Primary Administrative Complex, Kota Pertama, Ooman Negara
Max stepped up to the display as Alison directed.
"These readings are transporter signals. People are being beamed from the eastern part of the city into the Malkosian Gifforan."
Kemala stepped closer, deeply concerned, "Uafin does not possess such technology. Did your vessel introduce it?"
"I cannot see how, Administrator. We have been here only a short time, and our ship is outside of transporter range of Uafin."
"The infrastructure to transport so many people, so quickly, should be difficult to conceal from the Enzio's sensors." Max said, "And yet, we didn't detect anything of it from the Enzio, or from the shuttle as we approached. Can you tell who is being transported, Lieutenant Miak?"
"Not with these readings. Maybe from the shuttle, we could."
"Hey, are we going back to the shuttle?" the EMH asked, "I could do with a recharge sometime soon."
"What is your meaning of 'recharge'?" asked Kemala, her tone still one of concern.
The doctor nodded gracefully toward the Administrator,"My power cell is running a little-"
"-Health-Bringer!" Vlahos said, interrupting him, "Doctor. Kemala. There is a history that must be told at this time, I believe it may have immediate significance."
"Which history?" Kemala asked, her commanding tone communicating quite clearly to Max which one of them gave strength to their relationship, "Uafi are disappearing! This is not the time for history!"
"I will be brief, Administrator." Vlahos said formally, locking eye contact with Kemala. She looked away first, which Vlahos took as his cue. He turned to Max, and to the doctor. "Eleven years ago, a situation known as the 'projection incident' started a war between the nations of our world. That war was the last war, the war that ended with a peace we hoped would be eternal, a peace that founded our global council. In that time, projection technology was used as a weapon, our enemies dropping large devices capable of projecting horrific images. False explosions. Images of the dead, laying bloodied in our streets. Pieces of buildings, falling from above. Soldiers who were not really there. The effect on the population of many cities of the world was... unsettling, and there were... unfortunate deaths. People became afraid to leave their homes. The city became a shadow. Though eventually the devices that produced the images were destroyed, and the Malkosian Gifforan and the DakTu Detholiad were identified as the source - though, to this day, both claim otherwise - one of the first policies of the global council was to disallow projection technology from being used on our world." Vlahos turned to Kemala, "Administrator, this health-bringer is bears the name 'Sam'. Through his efforts, many Uafi who survived the failure of the Settle-Vessel now live who may have died, including our own Kartika."
Kemala moved toward the door, Max could read the rage in her stride, as she reached out toward what appeared to be a blue alarm panel. Vlahos moved between her and the panel. "A projection? Here? In this centre! How could you allow this? How could you allow... an apparition... close to our daughter?"
"I didn't know! I didn't know!" Vlahos shouted, "He appeared just as the rest! I learned only as the shuttle approached the landing platform! And he saved Kartika's life! Our shining one!"
"It is significant!" She said, firmly, no longer trying to push past him to the door.
"Immediately significant. Just as she is. Just as you are," he replied, gently caressing Kemala's shoulder, "After the landing platform, with weapons fired at us, and I with such relief to be back on Uafin, and with the events that have followed us to this location, the topic of projections was not forefront in my own mind."
"And yet. Politics. This will be difficult to play well. You are really a projection?" She asked of the EMH.
"Doctor Sam Reynolds, Emergency Medical Hologram, Mark four. Health bringer to all, no questions asked," he said with a slight grin.
"You are like no projection I have ever seen," she replied, her tone still carrying a ripple of unease.
"May I take that as a compliment?" the EMH asked.
She ignored the question and turned to Alison, "Under law, I should destroy your heath bringer's projection system."
"I guess not it's not a compliment. I would prefer an option I might survive?" The doctor said.
Kemala ignored him, "If it is revealed that your projection technology has so effectively infiltrated the central administration facility of the Ooman Negara, it will unite much of the council against you."
"Someone already knows," Max said, "When we were taken captive, the Malkosian soldiers used a binding that could restrict the doctor's holographic matrix, and prevent his movement. They were somehow aware of the technology, had a way to counter it."
"They had weapon to target holographic systems with intent," Miak added.
