OOC: This post occurs before Tepes’ departure to the Vesuvius….
The mist clung to the shadows, floating above eye level, unnoticed by all. It found a nearby ventilation duct and dissipated inside it. A thought, more akin to a demonic possession than a mental projection, pulsed from the mist and on to the intended target.
Tony Marcell and TJ Edwards had left Karynn but she had hardly noticed their departure. Her mind still fixated on the single thought repeating there – it said simply and monotonously, “Come.”
Without knowing where she was headed, McCormick walked empty corridors, always keeping to the shadows. Though the starbase was on night watch and the lighting was dimmed, it still was too bright for her eyes. She pressed on, seeing the goal ahead of her. A sliver of her sanity protested, wanting to know the reason for coming here, however, the voice drew her onward.
She found herself in a remote section of the promenade level and inside an unoccupied shop. It wasn’t long until she felt a presence at the far end of the room. An ethereal cloud poured from a ceiling vent and disappeared into the darkness. Then, a voice, - the same voice she’d encountered earlier in the atrium. He had returned. This caped figure, emerging from nothingness, beckoned her.
(tag: Tepes?)
Surprisingly, this time Karynn felt no fear at his touch but rather anticipated it. She willingly offered her throat to his lusting hunger. Somehow, she knew that after he was satisfied, she would be stronger and more powerful than she’d ever been before. He feasted on her warm droplets of life and McCormick flushed, nearly passing out once more. His hold lessened and he locked his eyes onto hers. Without his saying anything, McCormick understood. She was one with him now; bonded to the evil alliance of the undead.
Again, the mist rose. He watched her for a time, careful not to be seen as he followed her. Vicariously, he drew excitement from her as she hunted for her first victim and first taste of blood.
==================================
Her eyes locked on to the Hanson’s First Officer and a feeling of intense hunger overwhelmed her.
Unwittingly, S’reena was drawn toward McCormick’s dynamic gaze. The strange behavior the Admiral was now exhibiting gave rise to her curiosity but was no cause for alarm. She was mindful that the Admiral was a talented performer for she had seen it first-hand. Not long ago, McCormick had successfully fooled the entire crew of the Hanson and all of Starbase Conqueror that she’d been murdered. She advanced toward McCormick and into the dark.
Lacking the sophistication of a practiced hunter, Karynn – or what used to be Karynn – lunged at the Hanson’s First Officer, forcing her submission and tearing into S’reena’s now exposed neck. Voraciously, she drank in deeply the sweet tang of her victim’s Romulan blood. Above the scene, a vapor undulated and pulsated in sheer delight.
McCormick, through with her feeding frenzy, let S’reena’s limp body tumble to the floor. She left her there, wiping away the trickles of her first meal from her chin, to seek out the darkness of her quarters.
The fog wafted over the comatose form sprawled underneath it and seemed to draw strength from it. The dimensions of the formless mist grew slightly and sparkled dimly before it rose once again and vanished into the ceiling vent.

one word for karynns post: WOW!
ic:
S'reena did not know what overcame her when the admiral suddenly lunged at her. She stood helpless, her Romulan strength useless against the strength of whatever possessed the admiral. She stiffled a cry, as she felt teeth pierce through her vulnerable skin, and soon she felt light headed and finally passed out.
After an unknown length of time had passed, S'reena woke up feeling dizzy and disoriented. She vaguely remembered what had happened, and instintively brought her fingers to her throat to verify that she had not been dreaming. Her fingers came away green and she gasped at the sight, fighting down a feeling of sudden nausea.
She got to her feet slowly and, keeping do the dark side of the corridors, sought her way to sickbay. On her way, she collided with another woman, sending both of them sprawling. "Sorry," S'reena mumbled, as she got to her feet again, and held out her hand to help the other woman up. Only when the dim lights iluminated the other woman's face, did S'reena recognize her.
"Admiral Keztrek!" she exclaimed, nearly falling over from dizziness again, "admiral what are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
She brought her hand to her forehead, and rubbed her eyes, in an attempt to clear her head. "Admiral, I am on my way to Hanson's sickbay, I am not feeling very well. I seem to have gone lost, could you please direct me?"

KezTrek's face darkened in a look of concern... something seemed... wrong... but she attempted to shake it off, S'reena claimed she was feeling ill, this was the most logical explanation as to why she seemed... off... KezTrek couldn't help the illogical emotional response she was getting in S'reena's presence, it wasn't quite fear... but... distrust... and for all Vulcan's and Romualn's shared a mutual distrust, KezTrek had never had any REAL reason to feel this particular feeling about S'reena in the past.
KezTrek shook her head, attempting to clear it.
"Can't keep out of trouble can you? I'm not even back on the ship yet and your already knocking me over... tut tut." KezTrek said, attempting to find a lighter balance to her emotions.
"I... I didn't know you were coming." S'reena said, somewhat shakily.
"I asked your Captain to keep it a secret, thought we'd surprise you. Did it work?" KezTrek asked her.
"I'm... surprised." S'reena weakly agreed.
"Come on, sickbay before you fall down... what HAVE you been doing to yourself?" KezTrek asked, feeling slight shivers up her spine when she wrapped her arm around S'reena's waste... a chill permeating her when her skin meet S'reena's.
"I just... feel a little unwell, I'm sure it's nothing." S'reena said.
"We'll let the Doctor's be the judge of that, speaking off, how is Michael? Daniel is about here somewhere, I think he took our bags onto the Hanson, I asked where you were and I was told you were here, I was actually coming to look for you." KezTrek said, fighting with herself to ignore this feeling...
Perhaps, KezTrek reasoned with herself, she was just tired... she and Daniel had been undercover with SFI for months, she'd only come here now, partly, under the pretence of making a good will offering to the new Feregi Nagus, and partly because it suited her mission plans, besides, it was a nice little break for being shot at every other day... either way, she had to admit she was tired, and that was as logical a reason as any for her strange emotional reactions.
"He's fine, thank-you." S'reena replied simply.
'I'm just tired' KezTrek mentally argued with herself as they entered the Hanson's air lock, and headed for the nearest turbo-lift.
"Sickbay." KezTrek said.
The turbo-lift slid seamlessly into action heading towards sickbay, and KezTrek took a moment to take in the appearance of her old First Officer... she just couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong, and that something, directly centred on S'reena... but what?

