--San Francisco Yards-- Capt. Curie beamed on to the shipyard. He walked to Admiral Delon his office. He rang the door.
--Admiral Delon’s office-- The door rang. "Enter" Delon said and James walked in. "Capt. Curie reporting as ordered, Sir." James said and stood to attention. "At ease Capt." Delon replied "Congratulations on your command. Do you like the Excalibur?" "Thank you. Yeah it’s a great ship fast and it has a good crew. I only haven’t met my security officers but that'll come." James said. "I'm sure about that. But I have a mission for the Excalibur, it's a easy one so you'll can get used to eachother. So are you up for it?" Delon asked. "I think we are, but what is the mission?" James asked "Well the Passenger Liner Maru is damaged by a gravitic mine on the edge of Klingon space. She was carrying 350 passengers and they are on a dead stop ther. We need the Excalibur to rescue the passengers and the Maru before the Klingons get them." Delon answered. "We'll go directly. Do I have permission to go into Klingon space if the Maru is in their space?" James asked. "You have permission, but in and out. Nothing more." Delon said "I'll sent all the data you need to the Excalibur. Dismissed." "Yes, Sir." James replied, stood up and walked away.
--Transporter room-- James Entered. "Crewman beam me to the Excalibur." James ordered. "Yes sir." The Ensign replied and James dematerialised.
-- Transporter room, USS Excalibur-- James rematerialised on the transporterpadd. He walked directly to the turbolift and entered. "Deck one." James ordered and the turbolift began to move.
--Bridge-- James entered the bridge and sat on his chair. "All hands this is the capt." James began "We're leaving the shipyard. I know most of you wanted a bit more time to get acquainted to this ship and you crew, but we're out of time. I know you all can do it. Curie out." "Helm leave the shipyard 1/4 impuls. Then Set a course for the Elmar system warp 5." James ordered "Sir, the Elmar systems is pretty close to the klingon border." Lt. Cmdr James said. "I know commander. You have your orders." James answered "All the senior staff please report for a briefing in 10 minutes."
OFF: Okay we're on our way. <TAG: Danny/Jack> do you write the briefing?

*On the Bridge of the Excalibur, Lt. Cmdr James had the watch when the alert came, as usual he sat at the helm not the in the Captains Chair. *
Ensign Welch: Sir incoming emergency traffic from Star Fleet.
James: On screen.
SF: Star Fleet operations to USS Excalibur, you are ordered to recall all personnel and begin preparations for emergency departure. Your Captain is in a briefing with Admiral Deleon and will be joining you shortly.
James: Aye Star Fleet; will comply Excalibur out: Give me internship. This is Lt. Commander James Yellow alert this is not a drill, XO to the bridge, make all emergency preparations to get underway.
Welch: Sir mission package incoming.
James: Thank you route all packets to proper station, authorization James Baker 4.
*Lt Cmdr James started studying the; destination listed in the Helm package. *
James: This all looks familiar; I hope this is a joke.
*Captain Curie entered the bridge. *
"Helm leave the shipyard 1/4 impulse. Then Set a course for the Elmar system warp 5." James ordered "Sir, the Elmar systems is pretty close to the Klingon border." Lt. Cmdr James said. "I know commander. You have your orders." James answered "All the senior staff please report for a briefing in 10 minutes."
James: Aye sir: I hope this works out better than my command test.
Curie: Why Mr. James according to your record you drew the test to a draw.
James: Yes sir I saved the KM but lost half of my ship.
Curie: Yes lets try to keep the ship in one piece and save the crew.
RJ.

Jack exited the Captain's Ready Room and entered the Bridge. He looked around. It was a fine ship. He had only just managed to finish the wiring and do the final diagnostics in Engineering before the Captain beamed aboard. He seemed like a sensible chap. Jack walked towards the nearest comm panel.
=^=Al Department heads, this is Commander Dawkins. Please report to the Briefing Room on the double. We have a lot to talk about. Dawkins out.=^=
- 10 minutes later -
The Department heads were assembled in the Briefing Room. Jack was still deep in thoughts. Good crew, speedy respons. He snapped out of it when the last officer sat down. Jack stood up. "Good morning. Good of you to come so quickly. I haven't met some of you yet. I'm Commander Dawkins, XO and Chief Engineer of the Excalibur. I assume you're all familiar with Captain Curie?" He pointed towards the Captain who was sitting at the head of the table. There was no response, so Jack continued. "We're in a bit of an emergency. The Passenger Liner Maru went off course due to a helms malfunction and they accidentally stranded on a gravitic mine on the wrong side of the Klingon border. Needless to say that your average portion of Klingon Ragh will be more alive than the crew of the Maru if the Klingons find her first. We've been despatched to find the Maru and evacuate the crew before the Klingons find them. If we do run into Klingons, there's not telling what will happen. Of course we will defend ourselves when attacked, but we should be very careful not to drag the entire Federation into a renewed armed conflict with the Klingon Empire. Are there any questions?"
Nobody responded. "Very well then. Captain, do you have any final words?" Curie shook his head. James looked around. "Return to your stations and prepare for a mass evacuation of the Maru. Dismissed."

