Sharon looked up at the Doctor as he took a seat across from her.
"Care for something to eat?" She asked.
Saryn shook his head no, he looked like a man on a mission, Sharon thought about it and finished her dinner, she sat her plate to the side and sat forward steep ling her fingers on the table.
'OK, you want to get back down there, why?" Sharon asked.
He went back over his findings about the bones, science was not her best area but what he was saying no matter how wild it seemed, made sense.
"The Captain and the first Officer are still down there, I have a feeling if we are to return down there we need to go armed." Sharon suggested.
They got up and headed out of the mess hall, Sharon stopped by the comm-panel and tapped it.
"Ensign Wolf to shuttle bay, could I get a shuttle pod prepped and ready to go as soon as possible?" Sharon asked.
"There is one ready, just have to get it into position, please give us ten minutes." Came the voice.
"OK shuttle bay." Sharon said.
They headed to the armory and Lieutenant Gaines was on duty, he was a friend.
"Tom." Sharon said.
"Hey Sharon, glad that you made it through the academy, what can I do for you?" He asked.
"I need two weapons and two communicators, please." Sharon said.
He got them out of their chargers and handed them over, Sharon had to sign for them and handed one to the Doctor, he took it reluctantly but took it anyway and a communicator, they left and stopped by each others quarters to get their off ship jackets, Sharon had been replaced since the other she had torn to make a blindfold, she still had the blindfold and stuffed it into a pocket while slipping on the jacket.
They entered the shuttle bay and a pod was waiting on them, they entered. Sharon took the pilots seat and went through the power up of the systems and they left the ship.
"I brought something with me, good thing I hung onto it, I have the blindfold, so if you need it going either way on the stairs, you will have to trust me again." Sharon said with a smile.

Saryn nodded in silence, the woman was doing enough talking for the both if them indeed. He holstered the phase pistol, already determined not to use it unless he absolutely needed to. Checking his equipment, he settled himself in the seat next to Sharon, having no other choice now as two were needed to fly a pod.
"Initiate dropping sequence," he suggested; he couldn't very well order her as he wasn't starfleet. He sat in further silence, letting her do her job as she piloted the shuttle down to Mars. He watched their descent, having no alternative to look at and paled a little. However, he gave no other outward sign of his fears.
A little later, the two stood at the entrance of the cave again. "That way," the Vulcan spoke, pointing as he glanced up from his scanner. "I have uploaded my analysis into this PDA and it is correlating my findings with further data here on the planet. I need more data before I can reach anything conclusive."
Unfortunately, they had to descent another long flight of stairs, which faced a deep ravine on either side of the nearest platform. "I trust you," he told the female ensign next to him, allowing her to blindfold him once again, holding on to her arm for guidance. He would have to trust her indeed for his response time would be slowed due to the fact that he couldn't see right now. If something was wrong, he needed her to react first.
Slowly but steadily, they made their descent and finally when he could see again, Saryn started looking around. "I may need your assistance," he informed Sharon, looking back up at her. "We are looking for disturbed soil, but such that it may not look disturbed at first sight. Use your PDA to scan for Human remains."

Once they landed on Mars they made their way to the cave, Sharon had to wonder where the Captain and the Communications Officer was, she was sure they would have awakened by now.
They entered the cave and found the stairs, Sharon put the blindfold around his eyes, then allowed him to slip his arm in her, she flinched when his arm brushed a certain place and noticed his reaction to her flinch.
"It's OK Doctor, maybe sometime in the future I may tell you a little about myself." Sharon said.
Sharon, had never had time for a boyfriend, she always had her head buried in a book, or looking at star charts her father Mike brought home to her. Her mom and Dad were not that strict on her about boyfriends, she chose not to give up anytime for one. She preferred to study then any real life.
They slowly made it down the steps to the landing, the same place where they were before. Sharon removed Saryn's blindfold and stuffed it back into her jacket pocket, she pulled out her phase pistol.
"Doctor, if you don't mind, I would like to take a look around, yes I know you do not have a rank but I consider you my superior officer, plus I would prefer to tell you then not out of respect for you." Sharon said.
Sharon nodded to the doctor and took a walk, she found a room that once had been used for God knows what, it had been cleared out, she looked at the papers left, and found one thing that caught her eye, it was from a Admiral to the commander here about the scientists and their findings of the bones. Sharon gathered the papers together and slipped them into a inside pocket.
Sharon heard the Captain and the Communications Officer talking to the Doctor outside, Sharon moved quietly out of the room and around to the edge of a corner where she could see them, she slipped behind a rock and looked over, both the Captain and FCommunications Officer were armed but the first Officer had made the mistake of getting in reaching distance of the Doctor. Sharon took careful aim and checked the setting on her pistol it was set to full stun, she fired at the Captain he hit the floor.

Saryn waved her off, too busy taking notes in regards to his newest find. Had he been human, he would've been estatic but as Vulcan he would not express any outward emotion. Grim-faced, he dug around the disturbed soil, carefully brushing it away, eventually revealing bones, darkened with age. "Curious," he murmured as he scanned the remains.
He sat back, comparing the new readings with the previous ones. "Interesting," he continued, carrying on the monologue with himself. The new find was younger than the first, but still interesting on its own.
The Vulcan turned on his heels as he heard footsteps behind him. "Sharon, I-" he broke off as he looked right up the barrel of Logan's phase pistol. "Commander, a surprise to find you here..." He looked around but there was no sign if the pilot, thus he assumed she was safe for now. "Captain, I-"
A wave of the weapon silenced him immediately, as he had no desire to get shot. Leaving his equipment, he rose to his feet, though he had managed to hide the PDA in his tunic before turning. He raised his hands, slowly and non-threatening, fully prepared to surrender. However, just as he moved an orange beam struck the captain from behind.
Changing his stance, Saryn reached for Logan who was standing close by. Yet, the communications chief danced away from his searching fingers and he missed the spot on Logan's neck to apply a nerve pinch. As the chief was distracted, Saryn grabbed his medical bag and ran off at his best possible speed. "Sharon!" he called, "leave, now!" He wanted her out of here; he could handle Logan, but he was trapped now that he was separated from her. For him, without her assistance, there was no way out and there was no time for that.

