Mission 005: Hesiod's Exception
A hastily assembled squadron led by the USS Enzio is being rallied to answer a distress call from a Research Facility near to the core worlds of the Federation. Recently promoted Rear Admiral Gheskori has been informed that if suspicions and deep space surveillance are correct, there could be a very real threat.
On silent running to minimise contact with others in the Federation - for the nature of the suspected threat means the number of those who can be trusted is small - the squadron is making quick time for the Domusara system, source of the distress call and just 15 lightyears from Earth, unsure what they'll find...

The Enzio was ready to depart. All crew had been recalled from the Starbase to the ship. Ghes watched from his quarters' extensive bank of portals that looked out on the glittering bay interior - a sight that would soon be replaced by the glittering stars and the empty enigma of the universe behind it - towards the docking port the Enzio was still moored to. He'd left Matthew in charge of the bridge to conduct departure operations.
Not long after he'd thought of the Admirals who'd entrusted him with this mission - their individual reasons, the expressions of discomfort and unsurety regarding the seriousness of the situation at Domusara, the hazy politicking - he felt the distant clunk of the umbilical detaching itself from its mooring; the Enzio was floating free in spacedock.
Gentle propulsion followed, thruster power only without the spacetime drive-coils hooked in that would've given the Enzio the capability to accelerate up to appreciable factors of the speed of light. A wise idea in terms of protocol and especially, because they were inside a heavily-populated Starbase.
=/\=Admiral, sir. This is the bridge. The SS Vingazi and USS Eagle are adjusting heading to match our velocity.=/\=
Ghes acknowledged the comm. He sighed, thinking of his deceased wife Jalena. Perpetually his thoughts returned to her; her last dying breaths that he hadn't even be there to witness. His cousin had fulfilled that role. Starfleet, its mission of universal mutual respect and peace and understanding overrode any personal concerns, morals, he might've decide he'd like to have. Perhaps it'd been a mistake from the start. He should've been at his first wife's side as she'd withered away in that medical unit - that with its resources was capable of curing so many ailments, in the long years Denobula had dedicated to genetic and biological pathogen research - rendered near comatose by an impeccably rare illness that affected both body in mind, causing afflictions in one's ability to stand or to see, or to relate or to love.
He collapsed on the couch, allowing Tchaikovsky to filter through his senses again. The quiet tinkling of the middle section of the symphony raced through his mind, its quicker frenetic pace evoking something within him. Perhaps he'd finally grasped something of what this human composer had had in mind, felt some affinity with the man's emotions as he'd stroked the notes to the page.
Now that the merchant cargo and weapons arrier Vingazi, and the Sabre class starship Eagle were joining them in their heading, it was time Ghes explained to his staff what this was all about, at least to the extent he was able to given the knowledge he had available.
First there was the issue of the USS Sparta. Commodore Telava had yet to make contact; upon her doing so and them agreeing rendezvous this hastily assembled task force would be complete.
The whole operation could be a false alarm; a research station panicking and hitting the Defcon 1 switch at the first sign of potential trouble; or, this could be a risk to the fabric of the Federation. It simply couldn't be known. They were to run silent, no external communications except with command, until they ascertained what was going on around the Domusara system.
=/\=Senior staff, this is Gheskori. Staff briefing in fifteen minutes. The commanders of the Eagle and Vingazi will be present also so best behaviour please.=/\=

Gheskori was stood in the transporter room, in front of the transporter chief as two pearlescent figures were shot across empty vacuum and reconstituted on the Enzio's pad. Ghes greeted them once they'd fully materialised, "Commander Saklat, and Captain Cryer," he smiled widely, the edges of his mouth spreading in a surreal fashion that often caught members of other species off guard.
"Admiral," Saklat permitted a smile, "Enjoying your new status?" Ghes and the vulcan captain of the Sabre class Eagle were well acquainted.
"Unexpected, but joyful, yes," he indicated the doors, "Please this way." The Starfleet commander and civilian skipper of the SS Vingazi followed Ghes in silence. "I'd offer you both a tour of the ship, but we have important matters to discuss. I'm meeting with my senior staff in ten minutes to discuss our coming assignment. All of them besides my first officer are unaware of the actual threat that may, or may not, be unfolding around Domusara."
The chrome-overalled civilian captain of the Vingazi spoke from the rear of the trio as they walked the corridor, "Are we talking about Domusara the science station, or Domusara the system, Admiral? You know it was never designated as the name for that planetary system."
Ghes in his limited but impactful experience of Captain Cryer, couldn't mistake the civilian CO's dryness. "Part of the mystery, Captain," he offered. "Whatever is happening in and around the system applies in some way to Domusara Facility itself. Therefore I think we can safely dub the system, Domusara."
They entered the turbolift, making their way through the Enzio's refitted Prometheus decks to the bridge and the conference room. There a number of the staff were already waiting. Ghes coughed and took his seat at the head of the table - his XO's seat empty for the moment. The other two captains got the idea and took chairs at the far end of the table. Their vessels were minor support ships after all.
* * *
"Ok, we'll begin." Ghes stated once all the officers had assembled, standing before the display panel behind his chair. It displayed a wide range of space, the Domusara system at its centre. "Disturbances in subspace have been detected in localised regions around our target system, and in a trail that seems to come from the Beta Quadrant, in these areas," he commented, gesturing pointedly at the map.
"Once we rendezvous with Commodore Telava's Sparta, wherever she is, we'll begin investigating the system. The Enzio will be responsible for investigating the Domusara Research Facility itself - which is circling the super-earth in close orbit of the star. The distress call was detected a week ago, thus we don't know what may have transpired since then. Galwyn, please liaise with Ensign Rogers in your scans of the facility. We may receive an instant response from the Federation scientists there but we need to be prepared for the worst. If something's happened to them I'd like to know the reason for it. Dr Saryn, be prepared to take possible casualties."
<Tag Galwyn, Saryn>
"Ensign Rogers, in the event that Domusara Facility fails to make contact with us I want you to collaborate with the SS Vingazi's armoury officer and prepare an away mission to the station." Ghes nodded to his new CTSO and Captain Cryer of the Vingazi. "Commander Matthew, in this event I want you to lead that away mission; you'll have Ensign Rogers and Captain Cryer's armoury officer under your command."
<Tag Rogers, Matthew>
"The USS Sparta under Commodore Telava will explore the subspace disturbances surrounding the system, discerning their nature and the extent of their threat." Ghes settled back into his chair, looking at each of the assembled staff. "I should warn you that no external communications to other Starfleet ships, or Federation installations - outside of our designated mission - are to be permitted. We don't who to trust right now..." He was aware how cryptic and mysterious a caste that placed on their mission, "Now, any queries?"

OOC: Note we haven't actually reached the Domusara system yet. We still have to meet the USS Sparta, coming soon.