Wills walked back out onto the bridge with excitement in his belly, after only being aboard a few hours he was already getting the chance to take part in his first mission as an officer.
He relieved his cover at the navigation/tactical console at the front of the bridge, and did a quick systems check, with the possibility of the ship facing a combat situation, he wanted to make sure the Excalibur was as prepared as was possible, no Klingons would be catching him unawares.
Wills also checked for the umpteenth time the course he had plotted, and transmitted to Lt. Commander James before the briefing, although the sensors couldn’t detect anything on their path that should cause a problem, Wills just couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something. Probably first time nerves he told himself, as he again saw the path was indeed clear.
“Don’t worry so much Lieutenant,” Commander James whispered from the helm console opposite him, “just relax.”
Wills looked up at him and smiled, “Is it that obvious I am worried?”
“No, not at all,” James said with a smile, and turned his attention back to his own console. Wills did the same, and tried to take his mind off from the course heading by continuing with his tactical systems check, he was interrupted from his work by a tap on the shoulder. He looked up to see Dr. Kwani looking down at him, her arms folded.
“Doctor?”
“Time for your physical Mr. Richards,” Kwani said with a smile, “Down to sickbay with you.”
“But I am…”
“No buts Lieutenant,” Kwani said sternly, “sickbay, now.”
“Yes doctor,” Wills answered, turning his console back over to his relief, and following Dr. Kwani to the turbo lift.
OCC: Thought I would you a way to work yourself in Karen.

The doors to sick bay opened as the Doctor and Lieutenant strolled into a pile of containers. Med kits and supplies were heaped upon each other in tall stacks. There was barely enough room to navigate through the maze of bins.
“How’s it coming along, Ensign?” Kawani asked an unusually high tower of containers.
A head popped up from behind a cargo crate. “Not bad, Doctor. I’ve got three whole boxes unpacked now.” Ensign John Mann smiled faintly. At this rate, it would take him two days to unpack everything. He was breaking into a sweat trying to meet the Doctor’s standard for organizing her sick bay. Mia’s personality was easy to get along with but her overdeveloped desire for organization was pushing the young nurse’s endurance threshold. Nevertheless, he wanted to do things according to her preferences. He knew why she was such a stickler for organization. A well-organized medical facility meant greater efficiency and, in times of crisis, it could mean the difference between life and death.
“Good work.” Miakoda Kawani liked things her way and she was pleased with Ensign Mann’s progress. He was intelligent and eager to please. She knew they would work well together.
“Now,” she said, addressing Richards, “Make yourself comfortable, Lieutenant.” The doctor tipped the exam table up and he dutifully leaned back against the upright bed. A quick flip and Mia had her patient horizontal. The readouts immediately blinked to life in the panel above the bed and she studied them intently. She then reached for a bio scanner, passing it over the young man’s torso. Mia’s brow furrowed as she watched the readouts.
“Will I live, Doctor?” Richards quipped with a smirk. To his dismay, she didn’t answer him. “What is it, Doc? What’s wrong with me?” He was beginning to grow panicky. All the pressure and newness was wearing his nerves thin causing him to think the worst.
“Relax, Mr. Richards. You’re in excellent health.” Wills breathed a sigh of relief.
Mia consulted her medical records. “Everything seems to be in order… with one small exception… you need several immunizations that seem to have been neglected.” In a few seconds she had the hypo ready and pressed it against his neck. The hiss of the instrument delivered its contents into his bloodstream. She was notating the procedure in his records as the Lieutenant started to get up. “Wait just a minute, Lieutenant. I’m not finished with you yet.”
“But you’ve run all your scans… even gave me a shot… what more can there be?”
Doctor Kawani tossed a gown at him. “I’m an old-fashioned Doctor, Mr. Richards. These scanners and readouts only tell a physician so much. There’s something to be said for a good, old-fashioned, hands-on physical exam. Please step behind the partition and put on this gown.” The Lieutenant’s eyes grew wide as he realized what the Doctor meant. Noting his reaction she added, “I am a Doctor, Mr. Richards. You have nothing that I’ve not already seen hundreds of times.”
“Uhhh… erm… I know that… but… all those other hundreds weren’t mine.”
“I can always have Nurse Mann assist you if there’s a problem, Lieutenant.”
John peered from behind a container with a smile on his face. He was obviously enjoying Wills’ discomfort.
“That won’t be necessary,” Richards replied, trying hard to regain his composure.

