OFF: I apologize for the tardiness of this post; I became ill this weekend and have not been online.
-- Captain's Ready Room --
Captain ONE sat at his desk reviewing the details of the upcoming training mission. It looked pretty routine, and the cadets should be fine. He was sure that it would all be second nature to the senior staff.
The door beeped. "Enter."
In came the familiar face of Commander 1st Class TJ Edwards, his First Officer. "All th' cadets 'ave reported in now sir, an' all the instructors save one."
"Good. The briefing will be in one half-hour."
"Aye sir, will that be all then sir?"
"Yes, that is all. Dismissed."
-- Briefing Room, 30 minutes later --
Commander Chan had been left in charge of the bridge while the senior staff and cadets filled the briefing room. When everyone had arrived and been seated, Captain ONE rose. "Welcome to all the cadets, I am sure you will learn a lot from this mission, and I am sure your instructors will also learn from you. Now, on to the details of your mission.
We will be investigating a star in Sector 46 that is on the verge of collapse. The Federation Science Council has determined that this star may go Supernova within 10 days. We will proceed directly to the star and observe from a distance. I expect the star and its surroundings to be monitored constantly. While we are near the star, the ship will remain on Yellow Alert.
Any questions?

*as jessica hadn't needed much time to get settled in she was one of the first few to make it to the meeting as she seated the rest slowly started to make their way in, after everyone made their way in, Captain one took his seat and begin the meeting
she waited till he was done speaking and was one of the first to speak up
Is their any inhabited planets near the star we should be aware of?she waited for his response

:: Dr. Johnson rests back in her seat, listening to the Captains words and the questions of the Cadets. She just loves listening to ONE talk, hes nearly impenetrable in manner. Hmmm. She hasnt done a study on him in a while so may have to do that soon. The Borg have always facinated her. Once she hears the mission she grins:: Sure does sound like fun ta me Cappy. ::beeing quiet so that the Cadets may ask their questions.::
::She looks at the Cadets scattered around and her eyes fix momentarily on Cadet Giga, the android. His type are equally as facinating as the Borg, only in a different way. She makes a mark on the padd she brought with her, noting that she must speak to this Cadet. She dosent have any cadets under her for training this time around, so she will merely be doing her job but thats no problem.::
::This way she can concentrate on the "class" as a whole and make sure all of them are on an even keel...as it were::

Giga entered the briefing room and sat down rather awkwardly. He wasnt used to sitting - it wasnt in his nature to need to sit down.
Giga was fascinated by this mission. Studying a star about to go Super Nova was indeed an interesting mission. Of course he had most of the Federations as well as other notes on Stars e.t.c. in his main memory core but he would be able to examine this first hand.
Simply fascinating.
The Captain asked.
Giga raised his arm and spoke. He believed this to be the proper etiquette but he wasnt quite sure.
"Sector 46 is relatively unexplored is not?" Giga asked. "I have relatively little information on it on file."
<TAG One>
"That would be why. Secondly would it not be wise to send in probes first. As we have only an estimated time relating to the Super Nova. A type 4b probe should withstand the temperature and allow us to collect valuable info on the Star." Giga said.
<TAG One>
Giga nodded. "I will get right to it." Giga said.
He looked around the briefing room and noticed a homo-sapien female looking at him. He had experienced this many times all ready, he assumed it was because androids of his kind werent all that common. He would like to talk to her at a later date.

The Captain had finished his briefing to the officers and new cadets about the particulars of the mission. TJ remained silent, preferring to let others speak. That way he could get some perception as to the cadets assigned to this mission. Officially, this was Dr. Johnson's job, being the ship's counselor, but he was curious by nature.
Good! thought TJ. 'Tis a concern for alien life forms she's displayin'.
ONE answered her question, and then another cadet, android by appearance, spoke.
Sure, an' 'tis an analytical mind I'm seein' in this one, TJ thought.
It wasn't long before Captain ONE had cleared the questions of the cadets and wrapped up the briefing, after which TJ headed once again for the Bridge.
Scant moments after leaving the Briefing Room, the door of the Bridge whooshed open. TJ stepped into the command area and took his seat on the right hand of the captain's chair.
The Irishman grinned in anticipation, and a twinkle danced in his eyes. It might be true that the assignment for this training cruise was routine, but it would definitely sharpen the skills of the cadets, and TJ expected them all to graduate as fine new officers of Starfleet. Now, with the captain giving the order, the Hepta was soon to move out of the starbase toward new adventure.
Commander Chan was standing near Cadet Jack Williams, who was currently sitting at the helm, going over the console and being certain the cadet was prepared for this first-time experience.

