Preparations were going well, S'reena thought, looking over the handiwork of herself and a handful of the Hanson crew. Recently, she had had word from the Academy Commandant, that the acting captain of the Hanson had been given permanent command of the ship. Now that the Hepta had left on a mission, and the issues with the vampires had been dealt with, they now had time to fix a little party for the CO.
"Have you got the Klingon dishes?" she asked, swallowing as the crewman indeed produced the wiggling dish. Now that her pregnancy was progressing, S'reena had not the stomach to eat much that was not either plain Romulan food, or Human food. "Thank you," she managed, "please set that away. Were invitations to all crew sent? Do they know when to show up for the surprise? Is Marcell sufficiently distracted so he won't find out about this?"
The crewman bobbed his head in acknowledgement to every question. "Yes ma'am," he replied, "Commander Salek is having the captain in sickbay for his quarterly check-up, or so the captain is made to believe. The commander will take the captain here in about half an hour."
S'reena nodded her approval. "Good, though I hope Salek is up to it, because last time the captain was called down, he wasn't very pleased. Though, knowing what the poor doctor has to put up with on occasion, I think he can handle just about anything!" She chuckled, then went on with decorating the hall. "Hand me those please," she said, pointing at a brightly red colored string, then attached it to the wall when it was reached up to her. "Thank you."
When at last the room was decorated to her liking, she tapped her combadge. "S'reena to Salek. Could you come up to the main hall please? It is urgent!" She motioned all of the crew, who had entered by now, to hide behind any obstacle they could find. "Shhht, do not make a sound until he enters." She hid behind a couch herself and told the computer to dim the lights, and come on again upon sensing the captain's lifesigns enter the room.

Salek was waiting in sickbay for Marcell to show up. He decided to do Sβreena the favor of stalling him, and she promised not to cause trouble with the next exam. Not a very good bargain but at least it will give him more time to spend doing research.
After Marcell walked in Salek pointed him to a nearby bed and took a tricoder.
"This will not take long", Salek said
After saying that he began to tell a detailed scan result to Marcell, from his white cells count to the molecular composition of his liver.
<Marcell>
"I assure you captain these things are need to know should something occur and a familiar doctor is not around or the computer system is offline", Salek said
<Marcell>
"The odds of that happening are 4589:1", Salek said exaggerating, and he then started thinking why did he agree to do this at all
A half an hour and one scan later.
"You are perfectly healthy, captain"
<Marcell>
Jus then the computer voice came:
=/\=Dr. Salek and captain Marcell report to mess hall right away=/\=
"Whatβs this all about", Marcell asked
"That would be unknown to me, captain ", Salek said as they went out of sickbay towards the mess hall

"This will not take long." Salek said directing him toward the closest biobed, Antony merely grunted trying to communicate his displeasure at the exam. Salek begin to run the tricorder over the young captains body, "Well captain.." but that was the last thing Tony actually processed as the doctor launched into a very detailed summary of his health. Finally Tony put up a hand.
"Please doctor, I neither need nor want all this information."
"I assure you captain these things are need to know should something occur and a familiar doctor is not around or the computer system is offline." The vulcan said, non-chalantly. Tony laughed roughly in annoyed amusement.
"Be it that important, I'd be dead and it wouldn't matter anyway." He said, and Salek paused looking up at him with his left eyebrow raised slightly.
"The odds of that happening are 4589:1." He said simply before continuing to run the tricorder around Antony's head, which the part-klingon interpreted as slightly strange.
They sat in stoney silence for a long time until Salek finally said, "You are perfectly healthy, captain."
"I could of told you that with out any scans or wasted time..." Tony muttered.
"Dr. Salek and Capt. Marcell, report to the mess hall right away." Chimed the computers voice, saving the doctor from replying to the cool comment.
"Whatβs this all about?" Tony said looking directly at Salek who was indifferent to the message.
"That would be unknown to me, captain." he said quite calmly. Tony was feeling very grumpy and he felt his stress-levels rising.
"Lets go then!" He snapped and walked out of the room, Salek following him.
As they approuched the messhall Tony was nattering at the doctor, "You know doctor, I don't remember my records telling me my exam was this early. I think you just like giving me exams!" he said as the Salek continued to look ahead, "Yup, you like to hold it over me, don't you doc-"
"SUPRISE!!!!!" Everyone shouted, and Tony promptly fainted.

Subspace Transmission from Captain ONE, Academy Commandant, from the USS Hepta: Greetings, Captain! Captain? Did he just faint? Somebody wake him up... [Salek tries tapping on his shoulder, to no avail. S'reena replicates a small glass of cold water, and splashes it in Tony's face] Good. Now that you are concious again, I would like to offer my congratulations, though I cannot be there in person. You led the Hanson well on her last mission, and have been recognized by a promotion to full Captain, by vote of the Section 47 Command Staff! [Tony almost faints again, but is propped up by Salek] "Tha... thank you sir!" he stammers. You're welcome. ONE out.

