Not even the sound of the 2009 Super Bowl playing on the large monitor in Andy’s office could distract him from his thoughts. The notion that the Challenger was essentially lost in space was beyond him. Even with all of mankind’s achievements and technology there was nothing his starship could do to travel the vast distance back to their galaxy.
In the corner of the office the aroma of fresh coffee entered Andy’s nose. It was the first time since he entered his office nearly three hours ago that he looked up away form the large PDA that sat in his lap, displaying star charts.
Jamie must have put it on a timer, Andy thought as he rose to his feet. In the corner of his office was a small nook just big enough for a coffee maker and cupboards. It was one of the few perks of being a starship captain. On the counter was a large silver canteen style cup with a screw on black plastic lid, which sat on a small white piece of paper. At first he thought it was a coaster, but when he got close enough to really see it he could tell that it was a hand written note.
Andrew,
I can’t begin to imagine what you’re going through, but I hope this brings a little bright spot to your day. Don’t worry about the crew. They trust you, and they know you will get them home alive. Try not to work too late.
Jamie
The note did help. A small smile cracked on the young captain’s lips as he poured himself a cup of coffee. He knew sooner of later that coffee would become a rationed delicacy, and so this would probably be the last time he could really enjoy it.
Andy breathed in the aroma the coffee was giving off, “Hazelnut,” he smiled as he said the word, “how did she know?” His day was starting to better already.

Even though it had been a tradition for Andrew Kirk and Jack Logan to watch championship games together, their current situation deemed it otherwise. Jack alongside the entire crew were working hard to find a way back home, but as of that moment it seemed impossible. It would take them hundreds of years to get back home from the Andromena galaxy. These thoughts consumed the newly minted first officer of the NX-03 Challenger. With Michael in intensive care, the responsibility had fallen upon him to carry the torch that he had held for such a long time.
"Commander, shouldn't the captain be receiving these reports?" supply officer asked.
"No until I tell you otherwise, actually that goes for everyone!" Jack said looking at the entire bridge crew," no one is to speak to the captain about the ship or how massively screwed we are! If I find that you have spoken to the Captain I will personally ensure that you scrub the plasma manifolds with a toothbrush."
"Jack, calm down! He only asked a valid question," Lucy said shocked that Jack was acting like such a jackass. If it had been anyone else, Jack would have continued to yell and act like a fool, but Lucy had a way of calming him down. She had been aboard Challenger for a very long time and he valued and respected her tremendously.
"I know, the situation is getting to me," Jack said before he turned back to the supply officer," I'm sorry Davis, I didn't mean to snap at you."
"I know, we are all a bit afraid," Davis said before he turned to make his exit," Jack we are still hoping that you will host the Super Bowl party. I know that the timing sucks, but the crew really needs to forget about this for a little bit."
Jack couldn't help but agree with Davis' idea. It was the perfect way to give the crew a bit of a break and it gave Jack the perfect excuse to have a massive party. It dawned on him that this might be the last time they would be able to have a party in a very long time.
"Alright everybody get back to work," Jack said as he turned his attention to the pda that he had been working on but the party had made it impossible for him to focus on work.
"Jimmy, take over for a while, I need to go work in my office for awhile," Jack said as he made his way towards the lift.
"Jack, please don't lie. We all know what you are going to do," Jimmy said as he took the center seat," and please know that you have all of our blessings."
"You can be funny sometimes you know," Jack said with a slight smirk and walked into the lift.

"Dad, wake up!" It was a few hours after Saryn had left to meet with Saphira, and Numike had grown worried, sleeping restlessly at first but demanding to go see her father later. The alien priest had grudgingly allowed her near and Numike had been surprised on how protective the young man had been in regards to her father.
Slowly, Saryn opened his eyes and the first thing he saw were the pale blue eyes of his vampire daughter. "What-" he started, but someone silenced him, pressing him back on the bed. He blinked a few times, trying to regain his usual sense of perspective and balance but the room kept spinning.
Numike smiled happily. "I'm glad you're awake. He said you were overwhelmed...dad what does overwhelmed mean?"
The Vulcan sat up slowly, realising he was receiving assistance in doing so. He had a burning sensation on his cheek and a pounding headache, but quickly learned that the two held no correllation to each other. Memory came flooding back to him, first Boots scratching him, and then Saphira's attack.
His gaze wandered to the young man, standing silently at his side, one arm bracing his back, the other hand carefully resting on his chest, as if to balance him. "Why?" he asked.
The priest shook his head. "I don't know," he answered honestly, "she's gone. I don't know what'll happen to her, but I decided to remain. I too was recalled, but I disobeyed. I'll be killed if I am returned now."
Carefully, Saryn nodded, then sat up further, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed. "When was I taken to sickbay?" he asked.
"Immediately after I found you," the priest answered, equally honest, "and I alerted your captain. He has yet to respond to the summons."
"I see." With the priest's assistance on one side, and Numike on the other, the Vulcan got to his feet. "I am going to see the captain, communications might be down." He glanced up. "You never did tell me your name."
"I have no name," the priest said softly, sounding almost sad. "I was never given one, I have been with the monestary since birth, always serving a higher purpose."
Eyes widening, Numike glanced up at him, a hint of sadness across her face. "Jasper," she said suddenly.
The priest blinked, echoing Saryn's momentary confusion. "What?"
"That's your name," the girl said, smiling knowingly, "Jasper."
"Jasper.." He let his mind roll around the word for a few seconds. "Yes, I like that."
Taking Numike by the hand, Saryn started to walk away, then turned. "Do you wish to accompany us?"
"Gladly," Jasper replied, smiling, "I now have a name to introduce myself with."
The three soon stood before the captain's quarters, though Saryn was surprised it took so long for the captain to acknowledge his summons. He was about to use his medical override when the door finally slid open. "Captain, I regret to inform you that Saphira has been recalled to her vessel. However, one of her associates has chosen to remain behind. He is fearing for his life, if he is sent back. I respectfully request that he be allowed to remain on board."
The Vulcan paused for a few seconds, before meeting Kirk's eyes. "I owe him my life," he explained softly, "twice now. Saphira attacked me before she left. While I am certain she meant no real harm, she did hurt me. Jasper here took me to sickbay and saw that I was taken care of."
This time, Jasper stepped forward. "The little girl named me," he continued Saryn's tale, "I had no name to give to you, but now I have. My name is Jasper, and I wish to remain on your vessel for as long as you may have use of me."

Planning a party was not particulary difficult but this time it was rather difficult. Knowing that the crew would not be able to do this for a while, Jack wanted to make this the best party ever.
"Chef do you know what I want?" Jack asked the ship's cook and partime counselor.
"Yes, I planned ahead," Chef replied," before we left I got the supply officer on the Jupiter station to give me twenty five hundred buffalo wings, ten cases of beer, and something special for the crew. Which I will not tell you, so don't even try."
"I don't know what we would do without you Chef," Jack said intrigued by the special food they were going to eat that Sunday. Having already taken care of the food, Jack decided it was time to tackle the decorations. The 2009 Super Bowl was taking place in Tampa Bay, Florida and the only thing that truly reminded him of Florida was the beach.
~So I got to make us some sand~ Jack thought as he walked through the cooridors. Even though it was easy enough, Jack wasn't sure that they had all the materials to make it feel and look authentic.
"Commander I have already cleared out the second docking bay and the projector is being installed as we speak," Robert asked happy that he was able to anticipate Jack's needs.
"Thanks Robert, but you are taking all the fun out of this," Jack said secretively grateful that he didn't have to worry about that," I'm supposed to be hosting this thing, not the entire crew."
"Just want to help that's all," Robert said before he got back to his official duties onboard the ship.