Salek had just returned to sickbay after arranging for some new medical supplies to be delivered to the Hanson before she ships out. He was just finishing a pad when he saw Admiral Keztrek helping Cmdr. S'Reena in into sickbay.
"Help her over to the bio bed", Salek said as he grabbed a tricoder
KezTrek helped S'Reena to a biobed and ten stepped away as Salek began scanning her. He ran several scans on her to see that there is noting wrong with her except that she was anaemic. 2 Vulcans anaemic in one day this was highly illogical and improbable he thought.
He grabbed a hyposprey and administered her with a medicine which was fast working and only a few moments later S'Reena was feeling better. And has attempted to leave sickbay.
"Commander, you require rest you will either lay down and stay here for an hour or you will spend the whole mission in sickbay", Salek said
<S'Reena>
“What were you doing when you felt weak?”
<S’Reena>
"Admiral, i have not heard that you have returned to SB Conqueror?"
<KezTrek>
Then he turned to S’Reena who was already feeling better except that she was covering her eyes:
“Does the light bother you?”, he asked
<S’Reena>

S'reena nodded meekly, she knew perfectly well that Salek would carry out his threat. "Yes doctor, but one hour only. We have to report to the Hanson."
"I was on my way to my quarters, and then I got attacked. Unfortunately, I do not remember who attacked me." But she knew very well who attacked her, but she felt it unjust to betray one of her kind. ~~my kind~~ she thought in bewilderment ~~what exactly is my kind?~~
Again S'reena nodded, and sighed with relief when Salek dimmed the lights somewhat. "Thank you, that feels much better," she said, then lay back and closed her eyes, in order to take the ordered rest.
An hour later, she accompanied RA Keztrek to the Hanson, and showed her to her quarters. "I shall be on the bridge admiral," she said, "we have a new captain and I have not had the chance to meet him yet."
<lets continue this on the hanson?>

Now, it must be completed.
"My dear, I believe we have something ... to continue," Tepes said as his eyes beckoned a now far more willing participant in the ghoulish feast that was about to continue. "And this time, there will be no interruptions."
Drawing the Admiral closer, Tepes' fangs bared and his eyes grew wild with anticipation. ...

Jordan was still a little shaky from her farewell with Tony but she decided to go for a walk. She was making her way to the mess hall when Draco froze in the air before her and told her to hide. She was confused but did as she was told and saw Admiral McCormick come around the corner. She looked pale, and she squinted in the bright lights. Jordan sensed more than saw the change in demeanor that she had witnessed from the graduation ceremony. She watched as McCormick went past and decided to follow her.

McCormick’s heightened senses were keen, as if for the first time every nerve fiber within her body had been exposed to the air. Her sense of smell was more discriminating. Hunger was a drive that continually begged for fulfillment. Touch was electrifyingly pleasurable. Her eyes, though sensitive to normal light, were able to see even the smallest movement. The most stimulating sensation of all was her ability to accurately sense the strength or vulnerability of everyone around her.
Strange sensations swept over her; animalistic qualities that would have normally frightened her. However, her new instincts made her feel more powerful and more alive than she’d ever felt before. She was barely aware of the small inner voice, that of her deadened conscience, screaming to be heard. Her excitement with these new sensations overwhelmed her moral center. Her death of conscience gave rise to titillating thoughts, which in turn, masqueraded as exhilaration fooling her into thinking she was more alive, more powerful and more wonderful than she could have ever imagined. Tepes was indeed her master and she, his faithful servant.
McCormick walked corridors, staying amongst the shadows, prowling for her next victim. Instinctually, she was aware of a person who was following at a discreet distance. Female, she determined, as she walked on. A few moments more and she felt the presence of a non-humanoid companion fluttering near her stalker. McCormick’s senses identified her shadow as Jordan Mackler. A feeling of supremacy rushed over her as she easily ascertained Jordan’s personality. The young doctor had followed her here out of concern for her Admiral and curiosity for her Admiral’s strange behavior. "How easy," Karynn thought, “She will be so simple to dominate.” Saliva pooled in her mouth at the thought of dining on such a delightful delicacy. Suddenly, her enhanced hearing caught the sound of beating wings and McCormick realized that while Jordan would be easy prey, the small creature she called Draco would most certainly be a problem. Deciding she wasn’t certain she could subdue both Draco and Mackler, McCormick quickened her pace. She ducked into a maintenance alcove, found a security-coded turbolift, swiftly tapped in her clearance and disappeared inside.
“Command level one,” she spoke and the lift hummed. She would have to look for more suitable prey.
Her office on Conqueror was dark and empty save a few sparse pieces of furniture. McCormick hadn’t planned on being here much. She retreated here now to plan where and how she could safely find sustenance. Her control over her victims, though potent, was not enough to cloak her presence. Stealth was vital to her continuance.
More out of habit than duty, she answered her daily messages. One message intrigued her. Section Admiral Duke Nova was due to arrive tomorrow on Conqueror. Her mind raced. This was excellently timed. The surging impulses within her outlined her task to come. With Nova as one of them, they would easily overpower this entire Section of space. She laughed aloud, her electrified nerve-endings tingling with anticipation. She would be the catalyst and Tepes would be very pleased and, above all, she wanted to please him.
Until then, however, she would need to satisfy her craving for blood. As these thoughts formed, the answer came through the door.
“Excuse me,” the youthful cadet hesitantly came in. “Uh, I’m sorry to disturb you,” stammering profusely, the cadet’s eyes locked on to McCormick’s. “I seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere… could you direct me to the Commandant’s office?”
The Vice Admiral smiled graciously. “Certainly, cadet,” she said as she moved closer and froze her young victim with her feral gaze.OFF: Yo, any cadets on Conqueror out there... if you'd like to play a bit while waiting for your training mission and think it might be fun to write about becoming a vampire, please feel free to make yourself the victim I just dined upon! BTW, you were quite YUMMY!

