TJ rose from his bunk at 0800 hours, well rested and in need of some diversion. Often when he felt this way he tended to seek out his friends Barbara Johnson and Xin-Ling Chan, and the three would spend hours together, as most good friends enjoy doing.
Today, the Irishman felt like a romp in a terrestrial rural setting, and so moved to his monitor and sent his fingers racing over the pads on its keyboard. In a moment, Dr. Johnson’s face greeted him onscreen.
"Top o’ th’ mornin’ t’ ye, Doctor," TJ greeted her with a genuinely warm smile. "’Tis a wee bit antsy I’m feelin’, an’ I’m thinkin’ th’ remedy might be a fine day in the Holodecks, perhaps enjoyin’ a relaxin’ few hours in a park-like settin’.
"Are ye up for it today, me friend?"
Barbara looked a bit disappointed. She would have enjoyed it, but other things were pressing upon her.
"That sounds like it’d bring more smiles than a squirrel in a field o’ walnuts, sugah," she responded. "Unfortunately, today’s not open for me. But I’d be interested in a rain check."
"Ah, an’ more’s th’ pity ye can’t find th’ time t’ come, Doctor. Perhaps later, then?"
"I’ll keep it in mind, TJ," she answered, and the screen went blank.
Again, his fingers flew over the keyboard, and this time, an attractive Asian face filled the screen.
"Good mornin’ t’ ye, Commander. ‘Tis wonderin’ I am if ye might be available for some time in th’ Holodecks today. I’m feelin’ th’ need for some rusticatin’."
The idea of spending a few hours in the country appealed to the girl, and she nodded thoughtfully.
"I use replicator to make meal for there. We have picnic in park, right?"
"’Tis right ye are, colleen." TJ was pleased Xin-Ling was thinking along similar lines. "I’ll be meetin’ ye then in about an hour?"
"One hour fine," said the Asian. "Anyone else come?"
"I just spoke with Dr. Johnson," TJ said, shaking his head. "She’s not goin’ t’ be makin’ it. But I can put out th’ invitation t’ some o’ th’ new cadets an’ officers if ye like."
"That good." Xin-Ling affirmed. "You do that; I meet you in hour."
The Asian’s hand went forward and her face disappeared from the screen.
The Irishman pondered a bit. Who might like to come? …

Xin-Ling rose from her computer and turned her attention to the replicator. She could have just as easily prepared a picnic lunch the old-fashioned way, but one hour didn't give her enough time. Within moments, the replicator had provided her with an ample and delicious-smelling meal which she packed in a basket and took with her out the door of her quarters to meet with TJ.
It took a full twenty minutes to find her way to the holodecks, and there she found her friend. Others were merging onto the general area, and she wondered if any of them were going to join them.
"Hello, TJ," she said as she approached her friend.
But to the side, apparently showing more interest in talking to a group of three civilians, was a man who was actually focusing on the Asian warrior. Xin-Ling, more intent on the picnic and her companionship with TJ, uncharacteristically did not notice him.
Out of the corner of his eye, the man with the civilians watched – and scowled!

While walking in the corridors, she bumps into a man.
"Sorry, sir, I should be more careful. Where are you going? If you don't mind me asking." Joan says hoping not to be distrubting anything, now knowing what an earful she would get from her mom if she wasn't good. She smiles trying to look innocent, but not the look that might suggest mischeif.
"'Tis a pic nic where I be goin'. Would ya like to join us?" He says, and Joan nods knowing she could use all the new friends she could get. She realized they must be instructors, and that they were from the other training vessel, the USS Hepta. She wondered about the other vessel, and didn't know if she should ask about it. She walked with him to the holodeck in silence.

It wasn't long after Ms. McCormick and TJ had arrived at the holodeck that Xin-Ling approached them, carrying the basket she had brought from her quarters. She greeted both, and turned the science instructor.
"My name Xin-Ling Chan," she said by way of introducing herself. She held out her hand and waited for Ms. McCormick's response.

