Saryn, however didn't understand the joke and simply raised an eyebrow, though it was clearly painful to do so. "Train them well?" he answered quietly, before struggling to sit up a little straighter. One of the nurses moved in to assist and make her chief comfortable, before warning Kirk not to put too much strain on her patient as he needed rest, not excitement.
"Vulcans do not get excited," Saryn quipped, before returning his attention to the captain. "I wish to know what exactly happened captain," he continued slowly, "Numike told me I was involved in a severe shuttlepod accident, however I cannot recall the incident. The last I remember was going down to Mars to find you."
The Vulcan shifted uneasily, insofar his injuries allowed him. "And if I was, I find I have injuries inconsistent with just a pod accident." He indicated his wrists and arms, which clearly showed the marks of having been tied up for hours. "Something happened while on Mars, did there not captain?" he asked bluntly, searching the captain's face. "I have no memory other than going down and indeed very vague memories of a crash, but that does not explain my injuries."
The crash could, however, explain his broken and bruised body, including the blunt-force head trauma he had suffered. Self-examination had shown him that indeed he had suffered quite a beating, as though he'd been tossed all about the pod. It was possible, but unlikely, unless the straps holding him to the seat had snapped. This, on its own was again quite possible but they did not explain the distinct marks on his arms, wrists and ankles.
"What happened?" he asked again, ignoring Numike's fussing over him.
"Father you should rest," the child insisted, repeating the nurse's words. She had promised the nurse to make him rest after seeing the captain, knowing what readings would be bad if she saw them. The nurse had been quite clear on her specific instructions.
"Numike, leave," the Vulcan suddenly snapped at her, "the captain and I need to talk, in private. Come back in thirty minutes. And do not attempt to eavesdrop. I am certain you have homework to attend to." Once the child left, clearly frightened at her father's sudden and unexpected outburst, Saryn settled his gaze back on the captain, making it clear he was expecting an answer.
"Additionally, I clearly remember Miss Wolf being a pilot, but she wears tactical colours now. When did this change occur?" The tactical officer in him had awakened, and his suspicious mind was working at full throttle. He would find out, one way or another.

Sharon did not have much of a choice since her security officers turned on her, she handed her phase pistol over.
"Jenkins, take Ensign Wolf back to Challenger and place her in the brig," Jack ordered.
Sharon looked at the Commander and decided. "Commander, if you are going to mind wipe the Doctor, you might as well do the same to me, because if you do not, I will make damn sure you are court marshaled for this, and your cronies will be lucky if they command a tug."
"OK Ensign, Jenkins take her to the shuttle bay with the Doctor." Logan said.
Sharon followed them to the shuttle bay, and she was placed on a gurney, but before doing so she hit Jenkins in the nose. "Something to think about next time you listen to someone who is under someone elses control."
Sharon and the doctor were taken to a sickbay and a Doctor came over to her. "What is wrong with your foot Ensign?" She asked.
"I tore my Achilles tendon down in the cave." Sharon said.
"I will fix that while we do your mind wipe you will be out longer then the Doctor but you will be fine." She said.
Sharon nodded and felt the hypo at her neck and soon darkness overtook her. ............................................................................................................ Hours later
Sharon woke up when she heard the doctors voice, she was in a room by herself, her leg propped up on several pillows and wrapped, a beeping sound was coming from the console next to her and a nurse walked in.
'Hello Ensign, welcome back." She said.
'Where am I?" Sharon asked.
"You are on the Challenger. You have a visitor who would like to talk to you." She said.
"OK send them in." Sharon said.
The nurse let the head of the bed up so she could sit up and in walked Jenkins, his nose was purple and bandaged.
"Ensign. how are you doing? You look well." He said with a smile.
"I am sore but OK, what happened to your nose?" Sharon asked.
"I got between two of your officers who got into a fight and I ended up getting hit." He said.
"I see, I want to see the report as soon as I am back on my feet, it feels good to get out of piloting a ship and doing something worthwhile." Sharon said giving him a wink.
He smiled and blushed slightly then left the nurse returned with a tray of food. "Shh, don't tell the Captain but I saved the last piece of Chocolate cake for you." She said.
"Nurse, I have a favor if possible/" Sharon asked.
"It depends. what?" She asked.
"Could I talk to Doctor Saryn?" Sharon asked.
"Eat first then I will wheel you into see him, plus I need to get a gown for you." She said.
Sharon nodded and ate, the food was wonderful, she drank water, wasn't interested in the tea but sat it by the bed on the table with the cake for later, the nurse returned with a gown and picked up the tray. 'You saved your tea and goody for later I take it?" She asked.
"Yes the food was as good as usual and I was full, the tea could wait I wanted the water though." Sharon said.
"Put on your gown and I will be right back with a chair." She said.
Sharon pushed back the sheets and slipped on the gown that went down to her ankles and soon the nurse returned with a chair to move her around. The nurse helped her into the chair and wheeled her out of the room and headed to where the doctor was, he was sitting up with his adopted child when she was wheeled in.
"Greetings Doctor, you to Numike." Sharon said.

