His ears were ringing constantly. His eyes were squinting at the bright overhead lights. And a smile the size of the galactic barrier was on his face.
Tony grinned at the cadets who were seated in the front row of seats. It was probably the first time since the start of the mission 5 weeks ago that he had seen them in a clean uniform.
A nod from the security officer doorman signaled the room was full to capacity.
“Ladies and Gentlemen!” Tony said loudly into the microphone and the room quieted to a quiet whispering buzz, “First of all I’d like to say how proud I am of the young people graduating today. They were thrown headfirst into a situation that would have challenged even the most seasoned officer, and they handled it with a professionalism that would impress the federation council itself. Each of them demonstrated that they have the talents and qualities that are needed to be a Starfleet officer.”
“Matt Reynolds, Promoted to full lieutenant!”
“Shikako Kedzie, Promoted to Civilian 2nd class!”
“Sarlina Vise, Promoted to lieutenant junior grade!”
“Travor Gonto, Promoted to Ensign!”
The room rang with applause as the cadets made their way up. They each smiled as they received their pips and graduation certificate, before shaking each of their instructor’s hands.
“Now I’m sure you’ve all noticed that a few cadets were not called up. And, no, that doesn’t mean we’ve decided to have them take the cruise again.” Some people chuckled, others looked annoyed at the hold up. “In each training mission there are always some cadets that go above and beyond. They encourage others, demonstrate their knowledge in a way that contributes to the ship, and overall do damn amazing job!”
“Reman Jared, as well as being promoted to full lieutenant, is awarded the Academy Ribbon!”
“Damion Jhukat, as well as being promoted to lieutenant junior grade, you are also awarded the Academy Ribbon!”
Both came up, shook hands, had ribbons pinned on the chests, and had pips put on their collars. He whispered quick congratulations to each before they went to stand with the other graduates.
“Now I would like to ask E’liana BeTor up here!” E’liana stood up and came to stand by Tony, looking wary of being called up on her own. “Cadet, I am pleased to be the one to promote you to lieutenant junior grade and bestow upon you the highest award the academy offers- the Academy Star of Excellence!” Everyone applauded her as she took the pips and medal.
“We’re going to be watching you cadet, Make us proud.” He said in her ear before she went with the others.
“Now please one last applause for our new officers!” He clapped with everyone else, “Now please join us for the celebration feast! Enjoy! And Congratulations!
OFF: The ranks are not for sure. You will be recieving official ranks a bit later! Congrats all, it was great simming with you!

For Jared, this was probably about the proudest moment in his life. It was only a shame his family were not there to see it, wherever they were now. But he could share the moment with his friends and crewmates. That was about the most anyone could ask for.
After the celebrations, he went to find Dr BeTor. 'Well done on your star' he grinned at her 'you deserved it after all that work you did alone. Your next ship is going to have one hell of a CMO.' He would have hugged her as well but for the possible offence that would cause her Klingon side. Instead he offered his hand to shake.

Having sat there waiting for her name to be called out, E'Liana felt both relieved and aprehensive as she finally heard her name. ~I thought I was going to have to go through another training mission again!~
“Now I would like to ask E’liana BeTor up here! Cadet, I am pleased to be the one to promote you to lieutenant junior grade and bestow upon you the highest award the academy offers- the Academy Star of Excellence!” Everyone applauded her as she took the pips and medal.
“We’re going to be watching you cadet, Make us proud.” She heard the Captain whisper in her ear, she left feeling somewhat puzzled. As she made her way back to her seat, she didn't hear anything except the last words: “...And Congratulations!"
After the celebrations were over, E'Liana noticed Reman Jared winding his way to her.
"Well done on your star" She noticed he was grinning quite madly. "You deserved it after all that work you did alone. Your next ship is going to have one hell of a CMO.".
E'Liana smiled nervously, shaking the hand Jared held out. "...Thanks, I guess, it's rather a shock. I suppose I should tell my family when I get back to the base." She felt her ridges flush ~How many times in a day can that happen?!~ She thought, annoyed. Looking around at all the happy faces, E'Liana wondered why she too wasn't as happy as she should be, but shook it off as nerves.

