OCC: Since no one really knows Vulcan or the language of these people, I will be using ~ to express the M'Tok language.
"Mr Logan, if you're finished, report to the shuttle pod, that's where the MACOs and I are headed now."
Jack stopped working responded to his superior officer and headed towards the shuttle bay. He didn't want to leave, and he was almost certain that any competent communications officer wouldn't want to either. The chance to discover a new language is everyones dream and here he was doing it.
It took a short time for Jack to get to the shuttle pod and he saw that the MACO's were preparing for departure. Without saying anything Jack helped them put everything away. Jack realized that the Challenger could help him translate the language even more.
After a couple of minutes of putting all their equipment and the Vulcan look alikes into the shuttle they were ready to depart.
---------------------------------
=^=Away team report to the conference room immediately=^= That was the first thing they heard when they stepped off the shuttle pod. Everyone except the MACO's quickly left the shuttle bay and headed towards the bridge.
"Okay gentlemen, we have twelve hours until the Vulcan ships get here. We must assume that these Vulcans, or whatever they are, are responsible for the destruction of the Kisari. I want to know why. Mr Logan, I want you and Mr Adams to find out all you can from the data we collected."
"Yes sir," Jack said as he left the little meeting and went to his station. That is where Lt. Adams shortly met up with him and they were soon deep into translating the language.
It was hard work, but Jack twinked the universal translator so it could finally completely read the language. When had finally done it, Lt. Adams just smiled at Jack and went back to work.
'Smith to bridge, we need Mr Logan down here to translate'
"Acknowledged," said Benzin, "He's on his way." Jack took the extra translater and headed towards the brig.
-----------------------------------
When Jack walked into the brig, he saw the three prisoners sitting on chairs and the MACO's asking them questions. The prinsoners were just looking past them and ignoring them.
~Who are you?~ Jack asked as he walked in. The MACO's were surprised when Jack started speaking another language, but they quickly realized that he was here to help them. Yet the prisoners didn't answer.
"Why won't they talk to you?" Rickman asked.
"They are trying to ignore me, Captain," Jack said as he quickly turned his attention back to the prisoners.
~You will talk to me, why did you attack the Vulcan ship?~ When Jack said Vulcan all three men twitched with anger. They hate Vulcan's Jack told himself.
~Don't you dare speak of those [word deleted] in front of us~ the one in the middle said.
~Then tell me who you are?~ Jack asked.
~We are the M'Tok, I am Mi'Zan the Captain of my ship and I demand that you release us~ Jack tried to keep his cool at the arrogance of Mi'Zan, there was no way that they would let them go.
~You are in no place to negogiate~ Jack said as he worked the translator so that even the MACO's would now be able to understand the M'Tok.
"Captain Rickman you will now be able to talk to intergate them now," Jack said as he stepped aside and let the MACO's do there work.

"We are here to escort your ship to Vulcan, Captain. We are puzzled by your delay and your calling of another Starfleet vessel. Could you explain these actions?"
A stern looking Vulcan with greying hair was addressing Captain Benzin with a quizzical look.
"I know that you may have evidence to the contrary, but we did not destroy the Kisari." said Benzin.
The Vulcan did not move or make any attempts to speak.
"We detected a ship that was interfering with our communications, it moved to intercept us and opened fire on us. Thankfully, the starship Columbia came to our aid and we were able to capture the ship. Are you aware of the M'Tok race?" said Benzin.
"Yes. We maintain friendly relations with the M'Tok. But we fail to see why a M'Tok ship would fire on you, Captain, unless..."
"They were a member of the sect that hates Vulcans." said Benzin.
"Ah, we are aware of the problem." said the Vulcan Commander. "Do you have evidence of their actions?"
"We have their computer core which we are transmitting to you now." He said with a look at Logan, who then went about sending the data. "We also have three prisoners, who we are interrogating."
"We will require you to transport them to our vessel." said the Vulcan Commander.
"We'd like to finish our interrogations first, see if we can get to the bottom of this so that, if possible, we don't have to return with you to Vulcan." said Benzin.
"You may have one Earth hour." said the Commander and the transmission ended.
Benzin hit the comm panel and opened a channel to the brig, "Mr Rickman, we need answers in an hour. Find out how they altered all the data to make it appear that we destroyed the Kisari."
<Rickman>
Benzin then turned to Kirk and said, "Kirk, see if you can find anything in the computer, find out how they did it.
<Kirk>
Benzin turned towards the viewscreen and stared at the Vulcan ships. The next hour would decide their fate.

