It was late but Magellan worked to a different timetable to most. Manyt believed an Admirals job was a cushy one and to be honest it was. Well if you were at Starfleet Comand, Utopia Planetia or any one of a hundred groundside installations. But Admirals out in the field had it all to do. A fleet to oversee, a starbase to run and diplomats to keep in order.
All three of these had kept Magellans attention carefully focused. The Colonial War was no where near a conclusion, the discovery of the Kasan-thar scared him witless and the intrigue surrounding the Debrune and the Romulan Embassy was as thick as ever.
He paused and tentativley rang the door chime. He paused a moment as he heard movement within. Parsons appeared at the door. He was half in uniform, his jacket tunic could be seen draped on a chair behind him. "Oh errr Sir."
"Its alright Mr Parsons, this is an informal visit. May I?"
"Yes of course come in Sir, take a seat."
Magellan nodded and did as he was asked, "Adam Call me Magellan we're off duty."
"Alright" Parsons smiled, was that the first time he had genuinely smiled today? He shrugged.
"I didn't think it right to intrude on your memorial to do the hand over. Perhaps tomorrow?"
"I understand" Parsons replied,
"It can be a new start. Any news on Captain Drago?"
The Admirals tone took on a hasher clipped tone. Parsons was aware that there were some issues between the Captain and Admiral.
TAG Parsons
"We'll until then the ship is yours. How would you like the commissioning to be conducetd then?"
The two officers slipped into an easy discussion of arrangements.

As he sat on the bridge reading reports, it was becoming quite clear. The ship up grades were making the ship new again. From the reports it was appearing although she might look old her systems were the best on line now. He started to wonder what they had planned for this ship.
Still it felt different and would take time to get use to, she was still missing the crew maybe thats it. He started to wonder when the rest of the crew would start to show up and make them selves out home. He started to compile the reports for the captain, skimming down and adding where needed. He knew the captain would want all avalable information but not every detail.

Joseph Tras had listened to Parson's speech and decided he didn't want to speak up after all. After the captain was done, Tras returned to his quarters aboard the South Caroline for a brief rest. They'd be busy soon enough and now he should take all the rest he could get.
However, after spending a long time tossing and turning, Tras finally dressed again and returned to the bridge. In a few hours his first shift as helmsman would start and he would still need the flight lessions. "Couldn't sleep either sir?" he asked formally, approaching Pride. "It was quite a speech wasn't it, and the deceased will surely be remembered. To put it in Klingon style, songs will be sung about them."
He sat down in the seat next to Pride, resting his arms on his legs. "I'm not sure what to think of this all. This is the second command taken from me, yet I'm still very happy to be part of this crew. And I have yet again a new position...it won't be long until I've held them all." He smiled sadly, then nodded towards the navigations console. "How about we start early?" he asked, "but ah, I think a holodeck would be safer for the first attempt. I've never flown anything other than a skimmer before."

Speaking about the handover of the South Carolina, "tomorrow would be fine with me Admiral... I mean Magellan," Parsons said with a smirk catching himself. He was not used to being this informal with flag officers.
It would be an informal and brief ceremony on the bridge of the South Carolina. There would be no great fanfare as this was, as of yet, a relatively temporary handover. It was also just a formality, as several of the crew had already taken up quarters on the Nova class ship and first the Chief Engineer and now the First Officer as well, were onboard overseeing the final upgrades.
"I will see you tomorrow morning then," Parsons said to the Admiral, and the two parted company for the evening.

Looking at Commander Tras as he sat down and started talking. " Well I wouldn't worry to much about command. I just had a run in with our new Chief engineer, who feels that he shouldn't have to report to the xo only the captain. So I say for the moment you lucked out on the headaches. I'm not use to this, I reminded him that he is required to report to me but dont know how that will go over. Since you have been in command before any advice you could send my way would be welcomed. I dont want to step on toes but, I dont want to be left out of the loop and caught off guard."
" I Agree we'll go to the holodeck, I wouldn't worry to much that fact you have some flying skills will help. Piloting a star ship is not hard developing the skills for combat is the tought part. You and the Tatical officer need to be in sink with each other, for weapon ranges, shield strenghts. I dont think you need to worry about that right now, lets just get you to the point where you can get the ship out of space dock. I'm sure you'll catch on fast, then you'll know every job aboard the ship almost. "
A few mins later they were in the holodeck programed to look like the Carolina. Standing next to Commander Tras while he took the conn. " These are your thruster controls, impulse drive is on your right, Warp controls are on your left. Guideance control is in the center, Why dont you adjust the panel to the lay out you want and we'll begin from there okay"