S'reena sped forward when she saw her CO sway on his feet, then crash down towards the deck as he fainted. "Captain!" she exclaimed, but Salek beat her to it. Gently, he eased the captain down, and managed to revive him by splashing the cold water from a just replicated glass in his face. Just then, an image of Captain ONE appeared, congratulating him, and Marcell threatened to faint again.
"Now, I think this was a tad bit more than you could take," S'reena said, smiling. She got back to her feet and extended her hand to help Marcell back to his feet. "Well, I don't think I need to ask if you were surprised?" she asked, smiling, but worry was clearly visible on her face. "Anyway, congratulations captain. This party is in honor of you, because you have been permanently assigned to the Hanson, and promoted to the actual rank of captain." She reached behind her and produced a sizable piece of cake. "Not very healthy, but it sure tastes good," she grinned, and added wryly, "I tasted a bit before getting it here. I am eating for two, after all, but it was just a tad, nothing much."

Roz made her way to the "surprise party" that the crew of the Hanson had set up for Tony, now captain of the ship. She stepped inside just as Tony fainted and after ONE had disappeared, she had doubled over from silently laughing. She waited until Tony was done talking with S'reena and then approached. She walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. He spun around really quickly.
Roz: A little jumpy are we?
Tony: Roz. I thought it was another one of my crew or past instructors about to spring something else on me.
Roz: I don't think I've ever seen a Klingon faint before. Granted you're still half-Klingon but it's still the same outcome.
Tony: You're face is bright red, did you know that?
Roz: I'm sorry I just found it quite amusing how you first fainted when I came in and then when ONE arrived how you were quite knock-kneed.
Tony was speechless and Roz just kept smiling away until he smiled and started to laugh.
Roz: I think you should have something to drink. You're still pretty pale from the first shock of the moment and I suggest you also eat that cake.
Tony: Why are you worrying about me and how do you know what I need?
Roz: You're a friend, kind of. I also have a degree in human and xeno physiology and biology so I know the limits of the body and what will happen if you don't eat.
Tony took a deep breath and looked at her carefully. He then took a bite out of the cake and Roz smiled enormously. She then patted him on the shoulder and went to go mingle with the others, of whom she only knew S'reena and Salek.

Yolanda quite easily found the bakery, the smell alone led her too it, and she was pleased to discover that Lieutenant had been correct, the pastries were delicious.
There were other people scattered around the place, a few in Starfleet Uniform, mostly lower ranks, Ensigns and Lieutenants, she looked to see if there were any other cadets, but didn't see any, so choose to sit alone for the moment.
In truth it didn't bother her, she'd gotten use to being alone, for all that Earth had a hundred different kinds of 'aliens', none humans buzzing around it any given day, the Romulan in her heritage had still given enough of that unspoken... aversion, that she'd spent many hours alone... and she had to admit, she was in herself responsible in a way, she didn't go out of her way to make friends, her studies had been her constant companion.
Caitlyn had been a teaching assistant when Yolanda had submitted her PhD paper, she was several years older, and half Vulcan, they were perhaps the strangest of friends... Romulan's and Vulcan's weren't known for being the best of friends, but Caitlyn had been raised by her Human father, and was the least Vulcan like Vulcan that Yolanda had ever met... their friendship worked for them.
Yolanda spotted a few Starfleet officers headed in a little group in the same direction, she wasn't really intending to follow them exactly, it just sort of ended up like that.
Where they were going she wasn't quite sure, but when they headed towards the air locks Yolanda thought better of it.
"Cadet Baker. What a pleasant surprise, out exploring, thatβs what almost every cadet does on coming to the station."
Yolanda forced herself not to jump at the sound of the voice.
"Lieutenant, yes, I was exploring, too keyed up to sleep I suppose." Yolanda said turning to see the blue skinned Bolian from her trip here.
"I don't think I properly introduced myself before, I'm Lieutenant Kalo, so where have you been so far?" he asked.
"Ahhh the bakery... I was a little hungry, I was just going to walk around see what I could find."
"Well if you'd like to walk this way with me a little, I was about to go over to the Hanson, it's one of the Academy's training vessels, they just got a new Captain, they are having a little party for him, might give you a chance to meet some of your instructors." Kalo offered.
Yolanda considered it, she was eager to meet them, but she was hardly properly ready to do so.
"Oh come on, I am fairly sure none of them bite." Kalo said jokingly.
Yolanda nodded, and followed the blue man closer to the air locks.
The Hanson was an intrepid class vessel Yolanda knew. A fine class of ship, not just as fancy as some of the newer classes, Yolanda had seen the engine designs for the Intrepid when she was 15 and found them quite fascinating, not as powerful as some of the other classes, but it was built for exploration, not battle, so it suited its purpose.
Kalo seemed to know where he was going, and sure enough it wasn't long before they entered the ships mess, decorated for the event.
"Thatβs him over there, the new Captain, Tony Marcell... quite funny that they promoted him to Captain really, apparently last mission, well he was Acting Captain then, but right from under him the Ferengi kidnapped Rear Admiral KezTrek, she use to be the Captain of this ship, half-Vulcan, strange one too from all accounts, only ever met her the once, seemed nice enough, but quite the sense of humour for a Vulcan. Oh and that there is the ships First Officer, S'reena Hope... she's Romulan, married to one of the ships Doctor... I quite like him, nice man." Kalo continued to babble on, pointing out a few people, while Yolanda tried to take it all in.
Ferengi, Kidnapped Admirals, Romulan first officers, it all seemed a little crazy to her, she hadn't heard yet what vessel she'd be assigned to, she wondered if it would be this one... she wasn't sure if she'd like it to be or not, but at least she'd be guaranteed not to be bored.
Kalo she supposed decided to go and talk to people who were actually paying a little more attention, leaving Yolanda standing of the side of the room, with a drink she hadn't realised she'd been given, in her hands, watching what was going on around her, catching the odd snippit of conversation, and generally trying to blend back as much as possible while she contemplated possible ways to escape without it looking like thatβs what she was trying to do, she certainly didn't want to be rude.
Yolanda Baker
OFF: I hope this is okay, Cmder S'reena said it'd be okay for me to join in this thread. I think I got everything right, I was speaking to Rear Admiral KezTrek and she was nice enough to provide a bit of background on everything, I hope it's all okay.

