Loskene looked around the bridge.
“Helm, set course. Head into the Nebula. Half impulse.”
After giving the order, he sat down in his Command chair.
“Captain, do you believe that is such a good idea? I think the logical course of action would be for us to completely examine all sensor records of the nebula from a safe distance, in order to try and find a solution to the radiation problem we currently face.”
“If I didn’t think it was the best course of action, I wouldn’t have given the order, Commander. I get the feeing that if we’re inside the nebula, we will be safe from the radiation. It’ll solve one of our problems, on the short term anyway. And remember why we’re here in the first place, to study the nebula. What better way to do that than to get in the middle of it.”
The Vulcan First officer looked, as if she was about to argue the point further with the Commodore, but then decided against it.
The helm officer informed the CO that the course was laid in, and then after being ordered to, engaged the ship on its course.
“The radiation level is continuing to increase, but the rate of increase is growing the closer we get to the Nebula, Sir”
The new Ops officer said.
“We will penetrate the nebulas perimeter in 30 seconds,”
Cavit called over her shoulder.
“The radiation levels will reach fatal exposure in 25 seconds,”
Mc7_of_9 said, after the helm officer reported there e.t.a. to the nebula.
A tense 20 seconds passed
“Radiation levels are falling, Sir!”
With that comment, Loskene breathed a sigh of relief.
Outside the ship
The ship pierced the dark, rolling clouds that formed the nebula like a scalpel cutting skin, cleanly and without any nonsense.
Back on the Bridge
“We’re now inside the nebula, Commodore. Shall we keep going, or hold position at the edge?”
“Continue to the centre of the nebula, Ensign.”
“Sir, I’m picking up some strange readings. I’m reading a large mass ahead of us. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that it’s a planet. But I’ve never heard of a planet inside a nebula like this before.”
Aral informed the rest of the Bridge.
“Try and increase the sensor resolution and see if you can get better scans of the mass out there. Helm, all stop. I don’t want to run the risk of running into something!”
And with that order, the ship came to a halt.
Time passed as all the Bridge officers tapped away at their consoles, trying to get a better understanding of their current situation.
“I’ve got the best resolution I’m going to be able to get us, Sir,”
Lt Pasek told the CO.
“On screen then.”
And then a blurry image appeared on the main viewer. Despite the blurriness of the image, a planet was clearly identifiable.
OCC: I had intended to pout more in, ie, another plot twist, but when i looked @ it, I thought this was logn enough! hehe. Aral, don't know if you maybe wanna take over, maybe do the bit we spoke about, so it's a little more broken up.

Mike returned to the bridge with no interesting information about the probe. The probe was badly damaged but there was no clue to what caused the damage. Mike looked at the screen and saw the planet. Then it came to him. The destroyed probes, the strange radiation, the growing nebula. Mike had a few crazy ideas about the nebula but he never thought that the craziest of them all would be the correct one. The pieces and clues they found so far fitted his nuts idea perfectly but the biggest question was yet to be answered. Mike rerouted all the power he had at his disposal and narrowed the sensor band to scan just the planet in front of them. The data still didn’t appear complete, due to the interference but the info that he got from the sensors were enough to make him realize the truth. With a stutter in his voice, he addressed his captain:
“Sir, you are never gonna believe this… but I think I know what is going on here. ”
“Tell us then, Mr. Pasek.”
“I think you should see this first.”, Mike responded and separated the main screen into to parts, one bigger and one smaller in the corner. On the small screen Mike displayed the data he received. A diagram of the planet that appeared showed the surface and the inside of the planet in cross-section. Apparently in side the planet were some kind of thick lines.
“And what is that?”, asked the captain.
Mike enlarged the picture so the details in the lines could be seen. The lines, when enlarged appeared to be made like lathers, with three vertical and numerous horizontal bars. The horizontal bars connected the vertical ones in such a way that the first was connected to the second and the second to the third.
“Sir, I believe these are chromosomes.”, Mike said and the whole bridge crew looked at the screen, probably thinking that Mike had gone completely crazy. The silence was broken by Commodore Loskene.
“Are you saying that were inside some kind of a ameba?”
“I know this sounds strange but that is what I concluded from all the clues at our disposal. I would be completely sure if I could collect a sample of the nebula and bring it on board to examine it.”
Loskene sat there for a minute not believing what he just heard. After a moment he told Mike.
“You can beam some of it into the lab, but be extra careful, we don’t know what this thing can do.”
Mike was overwhelmed with joy when he got the permission and he started beaming a small portion of the nebula on board. Aral, who was looking at him from the other side of the room, thought that Mike at that looked like one of those crazy scientists from old movies.
OCC: Hi people, just to let you know I’m following you. This was sent from my school computer so there is no reason to worry about that virus of mine.