"Here, here, then finally, there. After that, it simple. Just matter of steering out of dock," said the petite Asian warrior to Cadet Williams, thus finishing her instruction. He had asked her for a quick review with a minor question of the order of pressing the pads.
As she finished, she heard the door of the Bridge open, and someone make his way to the command area of the Bridge. Turning her head, she saw it was her friend Commander Edwards.
Since the cadet's question had been answered, she turned to the First Officer and saluted.
"Ah, you back, sir. Commander, I ready to reliquish command to you until arrival of Captain."
"No," answered the Irishman from the First Officer's chair. "'Tis you Captain ONE left in charge, an' 'tis th' captain that'll be relievin' ye o' that responsibility. Carry on as you're doin'."
"Yes, sir," replied Xin-Ling.

James entered the Bridge and sat behind his console. studying a star that was about to go supernova was certainly a good way too sharpen the Cadets. It needed interaction from all departments and would create a team spirit at the same time. He couldn't wait to leave space dock.
This post is just to let you all know I'm still here. It's necessarily very brief as I feel a migraine coming up. I'll shut down my PC now and see if I can do something else before it gets worse.

::The Redheaded Shrink walks smilingly out of the meeting. Wow. Shes surely never seen a supernova. She better get pictures of this one!! Ya just dun run across them all that often.::
::This time around she dosent have any personal students. This leaves her pretty much free to take care of protocol, emergencies, and observance. One of her favorite things with new students is to observe them in action. Though at times her presence can be a distraction, so shes often seen almost dissappearing from an area of the ship entirely, ending up somewhere else where she will not distract, and can still observe, and offer insights::
::Today, being the first day she heads on down to her office off of sickbay. But really shes beggining to think her office would go better in her quarters. Patients always react better to a personal surrounding than a clinical one. Tends to put people at ease. But thats to think about for the next mission. For THIS time around shes got her office. Barbara drops in and uplinks into her padd, loading in the new crewman dossiers. All new officers and cadets aboard load in, and also those already known. Such as Captain ONE. Commander Edwards, Dr. Jordan. Though today she dosent bother the good Doctor...now she heads back out, looking for a turbolift to the bridge::
::She chats quietly with a tall blue guy and a cute Ensign named "Rosh". The blue guy shes met, Ensign Rosh, she hasnt. The turbolift takes her quickly so there isnt much time for more than Hellos and Im so and sos before shes waving and out of the lift again, heading through the corridor and into the wooshing doors of the ships bridge. She loves comming here though really, theres little use for her in such a place. Command decisions and battle tactics, diplomacy and politics happen here as well as countless little technical miracles. But in any case she wishes to observe the Cadets getting for their first time out.::
::She dosent shout "Hey YALL!!", and thank goodness cause that woulda been rilly bad. She walks over to his Commanderness and speaks quietly as to not disturb anything currently in progress:: Hey Commander. You mind if i hang around for a lil while? Wanna get a bead on these here new recruits.

"Hey, Commander. You mind if i hang around for a li'l while? Wanna get a bead on these here new recruits. TJ looked straight to Dr. Johnson and nodded. She was a valued member of the crew, and when she wanted to observe, it often developed that what she had observed proved highly useful down the road. Indeed, she was welcome on the Bridge.

As Dr. Johnson took her position as observer, there were two beeps on the Bridge, both from comm badges. Cadet Williams answered his, and found the person on the other end of the transmission was Trenia Torban, the USS Hepta's Chief Navigation Officer, who was calling him to another part of the ship.
No sooner had Xin-Ling released him and had begun looking around for another person to fill the seat than the second call came, this one from Mr. Parker, the Chief Tactical and Security Officer, calling her to his office to discuss the new procedures for ship security.
Xin-Ling acknowledged the order and signed off.
"It look now like I must turn over control of Bridge to you, sir," she said.
TJ nodded, and Xin-Ling headed to the turbo-lift to leave the Bridge. As she did so, a young cadet entered, took a quick look around, and prepared to report in.

