*RJ sat at his desk looking over the new duty roster noting that the back up helmsman was injured in sick bay as well as Cmdr Vegeta;* " Guess I'll take a shift at the helm"* As RJ left his ready room he noticed Cmdr Vegeta standing between the Helm and his chair, moving around the Cmdr RJ sat in the unoccupied helm chair and started updating the board*
Green: Rommies are on the move sir! I'm entering a pursuit course!" She glanced sideways at Captain James, whose hands moved quickly over the helm's console, receiving the co-ordinates she was feeding to his console. "Arming weapons and raising shields," she continued, beating any command officer to the punch with her statement.
*Taking the Chiefs response in stride, RJ finished entering the coerce and speed then stood and turned to Cmdr Vegeta.*
James: Mr Vegeta if you would take the helm. OK let them think we only detected their start up; change coerce to parallel them plus 2 degrees away until they are at the limit of our sensors then become their shadow. Lets see where they lead us. Reduce alert status to Yellow and put weapons on stand by; but keep them hot and ready.

"Captain?" Mira querried, not quite believing the order but complying with it anyway. Together with Vegeta she kept following the Romulan vessel, each time correcting course when they did.
It was safe to assume the Romulans knew they were there, but where would they be leading them? Mira had no idea and she was too excited and also too tired to even care. all she cared for was that they didn't get away with this unpunished.
"Sir, could I take a break please?" Mira finally asked. She was starting to get really hungry and realized she hadn't eaten anything since coming back on duty.

Ephrem watched the actions of everyone on the bridge carefully. He was surprised when the Captain had ordered them to follow the Romulan ship. He had hoped that there last meetings with the Romulans would have been there last, but that was not the case.
The Excalibur had now been following the Romulan ship for hours and Ephrem seriously doubted that they didn't know they were behind them. What were they gaining by allowing the Excalibur to follow them? Did they have a contingency plan? These questions ran through his mind as he kept all available sensors locked on the ship. The sensors were not evasive enough to inform the Romulans that they were being scanned, but they were powerful enough for him to be able to have the basic information on the ship.
After more hours of the tedious work, Ephrem eyes finally gave up and closed. There was a fleeting second, where Ephrem and all his surrounding were weightless. That was until his head found the hard surface of the console. Ephrem tried not to scream in pain, but he was hopeless.
His screams seemed to shock everyone on the bridge and a couple of them couldn't help, but laugh.
"Are you ok Lt.?" Captain Vegata asked.
"Yes sir," Ephrem said shamefully. He was dead tired, but the pain in his head wouldn't allow him to close his eyes anymore.
"Well then you are dismissed, but please go to sickbay and get that checked out," the Captain ordered and Ephrem obediently obliged.
He shortly reached sickbay and was met by the doctor.
"Doc I have a killer headache," Ephrem said as he laid down on the biobed.

With all of the patients taken care of, most in their own quarters sleeping, John sat slumped in his office chair, a half-empty glass of water on his desk. He was dozing, occasionally opening his eyes, blinking, looking around to make sure nothing was happening, and then dropping off again. Wundt had been relieved by another nurse, who John was not as familar with, so he had no one to talk to and nothing to worry about at the moment.
After an hour or so John returned to his quarters. He returned to Sickbay just before Ephrem got there, and was busy checking up on all the patients who had been hospitalised.
"Doc I have a killer headache," Ephrem said as he laid down on the biobed.
"What do you mean?" asked John. "Could you give me anything specific about your problem?"
Ephrem's face turned a little red. "Well, I... I screamed."
"You what? Screamed? I assume it was a rather sharp, intense pain that you didn't expect," said John.
"I passed out," explained Ephrem. "I was so tired, and then my head hit my console."
"All right. Hold on...." John scanned his head quickly with a medical tricorder. He shook his head sadly. "I'm sorry to inform you that your hypocampus is permanently broken. You have a few hours, but... I'm sorry."
Ephrem stared at him, not sure exactly what a hypocamus was. "What? You mean..."
John nodded, but the hint of a smile kept breaking his face until his doubled over with laughter. "Oh, boy, I wish I had a recording of that."
Ephrem did not look amused. "That's not funny, John."
"Here," said John, grabbing a hypospray. He was still chuckling as he administered the drug to Ephrem. "Go eat something - not too much - and lie down. You'll fall asleep fairly quickly."