Sharon was already thinking and had pulled out her Communicator and turned it on.
"Ensign Wolf to Challenger lock onto Commander Logan and Beam him and the captain laying a foot from him directly to the brig, they are both armed and dangerous." Sharon said.
There was two beams of light and she saw the look on the Communications officers face as he disappeared. Sharon moved out of hiding and caught up with Saryn but she tripped on a rock falling, she felt a tearing pain in her lower right leg, she let out a scream that would curdle milk. Saryn went right to her side.
"Doctor, I think I just tore my Achilles tendon, I felt the pop like a rubber band." Sharon said.
Sharon tried moving the foot, it basically hung there, she shook her head. "I'M a idiot, I should have been more careful of where I was going."
Sharon knew there was no way he could go back up the steps, and she could not even walk, which did not help matters one bit. She started laughing and at his look she stopped.
"If it wasn't for your fear of heights, I would almost suggest carrying me up the steps." Sharon said.

"Unfortunately, that is not an option," Saryn responded as he pulled off her boot as carefully as possible. "My balance is already compromised when you blindfold me, we do not wish to add to that hazard." His hands were cool on her skin as he gently probed her injury, ignoring the twitches of her foot as he apparently did hurt her.
"You are correct, the tendon is torn," he acknowledged, then proceeded to tear his own tunic into strips, tucking the PDA safely into his boot, before pulling his jacket back on. "This may hurt, for that I apologise," he added as he started to tightly wrap her foot into the torn strips of fabric. "Once we get back to Challenger, I may need to cast it. For now, keep your weight off it. You may lean on me if we need to walk. However, you do need to get to the shuttle."
He saw her eyes widen as he sat back. While he was busy seeing to her injury, he never noticed the two columns of light reappearing, coalescing in the forms of Kirk and Logan as their transporter inhibitors kicked in, bouncing the teleport back towards Mars to their original position. Kirk was still unconscious, but Logan was quite vivid with anger. "What is it?" he started to ask, just as Logan brought his right arm down, smashing his weapon to the side of Saryn's skull.
Saryn blinked in surprise, trying to shake off the feeling of dizziness, before his system realised something was out of the ordinary and he collapsed in Logan's arms. He wasn't unconscious, but it wasn't far off. "Run," he managed to whisper at Sharon, fighting against the looming darkness that danced at the edge of his vision. As long as Logan had him to deal with, Saryn was certain he couldn't go after the girl.
He struggled, trying to get back to his feet, but Logan's hold on him was strong. "Jack, please.." he started, trying to appeal to the chief's sense of duty.
<uhm jack, ball's in your court. sharon...no quickfix rescue, lets give them some fun eh.......get out of there and get creative soon enough on a rescue if/when needed.....>

Post by Andrew Kirk on May 8, 2008 0:20:41 GMT
For the second time that day Kirk had found himself face down in the red Martian dirt. This has got to stop, Kirk said to himself as he rose back to his feet. As he stool at his full height he felt shots of pain racing from the small of his back all the way through his body. It wasn’t every day he was shot in the back but from what he could remember of the other times that phaser had a little more kick then a typical phase pistol.
“Agent, get up.” Kirk heard but when he looked around he couldn’t see anybody, “Get up!” the voice repeated louder.
“Where are you?” Kirk whispered.
“I’m not there, I’m in the escape section of the tunnels. It’s heavily built and doesn’t show up on any of Starfleet’s scanners. Hurry. The Doctor and the female officer are occupied at the moment with her injury.”
“Which way do I go?”
“Back beyond the way you came in.”
Kirk moved quickly and as efficiently as he could, following directions as he got them, “How are you talking with me?” Kirk couldn’t help but ask.
“We installed a small transceiver in your inner ear. All of our Agents have them, it’s the best way we can keep in contact while on assignment. Left.”
The Captain moved as the other Agent had instructed and he had found himself at a dead end, “Wait there.” Kirk didn’t have anything else to do since back the other way was Ensign Wolf and her unusually powerful phase pistol.
A piece of the rock face moved and Kirk darted into the opening. Once past the rock closed sealing itself as it locked. In the small cavern Kirk found himself once again at the business end of a phase pistol.
“This has got to be the worst mission I’ve ever seen. I gave you a simple task to protect the fossils at all cost and now they are in the hands of a possible enemy agent.”
Kirk began to speak but he was quickly cut off, “Lucky enough for you Challenger is now in orbit. Behind me is a teleporting station. We have an Agent working the teleportation room on your ship, he’ll receive you and you take back your ship. There’s only a skeleton crew aboard right now, mostly engineers and technicians. Get us back those fossils.”
As Kirk listened to the Agent speak her felt his balance shift and suddenly felt disoriented. He did his best to keep as still as possible.
“What happened to the scientists?” Kirk asked.
“They have been taken care of. Now go.”
Kirk felt as if a fog was being lifted from his head, thoughts were coming more clearly to him. He was feeling less impulsive and more normal. He couldn’t quite describe the feeling but it was as if his thoughts up to this point weren’t his but pre-planned out.
Stepping onto the teleporter, Kirk waited for the beam of light that was to come. It eventually arrived after a few button pushes from the Agents side. The next moment he found himself back on familiar terrain.
“Welcome back sir.” Said the Teleporter Chief. He was a young man with an enlisted rank on his shoulder. He moved quickly with a spray in his hand, “This has been prescribed by ‘our’ doctor, he said as he pressed the device to Kirk’s neck. The spray entered his body and sudden the dizziness went away but thoughts began to speak in the back of his mind at an uncontrollable rate, thoughts that were not his own.
“Get the fossils and eliminate anybody who gets in your way.” Kirk heard the young teleporter chief say.
”I will.” Kirk replied, his eyes cold and sinister.

