There were times in Luke's life that seemed to blur in his thoughts... As he sat in his temporary quarters on Assailant, awaiting whatever orders were sent his way, he thought back to the day that had just passed and to the evening ahead where he was to dine with, of all people, Commander Tras...
5.2 Hours Previously...
Luke looked at the Admiral, not sure what to do next. It appeared that all he had wanted to say had been said but still he made no effort to show this, no sign at all. The two sat in silence for a while, neither seeming to have anything to say before Luke cleared his throat and once more returned his attention from the stars zipping by to the Admiral.
"The war with the Tholians does not go well." He said. "It becomes the start of something much bigger." Luke paused and scratched his head, sweeping strands of loose hair behind his ears.
Admiral Lin remained in silence, Luke did not know how much more to say. He didn't feel like he owed this man anything, but if his words could prevent something terrible from happening in the future...
"I am not sure how the timeline has been altered by my presence here. Nor am I sure how much to inform you of any possible timelines. I do not claim to have an understanding of any such things, only that where we stand today is considerably better off than we should be."
Lin stood to his feet and walked to the back of the Ready Room, allowing Luke to see just how tired this man really was. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
"I believe that will be all for now Captain." He said, not turning around. "Unless you have anything else to add?"
"No, I don't."
"Then we will meet again on Assailant, there are things that need to be discussed concerning a new vessel."
Luke stood up, once more brushed hair from his face and was about to turn to leave before he spoke once again. "In the future that I came from, you were announced missing in action three days before the Federation sealed it's borders. You're last known position was on a vessel sent to meet a Fleet heading towards Earth. That day you succeeded in keeping the wolves at bay. You'll do it again, I am sure of that."
As Luke left a silent Admiral Lin in the Carolina's Ready Room he was approached by Tras. Luke sighed, some days just never got around to ending...
"Captain, I would like to have a word with you. Informally. Would you join me for dinner, I find myself quite hungry as our rescue operation made me miss lunch. I would like for you to tell me how the Scavenger was lost and how you are dealing with it."
Now that he wasn't expecting... What to say in a situation like this was quite beyond the battle worn Captain... So he did the only thing that he thought was acceptable... "That sounds... Pleasant..." He said, genuinely hoping he had managed to summon some sincerity into his words. "Perhaps when we arrive back on Assailant? I believe it's now only a matter of an hour or so?"
"My quarters on the Carolina at say 1900hours then?" Tras asked.
Luke nodded, looked round the Bridge and hurriedly left before he was invited on any other dinner dates. What could the Commander possibly want to discuss. The Scavenger was destroyed. End of discussion.
He rode the Turbolift to Deck 7 where his temporary quarters had been allocated and entered the dark, slightly musty smelling room. He ordered the computer to turn on the lights and sat down heavily in the chair next to the small desk which took up most of the space in the miniature quarters. His thoughts travelled back to the words of Admiral Lin...
"Its hardly surprising. You appear from the future refuse to tell us much. But command cleared you and so you got command of the Scavenger. Too soon by my book to be frank. You have my support but not my trust not yet and the loss of a ship is a serious matter"
"I need you and your experience out there. And lastly don't take this confidence in you as any greater trust, needs must."
The words stung him, not out of self pity or remorse but out of anger. He could not talk of what he had seen, of what the future could hold for the Federation, yet this was being held against him. He knew trust had to be earnt, but how could he earn such trust if those who needed to distribute it were not willing to do so?
The door chime sounded, interupting him. Of course he decided to ignore it, he was in no mood for entertaining. This caused him to shudder thinking of the evening to come... Alone with Tras? What had he been thinking...? The man was clearly a capable officer but someone to spend large amounts of time with? The jury was out on that one. Once more the door chime rang, once more he ignored it. The Admiral's word echoed round his mind still...
"Don't take this confidence in you as any greater trust, needs must."
The doors to the room opened violently and Luke was surprised to see Pride standing there. He had clearly forgotten to lock out the doors to override, he missed his own quarters...
"What is it Commander?" Luke snapped, annoyed at the rough entrance and about the scene on the Bridge earlier.
He listened to the Officer say what he had come to say and didn't interupt while he spoke. When it had appeared that Pride had said all he had wished to say Luke spoke, briefly and to the point.
"If that is all?" He asked. "I have some reports to write." Luke turned away from the stunned Pride and set about accessing what little of the ship he could with a reduced access code.
Commander Pride remained rooted to the spot for a few moments longer before leaving Luke alone. If there was one thing Luke longed for in his crew was trust and loyalty... Which was why Lin's words stung even more...
"Don't take this confidence in you as any greater trust, needs must."
No greater trust... No greater trust... He was right though. There would be no trust between Drago and the Starfleet of this time for quite a while to come. You didn't need to have travelled from the future to realise that...
USS South Carolina - Docked SBA - 1858Hours
Luke briskly walked through the decks of the South Carolina to reach Tras' quarters. He had not really made the effort to change his appearance, the only think different about him was the removal of his uniform to be replaced with casual civi's. Arriving at the Commander's place of residence he pressed the door chime and waited for a response.
"What am I even doing here?" He muttered to himself...