*As the chase wore on RJ began to nod; looking at the time he realized he might be over taxing his bridge crew.*
James: Mr. Vegeta best guess on where they are leading us.
<tag Vegeta>
James: Stand down from alert, set the night watch and have them call us if there is any major change in course. Chief regardless of what medical says, I do not want to see you on the bridge for the next 8 hours unless we go to red alert; and try to spend some of that time sleeping, ok?
<tag Green/Vegeta>
*Mean while on the Romulin ship*
Centurion: Commander why do we run?
Commander: We are not running we have the information on the federation Dilithium mater/antimatter converter and if we do not get it back we will be stuck using that new micro singulary power source, the Praetors son came up with to power the new Warp drive for our birds of prey. Sensors do they still follow.
Sensor Officer: Commander they no longer show on our sensors. I only read an occasional ghost.
Commander: Ghost?
S O: Yes Commander it is a contact that stays in the same place relative to us; no matter which way we turn.
Commander: Helm take us home; best possible speed, keep us cloaked until we are back in the neutral zone.

Mira gladly left the bridge, but wondered why the captain hinted at whatever medical would say. Hadn't she been fully cleared for duty? She shook her head in confusion and looked straight at the captain. "Sir?" she querried, "i was fully cleared for duty sir, all I need is something to eat."
<James>
"All right all right I'm going," she murmured, less than pleased with the situation. Since she hadn't seen John for a while she decided to go past sickbay anyway and see whether he'd join her for lunch.
"Guess what just happened to me," she complained as she walked up to him. "James kicked me off the bridge, said I wasn't to return for several hours despite what would sickbay say. I only wanted to take a little break to go and get something to eat."
She looked up at the doctor. "Have you had lunch yet?" she asked as she walked up closer to him, snaking her arms around his waist. "Perhaps we could go together...I don't like being alone..."

She looked up at the doctor. "Have you had lunch yet?" she asked as she walked up closer to him, snaking her arms around his waist.
"No," replied John, putting down the report he'd been preparing.
"Perhaps we could go together...I don't like being alone..."
"Where to?" asked John. "I'm no good for cooking anything besides waffles and pancakes."
"That sounds good," said Mira.
John was a little surprised. "You know, I think we could find better food-"
"I'm not in the mood for a huge dinner," said Mira, steering John toward the turbolift and away from the mess hall.
John sighed as they got on the turbolift. "Don't tell me you didn't ask for it." He desparately hoped he was still able to fix breakfast like he had in the Academy. Now he mostly relied on the mess hall.

"Don't tell me you didn't ask for it."
Mira smirked at him in response. "It's the gesture that counts my dear John," she grinned, "and I happen to love pancakes." She stood on her toe-tips as she gently kissed him on the cheek. "And I would definately love a breakfast prepared by you...who knows I might make you dinner tonight."
Again she grinned as she steered him towards his quarters. "They're bigger than mine, so you could make more of a mess." She sat down on the couch as John disappeared into his small kitchen. (assuming officer's quarters have one) "Can you believe it? Captain Roberts has ordered me off duty....bridge is off-limits to me for the next oh..12 hours or so."
She scowled at the memory. "All I asked for was a little break to grab something to eat."

"Maybe he's simply nervous." John had pulled out the ingrediants and was beginning to mix them in a bowl. "He was promoted rather quickly, wasn't he? I mean, we've gone through a couple Captains in the last few months. Maybe he's worried about living up to everyone's expectations."
"How does sending away the CPO for half a day fix anything?" asked Mira.
John turned on the stove and began stirring the batter. "I don't know. Maybe he doesn't expect us to enter the Neutral Zone or catch up with the Romulans for a while. Maybe he wanted you to be ready then and be resting now."
Mira didn't sound convinced. "And why not take off the time himself?"
"His psych profile shows he wants to be in charge. I think he has a hard time watching someone else command, because he sees flaws in how they work. He wants to be on the Bridge until this crisis is over, despite the fact he'll be tired when we really need him." John bent down while stirring and got out a pan. The stove was almost hot enough...

