The first thing was the indigo/purple of the defused sunlight fighting it's way through the dense forest canopy high above them, but the most shocking thing was that their phaser's had apparently vanished. Torek immediately turned to exit, but all he could see were more of the forest.
"Arch." he said quietly, without success. He tapped his Comm badge and received only static.
"So much for that." Calli said, eyeing the forest with trepidation ...
The group moved forward, heading towards the thickly bunched trees towering above their heads. Torek pointed silently for them to separate, and the entered the woods. Calli inched forward, wary that someone could be a meter away from her and she wouldn't know it until it was too late. She looked left and right but could no longer see either Will or Carl who she knew couldn't be far off her position. She stopped, listening intently for the slightest sound that would give the others away ...
Suddenly, she heard a noise off to her left, almost a wince of pain coming through the underbrush, simultaneously Admiral Torek appeared on her right, Will came from behind her:
'You hear that ?' he mouthed silently, Calli nodded confirmation and pointed in the direction she thought the sound had emanated from. The two began to head that way until they reached an area less dense, and there, laying on the floor was Andae Blakus, blood oozing from a wound in his thigh, and a cowering Ferengi beside him. Will immediately dropped beside the stricken Blakus and began to field-dress the incision.
"This is, Norg, Ferengi criminal ... You've apprehended the others? There was a Nausicaan and a Breen ?" Andae said.
"Wedlerson grabbed the Nausicaan, but the Breen took off with Marionette." Jamison said, crouching beside the Chief Engineer, "There, that should do ya Commander ... Orders Sir ?"
"What beaming technology can allow transport through not one, but 'two' inhibitors, that is something i'd like to find out about, because it could be very useful, or bite us in the proverbial." Calli said, walking the small clearing looking at the ground intently. There was nothing ... Signs of a struggle, a small fragment of what could have been a buckle off the Ferengi's tunic, and then she found something. Picking up the device, she turned it around in her hand then went back to the others.
"Neural truncheon ... " she said, tossing the wand to Torek, "Favorite prisoner control weapon of the Breen. Marionette must have put up one hell of a struggle for her attacker to leave this behind, he, or they, were obviously in a hurry !"
"Hopefully Security will have informed Admiral Tetsutaru of our situation by now, so he will have locked-down the Station. Admiral Reynolds should have been told too, so hopefully he'll be looking for our kidnapper's too." Torek said, eyeing the Ferengi with something approaching murderous intent, "I don't like people, even bottom-feeder's like you Norg, trying to take members of my crew, so listen to me, I want information and I want a means to get off this holo-deck ..... NOW !"
The Ferengi cowered away from Torek as if physically struck. He looked around as if expecting help to arrive instantly, alas, he was disappointed.
Off to one side Will had been trying to use his Command Codes to access the Holo-deck controls, but even though the base computer would acknowledge him, and his clearance, it flatly refused to furnish the arch, or terminate the program currently running. Andae could see the Security Chief getting frustrated and went to help, but sixty seconds later he too was annoyed with the computer and was explaining in graphic detail what he may have to do to it once he got out.
"We need a physical access point." Torek said, grinning despite the situation, as he silently watched his two most Senior Staff getting ready to do serious damage to Star Fleet property, "So let's try to find one. Harry, you keep an eye on our friend here. If he attempts to run, persuade him otherwise, and don't be gentle about it !" he said, glaring at the Ferengi, who started to quote Federation regulations regarding prisoners, but a well-timed back-hand from Wedlerson coaxed him into silence.

"The Lion, Tigershark, and Scavenger will be moved towards the Nebula for the foreseeable future. Assailant needs the extra firepower and Admiral Lin might need reinforcements," Matt said as he pointed towards the fleet map in front of him. The officers spoke quietly making sure that any disagreements would be out of earshot of the admiral.
"If that is all, we'll have our next briefing at 0600 hours."
"Aye sir" was the immediate response from the officers assembled.
"Admiral Reynolds please report to OPS," the officer on duty asked over the comm. On a starbase like SB47, a call to the chief of operations was never a good thing, but Matt decided that he would try to be optimistic for a change.
“Report,” Matt said as he walked into ops.
“We have a report of a conflict on one of our holodecks,” the ops officer reported,” they have implemented some sort of technology and we are unable to counteract it.”
“Why am I just being told about this? Who is the officer in charge in the holodeck?” Matt asked.
“Well we do not have one down there. The crew of the Raven have just docked and they were using this particular holodeck. Admiral Torek’s crew….” the ops officer said before being cut off. Matt had read the reports as they had been coming in.
“Lock down the starbase, cancel all departures and place security officers at every exit,” Matt said as he transmitted his commands to the ships and captains near the starbase. “I’ll be at the holodeck, if we receive any information on the officer or culprits I want to be notified immediately.”
“Aye sir”
Matthew quickly made his exit and headed towards the holodeck. Not only was he peeved that a guest of his starbase had been kidnapped, but that these criminals acted in the open. This situation pressed the need for an overview of security at the starbase. Secondly however he was excited to see a former crewmate and friend, Carl Torek. The man was a superstar in Starfleet and everyone knew it.
“Are there any updates?” Matt asked of any of the officers present outside the holodeck. His arrival caused all murmuring to cease and no one wanted to answer his question. “I don’t bite y’all.”
“Nothing yet, we are trying to separate this holodeck on a separate system and reactivate the safety protocols,” the senior officer amongst them reported.
“Alright, I’m going in,” Matt said as he took one of the phasers from the security guards.
“Sir, that course is unwise, we have an active situation and we cannot guarantee your safety, we cannot beam you or anyone else out of the holodeck if necessary” the officer said.
“We’re all Starfleet officers, plus I don’t let this kind of events happen on my starbase,” Matt said as he once again gave his order and walked into the holodeck. It wasn’t long until he came across a group of officers.
“Admiral, what do you need?”

" .... Harry, you keep an eye on our friend here. If he attempts to run, persuade him otherwise, and don't bother to be gentle about it !" he said, frustration that one of his Officer's had been snatched from under his nose in such a fashion. He stood glaring into the thick wooded area ahead, idly wondering ho far in front of him the Holo-deck wall really was. 'Hell it could be a half a meter away and I would never know it' he thought. The Ferengi began threatening Torek, but this was cut short by a loud cracking sound as Wedlerson smacked the man into silence. Carl was trying to think about the technology the Breen had used to get off the Holo-deck despite the inhibitors, he was still thinking about it when a familiar voice broke the silence: "Admiral, what do you need ?" Carl turned, a wide grin forming as he came face to face with the man who at one time was his first Commanding Officer, he stepped forward, taking the offered hand in his and shaking it warmly. Rear Admiral Reynolds was Chief of Operations on the Star Base, so it was only right that he be informed of the situation, 'No doubt Sato Tetsutaro, Head of federation Security, would make an appearance next' Carl thought, wondering suddenly if Matt had a way 'off' the Holo-deck ! "An 'EXIT' would be nice." Carl said, and despite the seriousness of the situation, unable to suppress a way grin as Matt called for the Arch with the same lack of results, "I really hope you didn't tell anyone else to come in here Matt, otherwise it's going to get a tad crowded." Carl went on to inform Reynolds of the situation, and his Navigation Officer's abduction. "They're not getting off the 'Base Carl." Matt reassured him, "... and if they do, there's no way the ship will leave orbital status. I'll guarantee that." "He got off the holo-deck Matt ....." Carl said, shrugging, "Oh, don't bother with you're Comm badge, it's dead as the proverbial." "Well this brings back memories." Matt said, lowering himself onto the stump of a tree ... "Someone out there needs to realize, and 'QUICKLY' that they had better not send anyone else in !" "Matt, you may not have come across Callista Valen ....." "CALLI." she interupted. " ..... Calli ..... Valenti." Carl finished. "Calli ... Wow !" Matt said, shocked. As the last time he had seen Sato's adopted Daughter she was what, sixteen or seventeen, and now, "Intelligence." he said, eyeing the rank insignia and knowing full well it meant little and was essentially for the minions as a form of position. Matt thought wryly that she likely out-ranked him in regards to anything Intel' related. He stepped forward and hugged Calli, happy to see she had progressed. "OK ... 'Uncle' Matty." she said, fighting back the laughter, "Not in front of the staff." kissing him on the cheek before stepping back and putting on her most 'official' face. "Great ... Reunions r Us." Carl said, eyes rolling as he looked the wooded area Matt had entered from, "The exit 'MUST' be there, we just can't see it ... Option's anyone ?" .......... < tag : Matt / Marionette / All >* Getting a little exciting now, isn't it folks *