"That too. The technology was very different from anything else we have seen on your world."
Kemala sat down in one of the chairs at the edge of the room, "Such complexity. Taking action on this matter is beyond my scope of authority, what action is needed?"
"The road to peace is long, and it is hard... but, it is worth it," Vlahos said.
"That sounds like a quote." she replied
"It is."
"Who said it?" she asked
"I did. Sort of." the doctor said.
Kemala smiled, obviously considering the words.
"I think the Admiral should be made aware of this situation." Ensign Rivers said.
"I agree. That station is configured with such a connection, though I cannot guarantee a connection. I must consult my superior. I will avoid leading you to your destruction." she nodded toward the doctor, who gracefully bowed his thanks, "Vlahos, come with me."

OOC: Sorry, my time is short as I'm going away for a couple of days, I'll expand this post when I have the time, I may have wifi access where I'm going. Otherwise I'll next be able to post on Sunday.
IC: Ghes instructed Simon to proceed with the modifications to the Enzio's shields that would see them electrostatically charged; he hoped this would protect them from the polaron weaponry of the photonic beings should relations between them go awry. The more advanced tech in the CMR based emitters... he could see their benefit, but now was perhaps not the time for testing prototypes, considering they were engaged in attempting to correct the problems on Uafin - or to disengage themselves from the whole affair -, perhaps through preventing these photonics from interfering further.
Three hours, four minutes... Very shortly, the photonics would be warping out of the system, and the Enzio had yet to convince them to remain.
If the photonics were to depart, what would they bring back (if anything), perhaps larger forces with a military preponderance? If they stayed on the other hand, what was the way forward, further negotiation, a joint response to rectify the troubles of the Uafi (but would Ghes be violating the Prime Directive in taking his ship down such a course?), or would the two foreign groups to the system find themselves turning upon one another?
"Open a channel to the damaged cruiser," he ordered abruptly, referring to the vessel whose attack upon it by the Enzio had brought the skirmish to an end; he thought by taking this route, he would appease and begin reparations to the beings at large, "May I speak once more to your highest authority?"
"We are our highest authority," came the response from the shadowy bridge on the viewscreen, "None among us hold rank over another. We notice that this is not true of yourselves. It is inadvisable to institute such a hierarchy, in any sphere of society."
"Clearly not so inadvisable that we're unable to prevent our compatriots from interfering in the natural processes of the Uafi civilisation. If you had had command of Yoma IO204..." Yarwood began.
Ghes reacted impatiently; they were trying to keep these beings in the system and not further antagonise them, "We wish to work with you, to undo the damage you have caused to international affairs on Uafin." The response was greatly delayed, but when it came it was an hesitant affirmative. "Give us transporter coordinates, and we will give you the same. We will exchange two of our respective crews for a period of 6.3908 hours... to discuss a way forward."
<Tag Yarwood, any on ship>
* * *
As soon as preliminary arrangements to exchange two crewmembers had been made - Yarwood and another agreeing to go - a message came from the surface of the innermost planet (Uafin), emanating from the HQ in Kota Pertama. It concerned the EMH and the fact technology of a similar type to his own had been in use on Uafin in the preceding years, 'til it'd been banned following a disastrous war (the final one excepting the recent conflict).
Rivers made her report with Kempton adding now and again; Ghes could see Lieutenant Miak stood in the background engaged in a somewhat heated discussion with two Ooman security personnel, who seemed to be gesturing towards the EMH, who in turn seemed somewhat sheepish.
Ghes informed the surface team of the Enzio's own findings (which surprised them considerably) and then replied, "Understood, Ensign. As we plan to interfere as little as possible in the Uafi's natural development - despite their new warp-capable status -," and that only marginal, Ghes thought, "We should be minimising contact of our own technology with theirs in any case; perhaps we can start by removing the Doctor from the surface and away from any possible harm."
"Aye, sir." The EMH prepared his mobile emitter to be transported to the Enzio, whether the security guards (who were growing more and more animated) liked it or not. The EMH however requested to stay a while longer: he'd been given a 'reprieve', Ghes was informed, and felt he could continue to help. Ghes agreed.
