Saryn turned as he heard the MACO speak, crossing his arms over his chest as he listened, leaning lightly against the wall.
"Yes I can move them but I do not think my back is ready for a long hike with a pack yet. Doctor I have been meaning to talk to you about Vulcan and Vulcans. I spent several months there a few years back and the priests there said they placed mental blocks for my own good but I think some of them are breaking down. I keep getting flashes of another life another time and after our meeting with the ships from the Federation I am convinced that they are not dreams."
"I do not think that you are suited to be carrying any packs anytime soon, colonel," Saryn answered softly, then fell silent as the rest of the colonel's words sank in.
The Vulcan closed his eyes for several seconds, taking a few deep breaths. "I do not know how to help you on that sir," he answered slowly, not wanting to admit that he was one of the minority that could perform mind melds. "Telepathy is still a taboo subject among my people. Those capable of it keep their silence out of fear to be hunted down. They fear for their positions. The capability alone is viewed as a taint, an abomination. I am not certain I would be of assistance to you here."
His own capability was fairly well hidden and fortunately Saphira was aware of his restriction to talk about it. And the only other person who knew was no longer aboard the ship.
Saryn sighed again. "I could subject you to several tests, including a sleep test and a REM test. My only other suggestion is to get you to Vulcan as soon as we return to our own universe, and I do not know how long that may take." He caught movement from the corner of his eyes. "Saphira is a telepath, she subjected me to several of her intrusions when I was still a captive aboard her captain's vessel. Perhaps she could help you, if she is willing?"
Though he had no doubt Saphira was willing, Saryn was reluctant to subject his patient to her strong will. "However, this will have to wait until you are fully recovered. I shall not have my skill tainted by doing something reckless." Now, he allowed himself a very faint and barely detectable smile. Only those that knew him well knew that he was actually smiling. "I have a reputation to think of," he added, his voice lighter than before.

*RJ listened to the Doctors words and it triggered another memory.*
"Thank you Doctor, but you are the only Vulcan I have met with the exception of the ones from the Federation Ships that I trust or even like. One thing that keeps popping into my head is that for such an enlightened race the Vucans seem very narrow minded.
The members of the High Command that took me to Vulcan after my so called accident kept telling me that I was mad and could have not traveled through time as it was not possible to do so. But they took my shuttle and equipment away from me and destroyed it all. But they seemed very confused that I had destroyed the computer banks in the shuttle.
All I could tell them was the Temporal Prime Directive. They seemed to think because I was not in the Star Fleet Data Base that they could do what they wanted to me; and if not for the actions of an Ambassador named Soval I guess I never would have left Vulcan. One day I will find the answers and rember what was done to me and by whom. I will never forget being locked in a room on a Vulcan Battle Cruiser and having my meals beamed into me, if I never smell or have to eat Plomeek soup again it will be too soon. Three months was enough for a life time. "

"I am not certain what you want from me colonel," the Vulcan doctor answered honestly, "I have no access to any data referring to what you told me. However, I am convinced that time travel is possible." He paused briefly, crossing his arms over his chest in thought. "I have been the subject of time travel, and I do not like what it did to me. Equally I have seen others subjected to time travel. Not too long ago, we were joined here by two vessels from the future. I met several of their crew, some even attacked me, mentally."
Here, Saryn frowned, a look of distaste on his face. "The one who assaulted me was in fact Vulcan but I managed to fight him off, barely. When we were transferred to San Francisco in 1987, I lost complete control over my emotions." Now, he looked away, in shame. "I am responsible for our captain having gone missing," he confessed, "it was my shot that nearly killed him, and would have killed him, if not for those who keep him alive between times now."
A tortured gaze met James', before Saryn looked away again. "I meant to fire at those who attacked us, but something went terribly wrong. At the time, I was the tactical officer. Now that I am a doctor, I prefer not to touch phase pistols, if it can be avoided. I prefer to rely on my melee fighting skills, rather than ranged, and I confess to be quite proficient at them." It wasn't easy for him, this confession to a MACO he barely knew, but it felt good to share it with someone, since he couldn't share it with Kirk or Logan, whom he did consider friends.
He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, calming himself once again. When he opened them again, a leveled gaze met James, one eyebrow arched. "So I ask you again, what is it you want of me? If it is assistance in unlocking your memory, I fear I cannot help you. It would be of great risk to me, personally, to do so."

