Mike was tending to his console waiting for the entry into the sector. The results of the diagnostic showed that the department was running as smooth and precise as a Swiss watch. Just as he begun to relax, Mike's console started beeping and flickering.
"Sir, there is something out there.", Mike said the FO. "What is it, Mr. Pasek?" "I can't be sure.", said Mike doing standard scans of the area, "It's coming from the Sector, but it seems that the scanners are being affected by what ever it is that's jamming them." "Well are there any good news?", said the FO already prepared to give the red alert order. "Just a second, sir.", Mike said scanning the area again, "Well, I'm sure it's not a space craft, it's far to small." There was an obvious sign of relief on the FO's face. "It's heading this way... It has no propulsion, it's drifting.", Mike continued, "It's coming closer but it's not on a collision course, it'll pass some 5 kilometres of to port." It was a close shave but it wasn't dangerous. "On screen.", the FO ordered but the screen didn't reveal anything special. Mike was standing at it's console, waiting for that thing, whatever it was, to come out, so he could say what it was. As the tensions on the Jefferson bridge rose, the object flew into scanning range. "I have it, sir. It's...", Mike stopped for a minute as his face showed sadness, "It's the Ronoak's port nacelle." The bridge went silent and the sorrow and sadness spread like a plague. Mike scanned the drifting nacelle again and got a visual on the small screen on his console. As the picture appeared Mike thought there is something wrong with it, but he couldn't put his finger on it. After staring at it for a minute or two he said: "Sir, there is something strange here." The FO turned and looked at Mike. "Look at this.", Mike said and sent the picture he got to the main screen, "Do you notice anything there, sir?" The FO looked at it but didn't notice anything. It's completely normal not to notice because, well, when you are in a situation like that, you just don't know what to look for. "No, I don't see anything." "Look at this.", Mike said enlarging the section of the picture where the nacelle used to be attached to the ship, "There are no parts hanging form the nacelle and the plating is in tact." Everyone on the bridge looked at the screen, wondering what happened. "The nacelle wasn't blown of by a weapon, it was cut of. And very clean I might add."

Steve was patiently waiting for any type of report to come through on anyone's console. He looked all around the bridge, moving from console to console. Within moments, the tactical station started beeping. Steve turned to face it and slowly walked to it.
"Sir. Transmission from the Jefferson." Lt Lucas called to him. "They are sending a visual over."
'A visual of what?' Steve thought. "On screen." He replied, then looked to the main viewer a second later when the screen changed.
Within seconds, his happy face immediately went grim. The view on screen was of the port nacelle of the Ronoak. Unfortunatly, the rest of the ship was nowhere to be seen.
'There must be some signficance of this recording, otherwise we wouldnt have been sent it.' He thought to himself again.....something that he had been doing for a while recently.
Upon continiued viewing of the nacelle, he noticed something and wondered why he didnt notice it before....the nacelle had been cleanly cut away from the Ronoak. Who done it, why and even how that happened was a mystery.
Very slowly, Steve headed to his chair. "Viewer off." He called, without looking, and he heard the screen change back to its normal setting. Instead of sitting, he leaned on the arm, and turned to his FO, Dr Irae.
"Do you have any ideas what could have happened out here?" He asked her. At this moment in time, he was open to anything.

:: Deis looked back at the captain and then frowned in thought. she punches up a bit of programming on the cool captain chair armrest of buttons and the transmission plays softly across the bridge. Everyone stops for a moment as it plays, expecially when the last but runs through::
"I think this is as close as we can get...Wait--what is that? Oh my god, what is that?! There is something on the bridge! Something black...some kind of life form...It's...AAH! STARFLEET!
"SHRIEEKKKKKK!!!!!"
Vorsky: AAGHHH! T-transm-m-mitting log t-to...Comm array 402.... What is happening now...What the---"
::then she turns it back off looking at the image on the screen of the sheared off nacell. Then recieving another image that she cant quite make out. All she sees is stars until....wait. One of the stars seems to dissappear and then reappear again later, as though something had gone before it::

Sitting in engineering, Harrias was partaking in the ancient and sacred task of waiting. He had to admit that it was a rather boring ancient and sacred task, but hey, aren't they all! He was in fact waiting for some kind of reply from Savot, or in fact any of the reports that he had requested. When his console beeped to alert him to a message, he jumped slightly, having lulled himself into a state of complete relaxation. He did however instantly tap the console, thus opening the message. To his surprise it was from Deis Irae. She had sent a message requesting that the deflector array be configured to...
Harrias couldn't help but snort in laughter. He hated to laugh at his superiors, but, well.
"Hey Kivan, check this out."
The Assistant Chief Engineer wandered over, and read the message, and soon he also was in hysterics.
"Good one that. Now, if you don't mind me, I'm just heading up to the bridge."
[ON THE BRIDGE A FEW MINUTES LATER]
"Doc, can I have a word?" he addressed the first officer a bit less formally than he had meant to, but decided not to correct himself for fear of alerting others to his slip.
Lt Cmdr Irae moved over to the other side of the room, to where Harrias was sure he would be out of hearing range of everyone but Savot, before talking to Deis.
"Commander Savot... how is that reporting coming? Commander Irae, your idea concerning the radar, it... has merit, the only small problem is that sound waves can not travel through space. It's just the way they travel. Sound is simply the process of a particle vibrating, and then that particle temporarily disturbes the particle besides it from its rest position. This particle in turn impinges upon its nearest neighbor, causing it to be displaced from its rest position, and so on. In a vacuum, like space, there are no particles to vibrate. The only way it can be done is to use the radar along a tractor beam, but that would require knowing where they were, hence our original problem. Even if we put the tractor onto a wide beam, we would have a tiny range. It may be possible to use some other particle to mirror the effect, but I am not sure of any that will succeed. Maybe our good operations officer, or new science officer will have some idea."

<<USS El Salvador, Bridge>> The beeping of the tactical console came as a relief…finally something that could contribute to solve the mystery of the Ronoak’s disappearance…as soon as the view of the nacelle was relayed to the main screen on the bridge everyone fell silent, thinking about the fate of the Ronoak’s crew.
Captain Smith was the first to regain composure, turning the viewscreen off, after seconds that felt like an eternity. It was the first time Agalacticae saw his captain so serious and thoughtful. He was leaning on the armrest of his chair, addressing his first officer - clearly wondering how the nacelle could have been cut off so precisely…
Smith: "Do you have any ideas what could have happened out here?"
Waiting for Irae’s answer Agalacticae received Harrias’ message and also the request for Savot to perform a sensor sweep of the surrounding space. Agalacticae could not help wondering whether this “phenomenon” could have something to do with the nacelle being cut off so precisely. Almost instantly he thought about myriads of scenarios what the phenomenon could be. Some sort of anti-matter, dissolving matter in its path to energy? …a life form that would use direct contact for combat, maybe just cutting through the nacelle? …moving objects with an immense gravity, bending the light around it on its path? …maybe even some sort of micro-black-holes?
Being more of a navigator than a scientist Agalacticae had no way of figuring out which of these scenarios could be plausible but after seeing the nacelle of the Ronoak none of his thoughts felt comforting…
Deis: “Captain...cannae this ship send out sonar?? Simple soundwaves. What e'er be out there, im bettin sound would be bouncin offa it. I dinnae wha we be nae lookin at. Cloaked but black. P'raps somethin phasic...e'en a lifeform. I dinna know th likes o a weapon tha would make tha clean a cut. Phasic...?
I am nae an expert on thins tha dwell in th dark o space...but tis worth a try. Either way...thar be somethin out there.”
Deis proposition seemed like she had noticed the same phenomenon as he had encouraging Agalacticae to bring it up. Taking a deep breath, closing his eye for a brief moment he turned around in his chair addressing his superiors.
Agalacticae: “Sirs, about your remark Lt. Comm. Deis - I might have noticed something”
Smith, still somewhat disappointed by his new CNO who seemed to be dozing off, acknowledged Agalacticae’s remark.
Smith: “Proceed”
Agalacticae: “When I don’t look at the viewscreen directly, it feels as if I can see something moving. Actually it is not something, merely the lack of something, like something blocking the light from faint stars, the ones you can only see when you don’t look directly at them…
...maybe we should also tell the Jefferson about this?”
It seemed like he had hit a nerve as Deis seemed to nod, recognizing in the pilot's description what had made her ask for a sonar-like scan. The rest of the bridge looked at the navigator with great doubt. Still, the only way to find out was to try to do what Agalacticae proposed. Reluctantly everyone tried to look at the screen indirectly – if the situation had not been as serious at it was, it might have looked quite amusing to see the whole bridge crew deliberately trying to avoid looking at the viewscreen.

