Once you have submitted a join form (you may fill one out via the following link: www.s47.org/join.php) your first task is to report in HERE on this Message Board.
For Administrative purposes, PLEASE CREATE A USERNAME FOR YOUR PROBOARDS PROFILE THAT MATCHES YOUR CHARACTER'S NAME! It is extremely difficult to find members and update their ranks, etc. if the Username is something other than the character's name.
Your *report in* post can be as simple as “Cadet Smith reporting for duty, sir.” Or as elaborate as how your character decided to join Starfleet, how you were transported to Conqueror, what your quarters are like or even what your hopes, dreams and aspirations for your career are. Your reporting in post will be acknowledged and when enough new members have arrived, we will ask you to report in to your assigned training vessel.
You will be informed via email as to which training vessel you are on and which position you will be training in. Please be aware that your first choice position may not be the position you train in. However, every effort will be made to ensure that your fleet assignment after graduating from the Academy will be your first choice position – the position you indicated on your original join form.
The Academy Message Board: Here, on this very board, is where new cadets will practice their simming skills while awaiting their training vessel assignment. The Academy is located on Starbase Conqueror. The Academy campus is separate from your ship and thus any posting activity before you are assigned to a vessel should occur on the Academy Message Board. Please use this board to post about campus life, activities, meeting other cadets, your classes or recreational activities. Be creative! Have fun!
Character Biography: All cadets must submit a completed character biography to their assigned vessel’s First Officer, or send it to the Academy Commandant, or post it here before they will be allowed to graduate. A helpful guides for composing your bio are located on the Communication Corps site link: www.s47.org/CCSindex.php
~ or, you may go to the site’s main page and follow the links to the Comm Corps site.
The Academy Training Vessels - USS Hepta - The Academy’s Flagship, USS Hanson, USS Hope ~Starbase Conqueror’s Triple H Fleet:
Once you are assigned to an academy vessel, you will be taken under-wing by some of the most experienced officers in Section 47. These Academy Instructors will offer their time and talents to answer questions and personally guide you on how to become a “good simmer”. Please note that our Academy Instructors signed on knowing that new cadets will have many questions. Please tap the resource of their knowledge by contacting them either through email or instant messaging. Instructors provide their email and IM addresses for you to use for any questions you may have. Don’t be afraid to utilize them!
The Academy Training Missions:
The Academy Training Missions will run for four consecutive weeks (Friday through Friday). You, as a newly assigned cadet, will have one week in which to report for duty. A call will go out on your training vessel’s message board from the Commanding Officer (CO) for all cadets to report. You will also be notified via your assigned ship’s email group or private email to report in for duty. You will *report in for duty on your assigned vessel’s main message board. While waiting for everyone to report, cadets should busy themselves with practice simming at the Academy Campus on Starbase Conqueror. (See ‘Academy Message Board’ paragraph above.) Once all cadets have reported in, the mission will begin the following Friday. The mission details will be given and you will be expected to write your posts pertaining to your particular position and expertise. Make every effort to read the message boards daily once your training mission begins. Pay particular attention to the details of the ‘mission outline’ usually posted on week number two by the CO of your assigned training vessel.
All cadets will be given the rank designation ‘Cadet 4th Class’ upon arrival at the Academy. Each week, providing you remain **active, your rank will increase until culminating with ‘Cadet 1st Class’ upon graduation from the Academy. *Cadets who do not report in for duty will be considered AWOL (Absent With-Out Leave) and will be removed from the Academy list. You may wish to reenlist on another Academy vessel that is beginning a new mission or wait for your assigned ship’s return to report in for a new 4-week mission.
**An ‘active’ cadet will post an absolute minimum of one post per week during the training mission.
Structure of the Academy: The Academy will operate with the following ranks for Cadets:
Cadet 4th Class - Entry week/1st week
Cadet 3rd Class - 2nd Week
Cadet 2nd Class - 3rd Week
Cadet 1st Class - 4th week
*one bar = Cadet 4th class, two = Cadet 3rd class, etc.
The ranks structure is designed around a 4 week stay in the Academy. Each week, if the cadet is actively simming and attempting to answer trivia, he/she will increase in rank beginning with Cadet 4th class and concluding with Cadet 1st class.
• To gain a new rank, a cadet will be required to earn 10 points per week. A minimum of 5 points will be awarded for attempting to answer the site’s weekly trivia questions and 5 points for posting. (Trivia answers do not necessarily have to be correct to receive your five points.)
• A total of 30 points minimum will be required to graduate at the end of the four weeks.
• Actual scored trivia points (for answering the weekly trivia questions correctly and answering poll questions) over the 4 week training period will accumulate toward your rank upon graduation from the Academy. (0-20 points = Ensign; 21-75 = Lt. JG; 76-135 points = Lt.)
ACTING ENSIGNS – TRAINING ON A NON-ACADEMY VESSEL: FORMER OR CURRENT MEMBERS CREATING A SECOND CHARACTER/ EXPERIENCED SIMMERS FROM OTHER SIM SITES MAY BECOME ACTING ENSIGNS - TRAINING ON A NON-ACADEMY VESSEL:
If you are anxious to begin simming but your chosen position on all the training vessels in the Triple H Fleet are filled or all ships are currently on mission, you may choose to become an Acting Ensign (A/E). An A/E is assigned to a NON-Academy vessel to learn their simming skills aboard an active ship in the S47 fleet. The Assistant Academy Commandant (AAC) must be informed of your intentions of becoming an A/E. The AAC will make arrangements with the Commanding Officer on a suitable vessel and inform you of your assignment. The CO of the non-Academy vessel will be responsible for scoring the A/E’s simming points and reporting them weekly to the AAC. As an A/E, it is recommended that you remind your CO to report in weekly to the Academy regarding your participation.
You may also choose to become an Acting Ensign if you are an experienced simmer. In this situation, in order to become an A/E, you must submit a sample post to the Academy Commandant. If your sample is of high quality, you will be informed to report to a non-Academy ship in the fleet as an A/E. Former members and current members wishing to create a second character will be placed aboard a ship in the fleet as an Acting Ensign until they have answered trivia and earn points.***All cadets (including A/E’s) are required to submit a bio on the Academy message board or emailed to the Academy Commandant and/or Asst. Academy Commandant before being able to graduate.***
NOTE: Cadets are not allowed to create additional characters until after they have taken their primary character through the Academy and successfully completed the requirements for graduation.[/color]
Leave of Absence:
If you know of specific times when you will be absent from the sim game for over three consecutive days, you must post your absence on the ship's message board. Emailing the CO of your training vessel is also a good idea! Not posting or informing the Academy of a leave of absence may result in your being removed from the Academy requiring you to reenlist.
Any questions? Please email me or ask them on the Academy Commandant's Office Message Board.