SCENE: USS ENZIO, Cmdr Matthew Quarters--
“James frantically fumbled in the darkness of his bedroom in a vain attempt to silence the alarm clock. Finally, after much effort, he managed to do so. Muscles that he didn't even know he had ached terribly after that Combat HoloDeck Mission on the Star Base yesterday with His old Academy friend Commander Mike Jarred. “James silently noted the fact that he was somewhat out of shape Computer Schedule me for extra gym time this month. With a grumble, he scooted off of the bed and came to his feet. He grabbed the bathrobe on the dresser and put it on before stumbling out into the living quarters.
"Computer," he spoke as he made his way to the replicator. "Coffee, triple strong and no Sugar," he ordered. It had materialized by the time he made it to the replicator. “He grasped the hot Cup and brought it up to his face. After taking in the aroma he took a small sip. The feel of the hot liquid traveling down his throat felt like heaven. The feel of the caffeine taking effect was even more pleasing. He then made the short trip over to his desk and sat down.
“The computer terminal was still active with the letter he had been writing the night before. He took the time to re-read it. Unfortunately he had been somewhat tipsy the night before and had to make some editorial corrections.
“James l made a couple of final corrections to the letter before signing it. "Computer," he said. "Please transmit the letter." The cold chirp of the computer was the only sound made as it did so. The chirp itself was rather loud. “Either the volume controls had been tinkered with or James was more hangover than he realized. Just how much of that Aldebaran whiskey did he drink last night? It didn't matter really. He needed it and now he would have to pay the consequences. Now that the letter was out of the way it was time to get dressed and ready for duty.
“James crisscrossed his quarters once again and meandered towards the bathroom. He began by brushing his teeth. Once finished, he repeated the process to rid his mouth of the lingering alcohol taste. “Then it was time for a shower. Although he had nearly turned himself into a prune the night before with the multiple showers and a bath, he still wanted to freshen up. He rested himself against the sides of the sonic shower as it did its task. “When the cycle was complete, James slowly stepped out of the Shower and grabbed his coffee cup. With one large gulp he finished it off. “He wandered back into the bedroom and put on a fresh uniform. Before he exited the bedroom he studied his reflection in the mirror. He even turned from one side to the other making sure that he looked sharp.
"Now that's the guy I recognize," he said to himself. He slowly caressed his now-Clean Shaven face . "Computer," he said as he made his way through the Quarters. "Another cup of coffee and an Apple tart." Again, the items materialized on the replicator pad by the time he got there. After grabbing the items he went back to his desk. He took a sip of the coffee and a bite of the tart.
"Computer What the ETA for Meeting up with the USS Sparta,” before actually swallowing the bite of sweet treats. “The Ship PA System Commander Matthew your needed on the Bridge James tap His comm... badge Matthew on my way bridge.

Prior to briefing
Saryn sat across from his son, leaning forward by resting his elbows on his knees. "Are you certain you are well enough to resume limited duties?" he asked earnestly, studying the younger image of himself. "You are unable to walk properly yet, and with properly I mean unassisted." He gestured towards the cane that rested beside the younger man's chair. "Nor can you stand for longer periods in time without hurting yourself."
"I am certain," Savin replied, "Father, I am restless. I cannot sit idly when there is work to be done. What am I to do with my time, stare at the wall? It is driving me mad father, please allow me to work partially in sickbay. I promise I will not overtax myself, I know my limits."
Saryn sighed, shaking his head. "I will speak to the captain about this, but I am not in agreement Savin. And I think...Miss Cet will be very cross with me, if she learns that I allow you to become hurt in your desire to not go mad with boredom. There are other avenues you can pursue, you could study, or engage in mild physical activity." He permitted a small smile. "You could take her out on a date...get to know her better."
Savin's features turned a brighter shade of green at the mention of Tiana and he looked away. "I have plans," he admitted, "and I have studies, but I also need practice."
"Not until I have spoken with the captian," Saryn persisted stoically, generally unable to refuse his firstborn in terms of studies and medical activity. "I will leave you here to your studies, I have to attend a briefing."
Briefing, present
Wearing the teal medical uniform, without any rank insignia, Saryn walked into the briefing room and nodded politely at each of the commanding officers gathered. He took his seat and listened to introductions and the first of the briefing.
"What type of casualties are we to prepare for captain," he asked quietly, "and in what scale?"

Tiana was back in her quarters getting ready to go to bed when she noticed her message light was on. She played the message, not really looking at the screen. “Hi Ana,” Tiana froze there was only one living person who called her Ana and he hadn’t properly talked to her in years. “I’m sorry. I was an idiot. I didn’t understand how Mak’s death had affected you, I couldn’t see outside my own grief.”Tiana stared at the screen, her brother Havan looked back at her. Once more tears started to form in her eyes as he continued to speak. “Mum and Dad have told me some of the things you’ve done with Starfleet and I’m so proud of you. You have the career you love. I know it’s dangerous out there among the stars and I realised not speaking to you was silly. Well, actually I was made to realise it. I’m engaged Ana. Her name’s Lucilla Vergain she’s a diplomat. A Betazoid diplomat.” Havan broke off speaking to laugh.
“Which, of course, is rather ironic given what I said to Mum and Dad about you dating a human. For the record, I am sorry he left you and I should have been a shoulder for my little sister to cry on. After I said I was going to apologise Mum said that there’s someone new you think is special and that there is some sort of temporal effect involved. I’m so happy for you.” He paused again to wipe his eyes and glanced off screen. “I guess I should make jokes about older men, or maybe not… Any way, Luci would like to meet you and I’d like to apologise in person.”
A dark haired woman walked into frame. “Greetings Tiana, I’m Luci.” She didn’t push the introduction any further but let Havan continue to speak. “I’d love to see you little sis, love you always, Havan.”He reached forward to close the connect and Tiana started to cry. This was the last thing she had expected today. She was too tired to rely properly to Havan now, she needed sleep. She had promised Savin after all. ************************************************************** Of course as luck and Starfleet woyuld have it Tiana had only been up twenty minutes when she received word that the Enzio had caught a new mission. That of course meant personal calls slipped a long way down her to do list. She sighed and reached for a uniform. Things had to happen quickly between now and when the Enzio shipped out. Maybe she's be able to make that call on the way to where ever it was they were going. ************************************************************** Tiana had checked that all her personnel had returned aboard and all the new supplies and equipment had been properly stowed. She had read what little information was available about the mission and had muttered at length about the silent running. SHe wouldn't be sending that comm any time soon... It did not seem all that long before she heard the Admiral's comm. =/\=Senior staff, this is Gheskori. Staff briefing in fifteen minutes. The commanders of the Eagle and Vingazi will be present also so best behaviour please.=/\=That gave Tiana time to tidy herself up, have another coffee and gather her PADD before reporting to the briefing. She made it with a minute or so to spare and settled in one of the empty seats at the table.
Dr Saryn, be prepared to take possible casualties."After Saryn had spoken Tiana looked up at the Admiral. "Not so much a question as a comment, sir, I will set up shield modifications to account for subspace disturbances and possible close approach to the Domusaran Star. I will also look into the subspace disturbances with the data we have so far." Tag: Ghes/All