Sharon could not do anything to help the doctor, so she moved as quickly as possible, she decided to follow the cave, see if there was another way to the surface, she hopped as best as she was able, then her hand touched a spot and two doors opened, it was a lift.
"God be with you Saryn my friend, I will return to the ship and bring back help, I swear on my honor as a officer." She said quietly.
Sharon entered the lift and leaned against the wall as the lift went up, it took her to the surface, she checked her bearings and found she was not far from the pod, she hopped along the clay sand and came to the pod, she entered and ran the startup routine.
She lifted off and headed back to the ship, the pod entered the shuttle bay and she powered down and got out.
"Lieutenant, keep her warm, I do not plan on being gone long but i need some help getting to sickbay." Sharon said standing on one foot when a officer approached.
"Yes ma'am." He said.
Two of his assistants came over and picked her up and headed out of the bay, went to the lift and took it to sickbay, they carried her in and sat her on a bed a nurse approached.
"I tore my Achilles tendon on the planet, could you re-wrap the foot for now and put me on crutches until the doctor returns?" Sharon asked.
"OK Ensign, I will be right back." The nurse said.
Sharon nodded, then a child came up with a questioning look.
"Is my father OK?" The child asked.
Sharon did not want to lie to the child but she knew that the truth might hurt as well. "You must be Numike, I'm Sharon, your father is fine, I had to return to the ship to at least do something about my foot, or I'm no good to him." Sharon said.
The nurse returned and removed the temporary repair the Doctor did, the foot was swollen, the Nurse re-bandaged it making it a little more comfortable then taped it to make sure it stayed, then gave her crutches, she was about to get up when the captain walked in.
"Captain, I would advise against taking those fossils." Sharon said leveling her phase pistol at him.
<Kirk>
"I may have some information that might clear the mud for you." Sharon said keeping the pistol trained on him as she pulled out the papers she found.

~Challenger~
Numike glanced from the woman to the captain, and back to the woman. The girl didn't understand what was going on and certainly couldn't comprehend why the woman was holding a weapon on the captain. He was usually very nice, though there was a coldness about him now.
Alarmed, she moved to stand beside the captain, looking up at him in fright. "Captain Kirk, where is my father?" she asked anxiously, "Miss Wolf says he's fine, but I don't think he is." She tugged at his sleeve to get his attention, but when he moved towards where she knew Saryn had stored his finds, she pressed her hands against his thighs, in the hope of stopping him.
Baring her fangs, the girl looked up and took a step back, out of his reach. "Miss Wolf, why is the captain acting strangely?" Then her brow creased in worry. "He looks hurt! Is he acting strange because he's hurt? Look, his uniform's scorched."
~Mars~
Saryn still struggled in Logan's strong grip, fighting to remain conscious. He had a headache now and he was feeling nauseous; the blow to his head had been harder than he had anticipated. The commander hadn't responded to his queries, which concerned him deeply.
Logan's grip on his arm was strong, despite his twisting and turning, his attempts to apply a nerve-pinch. He saw the communication's chief move from the corner of his eyes, then his vision exploded as Logan smashed his weapon against the back of the Vulcan's head. This time, the pull of unconsciousness was too strong and the Vulcan slumped into the sand.
An unknown length of time later, Saryn squinted against a bright light which shone right into his now sensitive eyes and, much to his own horror, discovered he was tightly bound. Sat propped up against a wall or a concrete chair, he didn't know, but it was cold either way. His mouth went dry as he realised that he had no idea where he was or how much time had passed since he lost consciousness.
His head was pounding in more places than one and he tasted blood. Deciding it was probably best to remain silent, he just sat and relaxed as much as was possible in his current condition. Wasting energy on trying to break free was illogical and unnecessary. Saryn knew he would find out soon enough what was going on. He only closed his eyes to avoid the painful light, which was only a slight comfort.

“We don’t have time for this!” The voice in Kirk’s head screamed, nearly causing him to twitch from the sudden sharp pain.
“Captain Kirk, where is my father?” The small Mirandian voice sounded as if it was coming from a great distance.
“He’s fine. He’s on the planet below us.” Kirk replied coldly. Kirk’s eyes never moved from the young Armory officer standing in front with a phase pistol leveled at his chest.
"He looks hurt! Is he acting strange because he's hurt? Look, his uniform's scorched."
“That’s because Ms. Wolf shot me earlier,” Kirk added as he keep a small step closer to the Armory Officer, knowing full well that she would shoot him if he moved far to aggressively.
"I may have some information that might clear the mud for you." Sharon said keeping the pistol trained on him as she pulled out the papers she found.
“There’s your chance!” Screamed the voice. This time Kirk did react to the loud voice screaming into his head. When he regained his focus on Ensign Wolf he saw the odd expression on her face from his sudden reaction to some internal pain.
Playing as if suddenly some clarity had just come to him, he wisely changes his stance, let loose the tension in his shoulders and face, allowing his features to soften. He then added to the charade by rubbing his eyes quickly before speaking, “Can I see those papers?”
Ensign Wolf looked cautious but she seemed to be buying Kirk’s rouse. She extended her free hand out with the papers while keeping his pistol back near her body and still pointed at her Captain.
“NOW!” Again screamed the voice.
Moving as quickly as he could Kirk grabbed onto Sharon’s wrist and pulled the young officer forward, throwing her off balance. He then quickly landed a right hook across the side of her face. Once she was on the ground, Kirk kicked the phase pistol away from her and continued his assault until she was unconscious.
“What are you doing?” Numike screamed.
“Protecting myself young one.” Kirk replied in rapid breaths while he looked around sickbay. He finally found what he was looking for, and grabbed the roll of surgical tape before quickly returning to the fallen Armory Officer.
“What are you doing? Eliminate both of them!”
Kirk tried to block out the pain of the voice as he bound Ensign Wolf’s wrists behind her, “She tried to kill me down on Mars Numike.” Kirk finished up walked over to the ships COM, “Captain Kirk to the brig.”
“Go ahead sir.” Replied the officer on duty.
“Ensign Wolf just assaulted me in Sickbay. I restrained her and I need you to send a team down here to take her to the brig.”
“We’re on our way.”
Kirk closed the COMS and moved over to the stack of fossils sitting in a way that looked as if Saryn had suddenly left them to attend to more urgent needs. Behind him the doors to Sickbay opened and Commander Wallace stood there in disbelief.
“Captain, I just heard the news. Are you alright?”
“I’m fine Mike, just a little shook up that’s all.”
“Is there anything I can do?”
“Yeah, stay here with Numike until the security team arrives. I have to get these fossils back down to the planet.”
“Of course sir.”
Kirk packed up a medical bag with all the fossils and walked quickly out of the room. It didn’t take him long to make his way back to the teleportation room and to the Chief on duty. Once inside he locked the door behind him just in case, the Chief seemed to agree with his move.
“Those are the fossils?” He asked.
“Yes.”
“Good. I’ve been instructed to bring them to our handler. Please hand them over.” The Chief said as he raised a phase pistol from underneath the station.
Being unarmed Kirk had no choice but to obey the command, “Thank you Captain. It’s rather unfortunate that you failed this simple mission, we were really looking forward to having you on board.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean,” The Chief said as he put his body into a position to fire, “You failed us, and we no longer have a use for you anymore.”