S'reena nodded towards Roz, smiling politely, then picked up her glass. With her free hand, she picked up a dessert spoon and tapped it against her glass. "Your attention please," she called, making a mental note to say welcome to the new arrival; a young vulcan-looking woman. She waited untill the buzz had died down, then motioned for Marcell to join her. "People, as you all know, Captain Marcell started out his command carreer on the USS Hepta, and left her as her First Officer. Only recently, he lead his first mission as the commanding officer, and it ended quite successfully. And now, he is her sole commanding officer, no longer the acting one. Please put your hands together for Captain Tony Marcell!"
<Responses>
After her toast, she stepped down and walked up to the new arrival. "Greetings," she said, "I don't believe I have seen you here before, and judging by your forlorn expression, you must be a new arrival. A cadet perhaps?" She smiled encouragingly as she extended her hand towards the young woman. "I am Commander S'reena Hope, first officer, USS Hanson." She pointed towards several officers, introducing them by name. "See the Klingon over there? That is Captain Tony Marcell, the Vulcan in teal is Doctor Salek, the person overthere in the yellow tunic is Commander Balokks, someone I have not met yet myself. The other over there in the blue uniform is Commander Vendrak. And the young woman you see talking to Marcell is Roz Drouet, she's a civillian who lives here on Conqueror. Ah and last but not least, my husband, doctor Michael Hope." She pointed towards the human male who was walking towards them. The two exchanged a glance, and he gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"She's sleeping, finally," Michael said soflty, then turned to the newcomer. "Why hello, a new cadet I see? Yes, I saw your medical record just a little while ago. I see you met my wife?"

Yolanda listened to the toast, and raised her own glass a little so as not to look too out of place.
She was contemplating slipping out quietly, thinking maybe she'd stayed long enough to be polite when the Hanson's first officer approached and introduced herself.
The Commander pointed out a few people, and finally introduced her husband.
"Why hello, a new cadet I see? Yes, I saw your medical record just a little while ago. I see you met my wife?" Dr Hope said.
"Yes Sir, I'm Cadet Baker, Yolanda, you can remember my medical record sir, out of so many others?" Yolanda was surprised.
"Not too many Romulan's, or half Romulan's pass over my desk." The Doctor replied.
Yolanda nodded. Of course it made sense.
"I always pay special attention to notice when they do, I have a certain fondness for Romulan's." He said with a smile, looking tenderly at his wife.
Yolanda wasn't really sure what to say, both officers seemed very nice, and it wasn't like he hadn't had experience with Starfleet officers before, but she'd never met a Romulan Starfleet officer, though she was more than aware there were several in service.
"Relax Cadet," Dr Hope said with a smile.
"Yes Sir." Yolanda said, trying to make a visible effort to relax.

