S’reena paused again. "But I don't need you telling me you can or cannot imagine what I am going through or have gone through. Do you have a family, doctor? Wife? children? Do you know what it is like, to be actively shunned?"
“Yes Commander … I do have family, however I do not have a wife nor children. Do I know what it is like to be shunned? … I’m sure our experiences will not equal, however my family didn’t want me to leave and they really didn’t want me to join Starfleet. I still talk to my family … but they still haven’t forgiven me for leaving. … And I can say that it hurts … you see Commander … with my people … you ALWAYS know what the other is thinking. What humans say in their minds actually gets said with Bataziod people; nothing is left unspoken.” John was getting a bit frustrated with the Commander by this point, every thing leads in circles with her he thought; just let go he wanted to say.
Letting the moment pass John added, “about the water fall … it isn’t big … it really isn’t real. It is kind of like a mini-holodeck … type device. I found it on shore leave in the Sol system.”
“Commander, would you like to stay for some tea?” John asked.

S'reena turned sharply, wincing slightly as she did so. "Tea?" she asked, looking quite surprised. Nobody had, ever, asked her to stay for tea. Though, she didn't quite understand the term tea either, it sometimes seemed to mean something entirely else. "Do please define tea," she asked, smiling slyly.
She walked over to a corner. "If your waterfall is small, it might just fit here," she answered, "and I'm relieved to hear that it is small and not entirely real. Though, I suspect one can drown in holographic water just as well."
The Romulan officer walked over to the nearest chair and motioned at it. "Do you mind?" she querried, as she sat down nonetheless. "Ah, much better," she sighed, "feels good to be off my feet for a while." She looked back up at the counselor. "I'm sure you can sense how I feel talking about the past," she said softly, "and then you'll probably also be able to sense that you'll have to give me time....unless ofcourse you can lure me into talking about it."
She grinned up at him. "Yrdis certainly managed it at times. And, if you contact him he'll probably also tell you that I've smashed his office once, and even gave him a nice shiner as well. I do really regret that happening, and I'm not entirely sure I remember what exactly caused it."

John was hearing the Commander out, waiting for the time to step back in with his comments … but decided against that thought. He would just let everything stay here for now. “Well, Commander, please do … take a load off those tired feet of yours.” Trying not to just blurt out laughing while saying that, John continued, “by tea I mean something to drink; I like Earth tea myself.
“What would you like to drink,” John asked?
“Tea is fine with me Counselor … Ceylon Tea,” S’reena answered.
John had to look for the replicator in his new office; S’reena snickered and pointed in the direction of the device. John put on a half-grin and walked over to the replicator.
“Is there any special way you like your Ceylon Tea Commander,” John asked?
“Ceylon Tea… hot, black, two sugar …” S’reena said back past John to the replicator.
As the drink began to materialize John added, “Uh … yes … Mr. Replicator … Earl Gray Tea, Hot, with sugar,” jokingly to the non-sentient device. He didn’t see S’reena roll her eyes but felt the gesture just the same.
With both the officers sitting together, they talked about the ship, the crew and talked about crew reviews that they would do together. Stories were told from both of them, half stories really; after all this was just conversation. As time went on, John asked the one question that S’reena wanted to avoid, “I understand that something happened on the last mission … was it the cause of my shiner you gave me back on the star base?”

Noah just sat in Starburst for a while, mentally beat himself up over the argument that had just taken place. He was kind of glad that Drew had taken the suggestion, as he prefered to be alone at present.
After a little while, he decided he needed to find S'reena. He rolled out of Starburst, and toward the nearest wall panel. "Computer, is Commander S'reena Hope onboard Starbase Conquerer?"
"Negative," was the reply.
"Is Commander John Graxen?"
"Negative," came the reply again.
He concluded that both must be on Hanson, and headed over to the ship. Once there, he said, "Computer, locate Commanders Hope and Graxen."
"Commanders Hope and Graxen are in the Counselor's Office."
He headed there, and pressed the key. Graxen came to the door. "Hello Counselor," Bates said, "I wished to talk to you and Commander Hope. May I come in?"
Graxen nodded, and bade him enter. He went over to S'reena, whom he noticed had now abandoned her chair. "Commander Hope," he began, "I'm sorry for what happened in Starburst. My original comment was meant as a joke, but then my pride and stubborness took over. I'm sorry." He looked down, then back up, hoping she would forgive him.