Marionette reactivated to find herself on a tilting table, encased in 8 slat-style bindings, within a very small and very brightly lit holding cell. The cell had plasmic laser bars in addition to a force-field frame enclosure. Given the sub-audible thrumming of the walls and floor, she concluded that she was on a ship - The Mercenaries ship, to be precise. A measured and slightly raspy-gravelly voice sounded from a slightly shaded corner of the room outside the cell. "Ah, good, you're awake." the voice belonged to a tall Reman man. He stepped forward to reveal a shocking mottled and veiny face, punctuated by cybernetic glowing blue eyes that had black sclera, which further emphasized his reman features. "Just so you know, Robot, these slats that hold you are made from various tritanium and duranium polymers. You might be able to escape them, with much effort, but you would likely also bend or break your bone-frames in the process.....So, in other words, Don't." he said, scowling deeply and pointedly showing her a curved, claw-looking disruptor. "Where am i ?" Marionette said, asking the relatively obvious. The Reman barkingly laughed, before again shifting to has deliberately measured, raspy-gravelly way of softly speaking. "I am Shadow, and you are aboard the Unsasnu, which if i understand our plans correctly, would be drifting away from starbase 47 under minimal power.... and cloak." he said, smiling with Fangs. The Unsasnu had been to the station, to drop off the trio of mercenaries and officially left atleast a day ago, but then had come back under cloak, and had been drifting invisibly in orbit since then, patiently waiting..... The breen (Sen Zott Fett) then entered the chamber, and said something. Sudoh smiled and clasped his hands together "Ah, yes, you are absolutely right, Fett. I shall go rectify that with her." and then left the room, leaving Marionette with Fett. Zott Fett, unlike Sudoh, was not the least bit talkative.... Not that you could understand him beyond the helmets electronicky -wah-wah woh whah- sounds. Fett and Marionette literally stared at eachother in complete silence..... "If we had communications, we could ask one of those outside to enter..." Andae murmured, staring into the silvery grass inches from his face, it waving in the undercurrents of the breeze sweeping through the forest. He was lying on his front, his leg wounds still being attended to by Jamison, who was coming back with his field medkit every five minutes.
In these intervals Andae could walk around, before the pain became too much again - deep wounds such as these couldn't be mended instantaneously, they needed prolonged exposure to the knitting/healing effect of medical equipment - and he would have to lower himself to the floor, once more in convalescence. He'd attempted to force an opening in the holodeck by overriding computer controls on the arch lockout, trying to find a workaround in the computer's logic protocols, exploiting a loophole that he knew didn't exist. The Breen had been good with his/her handiwork - or whoever had locked out the controls.
Jamison finished up his medical work again, the slashes in Blakus's thigh and below his knee having closed up. Dark blood had dried on his uniform, giving his black trousers a ruined mottled look. The skin hadn't healed completely; he'd need to be subjected to a longer and sustained period of tissue repair.
"What good would that do?" the CTSO asked, standing up and waiting for Blakus to turn over and twist to face him. "We and Admiral Reynolds have already fallen into this trap. We'd be making things worse."
Andae shook his head, "The guards outside could stand in the entrance, jam it open, and comm us to head towards their position; hence we'd find escape." Unfortunately, he thought, comms were down. They couldn't contact the outside in the first place.
"The arch might open anywhere. Even if they did try to open the door again we could be klicks away from the arch's position. It would be dumb luck if it opened anywhere near us; by the time it opened in our vicinity half the population of the Starbase could've attempted entry..."
Jamison's voice faded as Andae stumbled away, pain lancing through his legs, through the twilight-enriched forest. "What about photons...?" he muttered, limping over a fallen log that seemed to drip with violet ichor. Silver and gold streaked before his eyes, the simulation's sky illuminating particles descending along magnetic field lines. Something about the atmosphere of this holographic world caused it to retain exotic subatomic particles that interacted with EM radiation to produce curious spectral lines.
Thoughts of photonic reactions gave Blakus a new idea. Realisation dawned, "Virtual photons, in this virtual world," he whispered. But the two types weren't equivalent. He stared back along the path he'd come, the broken path passing through indigo glades back to the gathering of Raven officers, Admiral Reynolds, the Ferengi and the Nausicaan. They were pale figures, almost statuesque against the darkness. Virtual photons, he thought, not those of the holodeck, which were 'actual' photons projecting light to create false reconstructions. Virtual photons mediated the reaction between oppositely charged particles, allowing for electromagnetic forces.
He tore his commbadge from his uniform. While it was rendered defunct by the jamming in effect, it still retained its internal functionality. He peered into its inner electronics, saw Torek approaching out of the corner of his eye from another forest pathway. "Admiral. I may have found a way out of here... A way to find one of the walls.
"I can cause a power surge in the EM circuitry in this commbadge, exciting the virtual photons as the electromagnetic force is increased. The virtual photons will disrupt the photons projected by the holodeck and, if we're lucky, create a visible distortion in the holographic projection. We'll be able to see beyond the illusion. It won't last long - I'll have to move around quickly to find one of the walls."
Andae was effectively commentating on what he was doing. He wandered around, limping but moving quickly as he could as a disruption, a blurring of light, built up around the commbadge in his hand. He found one of the walls just as the effect seemed to be fading; the commbadge could only take such a surge of electrons for so long before it burnt out.
He gasped, dropping the scorching commbadge while simultaneously jamming his other hand into a visible maintenance port. The junction's panel gave way and he pulled at the circuitry beyond the true holodeck wall. The ruptured circuitry seared his hand. He screamed at the jolting pain and electric discharge and the whole simulation around them flickered and began to die, the door to the holodeck becoming visible for an instant...

" ..... surge in the EM circuitry in this Comm badge, exciting the virtual photons as the electromagnetic force is increased. The virtual photons will disrupt the photons projected by the holo-deck and, if we're lucky ....."
Calli had been listening to this and suddenly turned to face Carl:
"What about your prosthetic implant." she said suddenly, before turning to the other's, "Admiral Torek was fitted with a pros ...."
"Eye !" Will said, suddenly remembering.
"Yes, but it won't allow me to see into the frequency ranges that Andae is talking about. It may even be possible that any surge could adversely affect my sight." Carl said apologetically, "I'm afraid we need to go with his original suggestion." Everyone stepped back as Blakus began moving in a slow circle, trying to map out in his head a central location, but also accustoming his vision to the hues and palette, the 'color' of his surroundings, hoping he would see a marked change to signify what he was looking for. At least, that's what Carl understood of his explanation.
He suddenly jumped forward, seemingly ramming his hand into nothingness. There was a distinct smell of searing flesh as the Comm-badge and ruptured circuitry burned the skin.
"THERE !" Jamison suddenly shouted, running towards the arch almost sixty meters away, the others close behind. Calli ran to Blakus, grabbing his shoulders and pulling him away from the wall. Before he could complain she was half dragging, half carrying, the Commander towards the exit to the holo-deck. Ahead, the indigo/purple of the original program's coalescence was re-configuring. If they couldn't reach the exit before it vanished from sight they were in serious trouble !
"EX .. IT !!!" Will shouted as he sprinted.
"Please restate request." the computer asked casually.
"Show .... Exit." he replied, keeping his voice as stable as possible. This time the arch appeared, but seemed to be having difficulty stabilizing, normally, should anyone attempt to walk through the doors while this was happening, the safety protocol's would prevent any injury. But with the safeties off, it could result in someone ending up on 'both' sides of the doors. He had reached the doors and jumped through the small mirage of a gap. He landed heavily outside and bowled two Security Officer's over as he came to a stop. Leaping to his feet, he looked around frantically trying to find something to block the doors. There, almost twenty meter's along the corridor was a Maintenance Engineer, he was watching the proceedings with interest and stepped back, wide-eyed as Jamison snatched his tool kit from the floor and spun around.
"Commander ! ..." one of the Security Personnel shouted, causing Harry to look up as he ran, then he saw it .....
The doors were closing ! ..........