Arriving on Conqueror brought several emotions to the surface as the Section Admiral's yacht docked softly into the mooring clamps. He departed his ship and was greeted by a welcome sight. Karynn McCormick was smiling, her hand extended in greeting as the traditional 'Ruffles and Flourishes' played over a comm system. Duke hesitated for a moment, studying her face for she'd never been this openly warm toward him on their previous meetings. In fact, he would have classified her as 'a cold fish'.
"Welcome to Conqueror, Admiral Nova. It is good to see you again."
There was something different about her voice as well, Duke noted. More strength, more control and dare he think it, more of a sultry quality. "Well, maybe she's finally come to her senses and decided I'm not so bad... or maybe it's all the pips," he thought, returning her broad smile.
"It's good to see you again... and under better circumstances than when we last were here together."
"Ahh, but we DID have some good times, Admiral."
There it was again, the underlying sexual feel to her comment, nearly imperceptible, yet Nova was sure she was turning on more than just her normal charm.
"Most certainly... we did," he stammered slightly, confused by her signals yet hopelessly drawn in. He'd always been attracted to this, heretofore, aloof female but given up hope since she had repeatedly refused his invitations to dinner and laughingly rebuffed his fail-proof come-on lines. To bolster his ego, he'd concluded it was because Karynn was still grieving over her fiancé's death and was not yet ready to begin any relationship. Now, as he looked into her flashing green eyes, it was as if she were speaking to his soul. His mind heard her clearly. "Come", she said simply.
She moved closer, still peering into his soul, looping her arm around his and escorting him off the dock, taking him to... wherever she was taking him, it didn't matter. He was entranced by her seductive manner and willfully bound to her desires.
They walked in what seemed to Nova like a fog. She spoke very little but her voice reverberated in his mind, whispering everything he'd ever wanted her to say to him. So enraptured was he, that he didn't even notice they were now alone in her darkened quarters. She turned to face him. Nova's anticipation grew as she neared his lips. Karynn kissed him briefly then let her lips wander to his neck. There, her kisses grew more intense and more animalistic. He felt a sting of pain as her fangs sunk deeply into his flesh. The room whirled around him as his eyes rolled back and darkness invaded his consciousness.

Jordan tracked McCormick and then saw her slip into a room. She couldn't get inside and because the Admiral was acting was so weirdly, she decided against sending Draco inside to check things out. She was worried though, something wasn't right and her instincts told her she was in danger as was the entire base or anyone that came in contact with McCormick. She was walking back to the Instructors' Lounge when she ran into someone. A young woman a few inches shorter than her with long, red hair. Draco hissed. Roz stepped back and looked at the fire lizard in front of her.
Roz: Easy there. I'm not going to hurt anyone.
Jordan: I'm sorry for runnin' into ya. I wasn't lookin' where I was goin'. Draco, relax. I'm Commander Mackler but you can call me Jordan.
Roz held out her hand and shook Jordan's.
Roz: Civilian Rosalyn Drouet but just call me Roz. Where we ya heading?
Jordan: The Instructors' Lounge. Care to come with?
Roz: Definitely.
They walked to the Lounge and got coffee. They sat at a table and looked at each other. Roz smiled at Draco.
Roz: You said his name is Draco? He's absolutely beautiful and very fascinating.
Jordan: Yes. He's permanently attached to me. Whatever one of us feels, the other does too. It's very interestin' when Draco has a nightmare. Everythin's so vivid.
Roz: What are you serving as?
Jordan: I'm the CMO on the Hepta.
Roz: Ah, my homeship as one could call it. I served my first mission on there. The captain at the time was Admiral McCormick. She was very helpful and she's now a friend of mine.
At the mention of the Admiral, Jordan stiffened visibly and her eyes dropped to her coffee cup. Roz sat up straighter and got herself in Jordan's field of vision.
Roz: Something happen to Karynn? I can read people easily. Please Jordan. Tell me what it is.
Jordan sighed and raised her eyes. She took a deep breath and started telling Roz about what she had witnessed with the Admiral. Roz listened intently and thought for a long time after Jordan had finished.
Roz: And you had no way of following her?
Jordan: None whatsoever.
Roz thought some more and then got a few ideas. She smiled to herself and stood up.
Roz: Follow me. We need to go find someone. I hope he's in his quarters. He may provide a big amount of help.
Jordan stood and followed her out. They got into the turbo lift and sped away. Jordan was very curious to who the "he" was that Roz had spoken about.