Andy had spent the better part of the day with Lieutenant Fairbanks inventorying the supply list that the Vackall Commander had given him. Most of them were not critical parts, but they were still parts that they might need later, especially if they couldn’t get back home in an expedited manner.
“What’s on your mind?” Jamie asked as she softly touched Andy’s shoulder.
The Challenger’s Captain was deep in thought, but her small voice and gentle touch brought him back quicker than a sucker punch to the face, “This.” He pointed to the PDA with the items that interested the Vackall.
“I figured that.” Andy noted her casual tone, “What else?”
Jamie watched, as Andy seemed to ponder the question for a minute. He paced a few feet back and forth for a brief moment while he looked for just the right words. When he spoke his tone was not official, or that of her captain, but it was the voice of the young chief engineer she had come to know, “Jamie, I’m the youngest NX Class Captain, and not only that I’m probably the youngest captain Starfleet has ever hard. So I have to weight my decisions a little more heavily than an older person because the last thing I need is for either Starfleet or the Vulcans to think that I can’t handle the pressure of this job.”
Jamie watched as the transformation from the young engineer to the slightly seasoned captain took place. She noted that Andy’s posture straighter up, his chin was held a little higher, and his tone had more power to it. Oddly, she found herself more attacked to the captain of the Challenger rather than the man behind the rank.
“Lieutenant, is there anything that you think we can spare from Engineering?”
“Yes sir,” at first Jamie was shocked by Andy’s sudden change in formality, but as with before she found that she liked it, “We have two spare warp coils that we can spare.”
“The two that we took on before we departed from Earth.” Andy noted to himself.
“Yes sir.”
“Put those coils in the shuttle bay. Perhaps we can trade for some food and medical supplies.” Andy’s tone drifted away from commanding and back to one of a friendly fashion, “I never got a chance to thank you.”
“For what?”
“The status reports from Engineering while I was in sickbay. It was nice to do something besides sleep and watch the walls move around.”
“Were you getting a little cabin fever Captain?” Jamie joked.
“A little.” He confirmed with a chuckle, which brought on a sharp pain from his shoulder and abdomen. His wounds hadn’t fully healed yet, but working was much easier on his mind than sitting in sickbay all day.
“Are you all right?” Jamie asked just after bracing her captain against a hulk head so he wouldn’t fall.
“Yeah,” Andy replied. He seemed oblivious to how physically close he and Jamie were. Instead, his concentration was on his cargo pockets, “The pain meds must be wearing off.”
Andy fumbled against his cane with one hand, and the bottle in his cargo pockets. He couldn’t support his own weight and use one had to try and open the bottle, “Let me.” Jamie said. She took the small orange bottle and popped the top open.
“Two.” Andy said, and for the first time in a long time he found himself actually looking at a woman. A notion he had to clarify in his head own head. He looked at women everyday, but he never really looked at them as a woman. They were always co-workers or subordinates. Jamie looked more like a woman to him then a Starfleet officer.
“Here.” She said as she put the two pills into Andy’s open hand.
“Thanks.” He replied, his eyes locked onto her dark, deep brown eyes. He paused for a second before speaking again, “Lieutenant, have you done something different with your hair?”
Jamie bit her bottom lip so slightly that it seemed like a perfectly natural movement, “Yes sir.” She confessed, “I hope it’s within regulations.”
“It looks good.” Andy replied in a softer tone.
“Glad you like it.” Jamie’s head moved slowly toward Andy.
Both of their eyes closed as they moved in for the kiss. Andy could feel Jamie’s warm breath on his lips, and just as he actually felt her soft lips touch his the internal COMs system kicked on.
“Bridge to Captain Kirk.”
The two let out an audible exhale at the same time before looking at each other in the eyes. Both knew they had just missed a perfect opportunity to take their relationship to another level, but duty called for a starship captain.
“To hell with it.” Andy said. He quickly reached behind Jamie’s neck and gently pulled her into the kiss they almost missed. It wasn’t a long kiss, but it was filled with unhinged passion.
“Bridge to the Captain.”
Andy ended the kiss but kept his face close to hers, “Duty calls. Sorry.” He moved away to answer the summons, “Go ahead bridge.” Andy replied into the wall mounted COM.
“Sir the Vackall Commander is requesting a conference with you.”
Andy waited for a second, he wasn’t ready for this conference just yet as he wanted more time to inventory his ship, “Tell him I’m on my way.”
“Aye sir.” The COM channel closed.
Andy turned his attention to Lieutenant Fairbanks who had been listening in, “Get those coils to the shuttle bay. Lets just hope that this will be enough for him.”
“Aye sir.” Jamie knew the moment was gone, but she had a funny feeling that other moments wouldn’t be too far away.