Mike was at his station when the ops console started beeping. The ops officer got quickly to it: "Sir, an incoming message from the El Sal." "Put it through.", said the captain. The view screen soon showed the El Sal's bridge with everyone tending to their business very intensively. "Greeting, everybody.", said Captain. Smith, "Captain, we have some ideas about how and were to go form here." "Go ahead.", responded the captain to captain Smith, and addressed his crew, "Open your ears people, especially you, Mr. Pasek." "Aye, sir.", Mike said, concentrating. Captain Smith informed the Jefferson crew of their ideas, with the help of their FO and Cmdr Agalacticae. Mike was listening very carefully, but he didn't have to much idea about what the signs the El Sal crew experienced could mean. But he was surprised with the idea dr. Irae came up with. Especially because it made a lot of sense, just the method was wrong. "Great, Cmdr. Irae. You just gave me an idea.", Mike said and started working on his station, explaining his actions as he put them to work on the console, "Cmdr. Jira was right about the sound waves, but that doesn't count for EM waves." Everybody was waiting for Mike to finish, but they got pretty much the idea where the whole thing was going. Mike pressed a few more buttons on the console and finally the modifications were done. He managed to modify the ships main deflector to emit EM waves, re-routing some power to the deflector to increase it's output strength and connected it through the magnetic oscillator in engineering, creating a computer controlled emitter. "Engineering, mind if I borrow one of your magnetic oscillators for a while?", Mike asked. The response came quickly, as Mike expected: "No problem, go right ahead." Mike called the computer: =/\= Computer, initiate the modified engineering magnetic oscillator test. Test all frequencies from 1 kHz to 1 THz. Initiate the test on my mark. =/\= As he did that Mike prepared the sensors for EM imaging, while everybody waited for him to finally tell them what was he up to. The whole process didn't take more then a few minutes. =/\= Computer, mark. =/\= said Mike and started explaining, "This is called an EM resonance scan. Every particle out there will respond to a specific frequency and send a signal back for our scanners to pick up, thus creating an series of images showing every atom out there. We'll just collect them and see what they show." As Mike was explaining his actions, the computer started the test, powering the oscillator and setting it to the specified frequencies, and that way changing the output of the main deflector. "The images should be back within an hour or two." "Very well. Call us when it's done. El Sal out.", said captain Smith closing the comm channel.
¤¤¤ Later ¤¤¤
The bridge was calm, and Mike was sitting at his console, waiting for the scan results. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the console started beeping. ¤What?!¤ Mike thought to himself as he almost fell out of his chair. Looking at his sensors and the scan everything was going great, and the only thing abnormal out there was the rapid growth of nucleonic particles, protons, neutrons, bosons and quarks. ¤What's that?¤ he thought to him self, scanning the area with the sensor grid capacities that were not involved in the resonance scan. ¤ Incredible ¤ Mike thought as his scan results came in ¤All the particles were emmited form a few locations. And those were string-like. Strange.¤ "Commander.", he said calling the FO, "Could you take a look at this." The FO turned and Mike sent the Scan results to his personal screen on his chair. "What is that?", the FO asked looking at the results. "My guess is that they are some kind of high energy strings we can't detect. Only something like that could turn my EM waves into particles by energising them, and energising them good." "Interesting.", said the FO, "I bet the El Sal crew would like to have a look at this, too." As the FO contacted the El Sal, Mike continued his resonance scan.

<<USS El Salvador, Bridge>> Agalacticae smiled at the teamwork that suddenly had started between the two ships. Following the report of his observations, Irae had come up with something Agalacticae had not even thought about. If the scanners could not detect the phenomenon, maybe that is because there is nothing to detect - the “moving shadows” not sending out any form of detectable energy… The first officer’s idea was brilliant. If no energy was coming from the phenomena, why not try to send energy into their direction to see what happens, whether there is some sort of reflection or absorption. Why had he not thought of that himself…the only thing Agalacticae was wondering about was a possible explanation without any constructive ideas of how to learn more about these phenomna before jumping to conclusions… If there was one thing he admired - well taking his somewhat strained relationships to Doctors into account - respected about physicians, it was strong diagnostic reasoning. Apparently Irae could make use of that skill in her new position, even before the Captain...
As soon as Lt. Com. Pasek heard of Irae’s sound proposal he was absorbed by the idea, modifying the main deflector of the USS Jefferson, barely having time to explain his doings to the El Sal crew. Soon after he had modified the Jefferson’s deflector to emit EM waves he began his scan. The first reading didn't take long to be gathered, reporting them to the Jefferson’s FO, who decided to let the El Sal have look as well.
Gibson: “Well, Mr. Pasek, you should tell them yourself!”
Pasek hailed the El Salvador, explaining the first readings from the sensor array regarding the “phenomena”. Displaying the sensor scan of the El Salvador onto the main screen everybody could see the particles emerging from where the EM waves seemed to disappear. Continuing his report Pasek speculating about high-energy strings, energizing the EM waves into particles, pointing out that a lot of energy would be needed to do so.
Studying the particle patterns Agalacticae noticed that the particles appeared when the EM waves hit the strings, but that the particles emission subsequently disappeared, suggesting that the strings move. This would also explain the moving “back spots”, Irae, Harrias and Agalacticae had seen on the viewscreen. Mentioning this to Pasek he promptly replied:
Pasek: =/\= I noticed that too and so far I haven’t been able to predict the movements, making it extraordinarily dangerous for anything to come into their path…I would suggest staying clear of them. =/\=
The remark seemed to be directed into the navigational officer’s directions and Agalacticae only nodded in response. Irae who had been somewhat quiet during Pasek’s briefing, contemplating maybe about more than just Pasek’s word, made another suggestion.
Irae: “Well, Mr. Pasek, first of all thank you for putting this so diligently into action – I would propose combining the two ship’s ability to emit EM waves through their main deflectors to get a higher accuracy of the string’s positions. Possibly we will even be able to figure out their moving pattern, by covering a larger area with EM waves…”
Pasek =/\= I was just about to propose the same thing, Lt.Com Irae, although it is dangerous - we have no way of telling how these strings behave. =/\=
Irae: "But if we don't try we won't find out - we will be careful and follow your guidance to every detail..."
Pasek =/\= I’ll send you the specs for the modifications right away and also a tracking path for your ship. Pasek out =/\=
The excitement in Pasek’s voice was that of a true scientist, already marveling at the next discovery to come. Just hearing Pasek speaking inspired Agalacticae, wishing he could do more to help solving the mystery.
Relaying the specs for the modifications to Irae, she ordered Harrias to make the modification of the deflector dish his first priority. Soon after the El Sal was ready to go.
Irae: “Mr. Agalacticae, did you receive the coordinates? Move the El Sal into the first positon and start scanning, following the flight route as proposed by Mr. Pasek”
Agalacticae: “Aye, sir”
Slowly the El Salvador gained distance from the Jefferson and its starting position to begin emitting EM waves. Turning on the modified deflector dish the El Salvador started moving, trying to avoid space, where the strings were expected to be located. The Jefferson kept her position serving as orientation and fix-point gathering information, while the El Salvador would direct the EM waves at the strings from different locations…
Agalacticae hoped that they wouldn’t encounter any of the phenomena by accident, but with their current knowledge of the region they were maneuvering an encounter wouldn’t be unlikely…especially if we would have to deviate from Pasek's flight path... <Tag anyone…can I see another part of the Ronoak heading our way, forcing the El Sal to make an evasive maneuver, leaving our path? Is the El Sal going to run into one of these strings/phenomena? ...so many questions and posibilities....>

