"I was assigned to keep things in order Commander, and it SO wouldn't be fair for you to keep control on your first day, what you can do though is head to sickbay, talk to Holi, get checked out and then report back, how does that sound ?" Kanz looked at him almost in disbelief, "No offence, Commander, but that doesn't sound good at all. I don't know if this is the way this place is normally run, but on my last ship the officers with medical experience worked in sickbay and those with command experience stayed in command." She paused for a second as she realised she'd started ranting, but it was too late to stop now. "Now my suggestion would be for you to go to sickbay and help the injured people, while I stay here and head things up. At least this way no one's been taken off what they were doing to command." Kanz paused again for a second before finishing off, "Like I said, that's just a suggestion. But we can make it an order if you'd prefer." Not daring to look at the doctor, L'Ola turned her attention to the console nearest to her and started to get up any information she could think of. "Incoming transmission" a voice from behind her announced. "Put it through" Kanz responded, still not daring to look and see if Storey was still there. A garbled message came through on the speakers. "Can you decode it?" "Yes Sir" =/\=Black Tulip if you are receiving, Colonel Q2 has beamed to the Yacht, posing as Admiral Drew. Please advise, it is taking too long for Q2 to contact us.=/\= There was a moment's silence as the message ended and L'Ola thought about what to do next. There was only one real option. "Can you code a message to send back instructing them to return to the ship? We need all the heads we can get on this." *And if Q2 by some miracle tries to make contact he'll have to get through to us here* she added silently.

John looked at Kanz, His fury boiled up, and he went to her, "i would like to speak to you, in the ready room now"
And lead the way.
Once the door closed, before she had anything to say, he started
"You listen to me, i was assigned to command, before the Admiral left, now you will do as i say, Commander, and to backfire your argument you are the Chief Scientist, so you belong in the science lab, so that doesn't work, you are to report to sickbay at once, and as Chief Medical Officer, if you refuse to go, you will be quarantine to your quarters till you get checked out by myself or Holi, so it is your choice, so make it now. And another thing, whoever is placed in command is in command, so now you've disobeyed a direct order from your commanding officer as well as taking command when it was not passed to you, so you make your choice"

Deciding this wasn't the time for screaming matches L'Ola left the room without saying a word. If he didn't want her helping where she could that was fine, but she wasn't about to get in the way in sickbay. Her limited knowledge of medical procedures would be more of a hinderence than a help with multiple injured people around.
Heading straight off the Bridge she went down a level in the turbolift. Accessing the first wall terminal she got to, Kanz looked up where her quarters were located. Luckily she'd been assigned them already or there could've been problems. Having asked the computer for directions she managed to find the right place easy enough.
L'Ola headed straight for the chair and collapsed in it. She made a mental note to collect her things from the compartment they were stored in by the shuttle bays. But for now she just intended to sit there, and think about how she'd already managed to get herself into a mess.

Finally released from sickbay, Antoinette roamed the large starship, trying to find something to do. She was used to her father being away on missions, even dangerous ones, but he'd never been away this long nor without at least sending her a message every once in a while. So far, she'd heard nothing and she was starting to get worried.
As she strolled through the corridors, she picked up hushed conversations about the doctor and a new science officer having exchanged harsh words. The young girl stopped to listen and wondered how the otherwise gentle doctor could go off on a new person like that.
However, since she was barely fourteen years old, it was unlikely anyone would tell her what had happened. And she wasn't allowed to go to the bridge either to find out. Then, a young officer dressed in red stopped and looked down at her. "You're Flanigan's daughter aren't you?" he asked.
Stunned, the girl nodded, wondering why on earth an ensign would stop and talk to her, let alone recognise her.
"I got a message from starfleet command, that needs to be passed on to the doctor. Seems they made a little mistake but I can't bear having to tell him." He handed her the PADD. "Doc likes you...would you?"
Tony stared at the message. "We got a new captain?" she asked.
"Acting captain," the ensign smiled, "with the first officer very ill in sickbay again and the admiral still missing, they decided to assign someone for command. And the most qualified person at the moment is her." He tapped at the PADD. "You could go and find her too, actually, then I'll go tell the doc."
"Sure," Tony answered, "just who do I tell authorised me to do this?" She was glad to finally have something constructive to do.
"Ensign David Saunders, operations officer," he replied with a charming smile. "I'll go see the doc now, you find this Kanz person and tell her okay?"
Tony smiled brightly. "Yes sir!" she said, saluting smartly, then ran off.
Saunders shook his head, marveling at the girl's energy. "I wish I was that young again," he sighed, as he continued his way to the bridge. It was the last known location of the doctor and he'd received the message on special communications, straight to his quarters. Why, was beyond him.
"Doc, I got some news for you," he called, flagging the doctor's attention. "seems starfleet has assigned someone for command." He handed the doctor a copy of the PADD he had given to Antoinette Flanigan.
Meanwhile, Tony had found her way to Kanz' quarters and signaled her presence. "Hi," she said softly, when she was called in, "I'm Antoinette Flanigan. My dad's the counselor here. I have a message from you, I was asked to give it to you." She held out the PADD to the commander.

