OFF: Sorry this is a bit short. I am still getting back into the swing of things ON:Emelye screamed and took a couple of steps back. "I think I am hallucinating". T’Mar stared at Luke and Trust as they stood in the mouth of the cave. After a couple of seconds she had decided that they were actually her crew members. “It is alright commander, I believe it is just Q playing with us again.” Sulak had turned his attention to the two crewmembers and was scanning them. “In a few seconds we will know for sure,” he said. “I am comparing the scans I just took of them to previous ones. But I can tell you already that they are human, and very much alive.” Trust and Luke made there way further into the cave. Luke looked incredulous. “Alive? Of course we’re alive!” he boomed, his voice echoing through the cave. Sulak explained what Emelye had found. It was going dark outside, so they set a fire and settled in for the night. Hopefully they would all still be here in the morning, wherever 'here' was.

It was a rather uneventful night although some of the crew became somewhat agitated by a crying baby who was simply hungry very often. There was a river nearby and the doctor asked Luke and Trust to get some water. Some old pots were found in the cave which could be used as containers so they had some fresh water stored to drink. Emelye agreed and sent them away though she feared they might be gone for good this time. Her heart lightened when they came back after a short time. Early in the morning, T'Mar was on her feet again and conferred with her first officer. "It seems like we are stranded here without the means to contact anyone. If Q has apparently forgotten about us, we must set up a protected structure here around the cave." "Why would Q forget about us? Maybe he isn't done toying with us for a while" Emelye suggested. "Although he still hasn't made his purpose clear as he usually does what I understand from the Enterprise D reports." "He hasn't played any tricks on us for almost a day and there has for example been a conflict between the Q that has lead to some major sudden changes in the galaxy. Perhaps we have simply wandered into such a conflict. And untill we meet a Q or are rescued from this planet, we should make the best of it." Emelye sighed. "I agree, although I would rather be aboard the Scavy having a good night's sleep between soundproof bulkheads. Are you getting any sleep sir?" T'Mar nodded only slightly. "Almost enough, for a Vulcan. But I share in your wish to be aboard our ship. It would have been more comfortable. We need to construct tools for foraging purposes. I also suppose some of you would like to eat some meat once in a while. I am a skilled archer and I will show you how to make bows and arrows as we also need to defend ourselves." T'Mar set Luke and Trust to carving bows and Sovas was gathering materials for arrows. After instructing the crewmen, she returned to her husband and child. She found Sovek cooking some herbs and roots in a large bowl on the fire. "There is enough for everyone" he said. "I am certain the plants I've found are eatable." T'Mar lay down in her improvised bed. "I do not think it will be to everyone's taste but it will be satisfying." "I understand we will be staying here for an undefined period of time" he said. T'Mar was feeding the baby. "It is not in our hands what will happen. For now we must survive." Luke and Trust were outside targeting some trees. "It sure is different than a phaser" Luke said. "It's primitive" Trust replied. "I would give anything to get out of here and back to some modern comfort!" Luke sighed. "I think this bow is pretty cool, just like those guys in that fantasy movie we saw last week. I wish my bow was a little bigger, like those which those guys in the shiny armors had." "They died like rats those guys. They were sitting targets for those hideous guys. What did they call them? Urukai or something?" "Yeah. The rain really made the whole atmosphere of that battlesequence. I promis you when we get back, I'm gonna dig up more of those movies in the database." As Luke spoke of rain, thunder sounded and the rain started pouring from the sky. "We'd better get back inside" Luke said. "Agreed."