In the Science Office, Duke worked relentlessly trying his best with what he had available, he also wanted to keep his mind focused as he had just been through a mission which seemed to be of significant importance. But enough about that, more important matters at hand, there was a data pad laid out on the table and a few chemicals and spinning rods to use for the composition of new and more productive materials aboard the ship. Keeping his eye on the task at hand, the human McCalister watched as he poured the mixture of titanium sulfate into a new compound with the hydrogen zenoside. Highly effective as it was, the materials were producing a new and profound item of interest that the science officer took keen proposition to document into his PaDD.
-Chief Science Officer’s Log, Science Department -
Watching the chemicals as they were interacting with one another I have made a careful observation to note that the hydrogen zenoside composition easily made room for the compound of the titanium sulfate, which once put together would create a gendohydrozen sutifate compound with unique properties. I will continue to study this new compound more closely in my research until then, my log will stand for now, and I will place this compound in containment for careful observation and detailed analysis.
-End Report, Commander McCalister -
Laying the log down and putting the compound into containment, he pressed the force field button which put the object in stasis and motioned to the computer for an up to date system reading. After which the Commander walked out of Science, proceeded to his quarters to change into some more relaxing gear. Then walking out of his quarters and proceeding to the gym, Duke began to jog his way there, while keeping an eye on his footing as well as people that might be coming in the way.
After entering into the gym, Duke propped himself on one of the gyro cycles and began to exercise for the duration of an hour.

"Additionally, I clearly remember Miss Wolf being a pilot, but she wears tactical colors now. When did this change occur?" The tactical officer in him had awakened, and his suspicious mind was working at full throttle. He would find out, one way or another.
Kirk smiled because he himself wasn’t entirely sure when Ensign Wolf had changed from navigation to security, but the change had happened never-the-less, “I imagine I’ll be reading about that change in the incoming reports.” Is all Kirk had to offer the good doctor at this point.
He shifted his weight as the nurse continued to re-bandage his stab wound and it was now that Kirk decided it would be best to open up to the doctor. They had known each other for some time now and Kirk had a great respect for the Vulcan medicine man, this was no time for secrets.
“The truth,” Kirk started rather quietly, “Is that I really don’t know what happened down there. My memory is fuzzy at best, but I do remember certain aspects such as fossils, and…” His voice trailed off while he closed his eyes to try and recall the images that seemed to dance around his conscious memory, “conspiracy theory.” Another long break took place before he spoke up again, this time leveling his eyes at Saryn, “I was told you were a Romulan spy sent to disrupt our civilization as we know it by exposing fossils found on Mars that would prove that humans were not from Earth, but were in fact from Mars. The idea was that it would throw our social system into chaos due to the heavily religious aspects of our culture. Besides that I can’t remember much besides some very blurry memories, a voice who talked to me in my mind, and a gas chamber or some sorts.”

"Greetings ensign," Saryn answered, "could you come back later please? I am having a private conversation with the captain." He saw her face fall, but she left anyway. After that he listened attentively as the captain confessed the truth of the situation.
"So there was a crash, and I was captured," he concluded, putting the pieces of missing information together, even though it still didn't feel quite right. "That would explain the inconsistent injury. Thank you for your candour captain, it means much to me."
The Vulcan could see that the captain was troubled, but some part of his story didn't connect. He could remember nothing about bones, but that could be ascribed to the severity of his injuries, and he had suffered head trauma. Sitting up a little straighter with the aid of one of the nurses, wincing ever so slightly as his broken arm was jarred against one of the pillows, he sighed.
"It appears that more happened than either of us will ever remember," he continued, "I would suggest it will be better if this would not be discussed again." He took a deep breath. "I do not remember what exactly happened, and I doubt I will be allowed to. There are forces at work beyond our control, and no matter how we try to avoid it, they will continue to control us." That much he had pieced together.
"Will there be a movie night?" he finally asked, waving Sharon back in with his good arm. Beside the young woman, Numike charged up and climbed up on the bed, carefully hugging her injured father. "Commander Logan still owes me a...what did he call it again? Lager?" He raised an eyebrow, knowing his lack of human vocabulary would draw a smile. "What exactly is lager?"
Saryn gazed from Kirk to Wolf and back to Kirk. "The commander introduced me to a human beverage called 'beer', though I must admit that I find it rather distasteful. It could be it is an acquired taste, much like coffee, so it may take some time before I would truly appreciate it."
Numike held out a piece of chocolate to it; the girl had taken a distinct likening to the dark candy and Saryn allowed her a piece on occasion if she had behaved herself. He shook his head slightly from left to right. "Unless you wish to intoxicate me, it would be better if you consumed it yourself," he explained, raising his eyes back up to either adult. "Chocolate has an intoxicating effect on Vulcans, much like alcohol has on Humans."

