Vana meandered along the decks of Starbese Conqueror aimlessly. Bemused by the reality if the place she wondered what to do. 'Perhaps i'll visit one of those bars i heard the other cadets talking about' she thought to herself. She made tracks for the nearest turbo lift. She steps inside, thinks for a moment and declares to the comput 'deck 25'. As the turbolift moves off she nods approvingly to herself, 'yes, i think i'll try the Geyser Night Club'. Sounds like a lively place from what i've heard. The doors open and she steps out onto deck 25. 'Oh my!' she thinks to herself, as she peruses the situation, the biggest question on her mind being 'what do i drink again?'.
Polly was never one to go to nightclubs, and having led a rather sheltered life hadn't even been allowed to go to one as her father was very explicit in his instructions. Any disobedience would've been met with a strong beating. Unconsciously, Polly rubbed her arms, remembering many a beating she'd received in her youth.
Yet now, while TJ was recovering in sickbay, Polly felt the need to mingle with people her age and the best place to do that was at a club. A little uncertain, she stood on the threshold to the venue when she was passed by a woman wearing a cadet's uniform. The woman, too, looked a little uncertain.
"Hi there," Polly called, approaching her, "looks to me you're new to the station. I'm Polly Edwards." Polly smiled. "Could brag forever about my husband being a starship captain and his trainingvessel being the fleet's pride and joy....but I'd rather hear what got you to the academy, and this station."
A little startled, Vana gathered herself and processed what Polly had said. 'Oh, i, well.' Grasping for the right words, Vana felt the red flush of confusion overcome her strained face. 'I guess i'm just a wandering soul, with a lot of questions about life and such'. As she reached into the nebula of her thoughts, vana became overcome with the sense of adventure she had been longing for. 'I want to explore existence i suppose. And myself, while i'm at it.' 'What about yourself?'
"A wandering soul," Polly echoed, smiling encouragingly, "that's nicely put. Aren't we all wandering souls in search for ourselves?" She knew that she'd recently undergone a drastic personality change, and she knew who to thank for it too. "And exploration is what brought you to the academy? Well then, I daresay you're in the right place. You aren't studying to become a counselor by any chance? That philosophical input you just gave might give you the makings of a very good one."
She motioned towards a vacant table. "Shall we sit?" At the cadet's nod, the teenager (for Polly's only 19) signaled an attendant and ordered a large coffee. "Want anything?"
"Anyway, the Hepta, my husband's ship, will be leaving fairly soon. I think you'l like him, even though with that distinct brogue of his he can be a tad difficult to understand. But he's a good man and he offers everyone a chance, even a second or third chance if he thinks they deserve it."
Now it was Polly's turn to blush deeply. "And I know..." she whispered guiltily. "So...looking forwad to your space adventure?"
