T'Val stared at Mercy as he got up and left, then settled her gaze on Voran. "Let us hope our services will not be needed," she repeated as she got up too, "please do not engage in foolish acts captain. I know how Romulans think, at the slightest opportunity, they will engage and war will result."
Then she too exited the meeting and hurried to catch up with Mercy. Unceremoniously she grabbed his arm and gave it a yank, forcing him to turn around and face her. "You could have backed me up there," she snapped, "Captain Voran is being a fool and we both know it. There is no way they can rescue that crewmember of his, not while remaining alive. And he is certainly being a fool risking his own life in the matter."
This was the first time in her entire life that she was really angry, though she didn't realize that just yet. She also missed Mercy's stunned expression as she exploded in anger. T'Val let go of his arm, which she'd been gripping rather forcefully while she'd been speaking. "I hope our services will not be needed," she continued, as she started to walk away, "he will never be forgiven if the Federation and the Romulan Empire will end up being at war over this. Whatever their reasons, and despite them being in Federation space, they do have the right to react if any action of ours endangers them. Likewise, the Federation would respond if they acted on something that would endanger Federation lives."

The shuttle began to shake as Voran entered the outer perimeter of the anomaly.
"Report, Captain." came Tol's voice over the comm.
"I'm experiencing a little turbulence, but nothing worse than that." Replied Voran.
"Captain, I think we should keep this channel open." Said Tol.
"Mel, I think that would be a good idea." Said Voran.
Several minutes later, the turbulence becoming somewhat more violent, Voran was approaching the mouth of the rift, the thing was so bright, he had to bring down the sheilding over the shuttle's windows.
"Computer, activate ablative armour and divert auxiliary power to sheilds." Voran commanded.
A few seconds and the shuttle was in position at the mouth of the rift. It was shaking more violently than ever now.
"Galaxy, tie in your sensors to mine!" Shouted Voran.
"Done." Came Harris' voice.
"Have you got anything?" Asked Voran, his hands speedily working the console trying to keep the shuttle together long enough. Behind him, a console exploded, he ignored it.
"Looks like a 200 year old Federation shuttlecraft."
"Beam it to the shuttlebay and standby to get me out of here!" Shouted Voran.
More consoles exploded, Voran felt a cut across his forehead, but still he ignored it.
"Do you have it yet?" Shouted Voran over the noise of his shuttle falling apart piece by piece.
"Standby." Came Tol's voice, "Captain, your shuttle is losing structural integrity."
"I can hold it together for a few more seconds, just get that shuttle out of there."
Voran's fingers worked the console furiously. Sparks were flying all around him, then a large explosion rocked this shuttle and a beam from one side of the shuttle and hit him on the head.
As he fought to stay conscious he heard, "We have the shuttle in Shuttlebay 1."
Dazed, Voran ordered, "Get me the hell outta here."
As the cool transporter effect washed over him, he lost consciousness.

It couldn't be described, it was like nothing else in the universe. It was still, yet turbulent. It was beautiful, yet terrifying. It was beautiful, yet appalling. This was the home of Commander Jack Logan who experienced nothing. Time and thought did not exist in the rift. The laws of physics did not apply to the rift, which was the only reason the shuttle still survived.
The instant that the shuttle was transported everything came rushing in. For the first time in centuries Jack Logan breathed in oxygen, which immediately crushed a lung. The pain that coursed through his body was severe, but without explanation it all stopped. He knew that it was still there, but it seemed his brain had shut down his pain sensors.
A few seconds passed and then nothing. Jack didn't know what was happening, his brain could not process anything. The last thing he remembered was waiting to be transported to the Stingray.
His mind came back to consciousness when light hit his eye. He could hear some voices, but could not make them out. The voices frightened him, and he would only have a few seconds to escape. He could not feel anything keeping him down so he would have to time this right. His hearing was still exceptional and when he heard footsteps nearing him, he put his plan into motion.
"Doctor the patient is running," a nurse screamed. Jack couldn't help, but look in the direction of the nurse and immediately recognized the species, it was a Mentusi. Jack didn't understand. Mentusa did not have warp technology, the last he had heard they were still experimenting with it.
"Commander, Commander please stop," the nurse said as two other people circled him.
"Let him be!" a voice said, a voice that he recognized. From behind the nurse a very familiar person stood in front of him. He was older, but still the man he knew.
"Shawn, what is going on?" Jack said before he collapsed.