While Saryn and Jasper had gone to see the captain, a true tragedy occurred elsewhere on the proud starfleet vessel. Two Vackall soldiers dumped the body of High Inquisitor Saphira in the doctor's quarters, then stabbed her several times with the sword that hung on the wall, leaving it in her body. Close examination would find that she was killed by means of the sword, once an investigation was started.
The two soldiers smirked at eachother, the heretic was dead, now they could continue their old ways and old laws, and the alien would get the blame. All evidence pointed to him, not a trace pointed toward foul play. They disappeared when their sharp hearing detected footsteps coming towards the doctor's quarters.
Nurse Phoebe Hemingway, one of the most junior nurses on the medical staff, tapped the door a few times, before finally using her override to check on the doctor. "Doctor, it's Hemingway," she called ahead, "I've the painkillers you wanted for your headache." Boldly, she stepped in further, then screamed, her hands flying to her mouth while the hypospray fell to the deck with a loud thud.
Instead of calling for security, she raced out and towards the captain's quarters, which were close by. On her way, she almost ran Commander Jack Logan over. She apologised and dashed on, tumbling into the captain's quarters after overriding the access code. "Captain!" she cried, panting for breath, white-faced with terror. Her eyes fell on Saryn, widening in fear as she pointed at him. "There's a dead body in his quarters," she stammered, her words damning the doctor before any investigation was performed, "the alien woman, she's dead. His sword's still in her body."
Saryn froze, his expression tight. Beside him, Jasper gasped in horror. "I have not killed anyone," the Vulcan spoke softly, though his expression was marred with confusion. Had he killed someone? He had no recollection of doing so. He was forcibly reminded of the death of captain Voran Adams, and his involvement in it. Could it have been an accident? He couldn't remember wearing his sword after coming back to Challenger, it was hanging on the wall in his quarters. Or wasn't it?
"You killed her!" the nurse screamed at him, "it's your sword, there's blood everywhere." She pressed the wall communicator before the captain could even respond. "Security to Kirk's quarters," she called hysterically before Saryn's hand clamped down on her shoulder and she slumped to the deck.
The Vulcan clasped his hands behind his back, glancing sternly ahead while waiting. "Jasper, please take my daughter and wait for me in sickbay," he ordered, "I do not wish for her to witness this."
Jasper nodded and firmly guided the girl away. He didn't understand what was going on, but he understood it was severe and that his new friend had no intention of contesting the charges.
"Captain," Saryn spoke evenly, "my faith is in your hands. I assure you I have not killed anyone, but clearly the evidence is damning me. Do what you must. However, I request permission to examine the body myself, with supervision of course. I understand if you deny my request..." His voice trailed off, his eyes - filled with doubt - settling on his commanding officer. He had a strong need to see for himself, in order to believe. Though, why would the nurse lie about visible facts? Only he were capable of wielding his sword, only he had ever touched it in combat. But why had he no memory of an act he had so clearly committed?
The Vulcan looked down at the crumpled form of his nurse at his feet, crouching down now to check her vitals. It was then, that security burst in....

Sharon was in her office, since all had been quiet for awhile, she was not needed on the bridge, she had reports to work on but a duty roster to go over, she had just finished with the reports when her communications went off.
"Security to Kirk's quarters," she Saryn's Nurse.
Sharon got up and headed out of her office grabbing her phase pistol when the communication was cutoff. "Jenkins, Jobbs, grab your phase pistols come with me."
They went out of security and headed for the captain's quarters at a run they headed to the lift to deck two and got off headed to the Captain's quarters entering to a scene. The Captain was in shock, the Doctor over the nurse and the nurse looked dead. Sharon pulled out her pistol.
"Doctor Saryn, please step away from the nurse." Sharon said.
Sharon was about to say something else when the wall communications chirped.
"Lieutenant Rourke to Commander Wolf." The Lieutenant said.
Sharon walked over to the wall communications. "Go ahead Dan."
"Commander, we just found the body of the dead priestess in Doctor Saryn's quarters." He said.
Sharon stared at the wall for a minute in shock. "Dan tell me you are joking?"
"No ma'am, theres a dead body and lots of blood and a sword buried deep in the priestess." He said.
"I see, have Matthew and David meet me at the brig, do not let anyone in those quarters unless myself, the Captain or first officer gives their authorization." Sharon said.
Sharon turned away from the comm panel the Doctor was standing facing her her security officer had taken positions just in case the Doctor decided to fight.
"Doctor Saryn, with the authorization placed on me as chief of Security, I must now place you under arrest for 2 murders." Sharon said.
Kirk held up one finger, he was strill in shock but held up one finger.
"One?" Sharon asked.
He nodded.
"I see, my mistake, I'm sorry Doctor but follow me to the brig." Sharon said.
They left the captain's quarters and headed to the brig.