After she had responded to Xin-Ling's introduction, TJ turned to the holodeck controls and made certain that later arriving folk could enter the program that would already be in progress, hoping that Dr. Johnson might be one of them.
"Well, ladies. Shall we be goin'?"
"Computer," TJ said as the two ladies followed him in, "Run program TJ 471A."
Instantly the computer responded, providing the trio with a rustic setting.
The three looked the area over. To their right was a small, clear brook that sent the relaxing sounds of rushing water through the atmosphere, which was fresh and invigorating. Around them was a clearing surrounded by a forest, and in the distance they could see a family of deer crossing the clearing, stopping only momentarily to look in the direction of the officers to see if they presented any danger. Deciding they did not, the graceful animals completed their journey, disappearing into the woods.
Xin-Ling, thinking this an excellent place for their meal, set her basket down.
"Now, might I get ye t' be tellin' me," TJ soliloquized, "if ever you've seen a more peaceful setting than is before our eyes now?"

Meanwhile, outside the holodeck occupied by the three Starfleet officers, the man with the civilians walked stealthily to the controls, turned off the safety mechanism, and rejoined his comrades.

The walk to the holodecks is quiet even though Joan has some company now. Another woman joins Joan and Edwards when they reach the holodeck.
"My name Xin-Ling Chan,"; she said by way of introducing herself. She held out her hand and waited for Joan's response.
"Hello, again, I am Joan McCormick. I just became a science instructor for the Hanson. We met earlier though in the halls. You seemed to be in a rush, so we couldn't have a proper introduction." She says smiling at the other woman.
Edwards moves to the controls to do something.
"Well, ladies. Shall we be goin'?" Edwards says.
"Fine with me, unless Xin-Ling has a problem with it?" She says hoping not to cause any trouble. She responds, and both of them follow him in.
"Computer, run progarm TJ 471A" Instantaneously the computer responds, changing the background to a country one.
To their right was a small, clear brook that sent the relaxing sounds of rushing water through the atmosphere, which was fresh and invigorating, but made Joan nervous as all running water like that did. She hopes the other two don't see her response to the water.
"Now, might I get ye t' be tellin' me, if ever you've seen a more peaceful setting than is before our eyes now?"
"No, sir, I haven't seen anything quiet like this. I have imagined it though." She says smiling.

As Xin-Ling set down her basket and spread a cloth over the grass, she happened to glance in Joan's direction and sensed an uneasiness in her.
As she was trained to quickly study the faces and expressions of her opponents in battle situations, it was easy for her to notice her discomfort. She pondered, only for a moment, what might have caused it, then noted it had occurred when Joan had glanced at the stream beside them.
She wondered at this, but felt it to be Ms. McCormick's business, and so said nothing. She did, however, move the cloth a bit further from the stream in an attempt to calm her companion.
The Asian Warrior listened. To the babbling of the stream. To the varied sounds of the forest animals, heard but unseen. To her companions in this peaceful setting.
TJ took a deep breath, then announced, "I'm thinkin' I'll be explorin' th' area we have here. Ms. Chan...Ms. McCormick... Are ye carin' t' join me?"
"I not come just yet, TJ," said Xin-Ling. "First I want to set out meal, then I join." She turned her eyes to Joan.
"Do you want to join TJ?" she asked.
<tag: Ms. McCormick>
As TJ led the way into the forest, Xin-Ling finished unpacking the meal and setting it on the cloth. The sweet, blended aromas of poultry, fish, breads, and other culinary fare mingled with the fresh woodland air.
"Make certain you not stay too long. We eat, then I join," Xin-Ling called after the officers exiting the clearing and moving into the woods. She knew she had to watch over the food. They did not come to feed the bears.
Xin-Ling noticed a pair of yellow eyes staring from the cover of the bushes around the clearing. Briefly, she felt the urge to call out a warning to TJ and Ms. McCormick. The safety mechanism, however, had been set as they entered, and her worries vanished as she recalled TJ's caution with the safety settings as they had stepped into the holodeck.

