First Name: Lorna Middle Name: None Last Name: Holsen Rank: Commander Position: Chief Medical Officer USS Vesuvius B
Gender: Female Species: ½ Human, ½ Betazoid Age: 43 as of Mar 2402
Physical Appearance Height: 5’ 6’’ Weight: 136 lbs Eye Colour: Black Hair Colour: Coppery brown Physical description: Lorna has wavy coppery-brown hair to just past her shoulders, she usually wears it tied back in some form of bun or ponytail. She has a slightly stocky muscular build. She also has noticeable scarring on her left side and arm from about 6cm below the shoulder to her hip (see medical note below). There is a small swirl of burn on the back of her left hand. Despite this scarring Lorna does not suffer from any mobility loss. While on duty she wears her wedding ring on a breakaway chain around her neck inside her uniform.
Personality & Traits General Overview: Date of Birth: 2358.0630
Languages: Lorna speaks Betazoid and Romulan and has been heard to swear fluently in several other languages.
Family: Lorna is Human on her mother’s side and Betazoid on her father’s. Lorna’s mother, Sarah Williams, was a science officer on the Merrimac at the time of Lorna’s birth. Her father Tanren Holsen was a diplomatic officer assigned to the Merrimac. Lorna is the elder of their two children; she has one brother Nicholas who is four years younger than Lorna. Father: Tanren Holsen (deceased) Mother: Sarah Holsen nee Williams, Commodore, CO, USS Feynmann Brother(s): (younger) Nicholas Holsen, Cmdr, COO, USS Regulus Sister(s): None Spouse: Cris Lieder married 2396.1106 Children: Other Family: Brother in Law Galen Lieder, Cris’s twin, works for the Federation Trading Commission as an undercover agent.
History: Lorna has been involved with Starfleet her whole life and despite the traumas that this has caused her it always seemed natural for her to join someday. Her medical inclinations came about as she grew up during a troubled period for the Federation and she wanted to do what she could to help. Lorna spent most of her early years on various Federation starships with her mother; her father accepted a more senior diplomatic posting during this time and was often unable to see his children for months at a time. In 2373 when Lorna was 14, she was with her mother, now a Chief Science Officer, on board the USS Endeavour at the Battle of Sector 001. In the immediate aftermath of the battle Lorna found herself fetching and carrying for the over stretched medical staff. Lorna stayed on the Endeavour during the Dominion war and with the Captain’s permission was assigned as a junior medical intern. Tanren returned home to Betazed during the war and was killed in action during the Battle of Betazed helping free his people from the Dominion occupation. Sarah, Lorna and Nicholas did not find out about Tanren’s death until several weeks afterwards.
After the Dominion war Lorna spent some time on Betazed completing her xenobiology degree and working as in intern in several medical institutes. During this time period she became reacquainted with Junior Ambassador Kel Roan. The two had previously met on the Endeavor during the war when he been a diplomatic aide and courier. Kel’s parents and Lorna’s betazoid grandparents tried to maneuver the couple into getting engaged but Lorna and Kel knew that although they were very close there was no hope of their being anything romantic between them. They continue to correspond regularly. Lorna was then accepted into Starfleet medical school, she graduated in 2381. She was second in her class with a specialty in battlefield medicine. Her first assignment was on the USS Ganymede. She was a Lieutenant j.g. on stardate: 2382.0325 when she first met tactical-response medic Cris Lieder as they were both responding to a severe ground quake on Sephus II. It was later that year when Lorna was injured (see medical note below) on Hatris IV during the civil unrest. Cris was assigned to the USS Republic at that point and the two met up again.
