evaded the burst with the vigour and dexterirty of a man half his age. Sweeping his fists towards the romulan he connected with the masked one’s face and proceeded to punch the romulan until he no longer showed life.
Standing up as he dusted himself off, as if he had touched something unclean. His uniform was covered in green blood, the General had a look of distaste - the uniform was clean on that morning! General Ankar surveyed the damage, there were some minor injuries but also some casualties. He paused for a moment in remembrance of his fallen comrades as Saryn called to him.
"General Ankar, meet my commanding officer, Captain Andrew Kirk. The male beside him is Commander Michael Wallace, chief engineer."
Ankar offered his outstretched hands to his new allies and they firmly accepted before Ankar had the chance to speak he heard another of Saryn’s crew.
"We need to get out of here," Jack said joining the group," were not exactly in the best defensive position. Saryn it's good to see you again."
Ankar nodded towards his men, who began to gather their dead and prepare the injured for being moved. Before addressing the group;
“We have fought well today, mirandans, vulcans and humans that is what I believed Saryn called your species...” With a nod from Saryn
Ankar continued “There is still much to do, those who can fight must accompany me, by now the government officers know we are here. We must fight our way to the government chamber and sieze President Istamia before he can cause division amongst our people.”
Ankar looked around at the men who surrounded him. Before Saryn could speak he was carried away with the injured by a young medic with Andy, Jack and Mike showing concern the medic reassured them.
“You are welcome to join us, but we must press on.”
As Ankar led his men through to the government chamber it was deserted, there was no sign of civilization and not even President Istamia. “Where have they gone…?” Ankar mused as he called for his men to move out and returned to the roof, after returning Saryn had regained consciousness and suggested they use the shuttle to return to the clan. General Ankar was suspicious but Saryn had not led him astray yet so he followed the vulcan’s lead
~~~~ Later ~~~~
After the shuttlepod journey, which Ankar found to be most uncomfortable the group arrived at the paleskin clans caves. As they arrived Saryn was embraced by the paleskins, Ankar’s personal guards were uneasy around the paleskins and glared on occasion often touching their weapons to show they were prepared. Ankar was on edge too but he trusted the Vulcan, he sensed some good in him.
Ankar was observing the paleskin’s behavior towards Saryn and he was surprised by their acceptance of an outsider. The General was approached by one of the paleskins who called himself Somon seemingly the alpha male of the group.
Somon turned to Ankar, who had joined them as well. "So, I hear we're preparing for a space fight? Are we up to this?"
Ankar breathed heavily, “We have the numbers advantage but from what Saryn has told me we need to unite all the clans and paleskin with darkskin if we are to stand any chance. With the humans and Saryn, our chances are increased greatly. Now about getting you back to your ship, couldn’t you use that shuttlepod and fly into space and dock with your ship?”
Admittedly Ankar knew little of their technology but suggested it nevertheless. He then stopped to ponder what to do to protect the women, children and elderly.
“The safest place for the women, children and elderly both paleskin and darkskin would be the caves. The networks are endless at least if we fail they may have a chance to live on in the caves.”
“Now about getting you back to your ship, couldn’t you use that shuttlepod and fly into space and dock with your ship?”
“It’s not as simple as that,” Kirk said from his sitting position, “Captain Harper still has control over our ship.”
“I have heard that name before.” Ankar said to himself as if he couldn’t remember from where he had heard it.
“What is the situation up there?” Saryn asked bluntly.
“Last we knew both the Challenger and the Cougar and were in a high orbit over the planet with at least one or two Romulan ship lurking about.” Kirk added.
“Has anybody seen Ensign Leth?” Jack asked.
The name hadn’t struck a cord with anybody in the crowd and it didn’t surprise Kirk. Leth was a new officer and even if they had run into him Saryn had no idea what he looked like.
“I ask because he could still be on Challenger. If we can send radio signals in the form of Morse Code Leth might be able to organize some sort of resistance.” Jack added.
“That’s a good idea,” Kirk said getting to his feet, “Do you have any radio equipment we could use?” Kirk asked.
NX-03 Challenger
Engineering Crewman Marcy “Mar” Roberts sat with her close friends in the cargo hold of her ship. The situation was starting to get bleak, they had been held in the cargo hold for several days with out food, water, or bathroom facilities. The foul odor lingered in the cargo hold despite the ship wide environmental system still being used at full capacity.
“Jim,” Marcy said to her sleeping friend next to her, “We need to make a break for it.”