-- Academy Commandant's office, SB Conqueror --
Captain ONE sat at his desk, as usual, seeing to his usual duties. At the back of his mind, however, was the Section Admiral. He had arrived a short time ago, and was met by Vice Admiral McCormick. ONE figured that they already had some sort of working relationship, and would want to spend some time catching up. But sooner or later, ONE knew he would have to meet with the SA himself. He had never met the SA before, although he had spoken to him briefly via subspace communications. And not only was he going to meet the SA face-to-face for the first time, the meeting was here at Starbase Conqueror! Being Borg, ONE showed no external signs of being nervous, but he certainly was on the inside.
But where was the Section Admiral? Shouldn't Karynn have paged him by now, saying they were ready to meet? Then ONE heard an electric fizzling sound and looked up from his PADD. There standing before his desk was TWO, the Starbase's Emergency Command Hologram!
"Wha-? I didn't activate you!"
"I know. It took me a while to figure out how, but I activated myself."
"You can do that?"
"I just did. Now listen to me."
His nerves must have been getting to him, because ONE wouldn't ordinarily lash out, but he did this time: "No! you listen to me! I outrank you, you, hologram! Now I have work to do, and the Section Admiral is here, and I do not want some rogue hologram in my way!"
"You outrank me, do you?" TWO said with a self-righteous look. Suddenly TWO's collar, previously blank, shimmered with the pips of a Fleet Admiral. While ONE gawked at the hologram indignantly, TWO continued. "I'm not here for a social visit. I'm here because I think something's wrong with Admiral Nova, and maybe Admiral McCormick as well."
"What do you mean?" ONE had finally calmed down, and now his attention and emotions shifted to the Admirals.
"Well, the two of them went into McCormick's quarters nearly an hour ago. McCormick left about 10 minutes thereafter, but Nova hasn't moved."
"How would you know?" ONE eyed the hologram suspiciously.
TWO looked down. "I was, ah... watching them." He paused, then continued with a smirk, "Being integrated with the main computer can have its advantages."
"Well maybe he is just taking a nap. It's a long journey from Starbase 47." Actually, it wasn't all that long, but ONE was trying to reason with himself.
TWO had other ideas. "I don't think so, Captain. He's got his own guest quarters, why would he crash in McCormicks?" ONE opened his mouth to rebut, but TWO cut him off. "Plus, I checked internal sensors, and both his life sign and brain activity have dropped below normal sleep."
ONE sighed. "Alright, I'll look into it." He tapped his combadge. "ONE to Admiral McCormick."
No response. He tried again, but TWO just shook his head. "Computer, locate Admiral McCormick."
Unable to comply, came the computer's ominous reply.
TWO walked over to ONE's computer and tapped a few buttons. "Internal sensors are locked..."
"Well then unlock them and locate Admiral McCormick! Authorization ONE-Alpha-Omega."
Level 10 security clearance required.
"Dammit computer!" ONE slammed his fist on the desk.
Unable to comply. Please restate your request.
"I better check on him personally. The door is probably locked, too, so I'll have to transport in there." ONE mashed a button on his arm, activating his internal site-to-site transporter. He rematerialized in McCormick's quarters with a green shimmer. Duke Nova was lying unconcious on the floor. ONE ran to his side to check his pulse...

They stepped out of the lounge and into the turbo lift. Soon after, they stepped out and walked towards someone's quarters. They stopped in front of a door and Roz pressed the keypad. The door opened and they walked inside. The inside of the quarters looked like a cross between a secondary command deck and engineering. There was someone hunched over a console with thier back to Roz and Jordan. Roz snuck up behind them and ruffled his hair. He spun around and saw Roz and relaxed. Jordan realized that it was Art, the guy who had helped her when she was first getting used to the way things worked in the base. Art saw Jordan and stood up.
Art: Good to see you again Commander.
Jordan: Call me Jordan.
Art looked at the two of them.
Art: So what brings you to my quarters?
Roz: We have a bit of a situation. People are starting to act weird on the ship, Karynn in particular. We can't locate her and we have a sinking feeling that she's locked herself out of the computer. We came here to see if you could provide any help.
Art frowned and his eyes darted around the room as he thought.
Art: If the computer can't locate her, then the only way we will is to make a transmitter of our own. If I get started on one right now, I'd say it would be ready in about 2 hours.
Jordan: Sounds good. I'm going to go back to my quarters and get some things then I'll be back.
She turned and walked out of Art's quarters and down to her own. They were doing more than she ever expected them to. If they were able to track her, then they might be able to capture her and then everyone would be able to figure out what was going on with her and the other people all over the other bases.

On the Shuttle Wanderer ~As Captain Jibb piloted his shuttle ever closer to the El Salvador, Tepes had been considering another of his servants that should be rewarded.
For a few moments, he seemed distracted, aware of what was going on aboard the Wanderer, but with attention focused elsewhere...On the Starbase ~Admiral McCormick was surprised to see the flickering of air in front of her, and a translucent image of Tepes appearing.
"Good evening, Admiral. I have been considering your service to me, and because you've done so well, I have decided you are to be ... rewarded."
Admiral McCormick's expression suggested a person confused, wondering what such a salutation might mean.
"Extend your hand into the image of myself you see, and be prepared for the reward."
As Admiral McCormick reached slowly into the figure's image, she felt a tremendous surge of power flowing into her. <Karynn> "Because of your location and the situation that is developing, I am granting you the ability, not only to transform yourself into varied creatures, but also to use the mists.
"To transform into an animal, form the image of the creature in your mind, then lift your arms in this fashion." <Here, Tepes illustrated the move...> "To use the mist, form in your mind the image of where you wish to be, perform the same physical moves, and concentrate on your body transforming into mist. When you have arrived, visualize where you wish to coalesce into your physical form once more, at it shall be."
With that, Tepes' image vanished.Back on the Shuttle ~Tepes looked at T'Val and Magellan, then to the shuttle's monitor. He wondered how much longer before they would arrive at the El Salvador – and new feeding grounds.