Wincing at the pain from his fingers and his thigh and leg, Blakus hobbled towards the distant arch. He grunted, following haggardly after Calli; he'd hoped the gate to the exit of this nightmarish indigo world would've materialised closer to their group. He'd come for an innocent game of hoverball - made safe by the holodeck's protocols - albeit ignoring the warning signs of the earlier run-in with the Ferengi and his accomplices - and had ended up with four wounded limbs.
They all just about made it, except for the Nausicaan. The doors, propped open by the security officers outside, were held open just long enough to permit the Raven officers and Admiral Reynold's escape. The Nausicaan had been bringing up the rear, stumbling after Wedlerson the one who'd initially pacified him, and had missed the exit.
They heard desperate jarring knockings from inside, accompanied by the harsh wailing typical of Nausicaans, before the arch must've vanished from the mercenary's view and the Nausicaan surrendered to the whim of the program. He'd have to wait inside, in the reintegrated surreally lit world of forests until they figured a way to deactive the program and reestablish the holodeck safeties.
In the meantime, Andae had to track the destination of the unorthodox transporter the Breen had used, if they had any hope of finding Marionette again. They were all working on it of course, but Blakus, and Commander Watson who was absent from proceedings at the moment, were the only ones who had the particular expertise and experience in unusual forms of matter transportation.
"The issue is... Was that actually a transporter?" Blakus turned around, swivelling on his haunches from the maintenance port outside the holodeck entrance, shocked to see the man who'd spoken standing above him.
"Lieutenant Bligh..." Blakus said rising painfully, embracing his old colleague. He winced at the contact, complaints from his limbs rising within him. "I would say 'what brings you to this neck of the woods?' but that gag's getting old."
"Jeez, what happened to you?" Bligh stepped back, looking Blakus up and down with concern. Blakus held up his bandaged hands, old-fashioned wads of cotton, that Jamison had hastily applied in the moments after they'd dived from the holodeck's murderous clutches. The pain from his left hand wasn't so bad: 2nd degree burns at worst, from the commbadge sparking with a surge of electrons that'd seared his hand of the top layer of flesh. The right was different; a full electric discharge from a power junction that'd been helping to sustain the holodeck's illusory space.
"I'll tell you about it later. But remind me not to invite you to any hoverball games in the near future." Blakus dropped back to his haunches to study the panel, quickly returning to important matters, "The holodeck system detected a trace of tachyonic particles in the instant before the 'transportation'. If we can extrapolate from their polarities the destination of the beam then there's a good chance we have our gynoid."
"Tachyonic... Of that class of particles then, but not tachyons themselves. How we can extrapolate destinations of supralight particles unless we're also at supralight velocity, i.e. in a warp bubble?" William Bligh asked.
Blakus regarded his friend, his concentration momentarily withdrawn from the cruciality of the situation. How long had Bligh been back here? Was Engineering Corps's attention really so fixed on Sector 47, and for what reason? "We can recreate an artificial one inside the computer which should fool it into thinking we're at lightspeed; from there it can derive the coordinates."
"I've heard rumours..." Bligh said. Andae, looking back at the junction again, winced, half out of pain from his wounds, half out of the desperation in his mind. "Your last assignment, Andae. You found Zielinski." His friend's tone was serious; this was something that'd tormented them both for the past two years.
"I... can't..." Blakus began, eyes squinted in concentration, fiddling with a panel on the maintenance junction. "... The tachyonic source is within a two kilometre radius of the station." He regarded his friend briefly as he rose in agony to his feet, and walked past him down the corridor, limping with some assistance to the closest medical bay after reporting his transportation tracking results to Torek and Reynolds.