“And go where?” Jim said as he shaded his eyes from the lights above them.
“We need to try and retake the ship. Look around people are starting to get sick and soon we wont have enough strength to fight. If there was a time to act it’s now.”
Jim sat up and from his position he was starting to see the exponential degradation of the crew. Some of the crew members had lost a noticeable amount of weight, and Jim had to admit his duty uniform was a bit loose on him.
“They’ll listen to you.” Marcy urged to her friend.
Jim was never a guy to take action, he was a scientist and that’s how he was able to avoid the weapons training all officers had to go through before boarding a ship. He preferred to wait for the Calvary to come in and save the day rather than being the guy who did it. Marcy on the other hand was a born leader; she was the take-charge kind of woman who fought hard for what she believed in. She however was in the unfortunate position of being a low ranking enlisted engineer.
“C’mon.” Marcy shook Jim to try and push him to take charge, “You’re the only officer I’ve seen in here.”
“All right.” Jim said in an annoyed tone. He took his time to stand up and straighten his uniform before calling for attention, “My fellow crewmembers, it has been pointed out to me that this is the time for action.”
Slowly Marcy crept away from Jim and his less than passionate speech. She hadn’t gotten far before a handful of her fellow engineers began to crowd around her at one of the door that lead out of the cargo hold.
“Roberts, what’s going on?” Asked a Petty Officer.
“We need to get out of here, retake the ship.” Marcy replied.
“What about the Lieutenant?”
“Listen to him,” Marcy said in a sickened tone, “Does he sound like a man you want to follow into battle?”
She hated saying it but it was true. She really likes her friend Jim but he had no backbone and the speech he was giving had no passion once so ever, he was simply doing it to appease Marcy.
“Hand me that.” Marcy said pointing to a rather large blunt object.
The engineer struck the door console several times as hard as she could before it finally gave way exposing the wires behind it. Just as she had broken off the cover another engineer stepped up, Marcy recognized him as an electrical specialist. She let the specialist do his work and before long the door locks popped and the door slide open freely.
“Round up all the engineers, and security personnel.” Marcy ordered.
Despite her rank the other higher-ranking enlisted personnel followed her every word. They could see real leadership in her and there was no need for a fight over petty issues like rank in time of life or death.
It didn’t take long for the group to come back with twenty men and women and by that time Marcy was now wearing the rank of a Chief Petty Officer. It had been given to her by one of the enlisted men who thought it would prevent a power struggle from taking place.
“Lets go.”
"Who is this Ensign Leth you keep mentioning?" Saryn asked, raising an eyebrow, "is he part of the crew?"
"Tactical officer," Logan replied non-committingly, while scavenging around for anything that could be used as a radio.
"There is no technology here," Saryn said, "though I do have my PDA and phaser. I fear both are drained of energy, both from use and the humidity in the rain season."
Numike tugged at his hand. "There's the stream in the mountains," she whispered when he lowered down to her level, "there's a building there. I was never supposed to go there but me and my friends sometimes snuck over to play. There's strange stuff up there."
"Like what?" Saryn whispered back.
"Funny, like the blinking things you used when you first came. Could it help?"
Saryn rose to his feet. "Numike mentioned a building in the mountains near a stream. Could be a powerplant? I have not ventured to the other side of these caves."
A little later, a small group comprised of the Challenger senior staff, Ankar and a few of his men and Numike stood at the foot of the mountain. "Captain, general, we may have a problem," Saryn started, gazing up at the mountain and it's height. The top was covered with what looked to be snow, and since it was getting into the cooler season, Saryn felt it may well be snow.
Numike's cry of joy at seeing the white substance confirmed his suspicions. "I cannot go up there." Saryn had never told anyone he wasn't too keen on heights but at least now he had a different excuse. "It will be cold up there and there appears to be snow. I have open wounds and Vulcans are not built for cold environments. The cold up there will be the death of me."
He did look as though he had wanted to join them, and he had really wanted to, would've braved vertigo, but the cold was one thing he wouldn't be able to survive. Not without proper arctic dress. "Numike, will you lead them without me?"
The girl looked startled but nodded.
"General Ankar, I place Numike in your care for the duration of your trip. You are responsible for her safety." It was a matter of trust, and Saryn could see Ankar understood.
Challenger
Marcy crept through the bowels of Challenger, stopping only when she heard footsteps walking by the air ventilation openings at the foot off the corridors. She knew the entire staff wasn’t locked away in the cargo hold but a good portion of the non-essential personnel was, this included her and the other technicians that had followed her in their break out.
