Richards looked up and smiled as he saw Mira Green approached, a large PADD in her hands.
“Hello Lieutenant,” the young woman said as she walked up to his biobed.
“Hello Mira,” Richards said, sitting himself up, “to what do I owe the honour?”
“Work I am afraid,” Mira said with a small smile, “that’s if you are up to it?”
Richards saw Nurse Mann’s head spin round looking viciously at the padd in Mira’s hand. Mira noticed and blushed a little under the intense stare.
“I only want to him to check over my findings!” she said quickly, “I promise, nothing more.”
“See that it isn’t,” Mann answered, “the Doctor’s orders were clear, he isn’t to execrate himself.”
“It’s reviewing some technical specs,” Richards protested, “its not like I am back on the bridge.”
When Mann nodded his head in rough agreement, Mira handed Richards the padd to look over. As he read the specifications, he found himself being very impressed with the young woman’s work; he doubted he would have been able to do better himself.
“This is very impressive Mira,” Richards said, nodding his head in appreciation of the work Mira had done during his absence.
“Thank you Sir,” Mira said, beaming from ear to ear, “thank you very much.”
She all but skipped as she left the sickbay to implement the technology, Richards caught Mann looking at him with a disapproving look on his face.
“Don’t even think about it,” Mann said sternly, “no work related tasks until the Doctor gives the ok!”

She finds no one in engineering is willing to work with her on this, and she gets in a heated discussion with the chief engineer. She eventually looses her temper, and pops him one just to shut him up. Since no one cared about fixing this, she goes to fix it herself hoping she gets this right. She is able to fix the sensor grid, and heads off to report.
On the bridge, she spots the person in charge. She walks up to him, and stands at attention.
"Report." this person says.
"Sir, the sensor grid was tampered with, but has now been fixed. We can scan and pick up cloaked vessel." She says not mentioning what happened in engineering. Unfortunately a security guard comes out of nowhere to arrest her.
"What is going on here?" the same officer asks.
"She is under arrest sir. She hit a superior officer." The guard says, and continues to make his arrest.

Jack was flabbergasted. Never before had a junior officer hit him, let alone an ordinary crewman. He was angry and surprised at the same time and so stunned that he didn't even drag her to the Brig himself. In retrospect, he should have knocked her to the floor to make sure she would never even consider hitting a superior officer again. Jack saw the stunned faces of the Engineering crew. "Get back to work," he said briskly, before going to his office to call Security.
Three hours later, Jack thought the crewman would have been punished enough. He went up to the Brig. The Security officers on duty saluted him. He returned their salute and went over to the only occupied cell in the block. Crewman KAT immediately jumped to attention. She started saying something, but Jack interrupted her. "Shut up and listen crewman. I'm not used to being contradicted and I'm certainly not used to being hit by anyone. I understnd it was in the heat of the moment, but that's no excuse. I could court-martial your behind out of Starfleet for this." KAT sighed. She knew she had crossed the line. Jack continued. "Now you listen to me and you listen to me very carefully. I'm willing to let this pass, just for once. A temporary reprimand will appear on your record, but if you stay out of trouble for 1 Earth year, the reprimand will be erased and will not leave any permanent stain on your record. But hear this. I will not tolerate this behaviour again. You can disagree with me, you can even contradict me in private, but you will never ever hit me again. Do we have an understanding?"
KAT looked up, unable to believe her ears. Was Commander Dawkins really letting her off that easily? "Yes sir, we definately have an understanding sir." "Good," Jack said. He turned towards the guards. "Guards, release her, I'm not pressing charges." "Yes sir, immediately," the guard replied and de-activated the force field.
A few seconds later, KAT and Jack walked out of the Brig and each went his own way.

Kat sat in her cell for what seemed like an eternity. She thought they should have detained her in a place where she could at least fit right, but they hadn't. She was placed in the brig, and she was very much cramped. Finally the CEO came and said she could be released, and that seemed too good to be anything but a dream, and yet here she was walking back to the bridge to her station. She wanted to see if anything had happened while she was away. When she enters the bridge, many look her way as if they weren't expecting to ever see her again. She walks over to her station with her head down, and gets back to work.