Cadet Baker and S'reena both jumped a little as they felt a slight tug on their uniforms. Looking down, they saw that the offending hand belonged to the diminutive officer S'reena had pointed out earlier in the evening as the fellow in the gold tunic.
"Greetings! You must be Commander Hope, and Doctor Hope! I am Ballokks, the new engineering instructor! I hope you don't mind my intruding, but this party is a little quiet compared to those I am used to. So formal! No matter, it is an excellent opportunity to introduce myself to you all! Ha ha ha!"
The Hopes and Yolanda exchanged brief glances, not entirely sure how to respond to Ballokks. He was only three feet tall, and his face was as a baby's, grinning excessively and pudgy. The vertically challenged alien's pate was completely bald, adding to the child-like appearance, and his eyes were large shining orbs that protruded slightly. At first glance, it looked like a young human girl had dressed a doll up in a mini Starfleet uniform. S'reena filled the silence as Ballokks beamed up at them, as the other two were still somewhat lost for words.
"Ahem... err... hello? Yes, I am S'reena, and this is my husband. And this is someone you will be getting somewhat familiar with, engineering cadet Yolanda Baker."
"Truly, it is a pleasure to meet you! I see you are surprised by my stature?"
They all tried not to look too guilty of this charge, though the cadet failed rather spectacularly and blushed mightily. This provoked yet another giggling laugh from Ballokks.
"No worry! If I were confronted with a jocular midget, I would be somewhat disturbed too! Ha ha ha! I am from the First Federation, and whilst my people are far more advanced than yours, I find my new life a most interesting distraction! Most interesting, yes! Ha ha ha!"

Mortaat stretched her legs as she disembarked from the runabout which had just brought her to the Academy. She read her PADD again, smiling proudly to herself. It was her official posting, " Commander Mortaat, CTSO, assigned to the USS Hanson "
She wanted to make a good impression so she quickly arranged for her things to be taken to her new quarters then asked for the location of her CO, Captain Marcell. She wanted to report for duty straight away. Apparently he was in the main hall. She had already familiarised herself with the stations` layout, which was typical of the Security officer - ready for anything, always ` on duty `, knowing danger could lurk in every shadow. She glanced around furtively, made sure no one was within sight then crouched in to an attack position, as if facing an enemy no one else could see. Under her breath she said, " My name is Mortaat, you killed my comrade - prepare to die ! ", then she gave a display of lightning fast kicks and punches, showing no mercy to the imaginary target. She heard a noise in the distance and stopped immediately, straightening her uniform and looking nonchalant as a crewman came into sight then passed by her, smiling pleasantly. Her face was passive as she watched him walk along, noting his demeanour, his height, estimated weight, every relevent detail. After all, you never know who could be an assassin or a crook !
Back to business she decided. Time to meet her captain. She wondered what was going on in the hall. Perhaps a symposium, with him orating to high level delegates, or an emergency briefing for some reason. She had seen his image, part Klingon so he was bound to be noble and impressive, fearless and determined, honourable of course, ready to lead his crew to battle ! She was excited at the thought of meeting him. She reached the door of the main hall. Wait a moment....no security personel at the door ? Surely if the captain was doing something important there should be security swarming everywhere ! Perhaps she was too late, something catastrophic may have already befallen the gathering. She tapped a code into the doors` keypad and stood aside. She had entered a time delay after which the door opened then she carefully peeked, unseen by those inside. When she saw what was going on, her eyes widened, shocked at the sight and sounds. It was carnage in there ! Her concentration was broken as her shoulder was bumped. It was a young woman who apologised for her clumsiness as she was hurrying to enter the fray.
Mortaat straightend up and slowly took two paces inside the hall, searching out the face of her CO. Finally she saw him. He was circled by a crowd of people. She made her way through until she stood face to face with him.
Mortaat : Captain Marcell. I am Mortaat, your new CSTO instructor, reporting for duty.
Marcell : Ah, welcome to the Academy, good to meet you Commander Mortaat
Mortaat : Sir, what has been going on here ?
Marcell studied the serious face of the officer before him, himself slowly breaking into a broad grin
Salek :: suddenly patting Mortaat hard on the back :: You`ve never been to a party before ? Relax - I prescribe you should get yourself a drink and meet your new crewmates Commander !