Standing there in the captains cabin in total shock. He didn't say anything only that he had reports to write. Looking at the captain well what did you expect for him to say all is forgiven Mr. Pride. No but maybe just I understand you did what you thought was best for the safety of the ship. Still not to say anything at all was hard he still hadn't answered him if he wanted him to request a transfer.
Pride wasn't going to ask for one that was for sure, but if captain Drago wanted him off the ship then we would go. It would kill him because he like everybody and cared very much for a very special doctor. Still standing there looking at the captain no its more the care I'm falling in Love with Illito and thought of not being on the same ship as her was making him sick. Closing his eyes' a moment he blocked his feelings so he deal with them later.
Looking at the captain for one more moment then speaking up " Computer grant full access to all computer systems with no restricted access." It wasn't much thinking to himself its not like he had command authority but it was better then what he had now. " If you will excuse me captain I wont bug you anymore but I will leave you with this thought a command officer first duty needs to be to the safety of his ship and crew. I hope somewhere down the line you will at least understand what I did"
Walking out of the captains cabin he head for Illito's he could tell they had reached star base already. He felt the ship coming out of warp and slowing down. Right now all he wanted to do was spend some time with Illito. Heading for her quarters he kept thinking about what had just happened and was not happy about it. Although the thought of seeing Illito was starting to make him smile. God she makes me loose control over my emotions so easy but he didn't care.
He found her quarters and rand the door bell. He wasn't going to just barge in on her, no matter how much he wanted to go in and hug her. He heard her say enter and he walked in she looked great no matter what she wore. Although she was still in uniform but he understood that feeling. Walking over to her and looking her in eye's he almost lost him self. She smiled at him like she always knew what he was thinking. Before she could say anything he hugged her and gave her a kiss.
After kissing her he tried to find words " Illito I'm sorry I just I didn't mean to offend you with a kiss but the thought of loosing you scared me. There are so many things I want to tell you about how I feel but I'm not sure how to say them. This is new to me I've never felt this way about anybody before I,I,I boy this is hard" <Tag Illito

Illito grinned when she saw that it had been Pride at the door to her quarters. She had her friends on the ship, but no one she liked seeing more than him. Immediately after Pride kissed her, he started apologizing. “Illito, I'm sorry, I just I didn't mean to offend you with a kiss.”
“You didn't offend me,” Illito said, then let Pride continue.
“But the thought of loosing you scared me. There are so many things I want to tell you about how I feel but I'm not sure how to say them. This is new to me I've never felt this way about anybody before I,I,I boy this is hard.”
“It doesn't have to be,” Illito responded, then leaned forward to kiss Pride again. Just to show that she most definitely had not been offended when he kissed her. And because she liked kissing him.
They finished their embrace and Illito looked around the sparse corridors that were her living space until the Scavenger was replaced. She didn't like these quarters, everything that had meant anything to her had been destroyed when the Scavenger was. Everything except the people, who mattered more than any trinkets she had filled her quarters with had. At least most of the Scavenger's crew had been recovered safely.
Illito shivered slightly, she hadn't yet had a chance to talk to environmental controls about raising the temperature of her room to something more comfortable—at least by Cardassian standards. Which meant that it was currently no more comfortable inside her quarters than outside them, so she reached her hand out to entwine it with Pride's, hoping that he wouldn't mind. “I'm sorry, they're just so unfamiliar,” Illito explained, once they were out in the corridor. She knew it was going to be strange getting to sleep tonight. She may not have slept all that much in quite a while, but she didn't feel tired. “I still feel uneasy, like something else is going to go wrong,” Illito said. “Even though, intellectually, I know we're back docked with Assailant, and we're about as safe as we're going to get. But the Scavenger felt truly safe. And safe things aren't supposed to explode,” she remarked pettily.
They were in the South Carolina hallways now, but neither Pride nor Illito seemed quite sure of where to head. “I'm not entirely sure I want to look at records of my mirror self,” Illito confided, letting some of her earlier doubts through. “Like you said, we're different people, I don't need to understand her.” The smile Illito gave showed her unease just as well as her words did. “Right? So is there anything else you want to do?” she asked.

When Illito kissed him back his pulse started to race is stomach started to do flip flops and his hands started to sweat. When she pulled away he was smiling. There was something very special about her he knew it in his heart and soul.
He didn't mind when she held his hand, he hadn't notice how cool it must be for her on the ship. He had grown up in a desert climate and kept his quarters very warm. Walking out of her cabin holding her hand. Listing to very word she said.
Looking back at her and smiling " Illito its up to you to dig for information nobody else and nobody is going to judge you for that. I dont know if I would want to know about my other self either. I can understand that," Pausing " Yes there is something I want to do"
Walking down the halls of the ship he steered her to the holodeck. " Computer Run Pride program 16" Giving the the computer time to start the program he took of his shoe's hoping Illito wouldn't laught. They walked into the holodeck when the doors open he could feel the heat it was his home world or at least his adoptive one anyway. There was white sand every where and a city in the distance made of white lime stone older then people would ever know. Walking onto the sand opening his senese to fullest he could feel the viberations in the sand when Illito walked in. " This is where I grew up, Thats the city of the winds over there never really knew why it was called that can't ever remember any wind."
" I thought you might want to warm up for a while. I should have raised the temp in your quarters but I was busy with my owne issues I'm sorry". Looking up into the blue sky he saw the 2 suns.
" You know I do understand alot of things some things i feel lost on sometimes. I wonder about my parents at times if they were good people. I have never really bothered to check, I was raised by people who cared and loved me even though I was never there son. I dont ever look like them in the slightest. But that didn't matter I was always treated fairly and with love by everybody." Looking Illito in the eyes and smiling he always felt like she could read him like a book that he couldn't hide anything from her. So why try he thought to himself why try.
" So I never bothered to try and find out I figured why. I was raised with love and taught many things most people can only dream about. My god the things that I have learned are wonderful. I have a understanding of the mind the some vulcans would spend there whole life trying to get to. My life was good but I wondered what other people were like so I joined Star fleet to explore." trying not to look to sad but it was hard for him
" My adpotive parents were so thrilled about that they warned me that some people were not as nice as others. Not all mind you but some would scoff at me and make fun of me because I was differnt. I have to admit for a time I felt very alone until I met you and then I didn't feel so alone anymore. I feel like sometimes I'm a open book to you to read anytime you want. It scared me a little but I also feel like you have never stopped reading me which makes me very happy" <Tag Illito>
" I dont know the future per say the way people understand it. I do know that you can take a moment and make it last for every. That each moment changes the next and the future is never set. It changes and forms and changes again. Time is like water calm one moment waves the next then ripples. If you understand this you can control the moment. Right now I cant think of any place or anything else I would rather do then to be her with you right now."