Blood splattered out of Q2's mouth as another powerful swing struck his jaw. He grimaced, and then smiled painfully at his attacker. He'd lost track of how many times he'd been hit, or indeed how long he'd been on the ship, but he was pretty certain that on the floor in amongst the blood were at least two of his teeth. He rolled his eyes; some rescue mission this had turned out to be. He had to admit that Flanigan seemed to have got it right. It was a stupid plan, carried out by a foolhardy marine who had thought himself invincible.
Another blow, this time an upwards swing to his chin, sent the thought flying out of his head replaced simply by pain.
The admiral that he had set out to save was sat on the other side of the room, and Q2 reflected that this was perhaps not the best circumstances under which to meet his new CO for the first time. From what he had seen before he'd put the blindfold on, Elron probably had a couple of inches in height over the marine, and looked almost vulcan in appearance due to shape of his face and eyebrows, but this was negated somewhat by the pale blue skin, which clarified that he was certainly no vulcan. Possibly an offshoot race Q2 pondered, before yet again, his thought process was halted. For variety the chosen attack was now a kick to the gut, which took the el aurian somewhat by surprise, heightening the effectiveness.
Apparently these bad guys didn't like him. He assumed it must be on principle, as he was sure that if they just sat down and got to know him, they'd find that Q2 was actually a very likable chap, and a jolly good fellow. However, as this seemed unlikely, the marine come counselor had resigned himself to not making any new friends today. Except perhaps for Elron. Though given how effective his plan was working out, it didn't seem any more likely. The assailant had switched back to the roundhouse punches to his face, this time dealing two in quick succession, painfully aggravating Q2's neck as it swung one way and then the other.
During the whole assault, he hadn't heard even a murmur from Elron, but now his voice struck out across the room. It was firm and calm, but with a strong hint of resignation. “Stop.”
Q2's eyes flicked back and forth underneath the blindfold, aimlessly looking about to try and find out if it would pause the assault. Apparently it did, for no more blows materialised. Deckhand's deckhand was waiting. Q2 couldn't tell if it was for Elron to say more, or for Deckhand himself to respond.
As Deckhand started to speak, Q2 came to the rather obvious determination it was the latter. However, he did have severe drowsiness and a hell of a lot of pain in his defense for taking so much pride from a seemingly obvious conclusion. “Yes admiral. And I'm assuming that you truly are an admiral, as it would take a ruddy good disguise to impersonate you.”
“I will give you the codes.”
“Your mind has been swayed?” It was clear that Deckhand was struggling to keep the excitement from his voice. This must be the reason for the kidnapping in the first place. Not to get a nice ransom, but to get command codes. Q2 wondered why they wanted them, and why Elron would sacrifice them for something so small as a marine's life. Marines had willingly died for far less. Unfortunately, the only words that Q2's mouth could frame after taking so much damage were “ooaannkk oooo iiikk”, a valiant but failed attempt at 'Don't do it.'.
Deckhand, or Deckhand's deckhand laughed at him, and he grunted as a boot connected with his kidney, which in turn triggered a coughing fit. He tasted and felt more than a little blood as he tried to bring his lungs under control. Finally he managed to breath cleanly again, but it would seem that he had missed some of the conversation between the pirates and his commanding officer during that time, as their talk now seemed to have progressed.
“You have no need for my crewman, in return for the codes, I want his release.” Elron spoke like a man condemning himself to death. And well he might.
“But admiral, he went to so much effort to get here that it would seem wrong to let him go with such ease.” Deckhand returned mockingly, before fortifying his tone. “Besides, if we let him go, he simply alerts Starfleet that you are handing the codes over and they either change them or disable them. So you see, he has managed to get himself inexorably involved.” Now his voice flitted back to playful mocking. “We might stop hitting him though.”
“Then you won't be getting these codes I'm afraid.” Elron said, his voice even more resigned now. He must know that his stubbornness was almost certainly imposing a death sentence on the marine, but Q2 was in full support of his admiral's decision. More so than he had been of exchanging his freedom for the codes.
“How about we propose a new scenario Admiral.” Deckhand's voice had moved again, and yet once more Q2 hadn't heard his footsteps. “Instead of us attacking your little friend here, perhaps its time that you took a turn. After all, our arms are starting to ache, and you haven't had any use for yours.” Q2 was starting to get used to his changes in tone, this time from the playful to plain aggressive. “Now move!”
The sound of Elron being frogmarched towards the marine were clear, the short, forced footsteps being followed by a longer, more confident stride. They came to a stop right in front of where Q2 was tied to his seat. “Now admiral, you can hit him.” Back to playful again.
“Or..?” Elron's question was less one of obstinance than of expectation; he knew that they would have an answer, and he knew that he'd be forced into this. He just wanted to hear it, to put off the inevitable.
“Or we'll hit him. And you can bet that we'll manage to hit him harder and in worse places than you are likely to. So hit him.” Aggressive and authoritative this time.
Q2 was thinking, his mind whirring as he tried to work out what was happening and whether he could do anything. For the first time in a long while, he knew exactly where Deckhand was, and was pretty certain that he had a weapon of some kind, as presumably this had been necessary to move Elron. Deckhand's deckhand was presumably still behind him, as he made significantly more noise than his boss, so the el aurian would have heard him move. That put both bad guys within his range. Unfortunately, he was still tied to the chair, and the weapon was probably still aimed at Elron, but these were now merely problems to be overcome. His thoughts were broken momentarily as he felt a light punch from an open fist slap against his cheek.
This had obviously not been enough to satisfy Deckhand, as another far more powerful blow landed from behind him. “Come on admiral, you can do better than that.” Yet again, playful, but with more irritation edging into it. Deckhand was starting to get angry, which could lead to him getting sloppy. Q2 bode his time.
Another punch from Elron, this time a decent hit; nothing like the ones he had been receiving, but Q2 embellished the strike by swinging his head slightly more than necessary. This time there was no comment from Deckhand; it had obviously met with his approval. A third punch, slightly harder again, and this time Q2 threw himself powerfully to the side with the stroke, overbalancing his chair, and landing himself painfully onto the floor. It had seemed a better plan before his head had thudded onto the metal plating. He mentally crossed his fingers.
Time seemed to take an eternity to pass. Deckhand was laughing, “Now Admiral, that was a far better attempt. Though I feel our pretend friend might be playing it up a bit to lighten his load.” His boot thlunked onto the ground in front of the marine's head, and Q2 acted.
Trapping Deckhand's feet in between his head and his tied hands, Q2 used the fixed point as leverage to swing his legs powerfully around behind him, toppling Deckhand's deckhand perfectly as planned. His legs continued their swing, coming to an uncomfortable halt as they smacked into the bottom of his chair, but the adrenaline had kicked in now, and the marine barely noticed the pain. His plan now relied on two things, Deckhand being caught off guard, and Elron being quick enough to take advantage of the situation. Otherwise Q2 suspected he might not have long left to ponder his failure.
Thankfully it seemed that both boxes had been ticked, as he felt Deckhand fall in his grasp, a gasp of effort sounding more like Elron than the assailant coming as he did. Moments later, the two superiors were grappling on the floor, while Q2 pressed his head against the floor, pushing the blindfold off his eyes. With the world back in view, the marine wasted no time in getting to his feet, albeit with them still tied together, and then hopped towards Deckhand's deckhand.
He dropped back down, landing both his knees on his tormentor's head. It was rather more brutal than he would usually be, but this fight didn't seem to have the luxuries he usually was afforded, most significantly those of resources and backup. With the one assailant almost certainly disabled, there was now the small matter of his commanding officer grappling with Deckhand.
Casting his gaze around for some kind of weapon, or even something with which to release his bonds, Q2's eyes fell upon the now fallen phaser rifle. Again, he hopped across the room, avoiding the rolling figures both digging and pushing at each other. He fell to his knees, and then backwards until he was lying on his back with the gun underneath him. He struggled and fiddled with it between his hands until he managed to get a decent grip on it, and aimed it in the vague direction of the fighting men. With it already set to heavy stun, he fired it, striking them both. As they went limp, they fell away from each other, leaving Q2 in silence at last. He dropped the rifle with a clang against the floor and finally allowed himself to breathe.
He knew that he should be working now to secure his own release, the magnetic lock would most likely be triggered by a device kept on Deckhand's person, and he should confirm the status of Deckhand's deckhand. But all he could do was kneel on the floor and sob. He didn't know why, he couldn't control it at all, but wave after wave of tremors shook his body as he knelt, head resting against the floor, and sobbed painfully.
He was in fact still like that forty minutes later when the shuttle beamed the four of them off the yacht, and started back to the Black Tulip. Q2 hadn't even realised that he had engaged his 'success' beacon, it had been completely subconscious. The shuttle, which had been on route back the Black Tulip, having picked up Commander Kanz's orders had swung back around to retrieve them, and the two assailants were now safely shackled at the back of the shuttle, while Q2 was trying to fight off Flanigan, who was now armed with a sedative, telling him that he must rest.
The el aurian finally gave him, concluding that he'd won the last argument, and the other counselor was unlikely to allow that to happen twice in a row. He smiled; looking forward, for once, to waking up in sickbay.

