"Ensign Logan, Chief Green I want you to work together to find this thing," Ephrem said," Right now it’s our only lead." At these words Saskia felt like a quickly deflating balloon. Could he have picked anybody worse for her to team up with? Rationalising the situation for a moment she thought that it might not be so bad, after all, she had only just met the woman, but from the look on the tactical officers face this was not her idea of fun either.
“Permission to take a shuttlecraft Sir?” Logan requested, or rather stated monotonously. Santos agreed it would be quickest, and the two women entered the turbolift in a pointed silence.
"Great," Mira muttered under her breath, "I get stuck with Miss Grumpy overthere." However a quick aye aye was issued and she jumped to her feet, relinquishing her station to her replacement. She followed Logan in to the turbolift, pointedly ignoring her.
The trip in the lift was painfully slow, and Logan was almost out of the doors before they opened. When they entered the shuttlebay she looked down her nose as the slightly shorter woman. “Your driving.” She informed her coolly. She could think of nothing more boring than piloting a shuttle round a nebula looking for a little black box.
"Of course I am," Mira shot back, "I'm the navigator here. I wouldn't let anyone else drive these babies!" She ran her hand along the nose of the shuttlecraft, almost adoringly. "You might put a dent in it."
Logan smiled sarcastically. ‘I’d rather put a dent in you…’ she thought as she climbed into the cockpit behind her.
"Why don't you keep an eye on sensors while I keep an eye on the road," Mira chuckled as she slipped into the 'driver's' seat and kicked the engines into gear. "Green to bridge, we're ready for take-off." Before them the launch bay doors opened and the shuttle lifted off and slowly drifted into space. "Basic course around the nebula, wide sensor sweep," she dictated to the newcomer.
Saskia poked at a few keys on the console, almost lazily doing as she was asked and firing up the sensors. She stared out of the miniature window with a sluggish expression, watching as stars, and then more stars, and little bits of debris floated past. She had done more riveting things while she was asleep.
“Oh look. Its not here…” She said with a yawn for added effect.
"Perhaps you aren't looking hard enough," Mira jibed at her, playfully squinting out the front window, "but alas you're right, it isn't there...yet. Scan the debris, it's what you got scanners for. Perhaps you might wish to use them?"
“Oh, like I hadn’t thought of that already…” Logan doused. The sensors had not picked up anything, she didn’t see how a scan was going to make any difference. If it was there, they would have found it by now. “Maybe it got thrown further a field by the explosion?” she suggested, dropping her sarcasm for the moment.
"Gee, really?" Mira drawled as she changed the shuttle's course, "I wouldn't have guessed. Moving onto the next grid...get ready."
Saskia scoffed, and made a mental note to damn Captain Santos for his poor choice of partner. “Get ready? For what, you going in for some stunt flying?” She said with amusement. This was reminding her of the old days.
Turning, Mira flashed a grin at the CSO and then without warning banked the shuttle hard to port. "Blind spot in sensors," she smiled, "got any feed of it? That box ought to be out here somewhere. What's it made of..can't we do a spectral scan for it?"
“I think its a lead-titanium alloy…but most of the ship will be titanium…” She replied, deciding to set the scanners to search for lead deposits to at least give them some idea amongst the rubble.
“Hey it’s picking up something…its right…” A small ‘bumph’ noise echoed inside the shuttle as an unidentified object slammed into the side of the viewscreen. “There. Is that it?” She asked, pointing to the perpetrator.
Mira scowled as whatever hit the shuttle surely must've put a dent into the hull and chipped the painting. "I suppose...why aren't you beaming it aboard yet? Or you could open the hatch and just pluck it out of space....whatever's your fancy."
Saskia bolted halfway up from her chair and made a very convincing move towards the hatch. Mira ignored her. Sitting back down again she tapped the keys one handed and the object materialized in the hold of the ship. She couldn’t wait to see if it had shuttle-paint on the sides. Mira would just hate that.
“Well its black…and it’s a box…” She decided as she knelt down beside it for a closer look.
"What else would it be? Spacedust?" Mira set the controls to take them back to Excalibur then left her seat to join Logan. "Black, and a box indeed. And it got paint on it too!" She cursed under her breath. "Well security, do your job, open the box and tell us what's inside. What destroyed the vessel, who did it belong to, and what happened to Constitution?"
For a moment the security officer considered deeming it unsafe to open until they were back aboard the Excalibur, but much as that would annoy Mira she herself wanted to know what was inside. A quick attempt to prize it open with her fingers and she had little to show for it. Wasting no time, she swiped out her phaser with a vicious motion and pointed it as though she was about to shoot down a deadly enemy. She fired a continuous burst gradually burning through the outer casing of the box until she was almost through. When the last shard was cut, she cast a sideways glance and Mira before adjusting her aim, flicking a scorching black mark onto the floor of the shuttle.
“Oops.” She said quietly.
Startled, Mira fell back, scowling furiously. "Something tells me you need a lesson in taking aim," she spat as she got back to her feet, "the box is over there." She pointed at the box and then at the scorchmark. "Not here. Now, what's in that box."
“Shame on me…” Saskia mumbled, before replacing her phaser against her will and sliding the top off the box. Inside was single small recorded chip about the size of a communicator. Giving it a suspicious look she passed it back to Mira.
“I guess its better we do it here than on there…” She said, nodding her head towards the Excalibur that was nearly blocking their entire view.
"Better us blown to bits than the entire crew?" Mira mocked in return as she slid the disk into the computer. "You might want to step back...we wouldn't want to scorch you now would we?"
‘That was exactly what I meant…’ Saskia thought to herself as she shook her head and turned back to the box. Not wanting to get ‘scorched’ she busied herself by picking the lid up off the floor and balancing it back on top of the open box. There was nothing else in there, other than the chip. She hoped it gave them some answers. She went and joined Mira at the front of the ship, returning to her seat while the computer read the foreign information.
“Looks safe enough to me," Mira commented as she yanked the chip back out of the slot, a little too forcefully. She stumbled back and her elbow made a soundly contact with Logan's jaw. "Sorry," Mira muttered as she rubbed her elbow, then bent to retrieve the chip she'd dropped.
An instant reaction within the security officer caused her to dig her fingernails deep into the palm of her hand. If she had had an ounce less self restraint, she would have hit her back instinctually, but for now the moment had passed. Certain that by now she must be drawing blood, she chose to ignore the lump now growing on her jaw and instead turn her attention to the viewscreen. She appeased her own anger slightly by reminding herself that she now owed Mira one…
"Green to Excalibur. We've got the black box, and we've scanned the chip inside. Sending data over as we redock the shuttle. Green out!" She turned to Logan. "Looks like this was peanuts....Captain must be rather pleased now I'd say."
“Oh I’m sure he is overjoyed.” Saskia rolled off in a slow hyperbole.