Seeing the arch appear, Calli ran to Blakus, grabbing him by his uninjured arm she spun on her heels and half dragged the Engineer forward until he managed to get his footing and ran with her. They practically fell through the doors into the corridor and Call turned in time to see them close on the Nausicaan. "Good riddance !" she said, getting to her feet. "OK, we have people to find." Torek said, looking at who had made it out. "Carl ..." she said quietly, not wanting non-Raven crew to hear the familiarity, "I'm going to contact Sato and see if he has any information on our Ferengi, Jaglom, or Norg, whatever his name is. There's a possibility he could have been put up to this stunt. We all know how the Ferengi operate, but I'm not convinced one of them could dream up this kind of game, and hire the people necessary to pull it off. That transport tech' was way out of their league." Torek agreed and told her to report in thirty minutes, he was going to see how Andae was getting ..... ooooo Deck 8 :: Main Operations ...As she stepped off the turbo-lift Main Operations was busier than normal, unsurprising given several Star Fleet Officer's had been whisked away from under the proverbial noses of the Federation. She walked across the enormous floor space, stepping down onto the mid-level of the basin shaped Command Center. Captain Eunice Mayworth approached her:
"Can I help you Commander ?" she asked, watching numerous screens as she waited for a reply.
"Formal today Eunice." Calli said, grinning, "I'm here to see the Admiral."
"Take you're pick Calli." the Captain said, returning the smile." Calli nodded and crossed the large central area, climbing the the upper level before knocking on the large doors, which opened almost instantly by Captain Helena Richmond, Sato's Aide.
"It is good to see you Callista. You are here about the Android's unfortunate abduction I assume ?"
"Hello to you too." she replied, accepting the drink prepared by Helena.
~~~~~~~~
They spent almost thirty minutes talking, then Calli left, disappointed to say the least. They had practically zero information on 'who' could be behind the abduction. Sato seemed to think the 'ownership' issue was a ploy. At this point it couldn't be proved of course, but they were close to getting their hands on the Nausicaan, so they would get something out of him in short order, 'despite regulations' Tetsutaro had said darkly.
ooooo
As she rode the turbo-lift back to the others, her Comm badge chirped to life. Helena Richmond had been asked to pass on some information regarding the Ferengi Norg ... It was highly likely that he was a member of a rebel group which acquired all forms of technology, from prototype weapon's to access data decoders, to Star Ship computer data decryption technology. It was now imperative that they retrieved Commander Marionette before she could be delivered to the leader's of this group. While the Android would have deleted all her access codes, along with any information pertaining to Command Staff or Flag Officers, or Star Ship deployment. It was unsure if the group had any means of retrieving this information for selling-on or for their own profit ! ... The last instruction from the Head of Star Fleet Security sent a chill down her spine: 'Should it prove impossible to recover Lieutenant Commander Marionette, they were to make every effort to ensure she did not fall into the hands of the leaders of this group.' 'AT ALL COSTS !'
While the rest of the Raven senior staff had made haste to escape their holographic prison, Marionette was biding her time and formulating all possible escape plans. That was when Sudoh and a bajoran-cardassian came in, each with some equipment boxes. They put the boxes just outside of the cell, Sudoh deactivated the trio of force fields, and the plasma laser bars, and the bajor-dassian stepped in and introduced herself.
"Greetings, i am Rika Tiram. I will be your ....Interrogator, today. I would shake your hand, but given the .... Reputation, of your android abilities, mostly via the exploits of Captain Data, i am sure you will forgive me if i don't." she said, with a devious smile.
Tiram opened a box and took out an intricate borg-looking sort of desktop console, which flipped up to reveal a screen and keyboard. She set it on the fold-out wall-shelf next to Marionette, "Today is a very good day." and then began rambling as she pulled out various plugs and cords out of the same crate "You see, I am what your Federation would call, a computer hacker, to use an old earth phrase. I make my living circumventing security protocols, altering and attacking ships operating matrixes, deleting or intercepting very important communiques and system protocols, and things of that nature. Usually, im regularly employed by the Orion syndicate, and of course, unofficially for Cardassian central command.... much to their amusing disdain of the other half of my heritage. I once worked with the romulans, but, as sudoh here can confirm, they tend to be far too paranoid for their own good." The reman nod-bowed in confirmation of that little factoid.
The moment that Tiram said 'Computer Hacker', Marionette instantly knew that things were about to get very Very VERY Nasty. If she was human, Marionette would estimate that that would be the moment that she would start panicing.
Tiram then inserted a cord into her borg-puter, and walked over to Marionette with the other end of the cord, smiling with sadistic glee. Tiram leaned in close, almost fully ontop of Marionette, and whispered seductively "Today is a very good day for me, Marionette, because of all the ships ive negated, of all the networks i've reduced to tons upon tons of scrap, of all the space stations and outposts i've undermined, getting to work with you, is an opportunity that comes around every few millennia." and then stuck the other end of the cord, onto her forehead.
As suddenly as the weird pseudo-seducing had begun, it had ended, with Rika tiram twirling back to her computer, and turning it on with a very audible hum-buzz-whine, as the info-turbines spooled up "Now, shall we begin...."
Will was sitting in the main security office watching footage that covered their three suspects. He was trying to see if they came into contact with anyone else while they were on the base. So far, they had remained mostly together in their own little group and he saw no sign of a fourth individual.
"They gotta be working for someone." he muttered. "They aren't the type to do this kind of thing on their own. Or even associate with one another usually."
He was starting to think that their only clue was going to come from that transporter technology that they had used and that wasn't his field. All he could do was wait so he decided to head back to O'Tooles and Kate.
Blakus lay on the medbay biobed with anaemic overhead lights casting a suffused sulfour-white glow over him. There was something familiar about this position; the same lights, their sick pall, that reminded him of antiseptic, sliding around his body as he'd moved uncomfortably in the minutes preceding the explosion of the universe.
Q's game, his test, whatever one willed; the one that'd carried the Raven to another universe the occupants of which had been intent on lighting theirs up, slaking their thirst for technological mastery by constructing a device that could give infinite power, but the defect in which would've caused the simultaneous destruction of every other universe in this particular substrate of the multiverse.
He hated to be reminded of that now. His attention returned to the enigma of Marionette's whereabouts. He'd let Torek know that he believed he'd narrowed the search coordinates to a 2 km radius around the Starbase. Presumably a ship lay at that destination, one perhaps under cloak - but if it was a cloak it was one he'd never seen before.
The unfortunate by-product of cloaking devices was an output of tachyons around and behind the vessel as it moved, meaning they were detectable by the enemy. Even the newest advanced cloaking technology - that which allowed ships to pass through solid objects, fire when cloaked etc. - couldn't eliminate the tachyon output. This was a different case, however. Tachyonic particles... had these mercenaries found a way of eliminating the tachyon dependence by substituting it for a similar exotic particle that was much harder to detect?
He discharged himself from sickbay, ignoring the Medical Chief's protests and heading for station Ops. "You're trying to nip this one in the bud, sir?"
Blakus twisted briefly, offering a slight expression of distaste, "Harry Wedlerson. You're a hard man to shake off... You really are escorting me aren't you?"
Wedlerson looked mystified, "Why would you need to be escorted, sir? Despite your... retreat from ship affairs recently, it's not seen as anything difficult... These things happen to us all."
"Whatever," Blakus said, both of them now ascending in the turbolift to emerge into Starbase 47 Ops. The Chief of Operations was still absent - far, far below deck with Torek and co. He walked up to the most senior engineer that he could identify. "Mister, do you know anything about subsets of tachyon-based particles?" The officer blinked. Blakus waved a hand, Wedlerson behind him trying to intervene, apparently concerned for the Raven CEO's well-being, "Particularly those with the properties that allow for cloaking technology."
"A working knowledge, sir," the commander said, after he'd steadied himself after the sudden intrusion, "But I'm no expert... The missing android," he nodded, "I'm aware of the situation. Someone has abducted Starfleet property, or rather, an individual and a Federation citizen," he quickly corrected.
"Well we'll see about that. It's part of the whole mystery." Andae handed the engineer a padd, detailing his scans and attempted categorisation of the tachyonic particles he'd detected in the holodeck. "We detected a surge of tachyonics prior to the abduction. Do you think this class of particles could conceal the use of a transporter, as well as an object such as a ship?"
The man shrugged, absently. "I don't know, I'll have to look over your findings..."
"Try reconfiguring the station's tachyon detection grid to scan for this class of particles, see if we can find something?"
"Find what, sir?"
"Anything! The ship; Marionette, if she's floating in space; any sign that those particles have been used recently. We detected the abduction destination point as being within a 2 km radius of the station. It shouldn't take long to pinpoint it with this installation's sensor array..." Blakus, followed by Wedlerson marched away from Ops.
"You know I haven't got direct authority from my actual superiors to do this, sir," the engineer called across Ops.
"I'll clear it with your boss later. Yours and mine are old friends," Blakus said dismissively, and strode into the turbolift.
Half an hour later - surprisingly quick - he had his results. Blakus, Bligh and, annoyingly, Wedlerson were brooding in a rec area adjacent to one of the subsidiary Ops offices, drinks of ice water and synthehol accompanying them and their studies of their padds. The comm from Ops came through just as Blakus was starting to feel pain from his injuries again.
"Commander Blakus, sir. We've located the destination of the 'transporter'. You're not going to like it, sir. It's positioned itself at the Starbase's ventral tip, out of line of sight of station phaser arrays. A torpedo could be used but we could do more damage than intended, especially if they have no shields, being under cloak and all - "
"Yes, got it, Commander." Blakus stood up, "There'll be no firing on that vessel, if a vessel it is. Stand-by for further orders from Admirals Reynolds or Torek. Blakus out." He tapped his commbadge again, "Admiral Torek, we believe we've located Commander Marionette's beam-out coordinates. They're right at the ventral tip of the station, directly under the matrix of sensor nodes."
He and Matt Reynolds were heading back to the Operations Center discussing the situation, when Carl's comm badge chirped, he tapped it quickly:
=^= Admiral Torek .. Blakus .. We believe we've located Commander Marionette's beam-out coordinates .. They are right at the ventral tip of the station directly under the matrix of sensor nodes =^=
"Sneaky sods." Matt said begrudgingly admiring the audacity.
=^= Can we use the Raven Andae ? =^=
=^= Not a chance Sir .. She's still having the primary core replaced =^=
=^= Stand by .. I'll get back to you =^= Carl said, closing the comm and looking at Admiral Reynolds.
"Sir's ... I have the co-ordinates on the main screen." the Duty Officer informed them as they entered and made their way into the well. They both looked at the glaringly obvious nothingness that was the underside or lowest point of the Star Base. Three massive pylons hung over three hundred meters below the station along with almost a hundred various antennae and sensor array's. Somewhere, very close to those pylons was the ship and the people responsible for the abduction of one of his Officer's .....
"Is there any way we could duplicate the transporter co-ordinates and beam over there ?" Matt asked.
"Impossible Sir." the Duty Commander said quickly, "Even if we could be certain of getting through whatever they are using for shields, there's no guarantee the ship is still there. We know it hasn't passed through our inner sensor grid, but it could have maneuvered closer to the pylons or even up between them. You would be beaming into open space, Sir." the man finished.
"If we could find a way to make the think visible, could we lock onto it using tractor's ?" Carl asked.
"Outside my area Sir, sorry. Maybe Commander Blakus could be of more help there." Both men stared at the view of the pylons and the frustratingly empty space surrounding them, "There may be a way of narrowing down where they are Sirs, but it could be risky ...." Carl and Matt turned to face the younger man, who suddenly knew what being in the spotlight was like, "Erm, we could use a remote Worker Bee. Disable the proximity overrides and send it between the pylons. Without the protocol's it would simply collide with the cloaked ship unless deflected by the ship itself. I doubt even the smallest warp-capable ship could maneuver around the 'Bee quickly enough to avoid shield contact, or even direct contact with the hull of the vessel itself ?"
"Hold on !" Torek said, remembering something from a report he'd read, "Would we be able to modify something, maybe a Limpet, or Pulse Mine, remove the proximity fuses and replace the explosive element with a tracking array ... If we could get that attached to the ship while making the collision look like an accident, we could track the ship on sub-space !" he turned to Matt who was already talking:
"Lieutenant. Locate Commander Blakus. When you have him beam him directly to the Command Center."
"Got him Sir. But he's with two other Officer's from the Raven." the woman said, eyeing Reynolds for further instructions.
"Beam them all here ... Now." he said, grinning at Carl, who shook his head, a wry smile appearing because he knew full well how Andae didn't like to be surprised ..........
Andae materialised in Ops in a sitting position, the other two officers with him - Wedlerson and Bligh - similarly situated as they had been around the table in the rec area. Andae collapsed on to his back with a thud, his tumbler of synthehol jerking upwards and splashing his face and thorax. Bligh, who'd started standing up before the beam-out, stumbled, wavered in the air and fell to the deck, ice water flying from his glass that he'd tried to keep above him and soaking the back of an Ops officer working at his station.
"Carl!" Andae rose, patting his sodden uniform jacket and feeling the slightly sticky synthehol drying on his face. He wiped it clear, the faint aroma of substituted alcohol remaining with his senses, "What the hell was that about?" he choked, continuing to forgo rank.
"Apologies, Andae, no idea you'd been having a drink." Torek smirked at Reynolds while the embarrassed commander, faced with these two flag officers, hid in equal measure anger and subordination. "I thought you liked surprises?"
Andae thought about this; it was true, he did. "Yes, but not of this kind." He went to study the screen on the lower level of Ops. Torek and Reynolds and the subordinates related to him their plans.
"Well..." Blakus sighed, trying not to let himself slip too far into deep thought; the memory of the maddened rush through the holodeck and the still persistent pain in his legs hampered his ability to concentrate. "As for detection of the ship - if its using the same technology as used by the Breen that allowed him to escape the holodeck, then its cloak should emit a source of tachyonic particles. The sensor modifications we've made should be able to pick out its approximate position, within a margin of error of plus or minus 50 metres."
"Which isn't good enough," Reynolds said.
"Are we using the worker bee, or a pulse mine or both?" Andae focussed on a console, it displaying the complex geometry of the pylons. The great size of the Starbase wasn't reflected in the spacing of the sensor pylon apparatus - there wouldn't be much room to manoeuvre. "We can rig a pulse mine to automatically home in; its modified sensors will enable it to get a more certain lock on the mercenary's position as it closes the distance.
"Then, if the ship jumps to warp we'll of course be able to track it. If it doesn't however, we'll have a firm lock on its position amongst the pylons. With phasers not in line of sight we need to think of a way of lowering its shields and, potentially..." he glanced at the Admirals, "Beaming them all off."
The pulse mine was on its way, diving through the blackness, down the length of tritanium hull illuminated with jewelled fragments of light that cast the nearly invisible mine in slivering silver. It approached the pylon assembly, autopilot cautiously edging it forward, on minimal systems so as to avoid detection and of course with proximity alarms deactivated.
"Pulse mine in position at the edge of the pylon system, sir. Let's hope the kidnappers can't detect it." The mine was running as cold as possible; due to its physical size and also its heat source it would be hard to detect with conventional sensors, even at this close range.
"The mine's homing already..." Wedlerson reported, "Pitching upwards, towards the roof of the sensor assembly." Andae grimaced - that was where the nodes were most dense. Just how small was this mercenary vessel?
The pulse mine hesitated for abit, before slowly circling around the pylons, and then started drifting away from the station, following the trail of tachyonic particles. Its overall course then began to suggest that the ship was away from the station, more towards the planet and its moons. About an hour later, it had made its way quite a distance, and locked onto the source of the tachyonic emissions - which was on the other side of the 3rd moon of the planet that Starbase 47 also orbited. A console beeped, and Wendlerson, reading the results, spoke "Well, thats pretty clever. It seems that the ship was in amongst the sensor pylons, but had since drifted away, trying to make a quiet sneak-away. They're behind the 3rd moon of the planet, also running as cold as possible." Bligh smirked "Not cold enough to get by the likes of us for long." he said with a sly smile, looking at Torek and Reynolds. o-o-o-o-o Meanwhile, Rika Tiram had left the room to scarf down a quick lunch, but by the time she got back, Marionette had disappeared from her cell....Right then, an explosion happened, shoving the ship to port. "Shtako ! The Armory Bay !" Tiram rushed to the armory bay down the hall, which was thoroughly on fire, and if they didn't put it out quick, the whole ship would explode in fireworks! Sudoh and Fett were already working to douse the flames with foam sprayers. Marionette however, had crawled through the mercenary corvettes jeffries tubes to the bridge, and with a stolen disruptor, began blasting every console in sight. She then sprinted for the nearest airlock, closed and vented it, deactivated the external forcefield, and launched herself out of the merc ship. Having swiftly drifted a kilometer from the ship, Marionette tapped her comm-badge as she glided through space, sans exo-suit. As she orbited away from the moon, the starbase came into view, looking no bigger than a coin. She tap-tapped her comm-badge again, 86 percent sure that line of sight would greatly enhance the signal being received.
Once the Star Base Personnel knew the ship in question had drifted away from the Pylon and sensor arrays, they began to track the course. Seeing it had gone behind the moon they took the opportunity to send out a ship to intercept them ... The USS Renounce was set to depart on her next mission but had been called upon to help. On the Bridge, Commander Valenti watched the moon, hardly expecting to suddenly see a ship, but the last thing she had expected was what happened next ...
"Captain, I'm picking up a faint Comm signal." the communications Chief said, "Weak, I'm trying to locate it now."
Calli walked to the view-screen, as if being close was going to help her see any better. The Comms Officer was working hard to locate the signal and suddenly informed her Captain she had it and had sent the co-ordinates to the Navigation Officer.
"Helm ... One tenth impulse, move us towards that signal. Can we get a visual ?"
A second later, Calli almost laughed out loud, as there, slowly turning end over end in the gravity-less space ahead, was Marionette !
The android had seen the ship approaching on one of her rotations, alas, she had no means to stabilize her end over end roll, so the ship almost seemed to 'jump' closer and closer to her, until it was approximately two hundred meters away. The Intrepid Class vessel dwarfing the Android.
=^= USS Renounce .. Your alacrity in transporting me aboard .. Would be appreciated =^= she said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
=^= Stand by Commander =^=
Rolling her eyes in a very 'Human' expression of resignation, Marionette turned through yet another rotation, first the Moon came into view, then the distant Star Base, and then the Vessel hanging above her. She was about to ask about the delay when she vanished from sight, appearing in the main transporter room:
"You certainly don't do things by halves do you." Calli said, grinning as the Android eyed the people in front of her in silence, "We're going after the ship, apparently someone managed to damage practically every system on the Bridge. The thing is so dilapidated it has no back-up systems that could cope. They are falling into the moon's gravity and have asked for assistance. We're expected on the Bridge." Calli finished, heading out of the transporter room.
~~~~~
"Commander .... Bonus points on your unique method of escape." the Renounce's Captain said, before turning back to the matter in hand, "How long before they are dragged to the surface ?"
"Four minutes Captain." the Tactical Officer informed her, "They are venting oxygen and coolants. I estimate the ship will break up completely before hitting the surface."
"Helm, move us closer."
"We could do with a look at their cloak and transporter technology Captain."
"Sir, the Commander is demanding we take him and his crew off the ship without attempting to save the ship itself. He is threatening to make things 'difficult' for you if you do not comply."
"Well well, even at this point those Ferengi like to think they have the upper hand." the Captain said, shaking her head in amusement, "Ignore the Comm and monitor the ship. Stand-by to transport them off then lock a tractor beam onto the ship itself."
"Captain, if we're getting them off it needs to be now." the Tactical Officer said.
"OK, initiate transport and lock a tractor onto the ship. Once clear of the moon come about and head back to the Star Base. Let's not tell the Ferengi we managed to grab his ship." the Captain said, grinning, "The last thing I need is a vengeful Ferengi after me." she finished, getting out of the Command chair and motioning for Calli and Marionette to accompany her ..........