James watched four columns of light appear on the shuttle, and once they were fully transformed into persons, Tholon secured the two enemy soldiers in the aft section of the shuttle, binding them thoroughly, then activating a forcefield just in case.
Meanwhile, James had managed to lift Elron's unconscious form into one of the vacant seats, strapping him in as carefully as possible. At first glance, the Avari seemed unharmed, but closer examination showed that he was stunned. Turning, James glanced down at Q2 but held back an "I told you so", he wasn't in the mood for jibes.
"Can you stand?" he asked the injured marine, "otherwise just lie still where you are." He pressed a flat hand on the marine's chest. "Stay still marine," he ordered, "you've done your job and you succeeded. Now, let me see to your injuries." To his surprise, the marine didn't argue.
"Tholon, set course for the Black Tulip, maximum speed, and radio in that we've got a medical emergency. Admiral Elron is unconscious due to a phaser stun and Colonel Q2 shows signs of torture."
The Andorian nodded as he slipped into the pilot's seat, leaving the Human counselor to deal with the two injured. "ETA to BT is thirty minutes," he reported, "you think you can hold out that long?"
James gazed down at Q2, a look of pity crossing his face. "You've been a fool Q2," he whispered, while bandaging his injuries, putting analgesic creme on the lacerations on his face. "Brave, but a fool. You should've let me go. Yes you got him back but look what they did to you." As gently as possible, he saw to the other injuries. "Cracked ribs, hairline fracture in the sternum, internal bleeding. Poor man, what did they do to you?"