Joan noticed the other woman move the blanket back, and wondered if she knew of Joan's fear.
Joan wasn't sure about that. She didn't really know either of them, and wondered whether she should go or stay. She did want to talk to Xin-Ling about moving the blanket, but she also wanted to explore. Well there is no harm in exploring now, and I will talk to her about it later. She thought.
"I would like to explore the area." She says and heads off with TJ. She felt like someone was watching her again, like her orphanage days when she always was under constant watch. Sure she wasn't like other children, but that hadn't been necessary. She realizes there must be some reason she feels this way.
"TJ, I have this funny feeling that someone is..." She starts, but is cut off quickly by a group of people rushing at them. Her instict takes over, and she is ready to fight.

This should not be happening! thought TJ. 'Tis certain I am I set th' safeties before enterin'!
The intentions of those rushing toward them were all too clear, and by NO means friendly.
"Be prepared t' defend yourself, Ms. McCormick," he said. "Phasers on stun at wide range."
As he said this, he reached for his sidearm, and – nothing was there! Glancing quickly to his companion, he noticed she also was unarmed.
Well! If this was to be a brawl, then he would fight like the Irishman he was! Still, he could not help wishing Xin-Ling was with them to face these assailants, but they had at least twenty to thirty minute's distance between them, and she very likely had no inclination of the danger they were now facing.

She knew all along her phaser was missing, and thought this would be a wonderful idea to show how she could fight. She felt this sudden nag about the safeties, and wondered if this was simulated. She then hears TJ telling her to use her phaser, and that nagging becomes loud as if it is shouting at her. She prepares for a real fight, thinking the safeties are off. She doesn't know why, but she feels she ought to tell TJ about this feeling; unfortunately she doesn't get the chance as they are rushed.
The first comes at her with a knife, and then she realizes this is still the holodeck.
"Computer give me a light saber." She says as one appears in her hand. She hit the button, and just in time too. One of them gets out their phaser and starts shooting, she uses the saber to block all of them, wondering how she knew just how to use this weapon as she had never had it in her hand before. She continues to use it, and it feels really good in her hands. She notices a second button and pushes it, revealing she has a two sided saber! She starts to cut down the offense, and wonders how Xin-Ling is making out with them. She sees TJ is holding his own, and continues to fight off hers.

In the midst of the attack, TJ hadn't heard Joan's request for a light sabre, and so wondered why only one of the assailants concentrated on him as he and Joan stood back to back to avoid the difficulties of being surrounded.
As the assailant who was attacking TJ lunged, he raised his blade.
Being a former CTSO, TJ was able to maneuver his arm behind the weapon-holding hand of his opponent, then bring his hand back to grab the man's wrist. Pushing his lower arm forward, he threw the man onto his back, quickly straddled him, and delivered a chop between his adam's apple and chin, leaving the man conscious, but choking for breath, before he turned his attention to another and saw them all concentrating on Joan. It was at this time he also saw that she had called up a weapon.
"Computer!" he called. "Give me a Roman short sword!" and within seconds, it was in his grasp.
"Now, me fine gossams," he cried with a scowl, "have at ye!"
With that, he jumped into the fray.

Xin-Ling was not so far away she couldn't hear the sounds of the battle off in the distance.
Quickly making the decision her friends' safety was of greater importance than the picnic (!), she rose to her feet and quickly took off in a run toward the battle sounds.
Would she get there quickly enough?

Knowing being back to back would help, another man takes out a phaser and starts to shoot at her. She blocks every shoot and sends them at several of the enemy surrounding them. The man with the phaser doesn't look happy.
"Computer, take away all weapons except TJ's and mine." She says as all the weapsons disappear. "Now computer lock all non Star Fleet personnel out of weapons use on the holodeck... Gamma Beta five six one point three." Joan says, saying the code barely above a whisper, using a code she had built somehow. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she was sure to figure it out sooner or later.
She noticed Xin-Ling coming over the horizon. Well the calvary has finally arrived. She thinks hoping no one can read her thoughts.

