The turbolift doors closed and Parsons turned to Hunter, "The Captain is currently in his ready room. Some of your Marines should be in the Operations Center adjoining your office. The rest are likely in the barracks or about the ship on their off time. Feel free to call a meeting as soon as you are able."
The turbolift stopped and the doors swished open. "Here we are," said the FO, stepping into the corridor.
The two officers walked a ways to the Lieutenant's officer door and entered. "This is your, office, Lieutenant," Adam said, looking around.
"The Operations room is through there," Parsons motioned toward a second door in the office leading to another large room. "If you would like to get settled in here," I will head back to the bridge, Mr. Hunter, otherwise I would be happy to show you to your quarters."

"Thank you, Commander Parsons" said Hunter.
Parsons nodded and headed back to the bridge. When he arrived, Captain Drago was standing near the command chair.
"Captain, Marine First Lieutenant William Hunter has reported in, our new Senior Marine Officer. I took him to his office to settle in, but I know he is anxious to meet you and will be stopping by the bridge once he is settled in," the XO reported.

A little while later, Drago and Parsons were on the bridge, when Lt. Hunter stepped off of the turbolift. He walked onto the bridge and walked up to Captain Drago.
Parsons and Hunter nodded to each other and Adam introduced the new crew member to the Captain. "Captain, this is Lt. William Hunter, our new Senior Marine Officer."

"No," Parsons said raising an eyebrow, "it actually looks pretty routine. I don't suppose there's much information on the anomaly, since we are being sent to scan it?"
Luke shook his head. "You are correct, there is practically nothing on this anamoly. Starfleet does not seem overly concerned though. The very fact that it has been found in the Badlands suggests that it's more likely to be some sort of freak plasma storm rather than anything more sinister."
"Well it sounds like a good first mission to be broken in as First Officer. Once we are underway, I would like to make rounds to the major departments, introduce myself, that type of thing. That is unless you need me on the bridge or elsewhere, while we are en route?" Adam said, handing the PADD back to the Captain.
Luke took the padd and locked it out again. He didn't believe for a second that this anamoly was anything to be concerned about, but years of wearing his uniform had taught him to be cautious at the best of times.
"Sounds like an excellent idea to me Commander. I believe we are due to leave dock within the next 24 hours so once we have cleared the Starbase's short term sensor range I see no reason why you can't make your rounds as it were." He said with a smile. The two Senior Officers conversed for a while longer before Parsons left, leaving Luke to continue reading through the reports.
A short time later and the Commanding Officer strolled onto the Bridge, he was immediately bombarded with deck and team reports. To which he placed in a pile and maded a mental note to file somewhere far away... Perhaps Commander Parsons' desk...
Just as he was about to leave the Bridge his new Executive Officer approached him. Luke could tell that this was a man that he could get on with. He wore the uniform with pride and showed no sign of insubordination on his record, but he had that glint in his eye that suggested that obeying the rules wasn't always the right thing. Luke liked that glint.
"Captain, Marine First Lieutenant William Hunter has reported in, our new Senior Marine Officer. I took him to his office to settle in, but I know he is anxious to meet you and will be stopping by the bridge once he is settled in." Parsons reported.
"Very good Commander, thank you." Luke ignored the niggling feeling at the back of his mind. He had never been a particular fan of the Marine presence on Starfleet vessels, but since the Dominion War they had become more frequent and now generally were on all Vessels throughout the fleet. He realised that they were just doing a job, and they did it well. But as always, Luke had reasons for his prejudice and, yet again, as always he found it hard to let go.
Luke pushed these thoughts to the back of his mind and continued with his work, walking around the Bridge with Commander Parsons, checking up on each department. He was double checking everything this time, Tras' presence as CO had unnerved him a fair amount, he didn't like not knowing what was going on. Some time passed and duties were carried out, people came and left the Bridge and with them came their new SMO.
"Captain, this is Lt. William Hunter, our new Senior Marine Officer."
Luke nodded at the Lieutenant and offered his hand to be shaken. "Welcome aboard First Lieutenant." He said.