Sharon fell for the captain's ploy hook line and sinker, being hurt did not help matters, Sharon played dead hoping he would get the idea, he tied her up and security came in.
She felt security pick her up and carry her to the door, she heard commander Wallaces voice, they were heading down the corridor, she heard the Captain leave then the Commander stopped Security and untied her.
'Ensign Wolf." He said.
Sharon opened her eyes. security looked at both of them not sure what to do. They marched back to sickbay they helped her back on a bed.
"You ok?" The Commander asked.
"I have felt better, something is wrong with the Captain, he was fighting something in his head, he was in pain at times." Sharon said.
"I know Numike told me, if she had not you would be in the brig right now, we lost our armory officer, would you likke the position?" He asked.
"Gladly, Commander we have two problems, the Doctor is in danger from Commander Logan, and I bet section 31 will kill the Captain, any suggestions would be gladly appreciated but rescuing both of them is not going to be easy by any means." Sharon said as Numike came up.
"Ensign, the captain, he grabbed the wrong thing, I moved the fossils to another place, what he took were remains of some creature, father would not say what but he asked me to lock the fossils up before he left with you." Numike said.
....................................................................................................... Meanwhile on Mars
The Agent paced back and forth waiting on Saryn to wake up, he was angry that the doctor was in on this whole thing, he disliked Vulcans and their lies, he noticed Saryn waking up and sat up.
"I want some answers Vulcan, what is it that you are hiding down here on Mars?" He asked.
<Saryn>
"If I were to believe you then why dig this up now?" He asked.
<Saryn>
When the Doctor did not respond the agent kicked him in the knee, seeing the Vulcan wince he knew he had his attention.
"Answer me darn it." he said.
The Agent went back to pacing, this whole thing did not make sense at all, he put his phase pistol in the holster and lifted the Doctor up till they were face to face.
"Either tell me everything you know or I will kill you right now." he said.

Saryn squinted against the light, trying to figure out where the sound of footsteps approaching was coming from. Since he was blinded by the light shining directly in his eyes and he was still reasonably dizzy, he couldn't pinpoint the location. Yet, he didn't start when a voice suddenly appeared right beside him.
"I want some answers Vulcan, what is it that you are hiding down here on Mars?"
"I am not hiding anything here on Mars," Saryn answered truthfully, once his gag was removed. "I discovered a grave when searching for my commanding officer and I dug up the remains to relocate them." Not quite the truth, but no lie either.
"If I were to believe you then why dig this up now?"
The Vulcan pretended not to hear the question and continued to stare right past the human standing menacingly over him. He couldn't suppress a wince when his captor painfully kicked him against his right knee.
"Answer me darn it."
"I have nothing further to tell you," Saryn answered coldly, "I am a doctor. I do not get involved in conspiracy theories."
"Either tell me everything you know or I will kill you right now."
The Vulcan sighed in resignation as he was hauled to his feet. His right leg wouldn't support his weight, not that he was in balance with being bound at both hands and feet. He sagged into the sand when he was released. "In that case, the logical thing would be for you to kill me, for you are wasting your time. I know nothing, beyond that my commanding officer is involved in something he would rather not be involved in." He winced when he was viciously kicked again, but he didn't answer any further questions.
ooc: logan, now would be a good time to post.......please?

Sharon sat on the bed looking at Commander Wallace and Numike.
"Commander, until the Doctor returns, theres not a whole lot I can do, tearing the tendon has limited my mobility, the Nurse wrapped it but, I cannot put any weight on it. Saryn is bound to be in trouble he has not checked in in awhile." Sharon stated.
<Wallace>
Sharon listened to him hoping they could do something, but what was the question without endangering the Captain and the Doctor.
...............................................................................................................
The Agent looked at the vulcan, and let him drop to the floor, he started to pace again.
"I did not join this group to kill people for no reason, especially aliens, this finding, I was just made aware of by our leader who sent me to find out why you are here, there was somone else with you as well." He said.
<Saryn>
The other officer joined them.
"Commander Logan, this is the first time I have met you, and to be honest I don't know what to believe, this whole thing just does not add up." He offered.
<Logan>
"He is not in on this, just our leader does not want any witnesses, and he sent me to make sure this one does not survive to tell others what he knows." The agent stated coldly.
<Logan, Kirk, Wallace, icome on lets get with the program>