Katie sat in one of the many restaurants on the promenade deck of the Starbase Assailant and waited for news that the crew of the Scavenger had arrived. She didn’t know what she was going to say to him when she first saw him again. After she left she never wrote, and the letters she had gotten went unanswered. Katie wasn’t happy with her actions but her family needed her and she knew she had to be there for her family first. She just hoped that Pai would understand.
off: Sorry it's short.

His current state of seclusion was not one brought upon himself forcefully. It was one that he was now relishing. In the last few days, Paikea had done something that betrayed everything he stood for. He had killed in cold blood. He knew that he would be dead otherwise, but it didn't help quiet his guilty conscience. On the hand, he had lost his home to something that he didn't completely understand.
The mirror universe was so unlike there own, but he could see some similarities. That thought scared him down to the bone. The counselor of the Carolina had spoken to Pai about his experience, but he stayed quiet. After the fourth session, the counselor finally gave up and sent him to his temporary quarters.
It had taken him a very long time to decorate his quarters. It was a sign of his heritage, interest, career, friends, family, and her. He hadn't thought about Katie in a long time, not since his last letter went unanswered. The only thing he knew was that she was the only person that could help him through this. She had always been there for him through the hard times, but it seemed that she had forgotten ed all about it him.
=^=Apirana to Carolina's Executive Officer=^=
=^=Stone here, what can I do for you?=^=
=^=I was wondering if I could work in one of your science labs. At the moment I have nothing else to do=^=
=^=Science lab 3 is open, Stone out=^=
There was nothing he could do at the moment, so without further thought Paikea decided that he would drown himself in work. Hopefully that would keep the wolves in his head at bay.

The Scavenger's first officer had sat in his quarters on the Carolina staring at a wall for over an hour. He had been reflecting on lost comrades and the events that had led to his current shipless situation. Writing an extensive report for Starfleet Command had given some time to reflect, but there would never be enough time to understand what had happened to the Commander's lost ship and fallen crewmates. An enormous sense of guilt had crept over the young XO. Guilt at having survived when so many young men and women did not...men and women under his and the Captain's command...young men and women that had counted on them for leadership and guidence...that had trusted them with their lives.
Parsons broke his guilt-ridden, self-loathing trance, and reprimanded himself for being so mentally weak. The Commander was trained as a tactical officer and knew he must remain objective and, most of all, sane. He had lost men and women under his command before, both in starship combat and leading tactical assault missions, but never an entire ship.
It was time for Adam to get up and do something. Normally that would be visit the firing range, but the Carolina's weapons had been off limits to the Scavenger crew. Now that the ship was docked with Assailant, Parsons boarded the Starbase and discretely found himself a phaser and a range. An expert marksman, the Commander enjoyed weapons training and soon lost himself in his diversion.

You're not responsible for the temperature of my quarters Illito wanted to say, but didn't, because if she wanted, there was so much more she could say that was more important. But instead she chose to listen to what Pride was saying, because it made sense, and it was fun to listen to him. They had a lot in common, including the like of warm temperatures. And a lot of that made it easier to talk to Pride. And the differences in their lives were what made it such a joy to listen.
He said then that she'd read him like an open book, but that couldn't be true, it was the other way around. Pride was the one who'd captured her heart.
“Right now I cant think of any place or anything else I would rather do then to be her with you right now.”
Illito nodded, then leaned her head against Pride's shoulder. “That sounds good to me too,” she said. Then, because Pride has just shared so much of himself, and because reciprocating gestures of trust was fun, Illito started to talk about her own life.
“I joined Starfleet, like you, after having listened to the objections of my family. Or, at least, my brother. He wanted me to stay on Cardassia and he said I could do a lot there. And he's all caught up in this sense of loyalty to the planet we were raised on. But we're very different people, he and I. I wanted to see the stars, and I don't regret it in the least. Especially not since I met you.” Illito paused, then decided against that to charge full-ahead into what she was going to say next. “I love you.” And that was it. It was just that simple, and she had no regrets for having said it, either.

