[Starbase 24: Immediately following Savot's being cleared of fault and the decommissioning of the El Salvador B]
Admiral Lisa Hayes looked down at the padd that Savot's friend Lt. Commander Delbridge had handed her, and arched an eyebrow in a not entirely un-vulcanlike manner, "The newest variant starship of the Excalibur class... slated for active duty in 3 months, and?" She said inquisitively, not sure what Delbridge was getting at.
"Well Admiral, what we've got there is a ship with no assigned crew as yet; and what you have here is a crew with no ship. I recommend that the new ship be designated the El Salvador's replacement... the El Salvador-C", Delbridge stated plainly, his right foot tapping not with impatience but with anxiety, "I already have the template parameters for a ship's plaque ready for uploading to a replicator. I got Admiralty agreement from 3 Flag officers in the Sol System and I only need a final Field Officer's green light to make the proposal pass. I was hoping to get yours, ma'am."
Lisa looked at the man as if he'd grown a second head that belonged on a Gorn, "One month's time to get that many approvals would be a feat even for another Admiral... are you some cousin of the Federation President's that no one knows about?"
Delbridge smiled sheepishly as though embarrassed by the semi-compliment, "I'm a... very good engineer ma'am; and I've gotten a lot of work done quickly for a lot of high rollers over the years; though you're right this did cost me every marker I could call in. But it's important."
Lisa sighed softly, "Because Commodore Savot is your friend."
Delbridge shook his head, "If it was just that, I wouldn't waste my time because Savot wouldn't go for it. Sentiment isn't logical, and he wouldn't use it to improve his own position. But you're a superior officer who has no personal relationship with him; if you approve the ship's commissioning as the new El Salvador and assign Savot to it... he'll make his peace with losing the El Salvador-B... eventually, and fulfill his duties to the best of his annoyingly high abilities."
Hayes paged through the status reports on the new ship, "Mr. Delbridge, the Warp Core hasn't even begun to be built yet; that alone will take weeks if not months to properly test and calibrate before installation. It doesn't make sense to sideline an entire crew so they can transfer to a ship that's best suited to completely different assignments than they're accustomed to, when we could give those experienced officers new assignments right away."
Delbridge snapped his fingers and Admiral Hayes almost took offense... if she'd had time before he spoke quickly and yet more firmly than she'd ever heard him speak before, "On the contrary Admiral; I can't think of a better use for the El Salvador's crew than joining the teams finishing the construction of the new ship. When the El Salvador-C pulls out of spacedock her crew will know her inside and out better than almost any other starship crew out there. And, if you'll recall just minutes ago you authorized me to help Savot retrieve any salvageable components from the El Salvador-B. Well, one rather significant component comes to mind... her Warp Core."
"Think about it ma'am. Most ships are beyond lucky to survive the destruction of their Warp Core, but this Warp Core just survived the destruction of its starship! If that's not a better omen than hanging a rabbit's foot in the engine room I don't know what is", Delbridge then took a deep breath before finishing more slowly, "As I said ma'am, if I just planned this out of friendship it wouldn't work, Savot would refuse. But when I plotted out all the details they made perfect sense up, down, and sidewise. That it also helped my best friend... was just really tasty icing on the proverbial cake. And regardless of your decision on this, I very much appreciate your taking the time to hear me out. Thank you Admiral."
Lisa caught herself before letting her jaw hit the floor at that last part. Instead she cleared her throat and stood, taking the padd with her, "Well Mr. Delbridge you certainly put a lot of thought into the details of this proposal, and while I'm sure you probably wouldn't have gone to this much trouble for someone who wasn't a friend of yours... that clearly wasn't the meat of your decision making process and I respect that. I'll consider it and let you know within 48 hours. Dismissed."
Delbridge nodded gratefully and backed his way towards the door, "Aye aye, Admiral."
Delbridge let the courtroom doors close behind him, and was halfway down the hall when his communicator chirped, =^=Hayes to Delbridge... I'm holding you responsible for the safe recovery and transport of the El Salvador-C's Warp Core. Inform Commodore Savot, Hayes out.=^=
He turned back towards the courtroom in shock half intending to tackle the Admiral and plant a kiss on her cheek, regulations be damned, which was likely the reason she'd yet to come out of the court. Instead he bent partially at the waist and with both arms made what was sometimes referred to as the cha-ching motion, "YES!"
Regaining his composure for the moment but unable to shake the smile from his features just yet, Delbridge apologized to the Vulcan ambassador who had turned the corner just as he'd yelled out, and just managed not to break into a run on his way to catch up to Savot.

[Starbase 24: 0900 hours the following morning]
One of the launch bays had been cleared for the funeral services of those 57 souls lost with the El Salvador-B. Admiral Lisa Hayes and the Tellarite admiral who had also heard Commodore Savot's debriefing both attended in their color dress uniforms. In his own dress uniform, Savot listened to Admiral Hayes' finishing words, "...and it is with both gratitude for their dedication, and regret at their passing that we commend their bodies to the universe they gave their lives to study and protect."
Hayes stood down from the podium and assumed a posture of attention as Savot stood to make the final statement, "It has often been said that material things can be replaced when lost while lives cannot. While I certainly agree with the essence of that statement; I also believe that even in death lives are not lost to us completely. Memories live on in friends and family to be sure... but I also believe that when companions or colleagues are lost to us, that we not only retain our memories of them, but we also have part of their spirits added to us."
"Loss often inspires us to strive for higher standards than we otherwise would, bettering ourselves so as to ever so slightly balance the absence of those who have died. We push ourselves to the limits of our abilities and beyond attempting to ensure that the accomplishments of the dead are not forgotten, and their sacrifices not made in vain. Starfleet endures not only because we refuse to abandon our spirit of exploration in the face of death... but because the spirit, integrity, and accomplishment of our fallen comrades demands no less. As we continue to explore and learn on our journeys through the stars, let the departed continue to do so on this new journey as well", Savot did an about face from the podium, took 3 paces to align himself with the other officers at attention, then spun on his heel again to face the coffin tubes of the men and women who had died under his command.
As everyone present raised their hands in salute, the antigrav circuits on the coffins were activated and began slowly ferrying their occupants to yet another frontier, passing through the hangar bay's force field to multiple phaser-rifle volleys fired by the El Salvador's own security personnel.
As everyone began to depart afterwards, Admiral Hayes voiced her condolences to Savot and left, leaving only the vulcan and Delbridge in the launch bay staring out into space. While the burial tubes were no longer visible to the naked eye... Delbridge knew it would be a long time indeed before Savot stopped seeing them.