~She's beautiful when she's mad...~ He knew she 'heard' him. That's when she had let go of his arm and continued ranting while walking towards sickbay.
While reaching the main entrance to sickbay, Stuart caught up to T'val and turned her by her arm. Looking at her bright green eyes, accentuated by her anger, he realized the mistake he had made. "T'Val...I'm sorry. I just knew that the Capatin wasn't going to listen to reason, but you're right. I should have backed you, if not as my colleague then at least as my...my lover."
Stuart leaned forward to give T'Val an affectionate kiss. She, not-so-reluctantly, responded in kind.
<T'Val>
.: A few hours later... :.
T'Val, Stuart, and all other support personnel were listening in on the communications feed that was comming from the shuttlecraft and the bridge.
It seemed to be a harrowing process, but it had been successful. Thirty minutes later, they had two patients.
Captain Voran had minor lacerations and injuries, nothing modern medicine couldn't fix right away. All of a sudden, the serene silence was broken.
"Doctor the patient is running." The Mentusi nurse yelled out.
Stuart and T'Val came running, trying to calm down their other patient, Mr. Jack Logan. "Commander, Commander please stop."
Security personnel came in and were about to stun him when a commanding voice rang out. "Let him be!" It was Captain Voran.
"Shawn, what is going on?" Jack said before he collapsed.
Stuart and T'Val immediately attended to him. Stuart used a hypospray to inject a sedative. "Captain, he'll be out for a couple of hours. He's going to need the rest, and we need this time to ensure his other injuries will be taken care of. I'll notify you when he comes around."

"Shawn, what is going on?" Jack said, and then collapsed.
T'Val and Mercy went to his side and with some other medical staff, helped him onto a bed.
Then Mercy came over to Voran and said, "Captain, he'll be out for a couple of hours. He's going to need the rest, and we need this time to ensure his other injuries will be taken care of. I'll notify you when he comes around."
Voran went and checked in on the bridge after thanking the doctors for their valued care.
"Captain," said Morley as he entered the bridge, "we have an incoming transmission from the Romulan vessel."
"Onscreen."
"This is Commander Rekak, your rescue attempt has caused the rift to begin opening..."
Voran looked at Harris who nodded.
"...the only reason we have not yet destroyed you is because you may yet be of use to us. We estimate 6 hours until the rift is open to a dangerous level. You therefore have five hours to find a way to close it. If you fail, you will be destroyed."
The screen went back to an image of the anomaly.
"Mr Harris, I want you to coordinate with the staff aboard the other ships to find a way to close or collapse the rift. I'll inform Admiral Lin of our situation."
<Magellan>
-------------
An hour or two later and the crews were still working on their plans. Voran was in his ready room when he received a call from Mercy.
"Captain Voran, Commander Logan is resuming consciousness."
"On my way."
Within minutes, Voran was in sickbay, once again seeing the friend whom he had lost 200 years ago, back at last.
Logan was sitting up. He frowned when Voran walked in. Voran knew that he only looked maybe 5 or 10 Earth years older than he did when Jack had last seen him, but he seemed to notice.
"How much have you told him?" Voran asked Mercy.
"Nothing, I thought I should leave that to you."
Voran nodded then sat down next to Jack's bed.
Jack spoke, "Captain, what's going on?"
Voran sighed, "Jack, you've been trapped in that rift for 219 years, this is the year 2392 and you're aboard the USS Galaxy, a Federation starship."
Voran waited while the impact of this hit Logan.
Then Logan spoke again, "But, if this is 2392, why are you still here? And why do they keep calling you Voran?"
"I'm not human, Jack. I'm from a planet called El-Aura, we have very long lifespans compared to humans, I'm 480 years old. My real name is Elarus Voran."