There was a long pause between Ghes's question and his staff's response, as if there was a sense of unease amongst them about how things were unfolding. Running on comm silence, no contact with external vessels or installations except with the Enzio's two support craft.
"What type of casualties are we to prepare for captain," he asked quietly, "and in what scale?"
"The scale is unknown, Saryn. It could be none at all, or the other end of the spectrum... Heavy casualties, possibly total." Ghes paused, knowing how unhelpful a comment that was for his Doctor, "I want you to prepare sickbay for the worst case scenario. Set for maximum emergency status, as if we were preparing a planetary evacuation.
"As for the type of casualties - assuming we're discussing the Domusara Facility itself - these are Federation scientists, non-Starfleet. They're civilians studying the properties of the nearby red dwarf star. However, not knowing the extent of the problem at Domusara, there could be other... variables you may have to account for. The distress call combined with the outlying subspace disturbances give us cause to believe there could be another form of life on or recently on the facility. If such life requires our assistance it's within our remit to give it but let's be cautious.
"Commander Saklat of the USS Eagle is on hand to take on casualties if required if we exceed our capacity." He nodded at the vulcan CO of the Eagle at the end of the table.

"Not so much a question as a comment, sir, I will set up shield modifications to account for subspace disturbances and possible close approach to the Domusaran Star. I will also look into the subspace disturbances with the data we have so far."
Ghes nodded at Tiana, making new notes on his PADD. His mind was caught halfway between the ongoing briefing and what lay in wait for them at Domusara. Something lay out there in the system's murky depths: contusions in spacetime accessing realms of subspace, a particular substrate whose nature Ghes would rather not contemplate of that cosmic underworld.
"If you find anything out of the ordinary in the disturbances, anything potentially biological. Let me know." He knew as matter of course that the majority of subspace phenomena were harmless: minor perturbations in the vacuum's underlayer and so on. Tiana's scans might reveal a common form of disturbance or, Ghes hoped not, something more peculiar. He dreaded the latter, knowing what intel and surveillance had suggested.
"Sorry, sir. Biological?"
"Yes, Commander." Ghes placed his PADD on the table and leaning forward, linking his fingers. He scanned each face; those of his own staff and the two support ship COs. "If there's nothing further...? Dismissed."
* * *
They stepped onto the bridge, some staff taking their stations, some going belowdeck if they were meant to be off-duty. "Commander," Ghes smiled at Matthew who shifted across to the adjacent XO chair. "What're you doing here? You're not on duty for another few hours?"
"I was summoned, Admiral. We have a situation." Ghes waited for his XO to elaborate. "Telava's failed to make contact. We're scanning a conical region aimed at the Domusara system now - where we'd expected the ship to be - but can find no trace: no metals, warp fields, engine signatures. The USS Sparta's missing, sir."
"Ensign Rogers, scan for our missing starship. Any new tricks being taught at the Academy?"

"Commander Matthew, Admiral why is Starfleet sending out a capital ship for a rescue mission?" James asked.
"Admiral Gheskori Good question Commander. Well Star fleet Command Has the mission listed a Search and rescue mission Officially “But I Have looks over the latest Intel on the system and I Call in some Favors up at fleet command I have found out that Starfleet and several interstellar trading companies have lost a lot of ships during the last 6 months in that area exactly 23 freighters and 3 small but regular fleet units. Considering there has not been any report of pirate operating in that Area its leaves a lot of unanswered question
"What about the political impacts Admiral? We will have until numbers of federation members with Different Agendas looking over our Shoulder." the Chief Security Officer asked.
“Ghes that’s the third part of the plan. Let leave that to fleet Command I have my plate full with part 1&2. Of this mission Gentleman

"Yes, we're looking at what your early Earth mariners and atmospheric pilots referred to as the Bermuda Triangle, my officers..." Ghes said, rounding the bridge's front section as if he was circling a war-table - an imaginary one with the system picked out in the middle and surrounded by a jagged line showing where the boundary (and most) of where the ship vanishings had taken place.
Ghes closed his eyes, "Let's hope the USS Sparta hasn't become the latest in this string of disappearances..." He shook himself from his reverie; to contemplate something so awful, a setback such as that, would only drag him further to the depths when he needed to be focussing on the task at hand.
"Commander Matthew. If we do get any comms from Command - with Federation member-world ambassadors all over them - I'd like you to deal with them..." he spoke quietly to his XO. He didn't want to alarm his bridge crew unnecessarily, although he was aware they would be able to hear him if they'd wanted. "I need to focus on liaising with Commodore Telava of the Sparta, when we rendezvous with her, and our two support craft."
<Tag Matthew>
15 lightyears from the heart of the Federation... all the more disconcerting from the human point of view as Earth lay between Domusara and Vulcan - Terra was acting as a virtual shield for arguably the UFP's second most important world.
"Sir... Detecting something on long range sensors. Hard to determine its nature... Directly ahead," the tactical officer reported. "It's..."
Only once the Enzio had aligned its scanners along the correct coordinates did the first indication of an identifiable signal come out of the far blackness.
This far out, sensors had to be tightbeamed to a particular set of coordinates if any meaningful data was to be collected. If the ship sent out what was the 24th century equivalent of sonar signals in all directions, in the case where they knew there was nothing discernible within range, then they could collect only a very limited amount of data from each arc-square of coordinates - if something came back, the information would be so bare that there'd hardly be enough of it to ascertain if there was a real object or if it was perturbation in the microwave background, interstellar dust, gamma rays etc.
"Got something concrete, sir... Debris, drifting in the direction of Starbase 47. The constituents of the debris are of similar mass to the USS Sparta..." Heads lowered about the bridge.
"Make a small warp jump, factor one, Commander Cavit," Ghes ordered, settling in the command chair, head down, his fingers linked before him - interweaving with each other endlessly. Finally he sat back, soothing his mind with his head's tactile presence against the back of the command chair. "Bring us out of warp 100,000 kilometres from the Sparta's wreckage. Then, Ensign Rogers, zoom to full magnification and have the viewer track the debris as it moves past us."
<Tag Cavit, Rogers>
Spindly shards of starship remnant filled the viewscreen; brown, splashes of red, a razed hulk of a vessel terrorising the minds of all those present on the bridge, seeing what'd become of her. There was no recognisable shape; no identifiable saucer fragment, nacelle, curve of the stardrive or support strut; just dim, glowing wreckage like the embers of a fire. The Sparta had been a Luna class vessel, of comparable size to the Prometheus class Enzio but with less combat capability; more an explorer.
"Scan that... vessel. First, was that definitely the Sparta." He glanced at Commander Matthew, experienced officer in these matters, who agreed silently. "I want to know what destroyed it and by what means... Tiana, scan the wreck and tell me if you find anything... biological. As in 'not' human or other UFP species..."