apologies for the novel length
Saryn rose to his feet after having made sure the nurse was merely unconscious. Eyes haunted, he gazed at the young security chief, then nodded. "I understand," he answered flatly, preceding her out the door. "May I request to go by my quarters first? I would like to see the body for myself. I vow that I shall not touch it."
Sharon turned to the Doctor. "I can let you as far as the door doctor, its still what humans call a crime scene, at moment until I have gone over the place, I cannot let anyone near the body or in your quarters."
The Vulcan inclined his head slightly towards the armoury officer. "Understood." He clasped his hands behind his back again and continued walking. At the threshold to his quarters, he froze, eyes narrowing. "I do not understand," he whispered, shaking his head. "That is my sword, there is no doubt. No-one could reproduce that colour of steel." He started to move forward, no longer aware of Wolf at his side. "The thrust was true, it pierced her heart," he continued, realising that his own words damned him even further.
Sharon shook her head. "This is a mess, Doctor please tell me you did not or had anything to do with this."
"I cannot say with absolute certainty that I did not," Saryn confessed, "I alone wield that sword, and there is a gap in my memory. I spent some time unconscious, but I do not know how long." He nodded down to Saphira's body. "We argued, the last time we met, but I am certain she left." He shook his head again, turning away from the body. "The evidence is compelling..."
"Yes it is. I'm going against regs but lets go to my office where we can talk, let me lock your quarters to keep anyone from looking in, then lets talk in private, I will still have to put you in the brig." Sharon stated.
Again, Saryn nodded. He realised that he could fend her off and render her unconscious quite easily, without any effort on his part. But what would that gain him? Where would he go? Sharon still had her phase pistol squarely aimed at him. He had no doubt she could stun him before he got very far. "The brig might be best," he suggested coldly, "why go against regulations and risk being reprimanded yourself?"
Sharon nodded and went to the door, the other two security officer watching Saryn, she locked the door to his quarters." Lets go to the brig, we can talk more there."
Once at the brig with Saryn inside, Sharon took a seat outside after grabbing a pda to take notes on. "Doctor, tell me everything from before the arguement you had."
Please define argument," Saryn retorted, "there were several. The first one started when she assaulted me on her vessel. As you recall, she called me away from my dinner engagement with you. She claimed it was urgent that I meet with her." He paused, turning to face her, not quite comfortable with being confined to a one by two room. "She told me she had to return to her vessel but that she wanted another mind-touch. I refused but she touched me anyway. The next thing I remember is coming to in sickbay."
"I see, I don't know about this mind touch, can you discribe it?" Sharon asked.
This time, Saryn shook his head more forcibly. "I cannot," he said stiffly, only too aware that his ability as a melder was not commonly tolerated or commonly known.
"Why?" Sharon asked. "Saryn if you want me to prove that you are not guilty of murder, help me prove your innocence."
"I cannot explain this mind touch," he insisted, for the first time avoiding Sharon's eyes. "I know I have not killed her, but I cannot explain why. The evidence is complelling, but I know I did not kill her. I am not a murderer commander, unlike what my history may tell you."
"Doctor, let me first tell you something, history is always written by the victors, so in my book it is not neccesarily the truth, I have seen many things in you but a murderer you are not, plus you are a doctor it would go against your oath to kill and I do not believe all vulcans are evil least I know one that is not." Sharon said with a smile.
"I have killed," Saryn confessed, "sadly both friend and foe. I was a tactical officer before I became a doctor. Thus, I am proficient at a wide variety of fighting skills. I am capable of killing, quietly and efficiently."
"I see, something about this whole thing just doesn't add up, you have no motive to kill the priestess do you?"
"Unfortunately, I do." Cold blood murder might go against his grain, but so did outright lying. Saryn had no choice but to answer truthfully, to give any other form of answer would not be tolerable. "As I said, she assaulted me on at least three different accounts. I trust on your ability to uncover the truth, whether it be my guilt or my innocense. I have put my life in the captain's hands."
"Saryn, you know what the penalty for murder is?"
Enlighten me," the Vulcan replied coldly, not wanting to be the one to speak the words. He felt a little lightheaded, nowhere near as confident as he appeared to be.
Sharon looked at him and sighed. "The penalty for murder is death by firing squad."
Saryn's face paled perceptively, but he nodded in understanding. He sank back on the cot, feeling momentarily weakened. He had no way of proving he did not kill the woman, he could only agree with the evidence against him. "I wish to speak with Commander Logan," he finally requested, his hand shaking ever so slightly as he rose back to his feet and reached for the door. "Please," he added, as if in afterthought, suddenly feeling very sick.
"One more question, then I'll contact Commander Logan."
"Continue."
"I dont believe you did it, but is there a possibility that she may have had some enemies and made you a scapegoat?"
"There is that possibility," he conceded, hope flaring in his eyes.
"Ok one more sorry, but is it possible to mind touch a dead body and possibly see the last thing they saw?"
"I do not know," Saryn answered, allowing himself this one lie to protect himself.
"I think you do know and that thought might save your life, think about it Doctor, if it can be done and I can be of any help I'm here for you for sake of Numike especially, she would be very unhappy with me if something happened to you."
Eyes flashing dangerously, Saryn glared at Sharon. "Leave my daughter out of this," he suddenly snapped, "I told you I do not know. I have no experience in that matter. Now, please....contact Jack."
Sharon sighed and stood up. She walked over to the commpanel on the wall. " Commander Wolf to Commander Logan, could you please come down to the brig, Doctor Saryn would like to talk to you asap." Sharon turned to the Doctor. 'Can I get you anything from your quarters?"
Sighing, Saryn forced calm upon himself. "No, thank you commander. My only request is to keep Numike oblivious for now. And I have no doubt you see the logic in that."

"You stupid girl," Jack said as he tried to place the hysterical nurse in a more comfortable position. Jack was not the type of person to accuse without evidence, but as he studied Saryn's body language he knew that even he was confused about the situation. His statement of never having killed anyone had brought back unwanted memories back to the communications officer. These feelings were so strong in Jack Logan that he wanted to lash out at his friend.
"Saryn, stop being so naive!" Jack shouted surprised at his tone," we all know that you are capable of killing someone. Your Vulcan pacifist act is a lot of bull doo-doo! Have you forgotten, that you are responsible for Voran's death.!"
The Vulcan stood motionless, almost as if carved out of stone. It was clear he did remember, painfully so and guilt was clearly visible on his face for a fleeting moment. Then, he nodded once. "I am," he almost whispered, before Kirk interrupted.
"Jack, this is not the place," Andy said trying to keep everything calm. It would not look right if members of the senior staff were at each others throats.
"No Andy, Saryn needs to understand that he is very capable of murder," Jack said once again turning his attnetion to the Vulcan," I have known him long enough to know what he usually is feeling. Vulcan's claim they can control there emotions, but we all know that isn't true. Saryn right now is confused and is wondering if he actually killed that woman."
"Saryn is that true?" Andy asked of the still shocked Vulcan.
"Captain," Saryn spoke evenly, "my faith is in your hands. I assure you I have not killed anyone, but clearly the evidence is damning me. Do what you must. However, I request permission to examine the body myself, with supervision of course. I understand if you deny my request..."
As Wolf led Saryn out of Andy's office, Jack met his friends eyes and saw what they were both thinking. They were not a hundred percent sure that Saryn was innocent.
"Andy, he was confused," Jack said with a hint of hopelessness," Saryn wasn't even sure that he didn't commit the crime."
"Commander Wolf to Commander Logan, could you please come down to the brig, Doctor Saryn would like to talk to you asap."
"On my way," Jack said as he left his friend and captain to his thoughts. He knew that he would need to make some difficult decisions in the up coming days. The priestess was a powerful woman within the Vackall people.
Jack quickly made his way towards the brig and looked upon his friend.
~My friend, I apologize for my actions earlier. I know you to be a man of virtue and honor. I unlike you have an even harder time controlling my emotions~ Jack said to Saryn in perfect Vulcan, much to the suprise of everyone in the brig.