Even in semi-consciousness, Nova sensed the presence of someone hovering over him. He remained motionless, calculating his position and planning his attack. New sensations, instinctual senses that he’d never experienced before, were coursing through him. Without opening his eyes, he quickly grabbed the arm that was extended to read his pulse. Slowly, he opened his eyes and sat up, still gripping the arm and looked into the face of the Academy Commandant. ONE struggled to free his forearm but Nova’s vice-like grip was more forceful than a normal human’s should be. Nova found, to his surprise, that he could actually sense ONE’s questions before he verbalized them. He released the Captain and slowly got to his feet.
“Are you injured, Admiral Nova?” ONE asked with concern.
An overwhelming feeling of hunger swathed him as Duke looked into ONE’s eyes and answered simply, “No, … in fact, I don’t know when I’ve ever felt better.” The flesh of ONE’s neck beckoned to him as his hunger intensified. Recessively, another Duke Nova buried deeply inside was forced to look upon the now unfolding scene as if in a dream. Repulsed by the new instincts now dominating his thoughts, this recessive Nova screamed to be heard but was ignored. The more powerful impulses won over and Duke caught the unsuspecting ONE in his hypnotic gaze.
=======================================
After her interlude with the Section Admiral, McCormick left her quarters and headed for her office. In order to not arouse too much suspicion, McCormick kept to a regular duty schedule. She retreated now to her office, dimmed the lighting and set about completing tasks that were of highest priority and took no social interaction. She’d not been there long before a shimmering image appeared before her. It was her master, paying her a visit and offering her a reward. She reveled in the fact that she had pleased him and she eagerly did as he instructed. But, nothing could have prepared her for the electrifying surge of power he transmitted to her body, a mixture of both ecstasy and pain. When he was through with her, she understood perfectly how to perform various metamorphoses and she yearned to try her newfound powers. She was also now aware of those on the Starbase that she’d feasted upon and could clearly hear their individual thoughts. Her awareness settled upon her latest inductee to her world, Duke Nova, and she saw through his eyes what he was about to do. She threw back her head and laughed manically as she outstretched her arms and envisioned her body just as Tepes had described. Immediately, she faded into a smoky essence of her physical form then condensed into a small cloud. She propelled herself by mere thought up to the ceiling and into a ventilation shaft.
In no time, she was back in her quarters, suspended in the air, watching her prodigy with delicious excitement. He, who was Duke Nova, was now hers and he was about to successfully complete his first hunt.

Jordan passed by the Admiral's quarters and saw Captain ONE and a man she didn't know inside. There was something wrong with the whole arrangement. She slowly entered the room and the strange man's gaze drifted to hers. She found she couldn't move but she felt a wave of fear run down her spine. The man rose off the floor and walked towards her. Jordan had a strange compulsion to expose her neck to him. Draco zoomed into the room and flew at the man, his claws reaching for the man's face. He scratched at him and the spell was broken as the man roared in pain and started to go after Draco. She shook her head and regained her bearings. She saw ONE waking up too but it didn't look like he was going to be doing anything to stop the man from killing Draco if he got a hold of him. The man backhanded Draco and Draco hit the wall and slumped to the floor. Jordan yelped in pain and then grew furious. She ran up behind the man, pulled out her phaser, and hit him behind the head with such force, that it knocked him out immediately.
Jordan: Captain, are you ok? Captain? ONE!
ONE returned to the present and looked at Nova, unconscious on the floor of the Admiral's quarters. He glared at Jordan.
ONE: Do you have any idea whom you just attacked? This is Section Admiral Duke Nova.
Jordan felt slightly sorry but then she remembered Draco and forgot about the ranking system.
Jordan: I'm sorry Captain but I wasn't the one who attacked him. He attacked me and you. I defended myself. I would hate to see you as a vampire. Still being partially Borg, you're immensely strong but if you add onto that the power held by a vampire, there wouldn't be anything to stop you.
She hit her combadge.
Jordan: Mackler to Security. Please send some officers to Admiral McCormick's quarters as soon as possible and make sure they're armed with phasers set on a high stun. Also, take him to sickbay and make sure he stays in an unconcious state. I'll be there as soon as I can.
She walked over to Draco and picked him up. He slowly came around and Jordan was able to relax a little. He was weak but alive. She then turned to ONE.
Jordan: I hearby relieve the Section Admiral of his duties and say that he will remain in the base sickbay until further notice. I also suggest that you accompany him to sickbay. I'll be in my quarters if I need to be found.
She was about to walk out of the room when she noticed a kind of mist in one area of the room. It then disappeared from sight. She mentally noted what she had seen and walked out of the room and to her quarters. ONE couldn't move or speak. He was so shocked by the way she had spoken to him and how she had just conducted things. He wasn't sure whether to pat her on the back or court martial her for insubordination. He finally pulled out his phaser and set it to stun and waited for security to arrive. Jordan laid Draco down on a pillow and left him there to recover. She made sure that he was safe and then her combadge beeped.
Art: Art to Jordan
Jordan: Yes?
Art: The transmitter's done.
Jordan looked at the time and her brow furrowed.
Jordan: What happened to you saying it would take a few hours?
Art: I worked fast. You can stay there but I wanted to tell you that we were going to send Roz to put the transmitter on McCormick since they're such good friends.
Jordan: What's the bonding agent?
Art: It's a very adhesive glue. It would take a lot to get the transmitter off. The transmitter is about the size of Draco's eye.
Jordan: Thanks Art. Contact me when everything's up and running.
She then sighed and left the room to go deal with Nova in sickbay.