Saryn returned the nod to the Vulcan CO. "My medical staff is at your disposal captain," he offered, "even if our own medical facility may exceed capacity, you may call on us to assist when necessary." The Vulcan civilian made a few notes on his PADD, then listened intently to the exchange of information. It was a lot to take in, especially for someone non-starfleet, despite the fact that he was born and bred into a Vulcan warrior clan. But, not today's warrior clans.
"With your permission captain, I need to return to sickbay." Not only did he want to spend time with his son, and make sure his daughter wouldn't bite him just for fun or get a rise out of the youth, he also needed to breef the young man. He needed an envoy on the other ship, and who better than someone he was well connected to? Someone, like his son? "I have to brief my staff..."

Gheskori acknowledged Saryn's request to leave the briefing early. He understood the vulcan might still be preoccupied with his son's recovery. He decided to make it the CMO's prerogative how he treated his son at this point. The young vulcan may be ready for return to duty, but for the Captain to decide on that now seemed a step out of line.

He strode the brightly lit corridors of the brass's suite; wood panelling, a retro touch he thought, lined the walls, separating rectangular plains of frosted pseudo-glass. Faint and dark outlines of people moved beyond the glass, conducting Starbase administrative duties. He was due for his final meeting with brass officials before departing with the Enzio and its embryonic task force. The finalities of his assignment, the nuanced details, he expected to be imparted onto him.
"Admiral," the central flag officer of the three behind their desk greeted him as he entered their office. "Take a seat."
"Of course, sir." Ghes slid into the chair, eyeing each in turn before returning to the central figure. This was Admiral Johns, decorated officer involved in several combat engagements during the Dominion War. Gheskori had to wonder at why this was becoming such a military-orientated mission, if a combat veteran such as Johns was chairing this meeting.
"Your scientists will find much of interest in those subspace disturbances on the edge of Domusara, Rear Admiral," the female Admiral to Ghes's left said. She sat back in her seat, Ghes regarding her with curiosity. She couldn't be older than 35. One of those fast-tracked geniuses, or an uncompromising careerist, who placed ambition for its own sake before genuine interest in the field.
"The disturbances' nature has been deduced?" he asked.
"We have suspicions."
Ghes winced, suppressing the temptation to bury his head in an arm. "I'll tell my science officer. It would help if you could... illuminate me as to the nature of these things? I know to an extent, but if I could tell my officers, as well as Saklat and the SS Vingazi's skipper, it might make our job out there easier?"
"No, Gheskori," Johns cut in, "The particular circumstances of this... We can't trust anyone; not even yourself. That's why we have Telava aboard the Sparta to accompany you. She's... uncompromisable."
The briefing drew to a close after several minutes. Ghes rose quickly, rolling his eyes once his back was to them and walking from the office. They were to run under comm silence - no external comms - until Domusara, where they'd either find an intact station; false alarm; or false alarm with possible dangers on the cosmic horizon; or a graveyard.
* * *
Ghes sat brooding in his command chair, recalling this encounter. He lifted his head from his hand, dusting off his palms. "Any scan results from the USS Sparta wreckage. What destroyed her? Anything amongst the wreckage, signs of... bioweaponry?
<Tag Rogers, Tiana, ALL>
"If we don't find anything further..." he began, half-thinking that the disintegration of the wreckage might be so complete that they wouldn't find anything of use amongst it, "Drop a sensor probe to feed us telemetry while we continue on to Domusara. ETA to the system if we leave now?"
"Two hours, sir."

"I want to know what destroyed it and by what means... Tiana, scan the wreck and tell me if you find anything... biological. As in 'not' human or other UFP species..."
Tiana started the scans. She wasn't sure what she wanted to find. If there was no sign of biological matter then it was possible that the crew had survived. If so, where were they. If there was biological matter then she would be confirming the death of every individual aboard one by one.
It was the Sparta, or perhaps 'had been' would be a better description. She had been gutted and burned and exposed to vacuum. No life signs. Biologicals were everywhere some contaminated by the burn damage. Although, of course, it wasn't an oxygen burn, the Sparta's atmosphere was long gone. It was going to take a long time to sort through all the traces.
Ghes sat brooding in his command chair, recalling this encounter. He lifted his head from his hand, dusting off his palms. "Any scan results from the USS Sparta wreckage. What destroyed her? Anything amongst the wreckage, signs of... bioweaponry?
"No confirmation on cause yet." Tiana said without looking up from her console. "I have 18 biologic traces I have so far not confirmed to belong to those who should have been aboard her. Still working on isolating and analysing."
She did not say that she had pretty much confirmed that the entire crew had died with their ship. What had happened over there? Bioweaponry was a possibility although it would need to affect multiple species and then either burn itself out or go dormant. Bioweaponry would not explain the physical damage to the Sparta though. It wasn't a warp core breach but that left a lot of options...

"I have 18 biologic traces I have so far not confirmed to belong to those who should have been aboard her. Still working on isolating and analysing."
Ghes remained seated, tapping the tips of his fingers together in rhythmic fashion. He knew Tiana would work as quickly as possible without allowing for expedience. "Those 18 traces; double and triple check your findings. If any are organisms or biomatter that aren't meant to be part of that ship I must know immediately."