again apologies for the length. 3-way JP between Jack Logan, Sharon Wolf and Saryn
Saryn stared numbly at the communications chief, not even realising he was spoken to in his native language. "Thank you for coming commander," he started, his voice clear though hardly above a whisper, "and I do apologise for causing you to lose your control. You had every right to bring the subject up." He sighed, stepping closer to the door of the cell. "I still experience guilt on the death of Captain Adams, as well as those officers I killed at the airport. I shall never get over that memory, it will be with me for the rest of my life. Has Commander Wolf shown you the evidence?"
“Saryn I know that it haunts you, it haunts all of us til this day, but right now I’m worried about you,” Jack said as he motioned Commander Wolf to allow him access to Saryn,” he won’t hurt me, Commander.”
Sharon n odded to the Commander and walked over and tapped the controls releasing the door. "I know Commander, , this is not easy for me either."
Saryn had stepped over to the far side of the cell, both allowing room for Jack to enter and to indicate he had no intention of fighting his way out. Physically, he was feeling better, the feeling of nausea had passed but mentally he felt he was about to snap. "You have my word that I shall not hurt you commander," he vowed, making a point by placing his hands behind his back, keeping a safe distance. "I assume you have more questions for me to answer?" he asked, glancing from Wolf to Logan.
Sharon closed the door back and sat back down in the chair, looking between the two men. "Doctor, is there anyway you can think of that could help you prove your innocense?"
“Saryn don’t do that, I know you will not hurt me,” Jack said as he asked his friend to release his hands,” what we have to do right now is prove that you did not kill that woman. There wasn’t any reason for you to kill her was there?
"Commander Wolf, how many more times are you going to ask me the one question I cannot answer? I do not know what may or may not help me, all I can do is answer your questions as truthfully as I can." His eyes shifted to Jack as the young man spoke. "I cannot take the risk," he said stiffly, though he relaxed a little, allowing his arms to hang limply at his sides. "I fear that I do have motive," he answered truthfully.
“What motive would that be?” Jack asked surprised.
"She threatened me several times, caused grave injury to Captain Kirk and set my own daughter against me when we were captives on the Vackall vessel." He raised an eyebrow. "She coerced Numike into feeding on me. I could never forgive her for that."
“You are Vulcan, your people do not take revenge on others,” Jack said surprised that Saryn hadn’t killed the woman the moment he could,” we don’t even know how she died yet?”
"I assume you have not seen the corpse. She was stabbed, my sword was piercing her heart. There is no doubt that the weapon is mine, it cannot be duplicated as it is uniquely crafted. There is also the fact that I was the last one to see her alive, though I must have lost consciousness because I remember waking up in sickbay. There are several hours I cannot account for."
“How do you know it was through her heart?” Jack asked,” since when do you know the anatomy of the Vackall?”
"Since she forced herself on me on at least two occasions, showing me many things about the Vackall species," the Vulcan replied coldly, almost glaring at his friend. "A full autopsy needs to be performed, but since I am the only person qualified to do so, it appears we have a problem. I am accused of murder, I cannot in good conscience perform the autopsy." Saryn sagged back on the cot, looking defeated. "I do not know why I cannot remember, it is....frustrating."
“Saryn, you are going to have to get over that fact,” Jack said,” this is your life we are talking about. If you killed this woman we will have to lock you up for many years. You need to think about Numike, if you don’t perform the autopsy you might lose custody of her.”
Startled, Saryn looked up; he had stopped considering Numike, had managed to forget all about her. "Jack, there is something I need to try first. It requires your trust, and your silence." His gaze flicked over to Wolf, then back to Logan. "Commander Wolf's as well. My reputation is at stake, in the event of my innocense."
"I'll do anything to prove you innocent?" Jack said.
Saryn inclined his head ever so slightly. "Thank you for your trust commander," he replied, then rose to his feet, walking up to Logan until he was a scant foot away from him. He raised his left hand. "I would like to perform a mind meld," he explained, "you are the only one I trust with this, and you may see something my conscious mind cannot remember. Will you consent? I must inform you of the danger, as I am inexperienced. I am a melder, and if this becomes publicly known, I will lose my position as a medical doctor. My family will be shamed. Do you understand?"
"I understand, Vulcans will one day come to value the art of mind melding," Jack said honored that he was going to be part of something so personal and intimate," I'm ready when you are."
Carefully, Saryn placed his fingers on Jack's face, then added his right hand. "My mind to your mind," he intoned, closing his eyes. He felt jack's presence in his mind. ~help me~ he thought grimly, pleading while showing Jack what he did remember.
The sensations he felt were overwhelming. In a flash he experienced an entire lifetime and for the first time he truly felt like he knew Saryn. His likes, dislikes, his hobbies coursed through his fragile human mind. Then all of a sudden the attention turned to the present day, but something was wrong. Something that resembled fog envelope them and Jack once again heard Saryn call out for him.
“Saryn concentrate, what happened here? Why can’t you remember?”
"I was unconscious," Saryn replied aloud, though he kept the meld going, "her last assault rendered me unconscious. I do not know for how long." He grimaced, trying very hard to remember, to lift the fog, but failed. "I did not kill her," he finally stated, "I was in no condition to do so."
Jack noticed that he was just an observer in Saryn's mind and he noticed that they were not alone. Someone else had been in the room at the time of the altercation. Someone else had been there and that someone had surely killed the priestess.
"Saryn, someone else was here," Jack said," they must have killed her. We need to end this meld and find out who these people are."
Saryn dissolved the meld and stared at Jack. "Jasper said he found me unconscious in Saphira's quarters," he answered slowly, shaking his head. "Jasper faces execution if he returns home, same as Saphira. He has no motive, but he could have been witness to her attack on me." Emotionally drained, he sank back on the cot. "I need to rest." He raised his eyes up to his friend. "My secret is safe with you?" he asked quietly, laying himself down on the cot, closing his eyes. He had a pounding headache now, but it was worth the revelation that he could not have killed her.
"Saryn, I know you didn't do it," Jack said," and I'm going to do everything in my power to prove you innocent."
Jack knew that it would take both of them some time to recover from the experience, but at least they now knew where to start.
"Logan to James, I need to speak to you."

Sharon watched the mind meld and took a few notes on her Pda, then let Commander Logan out when it was over. "Doctor, sorry to disturb you but, tell me what happened from the time you left Numike and I?"
"I went to Sapphira's quarters," Saryn answered, his eyes remaining closed, his breathing barely under control. He was tense, and trying to sort through memories that weren't his own. "I spoke with her. I told you already she wanted a mind touch, which I refused. After that, she forced it on me, and I must have lost consciousness. Why?"
"While you two were doing what you were doing, i was making a few notes, you were found unconscious correct?"
Saryn nodded.
"I know how to prove your innocense, for one you have no faith in transporters correct?"
"I would indeed prefer to travel by shuttlepod." Saryn slowly sat up, finding it more comfortable talking to her while facing her. In the mean time, he used handsignals to let Logan know that Numike should not be allowed to see him. "But I am certain that a transporter is safe."
"I no longer have a reason to keep you Doctor, but I have to do this by the book, this ship is equipped with sensor monitors all over the ship, all I need to do is call up the sensor log from the time you entered Sapphiras quyarters until you were found unconscious, if you are not shown leaving at anytime then you are innocent." Sharon said.
"I would not ask you to go outside your book commander," Saryn answered stoically, "I would expect you to follow the rules. Until such time, I shall remain here where, undoubtedly, I am safe."
"I agree but theres a task required of all ship Doctors, and I cannot stand in the way of medicine."
"The autopsy," the doctor agreed, "only I am qualified to perform one. I shall, of course, not dispute the presence of guards. I expect them to step in at any time they believe I may not work according to protocol." He held up his hand. "However, you already have my vow that I shall perform it to the best of my ability."
"I know you will Doctor, I need to go check your quarters and do a full go over before the body can be removed as soon as I'm finished I will come for you and escort you to sickbay."
"I shall endeavour to use that period to rest," he promised, "and I shall attempt to meditate. I find this situation...unsettling."
Sharon nodded and stood up stretching, she gave Commander Logan a smile as she walked by she headed out and one of her officers came up.
"Commander, someone damaged our computer, since we are a bit shothanded it went unnoticed until now." Lieutenant Adams said.
"Oh crap." Sharon said as they walked to where the comp was sitting, it had a burned hole in the middle of it.
"Thats just great, well guess my work is cutout for me, but I can use your help, we have the doctors quarters to go over, then escort the Doctor to sickbay for an autopsy, and talk to someone in sickbay, then go down to the mainframe and find sensor logs through terraquads of information." Sharon said.
They left security and headed to the doctors quarters, Sharon tapped the lock and opened the door, inside was still the dead body of the priestess with the sword still stuck in her. They had brought equipment to go over every inch of the quarters area where the body laid, the blood had dried but the carpet showed quite a bit of it.