Taking amoment to look at the city and to give Illito a chance to same something. He listened to what he had to say. He never got bored listening to her talk he always learned a little more about her when she talked.
Looking back at her as she rested her head on his shoulder. Drawing her closer and wrapping his arms around her. He was happy for the first time in a long everything that had happened with the captain and the mission seemed not so importan any more.
" I dont know what to say I was hoping that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. You have made me the luckyest person alive. I Love you, no matter what happens I'll always love you and be there when you need me no matter what." <Tag Illito>
Still looking at her and thinking he didn't want to mess things up he figure he'd better tell her everything. She was a doctor and sooner or later during one of the physicals she was going to figure it out. " You know I can control my body through deep thought what you might not know already is that includes ageing. You see on my world people live for a very long time they figured out how to do that a very long time ago. Its had some bad side effects childern are still born but not as much. When my adoptive parents found me and realized what race I was and how short our life spans were they couldn't bare the thought of loosing me. So they had my ageing process slowed. They started to teach me that first thing, I look only twenty but I'm about 86yrs old. I wont live for ever but I wont age as fast as everybody else. I'ev never mentioned it because people always want to know how. To tell the trueth I cant explain it anymore then you can tell somebody how to ride a bike."
" Thats pretty much it accept the bound I share with Angel my adoptive sister that was chemical induced. Its a way of keeping in touch and sharing experinces not knowledge, when we are close if I"m doing something I dont know how to do I enter deep thought and its like exiting your body and watching go on automatic. It links up with who ever you share the bond with and they take over and do what needs to be done. Its very taxing and you come out very tired after wards. But its got advantages when you are in a bind and you need help and aren't sure what to do." Pausing
" I'm telling you this because I love you and dont want any secerts kept from you. I want you to know everthing but something tells me you already know some of this from my last visit with angel. Not to mention if our relationship moves in the right direction which I hope and pray it does then there will come a time where this bond will be made with you. It is something you can choose not to do. I would never be able to read your mind it doesn't work that way just emotions and knowledge I would never realy know what you know just draw on it its like use if and forget it the mind can't retain all that. I just want to make sure what ever is in store for us we start off on the right foot" <tag Illito>
" I'm sorry that your brother can't see all the things you have done and all the good you have done. He does sound like he cares for you alot. You should be very proud of what you have done and the risk you have taken. You are a credit to your job and your people you are a strong person and I can only hope to mirrior your strenght. " Still hunging her he kissed her head and kept her close.
" still owe you a dinner my dear something special but I'm not sure what yet. Any ideas anything might want I'm more then willing to try anything right now. Hell when I'm with you I feel like I can take on anything" <Tag Illito>
Looking back at the city he felt whole again something that hadn't happened since he left his home world.

The day after Tras and his dinner, Luke sat alone at a table in one of the many 'lounges' aboard the Assailant. He was not in uniform and was not wearing his communicator. In fact there was nothing about his person that would suggest any affiliation with Starfleet at all. In a way he felt he was acting like a spoilt child, throwing a tantrum when he had been refused something, but the overwhelming feeling was that of anger. Admiral Lin had not returned any of his communications and he had yet been able to make contact with Commodore Savali, the Sector's JAG Officer. He had received no news from any of his crew and even less about the possibility of a new ship that Lin had 'sort of' promised. He knew there was a lot to be getting on with, reports to be filed, statements to be written. Approvals of transfers to be stamped, mission in action lists to confirm. However, none of those seemed as relevant or as important as they should be compared to staring out of that one window.
"May I join you Lex?"
Luke turned round, shocked to hear the use of his other name and saw Max standing there. Two fresh drinks in his hands and a stupid, lopsided grin plastered across his cheeks. He was in standard duty uniform and seemed to be in good spirits, however, Luke knew that appearances were often deceiving.
"Of course." Luke replied, motioning to the vacant chair opposite him, he didn't ask why Max had chosen to use 'Lex' instead of the name he now accepted as his own. He assumed it would be a point that the Commander would raise at a later time. He took the drink that he had been offered and sipped at it slowly, waiting for his old friend to start talking but he did no such thing. Minutes past, as did their drinks and still Max didn't speak. Luke began to feel even more awkward until at last he had to speak. "What is it?!" He snapped.
Max sighed. "I want to know what you're doing here. And I figured you wouldn't tell me if I burst into the questions straight away."
Luke rolled his eyes. "I'm enjoying my time off." He replied.
"Is that all it is?"
Luke stared at his empty glass. Of course it wasn't. But no one needed to know that.
"You forget that despite that mask you wear, you're still my mate from the days on the Tiger Shark." Max spoke again. "Your name, your age, the time in which you belong. None of it makes a difference. Right now you're still Lex to me, not Luke, but I see the other man beneath the surface, waiting to be released from whatever it is that's keeping you caged in."
The glass was launched from Luke's hand in an instant, shattering on the wall opposite. Within seconds he was on his feet, heart pounding he fled the room, Max looking on in shock. He walked for a few minutes, at a high pace before he entered an empty room and sank to the floor. Brushing hair from his face he looked at himself in the reflective surface of one of the tables in darkened room. He flinched at his scarred, ragged reflection that looked back at him. The man that he saw he did not recognise at all. Within his own eyes that seemed like strangers, he saw what seemed like every battle fought, every drop of blood spilt, every life lost flash through them. One single tear was shed, which he allowed to fall to the floor, he stared at the tiny puddle and sat for a while longer. Allowing things to just pass him by.