Hunter left the Bridge in search of his Marine Corps leaving Luke to analyse the new situation, he didn't have much time he imagined, their new SMO used time extremely effectively and he had asked the Commanding Officer to see him again shortly. Perhaps to discuss the Marine compliment that was being transferred here from Assailant. Luke didn't mind this, he was just more comfortable with the Security details on the Ship, he wondered how their new CTSO would respond to corps arriving. He was Vulcan, well at least part Vulcan as he understood it, so whatever the case he would hide his emotions well. Luke thought back to KezTrek and how often she would mask her true feelings so effectively.
Snapping himself out of thinking in the past again Luke began to pace the Bridge, occassionally checking up on what the crew was doing. He was getting impatient and wanted to get underway, and he was sure the crew felt the same. He knew that Tintagel was busying herself with physicals and he had expertly ignored her comm call a couple of hours earlier, but he was worried about Paikea, he was taking this all so hard, and Luke needed to know that his head would be in the right place for the next mission, whatever it may be. Yet another thing that was annoying the Captain, he had no idea where they headed next, which usually meant that they weren't going to like it. Being left in the dark for so long never bode well.
"Captain Drago to Commander Apirana. Please meet me in Holodeck 2, this evening at 1900hrs. I will explain then." Without waiting for a response he set about contacting two other Officers.
"Captain to Drago to Lieutenants Tarapik and Hunter. Please meet me in my Ready Room in half an hour, we have some logistics to sort through."
Nodding to Parsons as he left the Bridge he also added. "And if you wouldn't mind joining us then Commander." He said and then dissapeared behind the doors of his Ready Room.
"Drago to Tintagel." Luke said into an open comm channel yet again, as he took his seat behind the desk and poured a cup of coffee. "I apologise for my late response, and I am afraid to say that I will not be able to make it down to Sickbay for a physical today. Please, however, get in contact with Lieutenant Commander Max Bower." He said with a smile. "He is new to the ship and I believe hasn't had a physical in about six months." Luke laughed to himself as he closed the comm. The good thing with friendships was that you really could get away with anything, that and Commanding the Starship the friend currently served on...

Logic is the cement... ascend from chaos... using reason... reason... reason... ... ... ... ... I have decided... leave Vulcan... join Starfleet... reason... reason... reason... Get aboard... Scavenger... ... ... ...Captain Drago to Lieutenants Tarapik...and Hunter. Please meet me in my Ready Room in half an hour, we have some logistics to sort through." The Vulcan's eyes opened widely. He was on his bed. Apparently he had fallen asleep, tired after the meditation. But he had no memory of it whatsoever. Suddenly, he remembered what had woken him up and stopped his nightmares. Tarapik quickly jumped from the bed and opened an intercom channel, using the control panel over the replicator. "Give me two minutes, captain," - he said - "I shall be with you in two minutes." <tag Drago> While he was getting into a new uniform, the Vulcan remembered that the captain said one more name. "Hunter..." - he thought - "interesting. What could he have in common with the logistics? I shall understand soon." With that he stopped his stream of consciousness and carried on with his activity with a silent mind. A few minutes later, Tarapik, in a new and neat uniform, left the turbolift on the bridge. He first stepped to the tactical station and temporarily relieved the officer on it. The Vulcan took a PADD and started a level- 5 diagnostic and entered all the data into the PADD. Then, with the small PADD under his arm, Tarapik moved to the ready room and pressed the door-bell. <tag Drago\Hunter>

“Please, however, get in contact with Lieutenant Commander Max Bower.” He said with a smile. “He is new to the ship and I believe hasn't had a physical in about six months.”
“Neither have you, Captain, sir,” Illito replied, but she knew she wasn't going to convince Captain Drago to come down to sickbay today of his own free well. So she had to choose, either today or of his own free will. “So I expect to see you soon.” Her desire to drag Captain Drago into sickbay because she knew it wouldn't hurt him and if he ever was sick or seriously injured she really didn't want to be working off of records from who knew how long ago. Drago's past seemed a little-sketchy, and Illito didn't like what that did to her medical records.
Illito tapped her commbadge, not yet leaving the gym. “Doctor Tintagel to Commander Bower, can you meet me in sickbay in maybe...half an hour?”
<Tag Bower>
Illito glanced at Pai, with a light quip. “No rest for the wicked, nor for doctors, apparently.”
Drago's most recent orders would move her away from Pai, who clearly needed someone to talk to, but Illito had bought a little more time. And while Illito really wanted to say she was Pai's friend, she didn't think she could. She just didn't talk to him enough. Which gave her even more reasons why she couldn't leave right now. “How are you doing?” she asked Pai instead, candidly.

"Come." Luke said in response to the door chime resounding in the Ready Room. He placed the mug of coffee down on the table and smiled as Lieutenant Tarapik entered, standing up and offering his CTSO a place to sit. "Could I get you something to drink Lieutenant?" He asked.
<TAG Tarapik>
Luke ordered the beverage from the replicator and passed it to Tarapik who thanked the Captain and sat down opposite Luke.
"I won't start until First Lieutenant Hunter gets here." Luke said. "He's our new Senior Marine Officer and I just wanted to make sure you two know who each other are, I imagine that your work will overlap a fair amount, especially on away missions."
<TAG Tarapik>
"So how are you finding your new post?" He asked, wanting to guage how well his new Officer was doing, which might prove to be more challenging than one would hope. "Settling in alright? I know things are slow around here at the moment, we're just waiting for final orders from Command." Luke shifted his position in his chair and took a long sip of the now cold coffee. There was something in his nature that just wouldn't let him waste a drop of the stuff, cold or not...