Commodore Jon Park heard of the destruction of the El-Salvadore when his ship the Neveda arrived at starbase 24, Jon hurried to the service just to see Admiral Hayes walking out in there dress uniforms. "Admiral Hayes." Park said stopping to wait for orders or what not. The Admiral just walked past with a nod. "Commodore Park."
Jon entered the bay and saw the former commander of the El-Salvadore just staring into space. "Such a sad things to do when your given the responsibly of command." Jon said to Savot. "I have had to do this on 2 occasions myself and it never get easier."

"So any idea what your going to do next?" Jon had some leave coming and was thinking of staying at starfleet Headquarters bugging the new ensigns and seeing what the cadets would do.

Jon Park entered the bay and saw the former commander of the El-Salvador just staring into space. "Such a sad thing to do when you're given the responsibly of command", Jon said to Savot, "I have had to do this on 2 occasions myself and it never gets easier."
Savot kept looking straight ahead as he replied, "A fact for which we should be grateful. If loss did become easier to face we would stop putting forth our highest effort to avoid it. I only regret that sometimes our highest effort is not enough."
The vulcan turned then to face the speaker, recognizing him from his Starfleet personnel file but never having met him in person, "Commodore Park, though I would prefer it were under better circumstances I am pleased to make your acquaintance."
"So any idea what your going to do next?" Jon had some leave coming and was thinking of staying at Starfleet Headquarters bugging the new ensigns and seeing what the cadets would do.
Savot took one last look out into the stars before pressing the bay controls that began to close the physical launch bay doors; he then made his way towards the exit, "Admiral Hayes has offered the El Salvador's surviving crew members positions on the construction detail working to complete a new modified Excalibur class vessel at the Mars Shipyards in the Sol System. I've not yet spoken with everyone but for my part I intend to accept the offer; it will be rewarding to work on such a project. I have not yet decided what I'll do after the ship's completion."
When Jon heard that he smiled, "Would you like, no wait; I insist the Nevada take you to Mars. I have always wanted to see the shipyards and now I can." He also needed to get something installed on the Nevada and was going to stop there anyway.
Savot was immediately reminded of one of the aspects of Starfleet he admired the most, the camaraderie that arose even between officers who had never met when one recognized that the other faced some form of distress. The vulcan former-captain bowed his head gratefully, "A gracious invitation Commodore, you have my thanks. I intend no offense but I must decline as Admiral Hayes has already diverted a transport vessel to convey my party and the El Salvador's salvaged Warp Core to Mars, and as such it would be inconsiderate of me not to utilize the transport after causing it to be inconvenienced. However, I'm sure the S.S. River Kwai's captain would be agreeable to traveling in the company of a starship of the Nevada's caliber should you wish to follow our course. If I recall correctly the Nevada was the vessel our former Marine commander Colonel Runningwolf briefly took command of, and he spoke well of ship and crew in the one message he sent to me after his transfer."
(Tag Park)
Though he'd been genuinely honored by the invitation, Savot also had a desire for solitude at the moment in addition to the desire not to offend the transport captain, and hoped Commodore Park wouldn't be offended either by Savot's decline of the offer. As it was, the River Kwai was due to arrive in just over an hour, so Savot bowed a farewell to Commodore Park raising his right hand in the traditional vulcan salute before leaving the hangar bay, "Live long and prosper, Commodore."

[3 days later: Sector 001]
The S.S. River Kwai dropped out of Warp near Pluto, beginning the sojourn into Earth's solar system on its way to the Mars shipyards to drop off two officers and one rather large piece of equipment. Lieutenant Commander Delbridge found his vulcan friend at one of the observation windows, and smiled to himself at Savot's humanlike anticipation of seeing the new ship. Savot still hadn't said if he would accept command when the new ship was complete, but Delbridge was confident that time would heal wounds as it always tried to do, and that working on the El Salvador B's successor would allow Savot to fully come to terms with the loss of his former home.
A half hour later the shipyards were finally in visual range... and Savot could begin to make out the vessel housed within one of the construction berths. He had reviewed the technical specs and diagrams on the way here of course, but as was always the case in matters like this, no amount of study compared to seeing the real thing right in front of you.
The ship's designation had been agreed on so recently that it was no surprise that no name was painted on the hull yet; in fact a great many panels of hull plating were still incomplete giving spectators a view into the complex, awe-inspiring components that made up the incredible vessels the Federation used to convey its ideals of cooperation and exploration into the far reaches of the cosmos.
As the River Kwai moved to dock, Savot was treated to a near 360 degree view of his new assignment and he could not deny being moved by the sight. This variant of the Excalibur-class vessels looked very much like the refit of the legendary Constitution-class ships. The most noticeable differences were the Warp nacelles, which were of a sleeker design akin to those on Sovereign-class ships; the hull was of slightly darker gray that the Conny refit.
"A lot like your hero Ambassador Spock served on in his Starfleet days huh?", Delbridge commented, knowing the notion would give his vulcan friend pleasure even if it wasn't plainly apparent on his face.
Savot nodded slowly, and while he spoke the role of devil's advocate the softness in his voice admitted his consideration of Delbridge's words, "Many dedicated officers served on such vessels."
"And many good officers will serve on this one too", Delbridge stated with certainty, "and with the El Salvador-B's Warp Core powering her, she's practically the offspring of your former command."
Savot was too centered in the moment to point out the over-dramatization of his human friends words, but the vulcan nodded slowly. Whether or not he chose to remain in Starfleet afterwards... Savot knew that he would find the coming weeks very fulfilling.

The mood in the rather large meeting room was somber as the previously recorded broadcast of the services for the lost crew members of the El Salvador-B drew to a close. Gaz continued to gaze at the large display that had already changed to show the Federation logo without him noticing. The emotion he felt daily had him dazzlingly caught between what seemed to be two worlds. He had read over the list of the lost crew members before the service as he did so many times since he heard of the ships decommissioning and the reasons behind it. For the past week he felt the guilt of not being with his fellow crew members. Reading the report, as he did several times a day, he couldn't help to think that maybe if he could have been there. Then the experience of centuries of Trill memories replaced the dreamy thoughts with logic and the unfortunate reality.
Gaz had been called to Earth to work on a new concept runabout idea as the Danube class had aged to the point of needing a replacement; and as the Yellowstone class never picked up acceptance after the prototype’s containment loss. This work had also allowed him to visit sick family on Earth and arrange for their care. He was now on Mars finishing his proposal as an experienced navigator and pilot to the Engineering board. With that task finished and only the formality of presenting his proposal by official meeting of the concept review board, he wondered about the next days. He had looked forward getting back to the multi -vector class El Salvador-B but now he wasn't sure of any future plans.
Having walked from the recorded broadcast, finding his way to the arrivals board, he searched for the name of an incoming ship, S.S. River Kwai. He was not sure of who was going to be on board but he did read a report that one of the warp-cores from the El Salvador-B was going to be used in a berthed Excalibur-class vessel being built. He wanted to get his eye on the core before it was reworked and installed. As the River Kwai docked and the passengers disembarked, he caught a glimpse of a very familiar person. He hurried through the flow of people to catch up. Walking up and nearing the Vulcan, Gaz said, “I come to serve.”