Wishing his face wasn’t so red, Wills stepped behind the curtain, and started to remove his uniform, he knew in past times Doctor’s inspected patients in this manner, but he had not heard of it being practiced for a long time. He couldn’t help but think that Dr. Kwani was enjoying his embarrassment somehow.
Very slowly, Wills stepped out behind the curtain, Dr. Kwani gave him a very serious looked, as she eyed him up and down, making Wills feel even more uncomfortable, it felt like being an animal in a zoo cage.
“How did you get that scar Lieutenant?” Kwani asked, as she scanned the large mark across Wills chest.
“I was a bit too adventurous when I was a kid,” Wills explained, “had a nasty encounter with a sword during a game of Knights.”
“Boys and their toys,” Dr. Kwani remarked, as she finished scanning the scar, “other dangerous past times I should know about?”
“I enjoy rock climbing,” Wills shrugged, “wouldn’t mind trying orbital sky diving sometime.”
Dr. Kwani gave him a discouraging look, “and I suppose you expect me to fix you up after all these little games?”
“Maybe you could join me on some of those ‘little games’,” Wills said seriously.
Dr. Kwani crossed her arms; she had a very un-amused look on her face, a quick glance at Nurse Mann told Wills he was starting to dig himself a hole.
“Or not,” Wills said with a smile, “just an idea to try and make some friends here.”
“Indeed,” Dr. Kwani answered, now walking around Wills, still scanning him with a medical tricorder, “well, you seem to be in as good as health as my scans suggested,” she said crisply, fixing her scanner back to the tricorder, “you may re-dress.”
Glad to be finally back in his uniform, Wills took a good look round sickbay, it was the first time he had seen one of this size, the sickbay on the Warwick, had been much smaller, and a lot more simple. But the Excalibur was a ship of the line, and her sickbay reflected that.
“I’ll be in the officers mess tonight,” Dr. Kwani said, when she noticed Wills had reappeared from the curtain.
“Doctor?” Wills asked confused.
“Like you said Lieutenant,” Dr. Kwani said with a smile, “all of us need to make friends here.”
“I’ll see you there then,” Wills replied, returning Dr. Kwani’s smile, “and if we going to be friends, please, call me Wills.” When Wills walked out of sickbay it was with a smile on his face, he enjoyed meeting new people, and making friends, and it just looked like he had made his first friend on the ship, apart from Charlie of course.
Walking back out onto the bridge, Captain Curie greeted him, “Get a clean bill of health Lieutenant?” the Captain asked.
“Aye sir,” Wills answered, taking his station, “although I think the good Doctor said something seeing you soon…”
As a look of horror came over Curies face, Wills had to turn away to hide his smile.
“Just wait until he finds out how ‘hands on’ she is,” he muttered to himself, as he returned to his duties.

James stepped on the bridge. "Helm status?" James asked. "We're on our way to the Elmar system at warp 5. ATE 10 hours." Robert replied "Good work." James complimented the officer "Tactical I want a tactical report in 30 minutes on the Elron system and the readynes of the ship." "You'll have it." Lt. Richards replied "Are you expecting trouble?" Robert asked. "I'm not expecting it. But I want to be ready as possible." James answered.
==^==Cmdr. Dawkins. What is the maximum speed you can give me?==^==
<TAG: Dawkins>
==^==Prepair for max. warp. I want to be ASAP at the Maru. Also run a shield diagnostic.==^==
<TAG: Dawkins>
==^==Thank you. Curie out.==^==

Jonathan almost laughed his head off while Lt. Richards was having his physical. Luckily, John had gotten his physical done only a week before the CMO arrived on the ship.
The fourth box proved as dull as the first three. Lt. Richards finished his physical and exited the room rather quickly. Ensign Mann grinned again, and finished unpacking the box.
"Doctor," asked John,"do you have your personalized version of the set-up of Sickbay? As in, where everything goes?"
(Miakoda)
"All right," replied Jonathan. He continued unpacking the boxes.