"His psych profile shows he wants to be in charge. I think he has a hard time watching someone else command, because he sees flaws in how they work. He wants to be on the Bridge until this crisis is over, despite the fact he'll be tired when we really need him."
"And what good will that do us," Mira commented as she watched him handle the batter. "He was injured as much as I was, if not worse. If anything his place should be in sickbay right now, and let Vegeta run the ship."
She chuckled briefly. "As CMO you could order him off duty you know, should that become necessary. As much as I would like to catch these [word deleted], I think entering the Neutral Zone is foolish. Yes he wants to be in charge, and he IS in charge for that matter, but if he's running on that thought alone he'll never make it."
She paused again, fiddling with her fork as she thought about it. "He's the third captain of this ship within months, and he's doing quite a good job of it. I doubt they'll kick him off that bridge anytime soon, but he'll need to set the right example!" Mira was clearly frustrated, as she cared deeply for this particular captain. "What good will it do us if he collapses on duty? Or has a relapse from his injuries? He may think he's as tough as a Klingon, but he's not!" She banged her fork on the table in anger, leaving a small dent where the item had struck the table.
Mira didn't realise that, but her eyes flashed with anger and worry. "You could advise him," she pleaded with John, as she watched him fix breakfast, "he didn't even see at first that his first officer was a fraud....that must account for something?"

James: "Captains Log supplemental; One problem with having a ready room on the bridge level is you tend to stay there when not in the big chair. It seems our saboteurs have been identified as Romulan. I wish we knew more about them; other than what has been discovered by Jim Kirk and the Enterprise. Further more what interest do they have in the Excalibur going to Vanguard? If all they wanted was the new bridge module they would have blown the Engineering hull and took the rest as a prize? There has to be a security leak ether on Vanguard or at Fleet HQ. I find this all stinking of that pain in the kester Section 31. I have had a few run ins with those jokers in the past. end entry."
*Rj got up and left the ready room pausing at the turbo lift:*
James: Mr Williams I see you have the night shift; report.
Williams: Aye sir; we are still shadowing the sensor anomaly, who ever it is keeps slowing and sometimes stopping as if they are listing or looking for something. We are keeping the same relative spot to them. Our revised eta to the neutral zone is 12 hours unless they change their tactics.
James: OK I will be in my quarters; if they decloak follow drop back to the edge of our sensors, if they turn to attack defend the ship and also call me when we are 1 hour out from the neutral zone.
Williams: Aye sir.
*RJ entered the turbo lift;*
James: Deck 6.

Ephrem had barely made it to his quarters before he fell down asleep. He hadn't experienced such a blissful sleep in a very long time. He didn't know how long he was out, but when he woke up he was happy not to feel anything.
~I'll need to remember to thank him~ Ephrem thought as he undressed and headed towards the shower. The hot shower helped Ephrem feel even better and once he was done he went decided that he would work out a bit.
Half way through his workout he realized that he would have to shower again, but it didn't matter really. By the time he was done, Ephrem was sure that a few hours had passed, but he had no intention of going anywhere. He would take this day to relax and recharge because he knew he would need it.
OFF: Anyone want to do something?

OOC: Well, I did try and get a game of tennis started a long time ago, Lorian...
I agree, the mission is not working out so well. Let's start a new one, with a more definite plot. And maybe a bigger crew.
IC:
"You could advise him," she pleaded with John, as she watched him fix breakfast, "he didn't even see at first that his first officer was a fraud....that must account for something?"
"I'll talk to him," promised John, leaving the pancake batter on the pan and fishing around for syrup and butter. After he found them, Mira held up her hands, as if she were going to catch a ball. John was puzzled for a moment, then realised her intention and lobbed the syrup container rather poorly at Mira. She caught it and then motioned for the butter. John didn't trust his aim, as the syrup had nearly flown out of Mira's reach, but she caught the butter with apparent ease. John flipped the pancakes and got out two sets of utinsels, plates, and cups, which he did not throw to Mira.
"Orange juice or milk?" he asked, as he set the table.