Parsons remained in command on the bridge as he watched the ship's CTSO enter the Captain's Ready Room.

A little while later, Lt. Hunter entered the bridge and the young XO watched as Hunter waited outside the Ready Room. After a few seconds the door swooshed open and the Marine officer stepped inside.
Parsons waited a another moment before handing the Conn over to a junior officer and entering the Captain's Ready Room himself. The two lieutenants were seated in front of the Captain's desk and Drago was in his chair behind the desk.

“How are you doing?” she asked Pai instead, candidly.
Paikea finally realized that Illito, the only true friend she had left on the Scavenger would not give up. She was a reserved indivual, but there was so much more to the Scavenger's chief medical officer. With this realization in mind, Pai stopped working out and faced the Cardassian doctor.
"I'm lost without her, I know its only been a few hours, but I can't stop missing her," Paikea said making sure to avoid her eyes. His people always believed that a person's eyes couldn't betray thier emotions. Once eye contact was established there was no way of hiding the hurt, anger, love, or longing. You were vulnerable and Paikea hated that feeling.
"I lost the respect of my father and my tribe when I joined Starfleet, I was a walking zombie until Katie came into my life," Paikea said," if there is any drug to make the pain go away I'll be in sickbay immedatiely. Since there isn't I don't think you can help and since we don't have a counsellor...."

Hunter arrived moments after Luke had asked Tarapik how he was finding things. And is if Parsons had read his thoughts he also appeared soon after Hunter arrived, sitting a little way back from the desk on a small sofa that Luke was planning to have removed as soon as possible. In short it was hideous.
"Thank you for coming." He said to all of them. "This really is just me making sure that everyone is aware of what there responsibilities are etc. As we now have a Marine Detachment on board it will be necessary for the Security Teams headed up by Lieutenant Tarapik to liase with Lieutenant Hunter. I want to make sure this ship runs as smoothly as she has done in the past."
<TAG Tarapik/ Hunter>
"Very good. I will leave it down to you how you organise security on this vessel but make sure it is put past myself and Commander Parsons before any final decisions are made." He paused, wary of how to approach this next matter. "I also want to make sure that you both understand the CTSO and the SMO are equal in importance on this Ship. In my eyes the uniform you wear makes no difference to me, you protect this ship, I continue to like you." He smiled, slightly sarcastically. "Clear?"
<TAG Tarapik/ Hunter>
"Very good. I will leave you two to make the necessary preparations for a joint Security-Marine briefing. Commander Parsons and I will review what comes from that briefing and let you know our thoughts on how things are progressing."
<TAG Tarapik/ Hunter>
Luke nodded. "Lieutenant Tarapik, please resume your duties on the Bridge. Lieutenant Hunter, you will be manning the Operations console for our next mission, you can run Strategic Operations from there and seeing as we have no COO it works perfectly for now."
The two Officers responded with sharp 'Yes Sirs' and Luke dismissed them back to their duties, leaving the two Command grade Officers in the Ready Room.
"When are we to be departing Captain?" Parsons asked.
"I believe tomorrow morning Commander." Luke said in response, standing up and straightening his uniform jacket. "We finally have clearance to depart so there are just the usual last minute things to see to."
<TAG Parsons>
"Very good, make sure you enjoy the last day of your time off as well. Long shore leave like the one we just experienced doesn't come around that often." Luke said in response to the Commanders eagerness to work.
After the Commander had left Luke followed shortly after and headed to his quarters. He had yet to unpack all of his minimal belongings and there were a few things that had arrived in the latest Cargo shipment that he hadn't had a chance to look over yet.