Savot and Delbridge departed the River Kwai via the umbilical egress tube Utopia Planitia had extended to seal up to the transport's outer hatch. Savot's belongings had been recovered from the El Salvador-B, including to his sincere pleasure his goldfish Alfred and Isabel, the latter of which having been a recent gift from young Yarna Hope who felt that Alfred had been lonely by himself. Everything salvageable from his quarters had been packed and brought along with him on the transport, and they'd be beamed to a hold on the shipyard cargo area until the new ship's completion when Savot would decide what ultimate destination would lay in store for himself and his things.
As the two entered the main transit terminal of the station, a familiar face made its way through the crowd to greet them. Savot recognized Jamey Gaz as he spoke, "I come to serve."
While those words were often used by vulcans as a formal shorthand of sorts, they were hardly copyrighted so Savot wasn't sure if they were spoken in that sense or just their general meaning. But as he himself was vulcan, and the reply would fit in either case, Savot instinctively responded with the traditional, "Your service honors us."
"It is agreeable to see you again Commander", Savot began, gesturing towards Delbridge, "Mr. Delbridge, this is Jamey Gaz the El Salvador-B's Chief Navigation officer. Commander Gaz, may I introduce Lieutenant Commander Chester Delbridge, an engineer from Jupiter's propulsion research center temporarily reassigned to participate in the completion of the El Salvador-C."
Delbridge winced as usual at hearing his first name out loud, but it was more theatrics than genuine displeasure, "Pleased to meet you, sir."
Savot continued, "Admiral Hayes of Starbase 24 has approved reassignment for any of the former El Salvador's crew to participate in the construction of the new vessel, and serving aboard the ship upon its completion will be voluntary as well. I have no confirmations thus far on personnel who've agreed to the transition, but the ship's specifications and construction schedule are available to you and I'm attempting to organize a dinner meeting this evening with all of the construction department heads to get everyone aware of the progress that's been made so far."
Delbridge keyed a padd, double-checking to make sure all of the specs and diagram files were available before handing it to Jamey, "Basic Excalibur designs have additional cargo bays for transporting equipment, medical supplies, etc. But for the time being at least, the El Salvador-C is slated to function as an Academy ship, so a number of these will be built as classrooms and laboratories instead."
"And while the design's not rated for a Prometheus-class Warp core, I've been running a few dozen theoretical sims that indicate we can pull it off with some reinforcements to the power-transfer systems and increased buffering on the containment fields. That way she'd have a good deal more power than anyone would expect from a ship her size for shields, sensors, weapons if necessary. She should be able to perform admirably in just about any category of assignment that Command saw fit to send her on. She's also slated to test a new system of computer chip that I'll go into more detail on with everyone at the briefing tonight", Delbridge gave a firm nod, his expression clearly animated at the thought of the work they'd all be doing over the next several weeks.
"Maybe you can tell us a bit about your shuttle proposal too", working at a propulsion research center Delbridge certainly had his ear to the ground on such matters, and while specific details had yet to hit the gossip chain there had been mutterings at least of a new runabout design which both he and Savot would find fascinating as they both used to work on similar projects.
Savot nodded his agreement, then spoke a final time before preparing to report in to the shipmaster, "The offer to work on the new vessel is freely open to you, but it is not an order and as such you must feel free to decline the offer should you wish. No offense will be taken." Savot's experience with emotion was broader than many vulcans, and while Starfleet officers in particular showed incredible dedication, he was aware that surviving members of a lost command frequently sought to avoid serving again with the commanding officer in charge at the time of said command's loss.
He wanted no one to feel guilty in the slightest should they choose to pursue other opportunities. Though Jamey's presence would be a welcome one, as he was one of the few officers remaining who had served on the El Salvador-B during Deis Irae's command, a period Savot considered to be somewhat of a golden age for the late Prometheus-class vessel. He experienced a momentary pang of regret as he considered that even if Irae were to return to service someday, she would never again see her first command.

Savot’s explanation of the situation was all too Vulcan and down to business. However, it did not fool Gaz. He had served with Savot long enough to know the, dare say it, feelings from which they were derived - smirking at the thought of feelings and Vulcan in the same cogitation. Still, it was the most efficient method of sizing up the bottom line and getting to the important information. Turning to the Lieutenant Commander during the introductions, “It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Looking at the specs from Delbridge, Gaz scanned over the numbers to see if things balanced out as the Commander continued about cargo bays and something about an Academy ship. His attention returned to the Commander as he talked about the warp core and he agreed that the power transfer would be the first hurdle. “However, past the transfer I would think the shields, sensors, and weapons would need to be upgraded to handle that much power. Burn out of those systems would be a concern. Remember how many pulse phaser coils the Defiant burned through.” Gaz knew that he would be all to accustom with history being from the propulsion research center, but he didn’t want the ship tearing itself up from the inside every time it left port. It was more of a rhetorical statement anyway.
“I would love to sit down with you Commander and go over my proposal before I present,” speaking of the shuttle proposal Gaz was to give. “I would welcome an Engineer’s view.”
Savot returned the two from their geek talk back to the question at hand and continued with the offer extended by Admiral Hayes then muttering on about offense not taken. As if Vulcans could take offense, “Savot, I have served with you before and I will serve with you again. I have read the published report. You and I both know that you not only did the correct thing, but the best thing in that moment. Dissipating the explosion through the dish – genius; not sure the Commander here would have thought of that. I know if I would have been there, as a pilot, I would have been thinking of moving the ship - not using it as a lightning rod.” He let a pause enter the space between the gentlemen mainly to see if Savot would reply. Continuing before he could however, “My orders after this assignment was to return to the El Salvador and return to her I will. In fact I would not turn down an opportunity to work on the ship that I tend to pilot.”

