One of the things I've noticed with most of you here on Nevada that you're doing keeps your good posts from being great posts. And it is simply a matter of keeping certain things in mind. What I'm referring to is an error made when you copy-and-paste what someone said in a previous post. Now, I'm not saying there's anything against doing so; it needs to be done on many occasions to keep down the confusion. When copying what someone else says, avoid copying what they are thinking and/or feeling. As an example, say this appears in a post (not using a occasion to avoid singling anyone out): "Ensign, have you located the source of that signal?" Captain Johnson asked, thinking about the lives of those distressed people. When copying such a sentence into your post to respond to it, assuming it was directed to you, don't post what the Captain is thinking along with what he or she is saying! 99% percent of the time, you're posting from one character's perspective, most often your own character's, so you don't know what another person is thinking. Better way to put it is: "Ensign, have you located the source of that signal?" Captain Johnson asked. Simple as that. Just leave off anything the person is thinking or feeling can greatly improve the quality of post, and keep me from sighing and shaking my head when I read such instances. Cheers! Dan (OOC: If anyone else has any other suggestions on how to improve posting, feel free to add to this thread

I think that is an excellent observation.

One thing I really like about this site is the handy-dandy spell checker. What I've noticed (especially while at the Academy) is that some people don't utilize this helpful tool, as often as they could. I know people get excited and want to post while 'in the moment'. But sometimes it's difficult for me to decipher what a character is trying to communicate when spelling mistakes plague their post. Also after trying to plow my way through a myriad of spelling errors I seldom feel like posting a reply. In this respect it's as if the post has the complete opposite of its intent, which should be to captivate the reader and fuel their desire to write something just as brilliant. Numerous spelling mistakes are also a poor representation of one's writing ability. A writer may have fantastic ideas but if these ideas are communicated poorly, the reader never perceives them or is only allowed a glimpse of what is possible. So for other's sake, and your own, take an extra minute to use the spell checker. I misspelled captivate the first time around.

I'd like to add to this topic for those of us who tend to have pc problems/issues.
I've actually started doing all (most) of my posts in a word/text document program for several reasosn now.
1) Spell checker. 2) Grammar checker, you'd be surprised how many different ways you can actually try to say the same thing. 3) For saving the file as I sometimes have issues with the website or something else on the pc, etc. This way I haven't lost all of my hard work when I try to hit send and it gets lost in cyberspace somehwere. If it does, I still have my original.