S'reena had just been considering the question Graxen had asked her, as well as being halfway to sipping her hot tea when Bates wheeled in. She pretended not to see him, until he came face to face with her and she was forced to acknowledge his presence.
"Perhaps next time you will think before you say something," she said coolly, then sipped her tea and leaned back. She considered his words carefully now, and began to see that perhaps he had meant it as a joke. "And perhaps make it more clear that you are indeed joking?" she continued, raising an eyebrow at him questioningly.
"Counselor, perhaps the commander would also like a cup of tea?" she then asked, looking past Bates at Graxen. Then she settled her gaze back on Bates. "It won't be easy to forget the snide comments you made," she said softly, "but I can try."
She sipped her tea again. "Counselor to answer your question. Yes something did happen. Commander Bates was forced to work in engineering on his own, and I was rather forced to pretend I had joined the Romulans. I suppose that put the basis of strife between us. I'm not certain though, I believe I did everything I could to let him know I hadn't actually joined them, without betraying myself to the Romulans. And he mentioned I was pregnant, even before Jason could have a look at me. I don't remember much of what happened after that. Perhaps the commander could fill you in on that."
S'reena didn't like talking about the ordeal they had gone through when Romulans had hijacked the Hanson, and she certainly didn't like talking about how some crewmembers regarded her now, even more so after the false accusations made by Starfleet Command. It had been thanks to Admiral McCormick that she'd been cleared of all charges.

Listing to the two have pseudo conversation was hard. John always liked for people to have the aggression worked out by using other non-lethal methods first … before sitting in his office. He also was going to stay far away from either of their fists. S’reena asked if Bates would like to be offered some tea and John responded, “Yes, Commander Bates would you like something to drink?” Bates accepted and got the Commander his request from the replicator.
John returned to his chair as S’reena was telling her, no doubt, abridged story. He felt her frustration of the whole story start to replay in her. He also felt Noah’s thoughts change from regret more towards what was felt back in the Star Burst. John changed his position in his chair from a relaxed poster … to sitting up on the edge to covey concern about where this talk was heading.
S’reena finished with her statement, “Perhaps the Commander could fill you in on that,” talking about Commander Bates.
John didn’t know if Bates would add to or just escalate the moment, but he felt as if he should interject something first … “Before you do Commander Bates,” now looking at S’reena too, “let us not forget how easy it is to get caught up in the moment.”

While Admiral Drew's scan was underway, Jason took the liberty of looking up Drew's medical record, to see if there was anything he needed to be looking for.
Oddly enough, there was no significant injury noted in his record. Drew appeared to be one of those rare people that seemingly escaped injury.
He looked up, and a Cadet was entering Sickbay. As he saw Jason and Admiral Drew, he straightened. "Cadet Matthew Edison, reporting for duty, sir," he said, evidently addressing Drew.
But Jason jumped in anyway. "Welcome to the Hanson, Cadet, and Sickbay. I am Doctor Jason Black, Chief Medical Officer."

"Don't worry, Counselor. There would be a repeat of what happened in the Starburst," he said, looking at S'reena as he finished, hoping he seemed sincere.
"In fact, just to be sure," he reached down and pulled the control PADD from his chair. He pressed a key, locking the wheels. "That will keep me from moving."
He sighed, then began. "One of things you learn as an Engineer is to never assume anything. Which includes never assume what you see is what's actually true. I couldn't entirely trust Commander Hope during the mission, as she was, for the Romulans' benefit, appearing to be on their side. But then, I guess I assumed that if she was on my side, she'd be helping me more. I'm contradicting my own reason, but that goes to show the effects the mental stress was having on my judgement. Afterwards I was somewhat uninvolved in the events of the mission. The children of both Commanders Hope and Savali were suddenly dropped in my lap, literally with 2 of them, and I was asked to be their caretaker. With that, I whisked them into my Office and took care of them from there, and did my best to keep them calm."
He sighed, then looked S'reena directly in the eye. "I am sorry for what I said in the Starburst. The frustration and tension from that mission all came flooding back, and because you were even remotely connected with its source, I directed it at you. I hope we can repair what has happened. I would like to spend time with your daughters again."