After cycling for the hour, Duke took a moment to take a rest to the side, and put his knee on one of the benches, looking from side to side he could also see personnel working out doing daily exercises. Duke made his way toward the shower, entering he washed himself off, clearly this was very relaxing and distressful. As it kept his mind off of other things, he turned the shower off and walked out grabbing the nearest towel, then making his way to his quarters, he found that crew were busy as always.
Walking in, he sat on his bed, taking off his working garments and putting on his working uniform. Taking a quick look in the mirror, he would check his teeth and hair, and put on his shoes, and straighten up his bed. Leaving his living arrangements, the commander was getting the urge for some Chinese food, so it was time to visit the galley and to meet with fellow crewmembers if any were present.
Entering, he found that the galley was full of crew, but didn’t notice anyone who he had been working with, so walking up to one of the cooks, he asked them to prepare him beef and brocoli, steamed rice and sushi. The meal took about fifteen minutes from the time he had spoken to the chef. During that time, Duke looked out the window seeing the stars and speculating on the many star systems that lay open and waiting to be charted. But then had a gurgle in his stomach once more. Grabbing the plate from the chef and thanking him, he sat down once more, and began eating the food, taken one bite after another.
Finishing his meal, the commander walked out of the galley and made for the bridge, finding that no one was either in his department office, his quarters, the galley, or the workout room. Entering that only crew officers were stationed and that the crew that he had been looking for were away from the bridge, “there must be only one more place, the doctors office” Duke mentioned
Making his way into medical he found saryn, kirk and wolf, surprised he walked up to saryn. “So what did I miss?”

Sharon was not happy at being asked to leave but understood why, she rolled out of earshot and found Numike, they talked and Sharon allowed her to push her around a little. Sharon spun around getting a giggle from the little girl, Saryn waved for her to return. Sharon rolled back into the room with Numike at her side.
The Doctor talked about beer and Sharon made a face, her dad allowed her to try it once, when she graduated high school, she did not like the taste of it, her mom laughed at the face she made.
"I can't figure out something." Sharon said.
At the Captain and the Doctors looks. "One, how did I go from being Navigator to Tactical Officer, two how did I go from being a acting Ensign to a Lieutenant J.g? I am totally confused. I sorta remember the crash but not the whole thing." Sharon said.

Looking to the eager young Sharon wolf, Duke finally began speaking once again, hopefully he would solve something and possibly tell the lieutenant something resolute so that she may be satisfied with the answer.
“Maybe it was in the commands best interests to find that you were deemed a tactical position and not that of navigations, and maybe this new position, will coincide with your new rank and position aboard the ship, im sure that the captain has his hopes for you, and does wish that all crew are maintained to a equal role, if command under subsection nine dash three, stated in the logs of Starfleet mandate believe that a officer has not met Starfleet co ordinance or the position in which the officer was primarly put into has taken a toll upon the officer, then it is under command to decide a better role for which the new position is deemed.” Duke replied in an easy tone hopefully not offsetting the eager lieutenant.
“If we make mistakes or prove to have had more problems then we can handle comradry and those who are staffed ahead of them can see those problems and see a better way of fixing them while analyzing the situation and thus putting the crew in placement where it would be a standard operating work place where the crew would be optimal in its procedures.” Duke remarked again.
Duke nodded to the Lt in the hopes he would also get her attention on something more important “It is not to hurt or destabilize your well being or meant as such that the captain disliked you to the point where he would jettison you off the ship and send you a million miles away from here, I believe you will find your answers from either what I previously just described or the captains, or doc’s words or wisdoms to put you at ease.” McCalister smiled then sat near one of the hospital beds listening in on the discussion at hand.
“So Captain tell me, what happened with you down on mars, you look all banged up, I hope nothing serious and life threatening.” duke mentioned then walked towards doctor saryn for a prognosis. “Is he gonna be alright Saryn?”