Kempton added, "There is a lot more work to do, Admiral. The sympathisers to the Malkosians' cause have projection technology or the means to counteract it, and possibly the Malkosians themselves - not to mention the DakTu war party responsible for the current war - will have it as well despite what they've said in the past. And from what you tell us, it's probable the DakTu and possibly the Xiaaf have tech from the photonics."
"We want to work together with the photonic species, Lieutenant. They regret their extensive interference; perhaps we can find a solution."

OOC: note above, have edited post to include response to Kempton, Miak and Rivers
IC: Three hours later, Acting XO V'Maz, in the Malkosian Gifforan
Uirnac's third in command Viltac observed V'Maz closely as the Acting XO of the Enzio accessed the communications panel; he recognised the configuration - simple digital data suppression technology - and opened a 'channel' to the Enzio. Soon after, the bridge of the Prometheus class appeared on the small screen, the resolution low and the lag in image processing high due to the limitations of the tech.
"Admiral," he nodded, "I'm a hostage of the Malkosians. They wish me to be an intermediary between you and their leader, Regent Uirnac. They demand Starfleet weaponry in order to effectively combat the DakTu, and won't release me until such weaponry is received." He gestured to the guards behind him - he'd little choice in what he was permitted to say.
Taken aback, Ghes collapsed back in his seat; he was delighted to see that his acting first officer was alive, but there were even more pressing concerns: of course, he could not acquiesce to this demand; the best course of action might rather be to remove from the DakTu Detholiad the offworlder tech and weaponry which was giving them the advantage in their war. This was perhaps easier said than done, but now that the two photonic representatives had arrived on the Enzio - being hosted in the conference room - they may be able to pick apart the damage done to the Detholiad and other nations.
Several hours later, fragmentary news reports shot across the globe of Uafin: after a short pause and as the world's population waited frozen in terror, it was confirmed, the third subspecies engaged in the war with the Malkosians and the DakTu had detonated a thermonuclear device over the Detholiad's third largest city... In retribution, the DakTu were launching projection tech attacks - which they'd indeed had all along despite their protests to the contrary - on both this third subspecies and the Malkosians.
Conference with the photonics was briefly interrupted and the senior staff on the Enzio (Ghes, Tavik, Clark, Tagert, Hurel; i.e. those not on the surface) took counsel in an anteroom to the main conference room which had a connection to the bridge. Regarding the recent retribution, it seemed the DakTu war party had suspected the Malkosians of having assisted the third subspecies in the nuclear assault, but this and other indicators of war suggested a slight ramping up of the conflict generally over the last hour. The DakTu peace party, lacking their factional antagonists' pride, had requested assistance from all Uafi not engaged in the war, as well as from the Enzio. After this recess, the photonics denied they'd supplied any thermonuclear weaponry or the means to construct it, indeed, they said, they'd moved past such tech long ago.
As the senior most officer on the ship - with Yarwood on one of the photonics' craft - Clark was addressed by Ghes, "Prepare disaster relief teams and deploy them to the DakTu Detholiad city, seek contingencies to allow their infrastructure and engineering works to continue to function. Inform the EMH that he should ready his team to provide medical assistance; we'll beam some medics down, transport some DakTu up."
<Tag Clark>
"Sir, as for removing offworlder tech from the Detholiad at this time..." Hurel began.
Ghes sighed and smiled wanly, "It wouldn't be humanitarian if we were to stipulate we'll only offer assistance if the DakTu give up their offworlder technology. But if we can exert pressure on them, state to them our resources for providing relief are strained," - which was true, he thought -, "And that we may not be able to assist in all areas, then they may begin to realise what steps they must take to end this conflict, and thus for us to depart this system leaving as little an imprint - from ourselves, and from the photonics - as possible."

