I have been wondering ... since we have all this free time between missions and while we wait to see who our new commander might be ... perhaps we can discuss ideas for the next mission. I mean, when we get our new commander, they are likely to be rushed and have a lot to do to get ready for a future mission ... it may be a nice "welcome" present if we already have a viable idea waiting for him or her when they arrive.
What does everyone think?

Your point is well-taken. A new ship, a new CO, and obviously a shakedown cruise. But there will be only 5 of us, with the new CO, unless we can get a couple of cadets just graduated. Pretty good bunch this time too.
We've got that telepathic red cat. We promised to help it find its home. So we could begin there, perhaps, on a mission to return it to its home, which would be kind of a first contact scenario.
How's that?

Sounds like a good idea, it would be a great shakedown mission. I was thinking, it could be a planet with a central society that is allied or even a member of the Federation, but there is a secondary civilization there that we never knew about. It would be a unique first contact mission ... though I wonder if it would be altogether viable.
What do you think? I had also considered having Mikail staying with us afterall ... though ... I don't know, I wonder how that would work.

That's a good idea...let's extend it a little further. The secondary civilization (Mikhail's) isn't on that planet but on a tidally-locked planet very nearby. The second civilization has been dreadfully overlooked, and is in fact a vassal state to the larger one. The Federation didn't know this when they were admitted--and since that's a breach of membership, there is reason to continue to conceal it.
First contact, diplomatic mission--and a whole new world to explore.

I was also considering adding a bit about slavery ... Mikail was a prince on his planet and perhaps his father or someone was overthrown and he, the crown prince, was sold into slavery to get him off the planet. I am thinking that perhaps there is a slave trade going on this planet and Mikail's father was trying to fight it. Those that overthrew him possibly killed him or sold him or something like that. Mikail returning would cause some serious turbulance ... especially if they've installed a king that is lenient or in pay of slave traders. We could link the slave trade on the satellite planet to the main planet ... which would be a very serious Federation member infraction.

Excellent! Now all we have to do is run it by the new CO, when we get one.
This is going to be exciting.

That all sounds good to me. I'm willing to go with whatever you guys come up with. T'Pren can "talk" to Mikail, so whatever you need her to do with him, let me know.