James regarded the Vulcan doctor and for the first time in recent memory he decided to trust someone.
"I really did not want anything of you except the conversation. I would not want to cause you any trouble or put you in an awkward position. I guess I just needed to tell someone; At times I doubt my sanity."
"Sometimes my memory or as some Doctors have called it imagination; gets me into trouble. During a beefing on Klingon hand weapons by a Vulcans expert; mentioned that he was holding a bat'lth wrong. So he handed me one and told me to defend myself. Which I did and put him in the hospital for 3 weeks. Which did not endear me to the High Command. I always seem to be getting on the wrong side of a Vulcan. I hope I can avoid that around here.
Well how long do you intend to keep me tied to this bed?"

Saryn listened with interest, especially on the part about Klingon weapons. "I would be interested in seeing you practice with one. Perhaps your weapon against mine, in practiced combat?" he added thoughtfully, "and I assure you that anything you do tell me will be treated as doctor-patient confidentiality. I have no reason to believe you are insane, especially since I suffered at the hand of timetravel myself. Granted, at first I did not believe it was possible either, but experience tends to change one's perception on things."
He checked the monitor readouts. "You are not tied to this bed sir," he continued after James' last question, "I have not put any physical restraints on you. However, given the nature of your injury, I recommend resting for another few hours and no rigorous training for the next few days."
The Vulcan raised an eyebrow. "However, since I believe you will not follow my advice, you may resume your duties now but I strongly urge you to come back here the second you experience any pain, however slight. Understood?"

Sharon finished up her duty time on the bridge, she was relieved by Lieutenant Carlson that came on the bridge fifteen minutes early. She started to go to her quarters but decided to stop by sickbay and check on Numike. Sharon entered and Numike saw her, gave her a hug.
"Hey, I just got off duty, thought I would stop by and see how you and Doctor Saryn are doing." Sharon said.
<Numike, Saryn>
"Thats good, I had a thought, why don't you both join me for dinner tonight, I'm a pretty good cook." Sharon said.
<Saryn>
"Good, see you both at 1800 hours?" Sharon asked.
<Saryn>
Sharon smiled and left sickbay and headed to her quarters, she entered, boots was laying on the couch waiting on her, she smiled giving his belly a sccratch, which he turned on his back to allow her access.
"You silly boy, we have company coming, so you best be on your best behavior, or no goodies for you tonight." Sharon said.
Boots meowed and purred, he followed her into the bedroom, Sharon changed clothes and took a shower, she got out, put a t-shirt on for now and headed to the kitchen. Sharon took out two pots, she knew most vulcans are vegetarians, so she would make two stews. She had meat thawed so started that with some oil.
Sharon cut the vegetables up and had both pots full and simmering. She turned it down a bit and went into the bedroom and changed into a light blue dress, the front was cut a little low but not to much. Sharon looked in the mirror, she was still filling out but he weight fluctuated between 100 and 125 pounds. She put on make up and let her hair down.
Sharon went into the kitchen and sat the table for three and placed three glasses on the table, she wasn't sure what they liked to drink, so she had juice and tea, soon her door chime rang. She went to the door and tapped it to open and standing at the door was Numike and Saryn.
"Come on in." Sharon said.