The ringing which had caused Kirk serious pain earlier was starting to subside, with it a clarity he had noticed before. His limbs no longer felt numb and like jello, he had feeling back and more importantly he felt as if he had his strength and agility back as well.
“I’m sorry it didn’t work out sir.” The Agent said as he thumbed the phase pistol’s settings from stun to kill.
“Commander Wallace to Captain Kirk.” The two agents heard over the COM system. Both men’s eyes moved from each other to the wall communicator before traveling the short distance back to each other.
“Captain, please respond.”
“I need to get that.” Kirk said moving his eyes from the armed agent to the communicator.
“Step carefully Captain.” The agent warned as he nodded his head in the direction of the wall communicator.
Kirk did as he was told and walked slowly and carefully as if he was trying to walk a tight rope between two high-rises in the middle of a hurricane. Out of the corner of his eye he could start to tell he was physically moving closer and closer to the armed agent and with that came the chance of a successful attack on the would be gunman.
“Captain Kirk, please respond. This is Commander Wallace.”
It was time; Kirk pushed off with his right leg and ducked his head down putting his shoulder into the agents’ chest. The fight was now on. The Phase pistol fell from the stunned agents hand and slid across the floor away from both fighting men.
The agent had managed to wrap his arms around Kirk and was starting to pound the small of Kirk’s back with the his fists, each time forcing the Captain to let out cries of pain. Looking to better his position, Kirk pushed again and slammed the agents’ back into the wall, forcing a small dent to form in the hard metal.
The two men then fell to the ground, Kirk on top of the stunned man, throwing punches as quickly as he could to knock the lights out of the trained killer. During the vicious and near unstoppable punches the agent draws a short knife from his uniform and thrusts it into Kirk’s side before stabbing him again and again. Kirk falls back onto his back, blood now freely pouring out of the fresh wounds. The agent pounces, but Kirk is quick to react, holding the agents arms at bay only a few inches from Kirk’s face.
Sweat built up from the fighting drips freely from the agents face onto Kirk’s uniform, “I didn’t want it to end like this Captain.” The agents says in between hard, heavy breaths, “I wanted to make it as painless as possible for you.”
“I hate to disappoint.” Kirk replies struggling against the much stronger agent. The knife gets closer as both men apply both arms to the struggle. Kirk moves his head to the side as the blade presses harder on his cheek bone and begins to slowly break the skin.
“Good bye Captain.” Just as the words fly form his mouth a single phase pistol shot rings out and the agent falls down and away from the Captain of the Challenger. Kirk turns quickly to see Mike Wallace standing with a phase pistol still at the ready.
“Nice shot.” Kirk says in between quick gasps of breath.

Saryn grimaced as he was dropped again; it was clear to him now that his leg was broken just below the knee and the tight bonds weren't helping any in fighting the agony and nausea he was experiencing. He had been subjected to a thorough interrogation and though he had held his own, he had suffered a severe beating.
He tasted blood and he felt as though every bone in his body was at least cracked; apart from the broken leg, he was certain that at least one rib was broken as well as his right upper arm after an unlucky fall.
"I did not join this group to kill people for no reason, especially aliens, this finding, I was just made aware of by our leader who sent me to find out why you are here, there was somone else with you as well." He said.
"I am alone," Saryn managed. It was stretching the truth, as he hadn't been alone before. He was starting to feel extremely light-headed and disoriented, having lost track of time. Between interrogations he had passed out several times, only to be revived by means of medication.
With increasing horror, he listened to his captor speaking to Commander Logan. By now, the Vulcan also knew that appealing to Logan's sense of duty and loyalty was pointless. The man was so drugged up himself that his own dislike for Vulcans had resurfaced. Appealing to him would only anger him further.
"He is not in on this, just our leader does not want any witnesses, and he sent me to make sure this one does not survive to tell others what he knows." The agent stated coldly.
Unconsciously, Saryn held his breath, ignoring the pain it caused. Did he want Logan to commit murder? Saryn just couldn't believe it; Logan was no killer. "Commander," he started but he was roughly knocked aside. He grunted in pain as his still bound arms connected hard with the ground. "Killing me would be illogical," he continued, after he regained some of his senses. "I will be missed. I am certain my shipmates will be looking for me already..."
The agent lashed out again, sending the Vulcan back into the merciful folds of unconsciousness. "Well?" he challenged the Human commander.

Sharon was called to the Captain's office and was told to bring two security officers with her. Sharon got up on crutches and made her way to the armory, she grabbed a phase pistol and two officers they followed her They soon reached his office and there stood commander Wallace, the captain and someone on the floor.
<Wallace,Kirk>
"I see, John, Mike take him to the brig, he can sit in there for awhile. Captain, if you are here then the Doctor is in danger, I'M not crazy about this but permission to use the transporter and take security down to mars." Sharon suggested.
<Kirk>
.......................................................................................................... Meanwhile down on Mars
The Agent looked at the Commander and back at the Doctor who was out cold.
"Commander, finish him now." He said.
The agent watched the Commander closely waiting to see what he would do, he leveled his phase pistol at the vulcan but hesitated, the next moment the Commander was on the ground from the agents shot, his pistol was set to light stun.
"I cannot let you kill him, plus this was a test for you and obviously theres still some trust problems here." The Agent said.
"I dont understand." Commander Logan said.
"I know but I cannot tell you more, just trust me." He said.
The agent put his phaser away, Commander Logan did as well.
"I dont know what to call you, but the doctor has problems with stairs, hes afraid of heights, so between the two of us we can get him back up to the surface." Commander Logan stated.
"Agreed, hes also hurt badly, I may have done more damage to his leg then i wanted to. so it might be better you take him I will keep anyone from interfering." The agent said.
.......................................................................................................... Challenger
At both the captain, and the Commanders nods, Sharon went over to the wall comm.
"Ensign Wolf to armory, have three security officers join me in the transporter room, belay that make it two join myself and Commander Wallace." Sharon said.
"Yes ma'am." Came a reply.
"The pain is a dull ache and as long as I do not have to try and do to much I'm fine." Sharon said.
.................................................................................................... Mars
The Agent and Commander logan untied and helped the doctor up to his feet. The Commander started walking carrying the doctors weight to the stairs, the doctor started to come around as they took one step at a time.
<Saryn>
They moved up a few stairs when the rail on one set gave way, Logan felt his legs slipping and the step gave, he went down hard nearly letting out a blood curdling scream.