Jason stepped to the front of the room, and up to the podium. "Ladies and Gentleman! May I have your attention please!" he called. The room quieted, and turned to face him. He nodded for Jordan to join him.
"I did not get a chance to do this before Captain Marcell concluded the ceremony, but I have some business to conduct of my own. Would Lt BeTor come forward please?" he said, looking towards her. She came up, looking slightly confused.
"First of all, allow me to be the first to congratulate Ms BeTor, whom I trained personally, on her promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Also, I was like to commend Lt BeTor on her performance during the training mission. Due to certain...indiscretions...on my part, she was forced to assume the responsibilities aboard ship that I normally perform myself. And she carried out these responsibilites admirably."
By this time, Jordan had reached the front and was standing to the side of the podium next to Jason. He looked over at her, then at E'Liana briefly, then continued.
"Captain Marcell has bestowed upon you the rank of Lieutenant. However, you have not yet been awarded the title of Doctor. Before one can take this title, they must take what is known as the Hippocratic. For those of you who don't know her, though many of you do, the woman now standing next to me is Doctor Jordan Mackler, Chief Medical Officer of the USS Hepta, our other Academy Ship, and she was also my Instructor back when I was a Cadet. I have asked her to repeat for you the Oath which you about to take upon yourself."
Jordan stepped forward somewhat, then began.
I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.
I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.
I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.
I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.
After she had finished, she stepped back. Jason looked at E'Liana, then continued. "Now, E'Liana, repeat after me." He recited it, pausing every few words to have E'Liana repeat it.
After that was done he smiled and turned to the audience. "It is now my honor and privilege to present to all of you Doctor E'Liana Betor."
He turned to Illito. "Congratulations, Doctor." As he shook her hand, the room burst out in applause, with the Medical Staff risen to their feet.

S'reena smiled as she listened to Captain Marcell announce the graduees. He seemed to be in an extremely happy and enthusiastic mood for some odd reason and S'reena couldn't begin to guess why. She'd never seen him like this, but she was glad that he was no longer appearing to be moody and glum as he had at the beginning of the training mission.
She bounced Yarna on her knee, in a vain attempt to keep the child quiet. THe child however, was too happy to be quiet and she was her energetic usual self so S'reena at last decided to just let her crawl over the podium. She was sure that any officer present would catch her if she threatened to fall of if she were out of her mother's reach.
With motherly pride, she watched and applauded as Damion was promoted and awarded the Academy Ribbon. The young Trill certainly decerved the award for his dedication shown during the crisis the Hanson had gone through.
At the end of the ceremony, Damion came walking towards her and openly thanked her. She shifted Yarna on her arm and blushed, smiling uncomfortably. The Romulan first officer wasn't used to getting thanked, for anything. "It was my job lieutenant," she said, "and also my privelege. I hope you will serve under a good CO, and that you will serve him or her as well as you have served us."
She smiled as she extended a hand in offering for congratulations towards the other cadets. "Ms BeTor, well done and very much earned," she said, "you have shown yourself to be an excellent doctor." She turned and gazed at the remaining cadets in turn. "You all have shown yourselves to be extremely capable. Don't ever let your future commanding officer down! In letting them down, you will be letting us down."
She watched Marcell as he too approached the bunch of graduees. "Nice speech captain," she said, and flashed a radiating smile at him, "and may I comment that I've never seen he captain this enthusiastic or happy before?"