Magellan checked his dress uniform in the mirror and frowned at the slight bulge. He was getting out of shape. He resolved himself to getting down to the gym more often.
In less than 24 hours he found himself returning to the new Scavenger - He couldnt help but think of it as that. The ship was due to be called the Salavezza or something and was currently the South Carolina, but to him it would be the Scavenger.
"Mr Parsons" he greeted as he arrived on the bridge. The Acting CO was stood with his other senior officers on the bridge.
"Sir."
"Lets get this dedication started" Magellan replied taking center stage on the bridge.
"The South Carolina has a long and proud history. No more so than the Scavenger" He began. "The Scavenger like all ships was more than just a home, it was a partner, a friend. It loss will be felt as keenly as those crew that were lost along with her.
This is the first of several new beginnings. You take these first steps as a new crew aboard a new ship. For now it will remain the South Carolina but I officially recommission her into the First Fleet and place her under the care of Acting Captain Parsons. A full renaming will occur when Captain Drago returns.
Mr Parsons do you accept care of this new vessel"
TAG Parsons
"Very well. I hereby assign this vessel to your provisional command and wish you and all your crew good luck and fair sailing. I give you the South Carolina."
There was a round of applause and the ceremony was concluded. "Mr Parsons I have your orders." He pulled the Commander to one side "Things go badly in this sector and I need every ship I can get out there at full readyiness. Otherwise I would have waited for Captain Drago to return. You have a new ship and some new crew and I m not about to send such an unprepared ship out there regardless of how desperate I am. You are to take the South Carolina on a shake down tour. You should be able to manage that right?"
TAG PArsons.

"Mr Parsons," Admiral Lin greeted the Acting CO as he arrived on the bridge. Adam stood with his other senior officers on the bridge.
"Sir," Parsons acknowledged.
"Lets get this dedication started" Magellan replied taking center stage on the bridge.
Lin began the short ceremony and the crew heard for the first time that the South Carolina would indeed be their new home. She would officially be redesignated the USS Salvezza after Captain Drago reassumed command.
"Mr Parsons do you accept care of this new vessel"
"I do, Admiral. On behalf of the crew and myself, I accept command and care of the USS South Carolina with all the rights and responsibilities of that trust," the Acting CO responded.
"Very well. I hereby assign this vessel to your provisional command and wish you and all your crew good luck and fair sailing. I give you the South Carolina."
There was a round of applause and the ceremony was concluded.
"Mr Parsons I have your orders." The Admiral pulled the Commander to one side, "things are going badly in this sector and I need every ship I can get out there at full readiness. Otherwise I would have waited for Captain Drago to return. You have a new ship and some new crew and I m not about to send such an unprepared ship out there regardless of how desperate I am. You are to take the South Carolina on a shake down tour. You should be able to manage that right?"
"Yes, Sir," Parsons said sharply.
Once their conversation was over and the Admiral had left the bridge, Parsons turned to Pride. "Commander Pride, ship's status?"

Illito looked around the walls of the sickbay of the South Carolina. They looked, to be sure, like the walls of most sickbays she'd been in. But there seemed to be something off about them that she couldn't quite put her finger on. “Sir?” Lieutenant Avel cautiously prodded, interrupting her thoughts.
“Lieutenant,” Illito replied, turning to face him. She'd been aware of him approaching, but she'd assumed he would walk by. They hadn't really talked much since the destruction of the Scavenger. Not that they'd precisely been best friends before. Or that Illito had really talked to many people at all since... “Can I help you?” she asked.
“I was wondering if you had time to answer a question for me before going to the recommissioning ceremony.”
“Depends on what the question is,” Illito replied lightly. She was already in her dress uniform, and she had a good fifteen minutes before she was supposed to be there. Of course, she was planning to be at least five minutes early.
“Would you be willing to write a letter for me, recommending me for an academic position.”
“Sure,” Illito responded immediately.
Illito had half-expected Avel to say something sarcastic about how happy she seemed to be to have him leave, but he didn't. He just smiled back at her and said “Thank you.”
“Where are you looking at going?”
“The Starfleet Academy at Beta Ursae Minor. I won't hear back whether or not I got the position for a good month, though.”
“Good luck,” Illito, then, after a delicate pause, “Any particular reason you think it's time to move on?”
“Tara and I have been thinking about the girls' futures. I've never thought a starship was a good environment to raise children in, and as Carla and Madeleine get older they're becoming more aware of the lack of other children in their age group. And the destruction of the Scavenger has just driven home how fragile we actually are.”
Illito nodded. “I'll send the letter as soon as I get a chance to write it.”
“Thank you. I do appreciate it. And...I'm sorry for everything.”
Illito didn't know just what to say to that. “I should get to the recommissioning ceremony,” she said, even though it was earlier than she'd originally planned. So she walked the long way, taking advantage to familiarize herself just a little more with the South Carolina.
“Very well. I hereby assign this vessel to your provisional command and wish you and all your crew good luck and fair sailing. I give you the South Carolina,” Magellan said, leaving Illito to reflect a little on the naming of the ships. When she'd joined the Scavenger, the name had been so very appropriate for how she felt, like a refugee who was clinging to what she had and making the most of her chances. But the South Carolina...Illito didn't even know what that meant.
She applauded with the others, then looked around at her crewmates. “I should probably go down to sickbay to make sure I beat the rush of people who will want to fulfill their requirement of having a physical, right?” she remarked softly and with humor to whoever was standing closest to her. But Pride was busy, and she was thinking she should get back to work anyway, rush of people or not.