"Computer, skip to next track" The music changed from a slow and almost sombre tune to an upbeat song with an impressive rhythm behind it. With a satisfied smile L'Ola turned back to the PADD she was reading. She was curled up in her chair, looking suspiciously ball shaped. And considering the recent argument she'd started she was incredibly relaxed. Much of this relaxation, it had to be said, owed itself to her adoptive parents who, during her recent stay at home, had reiterated the importance of meditation. But even they would not be able to deny that if it were not for the surprisingly funny story she had downloaded L'Ola would still be caught up in real world problems. Unfortunately the real world reasserted itself sooner than she had hoped as someone rang on her door. Rolling her eyes she put the PADD down and called over to the door, "Come in". She watched with interest as a young looking girl walked in. "Hi, I'm Antoinette Flanigan. My dad's the counselor here. I have a message from you, I was asked to give it to you." L'Ola took the PADD with interest. Who could possibly be giving her messages already? As she read it she gulped and nearly dropped the PADD in shock. That couldn't be right. That really couldn't. Acutely aware that the messenger was still hovering in the general area, Kanz snapped herself back into focus. "Take a seat if you want" she motioned to the seat next to her, "Unless you're in a hurry to get anywhere else it would be kind of nice to get to know someone who lives here." While she was speaking her true sentiments, L'Ola was also playing for time. The last thing she wanted was to go up to the Bridge to assess the situation before news had reached Dr Storey. She really hoped he wouldn't react too badly. That and she hoped someone would find the Admiral soon. She hadn't counted on ending up as Acting Captain on her first day back.