The morning had been a busy one for the Captain of the NX-03 Challenger. A murder had been committed with all the evidence pointing to Dr. Saryn, the ship’s only medical doctor. The fact that it wasn’t completely out of character for Saryn was the one thing that bothered Andy. Saryn had shown glimpses of feelings before, something that most Vulcan’s strive to hide, so he knew they were there. Somewhere locked deep with in Saryn’s highly controlled mind.
Stars streaked by the large window Andy found himself looking out of. Some would think that as the ships Captain it was his duty to oversee the investigation of these murders, but the fact of the matter was that there were officers already in line and trained for that kind of work. So highly trained that he didn’t even have to issue a single order.
After a brief awkward period Andy was happy to see that Sharon Wolf had finally taken to the Challenger, especially as the ships tactical and security officer. She worked well with the MACOs, something Andy couldn’t say the same for himself.
What bothered him more than anything else was the fact that people on board the ship were trying to keep things form him. If it wasn’t obvious before, it would be after he had a long conversation with his long time friend and Executive officer Jack Logan. The engineering logs had only found their way to Jack and hadn’t been pushed past for Andy’s approval. Jamie Fairbanks was the officer who had slipped Andy the latest status report and the long time engineer turned captain was shocked at how bad the ship had gotten.
It wasn’t that it was Jack’s fault. Michael Wallace, the ships current Chief Engineer was lying in a coma and as a result wasn’t able to fulfill his duties, but beyond that the battle damage the ship had taken had taken the biggest toll on the ship and her crew. Resources were becoming scarce, parts were starting to break down, and with replacement parts slowly becoming non-existent the engineers were forced to come up with creative alternatives. In reality he had nothing but good things to say about the engineers, but he needed to know that he could trust Jack to give him the bad news with the good.
“Commander Logan please meet me in my office.” Andy called out over the ship’s COMs.

"I'll try to find some more concrete answers Saryn" Jack said as he followed Wolf out of the brig," make sure that he stays comfortable."
"Understood, sir," the crewman said rather disappointed. Both of them knew that this would be the longest shift he would ever work. Normally prisoners longed for verbal interaction, but Vulcan's were another matter. He would be lucky to get one word out of Saryn for the next eight hours.
"If you want, I give you permission to read a book while on duty," Jack said with a knowing smile," this is a one time thing."
"Thank you sir," the crewman said with a huge smile on his face.
Glad that he was able to make someone's day a little bit better brought a smile to Jack's face. It would be harder and harder to do that in the coming days. The murder was taking precedence, but there were many things that needed to be done. The ship was no where near it needed to be. Maintenance was increasingly harder to maintain and there was no answer for the problem within sight.
“Commander Logan please meet me in my office.”
"Captain, I'm on my way," Jack said cursing the person that went and told Andy at how bad the ship had gotten. Jack knew this wasn't going to be a pleasant conversation, but he was not one to shy away from a fight. He would tell his friend and leader why he had made these choices and he wouldn't back down.
"What can I do for you Captain?" Jack asked.

"I must apologise for you being stuck with me crewman," Saryn said softly, approaching the door to be able to better see his guard. "I am pleased to hear Commander Logan has allowed you the freedom to attend to your reading." He hadn't intended to startle the crewman by his words, but the Vulcan saw him jump anyway.
"Nor did I intend to startle you, please accept my apology for that as well." Saryn looked around, noticing that only he and the crewman were present. The crewman looked jumpy enough, so Saryn decided not to bother him much longer.
"I assure you I have no intention of breaking out." He nodded over to the cot. "And please do not be alarmed if I do not move for quite some time. I am going to meditate, which will lower my breathing rate."
This time, the crewman nodded, colour returning to his face. "Of course doctor," he replied stoically, "and trust me, I would stun you before you would have even reached the door."
"No doubt," Saryn replied as he settled himself on the cot. "Please, attend to your reading, or study my technique if you so desire." He closed his eyes and soon let his mind wander.
~~
An hour or two later, two MACO's approached the cell and roughly lifted the doctor from the cot. Saryn made no move to defend himself, allowing the two MACO's to guide him to sickbay. One MACO was relatively quiet, clearly disapproving of his partner's manhandling the prisoner. Saryn merely raised an eyebrow in response, signaling to the one guard to not be too upset about it since he wasn't either.
It was clear that the two were assigned guard detail, meant to watch him as he attended to the autopsy. A single nurse helped him into his surgical robe, then held out a pair of rubber gloves to him. Quickly, Saryn pulled them on, then tied the surgical cap around his head, protecting his hair from anything coming from the body, and protecting the tissue of the corpse from any contamination from his own body.
"I hope you're not the queesy sort," the nurse quipped, though she kept well out of their way. "I've prepared the body doctor, taken skin samples already. Your sword I've placed over on the next bed, I'm sure security'll want a look at it."
Saryn nodded and went to work, examining the body closely from every angle. At first sight, it was obvious that the single stab with the sword, right through the woman's heart, was the cause of death. However, closer examination showed that she was already dead before she was stabbed. Dead, or at least already dying. But what was the cause of death, Saryn could not yet discover.
After completing the autopsy, he walked over to the wall communication's panel. "Saryn to bridge. I have finished the autopsy. Processing results may take several hours." He turned back. "Nurse, please conserve the body and place it in the morgue. Gentlemen, I am ready to return to my cell."
The two MACO's nodded, though one unnecessarily prodded him with his pulse rifle, making him miss a step and stumble as a result. "That was unnecessary," the other MACO scowled, before apologising to the Vulcan doctor. "He doesn't like Vulcans very much," he explained, "and he's miffed to be stuck with this duty."
The Vulcan nodded in understanding but said nothing during their walk back to the brig. "Call me when the nurse has the results for me to study," he requested.
"Yes doctor," the MACO acknowledged, before flipping open his communicator. "Captain, the doctor is back in his cell. I'm happy to report he gave us no trouble along the way. Awaiting further instructions now sir."
Meanwhile, Jasper had taken Numike out of sickbay for the duration of the autopsy. Saryn's requests in regards to the girl had been quite clear; he didn't want the sensitive child to know that he was arrested on the charge of murder. The girl had taken him to the mess hall and now they were enjoying something she called pecan pie.
To be honest, the Vackall priest found the delicacy hardly palatable, far too sweet and sticky but he dutifully consumed it so not to hurt the girl's feelings. He listened intently as the child babbled away about her home world, how she had met Saryn and how he'd become her father. She too, explained being extremely happy with her new family, suddenly having two other brothers from entirely different world.
"The captain's very nice too," she babbled on, "he let me stay aboard instead of going back to Earth with my new mother. She's Vulcan, just like Saryn...anyway the captain...he's very young but very good at his job. Did you know he hated my father when they first met?"
Jasper merely nodded, finding the tales fascinating. He let the girl do all the talking, as it obviously kept her mind off going home.