Serving on the Excalibur was never easy. In fact it was deadly. The first captain was killed alongisde his crew by the M-5 computer. Captain Curie, Richads, and James were either retired or missing in action. Ephrem has come to realize that life onboard the ship would never be easy, even if they had the easiest mission ever. ~At least I have a great crew~ Ephrem thought as the ensign reported the shuttles approach.
"Green to Excalibur. We've got the black box, and we've scanned the chip inside. Sending data over as we redock the shuttle. Green out!"
"I want that chip checked out, we need the information on it immediately," Ephrem ordered as he headed towards the science station. He read some of the infromation stored on the chip, but most of it was useless. "The moment we get that information, I want to be informed. The moment the shuttle docks I want them to work on finding the Constitution's ion trail."
"Captain, we will give it one more look, after that we have to head towards the colony," Ephrem said.

As soon as they were back on board the shuttlebay Mira parked the small vessel and headed back to the bridge, leaving Saskia to haul the black box out of the back of the shuttle and deliver it to the science department for any further analysis. When she eventually made it back to the bridge she made a point of staring directly at her station, preferring to forget that the events of the past thirty minutes had ever happened. Even though the Captain had set both women the task of locating the Constitutions warp trail, Logan was damned if she ever wanted to be in an enclosed area with Chief Green again.
The ship was manoeuvring slowly, and they were taking detailed scans of anything and everything without very much to show for it. One hundred and seventeen partials of space dust per cubic metre, a gas-ion cloud that was twenty two and a half metres in diameter, and the small debris field, slowly spreading its contents further and further into the realms of space. Dammit, that meant she had to talk to ‘You-know-who’.
“Ahem. Chief Green, would you mind taking us closer to that gas-ion cloud. It might be sheltering something from the scanners.” She asked, as politely as she could possible bring herself to be, remembering how many people were watching them.
With an overfriendly smile Green navigated the ship towards the cloud, portraying the moves aloud so that the Captain was aware of their new position. Saskia stopped listening at that point, she didn’t really care what she had to say, as long as they could get some better readings. As she expertly recalibrated some of the scanners to block out interference, Saskia had one ear on the communication that just came in.
=^=Lieutenant Forge to the Bridge.=^= Came the voice of the chief science officer.
=^=Go ahead.=^= Ephram directed.
=^=We think we may have found something.=^= He relayed. =^=There was an encrypted video recording on the chip.=^=
Ephram looked eager. =^=Alright, put it onscreen please.=^= He ordered. A few moments later, the viewscreen crackled into life, showing a spattering of white noise. Eventually the picture flickered onto the screen, depicting what looked like a small ‘ready-room’ type arrangement, with the camera on the desk pointing at the chair behind it. It looked as though the ship was under heavy fire, panels were hanging off the walls and sparks were flying out of disguised consoles.
A man with slightly green tinged skin and a mop of unruly black hair stumbled into the seat, collapsing onto it quite dramatically. He stared into the camera with bulging eyes and an open mouth.
“This is it, we’re doomed. The constitution’s taken out all the lower decks…only a matter of time now…they’re not even taking on prisoners. We’re all dead.” He paused and grabbed onto the desk as the faint sound of an explosion rattled in the background. “They’re firing on us. All the pods are gone. They’re firing on us…mayday, mayday…”
At that point the screen went blank, cutting back to white noise for a second before it disappeared completely. The whole bridge was silent.
“Well, that explains the debris then. A pirate ship from the look of that chap.” Said Ephram in a matter-of-fact tone. still there was silence. Pirate ship or not, that had not been nice to watch. Cold hearted as she was, Saskia was one of the first to go back to work.
“Sir, I think I’ve got the ion trail. Its quite faint, but…I think that’s it.” She stated blandly, directing her findings to the viewscreen so that all could see.
“Looks like its heading for the Colony…” Ephram stated.
“Apparently so. Looks like it left the nebula, sixteen hours and fifty two minutes ago. Right about the time that pirate ship was destroyed.” Relayed Captain Voran, who was hovering over the science station with his first officer.
“Alright then, I guess its decided. We head for the colony.” Ephram said less then decisively.
“Sorry to interrupt Captain…” Sentelek started, “But that information strikes me as odd.”
“How so?” Saskia asked, intrigued.
“Your computers put the time of the recording…twenty three hours and sixteen minutes ago. And yet if that is the time that the constitution destroyed the pirate ship, what happened in the next seven hours and twenty four minutes that made the Constitution leave our designated meeting point?”
He had a good point. One that could not be answered while the Constitution was not responding to their communications. Things were slowly getting more and more confused as time went on. The Constitution must have upped sticks for a good reason; they hadn’t even left a note to say where they were going. Their best shot now was to follow the warp trail as far as it was possible, and hope that it would lead them in the right direction.

"The pirates could've taken the Constitution, overpowered the crew of forced them to comply at gunpoint. And let me tell you this, if you're at gunpoint with your life at state, you'll do what they want. Especially if they threaten your loved ones." She stole a glance at Mann, who sat at environmental controls for a while, then glanced directly at Sentelek, who sat at science. "But I suppose a Vulcan would fare much better under such circumstances?"
It came out with a little menace, even though she hadn't meant it to. She tapped the black box which sat on the navigations console for now. "The information in here will lead us. We'll get your crew back Captain Adams, and that is a promise."

Ephrem looked at his officers and their guest. Things had infact become very complicated. What he had just seen made him very worried, which was shared by the rest of the crew.
"Ensign, I want that recording to be verified with a fine tooth comb," Ephrem said sensing that his newest officer had a point. Like she had explained things weren't adding up, but then again they couldn't wait there any longer. They had to reach the colony soon.
"Ok, for now we are going to assume that the pirates are in control of the Constitution," Ephrem said," I agree with the ensign about the recording, but we will still have to doublecheck. As of right now we will under silent red alert. Like my chief says Captain, we will get your ship back to you."
"I have no doubt, but we must stop those pirates," Elaurs responded," I'm pretty sure that the colony was indeed attacked by a Starfleet ship, mine."