Tony watched Roz walk off into the crowd and smiled, remembering some of his friend Akleths descriptions of her the night before when they had met for a drink of blood wine. The large klingon had insisted he meet him, for he hadn't traded stories for a long time, Tony had only protested once that he was only a quarter klingon before giving in.
"You know," Akleth had said, "This Roz woman quite reminds me of your mother." Tony had of course become much more attentive, he had never heard of his mother ever making friends with klingons. "Strong, fearless, yet she seems to have something hidden... with your mother it was her human side, but with Roz it's something else..." Tony had not pried any further into Akleths thoughts on Roz as he had immeadiatly started questioning the older man on his dealings with his mother...
Quickly Antony brought himself back to reality. He noticed several people had entered the room during his breif day dream. Mentally, he made a note to work on avoiding that. Looking down into his hand he realized the home-baked cake had been slightly squished by his hand, and he ate it hurriedly so that none would notice.
S'reena made a toast and Tony did his best not to blush, as he had never served under a captain that had. As S'reena stepped down and went to talk to someone, Tony raised his glass to her in thanks. She smiled and continued on. Someone tapped his shoulder.
"Captain Marcell. I am Mortaat, your new CSTO instructor, reporting for duty." It was a woman, in a golden uniform and the pips of a commander. Her stare was very solid and her face serious.
"Ah, welcome to the Academy, good to meet you, Commander Mortaat!" He said, not sure of what else to say. Inside, he knew that he was still a little insecure.
"Sir, what has been going on here?" She said looking slightly distastfully around at all the dis-organization.
Marcell studied the serious face of the officer before him, himself slowly breaking into a broad grin.
Suddenly Salek ambled over, a large glass of a pink liquid in his hand and slapped Mortaat on the back, "You`ve never been to a party before? Relax- I prescribe you should get yourself a drink and meet your new crewmates, Commander!"
The young captain watched incredulously as his drunk doctor ambled off into the crowd. Amazed, his eyes found a very satisfied looking Roz leaning over the bar, corking a bottle of the pink liquid that Salek had held. Tony laughed loudly as she winked.
Mortaat looked at his captain quizzicly before relaxing ever so slightly and heading off to get some cake. Tony knew that his new officer would prove wonderfully interesting.
Tony spotted S'reena speaking to a new cadet so he headed that way, still laughing about Roz and Salek.

After Salek dragged his way out of the party, he threw his glass against the wall, after which he straightened his uniform. It was easy enough to fool the people inside that he was affected by the alcoholic drink. Luckily his medical record is classified so they couldnβt have known that it takes more then a glass of real alcohol to affect him.
He made his way towards the airlock and off the ship. Once back at SB Conqueror, he made his way to the quarters he usually inhabited while the Hanson was docked with Conqueror. It was illogical to agree to waste his time for entrainment when he could have been doing scientific work. Humans and klingons all they think most of the time is fun, food and drink.
After he entered his quarters he locked the door and made way to the computer terminal. He typed in his access codes and opened a channel with admiral Nor. It was time to check on what was happening on the outside in space.
"Ah, hello Salek i was wondering when i was going to hear from you again", Admiral Nor said
"You know me all to well sir", Salek responded
"So pretending to be drunk again? If you keep using that trick soon enough people are going to see through it", Nor said
"Unlikely admiral, no one of the people in the room has sufficient clearance to access my medical records, and they are easily fooled, they see an intoxicated Vulcan extremely funny and do not pay attention to details", Salek said
"Indeed, its a sad truth people do not see what is happening around them, they look but they do not see except a few rare ones that actually see with their eyes, and those if im safe to say work for us"; the admiral ended laughing
"But im sure you didnβt call to socialize"
"Indeed, i did not call to socialize as you put it admiral, what is the situation?", Salek asked
"The usual, Romulans at it again, renegade dominion forces take over an outpost every now and then, a new captains on some ships, some ferengi vessels gone missing......"
--One hour later--
"And that would be all what is new, at least what i think that might be of some interest to you", Nor finished
"Indeed, thank you for filling me in admiral, it can be somewhat disturbing to be out of the loop as humans put it", Salek said
"I can imagine, but as you know you are always welcome back if you get tired of the crowds down there, there will always be a space open for you here", Nor said
"If i decide to return you will be the first one to know.", Salek said
"Great, great, well if thatβs all i better get back to the reports", Nor smiled
"Yes it is all, admiral. Until we talk again", Salek said
"Till i hear from you again", Nor said as he closed the channel
After closing the channel Salek pulled down the old medical record of Anthony Marcell, psychiatric profile to be exact. It would appear our captain has not had an evaluation down for some time. Salek thought as he was reading over the classified report.