He watched the events and smiled, at least they had a ship. He had things to do but wanted to see Illito when time permitted. Looking back at there acting Captain when he asked for a status report.
" Sir I'm still waiting for reports from all section heads, they just finished comeing aboard. I'll check with them with in the hour to see when we can depart. The chief Engineer wanted to brief you himself. I will make arrangements for him to see you and up date you, so far everything checks out. She make look old on the outside but she's a new ship on the inside, everything has been up dated"
" Commander Tras flight training has come along, he should be ready when we are ready to leave. If you will excuse me sir I would like to get with section heads and try to nail down a time for departure sir"
He left the bridge and head to sick bay, who said this job didn't have any perks. He had to check with all sections but nothing said which order that had to be. He arrived at sick bay and went inside. He saw Illito checking some equipment.
" I hope everthing meets with your approval my dear Doctor. So how are we doing" he smiled at her

“Where have you been?” Kirk heard from behind him.
He turned his head with a curious look and found himself being questioned by somebody he did not know, “Excuse me?” Kirk asked.
“Admiral Lin is in the middle of the dedication and you’re supposed to be on the bridge right now.” Urged the unknown officer.
“That is a gross misuse of time.” Kirk replied sharply.
“What???”
“I have the lives of the crew aboard this ship to concern myself with right now; a dedication ceremony will only waste my time.”
“But sir…”
“But nothing. Report back to the officer that sent you and inform them of my dedication to duty and to the lives of every member of this crew.”
The young officer raced away to inform whom ever it was that had sent him of the situation. Kirk knew that ceremonies were important to the Federation, it boosted moral aboard a ship, but Kirk could not pull himself from his work at such a critical time. It was in these last hours before departure where mistakes were made, sometimes deadly one and Kirk was not going to allow that to happen in his engine room.

Tras had remained near the door when Magellan officially handed command of the Carolina over to Parsons. He had mixed feelings about this, especially since he first had held command of this ship. Officially, he didn't mind not being in command and he claimed he didn't miss the hassle and the strain of it, but secretly he envied Parsons. The South Carolina was a good but old ship and though she had been refitted with the latest technology, she still remained aged.
Once Magellan was gone, Joseph Tras walked op to his new station and sat down at it, running his hand over the smooth surface of the console. He had overheard Pride telling Parsons that he was coming a fair way in fight training, but truth to be told, Tras felt he still had a long way to go. His reflexes were off and manual flight was just terrible. He knew he could rely on the autopilot most of the time, but if things got rough he needed to be able to fly on his own.
Sometimes, he wished he was just as normal as any person, with next to perfect hearing, but alas, he wasn't. And there was nothing any doctor could do for him, and not for lack of trying either. "Helm is ready to go," he reported, as he fired up his console, "helmsman is also as ready as he'll ever be and eager to test his newfound skills."

Illito looked up to smile at Pride as he entered. "I hope everything meets with your approval my dear Doctor. So how are we doing?" he asked.
"Good to see you," Illito's smile grew. "Sickbay is fully stocked and prepared for the usual. Which hopefully will include lots of people dropping by for their physicals," Illito replied. This list of people didn't include Pride himself, since he was up to date. "And I'm doing...better," she answered honestly. "It's good to be able to start settling in again."
"How have you been?" Illito asked Pride.