OOC: Sadly Captain Voran has resigned due to personal reason's in real life. I'm sorry to see him go, but hope that in the future he will be able to join us again someday. For now I will NPC him. The other characters can be npc'd as well, but please do not kill them.

"We'll see about that when we get there," Mira grumbled under her breath, as she laid in the course towards the colony. She took the ship into a series of dives and spins before sheepishly looking up. "Just testing the controls sir," she added with a grin, pleased to find the security chief looking somewhat pale around the nose.
The Vulcan, Sentelek, looked rather annoyed and but the only one echoing her grin was Mann. The young doctor generally knew how frustrated Mira felt when there was a lack of proper action and also knew the teenager could act rather impulsively at times. Like now.
"Course laid in," Mira spoke up after a long silence, "and the Constitution's warp trail seems indeed to be leading towards the colony." She locked gazes with Voran. "That doesn't mean it was your ship who attacked them. They could've simply followed an enemy there, after which they just plainly disappeared."
Mira knew it was idle reasoning, but she wasn't about to crush the older man's hopes of relocating his ship intact. Her gaze locked with Santos'. "Permission to leave the bridge for a few minutes? There's something at navigational control that I'd like to take a look at. Perhaps Mr Sentelek would appreciate to join me?"

Ephrem couldn't help, but give Mira a dissaproving look. He understood how she felt, but this wasn't the time or place. In fact, he wish he could be more like her at times.
He was about to say something to her, but stopped once he heard her speak to Captain Voran. He couldn't help but be surprise by his navigations officer. One moment she was nothing more than a bored kid, the next she was a caring indivual who tried to comfort a fellow officer.
The fact that the warp trail continued to lead towards the colony was not very encourageable. He was almost positive that the Constitution was now under the control of pirates.
"Permission to leave the bridge for a few minutes? There's something at navigational control that I'd like to take a look at. Perhaps Mr Sentelek would appreciate to join me?"
"Permission granted," Ephrem said as he then turned his attention to the Vulcan officer," Mr. Sentelek, it's your choice. Though I would be grateful if you could give my nagivation officer some of your countless years of experience."
"I don't know if that will be possible, Captain," Sentelek responded," your Navigations officer seems more than adequate her post, but I wil do my best to help her."
Ephrem couldn't help but smile at the Vulcan's response. It was Vulcanish, but he couldn't help but think that he was joking.
"That's high praise, Commander," Ephrem said," I'm sure that my Chief appreciates the compliment."

John felt like a third wheel. There was nothing like a second captain to make an executive officer feel useless, and as it was John's first time to be on the Bridge, he felt even more insignificant and generally not needed. That wasn't to say things were not interesting. He had rarely gotten to spend more than two minutes in a row on the Bridge of any ship, and he was consequentially unfamiliar with some of what went on. He'd read most of the manuals at the Academy describing what roles various Bridge officers played, just like any other cadet. But there were some things the manuals didn't teach very well. For example, emergency surgury was simply impossible to read about. John had watched many, many real situations and practice demonstrations before he had even been able to run through a practice scenario himself. Most medical proceedures stayed true to the books, but there were always shortcuts people like Dr. Kwani knew that John was ignorant of. And on the Bridge, John noticed that some officers were much less tense and formal than others.
It was unusual for John to form lasting opinions of people before he got to know them. He suffered from the same problem that every other human being did, of course: assuming his first impression of someone was an accurate basis for their entire character. But because he knew he was flawed, John was almost always able to keep an open mind when meeting new people. Yet the new security chief - Saskita? John wasn't sure of her name - was definitely someone John did not like. Her chill refusal of Mira's friendship had not gone unnoticed by the young doctor, and her continued holier-than-thou-art attitude was not something John enjoyed being around.
Mira's flying was a welcome disturbance of the relatively formal status that was rampant on the Bridge, and John grinned. Most of the other officers didn't seem to appreciate the slightly turbulent flying, and yet somehow John failed to feel any sympathy for officers who couldn't enjoy a joke... especially if the new security officer was discomforted.

"We need to get out of here," a man said manning the ships comm system. The technology on the ship was not impressive, but it would do the job. They needed to find a cure before it was to late.
"We cannot turn back now," Luxor responded," we destroyed the colony to get there attention. Two ships is better than one. We have been looking for a long time. We have raided countless of ships looking for it and we have yet to find the cure. With two Federation ships we will greatly increase our chances."
"I know, but we weren't meant to kill others," Jamus responded," we once were a peaceful society. We never took hoast without permission."
"That's enough, my sensors show that another ship is approaching," Luxor said saddened that it indeed had to come to this. If it came to it, he would kill most of them. He didn't need many to complete with his mission. "Jamus if you ever question our orders I will make your host suffer a most painful death. Which I'm sure will cause you great pain in the process."

Mira made a slight detour past John's station, lightly caressing his cheek as she walked by. "Dinner, 1900 hours," she whispered, before joining Sentelek in the turbolift. She had wanted to check something at navigational control, but once they got there, she glanced up at the older Vulcan, somewhat sheepishly. "Now we're here, I can't remember what we're here for," she murmured, as she started pacing around.
Then she snapped her fingers, grabbed the Vulcan's hand and pulled him along. "That was it!" she exclaimed enthusiastically. "I was thinking of a way to increase maneuverability, and reduce the time it takes between entering a command and the computer responding to the command given. Personally, I'm very good at manual flying, but even I need a few seconds before any dodges are computed. Even automatic flying takes a few seconds....what we need is something that reduces this time needed."
Mira pointed at a computer console. "We're just needing to realign this element here, it seems to be skewered in place somewhat."
The Vulcan peered at the element the youngster was pointing at, then reached to realign it. Somewhat startled, he glanced down at the girl as she slapped his hand away. "I was about to correct your problem miss Green," he said coldly.
"I know that," Mira responded, "and you were going to get yourself fried in the process. There's a forcefield of some sort surrounding that element, and I hadn't shut it down yet." A low hum was audible as both fell quiet, upon which Mira now made her point. "There, now it's deactivated. And I was hoping indeed that you would be able to correct this problem. I am hardly an engineer."
"Indeed," Sentelek responded as he reached out again, and this time could work uninterrupted. "You are a competent pilot, but also a rash young girl." A second later, the Vulcan stood blinking and rubbing his jaw in surprise.
Mira stood before him, seething in anger. "I am not a rash young girl," she scowled, "I am eighteen years old and I have earned my position through hard work and competence. I have been flying vessels since I was old enough to reach the controls. Now, if you have this problem fixed, we should return to the bridge. I am needed at the helm." Without another word, she turned her back on the Vulcan, fully aware that she had just struck a senior officer.
She was halfway up to the bridge when suddenly the turbolift car shook violently, slamming her hard into the side of the car. Dazed, she fell onto her knees, rubbing her left shoulder. "I am just too accident prone," she murmured. Thankfully the car arrived at the bridge as it was supposed to and she stumbled out. "Are we under attack?"
Her question was needless, as the ship shook violently again. On the viewscreen a Constitution class vessel was looming up. Another volley threw Mira down onto the deck and damage reports were coming in from all over the ship. "Navigational control," Mira breathed as she caught the report, "oh no! Commander Sentelek is still down there!" She glanced at Adams in horror, as she still half-crouched on the deck.