Thirty minutes later, the shuttle was on final approach to the Tulip and Tholon called in for sickbay to be on alert. While still holding Q2 down on his seat, James leaned sideways to look out the window. The bay doors were opening and Tholon smoothly piloted the shuttle in, allowing it to be taken by the tractorbeam to set it down in it's 'parkingspot'.
"Good work marine," Flanigan praised the Andorian, "report to the bridge to whoever is in command and get them a mission report. I will take these two to sickbay." He motioned towards the Avari and the El-Aurian..
The counselor tapped his combadge. "Computer, medical emergency, three to beam directly to sickbay." Seconds later, the surroundings of the shuttlecraft were replaced by the serenity of sickbay. Nurses rushed towards them, carrying Q2 and Elron off to a biobed. "I'm all right," James protested when he was hauled to his feet, "help them. I'm uninjured!"
"Let me be the judge of that," Holi snapped as she touched her combadge. "Doctor Storey, report to sickbay, we've severely injured!"
James Flanigan stood impatiently as the EMH scanned him. "Done?" he finally asked and at her curt nod, he raced out of sickbay. He had his own reports to file and he wondered who was in command now that Disasterman was apparently still unconscious in sickbay.
"A Commander Kanz is supposed to be in command," Tholon reported, when he entered the bridge, "but I haven't yet paged her. I thought I'd wait for you."
James nodded as he took his own seat, in absence of the senior counselor. "Commander Kanz, report to the bridge," he called, tapping in a sequence on the armrest of the captain's chair.

=/\= Commander Kanz, report to the Bridge =/\= An unfamiliar voice called over the Comm. But then most voices would be unfamiliar for a while. She tapped her badge, "On my way."
Stopping only to remind herself of directions to the Bridge, Kanz made her way back through the unfamiliar corridors. She was trying hard not to be nervous but couldn't stop herself. What kind of scene would greet her?
Taking a deep breath, L'Ola stepped onto the Bridge full of confidence, at least that's how she looked. She looked around to try to work out who had called her. When it wasn't immediately obvious she walked over to counselor sat by the Captain's chair. "Commander Kanz reporting as requested."
The officer nodded at her, "Thank you. I'm Commander Flanigan. I believe Starfleet has temporarily placed you in command."
She recognised the voice and realised she'd managed to report to the correct person. She also recognised the name from a discussion with Doctor Storey. "It seems that way. Was your away mission successful, Commander?"
"We were able to rescue Admiral Elron, yes. He is now in sickbay with serious injuries and so currently not fit to resume command."
The comment seemed pointed, as if to say L'Ola would have to accept that this did have to happen. Hopefully the other senior officers would seem this accepting of what now seemed to be a very temporary command situation. "Well done. Unless anyone can tell me a reason otherwise, I think we should head to Bellicose. Give the ship and crew time to recover from this."
No one seemed to make any objections in the gap that Kanz left, so she sat down in the Captain's chair and looked at the navigations officer on duty, "Set course for Starbase Bellicose and engage when ready." She slouched down a little in the chair making herself comfy for the trip back. She smiled, even though her first mission on this ship was ending it felt like the adventure was just beginning.