"I believe we all shall be 'all right' as you put it," the Vulcan replied stoically, though he kept his eyes on Sharon. "However I believe Lieutenant Wolf may require further explanation on how she was promoted without her knowledge."
Shifting his gaze to McCalister, he raised an eyebrow. "In case you have not noticed, commander, we all seem to be in a reasonably banged up shape, as you also put it. Commander Logan is not himself, Captain Kirk appears to have been in a fight, Lieutenant Wolf is quite confused and I myself am still rather beholden to the bed I am occupying, and probably shall not be allowed to get up before the next shift."
"Darn right you aren't," the duty nurse snapped, pressing her patient back to the bed, "so stay put or I'll put you under. You got the worst of it in that crash, you should see the pod, there's nothing left of it!"
Sighing, Saryn settled back, not desiring to be sedated. He caught Numike's glare, even though she appeared to be smiling, her teeth bared at him. When she caught his return stare, she closed her mouth, though her smile remained, a smug look on her face.
"Very good," the nurse now smiled, while she guided Kirk over to the next bed, between which Wolf and McCalister were respectively sitting and standing. "Your turn captain, and you better set the right example for the girl too, as you're the commanding officer."
Numike's smile widened as she climbed onto her father's bed. "We just need Mr Logan and we could have a movienight right here," she grinned, nodding towards something that could function as a large viewscreen. "I could go get the ah...what was that fluffy thing called again?" She gazed at the nurse, a questioning look on her face. "Bits kept getting stuck between my teeth and it was quite salty."
"Popcorn," the nurse supplied helpfully.
"Yes that...and of course I'd have lemonade, while you had ah..."
"Beer?" The nurse's smile widened as she walked over to the wall companel. "Medical bay to Commander Logan. Can you bring a movie, as well as your person down here? We've got movienight requests. And grab Wallace on your way down as well, he wouldn't want to miss this for the world."

Sharon sighed the Doctor was correct, they were all banged up and tired, but movienight sounded good.
"Nurse, would it be ok if I stayed and watched the movie as well?" Sharon asked.
"I don't see no harm in it, as long as the Doctor doesn't mind, only thing is, I would not recommend drinking beer, with the pain medication you are on you might have a bad side affect." She said.
Sharon smiled. "Nurse, I don't drink anyway but thank you for thinking about me, I would love a regular Coke if its ok."
"I think that can be arranged, plus goes better with popcorn." She said with a smile.
"Doctor, I agree with you everything will be ok, maybe because I may have pulled you out of the wrecked shuttlepod and because of my heroism I was promoted, it makes sense." Sharon said.
<Saryn>
Sharon turned her chair around and got comfortable, the nurse brought in a blanket for her and a coke, the movie was really good, Sharon relaxed and let her mind wander a bit but kept attention on the movie.

The crew had begun to wind down from the last and most confusing of missions the Challenger had taken part in. The crew for the most part took enjoyment in the movie that was playing in the mess hall. Kirk on the other hand walked the corridors of his ship and thought at length about what had happened and what he was going to try and put into his report. He felt guilt for tasks and actions that he couldn’t remember, did that mean they had happened or was it a false sense of guilt. He knew that he would probably knew really know for sure.
Along with his walk he brought a couple of PDAs with systems updates, repairs, re-supply, and rearmaments information on them. Diving back into work was the best way for the engineering side of his mind to take over and relieve the ships Captain portion of his brain from the guilt that wouldn’t let go. The Challenger was getting more supplies and weapons than its normal rearm and refit periods. There was no doubt in his mind that the next mission they would be assigned would be a long term and long distance mission to begin to explore new sectors of space along the Earth-Romulan boarder.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Kirk heard a familiar voice say over his shoulder. He quickly stopped and turned to face his First Officer and Chief Engineer.
“Did you see these?” Kirk said as he showed Wallace the PDAs he was carrying.
“Yeah I did.”
“And what do you think?”
“Looks like we’re going to be gone for awhile.” Wallace replied honestly.
“Those were my thoughts too.”
Both Kirk and Wallace began walking in step as Kirk quietly plugged away on the PDA, making small noises with each touch of the screen, “I’ve been thinking,” Kirk said as he continued to plug away on the PDA, “This will be the last time in a while we stop back here. I think a ship wide R&R is in order. The crew should all go down and see their families, I think they would like that.”
“I couldn’t agree more.” Wallace replied stopping in his tracks.
“Good,” Kirk said as he stopped along side Wallace, “See to it that the word is spread.” With out another word Kirk began walking again, leaving Wallace in his wake.
“What about you sir?” The question stopped Kirk in his tracks this time. He turned slowly with an honest smile on his face.
“I’ll make my way home. Thanks for looking after me Mike.”
“Just doing my job sir.”
With that both officers parted ways, each with their own tasks to address.