Without Mira's playful attitude on the bridge things became all the more serious. If you needed to speak it was in a whisper only. Captain Voran was giving out instructions to the bridge crew and Ephrem could only watch as his command was being underminded. He hated to admit it, but there was some relief in the fact that Voran was taking over. He knew it wasn't intentional, but Voran's command skills were tested and proven. When the science officer gave his report, Voran answered before Ephrem could. It was an akward moment, but one that showed how inept Ephrem was at the moment.
"Captain, I'm sorry," Voran said.
"No problem, Captain, I know this is like second nature to you," Ephrem said trying to act like nothing had just happened.
"Captain we are approaching the colony, sensors show a Starfleet vessel in orbit," Barbara reported," I'm pretty sure its the Constitution."
"Are there weapons online?" Ephrem asked.
"The sensors are inconclusive, the nebula is interfering with them," Barbara answered. The next thing he knew, the bridge rocked as phaser fire found its mark.
"Return fire, I want that ship disabled," Ephrem ordered as the ship shook vilonetly again," damage report!"
"Decks 3, 6, 12, 13 report heavy damage, navigational control took damage, 32 injuried, 3 serious."
"Navigational control," Mira breathed as she caught the report, "oh no! Commander Sentelek is still down there!" She glanced at Adams in horror, as she still half-crouched on the deck.
~Damn~ Ephrem said to himself Commander Sentelek was an irreplaceable officer. They needed to do everything in there power to save him.
"Mira, John make sure he's okay. Once you find him go to sickbay and help the wounded," Ephrem ordered," Ensign Logan, I want that ship disabled now!"

"Aye, aye, Captain," replied John, walking briskly toward the turbolift where Mira waited. Once he was inside the car traveled downward swiftly. The ship shuttered slightly, but the turbolift remained steady in its path. It occured to John that dinner might need to be postponed.
Once the turbolift doors had opened both officers jogged toward where Commander Sentelek must be, Mira leading the way. As they rounded a turn in the corridor the Commander could be seen, green blood pooled around him. John didn't move him as he bent down to inspect the wounded officer. If the Vulcan had sustained head or neck injuries, moving the patient could have fatal consequences. There was a pulse, and upon closer inspection it appeared the blood did not originate primarily from the Vulcan's chest, as John had assumed, but rather from his right arm, which was crumped underneath the rest of the Vulcan's body.
"John," said Mira, touching his shoulder, "I think we should move him. Now." It was then that John looked up to take in his surroundings and noticed that a large chunk of the ceiling was hanging by... well, John would have liked to call it a thread, but it seemed the laws of physics had been negated. Part of the ceiling was going to fall at any time, and it was right above the wounded, unconcious Vulcan. John made a command decision and struggled to pick up the man. Mira was right: a head or neck injury was relatively meaningless after a large chunk of metal buried itself in one's chest. Mira aided in carrying the Vulcan to the turbolift.
Once they were inside, Mira started to say something and then stopped. John was busy examining Sentelek's battered and bloodied arm, but he noticed Mira's hesitation and stopped worrying about the Vulcan for a moment. "What is it?" he asked
"I... I hit him," she said simply.
"What?" asked John, not understanding. "What do you mean?" He looked at Sentelek again and noticed a faint bruise beginning to flourish on the Vulcan's chin. It seemed slightly amusing, in an odd sort of way, but present circumstances made humor bleak and distant. "Why?" asked John, looking back at Mira.

Mira shrugged though her expression was still horrified. "He called me a rash young girl," she scowled as the two of them lifted the unconscious Vulcan between them. Together they pulled him out of the damaged areay and into the corridor, where there was fresh air. "But I didn't knock him out," she continued, "you have my word on that. He was very much conscious when I left him, and he never gave a response when I struck him either."
She shrugged again. "I don't know why I struck him, I guess he just annoyed me with that statement, even though perhaps compared to him I might be young indeed. Do we need to get him to sickbay? He's staying out of it rather long don't you think? I really think we should get him to sickbay John..."
(Mann)
Mira left Mann to deal with Sentelek for now while she walked over to the nearest communicator. "Green to bridge, we've found Commander Sentelek. He's still alive just unconscious and we're taking him to sickbay now."