OOC: I am ever so sorry guys, i've had a hellish time at work with staff walking out, and staff shortages and all this crap, i've just been so busy doing 12 hr shifts that when i get home all i do is flop. Forgive me ?
IC:
John looked at the PADD and shrugged, 'oh well' he thought, and traipsed down to sickbay, he was taking a very slow walk as he was thinking when all of a sudden Holi's voice barked at him =/\="Doctor Storey, report to sickbay, we've severely injured!"=/\= John grew alert and replied =/\="On my way Holi!"=/\=
John raced down the corridors and ran into sickbay "Holi report!" He said as he entered his domain "What's happened?"
"Admiral Elron is back, shot with a phaser by the looks of things, and Colonel Q2 has been tortured according to the away team, and needs to be looked at by yourself, i can deal with the others, so go"
John nodded and rushed over to Q2 who was out cold on a bio bed, he scanned him and frowned at the results, he called out "holi? Who sedate him?"
"no idea Doctor, he was like that when he arrived"
"Right ..."
John hunted around the worktop for a moment and pulled what was need some Ephinerine, he injected it into the sleeping Colonel who immediately came round and looked at peace seeing the walls of sickbay.
"Colonel, do you know where you are?" The Colonel nodded "I am going to give you some pain relief and then i want you to rest here for a few hours until holi or myself lets you go, do you understand?" Again another nod, "Good, now i am going to fix you right up, so don't worry about a thing"
John moved the work table around to his side, and began repairing the broken bones, as those were the easiest, holding the bone re generator over the effected areas he heard the colonel moan slightly as the bones knitted together "Don't worry Colonel you're in the best of hands"
his brow furrowed as he concentrated on his work, it was a delicate procedure, too long and his bones would become weak and break again, not long enough, his bones would become weak and break, so it was a difficult task.
After about fifteen minutes, he stopped the treatment, and scanned the Colonel, all broken bones were mended, now for the hemorrhaging, ProtoAminos and some Coagulants would do the trick, once the blood had clotted he could easily remove the clots using the transporter and a marker.
John injected the required drugs and then a sedative to allow the drugs to work.
John walked away from the now resting colonel and started writing on a PADD, he beckoned Holi into his office and spoke to her "He shows signs of trauma, and a few contusions and lacerations all over his body by the looks of things, keep an eye on him, and let me know if he gets better or worse, also find out who gave him that sedative cause I'd like to thank them, it might have just saved his life. Cracked ribs, hairline fracture in the sternum, internal hemorrhaging, what on earth went on?! I've done his broken bones, and injected some ProtoAminos to help the internal hemorrhaging, but only time can tell." Holi sighed
"Monsters" he heard her say as she walked back into the sickbay to treat her patients, John looked at his PADD and remembered Commander Kanz.
He tapped his cmbadge =/\="Commander Kanz please report to sickbay"=/\=
<Commander?>

James watched the young woman's reaction after John's voice resounded over the intercom. He was certain she wouldn't appreciate being called away from the bridge right now, but if a doctor called you to sickbay... The counselor was immensely relieved that it wasn't him that was called to sickbay, even if he had to restrain himself from going there because he wanted to see how Elron and Q2 were coping.
The Human counselor felt a strong attraction towards the El-Aurian marine counselor, even though he wasn't quite ready to admit it yet. And thus, he would stay away from sickbay because he couldn't even trust his own feelings right now. He felt they were clouded because of the close proximity aboard the shuttle, as well as the situation back then.
"Commander," he started, probing her mood, "may I suggest you respond to his call? You really don't want the good doctor more angry than he might be already."
When she didn't respond, he tapped his own combadge. "Doctor if we can indulge in your patience, the commander is currently unable to respond, but she'll be down shortly. I'll drag her down if I have to, but she'll be down shortly. Otherwise you might have to come up here."
James signed off before the doctor could respond, not wanting to hear him growl. The doctor and him had hit off on the wrong foot, and they didn't quite get along. At least, that was James' impression of the 'relationship' between the two men. "You don't want him to come up here," he warned Kanz, "the doctor is a very moody man, though very serious about doing his job, and doing it well."

"Patience my backside, I'll give you bloody patience" John moaned as the communications were cut off, "Holi, i am off to the bridge to get Commander Kanz down here, using force if i must"
John strode off, he HATED being told to be patient, John ignored all crew members on his way to the bridge, he got into the turbo lift and ordered his destination. John composed himself, stood up straight and walked onto the bridge. He walked straight over to the Commanders, and said "Commander Kanz, sickbay NOW, Commander Flanigan, my office, NOW, and no arguments, you both do as i say now, or you're removed from active duty, get it ?"