So distracted were her thoughts by what she had just witnessed, Karynn had difficulty retaining her mist-like form. This, this ... Mackler person had proven to be a formidable enemy! She was thankful her instincts had warned her earlier or that could have easily been her instead of Nova sprawled unconscious on the floor. She knew Duke was still not as strong as she had become, but the wildcard was this frustrating little Dragon that accompanied Mackler. For some odd reason, Draco was impervious to her mental projections. On top of that, the malicious flying demon sensed who and what she'd become. She would have to deal with him and soon.
Knowing she couldn't return to her quarters, McCormick continued to float in her fog-like cloud until she found a remote storage area in the Engineering level on Deck 38. There, she allowed herself to take solid form once again.
She paced erratically, out of sight, behind a large bin filled with opti-cable. For the first time since acquiring her unique powers, she was fearful of being caught. She knew Jordan Mackler was aware of her 'difference' and would relentlessly try to cure her... a cure Karynn did not want.
Calming herself a bit, Karynn speculated as to her adversary's next move. Obviously, she'd try to find her with the internal sensors. Realizing this, she grabbed her commbadge, wildly ripping it away from her uniform and tossed it into the open storage bin. Then, she proceeded to the one place on the station where all her bio signs would be masked. Once there, she would have to communicate with Tepes somehow and have him tell her what she should do now.

-- Admiral McCormick's Quarters --
ONE watched in silence as Jordan proceeded out of the room. There was a fight going on inside him. A part of him saw the logic in the Commander's actions, as the SA wasn't behaving normally. However, this was the first time ONE had ever met the man. Who was he to judge what was normal behavior for the Section Admiral?! Who was Commander Mackler to make such a determination either?
The mental battle was cut short by SA Nova coming to. ONE raised his phaser. Nova's eyes locked with ONE's, and he put his phaser back in its holster. Just then the security team arrived at the door.
"Sir, are you alright?" asked the team leader.
ONE didn't divert his gaze from Nova's eyes, but dismissed the security team with a wave of the hand. "Thank you, Ensign, but we're fine."
"Sir, we've been ordered to escort the Section Admiral to Sickbay." He paused. "And, sir, I'm a Lieutenant."
"That won't be necessary, Ensign."
"But sir..."
ONE finally looked away from Nova and glared at the Lieutenant. "I said, he's fine. That's an order."
"Aye sir." The security team headed out, and ONE helped Nova to his feet.
-- Sickbay, 5 minutes later --
Commander Mackler walked into Sickbay and looked around. "Where's Nova!?" she demanded of one of the doctors.
"He never arrived, ma'am," he replied.
Jordan was visibly upset. She hit her combadge. "Mackler to security. Where's Admiral Nova? Why didn't you bring him to Sickbay!?"
"Captain ONE..."
Jordan didn't even wait around to hear the rest. She stormed out of Sickbay to find the Captain.
-- Academy Commandant's Office --
ONE was expecting her. When he heard the beep, he let her in without needing to ask who was there. Jordan came in and demanded to know why he'd let Nova go.
He stood up and looked her in the eye. "Look here, Miss Mackler. I appreciate your concern and your initiative in this situation, but let's get one thing straight. I'm I'm the commanding officer, you are the subordinate. You do not give me orders."
Jordan was a little taken aback by ONE's scolding. "But captain, it is my professional medical opinion that Duke Nova is unfit for duty, and I am therefore relieving him of his command."
"By what authority, pray tell?" ONE looked somewhat smug.
"Starfleet Medical Regulation...s..."
"121 Section A?"
"Yeah, that..." Jordan shifted her weight around.
"Starfleet Medical Regulation 121 Section A gives authority to the Chief Medical Officer of a starship to relieve their captain of active duty. It does not give you the authority to relieve the Section Admiral, much less detain him! Now, if there is something you would like to say to me, you may submit it writing through proper channels. Dismissed."

Roz watched as Art picked up the transmitter he had made in such a short amount of time.
Art: Now the next challenge will be to get this on McCormick. A thing that's right now easier said than done. Who are we going to get that'll be able to get close enough to her to put this on?
He lowered his eyes as he thought and Roz knew that she would be able to get close enough to her friend. His eyes finally came up when he couldn't think of anyone. Roz smiled sheepishly at him. Realization came to him and he stood up.
Art: No.
Roz: Can you think of anyone else who wouldn't give the game away to her beforehand? Art, I'm her friend. She won't be able to refuse my request to talk to her.
Art: I won't lose you.
Roz smiled and looked at him.
Roz: Do you really think that if she attacked me that she'd be able to get a hold of me? I defeated my father.
Art: Only when you were close to death.
Roz: That's besides the point. Art, trust me on this.
Art opened his mouth in protest but then sighed and closed it. He sat down at the console and started searching through the camera feeds looking for McCormick. Roz kissed Art on top of his head.
Roz: Thanks hotshot.
He was mad at her for risking her life but at the same time admired her for it. She didn't fear death or pain. He kept going through the feeds but couldn't find McCormick. He threw his hands up in defeat.
Art: She's somewhere outside the feeds. I can't find her.
Roz: Well, maybe I can.
She hit her combadge and tried to sound as kind as possible.
Roz: =Roz to McCormick=
Karynn's reply came back almost immediately.
Karynn: Yes?
Roz: I would like to talk to you. Do you think you could meet me in holodeck 4 in 15 minutes?
Karynn's voice purred over the com link.
Karynn: I most certainly could. McCormick out.
Roz turned to Art in triumph but he wouldn't look at her. She kneeled on the ground at his feet and got herself within his field of vision.
Roz: I swear on my fighting abilities that I'll come back alive.
Art smiled at her and put his hands on both sides of her face and raised her up to kiss him.
Art: You're insane. You know that?
Roz: Hasn't it kept me alive so far? I love you hotshot. I'll be back.
They kissed one last time then Roz rose up and walked out of the room off towards the turbolifts. She got inside and as it sped away towards the holodeck, she could feel the pit of her stomach go cold as she thought about what she was about to do and what could happen. Then she shook her head and laughed. Karynn was a good friend, she wouldn't hurt Roz. Would she?