The Agent and Commander logan untied and helped the doctor up to his feet. The Commander started walking carrying the doctors weight to the stairs, the doctor started to come around as they took one step at a time.
It took but all his concentration not to cry out in pain as he was helped to his feet. He had no idea what was going on, or even where they were taking him. The bonds being released caused enough agony on its own, enough to nearly have him pass out again. Vaguely, he was aware of being helped up the stairs he had failed to conquer earlier without Sharon's assistance.
"What..." he started, but he couldn't even get the words out, his mouth had gone dry altogether. It must've been several hours since Logan had knocked him unconscious and his interrogation/torture had commenced. He had lost track of time, having spent much of that time unconscious.
However, he felt he had no choice in the matter and he was in too much pain and even too weak to argue. Remaining silent, he allowed the two men to help him up the steps, one slow agonising step at the time as his right leg still wouldn't support his weight.
They moved up a few stairs when the rail on one set gave way, Logan felt his legs slipping and the step gave, he went down hard nearly letting out a blood curdling scream.
The agent on his left froze and Saryn with him as Logan went over the edge. The Vulcan stood rooted to the spot, breath caught in his throat as he forced himself to look at Logan dangling, threatening to be absorbed by the black deep unknown.
"Help me!" Logan cried out, holding on to the step for dear life.
Saryn forced himself to look down, then wrenched his eyes shut as everything seemed to whirl before him. He took another deep breath then signaled for the agent to help him. With his uninjured hand, he grasped Logan's wrist and pulled with all his might. Pain lanced through his entire body, but he managed to pull Logan up.
About an hour later, they reached the top of the stairs and Saryn sagged into the sand, completely exhausted and drained. "Logan..." he started, pointing at the approaching craft, before he lost consciousness again.

Jack didn't understand what had just happened the last few hours. He knew that the situation on the Challenger was for the most part taken care of. The actions that led him back to Mars and to Saryn were just a blur to him now. His unwillingness to kill his Vulcan friend had caused his agent to mistrust and shoot Jack. The near death experience he had just gone through had truly shaken Jack's confidence in his physical condition. If it hadn't been for Saryn, Jack would have fallen to his death. The thoughts were racing through his mind as the three men climbed the stairs to the surface. He didn't remember it being this hard, but then again he wasn't as tired the last time.
When they finally reached the surface the three men collapsed to the ground with Saryn going into unconsciousness once again. They would begin the trek back to civilization once Saryn regained consciousness again.
~I'm sorry that I put you in that position~
"Why don't you just talk to me like a normal human being," Jack replied out loud.
"Our tendency is to speak only when its absolutely necessary," the agent replied," for all I know your Vulcan friend is faking his injury and trying to gain further information on us."
"You are truly paranoid, we both know that he's not faking his injuries," Jack replied wanting to punch the agent in the face," once we return to Challenger I assume you will disappear rather quickly."
"Yes, the mission fell apart, but it was still a success," the agent replied," we'll have to to deal with members of your crew,. They know to much."
"You know I cannot allow that to happen," Jack replied.
"You don't have a choice Jack, there memories will be tampered with ," the agent said," its this or death. I'm sure your friend and you would rather not pick the ladder."
"You truly are a [word deleted] you know that," Jack said as he heard Saryn moan back to consciousness.
"I will do everything in my power to protect Earth," the agent said before helping Saryn back to his feet.

Nausea threatened to overwhelm him as the agent pulled him back to his feet; he was at all fortunate that he hadn't had anything to eat in the past day, something which was also starting to break him now. Nearly twenty-four hours without food, or water, Saryn was dehydrated and the several bleeding cuts he suffered had not helped. His body needed strength to heal, strengh he at present did not possess.
His delerious mind tried to process what he had just heard, just as he had regained consciousness. He prayed he had heard wrong but one look at the agent told him otherwise. Gratefully, he accepted Logan's assistance on his otherside and together the two men helped the injured Vulcan out of the cave.
Again, Saryn spotted the shuttlepod, though this time it had finished landing procedures. Except, he saw two identical pods with identical people coming from it. Was his mind finally starting to play tricks on him? Saryn wondered as he struggled to remain on his feet. He had only one leg to go on, the other had gone numb and wouldn't support weight. His left arm was slung across the agent's shoulder, though the movement was agonising with the bone cracked just under the rotating cuff. His cracked ribs set his chest on fire, but he did well enough to ignore that pain.
He only wished his headache would pass, so he could think more clearly. "Logan, the pod," he whispered in Vulcan, barely audible and only for the communication's chief to hear. Despite what had happened, Saryn would sooner trust Logan than the agent. His refusal to kill him had proven Logan's loyalties to him, and that was enough. "We must go at once. I need..." He fell silent again, unable to speak any further. He needed medical care, beyond what field medicine could provide; he needed nutrition and fluids.