Jack woke with a start, his memories were blurred. His last memory was one he wanted to forget. He remembered being confused and then seeing Shawn. That was it, and Jack hoped that it was all a bad dream.
"Welcome back Commander," a man who Jack presumed to be the doctor. Jack opened his eyes and didn't really recognize the man. Jack immediately tried to stand, but found that his body had other ideas. "Commander please stay calm."
"Don't tell me to stay calm I don't know you," Jack said," I must contact my ship, its the USS Stingray." Jack's request ended up with nothing, just a bit of confusion on the part of the medical staff.
"Why don't you contact my ship?" Jack asked frustrated.
"Captain Voran, Commander Logan is resuming consciousness."
Captain Voran, Jack had never heard of a captain Voran. Jack asked questions, but they were all ignored. So he just waited for this Captain Voran to show up.
When the main doors to sickbay opened, Jack was pleasantly surprised. He hadn't been dreaming, he had seen Shawn before he had collapsed. Though for some reason he looked older than the last time he saw him.
"How much have you told him?" Voran asked Mercy.
"Nothing, I thought I should leave that to you."
Voran nodded then sat down next to Jack's bed. Jack didn't understand what was happening, but knew that his old friend would tell him. Jack had shared with him almost everything and he trusted his Captain with his life.
"Captain, what's going on?"
"Jack, you've been trapped in that rift for 219 years, this is the year 2392 and you're aboard the USS Galaxy, a Federation starship."
Jack wanted to laugh, a half smile appeared on his face, but it quickly disappeared when Shawn didn't laugh. Jack couldn't completely process everything he had just said. The last thing he remembered was waiting to be transported back to the Stingray. How could 200 years pass? How could Shawn be here?
"But, if this is 2392, why are you still here? And why do they keep calling you Voran?"
"I'm not human, Jack. I'm from a planet called El-Aura, we have very long lifespans compared to humans, I'm 480 years old. My real name is Elarus Voran."
Jack didn't know why he did it, he couldn't control his arm and in the second that it happened he didn't regret it. Jack's right fist found it's mark, Shawn's face. Shawn or Elarus staggered back from the bed and tripped.
"Captain are you alright," the doctor said as he examined a person that Jack no longer knew.
"Yes, doctor I'm alright," Elarus said," please give us some privacy."
"But what if he tries to hit you again?" the doctor asked.
"He won't," Elarus said as he looked at Jack. The doctor walked away and left the two former crew members alone.
"You lied to us, you lied to all of us," Jack said now just feeling betrayed and alone. For the first time in a very long time he wanted to cry.

Ezdreiana saw what was happening, and to be honest he didn't want to stop him. When Tedak hit Saarok, Ezdreiana felt a sense of pleasure.
Ezdreiana was about to say something, but stopped once she realized that Tedak was transporting them to sickbay. It amazed Ezdreiana that Tedak in all his anger, still thought of the person that had caused him harm.
"Don't you dare tell him what happened," he told her.
"I will do as I please Tedak," Ezdreiana said," it's just that I happen to agree with you." Ezdreiana was no novice to what intelligence officer were capable of, but for a friend to turn on a friend was beyond her comprehension. Nothing may come out of this incident toward diplomatic policy, but it did teach her not to trust no one.
"Well Ambassadors, I can do no more for you," the EMH said and deactivated himself.
"Ambassador Ezdreiana, there is a message for you from Admiral Magellan," Lily said over the comm.
"Thanks, Lily," Ezdreiana said as she activated the computer closest to her.
"What does it say?" Saarok asked.
"The Galaxy has saved Commander Logan and in the process opened the rift," Ezdreiana said," and the Romulans have vowed to destroy our ships if we don't stop the rift from opening entirely.

Tedak froze and just stared at the Trill. "They what!" he exclaimed before starting to pace around furiously. "The rift is opened," he murmered, "and with the rift open, what's in it will escape. Oh no this is a disaster...."
He ignored the presence of the Vulcan and the Trill ambassador, completely oblivious to their openmouthed stares. Tedak didn't know what Saarok had learned through the forced mind meld, and he didn't really want to know either. "I must find Rayna," he suddenly spoke up," this is bad, this is really bad."
The Romulan left his collegues and friends behind and raced out of sickbay. "Lily, locate Rayna," he called.
"Rayna is in the main infirmary," Lily replied, sounding almost amused, "the infirmary you just left Teeedak."
"Great," Tedak sighed, "on top of all my current problems I have to deal with a computer entity who thinks she's being funny. I am in no mood for fun Lily, so please...not now!"
He turned around and paced back into sickbay, locating his friend. "Rayna I need your help," he started, then launched into an explanation.
Minutes later, the two of them entered Loskene's office. "Loskene," Rayna beamed, wheeling up to him then getting out of her wheelchair to cover the last few paces. She kissed him on each cheek by way of greeting. "It's been a while since I've seen you," she smiled, keeping him at arm's length. "This deskjob seems to be treating you well, you look good."
Behind her, Tedak cleared his throat and Rayna gave him a mock-glare in return. "My Romulan friend here has a problem," she started, "it seems this rift has been opened and our people are threating the Federation with a war, while being in Federation territory is an act of war on their end. You've got experience in dealing with our people.....any suggestions would be very welcome."