Mike was sitting at his console, almost half asleep, with his head put up on his fists, staring at the scan results. Those string are like nothing he saw before. ¤ Come on, give some kind of a hint ¤ he talked with the screen that was just running the results over and over again.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star...", Mike started singing not even realising it. Aral who was standing at his console slowly turned and looked at Mike who continued: "How I wonder what you are..."
"Sorry, Mike?", said Aral puzzled, "What was that?" "Oh, what? Oh, sorry.", Mike said acknowledging Aral's look and remark, "Just got carried away, that's all."
Aral smiled and returned to his business, while Mike turned to his console and deactivated the looping scan results. If he had seen them one more time, he would've gone nuts. Leaning back into his chair, Mike closed his eyes and let his head fall backwards. He felt like the whole room was spinning. "Your head's spinning, right?", said Aral when he saw how Mike went limp in the chair. "Yeah. I can't look at that scan anymore.", Mike replied not opening his eyes. "I know what you mean.", continued Aral, "It happened to me a few times. It's the monitors and to much concentration. It makes you tired like a fight with a Klingon." Mike just nodded his head, still lying in the chair. "And now everything is spinning. Going round and around.", Aral continued making conversation, trying to help Mike loosen up, "I always wondered why does it spin every time. I never saw a room going away or coming closer, it always spins. Everything always spins." Mike could hardly hear Aral, but he understood every word Aral said. Even though he was tired, he didn't want to leave his post. Mike being totally relaxed, Aral's words sat directly on his mind, without any obstacles or questions. The pure thought he got was just what Mike needed, and the word Aral said made perfect sense. "Always spins...", Mike said and jumped forward to the console, "Of course. How couldn't I see it. Thanks loads, Aral." "Don't mention it.", replied Aral, "And what exactly did I do?" Mike didn't answer Aral's question and instead reloaded the scan data. =/\= Computer, remodulate the data and place the readings in a standard Cartesian co-ordinate system. =/\= =/\= Specify system centre. =/\= =/\= The USS Jefferson. =/\= The computer beeped and a few moments later the data was imputed into the system, who's X axis was going from left to right and Y axis from down to up. =/\= Now, computer, display the view of the system in the direction of the Y axis. =/\= The whole system rotated and now the Z axis took the position of the Y and the X axis remained in it's place. =/\= Now, computer, run the scan data and display the string trajectories. =/\= The simulation started running and Mike couldn't believe his luck. The string were moving very regularly, and the trajectories might as well be circular. =/\= Computer, try calculating the trajectories and finding any regularity. =/\= The computer beeped a few times and gave out the result: =/\= All trajectories are circular and share a common centre of rotation. =/\= =/\= Display the centre. =/\= Mike said as the computer pointed out the co-ordinates of the centre. Mike couldn't believe his luck. The strings were travelling through the sector just as planets revolve around stars, and the gap between them was big enough not for two ships but for a dozen. It was just a matter of calculating the right course. "Naeli.", Mike said to the Jefferson's CNO, "I'm sending you something, Just wait a moment and I'll explain." The data was transferred and Naeli responded: "I got it. What' that?" Mike didn't answer but instead he hailed the El Sal. =/\= Pasek to the El Salvadore. =/\= =/\= El Salvadore here, Mr. Pasek. What do you have for us. =/\= =/\= I found a safe way ho to enter the sector and navigate past the energy strings. We could go after the Ronoak safely. I'm sending you the data now. =/\= Mike sent the data and it was on Cmdr. Agalacticae's console just a moment later. =/\= I belive it shouldn't pose any problems, Cmdr. Agalacticae. Could we do it? =/\= Cmdr. Agalacticae just smiled.

Mr Power was munching on an apple in the Engineer room, when a crewman came up to him.
Crewmember "Shouldn't you be working?"
Max Power replied "Im on break. I clock back on in 15 minutes."
Crewmember "Ok sir! Carry on!"
Max watched as the crewmember walked out the door.
"What a lovely fellow." Max thought to himself as he countined to eat his Apple. "Nice apple" he thought. "Just in season."
Max kept an apple tree in his quarters. He liked Apples. He was thinking of getting an orange tree. He wasnt sure. All this hard work was making him more hungry, so he headed to the replicator.
Max said to the replicator. "One orange please. Ripe, peeled for me"
The computer beeped and an orange came out.
Max thanked the computer and thought to himself "What a lovely fellow."
Max finished eating his orange...it was nice and sweet...just the way his mother used to make with her replicator. Max Power's break ended, so he walked over to a console "Status". The console didnt reply. "Status please?" Still nothing. He stood there puzzled. The crewmember from before walked up to him
Crewmember "Are you ok Sir?"
Max "Yes. I believe i am."
Crewmember "Carry on sir!"
Max smiled and thought "That fellow is nice"
Max come to the conclusion he was at the wrong console. "How embarassing" he thought. "First day nerves"
Max ended up at the right console and saw that there was a minor fluaction with the plasma relays. "Hmmm...thats a pickle." He thought to himself.
Max "Speaking of Pickles, Crewman Jones, can you do me a favour?"
Jones "What is it sir?"
Max "Can you head down to jefferies tube 11 and fix the plasma relay? Also, on the way back, a jar of Pickles?"
Jones "Um...ok Sir."
Max "Make sure the pickles are green"
Max saw Jones walk out the door. "His a nice fellow" he thought to himself "just as nice as the other crewman"
Max Power contuined to monitor the Engine systems.

<<USS El Salvador, Bridge>> Once again the teamwork between the ships had proven useful just like it had in previous missions. The El Salvador was on its way slowly circulating around the area where the phenomena seemed to be located, directing the EM waves at them from different directions. A steady flow of information was received at the science stations of both ships and Pasek was the first to make the data meaningful. By use of a standard cartesian co-ordinate system he could predict the strings path, which appeared similar to paths of planets around a center.
After receiving the data from Mr. Pasek Agalacticae immediately superimposed it on the path the El Salvador had been taking so far. Only to discover that they twice had been only a ships length away from some of those strings…
Pasek: =/\= I believe it shouldn't pose any problems, Cmdr. Agalacticae. Could we do it? =/\=
Agalacticae: =/\= Seems to me that we so far have been lucky Mr. Pasek…twice we were only under a ship’s length away from those strings. Definitely feels better to be able to “see” what to avoid =/\=
Both times the ship had been close to the strings Agalacticae had experienced a subtle vibration, having to adjust thrusters to stay on course.
Agalacticae: =/\= Mr. Pasek, do we know anything the gravitational force around those strings, I have a feeling that it is somewhat higher then we would expect from something that size? =/\=
Turning to his superiors, Smith and Irae Agalacticae suggested.
Agalacticae: “Sirs, as soon as we have more accurate data about the gravity forces around these strings I suggest we get closer to the center to take a closer look. I have a feeling that the gravity force patterns get more and more complicated as the strings circles around the center get narrower making it harder to predict the effect on the ship. With the El Salvador being more maneuverable, I think we should be the ones heading inside…”OOC: Tag anyone…was the minor fluctuation that Mr. Power observed in the Jefferson´s engine room related to a difference in power output to counteract a passing string’s gravitational field? Did we discover all the strings or only those that are in front of the ships, leaving some others passing behind the ships at a much larger radius? Being at the rear of the ships, the forward-pointing deflector-dishes would not have been able to emit EM waves at them, therefore being undetected so far? Did we notice any power fluctuations in the El Sal’s engines while we were passing the strings?