Thirty minutes later, Wills had prepared a full tactical report on the Elron system, and had the latest reports on the ship’s status, the majority of the ship’s systems were fine, but the torpedo room was reporting a slight delay within the launching mechanism, something that they believed they could have corrected within ten hours. Wills told Captain Curie this
<tag Curie>
“Of course sir, I’ll make sure they know.” <tag Curie>
“Yes, I have the report on the Elron system too, as we know its fairly close to the Klingon boarder, oddly for such a location, it is a part of several major trading lines, we are the only Federation starship in the area.”
<tag Curie>
“There have been no sightings of Klingon ships in the area no sir, but, Intelligence believes the Klingons could be operating with a Romulan cloaking device, as part of there tactical alliance.”
A short while later, the Excalibur dropped out of warp, and proceeded at impulse speeds to the reported location of the Maru.
“Captain this is strange,” Commander James said, in a puzzled tone, “I am not detecting the Maru.”
“What do you mean not detecting?” Curie asked, leaning forward in his chair.
“Just what I said Captain,” James answered, “It isn’t there.”
“My sensors say the same thing,” Wills chipped in, “no sign of the Maru.”
“Can you detect a warp trail?” Curie asked, “Perhaps another ship answered the distress call.”
“I’ll start scanning now,” James replied, logging into the central sensor systems.
“I’ll check over the fleet comm logs, see if anyone else reported seeing/rescuing the Maru,” Wills said, pulling out his own communication head piece. This really was strange, ships just didn’t disappear.

The Excalibur exited warp at the edge of the system and moved in on impulse engines. It was a shimmering grey/white against the black of space. It stood out like penguin on an iceberg. Hardly difficult prey. "We should strike now" "GHOBE'" T'mok grunted, "not yet" "They are federation dogs." K'Temoc replied from tactical, "Hlja,they are. But let us be patient." k'Temoc growled but relented. "We have the advantage. We can remain undetected. This cloak is a marvellous invention." "Romulan trash." muttered Kroll at Science "Your getting old Kroll. This is the way forward." "Bah Romulan yintagh" T'Mok ignored him. "Look they are searching for something. It might be something interesting. Let us follow them and see what it is these Federation P'tahks are up to" The decision made, the D-7 cruiser took up position to watch the Excalibur.

*As RJ made the adjustments to engage the impulse engines, one of the new sensors set off an alarm and brought up the shields.*
James: Sir the shields have just gone up? * James activated the tactical sensor, as it rose from the helm station he looked into it* my sensors are picking up an unspecified threat. It is reading as a distortion in the visual star field and is moving at 1/4 impulse on a parallel coerce. It may be a sensor ghost but it looks similar to the distortions recorded by the Enterprise during that incident with the Romulins last year.

"Sir sir. They have raised shields" K'Temoc declared, "They mean to attack us." "HOLD" T'Mok shouted gruffly "What! They will attack" "If they could they would have done so already. In fact they are not even turning towards us. Kroll is there anyway they could detect us." "No... ah" Kroll answered "Ah. What is ah" "There is a minor variance in the cloak, it may have triggered their sensors." "Can they pinpoint us?" "No." "Can you fix it?" "Yes. Give me a few mins." "Excellent. Helm back us off. We can soon find them again." "Bah. This is a cowards way out." T Mok rose to his feet and pulled his D'tahg, "You want to challenge me?" K Temoc looked at his Captain a broad man and nearly a head taller. "No sir" "Then back us away." Slowly the T'Koth moved away from the Excalibur placing a dust cloud between them.

*Lt Cmdr James could not shake the feeling that something was not right. As second Officer and since the XO's spot in combat was in Engineering RJ made the decision to double up on science and helm. Making a slight adjustment he slaved the science one output to the right half of his tactical viewer. The ensign covering for the Science Officer just was still too intimidated to sound off with information that was not concrete.*
James: Sir my sensor ghost just changed course and disappeared behind an ionized debris cloud. Debris reads as Klingon more than 50 years by the decay rate of the radiation. Still no sign of the Maru. but I am reading a faint impulse trail which does not match anything in our records.