Gheskori regarded the viewscreen, the lazily rotating Sparta wreckage turning its metallic angular faces to him as if posing for a holophoto in some obscene recreation of the tragedy. If the Sparta had been destroyed in the same manner that Command suspected the Domusara facility had been 'infected', then the threat was closer than they'd thought. It was fortunate he had one of the fastest ships in the fleet.
"Maximum warp to Domusara that allows the SS Vingazi and USS Eagle to keep up. We'll stay in close formation. Notify me when we're within a million km of the Domusara super-earth and the orbiting Research Facility."
Ghes pondered on the death of the Sparta. Had Telava refused to follow orders, resented the fact of Ghes's promotion over her, and investigated the outlying areas of Domusara ahead of schedule? And before the planned rendezvous with the Enzio and its attendant craft? Perhaps she'd fled the scene of Domusara as enemies had closed in, or perhaps she'd always intended to join the task force but had been ambushed. The possibilities were endless.
* * *
The wine slipped down the inside of the goblet, thick lines of red like blood leaving trails in the patterned glass, their tributaries slowly joining with the dark pool of maroon liquid at the goblet's bottom. Ghes replaced the bottle and raised the glass to the table before him, "To Commodore Telava, and the crew of the USS Sparta."
The officers present echoed the toast. He was dining with the commanders of the Eagle and the Vingazi, James Matthew and the other two COs' respective XOs. There was little time for reminiscence; this was strategic planning. There was a sense of unease though; not everything being said, evasive comments. The XOs knew full well that the COs knew something they did not. The meal came to a close and Ghes wished them goodnight.
The Vingazi's retro-silver-suited civilian skipper stopped in the entrance, smiling with his disarming charisma, "Your man Rogers," he said, "If I could have ten of him in my armoury team then I'd be the best merchant weapons resupplier in the fleet."
Ghes smiled appreciatively - Rogers had done excellently in organising the civilian ship's armoury and security forces - and watched the Vingazi skipper leave his quarters. Then he held Matthew back, the last to be leaving, and told him everything he knew.
<Tag Matthew>
A number of hours later, he received alert of their arrival at the Domusara system. The Domusara Facility lay apparently dormant. No communications of any kind into or out of the station, but no visible signs of damage of the same type the Sparta had suffered. Upon returning to the bridge Ghes ordered the Sabre class Eagle under the vulcan Commander Saklat to patrol the system perimeter. Vingazi stayed in close formation with the Prometheus ship and closed on Domusara Facility.
"Hail them, Mr Rogers," Ghes ordered, settling into the command chair. "Domusara Facility, this is Rear Admiral Gheskori of the Federation Starship Enzio. Can we render assistance?" Silence over the channel. "I'd like to send a team to your facility to ascertain if there's a problem. We've detected unusual subspace disturbances in this area of late. Being so close to the core worlds, I'm sure you'll understand that - "
There was an audible cut in the channel. Followed by a sudden inhuman shrieking. Bridge officers clasped hands over ears, wilting at the sound. "Lost contact, sir..." an officer reported helpfully.
Ghes turned to Matthew. "Lead an away team. Take Galwyn, Saryn and Rogers, along with SS Vingazi security forces. Find out what's going on over there. The Enzio and Vingazi will hold station here."

Ghes waited out the tense minutes before the arrival of the first comm from Commander Matthew's team. The Vingazi's skipper had signified that he'd transported his security forces across - the Enzio had only to wait and hope for a positive outcome as to the civilian team's destination. A comm line crackled open, unexpected interference filling the bridge with an eerie hiss.
"Admiral we're in main Engineering. The system is on automatic setting no station personnel have been sighted. The away team from the Vingazi have beamed down we will break up into search teams”
Sighing in relief, Ghes at last settled back in his command chair. He'd been pacing for the last 20 minutes. Domusara Facility was totally inert, and proving strangely impervious to scans. The stand-in tactical officer - Rogers having joined the XO's away team - had grown frustated at his efforts to make even cursory scans of the facility's interior.
"It's good to hear your voice, Commander," Ghes said. "Continue scanning for lifesigns, the researchers can't simply have disappeared. If something has killed them we'd have expected to at least find trace of their remains..." It was a half question, half shared-thought with Matthew.
“Dr.Saryn and two security officers will head for the station medical bay and Ensign Rogers and his security teams will do a general search of the station. Cmdr Galwyn with security will head for operations. I hope we will find some answers there. Matthew out."
Ghes had perched forwards on his seat, myriad questions on the tip of his tongue but none of which were fully formed and none of which could be answered at this point. He sat back with another sigh, compressing the backrest of the seat and releasing air.
He evaluated the situation. Federation research facility Domusara was powered down; subspace disturbances of unclear nature dominated the edge of the system; the Sparta's ruins lay well behind them, its assailant unidentified but under research by the science department; the entire Federation - except for high-level members of the brass including the Commander-in-Chief and maybe the UFP President - were unaware of what was happening here. Not even this very task force was trusted by the Admirals, although apparently they were willing to sacrifice that insecurity for the benefit of discovering what was happening in Domusara. To muddy the picture further, Ghes's own XO knew full well of who and what was suspected to be responsible for this incursion deep into the core of Federation territory (Ghes had briefed him); but Matthew wouldn't reveal it, not until his away team found it. Ghes hoped it wouldn't come to that.
"Anything out of the ordinary, Commander? Something that's not meant to be there?" he finished vaguely after pressing the intercom to contact the away team.

Though Saryn had not quite expected to go on an away mission to the station, he was always prepared for missions just the same. Like any CMO he kept his medical kits stocked and ready to be grabbed on a whim. This time dressed as a civilian, instead of in medical uniform, Saryn transported over to the station with the rest of the team.
He nodded politely to each security officer which flanked him on each side. Petty Officer first class Bruce Jenkins, and Petty Officer second class Ruby Addams. He knew neither of them very well but from their anxious looks, they weren't experienced people. Fortunately for them, he was as trained as the CTSO, having served as one for several years himself. And of course his clan history. The girl looked particularly tense as they crossed the eerily silent corricors of the station.
To the trained Vulcan, it appeared abandoned but he knew looks could be deceiving. "Keep your eyes roaming," he advised the two youths that flanked him, watching them keep their rifles ready. He himself only had his red-bladed sword, but otherwise no weapons on him. He kept the weapon sheathed for now, letting his companions do what they were trained to do.
"Sickbay is a deck down, but the station seems to be lacking a proper power distribution. Are you both up for a climb?"
Jenkins nodded. "Yes doctor. I will go first, and Ruby will bring up the rear. You will keep between us at all times doctor. We're expendable, loads of PO's where we came from, but you're not so we're ordered to keep you safe at all times."
Saryn almost smiled, reaching to tap the boy's arm. "Petty Officer, do you even know who or what I am? You two make sure you return to the Enzio alive do you hear? I can take care of myself. I fight better, than you two together if I need to. I am a suus mahna master."
Ruby looked up at him in awe. "Really? That's just awesome doctor. It's good to know you'll hold your own but we're here for your protection as well as making sure there are no other threats."
"As you wish," Saryn conceded, not wishing to step on their pride. He followed Bruce into the jefries tube and kept pace as they started their decent to sickbay's deck. Once there, again the deck seemed deserted and they reached the medical bay without encountering anyone else. "Stand guard at the door," the doctor ordered as he started a sweep across the medical bay. "Saryn to Matthews," he then spoke softly, tapping his hidden combadge. "Sickbay is clear, there does not seem to be anyone aboard sir. At least, we encountered no-one on our way. Jenkins and Addams are standing guard."
In his focus on the two enlisted officers, Saryn had actually completely forgotten about the presence of the security chief. Now remembering the presence of the young ensign, the Vulcan turned. "I apologise sir, if you have anything to add to my prior orders, please do not hesitate to correct me. In security matters, I concede to your authority."