OFF: Hi everyone, sorry about my long absense, my comp had a virus and it got sent away for repairs...Twice. The mission seems to be going very nicely so far.
ON:
Michael Pasek worked frantically at his console, acting very excited. A true scientist at work. Commodore Loskene was proud of his whole crew, they were all acting very dedicated.
Pasek: Commodore, I have some fairly good news.
Loskene: Yes?
Pasek: I've been able to create a partial map of the strings. It's incredible, I've never seen so many of these things.
Loskene: Give me your opinion Mr. Pasek. Just what are these?
Pasek: Sigh... I don't know.
Loskene: Could they be life forms?
Pasek: That was one of my original thoughs. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of up close and personal data at the moment.
Loskene: The Ronoak came into direct contact with one of those....And something appeared on the bridge of that ship. And now we discover that their port nacelle is drifting in space, intact.
Pasek: So, what about you sir? Any ideas?
Loskene: Trying to turn the tables on your good captain eh?
Pasek: Heh. Not at all sir. Though this does require some imagination. Thats how most scientists work, it takes an open mind.
Loskene: Well...I...I just an interesting idea.
Pasek: My ears are burning sir.
Loskene: What if... What if those strings are some kind of small cavity into another dimension...A dimension in flux. When the Ronoak came into contact with the string, it disrupted both dimensions, thus whatever exists in that dimension was able to appear on the Ronoak...
Pasek: That is a very interesting theory... But what would account for the nacelle? It just doesn't make any sense. Oy, I'm just not understanding this at all.
Loskene: Mr. Pasek, Albert Einstein failed his first college entrance exam and he was a genius. You are our genius and I expect you to get it right the first time.
Pasek: Are you the ships pep talk senior officer now sir? Well anyway, your idea is very interesting. I'll see what I can do with it.
Loskene: Good.
Suddenly, Loskene got an unbearable pain in his head.
Loskene: Ughh!
Loskene bent down and held his head.
Matthew: Sir! What is it?
Loskene: Something.....Somethings not right! It's... It's.....Vorsky to security!!! Vorsky to security!! Intruders on the bridge!!! HELP!!!
Pasek: What?!
Matthew: Medical emergency on the bridge.
Loskene was lying on a bio bed. He was tossing and turning.
Matthew: What's happening to him?
Doctor: I do not know...
Aral Gibson: He started talking, saying strange things.
Matthew: Vorsky....
Loskene: No....I can't...I have 3 children! I can't leave them!!
Matthew: Sir!
Loskene sat up and opened his eyes.
Matthew: ...Sir?
Loskene: I...I'm on the Jefferson.
Matthew: Yes sir... Whats going on?
Loskene: I was there....I was on the Ronoak...I saw things...
Matthew: First you proclaimed you were Captain Vorsky. And the second time you said something about 3 children and how you would not leave them.
Loskene: I remember vaguely...I saw myself in Vorksy's place...I saw the bridge and everyone around me was lying in heaps on the floor... And then I was in a crew quarters. I looked in the mirror and I was a woman...lieutenant commander rank. I was being rushed out by security and I heard thuds coming from the bedroom. There were 3 children in there. I...
Matthew: Take it easy sir.
Doctor: Commodore, your brain is a very unique and complex organ.
Loskene: ..Thanks.
Doctor: So complicated that it took me a while to piece it all together. Your telepathic lobe is reading extremely high levels of uh...some kind of chemical that I can't identify...
Loskene: It's a fluidic compound that is normal in my species brains...But you are right, that is extremely high.
Pasek: Sir...I think you were on to something when you said that the strings were in flux. Somehow it must have affected your brain, disrupted it. The Ronoaks crew, when they died their nueral energy must be contained in the strings...
Loskene: We have to get closer.
Matthew: I don't think that would be a good idea. What if you have more of these attacks?
Loskene: We must findo out what happened... The things I saw and the memories I felt, I don't want them to be in vain, we must find out what happened. Number one, please send a message to the El-Salvador telling them of all that has transpired. I'll be on the bridge.
Doctor: Oh no you don't.
Loskene: Huh? Oh yeah, the telepathy thing. Well still, I need to be there.
Doctor: No.
Loskene: What if I just-
Doctor: No.
Loskene: But-
Doctor: No.
Loskene: Well I-
Doctor: No.
Loskene: (Speaks fast) Promotion for you-
Doctor: No-----D'oh.
Loskene: Hmph.

The shuttle, Delta-flyer «Antares' Ray» with its pilot Olav Lunderød [NPC] and the new Chief Operations Officer of the USS Jefferson Dimítrij Fos, was approaching Jefferson's and El Sal's position. It dropped out of warp not far from both ships.
«This is Delta-flyer «Antares' Ray» of Starbase Conqueror, requesting permission to land on the USS Jefferson.» Olav contacted the ship.
=/\= Wha… What?! «Antares' Ray», CUT YOUR ENGINES IMMIDEATELY! Do you hear me? Stop! Don't move, don't approach us! Did you copy? Stand still!.. =/\= a very agitated voice replied almost in a shout.
«What's the hell?» Olav stopped the shuttlecraft so rapidly that the shoch-dampeners almost could preserve the two people inside of meeting the viewscreen by their foreheads. The pilot looked first at the viewscreen, then on Dimítrij «Maybe they have some illness on board, or something like that?»
«Don't know.» Dimítrij replied «But I gonna know» He switched on comm system again.
«USS Jefferson? This is Ensign Dimítrij Fos, your new COO. What is happening? What is danger?»
Silence some seconds. It seemed that those on board were a bit surprised.
=/\= We cannot tell you exactly, but there're something like energy waves in space, they're on regular «orbits». You are in safety where you are, and we do not recommend you to come closer. We know their trajectories, you don't. Wait for instructions on your position. =/\=
Dimítrij's and Olav's eyes rounded, they looked at one another. «Vot dělá…» Dimítrij mumbled on his language.
«But can we be helpful from here, at last?» he asked in the microphone…
OFF: Greetings everyone! I decided not to report in usual way (and it seems that the captain Loskene is out of deals right now), and to enter the situation like this. PS: My mother tongue is not English, I'm sorry for the mistakes I'll (or even I've) probably make... And can you explain me more in details: what are these "strings"?