Voran hadn't expected it. He'd expected Jack to be surprised, confused maybe, but not angry.
"You lied to us, you lied to all of us." Said Jack, he looked betrayed.
"I had to lie Jack. I came to Earth in 1980, you think those people could handle having an extra-terrestrial on their planet? Even by the 22nd Century, Earth was still taking its first steps into the galaxy, if I'd revealed who I was, it could have contaminated human culture. You're a Starfleet officer, you know that we can't do that. Besides, I'd spen 150 years with humans, I went through I world war with them, I thought of myself as human, I still do."

Magellan listened to Captain Vorans report in quiet reflection. It was excellent news at the successful rescue... less so that it had antagonised the rift.
"Reinforce the Galaxy" he ordered Antilles, who brought the Lone Wolf, Copenhagen and Vanquisher into a defensive pattern about the Galaxy, one designed to both protect from both the Warbird and the Rift.
"Put me through to the Galaxy, inform Captain Voran I want him to question Logan about the rift. Hes been in it for the past 1000 years perhaps theres something of use to us. Next send a message to Ambassador Tedak. Tell him that now is the time to explain what is exactly in that rift - I very much doubt Rekak is going to be forthcoming."
"Messages sent sir" The Tac officer repsonded, he paused and then added, "I m picking up sub space disruptions they look like cloaks, yes we have 3 more Warbirds decloaking."
Magellan forget his place this time and acted before Captain Anitlles, "Raise Shields, ready weapons." he ordered as he moved to the centre of the bridge.
***
As the stand off built between the two empires something stirred within the rift. Gradually at first but then with exponential rapidity the rifts opening accelerated. The rift was always going to open its was part of the natural oscillations of it but the disruption of the rescue had quickened it. The Brenet were not ready.
Sovosh flexed excitedly, this would be his second foray. His second chance to taste the tantalisingly different exotic nature of null space. What lay outside their universe was a wonder to behold. A vast ocean of nothingness, well not nothing the Brenet were capable of detecting all the tiny impurities in space, but compared to the fluidic nature of their space its was something different. Most of his kind abhorred it. They disliked swimming in such empty nothingness, they prefered the fluid about their flexes and permeating their mebranes.
It was for this reason Sovosh was allowed on the foray. The foray occured everytime the rift opened and was a tradition among his people. A time to exact revenge upon those who had wrought pain. Few actually remebered the original incident but both revenge and tradition firgured heavily on the Brenets list of attributes.
Teh Brenet were not the only people of their realm to have ventured from Fludic Space some had taken the war with the Borg back into their own quadrant. In that instance the Brenet had been satisfied to let others deal with that mechanical beast, their own enemy came in green ships and tasted delicious... well to shovosh anyways.
In less than an hour the rift would be widen enough for him to escape, get out swim free find the enemy, devour them and return.

T'Val stood to the side watching the exchange between Voran and Jack, until the rescued officer punched his former commanding officer squarely on the jaw. "That is enough," she intervened, after Voran had tried to explain his situation, "our patient has gone through quite an ordeal. Perhaps explanations are best left waiting until he has rested some more."
She cast Voran a glance that meand she'd not take no for an answer. "Come back after your next dutyshift captain," she suggested, "the medical team will make certain your crewmember is made comfortable."
The Vulcan practically glared the commanding officer out of sickbay, before she turned towards their patient. "Calm down Mister Logan," she started, the sternness gone from her features, which were once more devoid of emotion. Except her eyes, they still held a sparkle of anger. "Please, what is the last thing you remember before the rift took you in?"
She continued to tuck her patient in, making sure he was comfortable and properly sedated. "Captain Voran means well," she added, "and he is not lying, this is the 24th century. You are aboard the USS Galaxy, a state of the art Federation vessel. When you are rested we will make sure that you are given access to all the information you need to bring you up to speed. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask but I do urge you to take rest. Your nervous system and brain cannot handle the amount of stress you are experiencing right now, and I am fearful of giving you too many tranquillizers and sedatives."