Jordan was fuming. He dared to treat her like she was some stupid naive child? She seriously thought about striking ONE but thought better of it when she remembered his armor. She didn't move however. ONE looked at her.
ONE: I said you are dismissed Commander.
Jordan: Permission to speak freely sir.
ONE nodded and sat down.
Jordan: I grant you that you know the Starfleet regulations forward and backward but I am the one holding the degree in mythology. I know the warning signs of a vampire. If you would permit me to examine Nova, I would be able to prove to you or myself on who is right. If you insist on continuing on this trail of thought of it just being coincedence, then you will be condemning the base to a wave of fear and suspicion. I don't want anyone to get hurt but if I'm right, then we are all in danger. Nova was acting strangely when I found you and him and he's not the only one. Admiral McCormick has also been acting out of the ordinary. Others all over the universe on our ships and bases have been acting the same as Nova and McCormick. You also say that only the Chief Med Officer of the base can relieve someone of Nova's rank. From what I've seen of the base's sickbay, there is no CMO of the base. I have seen only attendants and the EMH.
She waited for his response. ONE sighed.
ONE: Request denied.
Jordan's eyes flashed and her hands clenched behind her back. The words escaped her before she could stop them.
Jordan: Then sir, you are a fool and condemn us to death. And from what I observed from when I entered the room with you and Nova in it, I relieve you of duty. Nova has control over you and so you are unable to control your own thoughts.
ONE stared at her. He rose to his feet. This young woman had guts and he wasn't sure whether to smile, a difficult thing to do, or yell at her. Jordan realized what she had said and winced.
Jordan: I'm sorry sir. I overstepped my limits. However, I ask one last time for permission to examine any wounds or injuries Nova might have sustained. That includes any bruising I might have had a hand in creating.
ONE crossed his arms in front of him and thought about it.
ONE: You have given me a good deal to think about. I will think about your request and get back to you. Until then, I suggest you get some rest. You've been through a lot lately. Dismissed.
Jordan stood straighter and nodded.
Jordan: Thank you sir.
She left the room and went to her own room and fell asleep on the couch. Her mind raced with nightmares of vampires and then the face of the fear vampire entered her mind and she was trapped inside her own mind for a long time.

Roz stepped out of the turbolift and walked to the holodeck. Once outside, she took a deep breath and entered. Karynn was already there and immediately Roz saw that something was different.
Roz: Thanks for meeting me here on such short notice Karynn.
Karynn: No problem. I wasn't doing much at the time anyway. So, why did you call me here?
Roz immediately blanked on what to say next and then thought of the jungle scene that she had heard of Jordan using. She brought that up but unlike Jordan, she made the area upload on night. Karynn smiled when she saw that she would have a distinct advantage in the dark. Roz was such a powerful young woman. She couldn't wait to make Roz one of her own. They walked off into the forest together and they pointed out things to each other. Nothing had happened yet when a nundu stepped out onto the path in front of them. Roz froze completely at the sight. The nundu was a jaguar the size of a volkswagon beetle! Karynn just stared it in the eye and the nundu stopped growling and froze. Roz noticed the nundu seemed to be under a trance of sorts and took the chance to silently walk up behind Karynn and slip the transmitter onto her uniform. She then stepped back and went into her first level of attack, her eyes turned green. Karynn told the cat to go away and it slowly padded off. Then she noticed that Roz was behind her and turned around. Might as well get her in a trance too while she was in the mood. She looked into Roz's eyes and saw they were green. She was confused on what that meant, either she knew about Karynn's transformation or she had just put up her first level of defenses as a result of the nundu entering their path. Their eyes locked and Roz found she couldn't move.
Karynn: Why are you standing all the way back there? Come here and I will give you a little kiss.
Roz found her legs moving towards Karynn and in a few seconds, she was standing right in front of Karynn. Karynn smiled and Roz could see the pointed canines.
Karynn: You shall be a strong asset to me and to my master.
Roz closed her eyes as she felt Karynn take a hold of her neck and shoulder. Karynn started to lean in on Roz when a voice deep inside Roz's head told her to fight back. Her eyes snapped open and she hit Karynn in the stomach. Karynn dug her nails into the side of Roz's neck as she let go and Roz stepped back a bit. She put a hand to her neck and saw the blood. Karynn straightened up and smiled. So, her prey wanted to fight back, all the more fun for her. She charged and Roz dodged out of the way just in time. Karynn spun around and charged again. Their hands locked and Roz could feel Karynn's nails digging into the back of her hands. Roz then sensed the tree behind her and dropped backwards to the ground, not letting go of Karynn. She then kicked Karynn away and Karynn's back hit the tree. She got up without a scratch on her and Roz decided to kick things up to mode two and blinked. Karynn paused slightly when she saw Roz's eyes turn yellow but then attacked. Roz didn't want to kill Karynn, she just wanted to knock her out so Roz could get out of the holodeck and back to her quarters or, even more logical, to sickbay. They dodged and hit each other for many minutes and then something came out of the forest behind Karynn. It had a man's head, a lion's body, and a scorpion's tail. A manticore. It spotted Karynn first and charged her. She had to spin around to defend herself, which gave Roz the opportunity to make a break for the door. She was almost there when a snake with three heads got in front of her. It lunged out and two of its heads missed her but one of them struck true and bit her ankle. She then upload sais and killed it. She then fainted as the poison started to take effect.