Post by Savot on Jun 20, 2004 14:45:06 GMT
OFF: Sorry for the absence, was on vacation all this past week, Smith was informed before I left. Back now though and ready to dive right in.
Savot stepped out of the turbolift, PADD in hand and walked straight towards Smith's center seat. "Mr. Savot, you've been down in Stellar Cartography for the better part of an hour now, what kept you?"
Savot handed the Captain the PADD and began his report. "I scanned the Ronoak's dismembered nacelle thoroughly, specifically the fracture point. I discovered an absolute lack of any form of residual energy, which lead me to theorize that whatever caused the separation of the Ronoak's nacelle was not technological. An absolute void of any trace energy should mean that whatever sheared the nacelle was biological, alive."
Smith listened intently to the Vulcan's straightforward report without much reaction... until he heard "should". A word insinuation uncertainty in a theory was not something one often heard from any Vulcan, let alone Savot. Just as he opened his mouth to question that, Savot seemed to predict his line of thinking and continued his report to address the discrepancy.
"However, there is further evidence to support another possible theory. I also conducted a scan of the nacelle's coils themselves, along with its entire inner workings. The nacelle itself was also entirely devoid of any energy traces whatsoever. Which, while reasonably sensible considering its separation from the vessel's primary power sources, the machinery should still have had detectable traces of energy flowing through the mechanism." Savot looked almost disappointed that he couldn't nail down a more specific possibility, but he concluded his report and took his station nonetheless.
"Which means, the slicing of the nacelle could indeed have been performed by a biologic, while the energy traces of the nacelle were drained away by the strings. However, given the report of Commodore Loskene's experience aboard the Jefferson, and the possibility of the nueral energy of the Ronoak crew being absorbed into the strings, there is more evidence to support the possibility that an energy weapon did in fact remove the nacelle, and all traces of the energy from the weapon were likewise absorbed. I regret I cannot be more certain at this time. I shall endeavor to focus my search at my station." And with that he sat down at his console. As he did so it seemed as though Agalacticae could somehow sense he was disappointed, and the Navigator laid his hand onto the Vulcan's shoulder for an instant in support. Savot turned to face his comrade, gave a deep nod as if in understanding, and the two then bent to their work to try and nail down what was happening.

OOC: Welcome to the joint mission Mr. Fos! My compliments on your introduction post! It shows that you must have updated yourself on our mission so far and you have already incorporated details into your first post. Great work! (…and don’t worry about your English!)
With regard to the strings…we don’t really know what they are yet…until someone comes up with something... What we know so far: 1. On the normal viewscreen they can only be observed indirectly by not looking at the viewscreen directly (the sensitivity of the human eye being greater from an angle) 2. When EM-waves are directed at them, they energize the waves into particles 3. They move on trajectories, similar to orbits around a star 4. They seem to exert a strong gravitational force on objects in their vicinity 5. Apparently the Ronoak had an encounter with one of these strings cutting up their nacelle <<USS El Salvador, Bridge>> Shortly after Savot’s report Agalacticae held his breath as yet another shuttle appeared in the system, heading towards the ships. As the Jefferson and El Salvador hadn’t had a chance to investigate whether there also were strings behind them, the shuttle could well be in immediate danger. Being aware of that fact, the shuttle was requested to stop by the Jefferson only moments after it entered the system.
Comparing his data of the string trajectories and the shuttle’s position Agalacticae wondered how the gravitational field of those strings would affect the much smaller shuttle. Observing the shuttle for a few moments he noticed that it was slightly drifting to its side and forward…
Agalacticae: “Captain, requesting permission to turn the ship to aide the arriving shuttle!”
Smith: “Reason being?”
Agalacticae: “We know about the strings ahead of us, but not behind us, we need to see whether the shuttle is in danger…”
Smith realizing the possibly dangerous situation for the two men inside the shuttle, immediately gave the orders to turn and opened a communication channel to the Jefferson.
=/\= Smith to Jefferson. Turn around and begin emitting EM waves close to the location of the shuttle =/\=
As soon as both ships had turned and started to emit the waves into the space surrounding the shuttle, Pasek who figured out Smith’s plan in an instant told the pilot of the shuttle to use his normal sensor to see the particle streams resulting from the excitation of the EM waves.
Unraveling that part of space another string was detected heading slowly but steady toward the shuttle, which also explained the slight drifting toward the front and left, forcing the shuttle engage its engines and escape the gravitation field…
=/\= Jefferson to Antare’s Ray. Engage your engines and try heading to our shuttle bay…NOW! =/\=OOC: Well, noone knows how the strings gravitational field will affect the shuttle, but my guess is that our new ensign will make it safe to the Jefferson?

OFF: I apoligize for my absence as well I've been busy. Mission-wise: I'm going to try to move things along, we're sort of stuck on the science thing.
BTW: Welcome Mr. Fos!
ON:
Aral watched as the doctor calmly took Loskene out of the bridge. He shook his head with a grim smile, he knew Loskene would be arguing to the bitter end when she declared him unfit for duty. Aral thought off-handedly that he should have known by now not to argue with a doctor.
"Mike, how's it going over there?"
"I'm just trying to keep track of these strings... they're amazing."
"Don't concentrate too hard, man, we don't need the room doing the limbo in your head again."
"I'll try." Mike said without looking up.
"This is Delta-flyer 'Antares' Ray' of Starbase Conqueror, requesting permission to land on the USS Jefferson." Blared through the ships comm system.
Cmdr. Matthew turned so quickly Aral heard the FO's neck crack, "Wha… What?! Antares' Ray: CUT YOUR ENGINES IMMIDEATELY! Do you hear me? Stop! Don't move, don't approach us! Did you copy? Stand still!"
Aral was amazed by the urgency in the commander's voice. He didn't think that it was that big of a deal. The bridge was silent before a response came through.
"USS Jefferson? This is Ensign Dimítrij Fos, your new COO. What is happening? What is danger?" It was a different voice this time. It sounded more youthful than the first. Aral jumped at what the voice said. He hadn't been informed that they were receiving any new officers. He was even more suprised that the shuttle had followed them way out here.
Calmly, Aral opened another transmission and spoke slowly to contrast his superiors urgency, "We cannot tell you exactly," He looked strangely at commander Matthews, "but there're something like energy waves in space, they're on regular orbits. You are in safety where you are, and we do not recommend you to come closer. We know their trajectories, you don't. Wait for instructions on your position."
Aral ended the communication and then looked over at Naeli, who was also looked perplexed by the commanders response.
"Xio, could you send the trajectories over to the delta flyer?"
"Yessir." She said briskly and once Mike had transmitted them to her console she sent it to the Antares' Ray.
"Antares' Ray, did you receive?"
"Yes, we are coming in closer." The small ship responded before, "We are docking in port 3. 5-4-3-2-1." There was a small boom sound.
"Welcome onboard the Jefferson, stow your luggage in your quarters and then report to the bridge!" Aral said.
Shortly after that series of events Mike was looking tense.
"They're starting to shift quickly. It's hard to keep track off. They're huge, these strings are! There is several close to the Jefferson and the El Salvador. If we come into direct contact with them who knows what'll happen!"
"Navigate away from the danger, Ensign Naeli!" Matthews ordered.
"I'm trying sir... but there is too many!"
"They're coming closer!" Mike shouted.
"I can't avoid them." Despite the statement the young woman continued to try.
"I'm sending a transmission to the El Sal!" Aral shouted and sent a distress message. He received one back rather quickly. The El Sal was also being surrounded.
"Brace for impact!!!" Mike yelled and gripped the sides of the console. Aral followed suit. Suddenly a huge impact came and the next thing Aral knew he was laying flat on his back.
As he staggered to his feet everything looked weird. The colors were off, and the veiwscreen didn't show any stars, instead it was a greenish haze. As soon as he saw Mike get up he sent a message to the El Sal, who was drifting beside them.