Loskene was feverishly busy in his office looking over Starbase ops, and in Admiral Lin's absence, there seemed to be no end to the parade of padds that magically found their way into his office every few minutes or so. He was not in a good mood to say the least, but a moment later his day suddenly brightened when he saw a very familiar sight enter into his office. Loskene looked up from the padds and a huge grin spread across his face.
"Rayna!" he exclaimed and got up from his chair and they exchanged pecks on the cheek.
"It's been a while since I've seen you," she smiled, keeping him at arm's length. "This deskjob seems to be treating you well, you look good."
"Bah, hardly. I've been working non-stop for the past few days. This work is even more taxing then when the Jefferson and Victory had to host the peace conference between the Polanites and Baltorian, now that-" Loskene was interrupted mid sentence when the man she was with cleared his throat.
Loskene did not have to read the Romulan man's mind to know that he wasn't in a particularly good mood, the man looked withered, frustrated and extremely tired.
"And I thought I was in a bad mood..." Loskene uttered quietly.
"My Romulan friend here has a problem," she started, "it seems this rift has been opened and our people are threating the Federation with a war, while being in Federation territory is an act of war on their end. You've got experience in dealing with our people.....any suggestions would be very welcome."
Loskene shuffled over to a window and peered out, thinking.
"Obviously the Romulans are a tough crowd to deal with.. Even thinking back on my past dealings with the Romulans leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. All I can think of is Cirrus Procae, which I'm positive you remember, Rayna. The Romulans were testing a particularly dangerous weapon, the Jefferson had to stop the weapon from being tested at all costs...And in the end it nearly killed us all. I would of course advise against anything drastic at this point, even if this is in Federation space, we have no time for a skirmish with the Romulans before that rift fully opens and God only knows what happens. I think the best bet is to find a way to compromise with them for now, band together and try to find a way to close that rift, and deal with the Romulans at a more...suitable juncture."
Loskene was about to add to his suggestion, but he began to feel a curious sensation in his head. It forced him to take a seat, and try to make sense of whatever it was he felt.
"Loskene, what is it, what's wrong?" Rayna asked concerned.
"I don't know, it feels familiar yet...I cannot explain it. I haven't felt something like this since I last came into contact with Fluidic space and another 8472, three or four years ago... Something isn't right. It's that rift...I can feel it. No wonder the Romulans are so hell bent on keeping it closed, what lies inside is truly something horrifying."
"What would that be, Loskene..." Rayna asked deeply concerned.
"I'm not sure on that either..What I do know is that it MUST remain closed, at any and all costs."

Rayna moved to her friend's side and guided him to the couch. "Are you sure you're all right?" she asked as she moved over to the replicator. "Vanilla milk-shake," she ordered, "large."
A large vanilla milk-shake appeared and Rayna shivered as she picked up the large cup. "Here," she said as she shoved it into Loskene's hands, "it'll make you feel better."
Tedak had pondered on what Loskene had said and finally it had sunk in: Loskene was the first person to actually agree with him. "Finally!" he exclaimed, startling them both, "finally someone who sees my point of view."
He wrung his hands nervously, his anxiety projected to both his firelizards who screeched in alarm. "We must get to that rift," he urged, "we must close it before it's too late. If so much as one of those beings escapes, we're in deep trouble."
He walked over to Loskene's desk console. "Lily, get Ezdreiana and Saarok to Loskene's office. Tell them it's urgent!"
Once the two diplomats were in, Tedak motioned for them to sit down. "The rift has been openened," he said solemnly, "and the creatures that live within the rift are about to escape. I don't know what these creatures are, but I have the feeling that Rear Admiral Loskene may know more about these creatures." He cast an appealing glance towards the shape-shifter admiral. "Admiral?"