Saryn remained in conversation with Colonel James for several minutes, trying to convince him that it was best for him to remain in sickbay for another few hours, to allow himself to heal. If he wished, he could take the required rest in his quarters, and preferably not resume his duties until 0800 next morning. "Report to sickbay before your shift Colonel," Saryn ordered, before turning to walk away. "And remember to invite me to marine weapon's training. I do like to keep my melee skills up to par, and I need someone to spar with."
He had barely walked away to join Numike in his office, when Sharon Wolf walked in, smiling brightly.
"Hey, I just got off duty, thought I would stop by and see how you and Doctor Saryn are doing." Sharon said.
"I'm fine Sharon," the girl replied, mirroring the woman's grin, "just finished my homework." She gave her father a pointed look, indicating that she didn't want him to bring up the very subject of homework now.
"Thats good, I had a thought, why don't you both join me for dinner tonight, I'm a pretty good cook." Sharon said.
"I am certain you are, however.." Saryn started, but Numike cut him off.
"Come on dad, she's a good cook, really. She cooked for me when you were sick. You should try it too."
The Vulcan sighed, relenting. "Very well, we shall join you for dinner," he allowed. "What time shall we be in attendance?" Numike cheered in response but caught herself in time before she could publicly hug her father; she knew he didn't appreciate that.
"Good, see you both at 1800 hours?" Sharon asked.
"1800," the Vulcan confirmed, "we shall be on time."
~later~
Saryn and Numike were well on time and Numike pressed the doorbell to Sharon's quarters. They were immediately invited in, though the cat hissed at the girl, before jumping on Saryn's lap once they were seated. Stiffly, the Vulcan tried to put the cat aside, but the creature wouldn't budge, digging in his nails to the fabric of his clothes. "Miss Wolf, kindly remove your feline from my clothing," he requested, "I fear I am not a pet person."
Numike giggled, though it obviously irked her that Boots went to her father, but refused to come to her. "What's for dinner?" she asked brightly.

The short walk to the bridge allowed Andy to clear his head. Back when he was with Jamie Fairbanks nothing but the moment seemed to matter, now it was the complete opposite. Everything matter, he had the lives of 70 crew members and officers to consider, and they all were riding on the trade talks with the Vackall Prime fleet commander.
When he stepped on the bridge the face of the Vackall Commander was already up. He looked pleasant enough, but he could tell that the Commander had been waiting the entire time.
“Commander,” Andy started from the back of the bridge, “I just finished the inventory of my ship and we’ve found some parts that you might be interested in.”
“Good, very good Captain.” The Vackall Commander replied, but his tone didn’t match his expression. He looked worried about something.
“I take it then that we could arrange a trade?” Andy’s tone hinted that his question was more of a statement.
“May I speak with you in private Captain?”
“Of course,” Andy replied, “Patch his through to my office.”
“Aye sir.”
Andy entered his office and quickly flicked on the large wall monitor, and after a few coded key entries the face of the Vackall Commander filled the monitor.
“Is this a secure station you are on?” He asked quickly.
“It is.” Andy replied just as quickly, “Why?”
“I’m afraid that I have some bad news Captain. News that I didn’t want to disclose to you in front of your crew.”
“Go on.” Andy urged.
“It does sadden me to say this especially now that we have tasted battle together, but Vackall Prime wants all ships in the fleet to cut communications and trade negotiations with you and your people.”
“What? Why?” Andy’s tone was strong and direct as he let his gut reactions take over.
“They stated it was because of cultural differences.”
“How can that be? We’ve never had the chance to introduce ourselves to your people.”
“Do not forget Captain, that I too have superiors that I must report to. The cultural differences are you and your ship. You see, our people believe they were created in the mirror image of our God, and that we are the only beings in the universe. Now, my people’s faith can be shaken and destroyed. Vackall Prime is only acting in the best interest of its people, you can understand that can’t you?”
“I can.” Andy hated to admit it.
“Our fleet will be leaving in one of your hours and you will not see us again. I will leave you with as many supplies that I can afford to part with, but it’s not much I’m afraid.”
“I will schedule the transfer of the warp coils right away.” Andy said.
“No need Captain. Apart of the orders indicated that we take no technology from you. Keep them you may need them. Also, I have several missiles to return to you. They belong to those others like you who were able to return through the Great Gateway.”
“I appreciate that.” Andy said, but now his tone was much lower. He felt the weight of the 70 lives aboard his ship pressing down on his shoulders.
“I must attend to matters on my end Captain. Best of luck to you and your crew, and may your God bring you home safely.”
“Thank you Commander.” Andy’s reply was hollow.
“Farewell.” The Vackall Commander said before closing the channel.
Andy felt nothing; his eyes stared into the black monitor before him. Everything was quiet, and for the first time in a long time he couldn’t hear the warp core. It’s normal hum used to bring him comfort and now he couldn’t hear it. All he could hear was the heavy beating of his heart, and the rushing over air into his lungs. Then the realization finally hit him, they were never going to get home.