OOC: Hi people, while keeping open this thread so we can continue to participate, I am moving our action to the Starbase with a view to pushing towards a possible ending of the site mission, or at least beginning to explore the wormhole that has been found by the Starbase and is currently being investigated by the NPC ship USS Maracanda. Below is my contribution to continuing the mission we have at hand, we can add to it as we wish but the primary focus will likely be the events on the Enzio once we've returned to base (see Starbase thread) IC: Three hours had gone by after the thermonuclear device detonation above the DakTu Detholiad's third largest city before those of the planetary inhabitants who were in the know, and the USS Enzio, had realised something wasn't right. Initial scans had revealed to them the extent of the devastation, an estimated 40,000 dead in the first 15 minutes, most of the city destroyed and a power station just out of range of the blast sent into meltdown. However, as time had progressed, strange sights were seen, people emerging out of an empty horizon, looking dazed and uncomprehending, DakTu residents of the third largest city proclaiming their survival given impossible odds, flickerings of sensor data showing the entire urban topology of the city intact, ghosts of suborbital craft banking and leaving vortices that vanished into the same nothingness that the ship, and the nuclear weapon's mushroom cloud dissipated into. In Kota Pertama, the news was learnt rapidly, and Kemala and Vlahos set to arguing, the former claiming the Enzio EMH's appearance had been revealed and the Malkosians and the third warring subspecies had seen it as an excuse to deploy projection technology. Miak, Kempton and Rivers convened - either way it was confirmed, there'd been no thermonuclear device, a holo-projection weapon had been used by the third subspecies in an 'attack' on the DakTu, yet this device had been so convincing in its nuclear effect, that'd taken those three hours for orbital satellites and other sensor systems to see through the deception and report to their respective authorities that the city and its people were all still there. "This is impossible!" Kemala slammed a fist against the table, Vlahos putting a hand on her shoulder, "No Uafi species could ever have developed this technology on its own. The crude projector weaponry has been improved upon." "The photonic beings," Miak said, others nodding, "So they've even had a hand in augmenting technology indigenous to your world." "In what way could they have thought themselves as levelling the playing field?" Kempton said, shaking his head. "Health-bringer," Vlahos turned to the EMH, Sam, "I suggest you return to your vessel, despite my people's assurance that you will be safe, we cannot fully guarantee your safety now that technology similar to yours has been found to be capable of deceiving our entire species." * * * Gheskori had been informed of the 'resurrection' of the city's inhabitants and the city itself shortly after those in Kota Pertama had, and for an hour had sat impassively in his ready room. Commander V'Maz had called again, the Malkosians still demanded Starfleet weaponry as ransom for Ghes's Acting XO, and had renewed their claim vociferously when it was seen that the DakTu had not suffered an attack (thus the Malkosians were no longer obliged to hold off on further demands when there was no humanitarian issue to consider), which seemed to suggest they'd had nothing to do with the attack themselves. Ghes wouldn't acquiesce to their demands of course, but how much longer could the XO remain in the Gifforan in safety? The Enzio had attempted beaming him up, but photonic being-lent jamming tech was preventing it. Hours turned into days and progress was made in coming to an agreement with the photonics, they would work together to remove the weaponry and tech from the DakTu Detholiad, but the photonics wouldn't be drawn on the advanced projection weaponry - they claimed the Uafi must've made the advancements themselves. Something made Gheskori curious about the projector devices... These new models that could seem to generate what was effectively a mass hallucination for three hours or whatever time depending on the ability of sensors to pierce the illusion, photonic energy wrapped about deceived people, an open-air holodeck, an entire planet's population believing a city had been devastated by a thermonuclear detonation: the weapons had obviously not done any real damage, but did they have such ability? Ghes imagined a Starfleet holodeck with the safeties deactivated, yes, it was photonic energy only, but lethal; might this improved projector tech be capable of the same thing? The deadliness of such a weapon did not bear thinking about.

(OOC: Bringing this mission closer to a close) --- Main Conference Room, Deck One, USS Enzio, In orbit around Uafin
Gheskori had called a conference, as he had each day for the last three, to update everyone on the current status of the ongoing situation. This one was different, with the photonics invited to sit in as well, as well as live links to the surface and to the photonic's vessel. Simon had taken an early seat in the main conference room to ensure everything was set up, it's broad windows looking out over the dorsal surface of the Enzio's Primary Engineering Hull and it's nacelles. Simon thought it was a fitting view, looking out over the ship, rather than out at the blank canvas of space, and gave context the the situation. To the port side, the photonic's vessel was visible as a glowing dome, just a few kilometres away, and to starboard, the pollution tinted atmosphere of Uafin was fading from day to night as the planet continued its endless rotation. The audio-visual connections to the photonics' vessel, and to the rudimentary communication terminal on the surface were clean. Whatever interference had been affecting them had vanished, and images of Alison, Max, and Gavril and of Rory and Commander Yarwood were up on the screen. He had exchanged pleasantries just as Gheskori entered the room, Ensign Paulo Hurel and the two photonic beings filed in behind him. He wasted no time in commencing his breifing.