Matt quietly watched as their plan came to fruition. It was an ambitious and risky plan, but Matt trusted in the ability of his personal and the Raven's crew. His proximity to his friend and colleague, brought back many memories. He could easily remember the first day he had met Carl Torek and even then Matt knew that he would go far in Starfleet. Torek was now an admiral, so Matt had been proven right on all accounts .
"Carl if I didn't know any better, I would think that you liked getting into these types of situations," Matt chimed as the tactical display showed them what was taking place.
"Admiral, we have secured the Ferengi ship, they are being towed back to the Starbase," the ops officer reported.
"Keep the ship 50,000 kilometers away from the starbase, I want to make sure that our new friends didn't do anything to sabotage the vessel." Matt ordered as he moved towards the lift. Their new friend would need to be talked to and they both needed to know how they had been able to do it so easily.
"Carl, while I haven't checked yet, I'm sure that Calli has the same intelligence clearance as us," Matt began to say but immediately noticed that Carl shifted uncomfortably," okay, higher than us. Why has she been stationed on your ship Carl? You've been briefed on Zodiac, you know the plans that Command has for our fleet, having a high ranking intelligence officer so involved in one of our flagships has me concerned. I know Calli is Calli, she'll never betray us personally, but we both know that intelligence is not prone to share willingly."