OFF: Sorry all for me not posting somuch this week. I had exams and I had to learn and when I didn't learn I was pooped. I'll better. Therefore I post to parts Part one before we reach the Elmar system and the TAGs of mr. Richards and part 2 where Cmdr Robert James left of.
ON: Part 1: Thirty minutes later, Wills had prepared a full tactical report on the Elron system, and had the latest reports on the ship’s status, the majority of the ship’s systems were fine, but the torpedo room was reporting a slight delay within the launching mechanism, something that they believed they could have corrected within ten hours. Wills told Captain Curie this
"That's not acceptable. I need torpedo's in 5 hours. How they do it I don't care as long as I get torpedo's." James replied
"Of course sir, I’ll make sure they know."
"Good. Also do you have a tactical report on the Elmar system for me?" James asked
"Yes, I have the report on the Elmar system too, as we know its fairly close to the Klingon boarder, oddly for such a location, it is a part of several major trading lines, we are the only Federation starship in the area."
"And What about Klingon ships?" James asked
"There have been no sightings of Klingon ships in the area no sir, but, Intelligence believes the Klingons could be operating with a Romulan cloaking device, as part of there tactical alliance." "Good thank you for the report Mr. Richards. Take your place." James replied.
Part 2: "See where it leads to Mr. Richards. Mr James continue to follow the sensor ghost." Curie ordered. "Yes, sir." The two officers replied. "Also go to red alert. It can't be coincidence that we are this close to the border and we have a sensor ghost." Curie replied. ==^==Engineering status report==^==
<TAG: Dawkins>
==^==That's okay. Curie out==^==
And that's when James came to his idea. "Cmdr. James. What can you tell me about the sensor ghost before it vanished?" Curie asked
<TAG: James>
"If it is a Klingon ship, could we make it visible if we fly through a class 16 nebula?" Curie asked
<TAG: James >
"There is one about 5 parsecs from here." Sam answered.
OFF Well this should get interesting. What will the Klingons do? And what is the trace we found?

==^==Engineering status report==^== <TAG: Dawkins>
Jack and his Engineering crew were working like crazy.
=^=Dawkins here Captain. Nothing exciting to report as yet. I've analyzed the data from Tactical and Science. teh sensor ghosts displays some unusual readings, not very dissimilar to a black hole, but I've never heard of a moving black hole or one of this small size for that matter. We're still working on it. We have been able to pick up the impulse trail our sensors showed earlier, but we cannot be certain whether it matches the pattern of the Maru. The trail is so faint taht we can't be certain of anything at this point, but we're running cross references nonetheless. I could modify the sensors to pick up a wider spectrum of gasses and exhaust fumes. It'd take an hour, maybe slightly more but our chances of finding anything will increase exponentially=^=
It took some time for Captain Curie to respond.
=^=Do it. Curie out=^=
Just before the Captain could shut off the comlink, Jack managed to squeeze in.
=^=Ehm Captain, just one last thing. I heard some rumour that you wanted the torpedo tubes ready in five hours..........that may not be exactly possible you see........=^=
Captain Curie didn't even allow him to finish his sentence.
=^=Actually, when I issued the order it was five hours Commander. Now it's more like 4 hours, 39 minutes, 9 seconds and counting. You have your orders. Perform a miracle if you have to but I need those tubes. Curie out=^=
In Engineering, Jack walked around muttering something which very much resembled "charming fellow. Perform a miracle if you have to. Hmpf, easy for him to say. Peform a miracle. Right" It wasn't that Jack disliked the Captain. He knew he was right. The Excalibur couldn't go near Klingon territory without full use of its torpedo tubes but it might be somewhat impossible to comply with the Captain's orders. James punched some buttons on his sensor schematic display. "Idiots at Utopia Planetia. They do this every single time. They screw up on the blueprints and who gets to fix it.....ME!"
An hour later, Jack had cooled down and finished most of his sensor calibrations. He had also dspatched two Engineering teams to the torpedo tubes to fix the builders' screw ups. The turboloft doors hissed open and Jack entered the Bridge. He walked straight to the Captain. "Sensor calibration nearly complete sir. I can do the rest from up here. I've sent all available data on the impulse trail and the anomaly to Science and Tactical for further analysis." Captain Curie answered, "Very well Commander, proceed." Jack took his place behind the Engineering station and resumed his sensor calibrations.