James pursed his lips, his entire bodylanguage showing annoyance as he listened to the doctor's rant. However, taking one second look at the doctor also told him that he'd carry out his threat if he and Kanz didn't obey his order.
Having been a first officer himself, he knew that if a doctor, the chief medical officer in particular, threatened to remove someone from command, he could do so, provided he had good reasons to back his orders up. He also knew that, while Kanz was in command, Doctor Storey had every right to find her medically unfit to command. In which case, command would likely befall on the next person in rank.
"Commander, might I suggest we obey his orders?" he whispered at Kanz, gently ushering her towards the turbolift. He ignored the doctor altogether as he stepped into the waiting car, which brought them down to sickbay within seconds. Once in sickbay, Kanz was told to report to Holi for her medical, while James was marched into the doctor's office.
James yanked his arm free from the doctor's strong grip. "Doctor, really," he started, "was that neces-" He fell silent when he caught Storey's glare and clenched his own jaws to hold back an angry retort. He took a few deep breaths, keeping his gaze on the doctor. "What do you want from me doctor," he finally asked, crossing his arms across his chest, steeling himself for the response. "If I haven't thanked you yet for saving my daughter's life, I'm sorry. I'll say thank you if you want, I'm truly grateful, she's all I have..." He fell silent again, opened his mouth to continue, then thought the wiser of it and closed it again, waiting for the doctor to respond.

"I gave the Commander a Direct order to report to me for her physical, who over-ruled that. You did. You are a counselor in MY department, i am your SUPERIOR officer in that regard, and if i give an order, it is to be obeyed. And about your daughter i do not mind, seeing her well is thanks enough, i do mind about my authority being undermined, what do you say to that Counselor ?"

Turning his back on the doctor, James barely managed to contain an infuriated response. "I didn't overrule anything doctor, at least not that I'm aware of. In case you hadn't noticed, I've just been on an away mission, and I've barely been back for a few hours." He paused. "I haven't even had time to properly greet my daughter. I was stuck here in sickbay with Colonel Q2 and Admiral Elron, awaiting release from sickbay."
He gazed out the office window, watching the medical staff tend to the Avari admiral on the other side of sickbay. "And I answer to Colonel Q2, who is my immediate superior, first, before answering to you." He remained silent for several seconds, before adding a curt "sir" to his statement. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I do have work to attend to, especially with the colonel still indisposed."

"We are not finished here, you will listen to me Commander, and yes you ARE an officer under MY command as you are a member of my department, as since the Colonel is currently indisposed ... Do i make myself clear ?"

James sighed. "Crystal," he answered, though he remained facing the window. "So what is it you want doctor? Obviously you don't want a medical exam or I'd be on a biobed now, so there's something else you need from me?"
The counselor walked towards the still closed door of the office. "Otherwise I will be tending to my duties now. I still have a report to file about our away mission, and I have to log a protest against a few actions of Colonel Q2 during said away mission."

John smiled, "i wanted you to know where you stand, and i wanted to let you know that i know something about Q2 you should know."
John sat down at his desk and said "Give up if i were you Counselor, i can sense your interest in the Colonel, but give up now if i were you"

Turning, James raised one eyebrow at the doctor, his eyes still seething with fury. "Really?" He leaned back against the wall. "And what interest would that be? He's my superior officer, and a marine by training. That does make an interesting combination."
Seeing that the doctor was unlikely to bite, he sighed. "All right, what do you know about the colonel that I don't? Other than that he's very long-lived?"

John sighed, "AJ, just look at him, he's not that way inclined, you'll hurt yourself if you try to carry on, and i can't see that happen to you"
John stood up and placed his hand on his shoulder awaiting his response.

James shook his head in denial. "I have no idea what you're talking about," he countered, pulling away from the doctor. He nodded towards Kanz, who was conversing, if not arguing with the EMH. "She doesn't like sickbays, does she," he changed the subject, unwilling to discuss his love-life with a doctor he barely knew.
As far as he was concerned, his personal choices were none of the doctor's business. They were his own to make, and if it was a mistake, it was his to make. Seeing that the doctor wasn't going to back down on it, he frowned but said nothing and waited, impatiently, to be dismissed already considering he'd been ordered to the office by a superior officer. As the doctor had so aptly put it himself.
"Oh and one more thing." This time, he positively glared at the doctor. "My name is James, not AJ. If you insist on calling me by my first name, something I didn't invite you to by the way, it's James. Kindly remember that."