«Uff, we made it!» Olav leaned back.
=/\= Welcome onboard the Jefferson, stow your luggage in your quarters and then report to the bridge! =/\= The two men heard a voice from the comm.
«I like hospitality!» Olav looked like relaxed after a big stress. Dimítrij understood him well – not every day you're bringing a new officer to his ship and getting in such a situation, when the danger is around, but what and where…
«Thank you for the transport» Dimítrij said, buckling the sheath with his sword to his belt again. «I think that it will be better to you to remain here… Until this all will be finished.»
«Of course! Did you think that I'll return to that mad place so soon? Oh, no!» The pilot waved his hands as he was driving something off himself.
Dimítrij smiled and took his suitcases. «By the way, if it will be long, you may stay in my quarters, Olav.»
«No, thanks, I'd better stay with my dear pile of junk» the pilot carefully touched the control panel.
Dimítrij opened the door and was going to get out of the shuttle. «Interesting, why most of the pilots call thier vessels «a pile of junk» even if it is in an excellent status?..» he thought and made a step forward.
At this time the whole ship shruggled as she at least collided with a planetoid surface. Dimítrij was thrown back into the cockpit, his both suitcases fell on him.
«What the?..» he sweared while getting from under the luggage.
«No-o, that's too much for one hour!» Olav murmured. He remained in his seat only because of luck.
«I should go. Good luck… to us all» Dimítrij said, taking his suitcases again, but then put them back. «Damn the suitcases! Olav, would you be so kind to look after it? Thank you!..» and he disappeared in the doors.
«That's funny, very funny…» Olav sighed. «At least i'll not leave this ship till we arrive at any starbase!»
At this time Dimítrij was running to the nearest turbolift. He left the shuttlebay, stopped in the middle of the corridor, then noticed a plan of the deck. He was not well familiar with the Sovereign's architecture. He ran into the turbolift, using the wall of it as a brake, and ordered: «Deck one, bridge!» He counted every second while lifting up. He didn't know what's happening, but he supposed that nothing good. Now it was his ship – partially – and he was going to everything he could. At last, the door opened. Dimítrij ran into the bridge and saw that he was not prepared to that impact worse that the people on the bridge…
«Ehm… Ensign Dimítrij Fos reporting for duty, sir!» he reported. He saw that his new crewmen was looking at him a bit surprised – a tall dark haired man with moustaches, disheveled hair, ardent eyes (it's because of hurry and the situation;-)) with the phaser on the right side of his belt, and the sword on the left side… OFF: yeah, it's hot here! ;-) By the way, would you be so kind to introduce everyone who's on the bridge, 'cause I don't know…
About the sword. That's its description: The sheath was covered with red silk with stylized images of golden dragons of East. It was Chinese Dan-Gyen, a narrow straight double-edged sword with flexible blade – a weapon that illustrated main principles of Aikido and Zen-Buddhism. Never act against the enemy’s force. Though the blade was a bit flexible, it was not weak. It was even harder to brake it, more exactly – impossible. The blade was made of specially enforced steel, it was light and firm. The both planes were decorated with a complicated pattern. There also was a blue brush on the end of a shaft. On the blade, near the shaft, there were words «Небесная Молния». <Nёbёsnaja Molnija, «Sky Lightning»>.
It's a present of Dimítrij's Aikido teacher – for great achievements. It's not in a luggage, because of some situation happened on SB Conqueror. You can see another sword of this type in a movie «Crouching tiger, Hidden dragon». It was a stolen sword of Moo Bai, «Green Fate», as I remember. PS: Haven't I "loaded" you too much in my first posts?..

OFF: Post changed to comply wiht Pasek's following post!
Soon after Mr. Fos had arrived on the Jefferson something started to change, the strings that so far had been orbiting started closing in on the starships. Amazed by what he saw Agalacticae initiated evasive maneuvers right away at the same time receiving a distress signal from the Jefferson. Unable to follow what was happening with the Jefferson, having his hands full to avoid the string hitting the El Salvador he made the ship twist and turn to move away from the “spider web” that was closing in on them.
Agalacticae: “Everyone brace for a few spins!”
The words had barely left the pilot’s mouth as he made the El Salvador dive at great speed, turning along its long axis to get enough momentum to suddenly turn away from the strings. Those strings moved not randomly but tried to predict the El Sal movements, making avoiding them harder after each move.
Agalacticae loved taking the ship to its limit testing out the modifications Strife had done to the navigational systems. Apparently they worked quite well, giving most of the crew a thorough shake, probably making a few of them sea-sick, just like in the old days, when ships were sailing on water…
Just when they thought they were clear of everything an aberrant string hit the El Salvador, afflicting the same damage as on the Jefferson…

OOC: Nice to see everybody back again. We're gonna rock this mission! ;D And a special hello to Mr. Fos. It's been about time we got a COO. Glad to have you. ;D As for introducing, I'm Lt. Cmdr. Michael Pasek and I'm the CScO. Oh, and about your English, don't worry, I'm one of those who checks his spelling in Word. ;D IC: The El Sal reported back with the same damage that the Jefferson crew observed. The screen was fried and the coloration strange but, surprisingly enough, everything else was intact. Mike scaned the surounding area for any more surprises and, to his disapointment there were a lot of surprises coming. At this moment it was perfectly the same staying here or going further in. They would get it either way, and moving might evcen help because it means changing position and maybe avoiding some of those strings. And besides, Mike's inner scientist was very courious about what's inside the phenomenon. As the repairs vere underway Mike headed down to sickbay and ran his plan by Loskene from the beginning to the end, with all the things already done and those that needed doing."Well then, sir, what do you suggest we do?", Mike said, trying to cut in between the doctor and Loskene who were still fighting over Loskene's living the sickbay. "We're certainly not getting anywhere just sitting, here. We'll just have to head in side and try our luck and try to find the Ronoak. ", Commodore said getting down from the biobed. "Hold it.", the doctor stopped him, "Maybe the ship's going somewhere, but you are not going anywhere." "But...", Loskene tried to get out of the grip of this boa constrictor we call doctor. "No buts about it.", said doctor pushing Loskene back down onto the biobed. "But I have to give the order for departure.", said Loskene trying to get up again. "That's what the comm system and your FO are for.", said the doctor in response. The expression on the doctor's face made it clear that he's not giving up without a good fight. Just as Loskene tried another attempt to save his life, Mike cut in: "I should get back on the bridge and monitor the situation, sir." "Oh, of course, Mr. Pasek.", said Loskene, "By all means, dismissed." Mike turned and headed for the door. He was glad not to be in Loskene's skin right now. As he left sickbay and the doors closed behind him, the last thing he heard was: "But, doctor..." Making his way to the bridge, Mike thought about the situation and tried to remember where he heard about this sector before. ¤ I know it from somewhere, I know I do. ¤ he thought to him himself as he entered the turbolift ¤ Sector 984... 984... ¤ The next minute the door opened and Mike was on the bridge. The motion of the door reminded Mike of Loskene's idea about the strings. They might as well be the gateway between the two universes. ¤ They are powerful enough to be black holes, why wouldn't they be a door between two dimensions ¤ he thought to himself preparing his station for their entry into the phenomenon. =/\= Telak, Tomora, this is Pasek. Is everything ready down there. =/\= =/\= Everything ready, sir. The teams are on standby. =/\= =/\= Same at Tomora's. The search teams are ready. =/\= Mike was ready just as Cmdr. Matthew started giving orders, in accordance with Loskene's instructions: "Ms. Naeli take us in, course and heading as planed. Tactical and science, monitor everything and keep your eyes open." The bridge went silent and the Jefferson started entering the phenomenon, with Mike being very happy because everything was as planed. ¤ Few minutes later ¤ Mike was at his station just as Ms. Naeli made another course adjustment to avoid another string. They crossed over 5 string trajectories with ease already with no sign of trouble or problems. It was to good to last. Just as Ms. Naeli prepared to make another turn both Mike's and Aral's console started beeping and lights flickering like mad. "What's going on?", Cmdr. Matthew asked. "I'm picking up a ship ahead and some strange fluctuations in one of the strings." "Helm, full stop.", said Cmdr. Matthew, "Can you tell us anything more specific?" Just as Mike was about to answer the energy readings of the fluctuating string went through the roof and a ship appeared, like he was coming out of the string. "Sir, something just popped out of the string!", said Mike who's sentence was quickly topped by Aral, "It's a ship!" "Visual! Visual!", yelled the FO as the screen showed a strange looking ship. "I never saw anything like that.", said Aral and Mike added, "Neither have I." The ship wasn't big, probably the size of a Romulan Bird of Prey, but it's appearance and design were totally different from anything anyone on the bridge ever saw. Suddenly, along the edges of the ship's "wings" two blue fields appeared, following the wings curved outer line. "What's that?", said the FO but before he could get an answer Aral interrupted, "It's coming right at us." "Shields.", said the FO while Mike tried to get any useful information about that ship's configuration. The only thing he could find out was that that blue thing was some kind of a strange energy field. Aral quickly tried to raise the shields, but it was to late. The ship was already close and the only thing that saved was the Jefferson's nacelle was Naeil's quick reaction. She managed to turn the ship using a manoeuvring thrusters burst that almost blew the thrusters up but the ship, that was probably gonna take the whole nacelle off, managed to get only a peace of the Bussard collector. ¤ Meanwhile, in sickbay ¤ Loskene was trying to get of the biobed as a sharp pain in his head made him jump almost to the sealing. With an almost animal cry he laid back down, cramping, twisting and turning frantically on the biobed. The doctor was close by so he took out his tricorder and scanned Loskene. "His telepathic lobe is at it again!", he yelled to his team in the back. They ran quickly by Loskene's side and held him down as the doctor prepared a tranquilliser hipospray, but just as the doctor was about to inject it, Loskene stopped and laid down totally calm with his eyes wide open. After a short moment of silence he just said: "They're here." ¤ Back on the bridge ¤ The ship attacking the Jefferson now tried his luck again but the crew saw what happened earlier. As the ship approached the Jefferson fired and hit it with a phasor shot. There was no way of telling if the ship was damaged or not, but the ship turned and hit one of the strings and disappeared just as it appeared a moment ago. Everything on the Jefferson was calm again, except for the mark on Mike's station that indicated the other ship. The FO turned and asked: "And the other one?" Mike scanned the ship immediately and was relived to see the scans came back friendly. With a sigh of relief he said: "It's the Ronoak, sir. And it's intact, except for the nacelle." The relief was obvious on everybody's face. The FO sat back into his chair and relaxed: "And biosigns?" Mike scanned the ship and rescanned it again but he wasn't happy about the results at all. "Sir,...", he said, "None." OCC: Well, Aral, you said we needed a brake from technobabble, here it is. ;D I think I managed to give something to everybody. And sorry for all the OOC's in this post, I'm just glad you're all back. ;D And just so everybody knows, Agalacticae is a really great guy for letting me keep my post. ;D