The T Koth shadowed the Excalibur for another hour before Kroll noticed something, "Sir, The Excalibur is entering a nebula. It will allow them to detect us." "How, I thought this cloak was impenetrable?" "Its not the cloak, the nebula will show our engines wake." "Hah, This captains clever, he suspects we're here. What is it hes after? Hmm I wonder, a ship perhaps. Yes. Kroll are we still recieving telemetry from our mines?" "Yes all but one" "Aha which one" "Its near Jatiana III" "Excellent. Anywhere there for a ship to crash on." "Yes. The planet is Class M but it also has 16 habitable moons." "Hmm, looks like the hunt is on. We'll take what they are looking for and use them to lure them in to our jaws. Qaplah"

Konrad looked at the busy bridge he entered. No one has informed him about he must be ready. That sleep drug the doctor given him proven a lot stronger than he thought. He slowly walked towards the Science station and taken the control there.
He closely listened to the talks between the bridge crew and he soon finded out that they are going after a sensor ghost.
Konrad increased a few theories in his mind about finding a sensor ghost. First if it was a ship they easily can detect its presence when they have entered the nebula; but Konrad will be giving them no chances of escape.
He increased the sensor in and outputs so the feed will be far greater than the current status. He started to scan for every anomalies that he thinked that must not be present at the nebula.
A few asteroid particles, some ship derelicts, several celestial emmisions; but he got no presence of a vessel of anykind. Then suddenly he noticed the most unusual thing he ever can see.
"Sir, i am detecting a warp trail exiting out of the system" Konrad reported.

Jack occupied the Captain's chair. His Engineering crew could manage down in Engineering without him for a while and the Captain needed some time to catch up on some long overdue paperwork. Paperwork, the downside of command, Jack thought. They should never have invented the concept. Then again, it was hard to keep track of so many things without paperwork. But yet, a starship commander had other things to worry about than nagging bureaucratic Starfleet officials without the slightest bit of life experience.
Jack returned to the world with a shock. In his mind he had been pestering the bureaucrats at Starfleet HQ, but Mr Kurtz's report brought him back to the here and now. "Let's see it Mr Kurtz," Jack said and looked at the data on kurtz's console. Kurtz was right, there was a warp trail visible in the system. It was faint, but it was there. What troibled Jack mostly was that it wasn't Starfleet. It wasn't Starfleet at all. The Engineering officer at Jack's Engineering station on the Bridge spoke up and gave exactly the answer Jack feared he would give. "Commander, the signal is Klingon sir."
For a tenth of a second Jack still hoped the Klingons would have left the system by now, but suddenly the Excalibur's proximity sensors kicked in. Jack responded immediately. "Red alert, all hands battle stations, Captain Curie to the bridge!" Jack ran over to the Engineering station and started punching buttons. Auxiliary sensors came to life and Jack displayed the sensor output on the viewer.
Captain Curie entered the bridge and yelled, "Report!" before taking place in the Captain's chair. Jack immediately responded. "Sir, Mr Kurtz detected a warp trail in the system. Sensors and computer cross references indicate it's a Klingon warp signature. Proximity alert went off a few minutes ago, but nothing has happened. Crew are at battle stations, awaiting your orders Captain." Curie surveyed the situation. "Very well Commander, keep scanning the area. Good work Mr Kurtz." Jack looked at his sensor outputs for another few minutes, but nothing happened. "Stand down red alert, maintain weapon readiness, keep the shields up," he ordered after another few minutes.
- A few hours later, Commander Dawkins's quarters -
Jack couldn't shake it. He couldn't stop thinking about the encounter with.........well, with what? Klingons? Aliens? Space debris? The Easter Bunny? For all he knew it could be any of those, or all of them. Then the thought hit him like a sledge hammer. A cloak. Of course, why didn't he think of it before?
- Briefing Room, 15 minutes later -
"Be seated," Captain Curie ordered. "It seems our adversaries have advanced a step. They have found some way to bend the light or......well, we don't know yet, but somehow the Klingons have managed to make their ships invisible to sensors. For easy reference, you might want to call it a cloak," Curie continued. "Oh come on, get real," Lieutenant Richards interrupted. "no offense Captain, but that's impossible This is the real world, not some science fiction series."
Jack looked at him. "Quite right Lieutenant, quite right. Here's what we've got. So far, our proximity alert's been triggered twice and each time, nothing could be seen, except for a small anomalous sensor reading that could be classified as a miniature black hole. Since black holes that size do not exist and are physically impossible, there are two other options. The first is a sensor glitch, but since I ran the level 1 diagnostics on the sensors myself, I can rule that out. Also, it occurred only when the proximity sensors triggered the proximity alert. I don't believe in that kind of coincicence. The second option is some kind of Klingon cloaking device, which would be supported by the fact that Mr Kurtz discovered a Klingon warp trail that leads directly into this system, but hasn't left the system again. They're still around and we can't pinpoint them. They must be hiding somewhere, but apart from the rather transparent nebula a few parsecs away, there is no place they can hide and our senors know every particle in that nebula by hart. Who was it again that said "when all other possibilities fail, what remains, however unlikely is the truth" or any such Vulcan wisdom crap?"
It was silent for a moment. "Right," Captain Curie broke the silence. "At least we know their cloak is not fool proof. Whether it's a fault in their design or a malfunction on this particular ship we cannot say yet, but at least we now have a clue what to look for. Any questions?" There was a silence. "Very well, dismissed."