(ooc: As Q has internet problems I'll play for him, just to keep this going)
"It looks like the monsoon season" Emelye said. It had been raining all day now. "So much for target practice" Luke replied. "Excellent weather for watching a movie." "Or playing a card game." "I prefer board games" Luke smiled. "Maybe we could draw one on the ground and use stones as pieces." Luke picked up a stick and started drawing on the ground. Suddenly Q appeared and grinned at Luke. "So you like board games right?" Luke's face turned grim. "Well, at this moment, I'd like to go back home if you don't mind!" "Oh but I do mind" Q replied snickering. "I want to see if you all can survive." "So what's next, desert world? I'm sure the Vulcans will like that" he taunted him back. "Let's have it!" he growled. Emelye had called the Commodore who was eager to find out what Q wanted. "Ah Commodore, stunning as ever!" he cheered. "Hey, the bump is gone! Now it's a cute little girl isn't she?" "I am not impressed by your attempts to be comical" T'Mar replied. "And we will not satisfy your needs for pleasure." "Oooh, Commodore, you know in some cultures you would be talking quite sexy. No wonder you only get that pleasure once in seven years." "I do not suppose you will send us back to our ship?" "Oh sure but that's occupied by those bad guys right? And doesn't it happen a lot to you starfleet people? Your ship gets boarded and then you regain controll of your ship by some ingenious plan. That's so boring! You know what, I'll think of a nice game and I'll get back to you" he grinned and disappeared.

Q disappeared in a typical flas of light.
"That sounds ominous." Emleye broke the silence after a few uncomfortable seconds.
"What kind of game do you think he will come up with?" asked Trust. "You never can tell with a Q," replied Luke
Emelye went back to the corner where she had spent most of the atfernoon. She picked up a sharp rock that she had been using as knife and continued attaching feather to the end of all the staight sticks she had foudn earlier in the morning.
Luke wandered overand sat cross legged opposite her. "What are you doing?" He asked as he watced her deftly working the feathers. "Fletching" she replied, a slight smile crossing her face.
Luke looked closer and he realised that she was making arrows. "Hey! Those are great! I didn't know you could do that" Emelye smiled. "Archery was hobby of mine back at the academy"
"How about we have an impromtu fletching lesson to take our minds of Q's games? Then when we all have decent equipment I can show you haw to use it properly."
They all gathered around, even the commodore listening in, and started putting together some decent primitive weapons

T'Mar listened and watched Emelye teaching the crew which she did quite well. She thought of the old recurve bow hanging in her quarters which she had bought at a bazar in San Fransisco. It had been made for a movie and still bended well. T'Mar was working on one of the skins making a carrying bag for her child.
In the afternoon Sovas and Trust went scouting, Emelye and Luke went hunting and T'Mar and Sovek looked around for plants, fruits and seeds they could use. T'Mar's baby sat comfortly strapped on the commodore's back.
Meanwhile Q was considering subjecting the Scavenger crew to a battle. One with bad ods and an enemy which they would fear. And the setting should be epic and not too big. "Hmmm, what was on last movie night? An early twentyfirst century blockbuster right? But I should give them a formidable enemy to make it really exciting and see how they deal with it. Likely they will dash and run away. They will never be safe untill they defeat them."
(ooc: Which enemy would you like to fight?)

Q considered his scheme. "I don't really like mindless minions like Uruk hai or Borg for that matter. Even Jem'Hadar are mindless fighting machines. On the other hand, I wonder how long they would hold out." Q changed the scenery again again and the crew was in a medieval fortress. "Allright, let them simmer for a while. They'll see what's coming."
T'Mar found herself wearing a strange costume. "I wonder what this place is. And why we are dressed like this." Luke was chuckling. "I guess Q knows what movie we saw last week." "I have not watched movienights recently. Inform me commander." Luke took another look around. "Well, this is the fortress from the second film in a trilogy based on a fantasy novel. In the story, it is attacked by thousands of enemy soldiers. It was a really bad situation as the fortress was defended by only a couple of hundred men." "And Elves" Trust added. "Not according to the book" Luke replied. "Looks like the Vulcans here are dressed up as the Elves. Sir, the one with the red cloak was killed." T'Mar looked at her cloak. It was red. "I take it he was the leader? I am not yet in shape for combat! When will these forces come?" "When the rain starts, I guess" Luke replied. Emelye looked concerned. "It's getting dark. Dunsmore, go outside on the walls to look out. Commodore, you look neat but you must go into hiding. There are caves behind this complex." Trust No-one protested. "As far as I remember, there's no way out of those caves so she'll still be trapped and defenceless." "If we only had some large artilery, we would be allright" Sovas commented. He had seen the movie too. "But we don't." Luke returned. "It's still daylight and I don't see anything coming yet. We may have time to make a plan." "Good" T'Mar replied. "Return to your lookout position. Better, we will all go outside and create a plan toghether. Outside they had a good view of the valley and made a strategic plan, assuming Q was sending Uruk-hai at them like in the movie. In a distance some hundred people were slowly approaching. Luke told everyone that they were probably refugees. Once he was sure of that, they hid away so they would be able to mingle with the people. Luke and Trust became more cheerful. "It will be a rough night, but according to the story, tomorrowmorning an army of riders will show up to help. We only have to hold out that long" Trust said. T'Mar was less confident. "What if Q changes the scenario. We must prepare for the worst." They moved into a quiet corner. T'Mar hid herself and meditated to heal more quickly. As the evening came, they mingled among the other people.