“Ensign Logan, I want that ship disabled now!" Ephrem ordered, practically yelling at her. That was going to be easier said than done, not that she wasn’t perfectly capable of performing such a task. The ‘pirate’ ship admittedly had rather an advantage: it had already taken several large chunks out of their shields, figuratively speaking. There was only one way to remedy that – by doing exactly the same to theirs. There was something almost satisfyingly sadistic about targeting Captain Vorans brand-spanking new Constitution with the man standing only metres away from her. Add the mental image of Mira Green’s face to top it all off and the other side weren’t going to know what had hit them.
She wasted no time. “Phasers locked on Sir, firing now.” The tiny charged bolts of light rallied towards the constitution, chewing their way through their powerful shields. Saskia was relentless, firing wave upon wave of energy weapon into the same spot, tearing apart their shields.
The onslaught was returned, but the Excalibur was holding up. Her crew were experienced Starfleet officers, the pirates fighting them were not. Voran’s Constitution may have had more firepower, but they were proving no match for Santos’ crew. Saskia lep rip a final entourage, bearing through the ships shields and blasting through the outer hull. The phasers smashed through the severed levels of the ship, onwards and inwards with every stroke. Logan held her stance, single-mindedly firing for all she was worth.
“Cease fire.” From somewhere in the distance Ephrem gave the order. It didn’t seem to matter now. She had broken through the Constitutions shields. They were going to be ripped apart.
“Ensign, cease fire now.” The Captain ordered, louder this time and more urgent. Saskia tore her hand from the console. The Captain gave her a hard stare. “Thank you. Please accompany me to the transporter room Ensign. Its time we put a stop to this.”
The Captain quickly swept up from his chair, and Saskia fell into step behind him. Ephrem reeled off orders in his wake; security team to the transporter room; John Mann to the bridge...Saskia hoped the security team were up to scratch. She hadn’t even had time to brief them, what with one thing and another. She had never expected to be going into a combat situation so soon. Nevertheless, she was adaptable, she just hoped that they were as well.
When they arrived in the transporter room, the team was already assembled. The confident looking head stepped forwards and handed both Saskia and the Captain a phaser. The security officer checked it over with her keen eye before looking back to the man that had handed it to her.
“Name.” She barked.
“Sergeant Conway Ma’am.” He replied.
“You in charge of this unit?” She asked bluntly.
“Yes Ma’am.” He said with a nod.
Saskia walked past him and stepped up onto the pad. “Well now I am in charge Mr. Conway. Make sure your men do as they are told.” The security team scurried up onto the pad behind her and Ephrem gave the order to transport. The group that was well into double figures re-materialised inside the bowels of the opposing Constitution. It appeared to be in a state of disarray. Claxons were sounding, lights flashing, and smoke was rising from various shorted consoles. The corridors fortunately were empty, but Saskia doubted they would be for long.
“Ok, team A you’re with me.” Ephrem ordered, beckoning the first band of troops to follow him down the left passageway. Saskia gave what was left of the men a callous look before turning her nose up.
“I guess that means we’re going this way boys.” She commented, giving the Captain a last look of ‘good luck’ before they disappeared in opposite directions. This was show-time.

Mira shrugged though her expression was still horrified. "He called me a rash young girl," she scowled as the two of them lifted the unconscious Vulcan between them. Together they pulled him out of the damaged area and into the corridor, where there was fresh air. "But I didn't knock him out," she continued, "you have my word on that. He was very much conscious when I left him, and he never gave a response when I struck him either." She shrugged again. "I don't know why I struck him, I guess he just annoyed me with that statement, even though perhaps compared to him I might be young indeed. Do we need to get him to sickbay? He's staying out of it rather long don't you think? I really think we should get him to sickbay John..."
"Yes, but his wounds seem to be relatively minor. I'm betting on a concussion. If its anything worse..." He shrugged. "I'm going to check for any head injuries before we move him further, just to be safe."
While Mira contacted the Bridge, John scanned the Vulcan more specifically and thoroughly with his tricorder. Sentelek appeared to have sustained no real injuries to his head, although he must have if he were unconcious. John checked his neck, but everything seemed fine there as well, so he proceeded to heft Sentelek up. Mira, finished with her conversation, helped John get him down the corridor to Sickbay. "He'll be fine," John assured Mira. "I'm not sure why he's unconcious, but it isn't a lasting effect."
Sickbay was very orderly, and given the present circumstances, it was relatively empty. Wundt was managing well enough, but relief was evident in his face when John arrived. "We got a couple engineers who were working in a cramped area," he said grimly. "Both have neck injuries, and some idiot tried to move one of them before the CEO got him to stop. I sedated them to keep them from injuring themselves. One of our own nurses fractured her arm in three places when a bunch of supplies fell on top of her, and there are several other, minor injuries, twenty of which had been taken care of and sent on their way. And, um... we lost somebody."
"What?" asked John, not sure he had heard correctly.
Wundt looked at his shoes uncomfortably. "Ensign Samuel Faulkner. He was crushed by a torpedoe that got knocked loose. All of his ribs were broken when two officers who had been near him brought him in. Punctured lungs, massive... lots of blood." The nurse looked sick, and John's eyes wandered toward a white-red blanket covering what could only be the remains of Ensign Faulkner. If the sight had made Wundt queasy, it wasn't something anyone should be looking at. The nurse had nerves of steel.
John coughed and tried to get focused again. "Commander Sentelek was wounded. Get someone to work on his arm while I find out what rendered him unconcious," he ordered, trying not to look at the blanket in the corner.
"Aye, sir," replied Wundt without energy, glad to have something to do and someone else in charge.
"Can you lend a hand, Mira, or are you needed elsewhere?" asked John.

Mira cast her boyfriend a guilty glance. "I should go back to the bridge really, but I want to help..." She glanced down at the unconscious Vulcan. "I know how to set a bone," she offered, looking at Wundt who was still looking a little green in the face, "and I can keep an eye on him while you go on looking after other wounded. I'm sure Santos will understand my absence..."
She dabbed a damp cloth on the Vulcan's face, gently wiping off the blood, then focussed on his broken arm. Giving it one swift yank, she quickly set the bone, then probed the limb to see whether she'd done it right. Satisfied with the result, she continued to apply a a cast, which was the only way she knew how to treat broken limbs. She was certain Mann would redo it if he thought she'd done it wrong somehow.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, still feeling guilty, "I shouldn't have lost my temper. It just proved your point." She finished applying the cast, then continued to clean the blood off him. "Just get better soon and we'll have a talk about this...I'll be found on the bridge."
With a final glance at Sentelek, she kissed Mann goodbye and headed back to the bridge. "Commander Sentelek will survive," she reported as she slid back into her seat, "his injuries were minor, and he's just unconscious."