After the festivities of the Hanson graduation, S'reena found it time to confront Karynn with her apparent illness. She left the party and went in search for her, assuming she would be in her office. There, she was met by Captain ONE, and his holographical copy, Captain TWO, who oddly enough was wearing admiral's pips on his uniform.
"Captain," she exclaimed, pleasantly surprised to see her old commanding officer, "what are you doing here? Where is admiral McCormick? It is important that I see her..." She idly fingered the hypospray she was carrying, loaded with a vial of antibodies, the human cure. She was oblivious to Nova's presence. <assuming he's still there>

Enjoying the physical entertainment, Karynn whirled upon the Manticore with a smile upon her face. With Tepes’s words ringing in her mind, she was able to transform herself into an exact likeness of the Manticore. She was mindful of creating a slightly smaller version of the animal so she could remain quicker and more agile. As her challenger crouched in a cat-like manner, Karynn lunged forward and tackled. The two Manticores rolled and tumbled together, tails flaying wildly as each tried to deliver a fatal sting. Karynn sunk her claws deeply into the soft underbelly of her opponent which caused it to scream and loosen its hold on her. Now, standing over her slumped rival, she struck with her scorpion-like tail, delivering a lethal dose of poison. As it writhed in pain, struggling to breathe, Karynn’s shape faded into normal and she watched it as it took its last gasp of breath.
Karynn then turned her attention to the one who had lured her here – Roz Drouet. She found her, near the exit, her eyes rolled back and her body trembling as the toxicity of the poison spread through her. The three-headed serpent that had delivered the bite was no where to be found.
“What a pity,” Karynn said to her unconscious friend. “The poison in your veins has made you most unappetizing.” She bent down and easily scooped up Roz, carrying her outside into the empty corridor and depositing her gently, leaning her upper torso against a bulkhead. “Someone will surely see you here and rescue you, my brave friend… sorry to have to leave you here, but I’m sure you understand why I must depart.”
Karynn left Roz, unknowingly carrying the transmitter Roz had secretly stuck onto her back. She could sense in her mind that Duke was not captured as she had feared, but felt he was nearby. To hide her movements throughout the station, Karynn decided to morph into a large, black housecat. Skulking through the corridors, she made her way toward Duke, still carrying the transmitter.

In her transformed body, Karynn meandered through the Promenade deck, weaving in and out of table and chair legs, every once in a while brushing the trousers of those dining al fresco. No one noticed her in her black cat disguise until out of nowhere a small child caught hold of her and held her in a smothering embrace crooning, “Ooooo, Daddy, may I keep the pretty kitty? She looks so lost and lonely.” Upon hearing her admirer, Karynn delivered a quick swipe of her claws and the child sent her sprawling to the deck. Of course, she landed on her feet. She padded off, the child’s cries growing weaker into the distance as she headed for Duke’s location.
As fate would have it, Duke was in Karynn’s quarters, just where she’d last encountered him. Surprised, but pleased he’d escaped capture, she was curious as a… well, as a cat as to how he’d escaped Jordan Mackler and her pesky pet. She sat outside the door of her quarters, twitched her tail and waited.
Inside, Duke Nova felt the presence of someone outside the door. As if summoned, he rose from the couch and dutifully opened the door. A black cat entered and began rubbing its soft fur against Nova’s pantleg. He bent down, picked her up and held her close to his face studying her eyes. The cat began licking the cuts on his face. The wounds that Mackler’s pet dragon had given him were deep and still bleeding. The cat’s rough tongue and continuous purring lulled and soothed Nova into an even greater passivity.
Suddenly, the form of the cat dissipated and Nova was holding Karynn. Overjoyed at being near her again, he kissed her, the taste of his own blood on her lips.
Karynn allowed the embrace then agilely wrenched free of his arms.
“You have evaded capture, that pleases me,” she told him. She circled him, as if surveying an animal she herself had captured. “Tell me, is ONE with us?”
“I wasn’t able to bring him into our fold… there wasn’t time… but I touched his mind and clouded his thinking. Through him, I was able to avoid Ms. Mackler’s invitation to visit sickbay.” Nova hoped this was acceptable to Karynn. He wanted so to please her now.
“We must act quickly, my pet,” McCormick cooed. “I fear we don’t have much time to complete our tasks. Our first order of business is that of persuading our dear CMO to see things our way.” Karynn moved closer to Nova and stroked his cheek lightly. “We will do it together, you and me, and this time, we will kill that little dragon of hers.”
The two of them set off arm and arm toward the main medical facility.

Cats scratch when brought into ehm....a eh....*crap what do you call it?* a tight spot?
If I were a cat and a kid would nearly squeeze the life outta me, I'd claw it too....clawing for a cat is a means of self-defence isn't it?
uhm Karynn.....when did Nova get to your quarters? In my post I placed him still in the office, with ONE <assuming he was still tehre since there was no mention of him leaving, unless he can walk when unconscious? OR I must have missed something?>