T'Mar was sitting quietly in a corner occupying herself with her weapons, a sword and a large recurve bow. Sovas came to her with a helmet and a cloak. "I have pinched one of the 'elves' as Commander Dunsmore calls them. If you would remain wearing an identical uniform as their leader, it would look suspicious so I got you a grey cloak and a helmet." "Thankyou commander. It is becoming dark, we should go to our posts." They made sure they stayed close. The baby was hiding deep in the cave with her father as he was not trained in combat. "They are coming" Sovas murmured standing next to the commodore. T'Mar nodded. "I can see them too. They are quite many as Dunsmore predicted. Perhaps I should see more Terran cinematographic productions." The tall elf in the red cloak bade them to be silent. Luke and Trust were near the gate and were quite excited. "I never thought I'd be in a movie like this. I wonder what other tricks Q has up is sleeve" Luke whispered. Trust nodded. "According to the reports of the Enterprise, no one actually died during the runins with Q, except for those who got asimilated by the Borg when Q introduced them to these creeps." "I am wondering why we should ever do Q's bidding? We're standing here dressed up in heavy armor and awkward weapons" an ensign commented. Luke sighed. "Well in this scenario, we don't appear to have much choice and running away might not stop Q from playing. He can do whatever he likes and frankly, I'm ready to blow off some steam. Oh yes, watch the outlet, in the movie they're blowing up the wall from there." "Does the commodore know?" Trust wondered anxiously. Luke froze. "No, she doesn't and she's standing right on top of it! We must get a message through, although that elven captain looks stern. Anyone got a mirror?" Luke used the light of a nearby torch to signal a message in morse code to the Vulcans. As the enemy troops neared, they heard the loud thrudding of feet on the ground. Sovas' mouth fell open as he saw something he did not expect. The enemy forces were raging wild Vulcans from before the reformation when the race was quite violent. They carried ancient weapons like lirpas and senapas. Some types of weapons were dipped in poison. As the noise grew louder, T'Mar spoke. "These are concocted by Q and thus probably not our kin. We will neutralize these hostiles as we normally would." They drew out arrows and aimed at the enemy.

Trust waited anxiously for something to happen. He didn't want to fight right now, all he wanted was for this all to go away. Rain had started falling only minutes ago and now Trust was standing in a strange and uncomfortable uniform soaking wet. He had a hard time seeing infront of him except in the odd lightning strike and what he could see made himgasp with fright and disbelief.
Trust tightened his fingers around his bow and arrow, pulled back the string and aimed. He didn't know where he could aim in the dark, the odd torch in the valley below was the only light. The size of the army below them was too huge to find a specific target but there were enough for a blind arrow to hit something.
Trust waited tensly for someone to do something. In the movie an old man had struck first because his arrow slipped but it seemed like a lifetime was passing and nothing was happening.
"Umm Luke, shouldn't there be fighting now?" a confused Trust asked.
"Yes, this is very odd, I don't know what to make of it."
Trust wondered if Q was waiting to see if the Scavenger's crew would crack under the pressure. Trust told himself not to crack now, after all he had been through in the last few days. However the weight of the bow, the rain, sweat and lactic acid building up in Trust's arms were taking it's toll on him.