:: Addition to prior post ::
The medical facility seemed deserted; apart from two bodies sprawled on the floor, there was no-one alive. Well no-one but the two civilian security officers, Ensign Rogers and Saryn himself. Leaving the security people to their own investigation, Saryn walked off into the CMO's office, seating himself at the desk to activate the computer and uplink it's saved files to his own tricorder for later study.
He looked up when a shadow fell across the deck, smiling ever so slightly at Addams who stood in the doorway. "Doctor, there's something you sh-" He watched her eyes go wide in surprise, then sensed the danger only a fraction too late. A bright bolt of energy shot right past him at the girl, killing her instantly. He turned, rising from the chair at the same time, his hand on his sword. He was too late, he never saw what struck him down.

===
He didn't know how much time had passed since being struck down, but he realised that his headache would only grow worse if left untreated. He opened his eyes but saw nothing, feeling something tied around his head. Turning his head, realising that he saw nothing, he came to the conclusion that he must be blindfolded. While to him it was an uncomfortable realisation, he also had to acknowledge that the blindfold was drawn tightly around his eyes, obscuring any light from coming in, but not so tight that it was unbearable.
When he tried to move, he discovered his hands were tied behind his back and he was leaning against a wall or a bulkhead, or possibly even a crate. He couldn't tell. Moving his arms, agian he found that he was bound securely but with a manner of respect he'd never encountered in captors before. He was, under the circumstances, relatively comfortable.
Wherever he was, there was absolutely no sound. "Hello?" he called out, "hello? Where am I? What do you want with me?"
A gloved hand was drawn over his mouth to indicate he should remain silent and he felt someone lean over him. "Be silent," the voice spoke. A soft, pleasant voice that carried a note of authority. Unaccented, to the Vulcan's ears but that didn't mean anything at all. "Speak only when spoken to. Nod, if you understand."
Carefully, the Vulcan nodded, gaining nothing from his captor as the hand was gloved and there was no skin to skin contact. The hand was promptly removed and Saryn gasped for breath.
"Who are you?"
"I am Saryn," the Vulcan responded, answering only the direct question, offering no additional information.
"Who do you work for?"
"Starfleet," Saryn answered calmly, still sensing no actual danger.
"Liar."
Saryn felt the hand tug at his collar, felt the cold tip of a hypospray and felt the injection of a cold fluid. "What did you inject me with?" he asked, immediately feeling a sense of drowsiness washing over him. Just a haze, nothing more, likely to give him the feeling of being more compliant. Or to make him dread something worse. "I work for Starfleet," he repeated, "but I am not a Starfleet Officer. I am a civilian."
He was met with a brief silence as his captor seemed to contemplate his answer. "What are you."
"I am a doctor, my purpose is to heal."
"What are you doing here?"
"We came to help, to see if there were survivors we can help." He turned his head, trying to get a sense of where his captor was in relation to himself. He sensed nothing. "Who are you..."
A chill went down the Vulcan's spine as he was injected again, this time sending him back into unconsciousness. The injections were harmless, and would leave him without side effects other than feeling rested after a good sleep. He sagged back against the wall, his captor just catching him as he nearly fell sideways. Saryn was eased down into a lying down position that would keep him comfortable until he regained consciousness, and would be subjected to more questions.

Ghes turned to Matthew. "Lead an away team. Take Galwyn, Saryn and Rogers, along with SS Vingazi security forces. Find out what's going on over there. The Enzio and Vingazi will hold station here."
Commander Matthew got up from his chair “Yes Admiral. Commander Galwyn, Ensign Rodgers, you’re with me.” He tapped his comm badge =/\=Doctor Saryn meet me in transporter room 2 for an away mission=/\=
Tiana gathered up a tricorder and a phaser and headed for the transporter room. She looked around their beam round site. The place was empty, abandoned. Tiana started making a survey as Commander Matthews spoke to the Enzio.
=/\=Dr.Saryn and two security officers will head for the station medical bay and Ensign Rogers and his security teams will do a general search of the station. Commander Galwyn with security will head for Operations. I hope we will find some answers there. Matthew out.=/\=
Tiana acknowledged the order and called up a map of the facility. She was pretty sure she knew the way to Ops but it really wouldn’t do to get lost. There was no sign of life anywhere on the way to Ops, but nor was there any sign of damage. In fact Tiana could make out nothing to indicate what had happened here. She was focused on what she was doing and didn’t really notice that Commander Matthews was also heading for Ops. He stepped into the room as she was looking around.
“Commander Galwyn, find yourself a working console and see if you can pull up anything we can uses to explain what going on around here. I will be in the Station manager’s office and remember everyone we have less than six hours left before we must check in with the ship I would like to have some answers for the Admiral.”
“Yes, Sir.” Tiana had plenty of choice of operational consoles and starting with the overall control panel. This should have the status of every system displayed. It was currently on and everything seemed operational although as she started looking Tians noticed that several systems weren’t in their standard running mode. They were in a low power mode. They had been deliberate switched over, that was probably an answer to something but Tiana didn’t yet know the question. There should be a time coded record of commands entered, that would be a good place to start.

Within the sanctum of his ready room Ghes reviewed again and again the information on Domusara in the lead up to the Enzio, Eagle and Vingazi's arrival here: inbound and outbound ships, long range communications to and from the facility, frequency of recurrence of the subspace disturbances surrounding the system just inside its heliosheath. And communications outside of the system that might pertain to the suspected crisis here, depending on who'd transmitted them and who'd received them and whether or not those were Starfleet personnel.
Further clues about the station's recent past, its final hours as a functioning research facility, proved hard to come by. Only three ships had exited the general region of the Domusara system in the last two weeks; anything before that was out of the usual timeframe in which the investigation should be conducted given that the distress call had been received only three days ago. They would expand the time period of investigation if needed.
The three vessels recently departed from the region of the system were: the civilian cargo freighter John Richards, the USS Sparta, and one of the research facility's unmanned probes (launched in the general direction of the 15 lightyears distant Sol eleven days ago).
A report from his first officer would be arriving shortly. Ghes would ordinarily lose patience at this point, even though Matthew's update wasn't due for another five minutes, but he'd learnt to temper that instinct. It was unusual how often he wasn't able to carry his easy-going manner in command.
His terminal chirped. Swinging in his seat away from the sight of the stars, he lifted his legs off the surface of his desk. "Admiral Gheskori here. Good news, Commander?"
"Uncertain, sir..." the face of the vulcan officer on his terminal screen showed slight bemusement.
"Apologies, Commander. I thought you were someone else," Ghes straightened in his seat and ran a hand through his hair, dusted his uniform down, making himself presentable to Commander Saklat of the USS Eagle.
The vulcan continued, "My ship has circumnavigated the system and made scans of most of the subspace anomalies. Our scientists are studying the data but with our limited labatory facilities, the information might better be analysed aboard your vessel. However despite these limitations our instruments have yielded some... intriguing results on initial inspection."
"Have your data sent at once, Commander. Continue patrol of the outer system. Pay attention to any communications that might come towards Domusara."
"I thought we were operating under radio silence, sir." The vulcan pseudo-shrugged when Ghes merely smiled, suggesting that was a place the Eagle's CO best not go. "Acknowledged, sir."