Magellan reckoned that they just abput had tactical superiority over the Romulans but if it came to a fight he knew he would lose at least the two sabres and possibly incurr heavy damage on the Lone Wolf and the Galaxy.
It was a stalemate but it was one that perhaps they could work with.
"Captain Antilles, I m going to the Galaxy. I think it best we attempt a diplomatic soloution and I would prefer to that from an explorer ship than a war ship. I also want to meet this Logan."
"Is it safe to transport? we would both need to lower shields"
Magellan nodded,
"The Romulans are not in position yet I think we can risk it. If a fight breaks out I m countermanding standard procedure, command will not pass to the tactically superior vessel, it wil remain with me."
"Sir?"
"I am the ranking officer and Captain Voran on the Galaxy is a tacitcal expert and with lifetimes of experience. That will count for more than the mechanic of a ship"
"Understood. We'll beam you over now."
***
Magellan appeared on the Galaxys transporter pad and quickly assertained that Elarus was in sickbay. Deciding to see him soon he went to the bridge and ordered the galaxy crew to hail Rekak.
"Rekak, we have successfully rescued our crewman, we thank you for your patience. We understand the rift is damaged slightly."
"Slightly!" Rekak fumed, "You ve doomed many Romulan lives today Admiral."
Magellan ignored the comment.
"That is in the past now, we may still be able to prevent what ever it is you fear. I m arranging to consult my staff now. YOu are welcome to come aboard and we can discuss a way to seal the rift - perhaps permanently?"
Rekak thought on this a moment, Like Magellan he had doen the maths and realised that combat would be a bloddy affair and he needed his ships operational in order to face the creatures that were bound to escape from the rift.
"Very well Admiral I ll come aboard with my tactical and science officers."
"Excellent"
Magellan cut the line and turned to internal comms,
"Captain Voran Can I request a meeting in your conference lounge"
TAG VOran
"Actually I m alreday here, I ll explain when you get here, bring Logan, T Val and Mercy and any science staff you have."

"You lied to us, you lied to all of us." Jack said, he looked betrayed, no he was betrayed.
"I had to lie Jack. I came to Earth in 1980, you think those people could handle having an extra-terrestrial on their planet? Jack tried to punch him again, but this time he missed. His explaination was valid and Jack would come to understand it, but right now he had to face a universe where his family and friends did not exist. His children might still be alive, but he doubted it. There was nothing here for him except test and briefings by the brass. He had been out of action for over two hundred years, but he still knew how things worked.
"You know that I'm only going to call you Shawn?" Jack said looking at his old captain.
"Wouldn't have it anyother way," Shawn said before he was called away.
"Shawn tell me what's going on?" Jack said before his old friend left to presumbly save the day.

Loskene gladly took the cold glass filled with the shake and gulped it down.
"Mm. That hits the spot." Loskene sighed in a state of bliss.
Out of the corner of the room, the seemingly docile Ambassador Tedak erupted in excitement, causing the startled admiral to nearly toss the remains of his shake onto the floor.
He walked over to Loskene's desk console. "Lily, get Ezdreiana and Saarok to Loskene's office. Tell them it's urgent!
"Admiral?"
"I'm not entirely sure, and all I can really tell you is what I originally encountered. A strange, powerful, ancient force is what I felt. It's difficult to explain but these creatures seem to inhabit some form of fluidic realm similar to my own species. There have been certain legends among my people. I'm not sure of the relevance or the validity of them but one tells of a terrifying school of enormous beasts with fins. It is only considered a folktale, but it may just have some truth to it. What I'm sure of however, is that this is not a force to be reckoned with. To do so is to invite destruction on a scale this galaxy has not seen in millenia."

"Ezdreiana, Saarok Tedak requires your presence in his office," Lily said.
"On our way," Ezdreiana said speaking for both of them. She had a feeling that Tedak was going to tell them what they had been pressing for. Once she arrived she was surprised to see Rear Admiral Loskene in the office, before she could say anything Tedak began speaking.
"The rift has been opened," he said solemnly, "and the creatures that live within the rift are about to escape. I don't know what these creatures are, but I have the feeling that Rear Admiral Loskene may know more about these creatures." He cast an appealing glance towards the shape-shifter admiral. "Admiral?"
The admiral began to explain to them what he knew of the creatures inside the rift. It was astonishing to know that the admiral's people had a genuine concern about the creatures.
"What do these things do?" Ezdreiana asked," if there so dangerous why haven't we heard of these creatures in the pass?" It then hit her, why Tedak had refused to talk to them about what he knew.
"The Romulan's have faced them before?" Ezdreiana asked, already knowing the answer.