"You certainly don't do things by halves do you." Calli said, grinning as the Android eyed the people in front of her in silence. After realizing that she was on a different ship, an intrepid class, Marionette spoke as they walked down the darker gray and black hallways, and into the similarly themed turbolift. "I strive to fully complete every task i accept or choose to perform." she said, as a matter of course. "Also, it was the only conclusive recourse to methodically sabotage every system i could see within 68.4 seconds, before continuing my escape. Unfortunately, their ship did not have a shuttlebay for me to perform a more efficient exit."The turbolift doors hissed open, and they all exited the turbolift to the Bridge. "Commander .... Bonus points on your unique method of escape." the Renounce's Captain said, before turning back to the matter in hand, "How long before they are dragged to the surface ?" Marionette turned to calli with a mutely-puzzled look, and quietly asked "Bonus points ?" Calli smiled and whispered back "i'll explain it later." as they followed the Renounce's captain to the transporter room. o-o-o-o-o On the transporter pad was a very rag-tag crew, to say the least; a breen (sen zott fett), a reman (sudoh), a bajoran-cardassian (Rika Tiram), a Ferengi, a Vulcan, and twin odd-eye Catians who were.... Rather lucky they had natural fur, at this point. Marionette, The Captain, and Calli entered the transporter room just as the Ferengi stepped forward, and very obviously switched on the oozing charm. "Greetings Captain, i am Norg, captain of the unfortunately now lost vessel The Wallstreet, and i would much appreciate -" Norg was interrupted by a security lieutenant slapping on a restraint cuff. The look of doomed panic on Norgs face was positively priceless; his eyes bugged out, his jaw fell open, and he started turning a nice shade of bright orange. "You are charged with, among other things, kidnapping of a federation officer, 4 counts of assault on a federation officer, Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to sell stolen technologies, afew Hundred counts of Confirmable Theft and Piracy, numerous counts of Receiving stolen goods, Vigilantism the Captain rattled off, reading from a PADD, and then looked Norg up and down, seeing his gaudy, eye-straining clownish clothes "....and if i thought it would stick, Poor Taste in Clothing. More charges are pending, no doubt."The captain turned to the security team and briskly spat "Take ALL of them to The Brig !" whom then stepped forward and cuffed the rest of the motley mercenary crew, leading them away to the brig. o-o-o-o-o Walking into the ship's brig, Marionette greeted Tiram, their positions now reversed; the bajor-dassian now a prisoner, and the positronic gynoid free again. "Greetings." she said in her measured, almost musical way. Tiram scoff-smirked "I suppose it gives you some form of satisfaction, that im in here now, doesn't it, robot.""I do not have emotions for you to manipulate." she said, almost tartly. Rika shrug-nodded, a coy smile on her face "Do tell me just one thing, if i may ask...." "what do you wish to know?" Marionette said, measurably cautious. "How did you escape all those bindings, AND, escape the cell, in under 8 minutes ?"Marionette stared at Tiram, saying nothing. "Well ?" Rika said, becoming exponentially more curious with each tick of the clock. As Marionette deliberately turned to walk away, Tiram flew into abit of a rage. "WELL ?!, Arent you gonna Answer Me ?! I ASKED YOU A QUESTION, YOU ROBOT B(leep)!!" she shrieked at the positronic woman who exited the brig. The door clanked closed with an audible power-sliding sound, and a distinct click of an auto-lock, cutting off the rest of Rika's cuss-filled ranting. <Tag; ALL>

"Carl if I didn't know any better, I would think that you liked getting into these types of situations."
He looked at Matt with one of those side-on looks that said he wasn't taking the bait, but couldn't help grinning. He had missed his long-time friend and former Commanding Officer, they had got on well from the time he first stepped onto the Raven-A and hed considered Admiral Reynolds a mentor during his time on the ship.
"Keep the ship 50,000 kilometres away from the Star Base, I want to make sure that our new friends didn't do anything to sabotage the vessel."
"Aye sir, I'll inform the Renounce." the Tactical Officer confirmed as Matt pulled Torek to one side:
"Carl .... While I haven't checked yet, I'm sure that Calli has the same intelligence clearance as us," Matt began to say but immediately noticed that Carl shifted uncomfortably, "Okay, higher than us. Why has she been assigned on your ship. You've been briefed on Zodiac, you know the plans Command has for our fleet. Having a high ranking intelligence officer so involved in one of our flagships has me concerned. I know Calli is Calli, she'll never betray us personally, but we both know that intelligence is not prone to share willingly."
"Well ... You know that Calli and I are almost Family, and that she was adopted as a child, by Sato Tetsutaro ....." Matt nodded, remaining silent as he allowed his friend to continue, "Calli suffered a near breakdown on one of her previous missions, and 'YES' I know it would have normally scuppered her chances in 'Intel' but Sato and other's did a lot to ensure her complete recovery, in fact, she has acquired an eidetic memory as a result of the chemical's used in her interrogation, somewhat of a bonus I think. She could have her pick of assignments, but I have the feeling, no ..."
"Sir, we have the ship in a stationary holding pattern." Reynolds nodded, keeping his eyes on Carl.
"I have no doubt about her Matt. Sato assigned her as a one-off Advisor to the Raven, he's decided to leave her where she is for the time being ... Frankly, I'm more than happy to have her. As for her actual clearance, I wouldn't like to test it's reach to be honest ... You know, she was tortured on her last assignment, and I do mean tortured, but she never uttered one syllable of information ... You could do worse than get her on your staff, but I seriously doubt you could find better." he finished, hoping he hadn't over-sold the young Woman.
"Wow. That's the longest I've ever heard you speak on a single subject Carl." Matt said, a wry smile forming, "You think you two may ge ...."
"Whoa ! ... She's practically my Sister. Besides, I have Bethan and Vanessa, at least until Scott manages to be able to take her home, and erm, Chloe."
"Chloe ?" Matt said, a hind of mischievousness in the question. But Carl said he'd tell all over a few drinks at O'Tooles once this kidnap issue was settled.
"Chloe's the nanny, right ?" Matt said innocently, unable to resist getting the last word in ..........