Back at on the bridge, Lt. Richards was checking through the logs of the Enterprise’s encounter with the experimental cloaked Romulan ship a few years before, maybe there would be some clue as to detect this new Klingon technology in the sensor records from the Enterprise.
The bridge it self was abuzz with activity, with a Red Alert being called twice in one day, the entire crew were all now on alert, and each station on the bridge was manned, everyone ready to go to battle at any moment.
Even the boys down in the torpedo room had sped up their work after the reports on the Klingon ship came through, although the powerful weapons were not fully operational yet, they were getting there, hopefully they would meet the Captain’s target time.
Finding nothing of use in the database, Richards returned to his earlier task of analysing the impulse signature they had detected, Commander Dawkins and his team had enhanced the long-range sensors, so with a bit of luck, and with some close working between Tactical and Science, Richards figured they should find something.
However, before Richards could access the senor grid, his attention was distracted by an announcement from the communication officer.
“I am receiving a distress call.”
“From where?” Commander Dawkins asked, turning to look at the young woman.
“The Jatiana system,” the officer replied, “it’s very badly distorted, I can hardly make it out.”
“Commander, Jatiana is very close to the Klingon boarder”, Richards piped in, “but it’s close enough that the Maru could have drifted there.”
Richards waited for the First Officers reply.
OCC: Bit of a short post, but I got to catch up on my other sims as well, been away at a sci-fi convention. I am presuming from Magellan’s post about the Klingons going to Jatiana, that they are planning to lay a trap for us of some kind, could be interesting.

Jack thought for a moment. Then he made his decision. "Thank you Mr Richards. Set a course to the Jatiana system, warp 5." "Aye sir," Lieutenant Richards answered eagerly. Jack could see it on everyone's face. Finally, something would happen. Jack only hoped that that "something" would not mean a renewed Federation-Klingon war. Jack walked over to the wall and pressed a button on the comm panel. "Engineering, this is Commander Dawkins. We've received a distress call, probably from the Maru. I want warp 9 on those torpedoes. Dawkins out." He punched in another sequence. "Captain, could you come to the Bridge sir. Lieutenant Richards has found the Maru." Jack walked back to the Engineering station while the doors to the captain's Ready Room opened and the Captain enetered the Bridge. "Captain, Lieutenant Richards picked up a distress call which is most likely from the Maru. It's from the Jatiana system close to the Klingon border. I've ordered the ship to Mr Richards's coordinates. Engineering is making a final effort on the torpedoes and they should be ready before we get there."

Quote: "Oh come on, get real," Lieutenant Richards interrupted. "No offense Captain, but that's impossible this is the real world, not some science fiction series." (RJ just sighed and thought kids James: Sir it is not science fiction it is science fact. After the M5 incident I studied all the Enterprise logs to try and understand the command crew and how they could be involved in the death of the original crew of this ship. Cmdr. Spock and Cmdr Scott both wrote reports and papers on the incident, with the Romulins last year. All sensor parameters point to this being a Romulins cloaking system installed on a Klingon ship. Intellangce reports that the Romulins are using Klingon ships so it is not a great stretch to think they have given the Klingons a first generation cloak. Quote: It was silent for a moment. "Right," Captain Curie broke the silence. "At least we know their cloak is not fool proof. Whether it's a fault in their design or a malfunction on this particular ship we cannot say yet, but at least we now have a clue what to look for. Any questions?" There was a silence. "Very well, dismissed." *James left the briefing room and headed back to his station on the bridge. He continued scanning the area and then heard the captain order:” Set a course to the Jatiana system, warp 5." As the course was set by the Navigator RJ entered the commands to take the ship to warp.* James: Course laid in and set, engaging at warp 5. *The Excal jumped to warp for the Jatiana system and the source of the distress call.* RJ.