"We are at an empasse. The mass projections initiated by the iyo Soyyon have lifted, and the DakTu Detholiad have ceased their attacks on the iyo Soyyon. The global factions of Uafin appear to be licking their wounds, so to speak, and none are taking any direct action that we are aware of. The Malkosian Gifforan continues to hold V'Maz, requesting only weapons technology in exchange for their release. And citing security concerns, the central council of Uafi has not resumed open debate. I have discussed personally with the leader of their council that our ability to provide assistance of any kind is limited without a peace that guarantees safety of our people on the surface, and that our own policies restrict trading technology that could have unforseen impacts on the balance of power on their worlds. Surprisingly, he agrees with me, accepting the impact of foreign technology has had on their world thus far. My greatest concern is what appears to have been the rapid pace of development of this projection technology. From the Uafi's own historical records, the DakTu-initiated 'projection incident' that instigated the previous conflict was small scale compared to the mass-hallucination we have observed in the last few days. While it appears that the DakTu Detholiad's version of this technology has not greatly moved in the period since that incident, the iyo Soyyon have advanced it beyond that which, and it is not clear how this has been achieved. My real concern is firstly that this technology could become more than a psychological weapon, much as our own holodecks with the safeties disabled, and secondly, that even with the Enzio's sophisticated sensor arrays we are unable to distinguish between projection and reality."
"This form is recognisable as similar to Yama." One of the photonics said,
"Yama?" Simon asked.
"It's a general concept used to describe their race, their ship, themselves, their technology. Yama is their existance," Commander Yarwood told him.
"It took us a while to get our heads around it, though each of them has an individual name." Rory added.
"Yama is Yama. I am Cinqua IO232."
"I am Yoma IO868." the other said. "The Uafi-iyo-Soyyon projection cannot be detected by Yama sensor system. It is not Yama. Clarity is needed: the policies that restrict trading of techology override the security of an individual?"
"Correct." Gheskori replied, "We are not permitted to trade weapons technology without higher authority."
"Inefficient," Cinqua IO232 replied, appearing puzzled, "Will authority be obtained?"
"A decision has not been made." Gheskori offered. His flat tone indicated clearly to Simon that this was not a discussion for the present meeting. "According to the Uafi First Minister, there is no counter to this new form of projection technology on Uafin."
"We have also had reports from the Uafi that the holo-disrupting weapon encountered by myself and Lieutenant Miak is also ineffective against these new projections. We were not permitted to verify the source of this information, it seems to be a political matter." Max announced over the comm-link.
"Stability is threatened by this." Cinqua said.
"Undoubtedly." Gheskori replied, "A solution to this problem is proposed. Lieutenant, your briefing, please."
"Yes Sir." Simon stood, and motioned to the display on the inner wall. "As you know, starfleet holographic technology is based on the interactions of photons and gravitons - forcefields and light. The technology of our guests and of the Uafi is slightly different, as it is based on the interactions poleron quasiparticles to finely control the energy states and therefore the photon emission of electrons around the atoms in the projection media. There is no forcefield as we know it - no graviton profile - and so it is near impossible to distinguish from the surrounding environment."
"Would it not be possible to detect it by the absence of gravitons?" Ensign Hurel asked.
"In deep space, yes, it might be possible without other interference. However, in the vicinity of a gravitational body, and the magnetic fields of a planet, it is not. We believe that the form of the projection is sufficient to mask it's own signature. Ensign Heath, if you would." Simon guestured to the screen. They'd arranged this in advance, Simon thought it would be good for Rory to have an active part in the briefing, as the work behind it had been largely his.