When E'Liana heard her name mentioned again, she felt a brief moment of panic. Not used to being in the spotlight at all, she was finding this very strange indeed, and very different to celebrations on Qo'Nos where the names were read out and then drinking and songs commenced.
She walked up to Dr Black and Dr Mackler, and was surprised - although, she realised, she shouldn't have been - to have to recite the oath.
"It is now my honor and privilege to present to all of you Doctor E'Liana BeTor."
She smiled slightly at the crowd of people clapping, and noticed Rachel wink at her from her seat. She nodded again and sat back down in her chair, not wanting to get up for quite some time.
E'Liana noticed a crowd around the Commaner and so reluctantly got up and joined them.
"Ms BeTor, well done and very much earned," S'reena said, "you have shown yourself to be an excellent doctor." E'Liana smiled again.
E'Liana attempted to make eye contact with Jared, but he was in conversation with one of the instuctors, and so she left him to it and went to get a drink and something to eat...she realised she hadn't eaten properly for quite a while...

Damion noticed that BeTor was trying to speak to Jared but he didnt seem to notice... she went to the food and drink layed out and collected a plate , damion went after her.
"So where do you plan to warp off to now klingon?"
For the first time since they met Damion saw BeTor smile , she seemed to get that his referring to her as klingon was a friendly gest.
"By the way i was wrong , your better looking when your smiling"
She looked at him a moment unable to know quiet how to take that ..
He glanced over to where Jared was talking with the instructers...
"Remans a lucky guy"
With that he put his plate down in the middle of the table and turned towards the door.. he walked quickly out onto the prominade and headed for the window he knew must be "Facing home"

For those of you Graduates who have not yet been told of this, we would like to encourage you to take some time to fill out our Academy Graduate Debrief form: s47.org/academy/acadrev1.phpThis will allow you to evalute and give your opinion of the mission you have just passed through. If you do not find your Instructor listed on the form, select "No Instructor" and make a note in the Comments section who your Instructor was. Feel free to be honest and candid on this form, as your Instructor will not be reading it themselves.

Kedzie was called up for graduation, which she found unnecessary, since she doubted she had achieved what she had wanted to on the mission, she wasn’t sure that she ever could. The reason she had joined a Starfleet training mission wasn’t because she wanted to explore new civilizations, but because she wanted to learn about the sides of old civilizations. Besides, she was sure that there were many songs that could be sung about stars and the sort of adventure that Starfleet missions involved.
Returning back to her seat, Kedzie saw her sister and her parents in the audience, and let out a huge grin. Matt glanced at her, wondering what she was so happy about. When the ceremony was over, she rushed over to her parents, but she wasn’t sure what to say at first. Then the words came to her. “I didn’t expect you to be here, how did you even know?” Kedzie asked. Sure, she had sent letters to her family, and she had even told them that she was on a Starfleet training vessel, but she hadn’t mentioned the upcoming graduation, she hadn’t had the time to.
“I must say, I was a little surprised when the invitation came,” Kedzie’s sister, Laias, said, teasingly. “I didn’t think that you had wanted to join Starfleet.”
“Didn’t the invitation say I was a Civilian?” Kedzie asked, confused.
“Well, yes,” Laias admitted. “But we decided to come anyway. It isn’t often that you get pinned down to one place long enough for us to visit.”
“But I visit you guys all the time,” Kedzie reminded them.
“Yeah, well this time we wanted to see what you were up to. And to surprise you,” Kedzie’s mother said. “It was your father’s idea,” she continued, with a nod to Kedzie’s father.
“Any idea where you are going to go next?” Laias asked. “So we can know where to plan the next trip?” Laias smiled, but Kedzie could tell that her sister was only half-joking.
“Wherever the stars take me,” Kedzie answered.
Laias rolled her eyes. “Seriously Kedzie! That’s what you always say! Don’t you even have a clue of what you want to do next?”
“Yeah, I do,” Kedzie admitted. Then she started to say something else, and decided against it. Instead she winked at her sister, and Laias sighed, knowing that she wasn’t going to get anymore out of Kedzie. “I have friends to talk to,” Kedzie said. “I trust you guys planned on doing something besides just visiting me?” she asked, since she already knew that her parents wouldn’t come out of here just to visit her, she had been right, she did visit them a lot.
“Yeah, we did,” her father admitted. “But we brought you some fresh food, I know it’s far better than all of the replicated stuff. So we’ll just drop it by you quarters, then we have a shuttle to catch.”
Kedzie smiled at her family, then hugged them quickly, before they left. On her own, she looked around to see if there was still someone willing to talk to her.