With John in sickbay and no other suitable canidate, Ephrem asked Captain Voran to command the ship while he was gone. This didn't go unheard by the bridge crew, but Ephrem decided that there was no time to waste.
"Captain, please keep my crew safe," Ephrem said as the doors to the turbolift opened. He breifly looked at the young ensign next to him. She had a bright future ahead of her, she just had to become more of a team player.
"Ensign, I know this a lot of responsibility on your shoulders, but you'll do fine," Ephrem said as he exited the lift and was ushered into the weapon's locker. He had been in these situations before, but never as captain.
"Jennings your team is with me," Ephrem said," the layout is like every Constitution. I don't know who we're going to meet, but I want you to fight like hell."
The two teams assembled at the transporter pad and waited for the order. Eprehm gave the order and the next moment he found himself on the Constitution, where the claxons were raging.
"Jennings, you and I will be point, you two follow," Ephrem said," fire first ask questions later."
Ephrem quickly went down the cooridor hoping that he wouldn't meet any resistance. His target was the bridge, which should be heavily guarded. When he reached a nearby lift he was dissapointed to see that it was offline. The Excalibur's weapons must have taken them out in the fire fight.
"Captain, there is a jefferies tube about thirty meters ahea.....," the sgt. said before he took cover. It seemed that the internal sensors were working just fine.
"Jennings, come with me, we need to take out internal sensors. We cannot let them know where we are. "The rest of you keep them at bay."
With that last order, Ephrem left his team and hoped that Logan's was fairing better than him at the moment.

"Thanks," said John, eyeing Wundt, who seemed waiting for instructions. "I'll be back after I take a look at the worst cases."
He followed Wundt to two beds where the engineers lay. A quick check found one was already well on his way to recovery, the result of quick action of Wundt's part. But the other was going to take a long time to recover, and was in risk of paralysis. "Get Ben working on this," ordered John, meaning the neurospecialist. "Where is he, anyway?"
"He's working on his wife," replied Wundt. "She's the assistant communications offiicer, and her ear got bloodied. It shouldn't take long for him to finish up."
"Go help him finish up," instructed John. "I'll be back with Sentelek." Wundt nodded and walked away hastily.
John returned to find Mira nearly finished with applying a cast to Sentelek. Having already attempted to discover the reason for Sentelek's lack of conciousness with a medical tricorder, it was time to draw blood. Mira kissed John before she hurried away, and John momentarily wished Sickbay wasn't so far removed from the rest of the senior staff. There was a good reason to try and become an executive officer...
Time to focus on the task at hand. After drawing Sentelek's blood and failing to discover any alien substances, John was ready to give up. The Vulcan should have been awake. Unless he had decided to take a nap, there was no reason for him to be in such a state.
"Dr. Mann, Kylee's arm is in a bad way," said a nurse. "I think we'll need your help."
"In a minute," muttered John. "Go tell Ben Navidomskis to get over here as soon as he's finished with that engineer. This Vulcan is driving me insane."
"Ben says he'll be stuck there for at least three hours, doctor. He found microfissures in two vertebrae and internal bleeding in the man's chest," said the nurse. "He and Wundt are both tied up there, and we need you with Kylee."
John took a deep, calming breath. At least Mira had bought him some time to get Ben started on the engineer. "All right. I'll be there in two minutes. Get me a full report on her arm and prep a surgery table."
"Yes, doctor," replied the nurse, turning away.
John scanned the Vulcan once more, without any success. Sentelek abruptly opened his eyes, and John jumped almost a foot into the air. "Commander! I... are you all right?"
"I believe so," Sentelek replied.
"Hold on." The doctor helped the Vulcan to his feet. "I don't know what rendered you unconcious," said John. "Your head seems fine."
"I remember falling against a wall," said the Vulcan.
John shook his head. "I can't believe you hit it hard enough to knock yourself out for so long without recieving at least a minor concussion, although Vulcans can take a lot more physical damage than humans." John tough for a moment. "You're off-duty for the next twenty hours, Commander. I'll send someone to your quarters to get you for a check-up once I'm finished here."
The Vulcan might have been prepared to argue, but with a cast on his arm (which, to John's satisfaction, had been well set by Mira) he wasn't going to be of much help. He nodded, gave his thanks, and departed. John sighed and headed for where Kylee Christiansen lay with a mangled arm and two nurses already standing by her. It was going to be a long, long day.

Back on the bridge, Mira did her best to ignore Logan and Voran even more so. She still felt embarassed about hitting the Vulcan science officer, but there was nothing more she could do about it now except wait for Sentelek to get back on duty.
From her seat at the navigations console, she kept an eye on the main viewscreen, which showed the Constitution in all her glory. She occasionally had to adjust their course to keep astern to the sister ship, but not by much. Resting her face on her hands, she kept staring at the main viewscreen, her eyes unfocussing on the other ship as she kept staring.
The sound of phaser fire startled her from her daydreaming and she whirling around, reaching for her own phaser. She ducked under her console for cover, pulling out her communicator and flipping it open. "Green to Santos!" she cried, firing a blind shot, "we're boarded!"
She crawled from under her console to take cover behind it, while spying the bridge for Captain Adams. "Captain Adams!" she called, "where are you?" She hoped dearly he hadn't been shot. "Logan!" she tried, "Logan what did you do?"
Mira changed the frequency on her communicator, so that sickbay was now on the dial, able to listen in on the happenings on the bridge. "John, get us some help up here," she called, just when the communicator was yanked from her hand.
Strong hands pulled her to her feet and she struggled with all her might, a smug grin on her face when she heard a grunt of pain behind her. Before her, Adams was restrained by two men, while Logan was held at gun point by a skinny, pale-skinned woman with short cropped black hair. As she turned her head, she was staring into the barrel of a phaser held by a black-skinned man who had a dark scowl on his face. "This ship is now under our control missy," he snapped, "and you'll fly us out of here."
Mira spat in his face in response, then glanced at Voran for instructions. She hoped her call to sickbay had gone through before her communicator had been taken. "Not without direct order from my captain," Mira answered fiercely, "and he'll not give the order."