James had finished his paper work. **Maybe I need to do it more ofeten than once a week, that would keep me form do so much in one time.** James tought.
--Bridge-- James entered and Cmdr. Dawkins stood up from the capt. chair. "Report" James ordered 'Sir, we've traced the warp trail back to the Jatiana system. We think the Maru is there." Dawkins told the capt. "Good commander. Mr James set a course for the Jatiana system. Warp 5." James ordered and Cmdr. James kicked the ship in warp 5 "ETA?"

As the Excalibur flew into high warp, heading for the Jatiana system, its bridge crew were busying themselves getting the ship ready for the unknown dangers that lay ahead.
At the Navigation/Tactical station, Lieutenant William Richards was keeping constant check on the ship’s long-range sensors, looking for any signs of the Klingon ship they had briefly detected. If as they believed the Klingon’s were operating with a Romulan cloaking device, it was near perfect, Richards could detect no sign of the ship.
Of course the other ship Richards was watching for was the Maru herself, the distress call they had picked up, suggested that the missing ship was somewhere in the Jatiana system, but they had still be unable to pick up any sign of her. If she was indeed in the system somewhere, she was apparently well hidden, that or she had been destroyed.
Next to Richards, Commander James was also watching the tactical console closely, in the event that a Klingon ship did appear, it would be up to the duo to control the ship’s tactical systems, and both wanted to make sure that the Excalibur was ready for anything.
A few short minutes before, James and Richards had given Captain Curie their report on the Jatiana system itself. Officially it was a neutral system, with neither the Klingons nor the Federation claiming ownership, a group of humans had settled a colony on Jatiana III a few years ago, but they were not part of the Federation.
The last Starfleet vessel in the area had reported that Jatiana had an advanced planetary defence grid, the ever-present threat of a Klingon invasion warranted such a high level of defence. Long-range observation had been monitoring Klingon ship movements in the area, but recently there had been little in the way of Klingon activity in the area. Or at least as far as Starfleet’s current sensors could tell, if indeed the Klingons were operating with cloaking devices now, then the most powerful sensors in Starfleet wouldn’t be able to detect them.
“Now entering the Jatiana system,” Commander James reported, “dropping to impulse power.”
“Prepare for a full sensor sweep,” Captain Curie ordered, “trace the location of the distress call, if the Maru is out there, I want to know.”
“Captain!” Richards called out, interrupting Curie, “I am detecting what appears to be evidence of a space battle that took place sometime in the last twenty four hours.”
“Be more specific Lieutenant,” Curie said, leaning forwards in his chair.
“There is a large amount of debris in the area, sensor readings are constant with multiple disrupter blasts.”
“Does the debris belong to the Maru?”
“Unknown at this time sir,” James reported, reading from the same tactical screen as Richards, “we would need to move closer in.”
“Then by all means gentleman,” Curie ordered, leaning back into his chair, “move us in.”

The atmosphere on the Excalibur was tense; all eyes were fixed onto the duty stations, everyone looking for the slightest clue as to what might happen next. William Richards was watching his console just as closely, determined that no Klingons would surprise him, or that any trap would be spotted.
“Report,” Captain Curie ordered, breaking the silence that had filled the bridge.
“We will be in range of the debris in ten minutes,” Commander Robert James reported, “I can increase speed if you wish?”
“Ten minutes will be fine Commander,” Curie said, “Science stand ready to launch a class three probe once we are in range, Mr. Richards beam a piece of the debris into the cargo bay when you can.”
“Aye sir,” both officers replied.
William logged himself into the transporter system, and began scanning for the nearest, and biggest piece of debris, finding a sizable piece fairly close to the debris circle; he stood by to beam it aboard as soon as they were in range.
“We are approaching the debris field,” James reported, “dropping speed to one quarter.”
“Locking onto to debris piece,” William called out, “energising … now.”
“Bridge to Engineering, Commander Dawkins, get down to the cargo bay, we have some debris I want you to analyse,” Curie said over the comm system.
“Captain!” William called out urgently, “an energy wave of extreme proportion is moving towards us.”
Dum, dum, dum …

*RJ noticed the energy spike in his viewer and initiated an evasive move away from the debree field and engaged the warp drive.*
Quote:“Captain!” William called out urgently, “an energy wave of extreme proportion is moving towards us.”
Dum, dum, dum … James: executing evasive maneuver sulu beta.
*As the Excalibur turned and began her jump to warp RJ doubled the shields to the rear; but which would win the race the new warp engines or the unknown energy wave?
RJ.
OFF: Sory but I was not able to log into the boards. I still do not know why, it showed me loged in but did not show me anything except the email verify log in. James/Arok/Traks