Almost ready to leave Starbase 47 Ops, Andae had picked up an alert signal from the direction of the Renounce and its towed mercenary craft. He briskly returned to the engineering station, combined with that of sensor operations (to which a whole console was dedicated), to ascertain the reason for the alarm.
Bligh alongside him was running his hands up and down the station, pressing buttons maniacally as he used the sensor grids to construct a graphical image of the two ships. The tractor beam connecting the two appeared as a sparkling diffusion of star-like points. Blakus accessed his own display, his focus almost immediately on the Renounce.
"Fluctuations in power levels," he confirmed to Bligh. "Trying to pinpoint... It looks like they have a problem in their primary computer core."
Bligh eyed his console; the cylindrical computer core at the heart of the Renounce flashed scarlet, "Someone's trying to shut it down."
"Admirals Torek, Reynolds! There's a problem aboard the Renounce. Her systems are destabilising and her tractor beam is losing power."
<Tag Torek, Reynolds>
15 minutes ago, USS Renounce...
A junior security officer entered the brig, dismissing the brig officer present with a wave of his hand. He came to stand before the occupied brig cells, regarding the prisoners in disgust. He meandered up and down the cells, the occupants equally disdainful of his presence, shooting venom into his eyes... He'd make them pay.
He halted before the Breen mercenary. "Sen Zott Fett, is it?" The Breen was motionless, expression unreadable beneath his helmet.
"Out of the cell!" The guard lowered the forcefield, turning sharply on his heel and dragging the Breen out, holding a phaser to his midriff.
The Breen seemed amused, wallowing in derision. He warbled something that sounded vaguely offensive and then hacked something that sounded like a laugh. The security guard growled and elbowed Fett in the gut, doubling him over and crashing him to the deck. "You know, I've always wanted to see what one of you lot look like under those helms... Now I'm going to find out!" He bent over the Breen, grasping at the helmet-neck joint of the Breen's suit.
The Breen's electronic warbling became a shriek as he struggled on the floor, but he seemed untroubled by the Renounce security officer's attempts to unlock his helmet, having some secret knowledge that the mechanism was impervious to physical tampering. Sen Zott, seeing the watchful eyes of his comrades who'd come up to the boundaries of their cells' forcefields, summoned reserves of strength and butted the security guard across the bridge of the nose. Blood gushed from the cut in the man's face and he held his face at the mind-numbing pain. The Breen crossed his legs over and used the opportunity of the man's weakness to rotate himself so he was on top of the human. He snapped the man's neck with minimal effort.
Freeing his comrades, the Breen led the way from the brig, the Bajoran-Cardassian directing the way to the primary computer core...
20 minutes later, Starbase 47
"Sir, the Renounce's systems are shutting down. 98% of tasks aboard her are automated, courtesy of the computer core. They have no attitude control, life support systems regulation..."
"Yes, yes, what about the mercenary vessel?" one of the Admirals urged.
Blakus studied the display. "The tractor beam is holding but I can't say for how much longer. The Renounce is maintaining orbit of the Starbase. Commanders Valenti and Marionette are aboard that ship, sir." Although of course Carl didn't need to be told that. "Their internal sensors will be malfunctioning; they might not know what's going on. We need to get a message to the Renounce before their comm array fails."

"Sir .. The Renounce's systems are shutting down. ninety eight percent of tasks aboard her are automated, courtesy of the computer core. They have no attitude control, life support systems regulation ..."
Carl looked at Andae, given the people currently in the Command Center, he considered Blakus the 'expert' on ships' functions. The Engineer was already working on the problem, moving from one console to another then back as he ran through every and all options. He informed Carl and Matt that the Renounce was going to find herself in serious trouble, and quickly.
"Can we get a lock on both vessels from here ?" Reynolds asked, receiving a negative from his Duty Tactical Manager. Carl suddenly had a thought, he smacked his Comm badge and spoke:
=^= Torek to Commander Jamison =^=
=^= Jamison =^=
=^= Will .. I have a job for you ...... =^=
Ten minutes later Will arrived in the Command Center. He was accompanied by six Marines ... Carl walked to his Operations Officer and spoke quickly. There wasn't time to work out the kinks, or finesse the plan, because hundreds of lives may depend on what happens in the next thirty minutes ... The Marines had been given images of the people they needed to secure, and who they needed to ensure were safe. If need be they would pile everyone into escape pods and throw them into space !
Five minutes later:
Commander Jamison materialized on Deck Three, the two marines accompanying him arcing their weapons left and right before confirming they were secure and undetected. The remaining three Marines beamed into Deck Ten ..........

Running calculations through his mind as fast as it would allow, the muddying effects of the synthehol not fading as fast as he would've liked, Blakus wandered about S47 Ops. He juggled several formulae pertaining to power failure of key systems of the USS Renounce. Loss of the computer core in a starship was like loss of the hypothalamus in the human brain: regulation of temperature, life support in general and a dozen associated systems were all analogous to the operations of that critical organ.
Regardless of whichever system went first - life support, propulsion, defence systems, artificial gravity - they had to get a message to the Renounce expediently, before its communications system became useless. The Renounce's crew may well know the situation, but if nothing else this would clarify it for them.
Blakus walked down to the communications console. "Their comm array's still active?" he asked, barely glancing at the officer manning the station.
"Aye, sir. But we've lost its transponder signal."
That made Andae pause. If, in the worst case scenario, the Renounce disappeared, it would be exceedingly difficult to find again unless they were able to trace its warp trail. All the more important then that they arrested this disaster now. "Do it," Blakus nodded to the comms officer, satisfied that the Renounce would be able to detect their communique.
=/\=USS Renounce, this is Starbase 47. We have reason to believe your prisoners have found a way to free themselves and are attempting shut down of your computer core. We estimate ten minutes until complete loss of functionality. Only 2% of your vessel is manually operated as you know; internal sensors are doubtless offline. The assailants will be spreading from decks 10-12 from the site of the primary computer core.=/\=
A scrambled message came back, =/\=We are... aware. ... - casualties. Seven wounded. T... at weapons locke - =/\=
Andae took over the comm, =/\=A marine team led by Commander Jamison has beamed into decks 3 and 10 to apprehend. Commander Marionette must be protected at all costs; she's the target, we believe. These mercenaries are well-trained and versatile. Despite the conditions do your utmost to fend them off 'til Jamison's forces can intervene.=/\=
"Andae!" Blakus spun at the voice, seeing Bligh gesticulating at him from across the room. "The Renounce's tractor beam is failing... 10% power..." Andae closed his eyes; it was obvious what was next: "Tractor beam's gone!"
"Nothing to stop them beaming out now. But they won't leave without their prize, unless they're left with no other choice." He turned to Reynolds, "Are there any vessels available to potentially capture the mercenary craft, sir?"