As usual, YrDis decided to stay out of the way of the cadets during the graduation. He had found that they usually wanted to enjoy themselves after a cadet cruise, and generally a counsellor hanging around created unnecessary tension. And these cadets certainly didn't need any more tension after all they had been through.
Tony certainly seems to be in a good mood, YrDis thought to himself as he moved over to the buffet table.

After Jason was done with his part of the ceremony, he stepped down from the podium. He looked over at the buffet table, and realized how hungry he was.
He walked through the crowd, and got in the semi-long line formed at the end of the table. As he was waiting, he noticed that most of those going through the line were passing a small section. He looked over, and there sat a rather sizable pile of barbequed chicken, just the way he liked it. The chef had been paying attention to the Senior Staff's tastes. He went over and loaded his plate.
Then he noticed E'Liana slightly ahead of him in the line, after they were both through, he went up to her.
"Well, Lieutenant, congratulations. I'm convinced that the Cadets put me through more work than I do with them, and you were no exception. Congratulations especially on the Star. I must be fortunate in whom I get to train, because it almost always seems to go to my Medical cadets."
"So, where to next for you? Do you know yet?"

Kedzie looked at the buffet table, but she wasn’t really that hungry. Then again, everyone else seemed to be concentrated there, and she was beginning to feel sort of lonely just standing around on her own. Kedzie decided to stand where people went after they got their food, hoping that then she would be able to talk to someone else, either the former cadets or the instructors, as long as she could talk to someone. She hadn’t received her orders yet, so she might be there for a while, and she was curious if others had gotten their orders, and if they knew what ship they would be reporting to.

After spending about 20 minutes staring out of the window , The young lieutenant decided to walk back into the Graduation party.
He didn't want to head straight back to get food but he went for a drink. He decided to have a Terran drink. He had often had wine and never tried champagne so he took a large glass of it and swallowed it in one. The person pouring looked a little shaken but Damion just picked up another two and headed across the room where Kedzie was standing.
"Would you like some company?" He handed her the spare Champagne

"Would you like some company?" Damion asked as he handed Kedzie a glass of Champagne.
"Yes, I would, thank you," she replied, accepting the glass. She picked it up as if she was going to drink it, but instead sniffed it warily. She then took a small sip, and found it a little pleasant. "Do you know for sure where you are going to go after this?" she asked. "What ship you’re going to?" Kedzie paused, and suddenly realized that she had forgotten something.
“Congratulation on the Academy Ribbon,” she commented. She wasn’t sure what else really to say, she didn’t really know what Starfleet standard procedure was in a situation such as this, should she say something besides offering him congratulations? Kedzie decided against it, and simply smiled at Damion instead.

“I’m going to stay with Starfleet,” Kedzie said, telling Damion a lot more than she had told her sister. Then again, her sister didn’t really expect to get an answer out of Kedzie.
“I haven’t applied for a vessel, didn’t really feel a need to. I’m sure that they’ll be able to find somewhere for me, but I’m not in any particular hurry, although I do sort of wonder who the new crew will be. And whether they’ll be as much fun to work with as the instructors and all the rest of the Cadets, including yourself, have been. Anyway, I’m sure that I’ll do fine. I’ve always liked to move around a lot, as my family would tell you I tend not to stay in one place for a long period of time, and Starships don’t either, so I think that I might have found somewhere to be for a while.” Kedzie realized that she had been rambling for a while, and wanted to give Damion a chance to talk, so she sipped the Champagne again, thinking that then he could tell a little about himself.

Damion noticed kedzie was sipping champagne slowly and decided it was a good idea to do the same.
"Seems like you lead an exciting life , and i must admit i was surprised at you on the ship , to be honest i didn't think you would care for the danger of a federation mission" She took another sip and asked him about himself. "So why did you join , you like danger?"
he grins and laughs
"No I'm not that guy , i just wanna see everything , and the Federation is the best way to do that. I joined as Tactical / security cos my skills suggest defense and i didn't want to be a marine" "So what type of music do you play?"