"Could I get you something to drink Lieutenant?" Drago asked. "I could use a glass of warm, herbal tea, sir," said Tarapik. "I am afraid I am getting addicted to it... but it helps waking up too well..." added the Vulcan after a second of thought. He sat a down on the chair the captain had pointed and took the glass from his hand. "Thank you, sir," he said. "I won't start until First Lieutenant Hunter gets here." Luke said. "He's our new Senior Marine Officer and I just wanted to make sure you two know who each other are, I imagine that your work will overlap a fair amount, especially on away missions." Tarapik raised his eyebrow, surprised. Surprised, but also thankful - running a ship's security was quite easier and smoother with marines. "Good news, sir," said the Vulcan, expressing his thoughts - "running a ship's security is quite easier and smoother with marines." After some thought, Tarapik added: "Formally, yes, our work would quite overlap, but we should still not forget marines are an individual subdivision. They tend to forget orders of superior Starfleet officers." The Vulcan took a glance at the questioning look in Drago's eyes and added: "Actually, I am quite fond of marines... you may not know it, but my first and my last instructors were marines. I learned some of their techniques. Quite useful, indeed." What followed was a second of awkward silence, that the captain broke down: "So how are you finding your new post? Settling in alright? I know things are slow around here at the moment, we're just waiting for final orders from Command." Luke shifted his position in his chair and took a long sip of the now cold coffee. Tarapik moved in his chair and took a look at his own cup. He had completely forgotten his tea. It was probably cold by now, but he still needed it. The Vulcan reached for the tea and took a long sip. After that he looked at the ceiling above the captain's head and answered: "Things are smooth, captain. I believe I am settling fine." Then he moved his eyes downward and gazed right in Drago's eyes. Then slowly, almost hypnotizing, he said: "Things indeed are slow, captain... but do you want to scare a Vulcan with the speed of the unfolding events. We are pretty patient, captain, do not forget..." At that moment the door-bell rang. Tarapik turned around and traced the movements of the young man that entered the room. "Sorry, I am late, Captain,” he said. A second later Tarapik was forced to once again turn around to the door and trace commander Parsons to his seat. Now things were going too fast... After the pleasantries, captain Drago's voice took the Vulcan out of the stupor: "Thank you for coming." He said to all of them. "This really is just me making sure that everyone is aware of what there responsibilities are etc. As we now have a Marine Detachment on board it will be necessary for the Security Teams headed up by Lieutenant Tarapik to liaise with Lieutenant Hunter. I want to make sure this ship runs as smoothly as she has done in the past," Drago said Tarapik turned back to him and said: "As to what it takes from me, sir, she will - I hope mister Hunter's teams would manage to coop successfully with mine." <tag Hunter> "Very good. I will leave it down to you how you organise security on this vessel but make sure it is put past myself and Commander Parsons before any final decisions are made." Te captain was truly right - there were ones that thought rank was more important the the person decorated with it. They often met the complete disagreement of the Vulcan. "Captain, you can completely count on me on this matter," he said plainly, hoping that the meaning of his words would get to the captain. "It is clear, sir," Tarapik added after some more thoughts. <tag Hunter> Luke nodded. "Lieutenant Tarapik, please resume your duties on the Bridge. Tarapik took a second to deeply inhale the air of the bridge, after which he quickly deflated and made a dash for the tactical station. A few seconds later, the Vulcan raised his head and traced Hunter's path, toward the operations console, with a raised eyebrow. Then he lowered his head again and carried on working. A minute later, completely unexpected to anyone, the Vulcan raised his head and asked sharply: "Mister Hunter, when would you suggest the security briefing to take place?" <tag Hunter>

Illito tried to listen carefully to Pai, unwilling or unable to let her thoughts drift in the direction they wanted to go, towards thinking of Pride and his smile and wishing he'd hurry on and return faster. She felt a little hypocritical, trying to be there for Pai and listening to him when she didn't want to talk about what she felt, but she was a far better listener than she was a converser.
“Drugs don't fix emotions,” Illito said. Partly because there wasn't really anything about emotions that needed fixing, but Illito didn't think this would be the best time for her to share that personal conviction with Pai. “But while I'm certainly not a counselor, and I don't have any drugs, I can at least try to help. Will you give me that?” she asked, trying to make eye contact. She couldn't, which she found a little disconcerting. She had read at some point that some Earth civilizations believed that the eyes were the gateway to the soul. Even if she didn't believe in a soul, per se, she did believe that eye contact portrayed a kind of trust, or mutual understanding.
“Do you want to go to twelve-forward and get something to eat?” Illito asked, having given up trying to hide the concern she felt for Pai's well-being.

Pai evaluated her question and decided that his next decision would be a very important one. If he decided to join Illito, it meant that he was able to move on from the past and look forward to the future. If he decided to stay it meant that he would never leave the past where he was safe and comfortable.
"Yes, I would like a drink," Paikea responded as he made the effort to make eye contact. After a few seconds of trying there eyes met. It dawned on him immediately that Illito understood his situation, with Pride being gone as well. "Illito, I'm really sorry for being a jerk."

"Do I still have to do that physical?" Paikea asked trying to be funny, but also hoping he didn't have to.