Curie looked up as Kat walked back onto the bridge, and took her place at science. Dawson had already contacted him a few minutes before and told him of his plans to let Kat ‘off the hook’ for striking him down in engineering. Now the only person missing from the bridge crew was Lt. Richards, who was still down in sickbay receiving treatment for his injury.
“Are we ready to deploy the defence net?” Curie asked finally.
“Aye sir,” James answered, “all systems check ready.”
“Very well, open a channel to the Yogon’s homeworld.”
The image of an old Yogon appeared on screen, behind him were the reminder of the crew of the Maru, who’s disappearance had called the Excalibur to this region on space.
“The Klingons have agreed to leave you in peace,” Curie said confidently, “and we are ready to deploy the defence net.”
“Thank you Captain,” the lead Yogon said, “It is gratifying to think we will soon have our privacy returned to us.”
“Your more than welcome Minister,” Curie said, “are you ready to for us to beam aboard the Maru crew?”
There were smiles all around as the Minister gave his constant to the Maru crew being beamed aboard. Curie could see looks of relief on the faces of the Maru crewmembers, who had clearly expected never to see Earth again.
“Bring us into transporter range,” Curie ordered, “have the transporter room stand by to beam them aboard.”
Curie watched the images on the viewscreen infront of him, as all the humans disappeared in the golden beams of the transporters. Finally it was just the Yogon Minister left on the screen.
“Minister, I thank you,” Curie said sincerely, “I wish you and your people the best of luck.”
“Thank you Captain,” the minister answered, “may your ship always travel in peace.”
And with that note of thanks, the viewscreen switched back to an image of space, as the Yogon’s closed the channel.
“Set course for Starbase,” Curie ordered, “warp two.” He smiled as he watched the stars speed up into a blaze of light, as the Excalibur flew into warp.
OCC: Everyone please feel free to post finishing any storylines you want to complete from this mission, once again I take my hat off to you all for your excellent work on this first mission of the Excalibur. We will be starting our new mission very soon, in the meantime, everyone enjoy some R&R!

“Welcome back aboard Commander,” Curie said, putting his book down, “I trust all is well?”
Curie noticed that Dawkins was standing rather tense, almost as if something was on his mind. Recognising the expression of anger on the Engineer’s face, Curie stood up to face him.
“Are you ok Commander?”
“Captain, myself, Lt. Richards, and Nurse Mann were approached by a gentleman, claiming to be a passenger on the ship, who wished us to carry his rather excessive luggage,” Dawkins said in one angry continuous breath.
“I see you have met Governor Karr,” Curie said, smiling slightly, “he is indeed going to be our guest for this mission.”
“And the luggage?” Dawkins asked.
“I shall arrange for some crewman to help him,” Curie said reassuringly, “I’ll be briefing the entire staff on the mission as soon as everyone has returned to the ship.”
“With respect sir,” Dawkins said slowly, “we are surely better suited for a more changeling mission than being a mere passenger service.” Curie laughed at that, and then handed his XO the large padd he had received that contained his orders. He saw Dawkin’s eyebrows go up in surprise as he read the details of the other part of their mission.
“Command really thinks that could happen?” Dawkins asked shocked.
“Apparently,” Curie replied, “and if it does happen, Excalibur needs to be ready.”
“I’ll prep the crew,” Dawkins said, more to himself than to Curie, “we will be ready for anything.”
“Good,” Curie said, taking the padd back from Dawkins, “arrange for all the staff to report to the observation room, we will de-brief them there.”
Dawkins nodded his head, and then left the Captain’s quarters, resolved to conduct his duties to the best of his abilities. After he had left, Curie decided it was time he got back up the bridge, any senior staff coming aboard would look for him there first.