Tony spotted S'reena speaking to a new cadet so he headed that way, still laughing about Roz and Salek. Yolanda was suddenly aware that a new face had joined the little group of people around her. It seemed she was about to meet the Captain of the Hanson first hand. "Captain, having a good time?" Cmdr S'reena asked as he approched. "Yes thank-you Commander, turning out to be a much more interesting evening than I had expected to have. This is much more fun that filling out reports." the Captain replied, turning his glance towards Yolanda. She looked skittishly at Cmdr S'reena who nodded and smiled encouragingly. "I'm Cadet Baker Sir, Yolanda Baker, Congratulations on your promotion." she said, carefully reaching out a hand. The Captain nodded, returning his own hand. "Captain Marcell... Baker... I think I remember reading your record, quite the little engineering genius aren't you?" He asked. Yolanda wasn't sure what the correct answer was. On the one hand, she really was, but on the other, she couldn't exactly say she was without souding egotistiacal. Marcell laughed. "Relax Cadet, I don't bite... I leave that up to my first officer." Yolanda wasn't entirely sure what he was talking about, she'd heard about it of course, Starfleet Officers didn't go around biting people and it not get heard about, but she didn't realise the... whatever it was... had reached the Academy Starbase, it certainly hadn't been mentioned in the news reports. Everyone else laughed though, so Yolanda joined in as well. "So Cadet your Romulan aren't you." Marcell questioned a few moments later. "Half Sir, Yes Sir." Yolanda replied quickly, cautious of how her Romulan heritage could affect her, but the Captain seemed to get along well enough with his First Officer, and she was a pure breed Romulan, surely he wouldn't hold her heritage against her. "How do you feel about having a part Klingon Captain?" he asked. It was the last question Yolanda expected, and she wasn't sure how to answer it. "I'm not sure Sir, I'd never given it much concideration, I suppose, as long as my Captain, whoever that may be, is a good leader, and lets me tinker with my engines in peace, I don't have to care... I mean, it doesn't really matter, what species they are." Yolanda hoped it was an appropriate responce, she hadn't exactly had much experiance with Klingons. Yolanda Baker

S'reena blushed at the mention of biting, but knew it was mentioned in good fun. She knew also that she would be hearing the reference, as said by Marcell, for a very long time to come. Upon hearing Marcell's question about Klingon captains, she was reminded of their own prejudice towards one-another. She smiled as she heard Baker's response. "Well said cadet," she encouraged, "the species do not matter, character does. And with Captain Marcell, you are assured of good leadership, and care for the crew."

backpost to Balokks post:
"First Federation," S;reena mused, "I remember reading something about a ship called Fesarius, commanded by a person called Balok. A crewmember of the USS Enterprise, I cannot recall his name, stayed on the ship as ambassador of some kind. I fear that apart from that, I know nothing about the First Federation."
She looked down at the little man, in her eyes looking no older than a five-year old. He was just a few heads taller than her own daughter. "You must be tired of being seen as, or mistaken for a child," she mused aloud, "just out of curiosity, how old are you?"

"Ah! Someone not inhibited by useless sentiments of politeness! Excellent! Ha ha ha! I am 618 years of age, and Balok is my... I believe you would call it cousin? He is almost 700 years old! Ha ha ha!" S'reena and Michael looked at the little engineer in disbelief, but Baker seemed to be distracted, turning Ballokks saw that Captain Marcell was coming, and greeting the cadet. OOC: That completes the conversation so far I think! Ha ha ha!

"Truth be told, ms. Baker, the commander and I didn't get off on the best foot. But we're learning." Tony said with a laugh. S'reena smiled slightly, she seemed to still be smarting silently about his vampire comment.
Yolanda smiled nervously.
"Engineering hey? Have you met Mr. Ballokks yet.... I haven't...." Tony stood on tiptoe and tried to look over the crowd for the unfamiliar face. S'reena chuckled slightly. Yolanda was the one to let the captain in on it.
"I'd look closer to the floor sir." She said helpfully. Antony did so and immeadiatly found the baby-looking officer standing slightly behind S'reena.
"Commander Ballokks!" Tony exclaimed and once again did his best not to blush in embaressment, he extended a hand to the engineer. "My apologies!"
"Ahh...." Ballokks said shaking it and smirking, "Whichever supreme being there is, certainly did not mean for me to be noticed in a crowd. Though it comes in handy sometimes...." his voice trailed off and then he smiled widely again. Tony turned slightly toward the cadet being sure not to exclude the commander.
"So, cadet, tell us all a bit about yourself."