Loskene sat up on the bio bed trying to keep himself together. The images in his mind were more vivid, he could see things very clearly.
Doctor: Sir, I insist you lie down.
Loskene: The Ronoak... It's still intact?
=^=Matthew to sickbay! Commodore, we have some news-=^=
Loskene: You have found the Ronoak...
Matthew: ...Well, yes sir we have.
Loskene: Life signs?
Pasek: I'm unable to get any readings sir. They are being disrupted. Some kind of alien craft is beside the Ronoak.
Gibson: Wait a minute--What's happening? The alien craft dissapeared... What happened to it?
Loskene: It's still there, don't be fooled... Let's get closer to the Ronoak.
Matthew: Sir, can you sense anything?
Loskene: .... I... I don't know. I feel something... There are still people on board the Ronoak. But something is wrong...They are wrong...
Pasek: There's got to be a way to scan the Ronoak...
Loskene: I hope so. Because the alternative could be less then ideal.

Dimítrij was sitting in his armchair and tried to concentrate on his work. It was so… Unexpectable! He just left his friend and love far behind him, got to his new ship, and just right after he arrived such things happened! He tried to throw away form his mind everything that was not necessary now.
Only three things were very curious for him for the moment. Where they were: in their universe or not (he just got familiar with the theories of Jefferson's crew), whose that mysterious ship was and why he had not fired back, and how to help Ronoak's crew.
«Interesting, interesting…» he murmured to himself and then turned to Matthew. «Sir, I wonder why that ship didn't fired back, and why they had cut off the Ronoak's nacelle leaving the ship intact. There must be something…»
The FO looked at Dimítrij with interest, but said nothing as he said «continue».
«I suppose that these aliens are interested in us alive, but… Captain says that he feels these people, but our scanners cannot detect them. Maybe we're looking for the wrong thing?»
«What d'you mean?» asked Michael Pasek, as Dimítrij remembered, CscO of the ship.
«I mean… Maybe, these creatures put them in a condition more deep than stasis… We're looking for the lifesigns. But can we get them if, for example, a man lies in a cryobed? Barely. Or even won't get any signs.» Dimítrij continued.
«I see…» Michael fell to thinking «What do you suggest?»
«I suggest… Ehm…» Dimítrij hadn't any specific suggestions. Suddenly an idea came to him «Yes! I've got it! When a man, or a vulcan, or everyone, can stay alive?»
«When he's not harmed…» Pasek replied, it looked like he was starting to guess what Dimítrij wants.
«Yes. When his body, every cell – almost every, of course, it's about the neural system – of his body is intact and on it's place. We should scan the Romoak for the physical objects, which have human's – and all races were onboard Ronoak – form and such structures inside, which fully coincide by shape and location with organs. Of course, we won't be able to say if their brain structures all right or, for example, their memory is erased, or som'thing like this… I hope no…» he finished in a whisper.
«And we have to get closer, or I will never get my readings back!» Mike said, tapping his console.
Commander Matthew looked at the viewscreen (it just cleared from haze, they could see the Ronoak without… Both nacelles!) with tension and ordered: «Ms. Naeli, take us closer. Mr. Gibson, be prepared to fire. These damned aliens cut off both hers nacelles…»
«Aye, aye» almost simultaneous answer followed from both officers.
The ship slowly started to approach the Ronoak. They passed another string, Dimítrij was monitoring the ship's status. Nothing unusual. The tension and silence covered the bridge.
«Where's that ship?» Xio asked looking over the viewscreen. Really, they saw no trace of it.
«That's not smells good.» noticed James Matthew with agitation. «Keep your eyes open. Mr Pasek, what do you see?»
«Wait a bit… Nothing… Oh, yes, something. They're there. All intact.» Pasek reported, a sigh of relief spreaded over the bridge.
«They all are… In sickbay, as I can see from here! But in standart scan I've got no lifesigns.» Pasek continued.
Righ at that moment the alien ship appeared just in front of Jefferson.
«Red alert!» Matthew yelled.
But the ship did not attacked again, it just was hanging in space in front of Jefferson, his bridge (if to suppose that structure on the upper part of hull was the bridge) to Jefferson's bridge.
«I don't like like this» Matthew murmured.
«Sir!» Dimítrij looked at his console «I looks like they… Sort of scanning us, but I've never seen such type of scanners. The beams are narrow, very narrow… They're scanning us! At this moment they're scanning commander Pasek… Now… Now me…»
The crewmen exchanged glances with one another.

The crew was standing still on the bridge as the ship reappeared and started scanning the crew. "Wait. It moved from me to you, sir.", said Fos rechecking his scans. The bridge was still for another moment as the scanner moved again to Xio. "I had enough of this.", said Cmdr Matthew, "Raise shields." "Shields up.", said Aral as he raised the shields but then Ens Fos gave a remark that was extremely disturbing, "No effect." "What?", asked the FO, clearly not believing his ears. "No effect, sir.", repeated Fos, "The scan continues, as strong as before." Just as a murmur went through the crew, regarding the power of these scanners, a swirling light appeared around Mike, slowly making him disappear. "Mike!", yelled Aral at the same time the FO shouted, "Pasek!" But before anyone could do anything, in a blink of an eye, Mike was gone. "Mr. Fos, where is he?", said Matthew very disturbed. "He is... gone.", said Ens Fos having no idea what happened, "Only thing I could tell you is that that was probably a transporter, a very powerful one." "A transporter?", said Matthew, "And where was he taken?" Fos looked at his console and back at the FO and said: "I wish I knew."