John smiled, "Doesn't look like it, let's go see what i can do to help Holi." He turned to his door when James said

"I do apologise Counselor, if that's to your liking, i shall remember that in the future"
John left his office and headed to Holi, and thought 'Well that went well, bloody uptight arrogant bugger!' John thought as he went to Holi's aid.
"Commander are you arguing with my EMH?"

As he lay on his bed watching most of the rest of the senior staff of the ship arguing, or at least bickering, he wondered what it was that created so much tension among high ranking officers. He had to admit that it seemed to go a similar way when he conversed with the rest of the senior staff too, but it remained a mystery to him. Far better the marine way. Already, according to Tholon, they had planned a success party, and were simply waiting upon Q2's recovery to crack open the kegs. When the el aurian had argued that the wait was unnecessary, he'd received a raised eyebrow and a comment that with all the injuries he'd sustained, he'd need the alcohol to recover. Q2 had felt it best not to argue with good logic.
He lay his head back onto the pillow and tried to block out the surrounding noise, thinking only of the promise of drink, and of the exciting potential of this new ship. Even if the crew didn't all seem to get along quite so well as they could. Still, he couldn't prevent himself from smiling at the thought. Course, he'd rather the next mission didn't lead to his torture, but heh, what was a hero complex for, if not to get yourself hurt?

L'Ola hadn't intended to leave it that long before going to sickbay. Sure, she'd hoped to stall it a while but things had kind of got out of hand. Which seemed to somehow have led to her going to one of her least favourite places with one of her least favourite types of people. She couldn't think of a worse combination. Except maybe...
Once they got to sickbay it was clear the Doctor and Counselor were going to keep arguing, so Kanz reluctantly checked herself in with the EMH. "I'm Commander Kanz, I believe you need to do some checks"
"You are required to undergo a physical as a new member of the crew. Before we start, any history of medical problems?" Holi asked.
"Not really. Just had a couple of visits to sickbay on my last ship due to accidents."
"What sort of accidents?"
Kanz thought for a second to see if there was any way to phrase it that wouldn't pique the EMH's interest. There wasn't. "Mostly head injuries, nothing major."
Holi seemed to take the safe assumption that this was an under exaggeration, "Was there ever any serious pain, dizziness or loss of consciousness?"
"Mostly just dizziness and a little pain... once I regained consciousness." This was not going well.
"Commander I'm going to need to run some extra checks to make sure there hasn't been any permanent damage and you'll also have to report here immediately on the event of any head injury."
L'Ola went even paler than usual, "Surely that's not really necessary. It was only a few knocks to the head."
"Serious injuries must be treated seriously."
"But they already checked me out after the last accident."
"Commander are you arguing with my EMH?" A different voice interrupted.
She turned to see Storey had finished his conversation with the Counselor and apparently taken an interest in hers. "No, just discussing my medical history."
Storey seemed unconvinced by this, "It is important that we're clear on your medical history and perform all necessary checks. As I said earlier, you could always be relieved of your position."
"That won't be necessary" L'Ola replied through gritted teeth "Just please get this over with as soon as possible." Her only hope was that by complying she could get out of that place sooner. And if she was very careful it could be a while before she hit her head on anything again, but what were the chances of that actually happening...

"In that case Commander i shall complete your physical, Holi, you may go now, your shift has finished" John smiled at Holi as she left sickbay in her usual manner.
"Now, as Holi said in the even of any further incidents regarding your head you are to report to sickbay immediately, any deviation will result in removing from duty for your safety. As well as this i wish to run a very extra neurological tests to ensure you're all ticking properly, otherwise it could go disastrous, also I would like you to lie on the biobed for me"
The commander complied as John scanned her entire body from head to toe, taking particular interest in her neurological systems, "there was no permanent damage to any part of your neurological activity, no traces of any virii or bacteria in any organ, however there does seem to be an anomalous reading here," John said pointing to a medical diagram "any reasons?"