Jordan reluctantly came up to the deck and listened to their mission for this time around. She had never seen a supernova before and hoped that she wouldn't get blinded when it happened. She kept an eye on Commander Parker who practically ran from the room when the meeting was over saying something about needing to speak with Xin-Ling. I will get ya down to sickbay before we return to starbase, [/i] she thought to herself angrily. Draco found her anger amusing. Jordan just looked at Draco as the turbolift sped back down to sickbay.
Jordan: Why does it seem that every man on this ship doesn't like me and seems to avoid me at all costs?
Draco gave her what he thought might be the answer and Jordan had a realization that he probably was right. The lift came to a stop and she stepped off. She walked into sickbay and started doing checks on the systems to make sure that everything was running as it should be. She glanced at the console that on the last mission had blown up and shattered her leg. Even though the leg was completely healed now, she could still remember the blinding flash, flying through the air, and feeling a blinding pain in her leg then losing consciousness. A nurse approached her and gently touched Jordan's arm.
Nurse: Commander? You ok?
Jordan came out of her daydream and looked at the nurse. She smiled an nodded.
Jordan: I'm fine.
Though I will be making a few changes in myself over this mission,[/i] she thought as she went back to her scans.

ONE was slightly annoyed by the Commander's lack of proper grammar, but it was a good question. "No. This star has a gas giant, an outlaying asteroid belt, and a few comets, but no life. The nearest inhabited planet is 5.3 light-years from it in a neighboring system."
ONE was glad that one of the cadets was willing to ask a question. Too often they were shy, afraid to ask questions of the senior officers, especially the Borg captain.
That is correct. What I've told you is all we know about the system. Until recently, Starfleet had little interest in this system. "
This cadet was sharp. He would be a valuable asset to the mission. "That would be fine. We are still going to observe it directly ourselves, but go ahead and deploy a probe as well."

After the briefing, all but the captain left and went about their work. ONE stood at the window and looked at the starbase. He hit his combadge. "ONE to the Bridge. Take us out of spacedock." He watched as the ship slowly accelerated away from the starbase. He gazed at the stars, unable to shake a faint sense of foreboding about this mission. Not the kind that made him want to be more cautious, though, but the kind of foreboding that made him all the more excited to see what was in store for them.
The captain entered the bridge, still lost in his thoughts, in his senses, and in his ever-evolving emotions. As if on autopilot from being a captain so long, he took his seat in the center. "Lay in a course for sector 46, warp 8. Engage."

Giga left the Briefing room and took his place behind the Science console. He was only vaguely familiar with the controls on a Galaxy class and wondered how they would differ on a Galaxy II class.
As he stood by the console the Captains voice came over the intercomm and the ship was ordered to Sector 46.
Giga began to run routine scans of the space they were passing through while at the same time programming a type 4b probe to gather the information they wanted.
After the probes schematics had been succesfully made up Luke took the padd to Commander Edwards and briefed him on what he thought would be a good way to go about things.
"Would it be possible for me to go to Science lab 2 to make the necessary modifications to three probes?" Giga asked.
<TAG Commander Edwards>
"Thank you Commander. I will inform you of my progress reguary. It should take me longer than one hour to complete the upgrades." Giga replied.
With a nod from the Commander Giga left the bridge and headed towards the Science lab.

After the staff briefing Lydia followed Commander Stephens back down to engineering. As they entered main engineering the Hepta was just getting underway. It wouldn't be long before they would jump to warp, and there was just enough time to perform a few final checks.
The Trill cadet began running a few routine diagnostics and thinking over the meeting. The mission sounded simple enough, from an engineering perspective the majority of the work would be keeping the shields and the science department's equipment powered and running. She hadn't had anything to say during the meeting, but it left her wondering if, when the time came, she would have the courage to speak up in a room full of superiors. 'The first senior staff meeting is probably a daunting experience for anyone,' she thought.
"Hm. Commander Stephens," Lyds called across the room.
"What's up cadet?"
"One of the antimatter injectors in the port nacelle system is slightly out of alignment, the warp coils are only running at 87%," she reported.
"Ok, lets take a look at it when we drop out of warp. For now keep an eye on it," the chief engineer instructed.
"Aye sir." It felt odd to call a woman sir, but that was the way the Academy taught, and the way Lydia thought best to address her seniors. Until, that is, someone requested otherwise.

"Would it be possible for me to go to Science lab 2 to make the necessary modifications to three probes?" Good idea, thought TJ with a ghost of a smile curling his lips, so slight that the combination of the twinkle in his eyes with it was uncharacteristically absent. He looked around and saw Lt. JG Forbes, another member of Mr. Penfold's "science club" on the Bridge.
"You may proceed t' do so, cadet," the Irishman said. "Just return t' your station here as soon as you're done."
As soon as Giga was out of his seat, he said, "Mr. Forbes, please fill in for Mr. Giga while he works on the probes."