Two hours later, the Vulcan captian was in the ready room with Benzin.
"It seems that you were correct, Captain. The M'Tok were trying to disrupt relations between our peoples. After analysing the computer data ourselves and conducting our own interrogation of the prisoners, we have enough evidence to absolve your crew of blame. We are sorry to have inconvenienced you. You and your ship are free to go."
"Thank you." said Benzin as the Vulcan got up and crossed to the door.
------------------
A while later, Benzin left the ready room and entered the bridge.
"Mr Adams, there is a transmission for you from headquarters in the ready room." He said to Adams.
Adams was mildly surprised but nevertheless, he crossed the bridge to the ready room. As the door closed behind him he sat down at the desk and activated the screen.
"Admiral Gardner." said Shawn in surprise. What did Admiral Gardner want with him.
"Lieutenant Adams," said Gardner, "you know that we need to find a new Captain for Challenger. I have just offered the job to your friend Commander Benzin, but he turned it down. So, I'm offering it to you now."
Adams didn't couldn't believe it, he hadn't expected this at all.
"But why me? he asked.
"We have no other candidates available here on Earth or anywhere else." replied Gardner.
"What about Commander T'Pol, or Captain Anderson?" asked Adams.
"T'Pol doesn't want to leave Enterprise, and to be honest, even if she did, we'd have a hard time getting Jonathan Archer to give her up. Anderson has no experience with NX Class ships. You do. I know this is somewhat irregular, and unexpected, but you've proven yourself worthy and I believe that you're the best man for the job." said Gardner.
"Well, then, yes." said Adams. He didn't really have to think about it, he'd wanted to be a starship captain, but he hadn't expected to be one so soon, or of an NX Class starship.
Gardner smiled, "Well then I hereby grant you field promotion to the rank of Captain. Congratulations, you just broke the record for youngest captain."
Adams smilied and knew that it wasn't really true.
"I'll contact you shortly with your new orders. Congratulations, Captain. Gardner out." The screen went blank and Shawn sat in that chair, his chair, in a daze for the next five minutes."
He got up and entered the bridge. Benzin was in the Captain's chair. As Adams entered, he looked up at him. He didn't have to ask the question.
"I took it." said Adams.
A smile spread over Benzin's face and got up and shook Adams' hand. "Congratulations, Captain."
At these words, several officers looked up in confusion.
Adams looked round, then his eyes fell on the Captain's chair, his chair. Slowly, he walked over to it and sat down. It was even more comfortable than the last time he had sat in it. How would he announce this to the crew, how would they take it?
He pressed the button on the chair that gave him a shipwide speaker. All of a sudden, he couldn't think of anything to say. In the end, he went with a simple, "This is Shawn Adams, I have been promoted to Captain of Challenger. I will inform you of your orders shortly."

'Mr Rickman, we need answers in an hour. Find out how they altered all the data to make it appear that we destroyed the Kisari.' 'Very well, I shall see what we can do' Rickman dismissed Logan; the interrogated man couldn't have anyone but Khan to look to for help. If one of the Marines was the best bet for safety, it meant he would confess to that Marine, not a Starfleet officer who might not know what to do. Besides, it wasn't normal practice to allow unqualified people to watch. Rickman turned on the M'Tok/Vulcan man. Time to find answers. 'Are you ready to talk?' Rickman asked him The man just made a murmur that the translator couldn't translate. It basically meant 'no' from what Rickman knew of people under interrogation, which wasn't inconsiderable. Smith jolted the man with it another time and Rickman began to ask what he needed to know. Not too long later, the man had confessed. The fortunate thing about the Marines' truncheons was that they could be used without leaving marks and permanent damage. It sped things up no end when things needed doing quickly. As it turned out, between moles in the Vulcan ships and electonic moles on Challenger, the whole thing had been completed by remote. The first man didn't know exactly where they were hidden on the ship but had pointed out one of his colleagues did. With that information now on a PADD, Rickman could give the details to Kirk to have them removed. They were only small listening devices which could if needed be used to control parts of ship, most likely the computer logs. However, they had never had the chance to use them. What the words the man had used meant Rickman had no idea of. He just hoped they meant more to Kirk. Subsector 6 relay 12 and all that... Time to send the information upstairs. Eventually a new message reached the MACO's. 'This is Shawn Adams, I have been promoted to Captain of Challenger. I will inform you of your orders shortly.' 'You're the captain' Sergeant Smith had pointed out to Rickman later 'so you have to do it' So Rickman stood on the bridge to deliver the MACO message. 'Well done on your promotion, Captain. Maybe there's more to the Starfleet scanner man than I first thought' <Captain 'Scanner Man' >

OCC: Sorry for not being able to post for awhile, I got busy finishing up my class before winter break.
Kirk had spent the last couple of hours hard at work with the Vulcan like computer system trying in vain to find out how they were able to destroy the Vulcan ship that the Challenger had rendezvoused with earlier.
“Kirk to Logan.”
“Logan here.”
“I want you to take a look at this piece of junk, I can’t seem to make heads or tails of all this stuff.” Kirk said sounding frustrated.
“You’re talking about the downloaded computer information?” Logan replied.
“Yes, the translator is missing a lot of words and I am not going to just assume their possible meaning.”
<Tag Ensign Logan>
Kirk closed the channel, looking back at the information that lay before him he cursed under his breath. Ship repairs had gone faster than Kirk had first thought due to the massive amount of spare parts given to them by the Columbia. It was at this moment Kirk wished he had more items to repair on the ship instead of looking at a incomplete computer database.