Katie wanted to make sure she was totally up to speed on the Scavenger’s last mission before she made her way to her new commanding officer to introducer herself as the new OPS officer. As she went through the mission details she was able to learn valuable things about the current crew, their personalities, their strengths and weakness anything that would help her fit right in. Katie found it funny that she was trying to relearn what she felt she already knew, besides it hadn’t been all that long since she was a rookie member aboard the Scavenger. The reading also kept her from him. The man she felt she could love for the rest of her life until the real world decided to throw its weight around.
Katie found herself pulling her eyes up from her classified reading material to watch the world go by. She felt herself watching those people who were together. They looked happy and in love, and that was something Katie so desperately wanted for her own life. It didn’t take but a few minutes of couples gazing that Katie packed up her things and marched her way over to a nearby computer.
“Computer locate Commander First Class Paikea Apirana.” Katie said.
“Commander Apirana is aboard the USS South Carolina.”
“Thank you.” Katie replied as if it was a person.
She rushed her way over to the South Carolina and stopped suddenly before its boarding doors. She felt a sudden surge of nervousness come over her. She knew that she couldn’t fully explain everything that she had gone through in the last year but she hoped that what she could explain would be enough. With those thoughts passing Katie rushed onto the South Carolina to reunite with the man of her dreams.
“Computer located Commander First Class Paikea Apirana.” Katie repeated.
“Commander Apirana is in Science Lab Two.”
“Thank you.” Katie again thanked the computer as if it was a friendly and helpful person.
She quickly made her way to the second science lab and stood for just a moment outside the doors. Taking a deep breath she stepped in front of the doors and watched as they slide open. Just in front of her was Paikea, he had his back to the door and seemed to be working hard on something.
“Hi.” Katie said in a soft tone.

Having left Illito to get herself ready for dinner, Pride head for his quarter aboard the star base. He stopping off at the bar along the way for something to drink he heard about the scence from early about a captain throwing his drink. Locating the manager of the bar he talked to him and paid for the glass and the drink. He also slipped him a little extra not to report.
The manager informed several people had seen it. " Its okay if they saw unless you file a report nothing will be done about it." The manager agreed and accepted the money, thinking to himself boy he's having a tought time. Still if he was hurt then something needed to be done quitely.
" Computer locate Captain Drago" a few moments went by he got his answer heading off that direction he found the room the captain was in. Looking around to make sure there were nobody was watching he entered. He saw Captain Drago looking very tired and very old.
Not saying anything he walked over to where he was sitting and Pulled out a first aid kit hanging on the wall and started working on his hand to heal the cut. He was know doctor but he was getting the job done. Still he had know way to relate to his loss on the level he was experinceing. Done fixing his hand " Sir the Manager of the lounge will not be filing a report I have take care of that. You will just have to deal with the scuttly butt for awhile." Still not sure what to say at a man who was out of time.
He had always know the captain wasn't from this time he could tell by the feelings he always got from him. His world were always in tune with there enviroment he chalked that up to his piloting skill being able to feel his way around gravity wells and such.
" Sir I dont think this will help you much might not help at all. Events happen somtime with no reason at all that we can understand. But they do happen and I do know your from a differnt time I felt it the day you came a board like a ripple in a lake very slight but no less a ripple. The point being you seem to be stuck on who you were and who you are. They are two differnt people now. Who you are now is all that matters, Who you were helped make who you are now. Your here for a reason dont know what but you are hear for a reason to change somthing. Dont let anybody give you crap about changing the time lines things happen for a reason your here for that reason. You'll know when the time comes what your suppose to do. Dont worry about the Man you were be the man you are now so you can change that one thing that needs to be changed. The universe is a living thing and it knows when it has to correct mistakes it pulls the one person it needs to do that and that person is you." Pausing for a moment " Like I said I dont know if it will help but I do know I respect the man in front of me and thats all that matters right now. We wont always agree about things but I still respect you for who you are now not who you were" <Tag Drago>

Luke rose to his feet and stared blankly at Pride. He had no ill feelings towards the Commander, but at the same time he didn't particularly want to spend large periods of time around him either. Not saying a word, Luke left the quiet, darkened room and headed towards his accomodation on the Assailant. He passed a number of people in the corridors, many of whom did not have a clue who he was, but some either recognised him from his highly inappropriate display earlier in the day or had picked up on the rumours that were darting about the Starbase faster than a case of Bolian Flu.
As he sat down on the small sofa in the room which he was currently calling 'home' he sighed and picked up a PADD that he had started working on that morning. On it contained a list, a very long one, of things that he had to deal with. Many conversations were needed to be had, especially with his Senior Staff, and he had realised, and made note of the fact, that he still had not confirmed the identity of a new vessel, if there was one at all. Something that attracted his attention on the list, which the computer had updated for him, was the transfer of two of his Bridge Staff. Commander Dunsmore and Lieutenant Tarapik were being reassigned, it did not state where. He was a little confused as to why he had not been officially told of this but there were currently more important things to contend with and seeing as there wasn't actually a Ship to be reassigned from at the moment he really couldn't make too much of an issue of it all. Reading down the list he decided to start at the beginning. And that meant talking to Parsons. He wasn't relishing this prospect of that conversation. The Commander had been thrust right into the deep end with his position on the Scavenger and Luke was sure there would be some sort of consequences.
Tapping his communicator, which sat on the sofa next to him, he opened a link to his First Officer, requesting that he join Luke in his quarters on Assailant as soon as possible. Adam confirmed the request and Luke thanked him, using his forename, realising that it was the first time he had done that.
This done, he threw the PADD onto his bed and approached the replicator, ordering a large Coffee. Sitting down at the desk, he sipped slowly at the beverage, waiting for his XO to arrive, not entirely sure what it was that he wanted to say.