"As I said, it will take time for me to forget the incident," S'reena replied, "and I also said that I would try. The reason I asked you to fill in the story is so that the counselor would get an impression of both sides of the story."
She smiled softly, hoping it would seem sincere and motioned at his locked wheels. "And where would you move to were I to decide you deserve another such punch, this time actually getting at you instead of the poor counselor?" S'reena winked sideways at Graxen, though she knew he already knew she would do no such thing. "Not that I'm exactly mobile, mind you."
The Romulan sipped her tea again, and finished whatever was left in her mug in one big gulp. "If Kahlan and Yarna so desire, they may visit you," she added, "I'm sure Kahlan in particular would like that, she's taken a liking to you. I'm afraid Yarna still misses her 'Uncle Tony' too much." She turned to Graxen. "Captain Anthony Marcell is her godfather, and he doted on her before he was reassigned. Yarna was really the only one who yearned to be with him when he was......indisposed a few missions ago, and was under heavy guard. The girl wouldn't stop crying unless we left her in close viscinity to Marcell. It was quite odd to witness, especially since he was very eager to see me killed. And tried to accomplish that himself at that."
She turned her gaze back to Bates. "Kahlan however, can't stop talking about you. She's full of tales and I'm sure they change everytime she tells them. She started with you fending off one or two romulans, but by now it seems to have been an entire regiment of them." She smiled mischievously, hoping Bates would get the bait. She just didn't stick her tongue out at him, but the thought was certainly there, and from another direction, she could actually hear Graxen chuckle.

Bates was telling his side of the story and yes, John agreed with Bates; his story did seem to contradict. But that didn’t matter, sides of stories was what John’s job was all about. The unexpected thing was S’reena’s children. Most of the time when two people have such grievances, the family is not around. However, John thought, this could very well be the key to helping the two Commanders resolve this and come to an understanding at least.
John looked at Bates and said, “Commander Bates, could it have been that the children being … dropped in your lap … the lap of a Engineer with a PhD … has been the cause of a small bit of feeling not respected; seeing how you’re the only CEO that I know of in a hover chair?”
<Bates>
John said, “Commander please don’t misunderstand me, but I’m just trying to get you to see that when people have … well … life behind them, and all the baggage that brings, that could be part of the cause.” Looking now a S’reena, “Commander Hope, you have already stated that your past effects how you react … and understandable so …,” talking to them both now John continued. “I’m not trying to belittle either of your pasts, however I’m stating that your past shapes, however little or even how much, how your react to … what I call … life’s action scripts. It would be good if you two would agree to spend some time with me … now … before you say anything about not liking counselors,” looking over at Bates, “ … or not liking anybody to peer into your mind, would you just give it a chance?” John loved to ask yes or no questions … he didn’t know how the two would look at the comment of chance, but he hoped they would see it as a way to get through this with a better outlook on what could be a friendship.
***
S’reena started her rebuttal to Bates’s comments and added the information about her children and then some story about a Captain Marcell, and the fact that he wanted to kill her. John didn’t know what that was all about but it didn’t concern this story; so he let it go. S’reena offered Bates, if her children wanted to, the request that he had asked for; and John was glad that she did … it showed her willingness to work through this conflict. Then he started to sense something from her … a … mischievous thought. He didn’t know the facts about that thought, but from what he has seen from her so far … it sent a small snigger to his lips before he could stop it from being heard.
Seeing the wink from S’reena, John looked back at her with one eyebrow raised as if to say, now, now Commander let’s be professional about this.
“Commanders, if you want, we could schedule another time to sit and talk … or … we could just play it by ear. Either way, I would hope to see you both in my office again. If not, then I would like to invite you to my quarters, say … once every seven days for a meal. I cook a mean … well … anything really. I like to think that cooking as a hobby; and what the hey, if you don’t like it … then there is always the replicator.”