Grinning at the shared line of thinking with Gaz that led to his even now carrying a padd with the Defiant's modifications on it, Delbridge then nodded enthusiastically at Gaz' invitation to hear his shuttle proposal, "Absolutely, sir. I'd be honored." He then listened to Jamey's words aimed at Savot, and he smiled softly. Yep... I think I'm gonna like this guy, the engineer thought to himself, grateful that someone else was voicing their support of his vulcan friend's choices during the incident.
Savot blinked a bit, the only outward sign of surprise as he listened to Jamey speak. Afterwards, the vulcan bowed his head in gratitude, "Your assessment is most appreciated Commander. And it will do the new ship honor to have an officer of its predecessor participate in its completion and serve at the helm. The construction briefing will be in Engineer Lab 3B, at 1930 hours if your schedule permits?"
"Indeed my schedule does permit and I'll be glad to report at 1930 hours," Gaz replied. "My presentation to the shuttle committee isn't until later this week."
Savot nodded to Gaz' response, "Very well; we shall look forward to seeing you there. Until then, Commander." Delbridge shot Jamey a two-fingered salute and followed Savot up to the shipyard's commanding officer to report in.
*************************************************** [Mars Utopia Planitia: Lab 3B 1930 hours]
Commander Shige Akamatsu, head of the construction crews for the El Salvador C, stood at the head of the room's table and nodded sharply in greeting, "Thank you all for coming. Having officers slated for service on the new ship here is a rare pleasure, and having the rest of you here means I don't have to write up my team for going AWOL." Good natured chuckling went around most of the table, and while he didn't join in the laughter, Savot nodded in acknowledgement of the Commander's compliment.
"Thank you Commander, everyone. It is our intention and honor to render assistance and cooperation in this endeavor, and not to look over your shoulders, so to speak", Savot stated, and Commander Akamatsu bowed his head in polite reply.
"To business then", Akamatsu pressed a series of controls that activated both a cutaway side view of the new ship on the main wall viewscreen, as well as a scaled 3-dimensional image that rose from the table's central projector and rotated slowly counter-clockwise. "The El Salvador-C, a custom variant of the Excalibur class starship, hearkening back to the classic Constitution-class design. In general, the Excalibur class essentially takes that design and stretches it in every direction by about 17%. The El Sal-C is 375 meters in length, 142 meters wide, and 80 meters in height. She has 29 decks, all of which have been laid down, but only 17 have full artificial gravity enabled so far."
Slow, red flashes appeared on both the 2- and 3D images to highlight the decks in question. Five of the gravitized decks were the lower-most of the Saucer section, with the other 12 being the lower most of the Engineering Hull. "Additionally, while all of the outer hull material has been procured, very little is in place yet since we still have a number of major systems and components to install. In particular, the support systems needed to regulate the power from our recently delivered Warp Core, courtesy of Commander Delbridge", Akamatsu pointed out the officer in question, who gave a small wave by way of silent introduction.
Shige pressed another series of buttons and the images of the El Salvador shrunk to the bottoms of their respective displays, and another image took center stage, "Obviously there'll be some heavy equipment considerations to make a Prometheus Core work in this class of starship, but we're also getting some new circuitry that should help in every area. What you see here, is the design of new circuits that combine the best aspects of Isolinear chips, and the Bio-neural gelpacks debuted in the starship Voyager."
"The Bio-neural gelpacks transmitted data far faster than the isolinear chips had been able to; but in the field we learned that the biological aspect of the packs was also vulnerable to contamination by bacterial or viral agents", Akamatsu started a motion sequence on the images that highlighted each piece of the chip design.
"The tech heads have rather uncreatively dubbed these Bio-linear chips. The end is the typical starting chip interface with built in circuitry, that then leads into the rest of the chip which is made of a bio-neural gelatinous material", the images of the chip wiggled to demonstrate this, "They insert into place like traditional isolinear chips, and once in place their bio-gelatinous qualities allow the rapid response time granted by the Intrepid-class gelpacks."
Akamatsu continued, keying the next display up, "In response to the gelpacks' vulnerability to infection, and then transmitting said infections to the entire gelpack system, an additional safeguard has been added into the structures of these." A small energy discharge traveled from the new chip's handle down into the gelatinous body and the wiggling instantly ceased and turned rigid, like solidified amber. "A single signal can be transmitted to every chip including surrounding ones that haven't yet been infected, so as to quarantine the infected ones and prevent that infection from spreading. At which point the infected sections can be bypassed to limit the impact on overall ship efficiency until those chips can be treated or replaced."
"These will also be able to handle far more energy travelling through them without overload, which should lessen console explosions during combat situations", Akamatsu then shut down the center table visual, bringing the El Sal-C cross-section back up on the wall screen, "All right, that's the biggest of the new things to debrief everyone on."
"The main draw in having the future crew of the El Salvador-C participate in this stage of her preparation were for things like being able to actually have a voice in the designs of your quarters, the offices of the senior staff, key areas like the bridge/sickbay/engineering", he then gestured toward Jamey, "However, we're thrilled to have any input on the engines from a navigation officer of your experience Commander Gaz; Mr. Delbridge told us you'd already hit the ground running thinking back to the Defiant power issues, so with no official Chief Engineer assigned for the ship yet... if you're willing you're welcome to head up that of construction with Delbridge."
Gaz wasn't really interested in heading up construction and especially not one of the Engineering type but he did like the idea of helping in that effort. "I will be glad help Commander Delbridge in those efforts - as far as head up that area of construction, I will be glad to report on our progress until an official Chief Engineer is appointed - Sir."
(If anyone else is ready to jump in for this meeting, feel entirely free to have learned about it during the day, and just jump in with any comments on the construction and I'll happily respond)

With work being started on the salvaged warp core, it was important to get the connections to the new ship better than tight. Along with the salvaged core, other parts also accompanied it from where the Prometheus class El Salvador-B was berthed being scrapped. Among those parts were all the power couplings and other connections that attached the core to its fuel source. With the smaller sized ship and essentially over powered core, the first bottle neck would be those connections and the main power supplies to the nacelles. Any other taps running to supply the ships power would be secondary if those couldn't handle the task.
"Sirs," Gaz replied to Savot and the room, "The best starting-course of action would be to ensure the main supply to the core, and the main supply from the core is better than rock solid. I know the role of this ship is very different than a Prometheus, but I also know the propensity of this crew getting into tough spots. As a navigator, I need to know she will respond to needed maneuvers when asked." Gaz added, "Thankfully, from the onset of this ship's design, she was intended to carry more power than her frame expressed from an outward appearance; as her role of supply, support, and general work-house of the fleet. If her intention now is to be more of a chameleon role, what design changes are already on the slate?"
The choices of the fleet to scrap a war ship in favor one of support and diplomacy matched with the easing back into the Federation's core values. However, Gaz knew that the time to 'study war, no-more' was still some time from here. For that reason, he was asking with intention to fish for what the Commodore knew. With some areas of space still in the balance from past incursions, the choice to stand and fight, while helping to rebuild, would most assuredly be needed.