Kylee's arm lay in pieces. John had had no option but to open it up and clear the area of internal bleeding and miniscule bone fragments too small to be put back together. That alone had taken the better part of half an hour. After the arm had been cleaned internally, John had set the bone fragments back where they belonged. It was tedious and dangerous work, getting the bone exactly where it was supposed to be. Blood continually had to be cleared away from the bone as one of the nurses welded the bone together with a special, temporary bio-foam. Another intense twenty minutes later, John began to close up the arm again. Kylee would take almost a year to recover something close to full movement, and a long, ugly scar would been a flagrant mark on her pale skin for the rest of her life. It sure beat amputation.
As John finished closing up the arm, a voice broke through the speakers, destroying the doctor's concentration. =^=John, get us some help up here.=^= Violent sounds, possibly a phaser burst, echoed distantly before the communication was terminated. All work in Sickbay stopped for a moment before Wundt and Ben resumed what they were doing. The rest of the nurses looked at John.
He looked down at the nearly finished operation and handed his tools to one of the nurses. "Finish up here," he instructed. Then he pointed to an engineer who had bruised himself, been quickly healed, and was on his way out. "You. Get down to engineering and tell the CEO to arm everyone in there. After that, get people inside all transporter rooms and lock them. It appears the Bridge has been taken, and we can't allow any more enemy personnel on board if at all possible." John bit his lip and thought for a moment as the engineer hurried away. His staff was getting exhausted from the stress some of the injuries had brought in, and there would be more to follow. With two of his top nurses working on the critically injured engineer and most of the others engages in more minor concerns, John couldn't hope to spare any for an assault on the Bridge. But there was someone he could ask for help. He left Sickbay without another word and headed for a turbolift.
**************************************************
Petty Officer Third Class Brian Meldova paced furiously in his small quarters. There was no good reason why he couldn't be allowed to go back on duty. He was by far the best asset any security chief could ask for. It was not with arrogance that he thought this. It was a simple fact that the human giant could react with uncanny speed, was incredibly accurate with any weapon, and had endurance uncontested by most Vulcans. Yet Doctor Mann, in his infinite wisdom, had declared him unfit for duty because one of his hands had been broken in a training exercise and the doctor didn't want him refracturing the bone. Meldova scoffed at the pathetic excuse to keep him away from an important battle. The doctor apparently didn't understand what was-
Speak of the devil. The doors to his quarters swished open as Dr. Mann stepped through. "Doctor," said Meldova, putting on his best face. "Come to let me off the hook?"
John nodded. Meldova was surprised to note his phaser was already unholstered. "Get everything you've got, Meldova. We are going to take back the Bridge."
"The Bridge?" asked Meldova, faintly shocked. "How'd we lose that?"
"I'm a doctor, not a tactician," snapped John. "And I'm definitely not a soldier, which is why you're officially no longer off-duty. Come on. Every second we waste here is another the enemy has to lock down our ship."
****************************************************
On the Bridge the ship Logan had pounded with weapons fire slowly drifted away from the Excalibur. Whether Santos and Logan had taken custody of it mattered little. One of the intruders stood at Logan's station, targeting the ship with phasers. Adams, Voran, and Mira had little options available while being held at gunpoint. It seemed the recently promoted Santos was doomed... until the turbolift doors opened. The intruders fired into the turbolift, but Meldova was simply too fast to be hit. A combat knife flew through the air and buried itself in the chest of the intruder at Logan's station. A second knife found its make, followed by a phaser blast that relieved someone's shoulder's of their head. John cautiously poked his head out of the turbolift and saw Mira take down a black-skinned intruder, who had apparently assumed she would not be so bold as to attack him while he addressed the new threat that was Meldova. He was horribly wrong, and with practiced ease Mira relieved the man of his weapon and threw him against the nearest wall. Blood oozed from the man's head and he did not get up, although his eyelids fluttered and his fingers twitched.
By the time John was able to fully take in his surroundings, Meldova had eliminated nearly every hostile. One intruder crouched behind Adams, his phaser pointed at the man's head. Meldova and Mira were unable to fire at him, due to his proximity to Adams. But John had a clear shot as hit back. He fired his phaser on stun and the man slumped to the ground.
*************************************************
In Sickbay, Wundt had taken charge once more, though he was irratible and unsure of himself. Most of the nurses had finished up with their work and were standing by to assist Ben Navidomskis. Wundt had found small relief in a cup of coffee. His comfort was cur short when an univited guest entered Sickbay. A phaser beam shot toward the head nursed, blasted apart the coffee cup he held, and knocked him to the ground. He didn't move, and blood stained his uniform.
"Lock the doors," said the man with the phaser. None of the nurses moved for a moment, and then one hastily did as commanded. The only sound was Ben's continuing work. The intruder took a seat and watched the medical staff warily. "Leave him," he instructed when one nurse bent toward Wundt. "He is an example of what will happen to anyone who doesn't obey me. For now, sit tight and keep your heads down."

Mira gave the doctor a thumbs-up as they retook control of the bridge. Somewhat proudly she started pulling the woman who had held her at gunpoint towards the port side of the bridge, securely tying her up with a piece of spare wiring from a vacant and unused console. She grinned at Adams, who grinned right back at her as she worked on tying up the remaining terrorists.
However, Mira was not as cold-hearted as she could seem in the heat of battle and she motioned Mann towards the injured man. "Terrorist or not, he's no good to us dead," she commented, while summoning Logan's security men to the bridge, to take their prisoners down to the brig.
"Captain Adams, perhaps now is a good idea to contact Captain Santos and let him know we've had some serious trouble?" Mira commented innocently, as she darted towards the turbolift which revealed a haggard looking Vulcan commander. "Commander Sentelek," she breathed, "may I assist you?"
Sentelek, his arm still held firm in the cast and stabilised by the sling, nodded and accepted the youth's help towards the science station. He found it rather illogical that she wanted to help, but he was starting to understand the feeling of guilt he sensed from her while her fingers curled around his hand, supporting him while he walked. He was about to tell her that there was no logic in feeling guilty over something she had no control over when she silenced him.
"I'm very sorry that I struck you down," Mira spoke softly, finding a sudden interest in the console beside them, "you were right to call me young and rash. My actions showed just that." Then her gaze met his, her eyes showing a fierceness he'd never seen before in a human female. "But my job is all I have, all I am. And I'm very good at it, otherwise I wouldn't be here. And I'm growing tired of being treated like a delicate child. Ensign Logan treats me like dirt, as if being enlisted is something less than being an officer. I've proven my worth to four different captains now, even before she came aboard. I know several forms of martial arts, and Captain James..."
Her voice broke as she mentioned him and she sighed. "Never mind," she murmured as she returned to her station, sighing again as she felt John's comforting hands on her shoulders. "I'll never be seen as a ful member of this crew," she whispered, staring at the main viewscreen. "I wonder how Captain Santos is faring..."