OOC: Continued straight from last. I wrote the previous post last night but realised I hadn't tagged anybody lol.
IC: The screen flickered to black, leaving Ghes just enough time to replicate a needed drink of ice water before the console lit up again. This was the officer he'd expected. Matthew made his report on the discovery of the Station Manager's final external communication and video playback, and the references to the dozen cargo crates.
"Have Tiana begin cross-referencing 'M.W.D.' with known materials, substances, used in Starfleet research," Ghes said, taking a gulp of water, "These cryo-chambers aboard the John Richards... Did Station Manager Loran's communication indicate if they were occupied on arrival here?" He was surprised at the calmness with which he delivered the question. He felt, not unreasonably, that a fair deal hinged on its answer.
<Tag Matthew, Galwyn>
"What about the other teams, Commander? Dr Saryn and Ensign Rogers's team and the Vingazi's security forces search of crew quarters - have they reported in? Please establish contact if they haven't done so already."
<Tag Matthew, Saryn, Rogers>
Ghes leant forward, fingers to temples, brooding in the seeming increasing dark of his office. How long would Starfleet enforce him to maintain silent running? What if even these simple communications with the powered-down, spookily deserted station were being monitored by... well, whom? And those crates deposited by the Starfleet Intel-enlisted freighter John Richards... Had the station researchers unwittingly fallen into a trap, and had hastened their undoing by doing damage to one crate and releasing -
Wait... 12 researchers, 12 cargo crates?! If Intel had commissioned the John Richards to deliver those crates then the condition placed upon the Enzio to go under silent running was fully justified. Had this malignant force that'd seen to the distribution of these crates spread into Intel, here near the heart of the Federation?

Saryn didn't know how much time had passed since he'd been captured. He was still tied by his hands and feet and not once had his blindfold been removed. His bonds weren't tight, nor completely uncomfortable, but he wasn't exactly comfortable either. To the best of his ability, he had discerned that they were in some sort of cargo hold, though for all he knew, they could even be in crew quarters.
He had deduced this, because he was sitting on a crate, and he was leaning back against another one. The surface behind him was cool to the touch. Somewhere along the way, after his first interrogation, he'd somehow fallen asleep.
The interrogator moved about the cold chamber, circling the alien's makeshift chair, his soft footfalls apparently not stirring the male who'd identified himself as a member of the Federation from his slumber. The sleep was part drug-induced, part due to the alien's presumed exhaustion. He stepped up to the crate supporting the captive's head and injected a stimulant into him just below the ear.
"You're awake," the interrogator said, seeing the vulcan come to groggy consciousness, "Forgive us the blindfold. Secrecy is paramount to us at this time." His words were gentle but incisive, some force hidden behind them that if allowed out would place anyone in peril.
Not even having tried to remove it to ascertain his whereabouts, Saryn nodded slowly. “Please be careful with the sedatives and stimulants, I do not wish to create a tolerance for them, nor an intolerance.” He shifted slightly, trying to sit up straighter but his feet didn't touch any ground to provide leverage. “I understand the need for secrecy,” he replied calmly, though he listened very closely for any identifying sounds. “How long have i been asleep?”
The interrogator hesitated before answering. He glanced back at the others, crowded around the doorway of the steel-plated chamber. The place wasn't small but no echo or otherwise would betray the size of the room to their captive. After receiving a nod he looked back at the vulcan immobile in the chair.
"Two hours," he answered, "The others of you that transported aboard this base have made attempts to contact you however, we are jamming them... How can you understand our need for secrecy? You've come in search of survivors? The deaths are our responsibility, however not all have expired."
“We came to investigate where everyone is, or how they expired,” Saryn answered after a moment of thought to formulate his answer without antagonizing his captors. “You require secrecy so that, should my crewmates come for me, I cannot identify you should we ever encounter you again. How are you responsible for their deaths, and where are the survivors?”
The interrogator exhaled lightly, continuing to pace around the vulcan's make-shift chair. "We're responsible for their deaths because we killed, or rather allowed them to die. They interfered, wouldn't accept our help on amiable terms. And wouldn't render assistance to us. However," he stepped closer, leaning in and readying another injection, this time into the vulcan's exposed wrist, and said softly but not overtly menacingly, "I am the one asking the questions. In spite of our fair treatment of you thus far we ask you not to forget that."
"You're a doctor but presumably with scientific knowledge. What do you know of tetryons and their ability to activate subspace manifolds?"
“Nothing,” Saryn answered truthfully, wincing as he was injected. But with what, this time? “My medical knowledge is out-dated, and I am still working to update it to present time. My scientific knowledge is negligible. My combat skills however...are quite up to par. What do you want?”
"Your combat skills won't be necessary, nor accessible to you." The interrogator was non-chalant as he rounded the chair, "And again, I'm asking the questions. Suffice to say in the short term we want tetryons, specifically the type developed by this station's scientists." He looked back to one of the others standing near the doorway, It should be setting in by now, he communicated, and four of them moved forward to surround the blindfolded vulcan.
"Where is your ship? We're having trouble detecting it. You say you're from Starfleet but we recognise no Starfleet engine signatures in the region. Your people, if you've been telling the truth, may have abandoned you."
“That may be the case,” Saryn answered, tilting his head. Somehow he was unable to sense those around him but there was something even more concerning going on. He was losing sensation in his extremities. He stifferened as he came to the realisation that whatever he was injected with last, was the cause of this and his blood ran cold. The Vulcan shook his head in disbelief. No, this wasn't happening, this just wasn't happening. Not again! “I know nothing about tetryons,” he added, his voice shaking. He tried to tug at his bonds, but he felt nothing, he wasn't even sure if he was moving.
“I do not know where the Enzio is.”
The Enzio... So their intelligence was correct. The insiders at Starfleet Intelligence had kept tabs on the movement of notable vessels in the region. The Federation had sent one of their more advanced starships, thus they did see their presence here as an appreciable threat. Of course the Starfleet vessel remained firmly within their sensor range, as well as the other two craft, one of which was circling the subspace disturbances.
The others began moving the entirely numbed vulcan out of the room, the interrogator following closely. Stop his writhing, he communicated to them silently, knowing the vulcan wouldn't be aware of the attempts to stop his struggles. "Maybe you don't know anything about these particles. But there is a ship out there exploring the subspace layers on the edge of this system. What's their mission? Are they Starfleet?" he finished so as not to undermine his feigning not knowing where the Enzio was.
They led him into another chamber; no crates, no light source, only darkness. "Your people aboard the station will be working to free you. We plan to return you to them in due course. As well as the alive scientists we've placed in stasis in cargo storage pods."
Unaware of the movement, not even feeling their touch on his body, Saryn struggled to keep his sanity. Fear is the mind killer.... He intoned, closing his eyes inside the blindfold. I must not fear... “I do not now,” he answered again. “There is another vessel, but I do not know where it is. You are correct, they will look for me when I am missed. And I will be missed if I do not answer hails.” He took a deep breath, or at least hoped he did. “They will not allow you to harm me.”
"I'm sorry to say your friends may be able do little to prevent that." He looked at one of the others, "What's wrong with him? This is an extreme reaction in one of this species." He turned back to the shaking vulcan, "We'll ease your discomfort." He felt a surprising twinge of sympathy and nodded to the other. His colleague stepped forward and administered an injection to return a small amount of feeling to the Doctor's extremities. "Eventually they'll break up our jamming signal, when we have no more need of it. Until then we have much to learn from you..."
Looking back once before exiting the chamber, his eyes bore empathy rather than murder. He nodded to his colleague, indicating they take the vulcan to the storage pods, and cold stasis...
Now with little feeling back in his body, he could feel he was placed on a semi-solid surface. There was little room to his left and right and he felt his feet touch something solid. His hearing picked up the sound of something closing over him, but with his hands bound behind his back, he could not reach up to touch it. A hissing sound told him that air was being sucked out, and he felt his surroundings cool off rapidly. He shivered, then screamed as realisation dawned on him. His scream died as the pod froze over, leaving the Vulcan comfortable in cryo-stasis.