Rickman and Adams were facing each other on the bridge.
"Well done on your promotion, Captain. Maybe there's more to the Starfleet scanner man than I first thought."
Adams smiled; this "scanner man" had lived through the worst war in Earth's history, but Rickman wasn't to know that.
"Thank you, Mr Rickman." said Adams, and he and Rickman shook hands.
It was nice to have a bit of warmth between them after the unpleasantness that had greeted the last mission.
Adams went to sat down in his chair and remembered that he was still wearing his old uniform. Somehow it didn't seem right to start their mission without the Captain's uniform on.
"Mr Rickman, you have the bridge." said Adams, "I'm going to change."
He walked to the turbolift and entered it.

Benzin rose from the captains chair in a sarcastically, reluctant way, but held out his hand for the captain to shake it.
Benzin: My most humble congratulations...Captain.
The new captain reciprocated and they had a hearty handshake. Benzin was relieved by this, he had no desire for the captaincy, at least not at the time, and so he returned to the tactical station, where he belonged.
He instantly remembered that the defensive systems were still down.
Benzin: (Sighing) Verdammt... (Damn) Captain, I'd like to head down to the phase cannons and torpedo room, I'd like to take a look at the damage, first hand. The computer can only tell me so much. Unless you require me here, that is.
Benzin's FO and Tactical obligations sometimes conflicted with each other, but in this case he knew that without weapons, there may not be an XO, or a crew left to defend for that matter.

Jack was hard at work on the translation of the M'Tok language. He couldn't wait to share this information with Ensign Hoshi Sato of Enterprise. Jack knew that he was good with languages, but he was no where close to the skills of Hoshi. His work was hampered when a priority one message came in. Jack knowing that it would not be for his eyes just sent it into the Captain Ready room where Commander Benzin was residing.
It surprised Jack when he shortly came out and told Lt. Adams to enter the ready room. Jack didn't know what was happening, but then again it didn't concern him.
"Do not assume anything, the M'Tok language is like the Vulcan, but it is different," Jack responded," I'm sending you an updated version of the M'Tok interface."
"I'm receiving it right now," Kirk reported.
"Okay, good, I will be continuing working on updating the database," Jack said as he went back to work.
Jack understood that their chief was having a hard time with the language. A change in a syllable changed the entire meaning in the word. So he quickly went back into his work until he was then again stopped by a message, but this time it was from Lt. Adams on the comm.
"This is Shawn Adams; I have been promoted to Captain of Challenger. I will inform you of your orders shortly."
Jack was floored, had he just heard what he thought he had. Well of course he had heard it and as soon as he realized that it was true he got off of his chair and walked up to Captain Adams.
“Congratulations sir,” Jack said as he extended his hand to his new captain. Captain Adams took it and shook it. After all the pleasantries were over with, everyone went back to work. In a matter of seconds Captain Adams and Commander Benzin had left the bridge. Jack thought that the Captain had gone to change uniforms, since he still was in his Lt. one and Commander Benzin had decided to go work on the armory. So Jack being the last senior officer on the bridge took the command chair. Jack didn’t feel right there and so went back to his station to work on the M’Tok database.

He zipped up the uniform, then stepped in front of his mirror. He took it in, the yellow lines on the shoulders, the four pips and the patch, the Challenger patch, his ship now.
"Captain Adams," came Logan's voice through the comm, "we have a transmission from Starfleet for you."
"Put it through here." said Adams, still getting used to being called "Captain Adams".
"Aye sir." Logan replied.
Adams moved over to his computer and activated the transmission. Admiral Gardner's face appeared on the screen.
"Hello again, Captain, I see you've changed into your new uniform." said Gardner, smiling. "Well, your first assignment didn't quite go as planned, but we think you handled it well. It's time to begin your mission. As you know, you have pretty much a free exploration mission, although we'll contact you with specific assignments from time to time."
"I understand, Admiral." said Adams.
"Good luck, Gardner out." replied Gardner.
With that, Adams got up and made his way to the bridge.
When he arrived, someone shouted out, "Captain on the bridge!"
He looked around at his crew, Benzin and Kirk on one side of the bridge, Logan at communications, even Rickman had adopted a somewhat respectful stance. He smiled and said "At ease everyone."
"Starfleet thinks that it's about time we began our mission." Adams announced. The crew exchanged exited glances.
Adams walked over to his chair and sat down.
"Take your stations everyone." He said, "Helm, set a course for the Alpha 583 Sector and engage at Warp 5!"
"Aye sir!" said helm and Challenger sped towards her adventure.