The captain gave her permission to take a shuttlepod down, with a warning to becareful.
"I will." Sharon stated and walked over to the commpanel and tapped it. 'Ensign Wolf to armory, have a security team meet me in the shuttlebay in 10 minutes, come armed." She said then tapped it off.
Sharon left the captains office and headed down to the shuttle bay, slowly but carefully.
............................................................................................................. Mars
The Agent did not mind helping them but they both had to realize that he had a certain duty to keep, and the safety of Earth was important. He had a means, albeit illegal to do a mindswipe on all that were involved in this.
"Once we are on the ship I will have to make sure you never remember what transpired here, nor your shipmates." He said.
The Doctor said something he could not hear, he knew the Doctor must need medical attention, after the damage he caused the poor Doctor. They started getting closer to the cave entrance, even he saw the shuttlepod land.
...........................................................................................................
Challenger
Sharon met a team of four security officers in the shuttlebay, they stepped into the shuttlepod, Sharon took the pilots seat handing one of the officers her crutches.
"Ensign, do you think its wise to go down with us? Your mobility could become a problem." One said.
"Don't worry about me, get belted in boys." Sharon said.
Sharon started the startup routine, ran the regular checks, when everything was green they exited the bay. She piloted the pod down and headed styraight for Mars, its red landscape coming into view, the pod went through the atmosphere and headed in the direction of the cave. She found a place to land and shut down the pods systems.
"Ok, keep your weapons handy, we don't know what we are walking into, when I left the Doctor, he was at the mercy of Commander Logan." Sharon said.
They walked outside and headed to the cave, Sharon had an idea as they got closer.
"Take up positions on either side of the cave, this way let the Commander think I'm alone and immobile." Sharon suggested.
They moved out, she kept moving watching out for rocks and when she got to the front of the cave, the doctor was being helped by Commander logan and someone she did not know. She pointer her phase pistol at the Commander while keeping an eye on the other guy.
"So beating up a Doctor is what you have moved to now, Please hand over your weapon Commander you to whonever you are." Sharon said.
"What if I choose not to, you are in no position to stop me from using it." The agent said.
The four security officers came into view, both men were relieved of their weapons.

Jack didn't know Ensign Wolf that well but it was obvious that she knew how to take care of herself. He also knew that things would not go well for her if she took them in. His agent had made that perfectly clear and it was now up to Jack to save her life and that of the security officers.
"Ensign Wolf, I'm ordering you to stand down," Jack said trying to use his rank and authority aboard the Challenger to force her to stand down," I'm your superior officer and I have given you a direct order."
(Sharon)
"Jenkins, we have served together for three years," Jack said turning his attention to to the security officer," we have been through a lot. You know that I'm no traitor."
"Jack... your actions. You killed a man aboard the Challenger, how can I trust you?" Jenkins asked clearly torn.
"I killed him to save the Captain's life," Jack said," are you going to listen to me or a greenhorn like Wolf here. I have led you into battle and I've gotten you out alive. Trust me!"
"Men stand down," Jenkins said as turned his pistol to Wolf's direction," put your weapon down ma'am. You are hereby relieved of duty."
(Sharon)
"Jenkins, take Ensign Wolf back to Challenger and place her in the brig," Jack ordered as he took his pistol and headed towards the second shuttlebay. Saryn was in need of medical attention and he was going to make sure he was going to get it.
"I have my doctors waiting for us," Jack's agent said," those on Challenger have already been taken care of. We'll have to deal with Commander Wallace and Ensign Wolf in a few hours."
"You promised me that no one would be hurt," Jack said as he tried to make Saryn as comfortable as possible.
"You have my word, they will think they were in a shuttle accident," the agent said," only Captain Kirk and yourself will know the truth."
"Why are we to keep our memories?" Jack asked confused. All the trouble that they had caused would surely convince the Group to stop using them for any further missions.
"You two are to valuable to us," the agent said," we will need you in the future. Now follow these coordinates. Once Saryn has been taken care of; we'll transport him back to your sickbay. You'll need to speak with your friend and convince him that everything is fine."
"If you do anything to harm any of my friends I'll kill you," Jack said not completing trusting the older man," please share this with your doctors."
"I will," the agent said as he opened the door and stepped out. Jack could only watch as nurses helped Saryn out of the shuttlebay and led him to a small building a few meters away," all records of the fossils has been erased. Don't going looking for them."
"Commander Logan to Challenger please respond," Jack said as he left Saryn in the care of strangers. He knew that they would perform the mind swipe on him immediately, but deep down he knew that he would be back safe on Challenger in a few hours.
"Jack this is Andy, what the hell happened?" Andy asked over the comm.
"Meet me in your ready room, we need to discuss some things," Jack said," I also need you to order Mike and Sharon Wolf to sickbay. They need to undergo some test immediately."

Given his options, Saryn had no choice but to go along with the proposed mind-wipe. Since he was given assurances that only his memories of this event would be erased, he gave his consent. The alternative was much less appealing and he had a family to consider as well. Briefly, he wondered what'd happened to Numike, who had remained in sickbay if she had followed his instructions to the letter.
He allowed the agents to lower him onto a stretcher, then sighed in relief now that the pressure was off his sore body. Soon enough he was carried into what appeared to be a medical bay and eased onto a softer bed, surprisingly with more care than he had expected, being a form of prisoner at present. Or at least, that's what he thought he would be for now, as he wasn't quite free to go yet.
He hissed when someone brushed against his broken arm, then hissed again when a needle was jabbed in the same arm. He felt his eyelids grow heavy and closed his eyes as he slowly allowed the sedative to take hold of him. He never felt the agents press the probes against his temples, or the administration of further medications that would help erase the memory from his mind.
One of the doctors carefully set about to setting the bones in his right leg and left arm, tightly bandaging the latter while the first was neatly cast. Ointments were applied to his bruises once his clothing was removed and his skin washed and desinfected.
"He'll feel better when he wakes," the human doctor murmured; though she didn't like Vulcans she didn't let that get in the way of the oath she took upon graduating from medical school. Each of her patients, enemy or friend, would receive the same dedicated care. "Though he'll be sore for a while, but it's nothing his own system won't be able to handle. Vulcans are tougher than they look."
Nobody responded to her comments, and when she was done she signaled her patient was ready for transport to Challenger. He was still fully sedated and blissfully unaware of the transport, which was rougher than the doctor would've cared to experience.
Hours later, Saryn finally opened his eyes and blinked against the bright illumination of sickbay. At his side, Numike jumped to her feet, smiling brightly. "Father, you're awake. You were in a terrible shuttle accident and nearly died. You were banged up pretty good. The nurse said you're to take it easy and you can't get up."
Saryn remained silent as his daughter babbled on, closing his eyes as the light was causing a pounding headache. He sighed, before turning his head, slowly. "Numike, please find the captain? I would like to hear from him what happened."
The pale face disappeared from his line of sight as Numike sprinted from sickbay. Seconds later, she stormed onto the bridge, pulling the captain's sleeve in urgency. "Captain Kirk? My father is finally awake and would like to see you. He'll get better right?" Worried eyes held the captain's gaze, as the child held on to his arm in fright.