Back Posting about the Sparta.
"Those 18 traces; double and triple check your findings. If any are organisms or biomatter that aren't meant to be part of that ship I must know immediately."
That was order the Admiral had given Commander Galwyn. She had been sent on the away mission and passed charge of the analysis over to Commander Tomal. Really this analysis should not have taken so long but all the samples from the Sparta were contaminated and it was proving tricky to remove the contamination and get clean samples. It was also proving tricky to identify the contaminant. There had also turned out to be a lot more than 18 different sets of remains in the area. Some of the crew had been blown out when the ship had been gutted.
Tomal read over the data scrolling down his screen and then walked across the bridge and pressed the door chime for the . =/\=Admiral Gheskori this is Commander Tomal. I have the preliminary results of the scans of the Sparta, Sir. May I come in?=/\=
=/\=Enter, Lieutenant=/\=
Tomal found himself standing in front of the Admiral.
“We have identified all except one of the Sparta’s crew. It appears that most of the died when the Sparta was exposed to vacuum, but there were three of the engineering crew who were in the main engineer area who were already dead at that time. It appears that they also died of suffocation but the cause is uncertain.”

Waiting in impatient solitude Ghes surveyed the view of the distant Super-Earth, a narrow limb dimly illuminated by the light of the Domusara red dwarf star. Somewhere out there, invisible against the darkness of the Super-Earth's nightside, was the orbiting research facility.
Seemingly innocently shut down from the outside, Ghes suspected, in fact almost knew for sure that something awful had befallen the base - the cargo delivered by the John Richards had infected the station somehow, likely through Matthew's reported leak in one of the crates. Not only that but the Enzio's sensors had been unable to penetrate the station's hull; Ghes wondered if the result of the 'infection' had something to do with that.
The chime to the ready room door sounded. He tugged his uniform jacket down and turned from the viewing port, taking up a faux easy posture in the ready room chair and calling the guest in.
The scientist officer Tomal entered, nodding, “We have identified all except one of the Sparta’s crew. It appears that most of them died when the Sparta was exposed to vacuum, but there were three of the engineering crew who were in the main engineer area who were already dead at that time. It appears that they also died of suffocation but the cause is uncertain.”
Ghes took his feet off the desk, sitting forward and steepling his fingers. "So those three didn't die from vacuum exposure?" he sighed. "I was 'almost' hoping for an easy explanation for Commodore Telava and her crew's death... This indicates several layers of complexity. What about the 18 unidentified biosignatures?"
“There was a contaminant on all of the samples. We have managed to isolate it but not identify it. It was present on the Sparta before the crew died.”
"Cross-reference it with the term 'M.W.D.' in the database. It was the label on a dozen crates that were delivered to the Domusara Facility, and then picked up by the Sparta before it set its course for rendezvous with us. Whatever was in those crates may have contaminated the Sparta after its visit to the facility. What happened to Telava's ship, a smaller target, could it happen to the base?" Ghes knew that question at this point was near rhetorical. "Have you managed to determine the exact cause of the destruction of the Sparta, Tomal?"
“There was a cascade overload which caused plasma ignition which was responsible for the burn damage. That was after the ship had been exposed to vacuum and the crew were dead.”
"So something caused its hull to breach..."
"We have not yet worked out what cut the Sparta open although the material of her structure does show two sorts of damage. One set, the elder is consistent with energy weapons, probably disruptors, the other isn't. It appears to be the unknown damage in concert with the plasma fire and the older weapons damage that started the hull breach.
Ghes's face paled... "Continue to study what could've caused the damage that wasn't caused by the disruptors." He was experiencing a sense of dread, perpetuated by foreknowledge, at what type of energy could've caused that breach. But the presence of disruptor damage was somewhat confusing. "What type of disruptors are we talking about? Breen, Romulan...?"

Scene: USS ENZIO Captain Ready room Deck 1
(90 minutes in to the Away mission)
“Gheskori off shift and lounging in his quarters reading when the air whistled informing him of an incoming transmission from the Station "Bridge to Admiral Gheskori"
“Gheskori put down the history book he was reading. "This is Gheskori, Go ahead Mr. Price."
“The Duty Officer's voice showed Concern, "Admiral, Commander Matthew is requesting a Secure Channel Alpha One."
“Gheskori. However, for his first officer to be contacting him using a secure channel something must be serious. "Patch it thru."
SCENE: Supply Station –DELTA P22
“Cmdr .Matthew” Hello Admiral I felt using ALPA-1 Channel was warranted there could be a Cloak ship or Fleet out there listening on all of our communications’
“Sir so far what I have found down on the station ask more Questions than Answers Dr. Saryn Report of finding two bodies in the med bay he thinks are Station crew he hope to know more after a post mortem of the two Bodies ‘
Cmdr Galwyn continues to analyze the sensor data of the Disruptor Damage hopping to get a more reading of just what kind Romulan or Breen
“Matthew the away team form the Vingan are still Searching the lower decks for anything they are due to checking in the next 20 minutes with our limed station sensors also there some kind of radiations leak interfering with all communications on deck 3 I have someone working o that now we will keep an open channel for now will check in with you in 1 hour Matthew out.
Matthew’ walks over to Cmdr Galwyn anything new Disruptor burns or Biological samples really fill they will answer a lot of our Questions tag Gheskori Galwyn <