"What can I do for you Captain?" Jack asked.
Andy could tell from his tone that he was on the defensive, even if ever so slightly. He quietly found it amazing how well Jack had gotten to know him these past few years, and more importantly when something was bothering him. It was more than likely the reason for the formalities in referring to him as Captain.
“Jack,” Andy said standing up with the PDA in his hand. He shook the PDA a couple of times as if he was fanning a fire; “I trust your instincts, but to keep this from me? I don’t understand. This is information that I need to know, especially since engineering was my original occupation aboard this ship. I can’t best decide how to use the resources of this ship if I don’t know the condition of the ship.”
“Aye sir.” Jack said.
The formality struck Andy again, but he knew this was one of those times he couldn’t or shouldn’t ask Jack to be more formal. Even though they were close friends, closer than anybody he’d every known there were times were formalities were needed. However, the young Captain certainly wasn’t going to let this be a one sided conversation.
Andy paced, and tossed the PDA back on his desk. The stars caught his attention streaking past the window. He watched for just a brief second before turning back to face Jack.
“How is the situation with Saryn progressing?” He knew it sounded cold but with everything else happening on the ship he hadn’t had a chance to keep up with Commander Wolf’s investigation.

*RJ managed to struggle into his uniform and was headed to the Med Bay for his appointment when the comm called:*
"Logan to James, I need to speak to you."
*RJ activated the comm on his desk;* James here what can I do for you?"
<tag Logan>
*After listing to the Commanders brief on the Doctor's situation:*
"Aye Sir I have something that might just help, I will meet you in the brig after I talk to Commander Wolf."
*RJ stopped by his safe and retrieved a black rectangle device he had kept with him since his days on Vulcan; slinging it over his shoulder he headed for the Armory Officers Office.*

Andromeda Galaxy
A few hours passed when the earlier friendly MACO stepped back in the brig, signaling the guard to open the cell door. "Your nurse had a report for you," he said, holding out a PDA towards the Vulcan.
Calmly, Saryn rose to his feet and stepped forward, holding one hand out to accept the PDA. "Thank you corporal," he answered, "did she say anything?"
"No doctor, just that you might find this interesting. She processed everything as quickly as was possible, without your assistance." The corporal frowned. "I don't believe you did it sir," he then said honestly, "you're no killer."
Saryn arched an eyebrow in response. "Thank you corporal, for your confidence. I too, now, believe that I have not killed her."
"Were you in doubt then?" the corporal asked, clearly surprised at the honesty from the prisoner.
"I was corporal, for I lacked certain memories. It is now clear I spent some time unconscious, during the time she was killed." He looked up from the PDA. "She was killed after she rendered me unconscious, not before. Additionally, she was not killed in my quarters, she was killed before being transported here."
The corporal tapped the PDA, smiling slightly. "Have fun reading doctor, I'll be back later if you need to get back to sickbay. In the mean time, stay out of trouble hm? Once your nurse and security are done with your sword, I'll keep it safe for you."
Again, Saryn thanked the corporal and returned to sit on the cot, already immersed in reading well before the corporal turned and left.
Milky Way Galaxy
"Mother, when are we going to visit the Challenger again?"
T'Vin glanced down at her sixteen year old son, wondering why he wanted to visit his father's ship again. Sighing, she asked him.
"I want to see more of engineering," the boy answered, "and Savin wants to see sickbay, did you not Savin?" He looked up at his older brother, who had joined them on the starbase. He too, had heard Challenger had gone missing and had come to support his mother post haste. Sodon, however, was unaware of Challenger's current status.
The older male Vulcan nodded quietly. "Yes, I would like to see sickbay. I am in my final year at medical school and need to prepare for an internship at a medical facility. I had hoped to spend some time with father in his sickbay."
"And I want to spend more time with Numike," the younger male continued, peering up at his mother.
T'Vin nodded. "We all do," she confided to her son. The woman still wondered what had possessed her mate to adopt an alien child, a vampiric child no less. Yet, the child was considerate, polite and quite willing to adopt their ways. Furthermore, her youngest son seemed to have made himself the child's protector.
She sighed again and gazed out the large window on the observation deck. It had been weeks since Challenger had disappeared from the charts, and had dropped from all communications networks. It was against her nature to show worry, but she couldn't help but admit to herself that she was. "I am certain we shall be able to visit your father very soon," she said after a long silence.
Savin nodded. "I know mother," he answered quietly, clasping his hands behind his back for lack of a better posture. T'Vin noted silently how much her eldest resembled his father, in more ways than one. "I am certain father is well," he added, more for his mother's benefit, than his own.

Sharon was sitting in her office, a makeshift one at best but it was workable, she sent one of her officers up to sickbay to get the autopsy report and Saryn's sword. Sharoin grabbed a PDA and set it up to do a metallurgic scan and awaited the officer to return.
It did not take long when Lieutenant Criss stopped in with both the sword and the PDA with the autopsy report. Sharon thanked the Lieutenant, set the sword on her desk, and set the PDA to work, she sat down and read the autopsy.
Sharon had just finished reading the autopsy, when the PDA chgirped that it was finished and there was a knock at her door, it was the maco co Colonel James.
"Colonel, this is unexpected, what can I do for you?" Sharon asked.
While he talked Sharon gave the PDA a look over and it found an unknown substance on the sword. She showed her finding to the Colonel. ":I must show this to Saryn, tag along if you wish."

This situation with Saryn is getting bothersome, Kirk thought as he wondered the bare corridors of the Challenger. He knew he had the power to release Saryn from the brig and expunge him of all possible wrong doings, but what kind of example would that set for the rest of the crew? No, he knew deep down that he had to let Sharon do her job, just as he had to do his.
Andy’s job had taken a sudden turn for the worst as the weeks had gone by. The Challenger, the newest NX class starship was in bad disrepair, her compliment of torpedoes were running low, and spare parts were nowhere to be seen. They were doomed to fly apart if this course of action continued.
Trade negotiations hadn’t yielded anything of interest or need. The space traveling races of the Andromeda Galaxy were far less sophisticated and appeared to trust nobody who was different. It reminded him of ancient Earth history and the racism that was prevalent through out the world. He stopped himself suddenly and whined when he thought about the hatred he had for Saryn before he really had a chance to get to know the Vulcan.
Andy continued walking and he let his mind wonder, but not to far off the beaten path. He thought about how much he trusted the crew, especially Jack, but the actions Jack had taken shook that trust. He knew he could still depend on the man, but now he had that subconscious voice in the back of his head wondering if he should second guess the man.
“Time heals all wounds.” A female voice called out.
Andy turned his head quickly as the voice had startled him, but when his eyes went to meet the voice there was nothing there. The Challenger’s Captain looked around but saw nobody, not a single soul walking the ship at this hour.
“That was weird.” Andy mumbled to himself as he pressed on, his nerves still a little frazzled.
The brig wasn’t as big as he remembered it being. Not that he spent a large amount of time in the part of the ship, it was just that his memory of the space allowed for it be larger. Sharon Wolf was sitting at her desk doing paper work when he entered, knocking gently on the door as to not startle her.
“How is the investigation coming along Commander?”