Pride wasn't to shocked when the captain didn't say a word and walked out. Thinking to himself there goes a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Not wanting to share his burden with anybody " Oh well" Putting the med kit back where he found it he walked out of the room.
Not knowing what do now he still had a few hours before he was suppose to meet Illito. So walking over to the view port and taking a seat on the couch facing the window, he closed his eyes and opened him self up. He felt the space but trying to describe it was next to impossble. He could feel gravity wells and space gases and everthing that space was. Starting to think about his future and what may come of it. The captain hadn't said anything to him about transfering him off. They were at odds with each other and didn't know what the out come would be. His thoughts drifted back to Illito and how much he cared about her and what there future might be.
Still thinking he sat deep in thought feeling everthing around him. When people look at me they see a young man but they have know clue how old I'am and how long I will live. That part scared him alittle the thought of out living friends and people he care about. Still its hard to pass on what you know with out telling people how you know it. There were secerts he had to keep unit the federation was ready for them so many possiblity if they could just learn to slow down alittle. He heard somebody walking up to wear he was sitting and brought his attention back to where he was and what he needed to do Looking to see who was there. <Tag anybody>

Commander Parsons was lost in a history of 21st Century Earth, when his communicator alerted and his Captain's voice was heard. Parsons responded and put the PADD he was reading on a small table near his large overstuffed chair.
Standing up and straightening his uniform, the Commander made his way to Captain Drago's quarters.
***
The Captain's door chimed and he instructed his XO to enter. Adam came in and to the seat he was offered. The two men exchanged an awkward greeting and Luke offered coffee as he stood near the replicator with his own beverage.
"No thank you, Captain...not much of a coffee man....I will have a glass of water though if you don't mind."
Luke fed the instructions to the replicator and handed Parsons a glass of cool water.

Joseph Tras had quite enjoyed his dinner with Captain Drago, even though it hadn't lasted the entire evening as he had hoped. There was still a lot of mistrust between himself and the human captain of the late USS Scavenger, and Tras could hardly blame him. However, he wanted to understand the motivations of Drago and why he was hiding so much of his own past, even though he was from a mirror universe.
Tras himself hadn't many friends and he had hoped to one day count Drago among them, but alas it was entirely possible that was never to be. Even though Tras' life was now tied to the Scavenger and their crew, he had pretty much nowhere else to go. His mother had moved to Earth, making it known that she needed some time on her own before she wanted to see her son again. She was grateful her only son came to rescue her, after all these years of having been made to believe she was dead, but now she needed to pick up her own life again, and she desperately wanted to do that without her only child looking in over her shoulder with constant concern.
So, Tras had made a rather difficult decision, and had applied for a position aboard the Scavenger. He hadn't brought it up during his dinner engagement with Drago, which was a private venture. He was certain his request would show up on the captain's computer any day now, and he didn't really care on what position. He wasn't after a senior position, he just wanted to serve. Tras was quite aware that the Carolina wasn't his to command and he would soon return command back to starfleet.
Assaillant was coming up now, and the Scavenger rescuees would be departing, waiting for their new vessel. He felt the ship shudder under his feet when the ship docked, knowing he would chastise his navigator about the shabby docking procedures.
The next morning, Tras walked about through the corridors of the ship he had come to like and think of as his own for this short period of time. Without knowing where he went, he eventually stepped off his vessel and roamed assaillant and suddenly ran into Desert Pride. "Commander, are you all right?" Tras asked, as he sat himself down beside his former acting first officer, "you look like a troubled man."

Looking up to see Commander Tras standing next to him and then taking a seat.
"Commander, are you all right?" Tras asked, as he sat himself down beside his former acting first officer, "you look like a troubled man."
Looking him in eyes and realizing just how much he had come to learn about Commander Tras. Maybe even thinking of him as a friend of sorts who knew what the future held for these two.
" Well sir I'm a little confused right now, My captain hasn't said one word to me since the bridge incident. I"ev tried to talk to him and explain why I did what I did the safety of the ship and crew had to be my first concern. I think he feels like I betrayed him in some way, I waiting to see if he even will allow me to rejoin the crew."
" I just dont understand him sometimes I would think that he would understand that I was your first officer. That my dutie and loyalty to him had to take 2nd place because as your first officer my duty is to you the ship and safety of the crew. I keep going over it in my head but I can't see what other choice I had. The South Carolina had to come first no matter what my personal feelings were."
" I just wish he would say something anything so I know where I stand. If he wants me off the ship I'll go but I really dont want to do that" this thoughts started to drift back to Illito for a moment.
" Then I"m walking around on base and hear about a incident in the bar. He had a out burst and cut his hand. I smoothed it over with the bar owner and made sure he wouldn't report it. I went and found patched up his hand and told him to stop worrying about who he use to be and only worry about who he is now. That things happen for a reason and that sometimes it takes awhile to figure out what those reasons are. Still not one word from not even get the hell out or go away. He just left after I stopped the bleeding"
" So I"m sitting her preparing myself for what might or might not come. I go over everthing in my head and realize there is nothing I could of done or would have done differntly. I wont risk a crew that I"m suppose to protect out of some twisted sense of loyalty becauese I'm not sure the people we have aboard are really who they say they are" < Tag Tras>
" Sorry sir I dont mean to lay my burdens on you I really dont. I look human but I wasn't raised by them at all. You have ment my people they are differnt they love to learn and explore but they dont get caugth up with so much emotion. I still feel lost and a outsider when it comes acting human sometimes I dont know what I'm suppose to say or do. We beleave learning and dealing with our problems as a whole. We dont hold gruges or blame each other for mistakes. We learn from them and try to correct them so they dont happen again. We haven't seen a war in over 200yrs its not to say we can't fight but we dont take life just for the purpose of it. We fight only when our way of life is threatened its one the few things worth fighting for. I just dont know what to do I dont understand what Captain Drago wants me to do I dont understand this need to keep everthing bottled up whe all it leads to is more problems with bad out comes. Why do humans feel the need to keep everthing inside and not work through it to become a better person."
" The more I learn of what it is to be human more I understand why my world doesn't want to join the federation. They are right in some aspects they are still to young the things we could teach you the places we have been the things we know could so greatly advance the federation. I" not say being human is all bad I see great potential in you all. I know that Im human to but I'ev been raised differntly so I have learned there way of thinking. I also know being human has its own rewards I I I just dont know what I should do" <Tag Tras>