“How much further?” Marcy heard from behind her in hushed tones.
The whispered voice was quickly answered by another whispered voice and all fell silent again. The person who responded to the whispered question March didn’t know but his answer was quick and it sounded good, the truth was that Marcy was starting to get lost in these tube ways. She had crawled through these before but never for this length of time. She could feel sweat building on her brow as her heart raced with fear that they might be going around in circles.
Miranda
Kirk listened to Saryn as he eyed the peak of the mountain. That was one steep hill, Kirk thought as he stood with his officers and the soldiers that rescued them from certain death.
“If we’re going to go we’d better get going before it gets dark.” Kirk finally said during the lull in the conversation. He’d hoped that his bravado would be enough to stir up the troops and get the General and his men moving so they could lead the way.
“Take these.” Saryn said handing Kirk, Jack, and Mike several large blanket like objects with belts. This was to be their survival gear for the long, cold hike up the hill.
“Thanks.” Kirk replied.
“Do not do anything foolish Captain,” Saryn stated in his Vulcan manner, “If your trip should prove to be futile you must return.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Kirk said as he tossed the blanket and belt over his shoulder.
Challenger’s Bridge
Challenger’s junior communications officer sat at his station with long drooping eyes. He hadn’t had a break in days, his facial hair had grown well past an acceptable length and his body was starting to stink from his own sweat. He felt weak even though he was sitting; food had been scarce on the bridge and what had come went first to the Cougar’s crewmembers while scraps were fed to the Challenger’s officers.
A flashing light lit up his officer’s console. At first he didn’t even notice the light through his own personal mental fog but after just a few moments the light registered in his brain and he slowly moved to check on it.
The man was acting more or less like a robot, his movements with out energy or excitement, he lived only to work for the small amount of food he was given, he worked to stay alive.
He had remembered that he followed Star Fleet code by turning off the auditory signal when incoming transmissions came to the ship; the flashing light was the only indication that a message had come. Lucky enough for him his body had blocked the light and he was free to read the message.
Challenger,
Hold tight. ETA 2 hours.
Enterprise
The officers face cracked a warm smile, help was on the way and it was only a matter of hours before Enterprise and her fleet came to their rescue.
Leth sat in the command chair with his hands holding his head up, he was waiting for any form of news, as well as trying to figure out what else he could do. A few moments ago he had ordered one of the stations to monitor the places that Leth knew where holding members of the crew. "Any news?" he asked, just hoping that someone would answer him. "Yes sir, we just received a message from the Enterprise, ETA 2 hours." Leth's face lit up for a quick second as sat upright. Taking a few seconds to think, he got up and looked over the progress of the a few of the stations. "Shields are down, but we can have 40% as soon as we engage them." he moved to the next one, and then kept moving after getting a verbal report. "Ok, listen up. We need to get more officers, we need to help them escape and we need to find the captain." "Sir!" Leth heard a younger junior officer call out to him. "It looks like we may have some friends on the move. The cargo hold is empty, a few engineers were being held there." Leth moved over to the junior officer's side. "Do you know where they are?" Leth asked, as the officer scanned the ships life signs. "Sir, they appear to be in the jefferies tubes, deck 7." Leth turned towards the crew on the bridge. "Get someone in those tubes and bring those people to me"
Leth had noticed that Loken had finished his "meal" and was standing over the MACO's body, blood still dripping from his chin. "Leth, what do you plan on doing with them once they get here?" Leth stopped for a moment, "the only thing we can do, help the others escape, and take back the challenger."
With the entire senior crew back together, Jack was back to his old self. Even though they were all facing immediate demise by the hand of the enemy, Jack was able to smile at thier situation. They had in fact gotten through worse situations before. Jack also knew that help would arrive shortly. If his calculations were right, the Enterprise and Atlantis would be arriving in less than two hours. Pretty soon they would detect the Romulan ships in orbit and begin firing at will.
"Captain, our friends should be arriving soon," Jack said realizing that he had never informed Andy about his actions before they had arrived," Enterprise, Atlantis and a few other ships should be arriving shortly."
(Andy)
"I'm going to try and assemble a long range radio, Harper hasn't had the time to completely change all of our command codes," Jack said with a mischievoius smile. He had long prepared for a situation just like this and with a simple command he would be able to cripple the Challenger. "When this is done, remind me to never trust no one."