Saryn saw the captain enter and beeline for Sharon's office. The female armoury officer had entered earlier, with Robert James in tow, but none had come to see him. With all their presence though, the friendly guard had been dismissed to his free time, and the young man had quickly disappeared, looking far too relieved.
As promised, the Vulcan had been awfully quiet, attempting to meditate but failing at every attempt. He was concerned, not only for his own wellbeing, but that of his adopted daughter as well. He trusted his Vackall friend to take care of the little girl, but obviously preferred to be in her presence himself.
He rose from the cot when he heard another set ot footsteps enter the brig, arching both eyebrows in surprise as he recognised the nurse who had so readily accused him of murder. Unfortunately for him, the friendly guard had been replaced with the fairly racist MACO, who had treated him so harshly when he'd been called upon for the autopsy.
The MACO restrained the nurse before she could reach the door of the cell. "Where do you think you're going nurse," he snapped at her.
Phoebe Hemingway struggled, managing to get herself free and get to the door. "I'm so sorry doctor," she whispered, "I wish I could set this right for you."
Saryn nodded in understanding. "There is no need, you did what you thought was right. I am not capable of taking offense when the act is logical. You were disdraught. It is I, who owe you an apology, for rendering you unconscious. That alone was a suspect act."
The nurse shook her head, reaching for the controls that would release the door. The MACO was just too late in catching her hand and the door slid open. "Release me," she snapped, the MACO releasing her hand almost instantly. She took another step forward. "He won't hurt me," she insisted as she stepped into the doorway. "Would you?"
The Vulcan shook his head carefully. 'No ma'am," he answered, "I would not." He reached towards her outstretched hand, fully intending to take it between both his own, to comfort her. Rather, to attempt to comfort her, as that whole idea was fairly alien to him.
"No!" Phoebe's cry of alarm alerted him to the fact that something was about to happen. He was aware of a strong hand clamping around his arm, flinging him backwards. He found himself flying before he could respond, tripping over his own feet as he tried to catch his balance. His legs caught on the edge of the cot as he smacked backwards. A loud crack resounded in his ears and he realised he'd struck his head on the wall. He slid down onto the cot, but his momentum carried him further and he slid down to the deck.
His vision went black for a few seconds, his eyes watering as pain echoed through his mind, leaving his ears ringing and sending a nauseating pain down his abdomen. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was the nurse kneeling beside him. "Leave," he managed to whisper at her, then passed out.
Hemingway shook her head. "No, not this time." She turned around. "Sharon!" she cried out, "Sharon help me!" She managed to take hold of the MACO's pulse rifle and aimed it at him. "Don't you move," she ordered, keeping half her attention on her own boss. "You hurt him, unnecessarily. And don't give me any crap about it, I know you hated him. He wasn't going to hurt me, I know he wasn't. I wasn't in any danger from him."
Tears streaked down her face, then lowered the weapon as both captain, armoury officer and senior marine officer approached. "He's hurt," she blurted out, "I don't know how bad. He's not bleeding, but he blacked out almost immediately. He struck the wall hard, I could hear the crack." She sighed. "This is all my fault...." she whispered miserably, returning her attention to the unconscious Vulcan.

Jack's investigation had not yielded any results as of yet and his mind was loosing most of the sensations it had gained from the mind meld. Wanting to see if Saryn was up for another one, Jack made his way towards the brig, but as soon as he arrived he saw that Saryn was being carried away on a strecher.
"What the hell happened?" Jack asked but knew that it had to do with the Sgt. Hollins, a known Vulcan hater," I should kick your [word deleted] Seargent."
"Commander Logan, control yourself!" Andy's voiced bellowed from the small space that was the brig.
"Yes, sir," Jack said surprised that Andy would become so official towards him," he's going to be okay?"
"Yes, he is but I want to get his head checked out," Pheobe said as she led the group back towards sickbay.
"We need to figure this out, Captain," Jack said once they had been left alone," I know Saryn didn't do it. I know someone else commited the murder, but I cannot physically prove it right now. "We are also running out of supplies. If we don't find the materials that we need soon we will lose the ship sir."

Sharion offered the Colonel a seat, he brought a box with him and sat it on her desk, she was about to say something when the Captain walked into view she gave him a smile.
“How is the investigation coming along Commander?” He asked.
"It's slow but I'm doing everything in my power to help Saryn's case, I have found onbe odd thing though, I had science run a metallurgic scan on his sword and found..." Sharon was cutoff by the call of the Nurse.
Sharon got up in a hurry and headed to the brig area, the nurse was holding the marines weapon on him, she saw Saryn laying on the floor against the wall obviously unconscious
"Care to explain yourself mister?" Sharon asked.
When he refused to talk, Sharon shoved the marine into the wall, the Captain and several security officers had entered, Sharons anger showing. "Let me guess, you hate vulcans?" Sharon asked.
Sharon had surprised the man, he could only nod, first time she ever saw a marine show fear. Sharon felt like tearing the mans head off but shoved him to her two officers. "Throw him in the brig, make sure you take Sgt. Hollin's toys from him, strip him down to his underwear."
Sharon watched as a stretcher was brought in after the marine was removed, she watched as Saryn was placed on the stretcher. "Wait a minute, let me check something."
Sharon leaned down and checked to see if Saryn was truly out or faking it by his breathing, then she slapped him., when he did not react she nodded for them to go.

Of course, the Vulcan did feel the slap, but he was too out of it to respond to it. He was only very dimly aware of being moved, before losing consciousness a second time.
Phoebe Hemingway saw to the scans herself, her guilt guiding her. With the help of a few fellow officers, she transported the doctor onto the bed that would slide into the scanner. A worried frown creased her brow as she checked the read-out, then a sigh of relief escaped her lips. He wasn't seriously wounded and his skull hadn't so much as a hairline fracture in it.
Still, he'd suffer dizziness and headaches for a few more hours, as he did have a severe concussion. She hovered close to the bed, waiting for him to open his eyes. On security orders, she would have to restrain him, since he was still a murder suspect, but under the circumstances she felt it could wait.
Saryn felt strong hands press him down on the bed when he tried to sit up. Jasper's voice filtered through the fog in his mind, urging him strongly to remain lying down. The Vulcan felt his stomach heave when he tried to sit up anyway, and felt hands support him as he lurched sideways and vomited into a tray that was placed before him just in time. "I told you so," Jasper chuckled, as he helped the Vulcan lay back down.
Phoebe sighed in relief. "I'm sorry doctor but now you're awake I'm going to have to restrain you."
Blinking, Saryn took a few seconds to focus on the nurse. "Understood," he answered softly, lying perfectly still as she applied the restraints across his chest, wrists and legs. "What happened?"
Now Hemingway blinked. "You don't remember?" At Saryn's slight shake of the head, she took a deep breath. "I was apologising to you for causing you so much trouble. You were about to step forward to reassure me, when Sergeant Hollins simply flung you back into the cell. You tripped and struck your head on the wall. You lost consciousness immediately and have been unconscious for a few hours now. You'll be pleased to know that Sharon threw the MACO in the brig on an assault charge. You weren't a flight risk, never have been."
She sighed again, looking up at Jasper. The Vackall priest nodded silently. "You've been a model prisoner," he explained, "accepting your fate without question, not trying to escape as is a prisoner's first duty. You performed the autopsy on Saphira formidably, you didn't forge any evidence, and accepted only facts."
The Vackall turned around. "Miss Wolf, the doctor has regained consciousness. I believe you had something to ask of him?" He nodded towards the datapad in her hand.