S'reena frowned at the mention of a weekly meeting and noticed an equal frown on Noah's face. She chuckled, then laughed at the mention of a home-cooked meal. "Only if I can assist in the cooking!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands like a child, "I love cooking!"
She slowly got up from her seat. "I have to get back to sickbay, I'm sure someone has transported my means of transportation there, and the children are with Michael, I have to pick them up." She gazed down at Bates. "Want to tag along?"
<Bates>
S'reena didn't wait for his answer, and slowly walked out of the office, and back to sickbay, smiling as Bates wheeled up next to her. She took the handles of the chair for support, and used her own muscle power to push him to sickbay. By the time they got there, she was exhausted.
"Ah!" Michael exclaimed, as he spotted her. "Cadet Edison, good to finally see you," he then called at a young male wearing a marine's patch on his cadet uniform. "I'll see to your physical shortly, meanwhile, would you please get the commander her chair?" He motioned to the hoverchair that was hovering closeby. "She's been walking enough now and needs to rest her legs."
"Michael!" S'reena retorted, smiling at the young man. "I believe we haven't met yet. I am Commander S'reena Hope, and the doctor overthere," she motioned at Michael, "is my husband."
<Edison>
"Why thank you," she said as he even assisted her in sitting down. "So, what will you be training in, and what made you choose to do so. Tell us something about yourself young man."
<Edison>

S'reena rolled her eyes at the men around her and smiled at the young cadet. "At ease soldier," she said, still smiling, "or you might pull somthing. And if you take a closer look at me, then you'll see that command isn't just paperwork. And I'm sure that these men here will happily inform you that as a command track officer, I get in more trouble than I bargain for."
<instructors>
She shifted in her hoverchair to get more comfortable, and continued to gaze up at the young marine. "So you're a marine then, and you think command is nothing for you. We'll see if you still think the same once you've spent some time with us." She grinned brightly. "I'll tell you now, we're a crazy lot."
That caused some protests to come from the other officers, and she smirked at Drew. "Ah, but we are," she continued, then turned back to Edison. "So, soldier, tell us a bit more about you. Who is Cadet Matthew Edison? What does and doesn't he like?"
The cadet apparently didn't feel ready to tell a bunch of strangers more about himself and turned his back on them, leaving sickbay in long strides.
S'reena frowned at her fellow officers. "Touchy person," she said, then turned as she heard laughter behind her, and Kahlan ran up to her, Yarna toddling behind her. After a quick hug, Kahlan turned to Bates, and gazed up at him questioningly. Yarna, however snuggled up to her mother and didn't take notice of anyone else.

(OOC: By the way, its an actual wheelchair Bates uses, albeit a high-tech futuristic one. It's still got real wheels on it. ) “Commander Bates, could it have been that the children being … dropped in your lap … the lap of a Engineer with a PhD … has been the cause of a small bit of feeling not respected; seeing how you’re the only CEO that I know of in a hover chair?” "That may have been it, now that I think about it," Bates said as he considered the question. "Though I made up for the wheelchair by doing the best I could. My name is certainly well-known at the Daystrom Institute, where I got my Masters and PhD. One of the professors I did my Doctoral work under wanted to have one of the laboratories named after me. Don't think it ever happened though," Bates said shrugging. ---------------------(Skipping a bit)---------------------- “Commanders, if you want, we could schedule another time to sit and talk … or … we could just play it by ear. Either way, I would hope to see you both in my office again. If not, then I would like to invite you to my quarters, say … once every seven days for a meal. I cook a mean … well … anything really. I like to think that cooking as a hobby; and what the hey, if you don’t like it … then there is always the replicator.” "Only if I can assist in the cooking!" S'reena exclaimed, clapping her hands like a child, "I love cooking!" "As do I," Bates added. "I know a few Irish dishes that I'm sure you two would find quite enjoyable." S'reena slowly got up from her seat. "I have to get back to sickbay, I'm sure someone has transported my means of transportation there, and the children are with Michael, I have to pick them up." She gazed down at Bates. "Want to tag along?" "Certainly," Bates said, and took off after her as she had already headed for the door. He was a bit surprised when she began pushing his chair for him, but welcomed the chance to relax his arms. Noah smiled when Commander Hope's children ran into the room. Looks like they had to come to him, conveniently. Kahlan looked up at him in question. He smiled even more, and patted his lap, nodding. She climbed up and sat down, leaning against his chest. "Hi Uncle Noah," she said. He quickly snapped his head up in surprise at the greeting, looking at S'reena with raised eyebrows.