Max Power was enjoying his pickle the crewmember brought back for him. "Hmm. Delicious." Suddenly the ship moved violently a number of times over a course of few minutes. He checked the recent status of the ship with the computer.
"Lovely chap that computer is" Max thought to himself as he read the readings. The ship had all most ripped off their Nacelle. "That wasn't very nice of them" Max thought to himself.
All things considering, there was nothing special cutting off the Warp Nacelle's. All it would render the ship unable to travel at Warp speed. Impulse drives and thrusters would still be able to work, with a bit of repair to the ship. Reading up on the strings, Mr. Power realized something.
"Computer, create a simulation of the USS Jefferson moving through this sector over the pass 30 minutes"
After a few minutes, the computer had it up on the screen. "Thank you computer. There will be a pie in this for you." Max said. A few crewmembers looked at him in confusion.
Crewmember "Pie?"
Max "Yes. Pie. Pie, pie, pie, pie, pie, pie, pie!"
Crewmember "Um...ok sir!"
Max Power was thinking of pie. The simulation was running one the console and all he saw was pie. "Maybe the aliens wanted to eat the ship." Max thought to himself.
Max to crewmember "Is it possible to eat a ship for lunch?"
Crewmember "Um...no. Sir, are you feeling ok?"
Max "Quite fine."
Max went back to the simulation. "Computer, what would happen if an alien ship ate this ship like pie?"
Computer "Insufficient information. Please rephrase your question"
Max "computer, in the simulation, increase the speed of the Jefferson to Warp 1. What would the result be?"
Computer "Insufficient evidence to perform conclusion."
Max "What if the strings were pie?"
Computer "The ship would travel normally through space at Warp speed 1."
Max "What if the strings were trans-dimensional?"
Computer "Insufficient evidence to perform conclusion."
Max "What evidence would you need?"
Computer "Unable to recognize line of questioning."
Max "That’s it! No pie for you!" Max shouted at the computer, before heading off to another console.
Max "Run simulation again"
Sure enough, there was the Jefferson. Everything from entering the system right up till 2 minute ago.
Max "Computer, what would happen if the ship were to travel at Maximum warp through those strings?"
Computer "Unable to determine. More information is required.
Max "Lets say...the strings were a miniature black hole to a trans-dimensional universe. Each string had the same characteristics of a black hole."
Computer "The ship would be destroyed."
Max "What if the Jefferson headed straight at a string at Maximum Warp?"
Computer "The ship would disappear into the string, unable to determine any damage to the ship"
Max "BINGO! Bingo! B-I-N-G-O...B-I-N-G-O and BINGO WAS HIS NAME-O! Thats B-I-N-G-O...B-I-N-G-O oh and BINGO WAS HIS NAME-O! BREAK IT DOWN! YEAH!" Max started getting excitied when crewmemebers looked at him strangly. "Join in!" he said.
Soon, 5 crewmembers and max were dancing and singing "B-I-N-G-O...B-I-N-G-O and BINGO WAS HIS NAME-O!" Before Max got hungry and stopped.
Max headed to the replicator "One hot apple pie please"
The replicator produced the apple pie. "Nice chap that replicator" Max thought to himself as he forwarded his findings to Mr. Matthew, since Pased had dissapeared.
Max =/\= Ensign Max Powers to Commander Matthew =/\=
Matthew =/\= Commander Matthew here =/\=
Max =/\= I forwarded some findings onto you. It might be able to help us enter the strings. All I need to know is what speed the alien ship entered and left the strings. =/\=
Matthew =/\= All right Ensign. I will look into it. Matthew out =/\=
Max sat down at his Engineer desk as he started eating his pie.
Max "Pie is goooooood!"

Better get the El Salvador back into business! <<USS El Salvador, Bridge>> Following the Jefferson’s lead deeper into the supposed center of the strings, it became more and more difficult to avoid the strings. Deciding to increase the distance between the two ships to increase maneuverability, the El Salvador was surprised by the report they got from the Jefferson a little later.
=/\= We have encountered some sort of ship…it just tried to attack us =/\=
Looking somewhat bewildered at each other, everyone’s eyes turned towards Savot. Looking up from his console he could only say.
Savot: “I don’t detect anything on the sensor, either the ship is undetectable or the strings somehow interfere with our sensor, maybe the same way like the strings…”
Having to make a quick decision Smith ordered the Agalacticae to increase speed to possibly be able to assist the Jefferson…
Smith: “Mr. Agalacticae, get us closer to the Jefferson as fast as possible…but by any means, avoid the strings…”
Following his orders, passing yet another string trajectory they could just see the alien ship make a second run at the Jefferson. The ship appeared cold and dangerous, yet beautiful in some ways…
Smith: “Target that ship…and fire at my command”
The Jefferson got a nice shot at the ship, but no one was able to determine whether any damage was done to the vessel. Waiting for the alien ship to gain some distance from the Jefferson before firing their weapons, Smith was surprise to see the ship simply disappear into one of the strings…
=/\= Smith to Jefferson – are you alright? =/\=
=/\= Yes, sir, thanks to our navigators skills, we kept our nacelle…but we would like you to stay a little closer to us, just in case… =/\=
=/\= Agreed, Smith out =/\=
Closer to each other the two ships passed yet another few string until suddenly a ship was detected by both ship’s sensor.
Smith/Matthews: “Red alert”
Although on each ship, the two ships raised their shields almost simultaneously only to discover that they had found the Ronoak! At first a sigh of relief could be felt on both ships. For finding the Ronoak but also for staying clear of that other ship. The Jefferson still being the lead ship they started scanning the Ronoak for life signs, the El Salvador following their progress staying in at some distance in visual range from the ships.
Smith: “Be alert, everyone, we are the Jefferson’s back-up!”
The Captain has barely spoken these words, when the alien ship appeared once again. Menacing and cruel it came closer to the Jefferson…no intentions of attacking, just looking at the ship, like two beasts staring directly into each other’s eyes.
Smith: “Red alert – everyone prepare for attack!”
Seconds passed like they were an eternity, with the two ships facing each other. Even as the El Salvador started moving closer, nothing changed, as if the alien vessel didn’t even notice or care about the Prometheus-class starship…
The silence was only broken by a frantic voice from the Jefferson’s FO.
=/\= Matthews to El Salvador, they are scanning us and just seemed to have abducted our CScO Michael Pasek =/\=
As soon as Pasek had disappeared from the Jefferson’s bridge the alien ship turned and shot like an arrow into one of the strings, too fast to even get a single phasor-shot at it, disappearing from everyone’s sight.
Harrias who had come to the same conclusion as the Jefferson’s engineer, following Max Power’s simulations, immediately informed Captain Smith of the possibility. With Loskene in sickbay the El Salvador’s CO was the one to decide what should happen next and only seconds after Harrias’ message he informed the Jefferson.
=/\= El Salvador to Jefferson. This is Captain Smith. Proceed recovering the Ronoak, we are going after your CScO, by that hopefully also keeping the alien ship busy for you to do your work! El Salvador out =/\=
Smith: “Well, Mr. Agalacticae, we have a theory to prove…adopt the alien vessel’s speed at entry into the string and *he took a deep breath* follow it!”
Agalacticae’s fingers gently caressed his navigation console until he engaged the engines, entering the string with the four warp nacelles ablaze, like an avenging angel diving into the uncertainty of hell…
Thus the El Salvador disappeared from the Jefferson’s sensors…