Her meeting with Mr. Parker approaching an end, she was told to select a cadet and return to the Bridge, placing him or her on the Tactical console.
Xin-Ling consulted the departmental cadet roster on Mr. Parker's desk, and asked, "How about I go to Bridge with this one?" Mr. Parker looked at whom she was indicating on the roster and nodded, as, coincidentally, the cadet in question – O'Neill – stepped into the Tactical/Security Office and introduced himself.
<<Cadet O'Neill>>
Xin-Ling stood to her feet as she addressed the cadet.
"Cadet, please come with me to Bridge. We want you on Tactical Station.

Giga arrived at Science lab 2 and began work on modifying the three probes.
He decided that he would encase each of them in a torpedo shell, thus avoiding damage by the intense heat. He then added four cameras to each, allowing not only sensor data to be gathered but visual as well.
With this done he added the finishing touches by activating a level 2 security encryption code on the probe. If this probe were to be recovered by an unfriendly species then there was only a 0.00005 chance that they may decrypt the code.
With the probes stored safely, Giga left the Science lab and headed back to the bridge. He entered the turbolift and it effeciently sped him off to his destination.
Giga stepped out of the turbolift and signalled to the Lt. who was at his station that he was ready to resume his post.
Giga began to run sensor scans of all the decks, familiarising himself with the controls, when a sensor 'ghost' appeared.
It was on the bridge.
Giga focussed in and found it to be on the left of the Captains chair.
With his enhanced vision Giga's eyesight zoomed in on the 'ghost's' position but saw nothing. He checked the sensors again but nothing was there.
Giga assumed it was a computer malfunction and continued with his scans.

Once the android had left Science Lab 2, a small figure emerged from the adjacent office. Unbeknownst to Cadet Giga, Cmdr Penfold had been silently watching the modification of the probes and was impressed. Department policy wouldn't allow him to launch such important (and expensive) hardware without a proper check-over though, so giving his clearance code he accessed the modified probes and proceeded to open them up.
Inside was a mass of optronic circuitry and sensor nodules that to a layperson would look like one hell of an anti-climax. There were no flashing lights, no big red buttons and only a couple of small data display panels. Penfold always felt that scientific equipment these days needed more big red buttons - especially ones that said "Do Not Push"; they were the best kind but seemed to be sadly missing. He followed the circuitry carefully with a small furry finger, double checked the relay connections and tested the responses of the sensor nodules themselves. Everything seemed in perfect working order. Not only that, Cadet Giga seemed to have quite a knack for laying out his components in a logical and organised way. Even more impressed, Penfold decided that he should probably visit the bridge and make sure that everything was being conducted properly. He reinitiated the level-2 security encryption and returned the probes to storage.
Arriving on the bridge, Penfold was greeted by the usual hum of activity that signified a crew eager to begin a new mission and a class of cadets eager to prove themselves. He noticed cadet Giga at the science station, but since he seemed to be busy Penfold decided to talk to Mr Forbes first. "Lieutenant," the CScO said in his strange little accent, "any problems so far?" Forbes looked up from his console with a mildly surprised but pleased expression. "Commander, I was hoping you'd made it on board. I haven't seen you at all since we left Conqueror. How was your trip home?" "It was... not as much fun as I'd hoped," replied Penfold cryptically. He clearly didnt want to talk about it though, so Forbes decided to get back to the Cmdr's question. "We haven't had any problems so far - everything's behaving very well," he smiled. " Mr Giga's been in charge of the science station for most of the journey - he's getting himself acquainted with the ship's systems. "Well it's always good to see a cadet with dedication to duty. He made a marvelous job of the modified probes. Let's see how he handles sensor data." With a parting wink, Penfold bade goodbye to Forbes and approached the science station.
"So cadet, what did you think of the briefing?" At just over 6 feet tall, Giga towered above the 4ft 6in Science Instructor.
<<TAG Giga>>
"Has anything interesting happened since we launched? Anything unusual on sensors?" Giga debated whether or not to mention the ghost on internal sensors, since he was sure the Cmdr meant external sensors. Then again, he hadn't specified...