(OOC Anyone mind if I add to the mayhem? ;D)
YrDis was sitting in his quarters reviewing crew readiness reports aboard the Hanson, which was docked at Starbase Conqueror. He had been doing this for several hours. Before that, he had read the latest psychological research journal provided by Starfleet and before that he had been completing his report on the Hanson's latest mission. He shifted in his chair, then stopped reading and tossed the PADD aside wearily. To be perfectly blunt, he thought to himself, my butt is sore. YrDis turned and looked at the chrono. He had been at this for almost six hours.
The counsellor stood up and walked over to the replicator, intent on getting something to eat, then stopped. He knew what his real problem was, he had been inside the ship too long. He had seen his own service record and knew that it had been noted that he worked overly long hours on several occasions. Upon that realization, he knew there was going to be no more work for him today. Unfortunately, that meant he was going to have to find something else to do.
YrDis wandered around his quarters until his gaze fell on a holocube. It was a message that had been sent to him by friends from Ornara, his homeworld. Smiling slightly, he picked it up and viewed the contents. A group of his friends had gone to the Mitnil Mountains for a week, and sent him some of the highlights, mostly shots of the open country with the mountains rising steeply in the background.
He set the holocube aside and looked around his quarters. He hadn't been off the ship in weeks. Time to change that. YrDis decided to take advantage of the advanced holorooms available aboard the Starbase. They were much larger and more complex than anything available aboard ship.
20 minutes later, he was standing in front of a bank of holodeck doors. They looked to be occupied, but the counsellor was reviewing each one. This one looks promising, he thought to himself. Program TJ 471A. He reviewed the program. Open air, mountains, forests and there was an invitation that anyone could enter. There were already three people inside.
YrDis tapped the access code, but the door refused to open. Frowning, YrDis tried it again, then again. Nothing. He was just raising his hand to touch his badge when he was tapped on the shoulders. Slightly surprised, he turned to see a large man standing behind him. There were three more standing nearby. They all didn't look very friendly.
"Excuse me, but what are you doing?" the man asked.
Not friendly at all, YrDis thought to himself. "I was trying to get into this holodeck, but the door is jammed. I was about to call maintenance."
"We're from maintenance. We're just waiting for a diagnostic team" the man declared.
"Really" YrDis replied. "I take it they're bringing your tools and uniforms as well?"
The mans' eyes shifted and YrDis knew that he was lying and something unusual was going on. Unexpectedly, man grabbed the lapels of YrDis' uniform, and two of the others seized his arms. The third rushed to the door controls and typed in a code. The doors opened and the three of them unceremoniously dumped YrDis into the holodeck. Before he could get back up, the doors closed.
From behind him, YrDis could hear the sound of combat. Turning, he saw a male and female officer fighting off a number of assailants. A female officer was nearly into the fight. The two already involved were armed with what looked like swords. As he watched, three assailants rushed the man simultaneously. He managed to stab one with his sword, but the other two penetrated his defence. One grabbed the man's sword arm, while the second delivered an impressive series of three punches to the face. The officer staggered backwards, nose and mouth bleeding. YrDis realized that the safety interlocks must be off and that this was getting pretty serious.
"Computer, Ornaran combat knives" YrDis ordered, and two ornate 30 inch knives appeared in his hands. Silently, YrDis jumped into the fray.

The enemy just keeps coming, even though Joan and TJ try to defeat them. TJ seems to be doing well, and the enemy no longer has any weapons, so that makes it easier. Some see this and start to run, but Xin-Ling and another man Joan Y'rdis come to attack as well stopping the few that were running away. She smiles and finds the saber has a very good feel to it. She wonders how exactly she knew how to use this weapon, as she has never even heard of it before now, and why did she call for it?

As Xin-Ling sees the remaining assailants flee, she calls out to them.
"Stop where you are!" They, of course, continue fleeing.
In response to their disobedience, the Asian Warrior's forearm flies from her side to directly in front of her with such swiftness the few watching are not able to follow it, and those near her hear a whoosh! as her missle of death speeds on its course, and the assailant furthest away falls in his tracks, a victim of Xin-Ling's dart. He was fortunate – she had not been aiming to strike any vital organs, as she wanted to question him.
YrDis began rounding up the other assailants, taking them into custody.

"So does this mean we will see you too aboard?" Joan asks smiling.

"Not for myself, not for TJ," Xin-Ling answered. She exchanged a glace with the Irishman.
"We both have duty that keep us here on Conqueror while you gone."