T'Mar stood waiting to release her arrow when the tall elf was standing behind her. "Would you slay your own kin?" he asked. She turned around and saw Q. "These Vulcans seek to destroy us all. They are in a mindless rage. I must protect my crew and family! You have put us here and we will do what we must!" "Or you could convert them like Surak did" Q said. "some of them might be your forefathers. For all we know they're dead tomorrow and you will never have existed!" T'Mar nearly smiled. "Are these not your creation? You are omnipotent are you not? You have recreated this fantasy setting have you not? Then does it matter what we do or do not? It is all a game to you after all." Q nodded grinning. "Yes commodore, they are all imaginary. Think of it as a holoscenario with the safetyprotocolls offline" he grinned and fiddled with his bow. "Good luck Commodore" and returned to his position.

Emelye drew her bow and waited for the enemy to come within range. The early shots had to count because the rain would soon soak into the bow rendering it useless. She had scanned the oncoming mob looking for leaders. They would be easy to combat if they were directionless. She picked out a likely target near the front of the mob and trained her arrow on him. Slowly and evenly she let her breath out and then, with no movement other than that of the two fingers, she fired the arrow. It seemed to take forever to reach its mark, although it was probably less than a second. Emelye cheered as the man went down and she drew another arrow to begin the process again.
Emelye stood on her vantage point atop the castle walls for the next half hour, but by then her bow was next to useless with water damage. The rain was falling so hard that the arrows almost fell out of the sky. But that didn't really matter any more as the enemy was well and truly besieging the castle now.
She felt numb, and not only from the cold and the rain. She couldn't think about their situation too much. She thought of the crew like family. And Luke. She couldn't let herself think about what would happen if he didn't make it. Not so soon after she had already thought she lost him. She had to focus on the here and now, so she ran back down to find the others.

Luke watched intently as the crazed Vulcan crowd stormed the Castle. His bow was falling apart, and as ladders started to spring up onto the side of the wall, he drew his sword. As he did, he felt a searing pain in his shoulder, looking down, he saw a large arrow protruding into his uniform. Serenity swept over him as he collapsed to the floor.
(I'm now dead. Find a way to revive me please, i'd rather not stay like this!)

(Luke, don't worry, you won't be dead for long Now the enemy forces were climbing up the wall using ladders. T'Mar kept gazing down while she hewed down the attackers to see if anyone was nearing the outlet below. She had received the morse code message about the plot to blow up the wall. A man wearing thick armor was running towards the wall with a torch and was not yet noticed. She took her bow and shot him in the chest but he was still running. Another arrow hit him from a few meters to the left. A man nearby kept shouting to kill him. Sovas had noticed what went on and started shooting as well. The disaster they feared, was averted as the torch fell into a puddle of water. (some more tomorrow)

As the fight went on, T'Mar noticed that the enemy soldiers began to look like people she knew. Classmates from school. They had adult faces but she clearly recognized her peers. She blocked them out of her mind as she knew it was Q's trickery. She didn't pay attention to the enemy forces she hewed down, even though they strongly resembled people she knew from the Vulcan Science Academy and Starfleet. A man wearing a heavy helmet climbed onto the wall via a ladder and she took the opportunity to chop his head off. As it bounced on the floor the helmet fell off showing the face of her grandfather whom she had always a strong connection with as he had been very wise in life and taught her important lessons. She had not time to wonder why Q was doing this. He was probably trying to break her the mental fortress of her Vulcan mind. "It's trickery!" she told herself as she stabbed the next one in the heart. This one was her mother. She did not look when she took out another. He resembled Sovek and she backed off behind the other archers. "Are you allright Sir?" Sulak asked. He had stayed near her as much as possible. T'Mar nodded. "Have you been seeing acqaintances and relatives among the enemies' forces?" she asked him. They spoke in Vulcan lest the Elves understood what they said. The healer nodded. "Most disquieting but we must ignore it as it is a part of Q's mental game." Suddenly one broke through the line of archers and lunched at the commodore and the doctor. They were quick with their swords. T'Mar backed away. "I cannot stay on this wall. I must see if she's allright!" she said stammering. As Sulak looked at the dead body at his feet he saw the face of T'Mar's newborn child. He ran after her to make sure she was allright. T'Mar found her husband and child in the cave and they were safe. She sat down still trembling unable to speak. Sulak explained to Sovek what had happened and that in her state such a mental attack could weaken her emotional controll. But as she regained controll she felt guilty. "I should not show weakness in front of my crew!" she protested. "I should have realised it was not reality we're dealing with. Q got what he wanted, I am ashamed! I shall return immediately!" Sulak shook his head. "No, it is nothing to be ashamed of Sir. You have given birth only a few days ago. Your system is not back to normal and it won't be for a while. What Q is doing would be disastrous to anyone's sanity. Stay here and rest and that's an order!" T'Mar could not go against her CMO and remained in the cave. As Sulak returned to the battlements, Emelye hurried towards him through the fighting chaos. "Doctor, where's the Commodore?" "I've sent her back into the caves. She is too tired to continue. But that was to be expected." Emelye nodded. "She chopped down quite a few. Strange, one of them looked like Captain Solok. But then again, my eyes must be cheating me" she grinned.