"So what type of music do you play?" Damion asked.
"Nothing terribly exciting, I’m afraid. It’s definitely a traditional style, but sometimes I’ll make up my own words or add different music, but it’s still in line with the traditional Bajoran stuff. I know some people don’t really like that sort of thing, I even know that some people think that it’s too slow, but they obviously don’t spend much time listening to it." Kedzie smiled a little, remembering how much care her parents had taken to make sure that Kedzie knew how important it was that she know her Bajoran heritage.
"Of course, I recently learned to play the flute, which obviously isn’t a traditional Bajoran music, but you can play some of the Bajoran music with it, and it really changes the music quite a bit. I would like to learn some other music, but haven’t really gotten around to it, what with this dangerous mission and all." Kedzie smiled a little. "Do you like to listen to music?" she asked. "Or play an instrument?"

"Actually i like really old Terran music , but i don't play an instrument , i wanted to once but i guess things get in the way of that"
He really meant that losing an arm gets in the way of that but he didn't feel like winging , and it always sounds like an excuse when he said that.
"Hey do you wanna go and get some coffee at Tante Marie's bakery on the promenade?"
He hoped she would say yes, he had been on his feet along time and wanted to sit down to talk.

"I guess things get in the way of that," Damion said, glancing subconsciously at his arm. Kedzie felt like a fool, not to have realized it.
"Hey do you wanna go and get some coffee at Tante Marie's bakery on the promenade?" Damion asked, interrupting the awkward silence.
"Sure, that would be fun," Kedzie replied. "Although I may not want coffee, but I’m sure that I can find something good there. I’ll follow you," Kedzie said.
OOC: I think a new thread would be appropriate.

E'Liana watched Damion as he seemed to look over her shoulder at someone.
"Reman's a lucky guy" He stated, then went very quiet. E'Liana smiled vaguely, confused, and set her plate down. Damion put his plate down and walked to the prominade...completely baffled - and slightly offended - E'Liana sat down and ate.
She wondered where her family was. They had agreed to come when she had told them about the ceremony, but knew that they would have trouble getting here. She had hoped to see them all for a little while, but it didn't seem that this was the case.
Just then, Dr Black came up to her.
"Well, Lieutenant, congratulations. I'm convinced that the Cadets put me through more work than I do with them, and you were no exception. Congratulations especially on the Star. I must be fortunate in whom I get to train, because it almost always seems to go to my Medical cadets."
"It must be something to do with the medical profession...." she stated, and smiled slightly at him.
"So, where to next for you? Do you know yet?" Asked Jason.
E'Liana thought for a moment. "You know, I don't know yet...I'm just watching and waiting for now. At the moment I don't really mind where I go, so long as the place I do go doesn't mind pets...I was thinking of getting a cat. Are we allowed pets, or is it up to the Captain of the vessel? I don't want to get one if I can't have it with me, poor thing..."
She continued to eat her food with relish, although she was trying to eat more sedately ~...knowing this crowd, they'll blame my Klingon parent for my eating habits, but I think it's just me in the family who's like this!~
She heard the doors to the room open and heard rather than saw her mother first. "E'Liana! Congratualtions darling!" E'Liana closed her eyes in frustration for a brief moment before opening them again and plastering a grin on her face. She loved her mother, but she was rather...annoying at times. Behind her mother came her half sister Mary, smiling apologetically and Koh'mak - her Klingon half brother. Both siblings managed to squeeze in a 'well done' in between E'Liana's mother's babblings.
"Oh, this must be your instructor dear..." Said her mother, staring at Jason's pips and medical uniform.
"Er...yes, mum, it is." Feeling sorry for Dr Black, and for herself.
"SO he's the one who was acting irresponsibly then, eh?" Her mother eyed the Doctor menacingly. E'Liana cringed. "Mum! He was suffering from the virus..."
As she sat down, the elder woman managed a "hmm" which seemed to show that she didn't believe her daughter. "I hope you haven't been giving her a hard time because she's half-Klingon..."
"No Mum, he hasn't, and you haven't even said hello to him yet." E'Liana said, trying not to cry. ~This is so embarrasing! Help me someone!~
Dr Black however, looked unphased although she was sure he didn't feel that way. Just then, E'Liana's father walked in and sat down at the table with the rest of the family and Dr Black. He nodded quietly to the other man, as though showing solidarity against his wife's display - having seen the look of distress on his daughter's face. He decided to try and speak. A formidable task with such a wife.
"I assume you are Dr Black? I am Martok - no, not the leader of the Empire, but just a guy with the same name.." E'Liana and Koh'Mak rolled their eyes at this familiar joke, but did not say anything.
<Tag Black - you can run if you like! ;-)>