Giga was still working at the console when someone he recognized as Commander Penfold approached. He quickly accessed the Commanders service record in his posytronic net. Interesting, he had accessed the most relevant pieces of information: Species: Draylok Place of Birth: Glypthong He had never encountered a Draylok before and the planet Glypthong was new to him. He would research it in more detail at a later date.
Giga looked down at his instructor, unaware of how foolish this may of looked.
"It was certainly interesting and Captain One is obviously well suited for Command." Giga replied.
Giga decided that he would tell Penfold. The Commander had not specified which sensors however it was not in his programming to hide information.
Giga explained to the Commander about the sensor ghost that had appeared next to the Captains chair, but then it promptly dissapeared.

Intrigued, Penfold absent-mindedly scratched the back of his hand, as was his wont when he was pondering. "How many times have you seen this sensor ghost?" "Just the once, sir. It lasted only momentarily." "Well, continue to monitor the ship for any other such anomalies. Meanwhile, run a level-3 diagnostic on the internal sensor network and inform me of anything else unusual. It was probably just a miscalibration in the resolution matrices, but it's worth keeping an eye on." Penfold looked up at the android and smiled. "You're doing a good job cadet. Keep it up!"

Running routine diagnostics on all systems, Cadet Odell had already found nothing wrong with the weapons, impulse and power relay systems. Finally she got a hit on, of all things, the diagnostics systems.
The readout showed a diagnostic in progress on the bridge so, having nothing better to do, Lydia figured she might as well offer a hand. A slightly more detailed look revealed that the diagnosis was being run by Cadet Giga, from the science station.
=/\=Engineering to the bridge, can I be of any help Giga?=/\=
=/\=Cadet Odell, I detected a sensor ghost up here on the bridge. I am now running diagnostics on the sensor systems to check it is not a glitch,=/\= came the reply.
=/\=If we pool our departmental resources we can get it done quicker,=/\= Lyd offered.
=/\=Agreed. If we can rule out a glitch in the sensor systems this will become a serious investigation. Your help would be useful.=/\=
Lydia left engineering and started at a jog up towards the bridge, to work from the engineering station there. She hadn't really met the other cadets yet and Giga intruiged her particularly, being an android. Working with him could be interesting.

Cadet Odell strolled onto the bridge, her cheeks slightly flushed.
Giga's eyes picked up a slight increase in pulse rate also, she had moved quickly. To get from engineering to the bridge in 2.34.834243 minutes was excellent for a biological creature.
Giga nodded towards his fellow Cadet and montioned for her to come over. He should her his sensor data.
"Interesting." She said.
The console bleeped signalling the end of the level 3 diagnostic of external and internal sensors.
Giga quickly analysed the results.
"There is nothing wrong with the sensors." He said. "It appears we have something interesting on our hands."

Penfold leaned back in his chair as he attempted to digest the information presented to him. Cadet Giga stood patiently, having refused the offer of a seat, and waited for a response. He noticed that the office around him was quite disorderly, but he was sure the Cmdr must have had some kind of system, however erratic it may seem.
"And there's no way it can be a technical malfuntion?" asked Penfold hopefully. "Cadet Odell assisted me with my analysis of the situation. We've explored every possible point of error and eliminated them all." Penfold frowned, then sat up. "Very well. I'll need to inform the Captain at once. In the mean time, I'd like you and Ms Odell to make sure that we're ready to begin observations of the stellar event. I don't want any last minute malfunctions, so make sure you check all systems thoroughly. Also, keep a close eye on internal sensors. Log the apparent motion of these sensor ghosts and see if you can infer anything that might be of use. If you do find anything interesting, please inform either myself, Commander Edwards or the Captain before taking further action."
At this point, he was interrupted by the voice of the First Officer. =/\= Edwards t' Science. We're approachin' sector 46. Ye might be wantin' t' join us up here =/\= "Acknowledged Commander," Penfold replied. "That's your cue, cadet. Take the science station on the bridge; I'll be up to join you shortly." "Aye, sir," the cadet replied obediently, and promptly left the room.
The Chief Science Officer's expression became vacant and his eyes glazed over as he watched the doors close behind Giga. His mind began slowly to wander down obscure paths known only to his subconscious. Here he was about to witness the most exciting event in stellar astrophysics and he couldn't concentrate properly on the task at hand. After a few minutes of unintentional reflection, he snapped to and realised he had to talk to Captain ONE. Tempting as it was to use the comm panel on his desk, he decided this kind of conversation had to be done in person.