Sharon nodded to the man. "Saryn, I had your sword sent to science, they ran a metallurgic scan on it, what they found is quite peculiar." Sharon said handing Saryn her PDA.
Jasper took it in the Vulcan's stead, since the other man was still restrained. "Explain?" Saryn murmured, still feeling dazed and nauseous. Even though restrained, he lacked any desire to get up. Jasper showed him the data, though his gaze remained on the young woman before them.
"The scan showed and unknown substance, besides the blood of the priestess."
“I am a doctor and a tactician commander,” the Vulcan replied tiredly, “not a science expert. Please explain this data to me. It is not odd for there to be other substances besides her blood, I have killed others with it back on Miranda, and no doubt my own blood is on it.”
"True, but this unknown substance, is not from our galaxy, and its fresh, if I were to make a guess I think it's poison."
This time, Saryn did attempt to raise himself up, groaning as he encountered resistance from the restraining band across his chest. “Poison?”
Jasper looked on stoically. “Poison,” he confirmed softly, “and highly lethal. Saphira was poisoned before your sword pierced her heart.” He turned back to wholly face Sharon. “There is something else you must know, and I regret not having informed you sooner. It could have spared him a great deal of agony and you a great deal of worry. I witnessed Saphira's attack on your doctor, and I was there when she left. He was in no condition to murder anyone, I assure you.”
"I believe you, although I don't know your name, but this all adds up, someone wanted her dead, and wanted the Doctor to take the blame for it, the question is, who and why."
“My name is Jasper,” the priest answered slowly, his voice still soft. “And I believe they wanted Saryn dead because he is the one who shook everyone's belief. They knew that the penalty for murder is death, as I knew when I came aboard. Why she was killed, I can only speculate, because I do not know. Perhaps because of her affiliation with you.” Helplessly, he held up his hands. “Like I will be killed, if I am sent back. No doubt, they will then try to pin my murder on him as well.”
The Vackall priest offered a wry smile. “After all, he does kill with precision and little effort. A born warrior, despite his profession to heal and do no harm.”
Sharon gave him a small smile. "I know, Saryn is a good person, true as you see with him here there are those among the crew that do not like vulcans, me personally, I like them, Saryn has been nothing short of nice to me, and his daughter is sweet. As far as you going back to your homeworld, you will have to discuss whatever your decision is with the Captain, I cannot make that decision."
Jasper nodded. “I'll go talk to the captain. What'll happen now, with Saryn I mean?”
"I will make my report to the Captain. I see no reason not to let Saryn go."
"Then please release him?"
"I cannot until the Captain authorizes it, or as far as I'm concerned hes free."
Jasper started to nod, but a single look from Saryn froze him. "You didn't answer my question Miss Wolf," he asked instead, "what will happen to Saryn now? Can we at least remove the restraints? I think they're hurting him."
"Jasper, thats the nurses decision, she can release him, like hes gonna go anywhere anyway." Sharon stated with a wink to Saryn.
"No he's not," Phoebe interjected, immediately releasing the restraints, "he's not tried to escape once commander, even though he had every opportunity at several instances. Besides, he's too sick to get up to begin with." To make a point, she placed her hand flat on Saryn's chest, holding him down. "Don't get up," she warned, "or you'll get sick again. The headaches will pass as you rest longer, trust me." She grimaced. "And while he is a model prisoner, he certainly is the worst patient. Was that all commander? He needs to rest. Perhaps you and Jasper can take this...elsewhere?"
Sharon thought about it for a moment. 'Saryn, would you like me to care for Numike until you are well?"
"Please," the Vulcan responded, closing his eyes in relief now that the pressure on his body was gone, "and please keep her unaware of my condition. There is no need to alarm her, is there?"
"No, she can come stay with me, if she asks, what would you like me to tell her?"
Tired eyes met those of the Human armoury officer. "Tell her the truth if she asks," he decided, "if she does not ask, merely tell her I am unwell and need rest. Thank you commander, I am in your debt."
Sharon smiled. "Nurse, hes yours. Get some rest Saryn. Jasper lets go out into the corridor and let the doctor rest."
Jasper nodded, sympathetically squeezing the Vulcan's shoulder once, ignoring the protest of being touched. "As you wish commander." He followed the woman out. "He has killed, but he's no murderer," the priest offered knowingly, "he cares far too much to kill in cold blood, like Saphira has been murdered. You think we will find who did kill her? You may subject me to any test you like, if you suspect me, but I promise you that I had nothing to do with her death either."
"I don't have to Jasper, I spoke to Saryn, plus I have looked at scans of the corridor, the only reading of you was piucked up when you found the doctor unconscious and brought him here, I assume you have remained here the entire time, scans of inside her quarters only show her after he was removed, so apparenbtly she had returned to the ship and not finding the doctor, was killed by someone waiting on her."
Jasper nodded. "I stayed with him, it was the only honourable thing I could do, after what he was subjected to on my ship. I could've stopped it, but didn't. I've repaid my debt, and gained much more. I've gained new friends, and I want to learn more."
Sharon nodded ot Jasper. "I need to go see the Captain and give him my report, I'm hungry, once I'm finished with the Captain, I will be in the galley, if you would like to join me please do." Sharoin said and walked away.

Jack walked with Andy through the corridors of the Challenger. It was clear that his first command was starting to fall into disrepair, pipes and wires were starting to hang loose from the ceilings, and running lights either flickered on and off or were off completely. Andy privately dreaded the next time his ship was to get an inspection.
“We’re running low on supplies.” Jack cut the silence between the two friends.
“I know.” Andy replied. He tried to make his reply sound confident but his voice lacked the tone to imply any sort of authority.
“We’re going to lose this ship sir.” Jack pushed.
“I’m aware of that Jack.”
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Jack turn his head and give him an odd look. It wasn’t the first time Andy had seen this look. As a matter of fact he had seen it before, but well before he was the Captain of the Challenger. It was the look of sheer doubt in the ships’ commander.
"We need to figure this out, Captain," Jack said once they had been left alone," I know Saryn didn't do it. I know someone else committed the murder, but I cannot physically prove it right now.”
“I agree completely.” Andy said as they walked. The last thing they needed was the ship’s doctor to be imprisoned, “Set upon a guard to be in sickbay for each shift, but make sure it’s a security officer and not a MACO.” Andy ordered. I can’t stand those MACO, Andy thought.

Sharon started out of sickbay but before she left completely she tapped communications.
"Commander Wolf to Captain Kirk and commander Logan. Could I meet with you asap?" Sharon asked.
<Kirk,Logan>
Sharon left and headed to where she was to meet the captain and first officer, she stood straight with pda in hand and nodded to both o them.
"I have evidence that shows that Saryn did noit kill the priestess, I have testimony and the autopsy, plus a metallurgic scan to go with those two." Sharon said.

"Jasper, one of the priests gave testimony that he found saryn unconscious in the priestess cabin, according to that time and the time of death, Saryn was not even in the cabin, the autopsy shows she died from his sword, but I had a metallurgic scan run on the sword and science found a unknown compound on it, my guess its some type of poison, the only question that remains is why was he framed." Sharon said.