Lorna then accepted an assignment on the USS Virgil as ACMO, she left this assignment shortly afterwards (see reprimand note below). (Classified by Starfleet Intelligence: Lorna Holsen and the USS Virgil were involved in a case that has been secured under Sigma Lockout due to a traitor in Starfleet. All reference to this has been expunged from the records; Lorna has accepted a reprimand and a transfer to move on with her career. I believe that she will be a useful occasional agent as her mental shielding is the best I have ever seen. I was not able to read her, even when she was unconscious. In order to clear her I was forced, with her consent, to telepathically invade her mind - Commander Neilas Anders SI)
Lorna then served on the USS Hermes and the USS Orion, where she passed her Bridge Officer’s Test. She also spent a year as an instructor at Starfleet Medical. She decided she liked teaching but not the classroom environment. She then joined Section 47 serving as the Academy medical instructor prior to the disbandment of the Academy. Lorna took a several week leave of absence prior to being assigned to the USS Majesty. (Classified: Lorna Holsen has been an occasional agent since 2383.1117, with the closure of the Section 47 Academy and a delay before her next formal assignment we have seen fit to give her a two week intensive training and assign her to an extended mission investigate a series of apparently telepathic attacks. Although not a specialised field agent Commander Holsen has extensive experience including several combat situations, she was selected for this assignment because of her strong natural telepathic shielding and medical training. She will start by investigating a survivor on Danet 2. Captain Neilas Anders SI. )
Lorna met up with Cris again on the USS Majesty, Cris got a transfer from the SS Nightingale to the USS Majesty. The couple got engaged on stardate 2396.0505 and were married on stardate 2396.1106. After the loss of the USS Majesty Lorna and Cris both transferred to the USS Rainer. They continued to serve together on the USS Victoroy D and now the USS Vesuvius B

Reprimands: 2382.1204 - Verbal warning issued by Dr Malcolm Arnold CMO (USS Ganymede) regarding Lieutenant Holsen’s rash actions on Hatris IV that resulted in her being seriously injured and could have endangered the rest of the medical team 2383.1115 - Formal Reprimand issued by Commander Eldo Vander First Officer (USS Virgil) regarding repeated unprofessional conduct of Lieutenant Holsen in communication with Dr Vardan (Lieutenant Commander) CMO USS Virgil. Since Lt. Holsen’s transfer to this ship there have been repeated incidents of these two officers having loud and heated arguments in sickbay. I have been forced to enter a formal reprimand on both their records. Lt. Holsen has accepted an assignment on the USS Hermes.
Medical Record: I have examined Lorna Holsen and I have found no physical reason for the lack of activation of her mental abilities beyond the barest of empathic abilities. My only theory on this is that the stress Lorna was under during her adolescent years delayed the onset of her mental abilities to avoid sensing the emotions of the patients she spent so much time around during the war. This may have saved her mental stability but it is unknown if further abilities could manifest. I do not know what the chance are of this if she continues in her chosen profession but based on the abilities of her father and brother Lorna could have a large potential for empathic and possibly telepathic development. - Professor Kelis Vedel (Betazed Psychological Institute) 2377.0118
Lieutenant (j.g.) Lorna Holsen was severely injured on an away mission to Hatris IV. She was part of an away team sent to aid the evacuation of a medical facility which was unstable due to continued bombardment in the ongoing civil disturbances. Lieutenant Holsen went alone into the upper levels of the facility and was caught by a member of the anti-government faction, she was hit several times with a plasma based receiving 2nd and 3rd degree burns to the left side of her body. She will recover from her injuries although there will be permanent scarring. Three patients were evacuated from the area by Lieutenant Holsen before the Dr Malcolm Arnold CMO USS Ganymede 2382.1204
Interests: Lorna is interested in music and has been known to play music in sickbay while at work. She plays tennis and racquetball, as well as enjoying swimming and rock-climbing. Due to the nature of a lot of her work Lorna has also put in a lot of time on the phaser range and has extensively studied self-defence. She enjoys working out with hand to hand combat sparring.
Additional Notes: Lorna has very low level empathic abilities, she also has a mind sense, meaning that she can often sense the presence of other minds in physical proximity to her even if she can not read the emotions or thoughts of that mind. Multiple presences can overwhelm this sense. Lorna does not talk about what happened on the USS Virgil and tends to get angry when the ship is mentioned. She has, however, hinted that there are more detailed records available for those with a high enough security clearance.