"Please leave," Paikea said harshly as he walked into the science lab, very much to the surprise of the two junior officers.
"Excuse me sir, but we have reserved this time to study this strain of Ankaran flu," the older officer said.
"Ensign, I don't really give a damn, I ordered you to leave the lab and I expect my orders to be followed," Paikea roared as he accessed a computer terminal.
"I don't know who you are Commander, but I will be reporting this behavior to my superior officer," the officer said before he and his friend stormed out of the lab.
"Computer is the USS Scavenger back up computer core intact?" Paikea asked.
"Affirmative."
"Where is it located?" Paikea asked pleased that all the work he had accomplished in two years had survived.
"Starbase Assailant."
With this knowledge, Paikea accessed the starbases's sentient computer system once again and downloaded one of his most ambitious experiments. The ability to suppress any given emotion in the brain. This work was due to Paikea's wish to stop feeling depressed and angry at Katie's lack of contact.
"Computer disable all communications with this lab and my communicator," Paikea said as he turned to his work table and began to work his equations.
"Affirmative"
Paikea's foul move ebbed as he put his efforts into his work. One thing that never failed him was his work. Within a few hours he could feel the familiar aches in his hands, but he didn't care. It would keep him from thinking about the destruction of the Scavenger, the dispersion of her crew, and the loss he felt without her.
“Hi.” Katie said in a soft tone.
Paikea couldn't help but think that his mind was trying to make him feel good, but something wasn't right. He was sure that he had heard the doors open to allow someone access. Paikea turned to tell them to leave, but stopped dead in his tracks.
There in the middle of the doors stood the one person that made him weak in the knees. The only person he would gladly die for, but these feelings of happiness were intertwined with feelings of anger, resentment, and sadness. His conflicted mind and heart left him practically speechless, the only thing he could say was.....

“I don’t know what I’m doing here.” Katie said.
Katie felt foolish standing there with her bags in her hands and her hair in her face. She knew that Paikea could tell that she had rushed to find him and when she did she had nothing to say. She had no excuses for her lack of communication to the man she had thought she loved with all her heart.
“I should probably go, you look busy.” Katie said.

The two Officers sat in awkward silence for a little while before Luke felt he needed to make some sort of effort.
"I want to thank you for all you did during the conflict." He began. "I haven't had much of a chance to speak to anyone since we returned, and that is poor of me. But I have read your report and those of who were with you at the time and I can only offer you praise for the work you did. I understand it could not have been easy, and I thank you."
<TAG Adam>
"And now to business." He lifted a PADD from his desk and pretended to read what it contained when really he knew it's contents virtually off by heart. He had read it that many times. "As far as I understand we are to receive a new vessel, and new mission orders, but when that will happen I haven't a clue. I have been informed that we have two new Officers to join us, which does suggest that the assignment of a new ship will be sooner rather than later. Katie Anderson has been assigned as our CEO, she actually served with us a while back but was reassigned. As for our other transfer I need to confirm a few things before that becomes public knowledge. I have also heard that Commander Tras is looking for a permanent position with us but in my opinion that needs serious reviewing. What are your thoughts?"
<TAG Adam>
"Perhaps you and I need to meet daily until we have everything sorted. I would like to schedule a senior staff meeting for as soon as possible as well. Can I leave that with you Commander?"
<TAG Adam>
Luke nodded. "Thank you. And finally for now, it is customary for a memorial service to be held for lost crew, and in this case, ship. I will be talking to Admiral Lin about the ceremony and of course our new vessel." Luke sighed and once again looked down at the PADD, taking a long sip of coffee at the same time. "Do you have anything you would like to raise Commander?" He asked.
<TAG Adam>
As their meeting drew to a close Luke saw his FO to the door, shook the man's hand, once again thanking him for his efforts and then retired back into his quarters. Sitting on the edge of his bed he thought to the list of things that he had to achieve in the next few days, it seemed to be an impossible achievement. On top of that he had to deal with his situation with Max and check in on Illito and Paikea, who at this time would both be dealing with difficult situations.
Resigned to the fact that getting some rest at this time was not likely, he tapped his comm badge and requested his comm be put through to Admiral Lin.
"Drago to Admiral Lin. Is there an appropriate time for us to meet and discuss the present situation. I know things on Assailant are a little hairy at the moment but I believe this to be important." Luke said quickly, not wanting the Admiral to interupt.