As he gave it a second thought, Ephrem regretted ordering his people to board the Constitution. He had been pinned down by phaser fire for the last ten minutes, it seemed that they knew what he was planning. Even though the ship shared the same specs as the Excalibur, the pirates had made sure to block all vital access ports.
"Corporal do you still have a grenade on you?" Ephrem asked as he began to tinker with his own weapon. This would never end if they continued to exchange fire. He would need to do something that they wouldn't expect and he needed to do it now. He had already gotten reports of injuries and a pirate boarding party on the his ship.
"Yes sir, though it will not do much good," the corporal answered.
"Well I can give it a little punch," Ephrem said as he caught the grenade. The grenade itself only had a yield of a few meters, but if he did his calculations correctly he would be able to to increase the explosion ten fold. "Corporal lead our men out of here."
"Captain, what about you?"
"I'll be right behind you," Ephrem said as he attacked his phaser to the grenade by tyeing them together using pieces of his torn uniform. Once he saw that his men were moving, Ephrem through the grenade in the enemy stronghold and immediately began to run.
Even though he had been prepared for it, he hadn't been able to move fast enough as the force of the explosion caught up to him and through him towards the corridor wall. Ephrem immediately felt the pain course through his body, but at that moment that was a good thing. It meant that there wasn't severe nerve damage.
After a few seconds of nothing, Ephrem propped himself up gingerly. He turned around to see bodies scattered on the floor. He knew they were dead, but something was very odd about them. As he got closer he saw another being struggling beside them. To him it looked like an over sized worm. It didn't take for the thing to stop struggling which prompted Ephrem to get moving.
"Captain are you okay!" the Corporal yelled down the corridor.
"Take your team and help out in main engineering," Ephrem ordered," I and Jennings will take out the internal sensors and head towards the bridge."
"Understood," the corporal responded as Jennings ran pass him to join Ephrem.
"Sir," Jennings said as he handed Ephrem a new weapon," internal sensors are down that way."
"Alright," Ephrem said as he made his way towards the sensors making sure not to disrespect the dead by messing with there bodies.
........................
"What the hell just happened?" Luxor asked angrily.
"They have just taken out our internal sensors and a major explosion happened on Deck 5," Jamus reported clearly rethinking there leaders choices. They were a dieing race and each death meant they were that closer to extinction. They should flee in shuttles and get as far away from Starfleet as possible.
"What about our teams in engineering?" Luxor asked.
"I don't know, we don't have any sensors at all," Jamus reported," for all we know we have lost it to the away team."
"Do we still have transporters?" Luxor asked. seething now.
"Yes," Jamus responded.
"Get our teams back here, we need to take control of this situation," Luxor said as he walked out of the bridge weapon in hand."

Just a few seconds after Luxor had given the order, Excalibur's intruders vanished without a trace, startling the bridge officers of the Federation vessel. "Hey!" Mira called, jumping up from her seat thereby nearly knocking Doctor Mann over.
She caught him by his arm before he could stumble over his own feet and steading him while she whirled towards the security officer. "Logan where are they!" she yelled at the woman, ignoring Adams' annoyed glance in her direction.
When the security chief didn't respond, Mira bodily shoved her aside, not caring what the repercussions for that action might be. "They've beamed off," she reported, "but I can't determine where to. It looks as though they beamed to the Constitution, but it more looks like they beamed right into space. I can't pinpoint their location."
The teenager glanced over at the acting science chief. "Commander Sentelek are you reading anything?" she asked, watching the Vulcan work as best as he could with just one hand at his disposal.

Without any warning, the captured intruders vanished without a trace, startling the bridge officers of the Federation vessel. "Hey!" Mira called, jumping up from her seat thereby nearly knocking Doctor Mann over. He tried to stabilize himself but failed, falling toward the ground. Mira caught him by his arm before he could stumble over his own feet and steadied him while she whirled towards the security officer. The disappearance of the enemy caused many on the bridge to jump up in joy, but not the Constitution's first officer, Sentelek. He would have preferred less emotion from his counterparts, but he understood there need to express them. He just wished that they would do it in a more orderly fashion. While people were asking themselves what just happened, Sentelek began scanning the ship, the Constitution and the space around both ships. It wasn't easy doing it with only one good hand, but he managed.
"Commander Sentelek are you reading anything?" she asked, watching the Vulcan work as best as he could with just one hand at his disposal.
"They are not on the ship or floating out in space," Sentelek said," I believe it is safe to say that they are now back on the Constitution."
"I believe its time we take it to these people," Voran said as he picked up a phaser," the captain and his teams should be having a hell of time over there. I think we should go take care of business."

-----------------------------
Without the help of lifts it was very hard to make it to the bridge. He had climbed through four decks and he was panting like a dog. Ephrem mentally told himself that he would need to get in better shape when he got back to the ship.
"Captain, I believe that junction over there will lead us the conference room," Jennings said pointing to a small passage way.
"Your right, though it's to small for.....," Ephrem said before he heard the worst sound imaginable. As he turned he saw fear in the face of his crewman. His hand covering the hole caused by weapons fire.
"Jennings!" Ephrem shouted as he jolted to his injured crewmen.
"Stop or I will kill you," Jamus said," your friend here is not dead. I missed his vital organs."
"How would you know that?" Ephrem asked.
"I've taken host to a human body before, my species become intimately familiar with the workings of our home," Jamus explained still holding the phaser at him.
"Why did you attack the colony and what do you mean host?" Ephrem asked wanting to know the reason behind these people's actions.
"You don't need to know, I would have preferred to find willing host but we ran out of time," Jamus said," Luxor and the others decided that we had to find compatible species."
"We'll rather die," Ephrem responded knowing full well that his crew would agree with him. They would never give up there freedom not even to save there life.
"You would rather die than help save a dieing species?" Jamus asked.
"No, I would rather have the choice," Ephrem said.
=^=Jamus we have them cornered. Flood the entire deck with gas and kill them=^=
Ephrem's body jerked as he heard the orders given to the man in front of him. He didn't know how many people this Luxor was talking about, but one was to many in his book. Ephrem would have shot at that moment, but he couldn't risk it. If he missed then they were all dead.
"Please don't do it," Ephrem pleaded," we were protecting our people and citizens of the Federation. Don't kill them, if you must take me, but let my crew go back to my ship."
=^=Jamus respond!=^=
"I'm sorry," Jamus said to Ephrem before responding to the affirmative. He motioned for Ephrem to move along and walk towards the bridge. "I wish they didn't have to die, but we are loosing to many of our people. It's them or us."
"Your people are nothing but heartless [word deleted]!" Ephrem spat anger spuing over him," just kill me now."
"I would rather not do that," Jamus said," hopefully you will be compatible with us."