Jared left the party not long after BeTor's parents had arrived. It wasn't a coincidence; he had known BeTor's father from some time ago and seeing him had brought back painful memories. It was also hard being the only one there apparently without relatives or anyone beyond Starfleet. He managed to slip out the door without anyone noticing and headed for his quarters, keeping an eye out to make sure he didn't run into Jhukat and Shikako who had left a little earlier.
Once he was in his quarters, he tapped on Sprite's casing and woke the little robot up. 'Show me the logs' he said and plugged a hand held screen into a socket on the side of the robot. The screen started to display the mission logs of the Ambition and Jared smiled sadly as he read through them yet again. After a little while, he started preparing the things he needed for tonight and the next few days and what could be put away for when his transfer orders came. Having done what he needed to, Jared fell into a deep sleep, feeling now at peace for a little while after his tragic trip down memory lane.
OOC: for slightly more (but not much) history on what happened, it's in my bio.

"You know, I don't know yet...I'm just watching and waiting for now. At the moment I don't really mind where I go, so long as the place I do go doesn't mind pets...I was thinking of getting a cat. Are we allowed pets, or is it up to the Captain of the vessel? I don't want to get one if I can't have it with me, poor thing..." E'Liana said, with compassion unusual for a Klingon
Jason thought for a moment. "As far as I know, Starfleet permits it. However, a Captain can void that aboard their ship if they wish. So check with your CO before you transfer. But most of open to it."
Just then, her family came it. Her mother was a cheerful, outgoing person. Much like Jason's own mother, he noted. Her father joined them a minute later
Jason acknowledged Martok. "Pleased to meet you, sir." He then looked at his face. "Although, with your facial features, a little cosmetic surgery, and I could make you look like Chancellor Martok, though I couldn't do anything for your voice. But I would probably get thrown out of Starfleet for doing that," he said, chuckling.
He then turned to E'Liana's mother. "Well, as a matter of fact, I have been giving your daughter a hard time." He saw the mothers face harden at that. "But don't worry, it has nothing to do with her species. I challenge all my Cadets, to make them the best Chief Medical Officers possible. And as far as the impropriety, theres no real excuse for it. I was not confirmed as suffering from the virus, and allowed myself to be seduced by a fellow Chief Medical Officer. I deserved to be relieved of my position. Now, I hope you don't mind if I eat some of this," he said, indicating his plate.
He started to pick up a piece of chicken carefully, but then something occured to him. "Wait, what am I concened about? I'm in the company of Klingons!" He grabbed a piece in his hand, and brought it to his mouth, tearing off a large piece of meat, and sucked it into his mouth, smiling as he chewed.

"Wait, what am I concened about? I'm in the company of Klingons!" E'Liana laughed as she heard this, thinking that although it was a generalisation, it was disturbingly true.
Her laugh, however, was engulfed by that of her father's who slapped Jason heartily on the back "That's what I like to hear!" And he got up to get some food. The other member's of the family soon followed suit.
"I'm sorry you're stuck here sitting with my family, but they seem to like you..." She looked around once more for Jared but could not see him. Deciding that the offer of a drink was not really meant, E'Liana sighed and continued to eat.