Commander Akamatsu nodded his agreement with Jamey's sentiments regarding priority of the power system, as did Savot. The construction head then addressed Gaz' question, "The role of overall work-horse of the fleet is still her primary niche in addition to her primary duties as an Academy vessel, but as you've stated the extra surplus of power she'll bring to a given scenario gives her a few more options than the average ship of her class."
"What normally serve simply as cargo bays are being outfitted with holographic projection systems. These can be converted to suit whatever need we happen to have at the time, numerous classroom environments for cadets, temporary berthing for troops and equipment if we're tasked with resupplying a front line, they can even be converted into additional sickbays if we're responding to a large-scale medical emergency", Akamatsu keyed controls that highlighted the aforementioned cargo bays near the bottom of the secondary hull, "Normally, using holograms to supplement medical facilities is a last-ditch measure due to the risk of power failures dropping all your patients on the floor and your life support equipment vanishing into thin air. But with the extra power available from this Prometheus core, that will be a far more feasible option should the need arise."
"Additionally, a power surplus will allow the El Salvador-C to venture places other ships would not be able, or remain in hot-spots longer. Extra power to shields can keep us in sensor range of spacial anomalies longer, or help us run blockades to provide humanitarian relief. Also, not to be understated is that with extra reinforcement around the core and the extra power that comes with it, you should be able to maintain higher warp speeds safely, for longer than the standard engine designs could, letting you get into or out of trouble spots faster."
"The weapons are standard fare; and all the Excalibur-class armor is designed to be tough so they can ship cargo or colonists safely. No MVAM with this model, just standard saucer-separation, battle bridge included on the secondary hull. Can also detach either or both of the Warp Nacelles if they take severe enough damage to put the rest of the ship at risk. Main Shuttlebay doors split open at the ship's aft just like the old Constitution class", another working of the controls spun a 3d image of the new ship around to show the very doors he last mentioned opening up to allow shuttle takeoff and landing.
"Several science labs, medical research lab, the usual holodecks in addition to the former cargo-bay areas refit with their own projectors, all of which will be quite useful in teaching the students as well as continuing Starfleet's mission of exploration. At least, that's what's on the drawing board. It'll take us, over the next weeks and months, to make it happen. Commodore, any final words?", Akamatsu turned to Savot to let him end the briefing with whatever command sentiments of inspiration he had in mind.
Savot rose with his arms at his sides, and Delbridge's face winced in concern at the very uncustomary posture of his friend. The vulcan then watched the slow rotation of the new El Salvador's 3-dimensional image throughout one full revolution and found himself genuinely looking forward to the work ahead. Knowing that he'd start work the next morning on his former command's successor alleviated not all, but a portion of the disappoint he felt in himself, and he took a deep breath before clasping his hands behind his back in his traditional manner, "The work all of you have done thus far appears exemplary. It will be my honor to contribute to it alongside you and my officers. And Commander Akamatsu, if it is acceptable to you... please just call me captain."
Delbridge's smile threatened to split his face open and he let out an inward sigh of relief. As everyone dispersed for the night, Delbridge headed to his temporary quarters for the first good sleep he'd get since he'd heard of the El Salvador-B's untimely demise.
*************************************************** [3 Months Later: Earth-Orbiting Shipyard]
With 94% of the El Salvador-C's construction completed, the ship's engines were tested ever so gently nudging her over from Mars to Earth where the final touches could be made. All the internal structure was present now, all the decks were in place, artificial gravity and life support active in all areas. Consoles in some of the labs, names of locations being painted on doors and hatches, and the procurement and placement of individual crew furniture for their respective quarters were really all that was left to take care of.
Duty officers had started to report and get a handle on their daily routine. Some older officers who hadn't expected to serve actively on a ship again in their lifetimes suddenly found themselves with one last opportunity to do so as Academy Instructors and Teaching Assistants, their experience would prove invaluable to the new minds joining Starfleet. As construction schedules were frequently erratic, no concrete student assignments had been set in stone yet, but as each day brought the new vessel closer to full readiness Savot had no doubt they would begin welcoming students soon.
Before the remains of the El Salvador-B had been fully disposed of, Delbridge made one final excursion to the battered hulk to retrieve a finishing touch of sorts... the center seat. It's console circuitry had been burnt out the same as the rest of the ship so all that needed to be replaced, which he did on his own time reprogramming it with all the readouts the captain of a new Excalibur-class ship would need to have at the ready. He'd asked Admiral Hayes to flat-out assign Savot the command of the new ship, knowing that his sense of responsibility would likely override any feelings of guilt or self-doubt the vulcan might be harboring over losing his command.
And over the years he'd slowly been able to get to know Savot after his return from the Mirror Universe many years ago, Delbridge came to understand that the vulcan didn't see the El Salvador as just a ship. Savot had been rescued by the El Salvador-A when an MU ship that was trying to raid our universe breached the veil; Savot had been a prisoner on that ship and as soon as quantum signature scans confirmed he rightfully belonged in this reality, he'd been offered a position as Chief of Operations on the El Sal-A.
Mere months afterwards, an attack by the android Lore and a reprogrammed army at his disposal had forced the ship's captain to initiate Auto-Destruct. The crew had evacuated and were assigned to the ship's replacement, a new Prometheus class El Salvador-B, and Savot felt honor-bound to help see the new ship off to a good start. Only after she'd been thoroughly shaken down did Savot return to his former job of engine design and testing at Jupiter Station... where it so happened he met the unique Lt. Commander Chester W. Delbridge who quickly made it his daily goal to irk the vulcan in some way shape or form.
A couple of years later the El Salvador command crew for various reasons were scattered to the winds and the need for bridge officers was dire, so Savot requested a transfer to return to his former position at Ops. Family crises, assassinations, and various other goings-on found the ship in need first of a First Officer, which he reluctantly did his best to fulfill in support of his close friend and colleague then-Captain Deis Irae. Having her own demons to face, she too had to leave, and while he had no desire to do so... in fact didn't truly believe himself equal to the job, Savot nonetheless accepted command until the Admiralty could find a suitable replacement.
Though his own feelings regarding his command abilities had changed little since, if a superior officer of sound mind and judgement gave him the assignment, Delbridge really believed Savot would accept it. The El Salvador had not only saved his life, it had in part become his life, his home even moreso than Vulcan. This was where he wished to be, and if others could forgive him its predecessor's destruction... Delbridge hoped Savot could forgive himself for it as well. Hence, the same chair he'd grown used to. It was the kind of detail most vulcans would probably roll their eyes out, which was just one reason among many that Delbridge thanked his lucky stars he was from Tennessee.
The engineer's fears were finally alleviated when Savot moved his fish tank aboard ship and had Alfred and Isabel settled in his quarters.