"So, cadet, tell us all a bit about yourself." Yolanda's immidiate wish was that she could safely throttle this man without being discharged from Starfleet, but somehow she didn't believe she could... she hated to be put on the spot like this. "Not much to tell that isn't in my files sir, I have a PhD in Theoretical Warp Engineering, and a 1st Class Engineering Degree with honors. I'm well use to space flight, and I can pilot any vessel you can name, well at least in theory, I've never tried it outside the holodeck." Yolanda paused, not really sure what he wanted to hear. S'reena thankfully thought to helped her along. "What about family cadet?" Ahh... THAT question! People always got uncomfortable when she spoke about her family. "My mother died when I was 13, my father just last year, other than that I don't know any of my realatives, most of them I think weren't... pleased by my parents union." There was a few seconds of silence, before Ballokks, who Yolanda would be forever thankful to spoke up. "Not pleased, by a Romulan and a Human union... why the heck not! It increases their chances for subterfuge into each others territory!" Yolanda might have been surprised by the little man was laughing, so she joined in glad for someone defusing the situation, she really was no good at these things. Thankfully even S'reena and Captain Marcell saw the funny side of things. "What about a husband of your own cadet? Any plans on that front... for a family?" S'reena asked, a hand resting on her own stomach. "No ma'am, I mean, not yet Commander, Starfleet has been my dream since I was 14 years old, right now I just want to survive the Academy. Maybe in a few years, if I meet the right person." Yolanda replied easily. "Oh I hope you don't just have to 'survive' the academy Cadet, we arenβt a bad bunch really." Marcell said. "No Sir, of course not Sir." Yolanda said, feeling more at ease. "So Cadet, where did you study?" Dr Hope asked, turning the conversation back to more actual conversation. "I did my PhD at Cal U State, and my Engineering degree at the London Sciences and Engineering Academy." Yolanda replied. "London, England?" an unknown voice asked from behind them all, and Yolanda gave a startled look when she turned around and saw an apparently Vulcan woman, wearing Rear Admiral's pips. Yolanda Baker OFF: Rear Admiral KezTrek I hope this is an okay way to include you like you asked.

KezTrek gave a very un-Vulcan like smirk as several surprised faces turned to see her. "Well really, you thought I'd leave without saying Goodbye, I'm hurt S'reena you especially should know better." She said. "Sorry Admiral, but after we docked you did seem to vanish." S'reena replied. "Well I had a few bits to take care of, but I thought I'd drop in and say Hello, and of course to Congratulate you on your promotion, CAPTAIN Marcell... nice ring to it Tony, I whole heartedly approve." KezTrek told him, reaching out to shake his hand. "Thank-you Admiral." Marcell said. "And new faces... I don't believe we've met, Cmdr Ballokks isn't it?" KezTrek asked, looking downwards. "Aye Admiral, surprised you know me ma'am." He said. "I'm notoriously bad for knowing everyone, especially the people I'm not supposed to, but as it happens, your reputation proceeds you, not every day a member of the First Federation joins the crew of an Academy Vessel." KezTrek said. "I suppose that is true." Ballokks agreed. "And a Cadet... ahh to be a cadet again... actually you couldn't pay me... but I'm sure you'll enjoy it just fine." KezTrek turned to Cadet Baker. "Yes Ma'am." Baker replied. "Ma'am, Ma'am, Ma'am, am I getting wrinkles or something, I'm too young to be a ma'am." "Sorry ma'am ahh... erm..." "Admiral." "Right, Admiral, Sorry." KezTrek chuckled a little. Ahhh Cadets, she was glad she wasn't one of them... It was far more fun to train then and tease them, than to be them, but then, KezTrek was sure Baker wouldn't have too rough a ride, the Hanson crew were generally well behaved... well... when she wasn't around to egg them on otherwise. "Anyway, as much as I'd normally love to stay and chat, and tease, and get to know you better Cadet, I really do have to run, Daniel is clearing our travel plans as we speak, maybe we'll bring little Paul with us next time S'reena. Michael, be sure to take care of this wife of yours, you know how bad she is for never resting when she's told. And Captain..." She directed her full attention to Marcell, who straightened just a little. "... Take good care of this ship and crew, of you'll find yourself on the wrong end of my Bat'leth." KezTrek winked, and giving a final nod to S'reena and Michael, and shaking hands with Baker and Ballokks, she left the little group alone again. She smiled as she walked away and heard Baker. "... her Bat'leth? I thought she was Vulcan?" RA KezTrek OFF: Cadet Baker, thanks for giving me the little in (one thing I have to love about Cadets, when you ask them to do something, they do it without having to be asked twice! ). Captain Marcell, many, many congratulations on u'r promotion, sorry I'm a tad late on popping in to give them, but better late than never ey?

"She is half-Vulcan," S'reena replied, "and she wields a bat'leth rather well. But when you get to know her, you will know she barks, but does not bite....hard. But when you get on the wrong foot with her, beware, then she will bite." S'reena smiled a little, as she watched her old friend leave. "Now, does anyone want a drink? I am starting to get rather thirsty, and perhaps we can do with some more cake?" She looked to Michael, who instantly walked off to get her more cake. She smiled sheepishly at her company. "Don't look at me like that, I am eating for two!"
<anyone.....sorry dunno what else to add>

"Personally S'reena, I find you to be a lightweight." Everybody looked down at Ballokks, who was busily eating his way through an entire gateau. "I'd never have gotten to my age without sugar! Its an interesting piece of trivia, but those food groups that you consider bad for you, or fattening, have the opposite effect on my people. A carrot though, can be fatal. Ha ha ha!" OOC: Whoops... sorry everyone... wrong account...