" We have assisted the crew of the Yama to modify several of their holo-disruption weapons to reveal these new projections. The weapon has an an area of effect of ten metres radially, and a 100 metre forward facing range. The causing them to glow and shimmer, without causing any damage. A schematic is shown on the display for your review. We believe that this tool will be an effective and non-destructive counter to the projections such as we have seen over the last few days."
"That sounds like progress, Ensign." Max replied.
"Possibly, Lieutenant." Commander Yarwood said, "There is however, a problem. We have no samples of this projection technology on which to test it, so we cannot guarantee that it will work. We can only test it in the field."
"The holo-matrix of the Yama has a projection core constructed from a dilithum crystal salt matrix, and the interaction of the polarons within the projection matrix release a thin distribution of polaron bubbles, which cannot be masked by the projection itself." Simon told them, putting it up on the display. "The Yama have suggested that the range of these emitters is limited to only a few metres, so the setup of the nuclear explosion as we have observed would have taken a significant amount of resource, and pre-planning. The emitters must have been planted all around the DakTu's third city well ahead of the event, and only be remaining concealed can they have such a devistating effect on the ground. The Yama have provided us with samples of hand-held scanners that should locate the polaron bubbles, allowing detection of the projection emitters concealed within the DakTu's city. We believe these scanners would be able to neutralise the threat of the projections."
"The scanner technology is less sophisticated than the projectors introduced by Yoma IO204. It will counteract the effects of the projector." Cinqua IO232 said, "Yama propose trade with Uafin for equal value, and the condition of equal distribution to all nations. Sensors indicate Dilithium salt in the bodies of this system."
"We are aware of it," Ensign Hurel said.
"Yama require Dilithium salt. It is the heart of Yama. Yama has consumed it." Yoma IO868 told them.
"The Yama's consumption of dylithium, and it's use as a warp plasma catalyst is exceptionally efficient, a good twelve percent better than our own, but they have not developed basic dylithum recrystalisation technology, so their limited supplies have dwindled," Rory told them, "they have expressed interest in a knowledge exchange, and I believe it would be beneficial to both parties."
"Yama will resolve Uafin incident. Integrity will first be demonstrated," Cinqua IO232 told them.
Gheskori nodded, and smiled at the photonic's guesture, and then indicated the presentation back to Simon. "We will discuss it later, then."
"So," Simon stood again from his seat, "In summary, we have, with the Yama, developed a defensive polaron based weapon that may be effective against all forms of the new projection technology. The Yama have provided us with samples of handheld projection emitter detection sensors, with which they propose to trade with Uafin as a whole, in exchange for an as yet un agreed dilithium ore. Both are consistent with the level of technology that has already been observed as having been deployed upon the surface of Uafin, and computer modelling suggests that the introduction of such technology is unlikely to adversly affect the development of the species, and is likely to bring some stability by balancing the disproportionate effect of the projection weapon systems."
"You are proposing that we give these weapons to the Uafi, Commander?" Commander Yarwood asked, obviously surprised.
"It is not our technology to give, but that of Yama." Gheskori said, "I think I can see where this is leading."
"Admiral," Lieutenant Miak said "With your permission, Sir, I propose a tactical scenario, perhaps to leverage the release of Commander V'Maz."
"Proceed."
"The handheld scanners must be tested on the ground, within the DakTu's third city. The emitters may be using a projection to conceal their position, and so should be detectable. Interference by us may provoke a retaliation event from the iyo Soyyon. On standby, we and the Yama will hold a large contingent of their personel alongside some of our own marines armed with the new anti-projection weapons, to beam down and counter any projection attack throughout the city, or in another location. In such a way we will be able to test both the scanners, and prove the weapons effective."
"That would increase the Yama's standing with the Uafi population, indeed. And V'Maz?"
"The Malkosian Gifforan may desire such a weapon, and may accept it in trade for commander V'Maz, either from us, or from the Yama. We would arrange the trade, and subsequently release samples of the same technology to all other nations of Uafin. None would then have any advantage." Lieutenant Miak finished.
"And will the Yama agree to this plan?" Gheskori asked, turning to the two photonics at the table, "It sidesteps our own policies on sharing of our technology on a mere technicality: we would not actually be sharing anything of our own. You have said you have similar policies on sharing of technology. How do the Yama react to this proposal?