When Nayomi beamed aboard the brand new El Salvador C she beamed in with a big smile on her face and a small suitcase in one hand. This was to be her new home, and what a place it would be! She had waited patiently on Starbase Assailent day after day while her classmates charged off through the stars on their assigments. With each day she crew more and more concerned she would wander the starbase's halls for an eternity, like some sort of metal purgatory. Then her call came in and the wait was well worth it.
The Section's flagship, and a brand new one at that. Top of the line with a warp core that she still had trouble wrapping her mind around. She spent the trip here going over the specs and was floored at every page. She was particularly excited to check out the medical research labs, and the abilities for the cargo bays. They where set up to use holo technology to turn into emergency medical centres if necessary. Imagine not having to put patients on any bare scrap of ground you could lay a sheet on!
she dumped her carry on suitcase in her quarters, initially startled to see two technicians still installing some of her furniture and tinkering with the fixtures. The room was larger then she had expected and for the first time she realized she would not have a room-mate. Nayomi could not remember the last time she had sleeping quarters alone. As a child her twin sister and her shared a room right up until she moved out, and even then she could not afford a place to herself. In fact she would put credits on the fact that for the first time she had a space of her own. Nayomi slipped past the decorator who was labelling the door and started heading to sickbay, but once on the turbo-lift she stopped.
I'm getting ahead of myself, I have not even reported in yet she smiled. "Computer, where is Commodore Savot?"
"Commodore Savot is in his ready room" the computer replied, even its voice sounded new
"Bridge" Nayomi commanded and turbolift, which smoothly headed upwards.
The bridge was bustling with activity, there was two crew members fussing with a centre chair that looked like it came off an old ship, this peaked Nayomi's interest momentarily, although she was soon distracted by trying to determine which crew members where temporarily assigned to complete the vessel and which she would be serving with.
A few looked up at her and did the usual double take, she smiled at them and they quickly looked away. caught you looking she thought to herself. They would get used to her soon, once they started recognizing her as their Chief Medical officer and not her dancing sister.
She pressed the door chime for the ready room and waited patiently
"Come"
Nayomi entered to see the Vulcan Commodore standing on the opposite side of the desk that the captain would normally sit, as he'd been double-checking the power flow from the bridge circuits into the Ready Room. As Nayomi entered; however, the Vulcan was talking into his computer console whose screen was presently turned towards the door since that's where he'd been working, and visible on the screen was an image from within his personal quarters, specifically that of a fish tank with two occupants.
"Ensign Nayomi Chavet, Chief Medical Officer, Reporting for duty sir."

Savot observed the computer screen as his goldfish were displayed to prove their well-being. The screen then zoomed out to include the image of Lt. Commander Delbridge exercising a distinctly 'I told you so' posture, "See? I told you they were all right. There was just a small hiccup in the matter re-sequencer that started to add bathing soap into the tank instead of the normal purifying solution. I tracked the problem to a segment of computer code in the replicator system; trust me you could have had it worse. I'm on my way to run damage control in the officer's lounge. The replicator started pumping out banana pudding non-stop and now it's ankle-deep."
Savot raised an eyebrow in curiosity, "If memory serves Commander, you are a known connoisseur of the food in question."
Delbridge rolled his eyes and looked Savot square in the face over the video feed, "You know no self-respecting Delbridge would have anything to do with replicated banana pudding. We have our pride."
Savot dipped his head slightly as though in apology, "Indeed, Mr. Delbridge. Once you've located the programming fault it should be possible to rid ourselves of the majority of the mess by using the transporters to break the matter back down to its molecular components and recycle it into the ship's energy stores."
Delbridge's image gave a two-fingered salute that signaled his agreement and then ended the conversation returning the computer to the standard Starfleet background emblem. Savot turned to address the new officer that had greeted him, "Forgive the delay Ensign Chavet; your patience is most appreciated. Welcome aboard the El Salvador. I am Commodore Savot, though aboard ship I prefer the title of Captain as it takes less time to say and is therefore more efficient."
Savot made a habit of preparing a padd for each new transfer aboard the ship including the location of their quarters, duty station, and office if applicable. He handed Nayomi a padd containing the relevant data for her, though he knew on occasion some officers had already seen their quarters before he had the opportunity to meet with them, "This contains the locations of your assigned quarters, main sickbay, and the medical research labs. Also included are the general specifications for the El Salvador C's Bio-Linear circuitry**. I was pleased to see a background in Bio-tech in your dossier; between yourself and the engineering staff we should be well equipped to address any difficulties with the circuits should we encounter them."
"The El Salvador's primary mission will be that of serving as a training vessel for Academy Cadets from all fields of Starfleet service. The ship's construction is nearing completion and we should be ready for our initial shakedown cruise within 2 to 4 weeks barring unforeseen difficulty. While the types and number of equipment are set in stone so to speak, you do have some input as to their positioning with Sickbay and the Labs if you have personal preferences as to their layout. Do you have any questions or concerns you wish to pose?", Savot clasped his hands behind him at the small of his back after Nayomi had taken the padd from him.
(**The Bio-Linear circuits were mentioned higher up in the thread if more info is needed/wanted)

As Savot completed his conversation with Commander Delbridge regarding the replicators Nayomi struggles to supress a grin. The malfunction reminded her of a prank a few of her classmates had pulled on some of the new recruits in their final year. They had re-programmed the replicators to produce everything in purple, it had been quite entertaining until they where reprimended. Even then the Instructors had a hard time being seriouse during the hearing.
"Forgive the delay Ensign Chavet; your patience is most appreciated. Welcome aboard the El Salvador. I am Commodore Savot, though aboard ship I prefer the title of Captain as it takes less time to say and is therefore more efficient."
Nayomi was glad ot hear this, Commodore always felt so clumsy on the tongue. He handed her a padd and she took a quick glance at it.
"This contains the locations of your assigned quarters, main sickbay, and the medical research labs. Also included are the general specifications for the El Salvador C's Bio-Linear circuitry**. I was pleased to see a background in Bio-tech in your dossier; between yourself and the engineering staff we should be well equipped to address any difficulties with the circuits should we encounter them."
The Bio-linear Circuitry was what most excited her about the Exacliber-C. She had worked with Bio-Neural Circuits back in the lab on Trill, but these where of a much more ingenius design. They solved the problem of ship-wide infections and where easier to install and work with. She could not wait to get a first hand look at them. “I guess with the chips the ship becomes a bit of an extra patient for me then. “she grinned, and then stiffled it. Perhaps as a Vulcan Savot would not approve of her more jovial manner, then again she had heard that he was a little less stuffy then some of his species. He did not seem to react, so she took that as a good sign.
Do you have any questions or concerns you wish to pose?"
Nayomi skimmed the padd a little more, it all seemed in order and she would read it more later. “I will have to make a thorough inventory of the labs and sickbay to insure that we have everything we need and decide if the layout will work. As a training vessel, I like to see the beds spaced further apart then on most ships, that way a group of students won't be crowding the patients and nurses too much. I would also like to see any permenant crewmembers for physicals as their schedules allow. Of course if there records are up to date I could let it slide, but in my experience most crewmembers need a little prodding to visit sickbay.”
<tag Savot>
Once dismissed Nayomi took the shuttle bay done to sickbay which, like the bridge, was a flurry of activity. Half un-packed containers of supplies occupied most of the beds while technicians worked on variouse equipment, her office seemed to be a temperary storage area.
“Can I help you?” a nurse asked, her arms loaded down with a box of hypo-sprays.
“Yes, I an Ensign Nayomi Chavet, Chief Medical Officer. I just arrived today.”
The women gasped, and nearly dropped her load. “Oh, I am... We did not expect you until tomorrow.” She squeeked.
“It's ok, I re-arranged my travel plans to get here a little sooner. I am certain that once you and the rest of the staff are finished this will look more like a sickbay, and less like my old dorm room. What is you name?” Nayomi smiled, trying to set the women a ease.
“Nurse Cutler, Janice.” She put the box down and held out a hand.
Nayomi completed the hand shake. “Nice to meet you Janice. Tell me, where are you and the rest of the team at in terms of set up?”
Janice's answer was a good once, they where much further along then it appeared. Nayomi summoned the rest of the staff and introduced herself and re-deligated a few duties she felt were being over-looked. She then cleared her office out enough to be usuable and began a message to all crew members ot report for a physical. She had hoped to start the physicals today, but that would have to wait until later. Right now Sickbay was in no shape to accept patients.