Sharon offered both Saryn and Numike a seat, which they took on the couch and in came her cat boots, he went up to Saryn, then hissed at Numike and jumped into Saryn's lap. Sharon could tell Boots was scared but hoped he would not dig his claws in until she saw the Doctor try to remove him.
"Miss Wolf, kindly remove your feline from my clothing," he requested, "I fear I am not a pet person."
"I see that, uhm animals tend to know who doesn't like them and will go to them more often then not." Sharon said trying to stifle a laugh
Numike giggled, though it obviously irked her that Boots went to her father, but refused to come to her. "What's for dinner?" she asked brightly.
Sharon moved over to Saryn and gently reached down to boots. "We are having stew tonight, I have made two different types of stew, one with meat one without. I know vulcans are vegetarians."
Sharon managed to pick Boots up, but not without taking a little cloth in the process. Boots hurried from her arms and ran into the bedroom, then ran back in jumped back into Saryns lap, hissed again, jumped out, ran back into the bedroom then ran back in and decided to jump into Numikes lap and sat there looking at her but not showing his claws.
<Saryn>
Sharon laughed at Numikes look then spoke. "Numike, if hes purring means he might like you, let him sniff your hand, if he nudges it with his head then he trusts you."

The Vulcan sat perfectly still, stoically suffering the cuts and scratches the feline was causing him. He waited patiently for Sharon to remove the creature from his clothing. He grimaced when the claws came close to his face and raked past his cheek, but he said nothing. Suddenly, the feline was gone and he exhaled, realising he'd been holding his breath. "Thank you," he said, watching the feline disappear, then come back to sit with Numike.
The girl was trying not to laugh but the look on her father's face was worth it. She giggled, then listened as the cat indeed started purring. She reached down to let him sniff her hand as instructed, then discovered he was making an odd sound, which Sharon explained was purring.
At that precise moment, Saryn's communicator beeped. "Please excuse me," he apologised, then rose to his feet and walked away a few steps. "Saryn," he answered the call.
"Saryn this is Saphira, you must meet with me at once." She sounded urgent.
"On my way." He returned to the couch. "I fear I must call dinner short," he apologised for a second time, "Numike you may stay if you wish, I have something to attend to." He bowed lightly towards Sharon, patted Numike on her shoulder, completely ignored the cat and walked out.
He walked straight to the guest quarters which were assigned to the Vackall High Inquisitor. Saryn had barely approached the door when it opened and he was literally hauled in. "Please," he insisted, prying the woman's fingers from his tunic. "What is going on?"
"My people are leaving," she told him, "I am ordered back to my ship. We are to erase every record of ever meeting with your people, and never discuss your existance again. However, meeting you and your collegues has changed my perception of the universe. I find I cannot leave, but I shall probably be forced to..."
Arching an eyebrow, Saryn looked up at her - for she was a head taller than he - and sighed. "I do not understand," he finally answered honestly.
"I can show you, but I doubt you will like it."
Saryn took a step back, raising both hands as if to ward her off. "No," he told her, "no more. I had enough of your mind touches. I am risking my career enough as it is."
"I have no choice Saryn. I do not wish for you to forget about us, nor do I wish to forget about you. This will ensure it does not happen. Please, I am begging you."
The Vulcan shook his head, for once chargined that he was completely unarmed. He had neither weapon nor medical tools on him, as he was off duty. "Do not touch me," he warned her.
Saphira smiled. "You are no match for me," she told him, taking a step forward, taking his face in both her hands, closing her eyes as she pinned him to the wall using her own body. "It would be less painful if you didn't resist me. In fact, it wouldn't hurt at all." She felt him struggle in her grip but she was much stronger, even as she sent out her mind into his. After a few seconds, he went completely still, but by then it was over. "I'm sorry," she whispered, as she let him slump to the ground, easing his fall. "I'll call the captain for you. Don't come looking for me. I won't forget you, I promise."
The Vackall woman straightened, looking down on the unconscious doctor. She was certain he'd wake up with one hell of a headache, considering the amount if resistance he put up. "Captain Kirk, I am returning to my ship as are my orders. Please find your doctor in my quarters, he is unconscious but otherwise unharmed. I thank you for your hospitality. Goodbye." She snapped the communicator shut, then placed it on the floor beside Saryn. A second later, she was gone.
When she was gone, the young priest - who had yet to reveal his name - emerged from the shadows, looking down at the unconscious Vulcan. He was torn for he too had been ordered back, but his beliefs had been shattered such, that he would be branded a heretic when he returned home. He knew what Saphira had done to the doctor, and knew he was overwhelmed such that he wouldn't wake for a while.
Quietly, he knelt beside him and turned him over onto his back, examining his features. They were drawn and his mouth was pulled back in a grimace, his cheekbones slightly bruised from the pressure the woman had exerted to keep him still. The priest scowled under his breath as he discovered more pressure bruises on his chest. He knew Saphira had meant no harm, but when permission was denied she should've stopped and respected it.
"Saryn," the priest murmured, shaking him carefully. When there was no response, he picked up the Vulcan and carried him to sickbay. "Captain Kirk, I have brought your doctor to your sickbay. I'll remain with him until he wakes and explain what happened. He'll be a little sore, no doubt. You may wish to see for yourself though."