"It is our purpose to bring balance to the discord Yama has brought. We would attempt."

Gheskori entered his quarters and peered out the portal at the pearlescent globe of Uafin, covered with noxious clouds though it was in places, it also evoked a sense of its beauty. He sighed and sat on the couch, hearing Mwv'mci stirring in the next room - she would sleep a good while yet -, and picked up a PADD from beside his specially made coffee, synthesised out of a curious mixture of Earth and Denobula-grown beans.
He perused the PADD: the Uafi had made excellent progress in their talks with the photonics, the Enzio mediating and arbitrating all the way thanks to the assistance of the ship's holographic lawyer as well as the Ooman Vlahos and his family. Dilithium salt would be delivered to the Yama in specified quantities with every cycle of Uafin's conduct about its host star; in return, each Uafi nation would receive holo-projection detection tech in the form of handheld sensors as well as instructions on the means to demilitarise the wares they'd been given by the photonics in the past.
One major problem, a sticking point, however, was the Malkosians' position. Despite having been given promises they'd be supplied with the same detection tech as the rest of the species, they refused to talk about or even contemplate releasing V'Maz. The situation had become critical: while the iyo-Soyyon had cooperated so far and thus Enzio and Yama strike teams wouldn't be needed to attempt cleansing the DakTu third city of holo-projectors, those same personnel may be required to rescue the Enzio's first officer.
He shook his head and tapped his commbadge, =/\=Bridge, this is Gheskori. Have we had any movement from the Malkosians?=/\=
A reply eventually came after Yarwood had made his enquiries, =/\=Negative, Admiral. The Malkosian Regent Uirnac still insists his state should receive equivalent offensive weaponry as that deployed by the DakTu.=/\= The DakTu's Yama photonic weaponry, Ghes nodded to himself. =/\=He says any reparations for harm done to their world should begin with addressing the injustices the Malkosian Gifforan has suffered, and that Commander V'Maz will remain until this has happened.=/\=
=/\=Then we go in, it seems,=/\= Ghes mused, shaking his head, =/\=Have the Yama consented to our plan?=/\=
=/\=Aye, sir, hesitantly.=/\=
Ghes found himself lightly chuckling, =/\=If only they'd been so cautious in their initial approach to the 'Uafin problem'. Notify Colonel Tavik and Lieutenant Miak, they're to prepare their squadrons for an incursion into the Malkosian capital.=/\= Only once the recovery was complete and the Regent either pacified or even deposed by his own people could the Enzio crew and Yama photonics release the detection technology to all the nations of the Uafi.

He was on the bridge, Yarwood, Clark, Miak, Kempton and Tavik present, along with Cinqua IO232. "What will prevent the Malkosians from simply eliminating the XO once you begin the rescue attempt?" Kempton said with his characteristic force.
"I'm relying on the assumption they're bluffing on what they're willing to do with V'Maz," Ghes nodded courteously, "They've seen our technology, our ship, and while they haven't seen it in action they may be terrified at what it can do. Imagination is a powerful inhibitor, Lieutenant."
Miak and Cinqua nodded at one another and the former began, "They'll attempt to resist us, with the hope of forcing us off the continent and continuing to demand the offensive weaponry. They won't risk killing the XO, because if they're successful they'll be able to continue to hold him for ransom."
Ghes nodded, "Colonel Tavik, Lieutenant Miak, you'll transport in as close as you can to the capital - outside the interference blanket - and progress on foot. The Yama will approach from the opposite side. Aeryn, take Max with you; Simon, accompany Gavril's team. Gavril will have command of his part of the strike team, but if the mission becomes critical, take command."

"And what about me?" Yarwood protested from Ops.
"You have the conn. I'll be in my ready room." If they pulled off the Vulcan's recovery, the Uafi nations, the Yama and the Enzio's crew (in terms of ethics and General Order No 1) would have everything they need. Ghes was still uncertain and uneasy about the blurred line between reality and projection the iyo-Soyyon had brought about; the new holo-projectors... devastating weapons, did they have a truly effective counter? They had to trust the detection tech equally distributed would be enough to stabilise the political situation and allow them to depart Uafin with clear consciences.