The morning was normal as it could be with the hustle of getting a new ship out of dock. Jamey had finished his breakfast and was taking a few moments before leaving his quarters and starting his day. Answering a few communiques and returning a message to his home world, Trill. It had been sometime since he had talked with a Symbiosis Commission Representative. Following up with them, with each passing year, become something of less concern and with each passing year the joining was less of a rejection risk. Being joined from since he could remember, he had to be reminded to reply to the Symbiosis Commission from time-to-time. His responce was routine at this point anyway and soon the message was over, signed, and sent.
Leaving the calm of his room, walking to the main shuttle bay, he needed to check with the flight crew and to attending the morning briefing. All was in order, as the ship had recently received its full complement of shuttle craft and runabouts and all of the escape pods were installed. The crew evacuation drill was scheduled prior to leaving the system - around some moon he was sure the Captain would choose. The recent graduating class of pilots from flight academy were aboard and the working holo suites were in use for docking simulations for this class of Star-ship. Leaving the briefing and leaving the main shuttle bay he made his way to impulse control to validate the latest diagnostics. On his way, he received a message from the Chief Medical Officer, Nayomi Chavet. Reading her record just last night, he was interested in meeting a fellow Trill. Stopping just short of his destination, he diverted to the nearest lift.
Rounding the corridor and entering the Main Sick Bay he saw a similar sight as the rest of the ship - as the room looked more like storage than its intended purpose. He dodged his way pass nurses and medics to the Chief's office, happy to see a familiar pattern of spots he gave the side window a few taps, "Hello," walking in and extending his hand. "Commander Gaz, I have a message here asking for a medical review." Looking around her office, "Am I at the correct location?"

Nayomi had been reading up on her staff's records when she heard a light tapping. She looked up to see a red-suited officer had successfully navigated his way through the obstacle course that was sickbay and was knocking at her window. She recognized him instantly as a fellow Trill and a few moments later she had a good idea of who he was. It still seemed odd, and some what intimidating that such high ranking officers would be working along side her. It would take a long time for her to feel like a peer and not a student. But the fleet was low on medical officers right now and here she was, the only crew member on board who could actually boss around the Commodore. She hoped she never would need to do that.
"Hello," walking in and extending his hand. "Commander Gaz, I have a message here asking for a medical review." Looking around her office, "Am I at the correct location?"
Nayomi cracked a smile. "You are very eager." she laughed. "Yes, you have the location right. I was not expecting anyone to drag themselves in here until tomorrow. I would apologize for the mess, but since the rest of the ship is in similar condition I won't bother." She took his hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you Commander. I am Ensign Nayomi Chavet, the new ship's doctor. I should be able to clear a bio bed in here and get your examination done right away if you don't mind waiting a moment for me to gather my equipment."
Gaz did not mind, so Nayomi directed one of the nurses to clear the boxes off bio bed one and collected her tricorder and other analysis tools. She called up Gaz's medical record on the computer and gave it a quick second look as he took a seat on the bed.
"Fascinating, I think you are the only half Human half Trill I know, and you are joined." She commented, hoping that notes of envy would not show through. She had gotten over her own rejection my the commission several years ago, but the sting was still there. They claimed she was not physically suited to the privilege, but shortly after accepted her identical sister. Now here was someone, only half Trill, who had been given the opportunity she had been denied.
She began scanning him with the tricorder, and had its reading sent directly to the console for future analysis. So far he seemed perfectly healthy. "I see that apart from the usual reaction to insect bites, you have no other allergies, that is good. Your medical record seems very clean, is there anything that could be missing? Old injuries, Illnesses as a child? These things are often missed in the records, but can influence the body long after recovery." She finished with the tricorder and put it away. With a wave of the hand she signalled him to lay back on the bed so she could use the bed's own scanner to do a more in depth examination. She did not expect to find anything.

Noting the 'down to business' mode the Doctor seemed move into, he surmised the answer to his question that he was wanting to ask her. He didn't think she was joined but he knew of the high mark the commission set for applicants and the agitation that caused when a non-joined Trill conversed with a joined. It was just about the same body stance and tone of voice he had unfortunately become accustomed. Not that he wanted to be accustomed to that but over time he just knew it best to not prolong those situations. Yet, he needed to talk to her - to someone with spots, someone Trill. Because he belonged to two worlds, he was alienated from both. It wasn't his fault that his parents chose to create one from the genetic make-up of two words, but it was he who had to deal with the place in life it caused. The fact that his Father held such a high important link between the two worlds diplomatically is why the Trill government pushed the commission to accept his application to be joined. The added stress of finding out he was actually genetically able to join forced the government's hand, and the commissions, to follow-through with the joining. That was always to much information for such a simple greeting, so he normally never brought it up. Most non-joined Trills had so much in their own upbringing about the stigma of being joined that listening was to hard for them anyway.
As she motioned to him to lay back on the bio-bed, her question made him think back to his youth. "I can think of no prior injuries or complications that is not listed in the medical database," he replied but then regretted the coldness of his words. Thinking back to the Doctors comment about being eager, "Its not so much that I'm eager, Doctor, but I wanted to meet you. It has been some time since I have talked with a fellow Trill face-to-face. Star Fleet has its way of taking your time with anything other than work." Trying to lighten the mood, "I generally stay away from any thing classified as Apocrita and I always travel with a hypo-spray."