Sharon smiled at Numike, she seemed to enjoy Boots purring, he had settled into her lap enjoying the attention.
"Numike, let me show you something he likes." Sharon said.
Sharon reached down and gave Boots a scratch ontop of his head and his ears,he leaned into the scratch, his purr just a little louder, Numike repeated what Sharon showed her and was delighted that she got the same reaction, then Saryn's communicator beeped. He moved away to answer it, then returned.
"I fear I must call dinner short," he apologised for a second time, "Numike you may stay if you wish, I have something to attend to." He bowed lightly towards Sharon, patted Numike on her shoulder, completely ignored the cat and walked out.
"Interesting, I hope hes not gone to long." Sharon stated. "Lets eat, I'm hungry."
Boots moved as soon as Numike started to get up, Numike took a seat at the table, Sharon dished up the stew, and brought the bowls over to the table. Sharon gave Numike a glass of Juice, Sharon had tea, they ate quietly, while boots layed in the empty chair.
Soon dinner was finished and Numike helped clean the table, leaving Saryn's place set for him. Sharon went into her bedroom and changed clothes into a t-shirt and shorts. When shereturned to the living area Numike was sitting on the couch playing with boots. Sharon sat down next to her and relaxed.
"I wonder whats keeping Saryn?" Sharon thought out loud.
Sharon got up and went back into the bedroom and found one of boot's toys, she walked out and sat backdown next to Numike.
"Watch this Numike." Sharon said.
Sharon held the toy mouse out for Boots to see,and tossed it on the floor, he jumped off the couch and jumped on the mouse. Numike squealed with glee especially when he brought it to Numike. She looked at Sharon, and Sharon nodded, so Numike tossed it, this went on for awhile until they both were worn out.
Numike layed her head backagainst the couch, trying to keep her eyes open.
"Numike, if you are tired. you may layyour head in my lap." Sharon said.
Numike looked atSharon and scooted down laying her head in Sharon's lap, Boots came up and layed next to Numike.

*After struggling into his uniform James decided to take the Doctors suggestion to heart. After arriving in his quarters and getting dressed for bed James skipped his pre-bed work out and considered his efforts to find a comfortable position to sleep enough of a workout.
After a surprising restful sleep James rose early enough for a workout, but in keeping with the Doctors suggestion he took down his bat'lth and went through a few basic warm up drills. After 5 minutes of a 15 minute routine James back had had enough. James put the bat'lth back on the wall and moved to the shower and prepared for his check up before the start of the alpha shift.*