The rift widened agonisingly slowly for Shovosh, he feared otheres of his kind might join him and that he may have to share the carnage with others. He swam up to the opening portal to the other place. He could sense, nearly taste the other side.
He extended his senses out through the widening crack, like most inhabitants of fluidic space he had a certain level of telepathy, a form completely alien to those flesh little beings on the other side.
He was pleased to detect 3 enemy vessels on the other side, but could also detect other cans. These were unknown. He focused his attention on them and realised they matched the tiny thing that had been embedded in the rift all those centuries. Curious he let his mind wander towards the ship, comfortale in the knowledge that no-one on that side would be able to detect him telepath or not.

Stuart was in his office looking over medical records on his terminal. A weird sensation was coming over him.
T'Val entered the office to give a short report on Jack Logan. Stuart had to concentrate to listen...
...his mind travelled a short distance through the black emptiness of the void and then he was here...a humanoid female was addressing him as Stuart...
"Stuart! Are you listening? Doesn't seem like you are quite here."
...the language...somehow he was able to understand what she had said...then he realized that he was able to formulate similar words within this mind he was in... "Uh, yes. I was just lost in my own thoughts. You were saying?"...
...he listened to her all the while admiring and imagining what it would seem like to be able to devour a delectable specimen such as this one...of course he had to wait until he was finally free from the rift...soon, real soon...until then it seemed that he had the ability to move around amongst them in this frail body...he had to be careful lest they discover him...

ooc: Logan did you miss my post/tags from July 2nd?
ic:
T'Val watched Logan closely, and made a silent note to contact a counselor to have a little chat with their time-displaced guest. For now all she could do was try to keep him calm through sedation and allow him access to the computer to catch up with current time and procedures. The Vulcan also requested a security detail to be assigned to Logan; for his own safety she had reassured her patient.
Excusing herself, T'Val walked into Mercy's office, placing a PADD on his desk. "Here is the report you requested on our guest," she started, then noticed he wasn't quite listening. "Stuart, are you listening?" she querried, shaking him gently, "it does not seem as though you are all here."
Stuart did his best to keep his attention on her, but T'Val wasn't quite convinced that he was interested in her report. "Stuart, did you hear at all what I was saying?" she finally asked, after she was done delivering her brief report.
"Uh, yes. I was just lost in my own thoughts. You were saying?" Mercy spoke up. It looked like she had his attention now, but he still looked to be miles away.
T'Val cast him a confused frown. "You have been working too many hours," she finally concluded, throwing his inattention on tiredness rather than other distraction. She drew closer to him, lifted his face up to her then gently kissed him. They were alone in his office without prying eyes from the nursing staff, so she wasn't too worried on anyone seeing this act of emotion.
"You and me, holodeck three at the end of my shift, " she whispered, smiling coyly at him, "and you bring the wine. Now, however we have to report to the briefingroom. Apparently they are encountering problems with this rift, and now they need us to help them. I wonder what we, as medical staff, can do to help."
When Mercy didn't react, she pulled him to his feet and struck him once on his cheek. That seemed to have effect as he looked down on her, hurt in his eyes. "I am sorry," she told him, "but you were not reacting to anything I said. Now, we have to report to the briefingroom, we are already late."
She took his hand and pulled him along, grabbing the PADD from his desk on the way out. On their way out, she beckoned several nurses and analysts from the laboratories to follow them. "Captain Voran, you requested our presence," she started upon entering the briefingroom, "but I am not too certain what the medical staff could do to help close the rift."