USS Renounce ...
Sat in the Recreation Lounge, Calli watched the stars glide by. The ship, towing the former kidnapper's vessel, was making way back to Star Base Forty Seven, where the prisoner's would be handed over to Federation Security, and eventually taken to Earth for trial. She suddenly had the feeling someone was watching her and looked around:
"Join you ?"
"Evan, WOW !" Calli said, jumping to her feet and hugging the man fondly, "I haven't seen you in years, I didn't know you were assigned to the Renounce, and Lieutenant Commander to boot !"
The two sat down, allowing the Steward to refresh their drinks as they chatted. They were recounting their time at the Academy when the lights dimmed for a second. Calli was about to ask if this happened often when the Comm burst to life:
=^= ATTENTION .. ALL SENIOR STAFF TO THE BRIDGE .. IMMEDIATELY ! =^=
Evan jumped up, heading for the door, Calli close behind. both almost ran into the plexi-glass partition as the doors failed to open on their approach. He pulled the doors apart and ran for the nearest turbo-lift access to the Bridge. One Officer informed them there was no power for the 'lifts and they pulled a cover off the closest Jeffries Tube access and climbed in.
"Remind me not to go out on a date with you." Calli said, climbing rapidly upwards .....
Bridge ...
=^= .... rine team led by Commander Jamison has beamed into decks three and ten to apprehend .. Commander Mar....tte must be protected at all costs .... target we believe .. These Mercenaries are well-trained and versatile .. Despite the condit ........ fend them off until Jamison's forces can intervene =^=
Calli listened to the garbled message from Andae Blakus, realizing they were in trouble. She walked towards the command Area, about to ask if there was anything she could do to help when she lost her footing and fell forward, but didn't hit the deck plating as the artificial gravity gave out and she simply floated towards the view-screen. thankfully, someone grabbed one of her feet and she took hold of the Opps Station to steady herself ..........

With just a brief look of reluctance from one of the Marines, Will took the lead of their small force and headed toward primary computer core. The other team that had beamed over was looking for Commander Marionette on deck 10 since that was her last known location. He hoped that they found her in time before the mercenaries tried to kidnap her again. As they rounded a corner to the computer core, a phaser beam shot out just missing the marine directly behind Will.
"COVER!" he shouted as he simultaneously slapped at his comm badge. Not hearing the familiar chirp told Will that comms were down. "Damn." he said as he looked across the corridor at the Marines. "No backup boys. It's just us." he added as they returned fire at the former prisoners.
"There only seems to be two of them." said the corporal. "It could have been worse." he said just as the artificial gravity went out. He gave an apologetic shrug as he caught the "I'm gonna beat you" look from Jamison.
The lack of gravity didn't seem to deter their foes from firing at them. It just made their shots come from a higher position. Since the team defending the entrance to the computer core figured Will and his team were floating just like them, they were shooting straight out from their positions. Will took this knowledge to try and formulate a plan. There had to be a way to get one of his men or himself lower or behind the other shooters.

"I'm transferring a percentage of our back-up power to restore the artificial gravity on the Bridge ... I can't afford to allocate any to the rest of the ship until we get the warp core back on-line !" the Renounce's Captain was saying, hovering on-handed over the Engineering Station, "Brace yourselves ... Stand-by ..."
The lighting on the Bridge dimmed for a second before resuming it's nominal brightness. Calli had already orientated her feet downwards toward the deck. She bent her knees to absorb the impact as she fell to the floor. Some hadn't managed to do so and landed heavily. One of the Security Personnel had fallen on the Helm Station and fractured a couple of his ribs in the impact. She ran to the Tactical Station as the Tactical Officer was dragging herself to her feet. Calli tried to scan the ship to locate Marionette or the two teams the Star Base had managed to beam aboard.
"Spatial orientation is down, Inertial Dampers must be off-line. We're rolling to Port." the Captain said, looking at the view-screen.
"We can cope with that Sir. But we need to control the attack and quickly." the Tactical Officer said, taking her position as Calli stepped aside, "Comms are down throughout the ship, so we're going to have to do this the old-fashioned way."
"OK ..." the Captain said, quickly making a decision, "Helen, I know you know your job, but I would like you to co-operate with Commander Valenti and Commander Jamison from the Raven, they certainly have more 'experience' with this kind of issue. Set up some sort of relay, we'll pass orders by word-of-mouth if need be, until we can get the Comms up ... Commander, do you have any suggestions before these people wreck my ship completely ?" she finished, everyone looking in Calli's direction.
"Jamison may need help. We need to get Security to his location, and to cover Commander Marionette." she said instantly, "I'd suggest we try to ensure the prisoner's have no means of returning to their vessel, or they will flee."
"CAPTAIN !" the Tactical Officer said suddenly, pointing at the view-screen. The rebel ship had seemingly powered-up and was moving closer to the Renounce.
"Are they already over there ?" the Captain asked quickly.
"I can't see how Sir. Maybe one of them has remote access to their ship, It's impossible to say, they may be able to beam off the Renounce using their own transporter pad. I'm trying to establish power to the tractor beam now ..... Captain, I'm getting sporadic information from internal sensors. Weapon's fire on Decks Three and Ten !"
"It's safe to say they are still here then." the Captain replied, eyeing the prisoners' ship warily.
"We need to fire the thrusters manually." Calli suddenly blurted, an idea forming, "Captain, that ship is closing on a pre-determined signal, and due to her proximity to us can't use anything but thrusters. So we delay the approach ... Fire our thrusters manually and try to keep the distance constant, if nothing else it will delay the prisoners' escape." The Captain looked at the Tactical Officer:
"Jeffries tubes. Take one of the Security Personnel with you. It's going to be hard but you need to somehow keep us away from that ship out there until we can contain the situation. Keep out of sight."
"Aye Captain." the woman said, pointing at one of the Security Team to follow her.
"Captain. I need to get down there and help out." Calli said, not waiting for permission as she followed the two Renounce Officers ..........

=^= ATTENTION .... ALL SENIOR STAFF TO THE BRIDGE .... IMMEDIATELY ! =^=
Marionette paused to make several deductions; 1-the prisoners had likely escaped. 2-they would likely be stalking the halls, under the presumption that she would do what most other starfleet officers would do. 3-they would be unwilling to leave without their prize, unless forced to, either in death or overwhelming defeat. 4-combat would ensue.
When the turbolift failed to open so that she could head to the bridge, Marionette began escape and evasion procedures, as if the ship had been captured by an enemy crew. This meant 'disappearing', and acquiring weapons with which to fight back, among other things. She opened a Jeffries tube hatch, and had grabbed hold of the rim when the artificial gravity went out.
Switching her methods of travel and movement, Marionette closed the jeffries hatch behind her, and effortlessly flew down the jefferies tubes far faster than she could have crawled them. In 6 minutes and 47 seconds, she had glided through the various junctions to deck 6, section C - the weapons lockers of the Armory.
Halfway there, (at deck 8), artificial gravity was restored, and Marionette hit the deck with a clank-thump. One of her face panels cracked, giving her a jaggedy sort of not-bruise across the left side of her face. Switching back to walking rather than gliding, she picked herself up off the floor, and crawled and climbed the rest of the way. Opening the jeffries tube hatch just outside the main armory, She was cautious as a protocol.
Seeing that nobody was around, she knocked on the still stuck doors. "Whos there ?" came a muffled reply from the other side of the doors. "I am lieutenant-commander Marionette, of the USS Raven-B."
The doors were pried open, revealing that the 6 armory officers had been ready and willing to fire on anyone forcibly entering their armory. Seeing that it was indeed Marionette, the vulcan senior armory officer spoke. "I presume you are enacting escape and evasion protocols ?" "Yes i am on my way to the bridge, as it was the last order received." "Most Logical....Given that it is you whom is being hunted, You will need this, commander." and handed her a phaser. "You may have it returned to me, when this situation is over."
Exiting the armory and going back into the jefferies tubes, she continued to make her round-about way to the bridge.