Kirk sat at his desk in his office and let his mind go as blank as possible. Even in the near quiet sanctuary of his officer memories, and flashes of memories occupied his every thought, so much so that all he really wanted was to be put under until the stress of the last mission had passed.
Mission, Kirk laughed as he thought the world, If you could call it that. His memory was still a bit fuzzy, and some of the actions he had performed while on Mars were remembered as if they were in the third person. He didn’t recognize the man that had done the things he had done, harmed the people he had harmed. He grieved privately for those who were lost on Mars and wondered if it was all for nothing, or did they actually save Starfleet, and Earth?
The door chimed and after a moment Jack walked in and locked the door behind him. It wasn’t unusual for Jack to stop by, but this time Kirk knew this long time friend was coming by and it was a matter of talking through what they had just done.
“How you feeling?” Jack asked walking to the nearby window.
“Confused, saddened, guilty.” Kirk replied.
“Guilty.” Jack repeated the word as if it was the word he himself was looking for, “How do you think we’ll write this one up?”
“I really don’t know.” Kirk said getting up from his desk for the first time. He walked over to look out of the other window in his office and before him was the 4th rock from the Sun, Mars. Its red surface burned into his soul and no matter where he traveled or how fast he traveled he would be haunted by this one familiar planet.
“I killed them.” Kirk finally admitted.
“Who?” Jack was captivated by the bluntness of his friends statement.
“The scientists on Mars.”
“Are you sure, the bodies were never found. They could have lived.”
Kirk only looked at Jack, and with in just a matter of milliseconds Jack could tell his friend spoke nothing but the truth. It was a painful truth that both men shared.
“I killed too.”
Kirk had already known about that, the reports were on his desk and they described them as being ‘persons unidentified.’
“The deeper I got the more skewed the lines became. Morality seemed to not exist anymore…I felt wrong.”
“We were protecting Earth.” Jack tried to simplify the mission, as well as justify what they had done.
“Were we? I don’t know.” Kirk turned back to the Red Planet and paused for a moment before speaking, “I don’t think I’m cut out for command.” Kirk dropped the bomb of all bombs on his friend to gauge his reaction.

“Were we? I don’t know.” Kirk turned back to the Red Planet and paused for a moment before speaking, “I don’t think I’m cut out for command.” Kirk dropped the bomb of all bombs on his friend to gauge his reaction.
At first Jack said nothing because he was sure that he was just hearing things, but when Andy remained silent he knew that he was serious.
"You've got to be joking. Challenger wouldn't be the same without you!" Jack said practically screaming at his best friend," we've made mistakes and we'll have to live with that for the rest of our lives. Andy, you never asked for command, but it was given to you because they saw what I have known since I met you."
(Andy)
"I know you didn't want to kill those people, but we were forced to look at the bigger picture," Jack said trying to justify his actions to the one person who could understand," when Shawn dissappeared you took the riens and kept this crew together. You are hurting right now and I completely understand that, but you have to realize that this crew needs you to be captain."
Jack looked at his friend and wished he could take the pain away. Andrew Kirk had led couragous men and women into battle without caring for his personal saftey and for the most part brought them back home. He was able to connect to the people under his command like no one else and he was able to get the best out of them. He exceeded in all the qualities required of a commanding officer and the fact that he had these doubts just meant that he was human.
"Andy you are the best man for the job and I won't let you do anything stupid like resign," Jack said trying to be funny and serious at the same time.

"Andy you are the best man for the job and I won't let you do anything stupid like resign," Jack said trying to be funny and serious at the same time.
Kirk smiled, it was nice to know that no matter what rank either man wore their friendship would always shine through, “Thanks.” Kirk said meaning every letter of the word.
The aching heart of a ship’s Captain was something the former engineer thought he had gotten used to; it seemed for the first time in his short career as Captain he had really finally felt the sting that the burden of command has.
Taking one last look out at Mars, Kirk patted Jack on the shoulder and nudged his head toward the door. It wasn’t code, but he doubted any Vulcan would understand the subtle human gesture.
Kirk had just stepped back onto the bridge when he felt the tug on his duty uniform followed by the high pitch noise that came from the youngest of Challenger’s crew.
"Captain Kirk? My father is finally awake and would like to see you. He'll get better right?" Worried eyes held the captain's gaze, as the child held on to his arm in fright.
Kirk bent down, holding his side the entire time to be at Numike’s level, “Your father is going to be fine.”
“Hurry, he needs to speak to you right away.”
“I’ll be in sickbay if anything should come up.” Kirk said to Jack as he was tugged off the bridge by the young pale-faced vampire.
The doors opened with the push of the switch attached to the wall. Kirk stepped lightly as both Doctor Saryn, and Ensign Wolf were both in Sickbay, one on each side of the circular room. He did his best to avert his eyes from the young ensign as his memory had only piece of the events that transpired in this very room just mere hours ago.
“Captain? How are you feeling?” Challenger’s Head Nurse asked as got up from her observation chair.
“I’m fine.” Kirk held up his hands to try and keep the nurse planted, but it didn’t work as she insisted on checking the dressing on his wound.
“Unzip your suit sir and lie down on your stomach.”
Kirk did as the nurse told him to do so and as he settled in his eyes met Saryn’s. The uncomfortable moment lead Kirk to only one course of action, the ice breaking joke, “Tight ship your running down here, got any pointers for the rest of the ship?”
Saryn didn’t appear to be amused as his felt held firm, “Numike said you wanted to speak to me.”