The two Officers sat in awkward silence for a little while before Luke spoke.
"Thank you, Captain. I just wish I could have done more to save the Scavenger." Parsons said, thinking of not only the ship, but the souls lost aboard her. Parsons also had some small twinge of regret that he had not been with the Captain to pull him off of the Scavenger bridge, but this was tempered by the fact that Drago had survived the destruction of the ship.
"Well, certainly with Tras' history, I have reservations, but you know him better than I and I will stand by your decision."
"Very good, sir, daily meetings sound prudent. I will schedule a staff meeting in one of Assailant's conference rooms as soon as we are finished here."
"I think a memorial service is necessary. I also think the Scavenger survivors would benefit from access to counseling services. I suggest one required meeting with a counselor, and any recommended follow-up."
As their meeting drew to a close Luke saw his FO to the door, shook the man's hand, once again thanking him for his efforts and then retired back into his quarters.
Parsons headed for Starbase Operations to reserve a conference room. Once at Ops, an attractive young ensign assisted the Commander in making arrangements. Adam thanked her and made the announcement over the Starbase comm system..."Attention all senior staff of the USS Scavenger, there will be a meeting in conference room C in on hour, I repeat, there will be a meeting of all Scavenger senior staff in conference room C in one hour, that is all."
Parsons then set out to make personal contact with each senior staff member to confirm their attendance at the briefing.

"Of course. I ll meet you in the Fleet Conference Room in the Starfleet Area in Fleet Ops. Five minutes. Magellan out"
Magellan arrived first. He didnt expect otherwise. Fleet Ops was only round the corner from Station Ops and his office. He stood in the conference room with Commander Zoilip his aide and Base Tactical Officer. Whilst Leonardo was down on Qualinost looking in to the shuttle crash he was also keeping an eye on security. Magellan himself had little time to look into the tragic accident that had pretty much ended the Debrune Holy Childs life.
"Admiral" Drago greeted as he entered the room.
"Captain." Magellan replied with a nod. He offered Drago a seat which he took.
"You mentioned a memorial service."
Drago nodded, "For the lost crew and the ship"
"I understand. We can arrange something for the arboretum in the next day or so. Have all the families been contacted?"
Luke nodded wearily,
"Good. That just leaves your new orders. Without a ship you are somewhat restricted. Im not sure how soon your replacement ship will be here and I wont be here to chase it up. As soon as the Nevada is here I have a potentially dangerous First Contact mission to make... with the Kasan-thar"
Luke could see Magellan searching his eyes to see if the name meant anything to him. It did but he wasnt about to say anything.
"Understood sir. So what are we to do. Well take the chance to take a breather. You'll probably be a ranking officer here you wont need to run the base and anything high level will go through Keztrek and Hrisvalar. Basically I m leaving you to your own discretion for now. When your ship arrives, get her space worthy and crewed then head out. We need all ships in the field. I could particularly do with someone keeping an eye on the latest offensive the Klingons are making on the Tholians otherwise... you know your crew and abilities best. We can have a proper ship investuture when I get back. Does that answer all your questions?"

Luke scratched his head, he guessed that did answer all his questions. He was glad that their would be some downtime for those who wanted it, however, the option of work was too tempting for Luke to turn down... He hadn't worked alongside a Klingon in years... Ironically enough it had been to do with the Colonial War concerning the Tholians, although he hadn't just been gathering the news then.
"That does indeed Admiral, thank you for your time." Luke stood up and shook Lin's hand, something that sent shivers down his spine. Seeing people in this time that he had assumed dead in the other was still an odd experience. He turned to leave the room but before he could the Admiral spoke up again.
"Captain, I would like to see you remain in Uniform when technically on duty from now on. There is no need for people to start asking more questions, and a well know Captain walking around poorly dressed does get the rumour mill working."
Luke nodded, not offering a verbal response and left the room, brushing hair out of his eyes again. Since he had returned to Assailant, his eyes had begun to return to normal, with the aid of newly replicated nano-probe injections. However, his old friend Mc7 was right, he was needing more and more of the injections in shorter and shorter periods. His body was adapting to the presence of the alien workers.
Pushing that thought to the back of his head he walked through the decks of Assailant, to where Adam had called for the staff meeting to be held. He arrived long before the others, which was as he liked, it gave him time to prepare what he was going to say. As he sat down at the end of the long, retangular table he rubbed his temples and closed his eyes, thinking, once again, of all that had happened.

Tras leaned his back against the wall, tilting his head backwards as he considered Pride's words. "That's true enough," he finally answered, 'but you have to see for yourself where you wish to go. Even if your world will not yet join the Federation, you as Starfleet officer could show them why it would benefit them to join.'
He fell silent as he now considered his own words. "You served on a fine vessel commander," he continued, "and under a fine commanding officer. True, on the Carolina you were my acting first officer, but Drago has always been your actual commanding officer. You were officially assigned to the Scavenger when you joined me on the Carolina. I can quite understand why Captain Drago felt betrayed. However, you did what you felt was right and he can't fault you for that. I'm sure he won't, but your action hurt his pride, so give him some time to mend that."
Tras listened with distinct effort as Parson's voice rang over the intercom calling for all senior staff to report. He patted Pride on the shoulder as he got to his feet, grunting with the effort. "I'm getting old," he grinned, "at any rate that's us. We should not keep the commander waiting. I have yet to hear from Captain Drago about my request to stay aboard."
A little later, both commanders reported in and Tras tentatively waited at the back of the room, hoping to be acknowledged and told what was expected of him.

“I don’t know what I’m doing here.” Katie said.
Pai looked at the only person that took his breath away. She was clearly flushed and the bags told him that she had just arrived. The scene was reminisent to the day they arrived on the Scavenger and he couldn't help but smile.
“I should probably go, you look busy.” Katie said.
"No, you know that I'm never to busy to talk to you," Pai said as he walked towards her clearly not knowing what to do. "I've missed you, Katie."