When the first rays of morning light shone into the valley, the fighting still continued. The rays grew untill it was all light and empty and the crew of the USS Scavenger found themselves in the middle of it. Luke woke up and found that he was alive. Tired and baffled, the crewmembers looked about them. T'Mar sat on the ground cradling her sleeping child, wondering what Q had in store. Q appeared in his most familiar face wearing a Starfleet uniform asuming the rank of Commodore. "Oh you look angry T'Mar for me putting you through such horror. I thought Vulcans had such strong mental barriers! You are an affront to your own kind! And you've killed them all" he sneered. T'Mar did not reply but gave him a defiant look. "Im wondering what you're trying to prove Q" Emelye said as she stepped forward. "Or are you just looking how far we would go?" Q grinned. "Not very bright are you? You people are pathetic without all that technology, hopping about with sticks and clubs. Even when I pushed up the technological level a bit you people still don't know what to do with it! I have had so incredibly much fun in watching you struggle! I bet you all wished you had a pair of earmuffs with that screaming little rugrat around!" he laughed. "I'd like to get us all back to my ship if you don't mind" T'Mar said dryly. "Life as cavepeople was fun for a while but as far as I'm concerned, this vacation is over!" "I say when vacation is over!" Q said cheerfully. "Okay, vacation is over!" he grinned and snapped his finger. T'Mar found herself sitting up in bed in her quarters feeding her daughter. Sovek entered the bedroom carrying a tray with food and herbal tea. "It is like nothing has happened" he said. "It is usually that way after an encounter with Q. But one thing is different. We are a family now. Later that day, crewmembers came in for short visits.
A few weeks later, some people were gathering at the entrance of one of the holodecks. Luke and Trust had arranged for a workout in an epic setting. "This time it will be according to the movie, unless the holodeck computer turns against us" Luke said. "Or we're screwed" Trust remarked. "Screwed?" Sovas inquired. "Does that not have something to do with screws, an item one uses to connect parts of a construction?" Luke made a wrenching gesture with his hands. "In this context it means something like messing with somebody in a really bad way." Sovas nodded. "I see." Luke and Trust had told the senior crew anyone could join in as long as Vulcans would play Elves and everyone else could be Rohan soldiers. When the group was nearly complete, Trust wondered aloud where Commander Brianon would be. "Babysitting" Commodore T'Mar replied suddenly. "Sovek is also joining in as he can use some physical training." "My wife, I am a scientist, I am not required to do any physical duties" he protested. "That is why I am encouraging you to get some excercise, you are getting fat my husband" she replied. A few minutes later they stood upon the wall in the rain chopping down attacking Uruk Hai. "Computer is working perfectly" Luke grinned. "Yes, perfectly" Trust replied with glee. "Look at the Commodore, she's handing all the uruks down to her husband. Look him sweat!" Sovek was panting as he hewed off one head after another. "My wife, I believe I have had quite enough excercise for now!" "Keep at it for a while my husband. Do not forget that I have suffered hours of labor in a cold cave for our happiness." "A joke?" "Of course!" She sheathed her sword, pushed an orc aside and embraced Sovek. "Besides you look quite good in this outfit." The attackers ignored them as the safety measures were online. "A time out from excercise my wife?" She pushed him a few meters towards the tower. Not long after a part of the wall exploded. "Come on, they're getting through!" They ended the training session with archery practice and the person with the highest score won three hours extra holodeck time.