The shuttle gracefully flew around the now almost completed El-Salvador, Hannah had to admit the design had a certain appeal to it not as graceful looking as an Intrepid class or sleek as a Sovereign class perhaps but it had something.
She took a deep breath as she gave a nod to the pilot indicating she had seen enough. Had she been somebody else she might of felt a pang of guilt running off with her family on shore leave while the majority of her crew stayed to work on this new ship. But she wasn't somebody else and the rain forests of Betazed would always beat out technical jibberish and manual labour in her mind.
She shrugged besides she was a Counsellor and she had read the psychological files on most of the crew and had come to the conclusion that they probably enjoyed themselves as much as she had enjoyed time off.
She looked back at her husband Dean and stuck out her tongue as she noticed the rather sour faced look he had adopted the moment he had spotted the ship. As an Engineer himself she almost had to drag him away kicking and screaming, he made more of a fuss on the way to Betazed then their eighteen month old son did.
She looked back out just as the shuttle entered the main shuttle bay, already Hannah could tell that the ship was nearly complete had there been a vast amount of work left to do the shuttle bay would have been filled with yet to be installed equipment. As it was only a few crates were left stacked against a far wall.
The shuttle landed with a soft thud and moments later the hum of the engines powering down sounded. Hannah took a deep breath, she had mixed feelings about returning to duty, half of her protested and the other half looked forward to it.
She shrugged slightly as she turned in her seat. "I will go report to the Commodore, I shouldn't be long I'll help you unpack when I get back." She got up out of her chair and leaned down to give him a kiss. "Then you can go play with the warp core or whatever."
She found Savot standing in his ready room staring rather intently at his computer console. "Captain, Counsellor Jackon reporting for duty." She didn't stand at attention but she did straighten up slightly as she spoke.

As the scans did there thing Nayomi felt an awkward silence grow and the seconds stretched out longer. She smiled weakly. "So I hear you have been working on the new Bio-linear Circuitry. I worked in a bio-mechanical lab back on Trill for about a year before being accepted at the Academy. I am looking forward to working with the technology in the real world."
Jamie apparently picked up on her attempts at conversation and offered up a tidbit himself. 'Apart from the lab, what else did you do before the academy?"
"I went to medical school for awhile and worked for a mobile emergency care program. Lets just say I know how to fly a medical shuttle very fast in densely populated areas." She laughed. "It's been awhile, but I wouldn't mind taking one of the new shuttles out for a spin sometimes. If that's alright of course. Do they have the bio-linear circuitry as well? I have not had much of a chance to read up on them."
<Tag Jamie>
The scanner completed it's work and Nayomi glanced over the readout "I am seeing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary, but I will take a closure look at the results and let you know if anything concerns me." The device lifted off and Jamie sat up. "My door is always open, If you have even the slightest case of the sniffles don't worry about inconveniencing me. You could have the kamaraazite flu.
After Jamie left Nayomi went back into her office and finished up her report. Hopefully all the other crew members would be as healthy as Jamie, if anyone was sick, she would have to find something to treat them with, and in sickbay's current state, that might be difficult.
"Doctor" one of the nursing staff interupted, "there is a crewman Anne Smith outside waiting to see you. She is here for her check up. An ensign Lin Hezarat is outside waiting as well
So much for her having to order the crew in for their medicals, it seemed they where coming in droves. Her staff would just have to finish putting sickbay together without her

Pondering her question while feeling like she just closed the door on a 'Let's talk about home' conversation, he offered an answer to her question.
"Most of the shuttles in the fleet are still using isoliner chips, however I'm sure the bio-type are making it to the fleet. I don't think that every shuttle will have them simply because availability, maintainability, and skills of maintenance personnel. I can say that I have not seen a medical shuttle on our manifest of shuttles - maybe we could bring that up to the Captain before we leave space dock."
With his medical review over and feeling a bit disappointed that she didn't want to chat about Trill, he left sick bay and started toward the bridge.
<sometime after Hannah Jackson's talk to Savot>
Standing near the lift doors working on one of the remaining action items prior to the shake-down cruise, Jamey noticed the Counsellor leaving the Captain's ready room.
"Hello Counsellor, glad to see you back aboard. Have you had time to settle in?"

***Will edit if needed for any response given by Savot**
Hannah stepped out of the ready room and finally took a moment to look at the bridge, Savot was one of the Captains in the fleet who extended an offer for his Counsellors to take a position on the bridge if they so desired. Hannah in all honesty had been reluctant to do so in hopes of further distancing herself from Stacey.
Her train of thought was lost when Gaz approached her.
"Hello Counsellor, glad to see you back aboard. Have you had time to settle in?"
Hannah smiled politely, as she looked towards him. "Greetings Commander, it is nice to see you again." She shook her head slightly. "No we only just arrived, I didn't want to get here until the ship was almost complete, the whole process bores me to silly." she shrugged slightly.
"I almost failed the basic engineering course in the academy.. so you can imagine how useful I would have been."

I would also like to see any permanent crewmembers for physicals as their schedules allow. Of course if there records are up to date I could let it slide, but in my experience most crewmembers need a little prodding to visit sickbay.”
Savot nodded in acknowledgement rather than agreement as he had no personal experience with the reluctant patient scenario, but he had heard the same sentiment voiced by other doctors. Her remark about the biobed spacing to allow sufficient room for student observation was insightful; in times such as these where great amounts of activity took place, many minds would find it difficult to consider all of the potential details.
And while he had no reaction, and perhaps even failed to recognize, the humor aspect of Nayomi's comment about the ship being another patient, he was nonetheless pleased at her attitude since the statement was literally accurate to a large degree. It was the kind of thing Dr. Deis Irae would have said back when she'd come aboard the El Salvador-B fresh out of the Academy. That young doctor had gone on to captain that starship, so who knew the heights this new doctor's career would reach over time?
"For my part, Doctor I shall endeavor to set aside sufficient time for my examination within the next 48 hours, should both our schedules permit. I shall not keep you further but again welcome aboard; I look forward to your service with us", Savot dismissed Ensign Chavet with a polite bow of his head before turning back to the various sections' construction reports.

Savot wasn't as surprised as he could have been when shortly thereafter Hannah Jackson arrived outside the Ready Room. Giving her vocal clearance to enter Savot finished entering his confirmation of having reviewed the report on his screen.
"Captain, Counselor Jackson reporting for duty." She didn't stand at attention but she did straighten up slightly as she spoke.
Pressing the button to send the report back to where it originated, Savot turned to face her and leaned forward a bit in a slight bow, "Welcome to the El Salvador-C Counselor. The confirmation that you and your family would be joining us was welcome news. Your assigned quarters should provide enough room for all of you; any additional furniture or components desired should be procurable via the shipyard quartermaster."
He took another padd, programming it with what was probably the already known location of her quarters, and also the Counselor's Office and handed it to her, "Likewise, whatever furniture you believe would be most therapeutic for your office, I shall defer to your experience in its selection. I point out that a seated station on the bridge frequently occupied by a counselor is included in our vessel's design; though of course the choice to opt for bridge duty is entirely yours. Do you have any questions or concerns you wish to pose before you get settled?"