"The romulans have faced them before?" Ezdreiana asked.
Tedak nodded bleakly. "It seems so," he confessed, "though I don't know when." He raised his hands in a frustrated and helpless fashion when he encountered disbelieving glances only. "I can't help it that my government thinks I'm too Federation minded and won't tell me everything I need to know. I am not authorized to tell you anything on this matter and I've been practically ordered to side with my own government. However much I want to help you, I can't!"
The frustration of the Romulan diplomat was evident, as was his helplessness. "I've already told you too much as it is," he managed, looking like a broken man. He sagged down in the nearest chair and absentmindedly stroked Nut's back as the brown landed on his lap. It had been days since he's had any sleep and with the Tal Shiar hovering over him like a vulture. He knew his office was bugged, and there was nothing Lily could do to block them.
Therefor, being in Loskene's office was a plus, and from the looks of things, Loskene knew about these beings as well. "Admiral Lin must be warned," Tedak muttered under his breath, afraid that anyone might overhear that was not supposed to hear, "but I can't warn him!"
He gazed from Ezdreiana to Saarok, though the glance at Saarok was one filled with apprehension and fear and he actually shoved his seat a few feet away from the Vulcan diplomat. Then he gazed at Loskene and Rayna. "But I must," he then said, "I should take my shuttle and head to them...but I could use some help." Then he glanced at Saarok again. "But not you! I don't want you near me...not after what you did to me!"
He glanced back at Loskene, almost pleading. "You must authorise the departure of my diplomatic shuttle," he requested, "I must go to the Galaxy...I'm risking everything now to help the Federation prevent a war. I'm risking my family too."

OOC: Sorry Healer T'Val I've must of missed your post.
Jack became angry and very vocal when Shawn refused to answer his questions. He felt very lost and just wanted this horrible dream to end. Jack once again tried to get off the bed, but was stopped by a Vulcan women.
"Calm down Mister Logan," she started, the sternness gone from her features, which were once more devoid of emotion. Except her eyes, they still held a sparkle of anger. "Please, what is the last thing you remember before the rift took you in?"
"I was waiting to be transported to the Stingray," Jack responded surprised that the Vulcan was even talking to him. Jack had been treated like an outsider when he had moved to Vulcan so many years ago, but the one in front of her didn't seem to mind him at all.
"Don't worry, I've had it much worse," Jack responded again surprised that the Vulcan would express concern," and I would like to take you up on your offer."
Jack had already accepted the fact that he was lost two centuries in the future, but he could still find out what happened to his family. To everyone on the ship Jack's knowledge of Federation technology was ancient, but hopefully he could help these people close the rift that robbed him of his life.

...all Shovosh ever felt before was the need to destroy these humanoid sacks of solid matter, but since he had been in the presence of this creature before him, there was a meriment of feelings he couldn't explain...
...her head reached forward to his and her vocal orifice opened but no sound came out...instead a protrusion extended and insisted that his own orifice be opened to receive what she was offering...
...the sensations within this humanoids' body that Shovosh was in rippled from top to bottom...it seemed that a new type of hunger was awakened from within as a response of this communion...
...her words were lost to him as he was still contemplating this overwhelming sensation that had come over him...then came the sudden pain as she... ~T'Val~ ...he remembered from the brain he was occupying...as she had struck him then pulled him along to leave the confines of this area...
...they had entered this briefing room as it was called...a Captain Voran, who seemed to be their leader, was explaining what needed to be done to close the rift... ~NOOOO!!! I can't allow that to happen~ ...

[before joining Mercy]
T'Val nearly smiled at her patient. "Very well mister Logan, take a few hours rest and I shall join you again with information you need after the briefing with Captain Voran. We need to close that rift, or risk a war."
<Logan>
[briefingroom] T'Val had directed her collegue/lover towards the briefingroom, somewhat embarassed at having had to strike him to get his attention. Part of her handprint was starting to show on his right cheek. She knew he could phase out just like that if he were deep in thought about one subject or the other, but it wasn't quite like him to act this dazed.
Yet, there was something about his demeanor that she found endearing. His response to her kiss was more passionate than ever. Then a thought echoed through her mind and she knew it came from Mercy. ~NOOOO!!! I can't allow that to happen~
Her gaze snapped to him, while she tried to keep her attention on Voran. ~allow what to happen?~ she enquired, not quite understanding what he meant. Was he referring to something that'd happened between them?
She returned her attention to the captain. "Captain, did USS Voyager not once close a rift? I believe they used tachyon emissions, or something similar...." She wasn't quite certain on the source of emission that closed the rift, but she was quite certain it had been Voyager who'd done it.

Loskene thought it over for a moment.
"....Very well, ambassador. I know very well that I am risking my job now, but if what I sense is correct, I'll be out of a job anyway, as well as billions of others. I'll make the arrangements, you start walking sir."