Yolanda watched with curiosity the easiness of the interaction these people had.
Dr Hope brought his wife the requested drink, and cake, while Ballokks continued to happily munch on his own, and they continued to talk, involving her in the conversation as much as her lack of knowledge allowed, and encouraging her to bring her own points of view to things, but when they were talking about the last trip out they had made, Yolanda couldn't help the slight tinge of dread in her gut... she was a great engineer, she knew this, she'd studied it since she was 14 years old, she knew engines inside and out, but there were other things about being a Starfleet officer that had her worried.
Kidnapped Rear Admirals, crazy Ferengi marauders, it all sounded well crazy.
Was it a typical day in the life? Or was that just a once in a 'blue moon', to coin the old Earth phrase, occurrence.
Cmdr S'reena speaking to her brought her attention back to the conversation.
"Sorry Cmdr, I guess I was in my own little world." Yolanda apologized, wishing it was possible to kick herself at that moment.
"Thatβs fine Cadet, really, I was just asking if your looking forward to your academy tour?" the Cmdr asked.
Yolanda really wishes she could disappear then.
"Yes Ma'am." She replied hoping it sounded convincing.
"I do believe you've scared the girl with all your talkin'," Ballokks threw in with a hearty laugh.
"You might be right Mr Ballokks. I assure you cadet, it's not always like that, rarely ever have we had a Rear Admiral kidnapped from under out noses... although one did get killed once." Cmdr S'reena said.
"Killed?" Yolanda asked, eyes wide.
Cmdr S'reena laughed.
"Well not actually killed... it was all a big bluff actually, but we were led to believe that Admiral McCormick had been killed on the Hanson. As it turned out, she was of course alive and well, and watching us the whole time. Quite an interesting one that, we never even got out of space dock, but that was Under Rear Admiral KezTrek, I'm sure Captain Marcell would never fake any Admiral's deaths just to torture you." The Cmdr explained.
"No... I'd never 'fake' one." Marcell agreed with a hint of a smirk on his face.
Yolanda laughed when the others did, mainly just so she wouldn't feel completely like a fish out of water. She just hoped she'd be able to handle whatever happened on her Academy tour, she'd never be able to face Char is she didn't graduate, and she didn't want to let him, or her father down.
"Cadet Baker there is a message waiting for you on your desk terminal." Her comm badge announced unexpectedly.
Yolanda wasn't sure who'd be calling her but she was glad of the excuse to get away, these were nice people, but things were better in small doses until she could accustom herself to her new situation.
"Excuse me, Captain, Cmdr's, Doctor, I should really see to this." Yolanda said.
"Nice to meet you Cadet, I'm sure we'll see you around the Starbase." Cmdr S'reena offered.
Yolanda nodded, and conscious to walk and not run she left the mess hall, looking for the nearest turbolift.

S'reena chewed on her cake and between bites sipped from her drink. She already liked this new cadet, though she figured that the young woman needed to work on her peoples skills. "She is a shy young lady," she observed to the others, "I suspect we need to draw her out a little. She comes across as quite insecure. She wants to say things, and does say things but I see her eyes dart around. She is unsure of responses, or of what to expect. Perhaps some holodeck sparring will draw her out. I will contact her later."
She peered at her husband, then Balokks and finally Marcell. "Yes yes I know, I will take it easy!" She rolled her eyes in dismay. Being pregnant sure had its disadvantages. "If you will excuse me...I have a cadet to catch up with!"
<resp?>
She put aside her food and drink, and sped off after the cadet. "Ms Baker!" she called after the woman, "Ms Baker, a moment please! I am overdue for my holodeck battle training with Ms Drouet, would you care to join me?" She stood panting after her short sprint, knowing that she was VERY overdue for battle training.
<Baker>
ooc: Roz had an idea...I'll let her step in when she's back from LOA.

Yolanda wasn't at all expecting an invitation from the Cmdr. But as it was, she was very tired.
"Ahhh prehaps another time Cmdr... It's been a very busy day." Yoland cringed. She should have said yes, she hoped the Cmdr wouldn't be offended.
"Of course Cadet. I'll hold you too it." Cmdr S'reena said with a smile.
"Yes ma'am." Yolanda replied with a curt nod, waiting for a nod of dismissal before she went on her way.