Lt Cmdr Strife looked at the readings on the helm.. More or less worried that the ship was gonna move more than anything. She was going to ask Losekene if she could grab a drink untill a yomen came up behind her
"Can I get you a drink ma'am"? he asked
She was going to answer till she felt a hand touch her rump she smacked him with out question leaving a red mark as he left every on looked at him and notied a red hand print the looked like it was going to bruise
she was going to complain when the ship shuddered What in the name of---" Loskene said " Strife report"
"Sir .. umm this is going to sound funny .. but ..umm we just flipped" Striife was frowning and not happy that it happend before she could stop it
"Pasek, what was did it ? "

OFF: sorry this is short, i got to deal with some stuff.
On: Aral frowned. The nebula was a living parasite of some sort? Very very unusual.
He poured over the small amount of data they had extracted from the damaged probe. Nothing suggested what Mike was saying, but then again- as Gibson often said- Aral was no science officer.
But if one would believe everything Mike was saying some of the pieces fit together, how it had attacked the probe thinking it was trying to hurt it, how it was growing, and when you looked at the scans closely you would see every time it moved forward in one place another place would pull and retract inside as if it was moving by pseudopods, it would pull it self forward by extending a small part of itself out. The fact of the planet being inside it was the big thing that didn't fit into Mike's hypothesis.
Loskene seemed to be thinking along the same lines, "Very good suggestion, while your exploring the idea with the sample, we will send an away team down to the planet." He turned to his First officer, "Assemble a team."
"Yes, Commodore."
“Gibson, Cavit, Mc7_of_9, with me.’
ON THE PLANET
“My god it’s a wasteland.” Aral said surveying the open area of rock they had just beamed onto.

~This is getting more and more fascinating (and of sourse somewhat concerning) at the same time. I'd like to read the science results after this mission is over.~ T'Ale thinks to herself.
Just then the ship shuddered.

Strife looked at the waste land and covered her nose. "Gah it sticks"
T'Ale looked at Strife she hardly knew the navigator but to her she seemed to have spunk
"Commander Cavit your're with me" T'ale said
"yes ma'am" Cavit said
They went over to a near ridge and found some fungus that mached the nebula's properties."Ma'am think we should take this back to the ship? "

OFF: Ok, ok...uh, so lemme see if I get this straight. The planet is home to a large parasite, or are you all saying that the parasite is inside the planet or what? I'm catching on a little slow on this one ;D

OFF: Strife, by wasteland I meant like a bunch of bones and skeletons. But we can probaly still find that fungus you were talking about. Commodore, I think what Mike's getting at is that the Nebula is a parasite of somesort, and that the planet was enveloped into it. But talk to Mike- His 'mad scientist idea' not mine!lol
ON:
Aral took several steps, squinting at the ancient-like bones.....results of some sort of disaster. The light was very little, like a early evening on Earth, but somehow sun was getting through from the dense nebula.
"My god." Mc 7_of_9 muttered.
Strife breathed heavily in the cool air, her brow was creased with lines of distress, but she spotted something on the ground and crouched down, "."Ma'am think we should take this back to the ship?" She was pointing at a rock covered in some sort of fungus.
"Looks like the nebula strangely...." Aral commented while the FO knelt beside Cavit.
"Agreed, Mr. Gibson, Yes, Cavit, put a sample in the box." She handed the CNO a box, and Strife carefully placed a gump of the substance in a container.
"Alright, fan out. Cavit, your with me- You two take the other side." T'ale and Cavit started walking toward the far ridge of rocks, walking gingerly over the bones.
"Well, lets go then." Mc 7_0f_9 started going in the opposite direction of the two woman. Aral nodded and ran after him.
"God, whatever happened to these people...." Aral said as Mc 7_of_9 looked closely at some of the bones littering the ground.
"It must of been bad, we should be able to find out what happened.... Maybe a war, or a plague... but a war seems the most likely answer the way all the bones are in this close area..." Mc 7_of_9 said offhandidly.
Aral just nodded.

Commodore Loskene sat on the bridge, feeling a bit nervous as the "nebula" continued to pulsate.
The comm panel beeped and Loskene immediately answered it.
Voice: Sir, Ensign Willems of Stellar cartography here. We have found something very interesting on the surface I think you should see! Please, please come down!
Loskene: ...On my way, Ensign.
Loskene arrived in Stellar cartography. A large topograph of the planet appeared on the screen.
Willems: Very interesting, interesting indeed!
Loskene: What is it?
Willems: Take a look sir, please!
The officer enlarged a segment of the map and several raised structures appeared.
Loskene: What is that??
Willems: Well, it's a building! A huge building! It's over 4 miles tall!!
Loskene: My God...
Willems: No one alive there, no one. The building is a wreck, like the rest of the planet!
Loskene: How far is the away team from the structure?
Willems: They are just out of visible range! If they move a few more miles they should see a very large building that looks like it scrapes the sky! Incredible!
Loskene: I've gotta contact them.
=^=Loskene to away team come in...=^=
=^=Mc 7_of_9 here sir. Your not coming in too well...=^=
Loskene: Listen closely. We're going to beam you all a few miles east of your present location. There is something I want you to see.
Mc 7_of_9: Understood sir.
The transporter activated and the away team was transported to the location. Loskene heard several gasps over the comm channel.
Mc 7_of_9: ...Wow.
The away team raised there heads high and they still could not see the top of the large structure. A large clump of the building fell away and landed a few yards away from the team. A loud clanking sound was heard.
Loskene: Are you ok?
Mc 7_of_9: Yeah, we're fine... Sir...what do you want us to do...
Loskene: According to the scans there are very weak power readings in there... I would like you to check it out.
Mc 7_of_9: Doesn't exactly look safe... Just how old is this thing?
Loskene: ....The scans say over 1000 years old.
Aral Gibson: What??
Mc 7_of_9: Don't worry sir, we will check out the power source. Away team out.

The ground shook as the huge rock-like material hit the ground with a thunderous crash.
"Are you ok?" Loskene's voice sounded cracked through the static.
"Yeah, we're fine... Sir...what do you want us to do..." The ops officer pulled himself off the ground and offered Aral a hand up. Strife and T'ale were already on their feet.
Loskene seemed satisfied with his answer and continued, "According to the scans there are very weak power readings in there... I would like you to check it out."
Mc7_of_9 peered at the huge building in amazment and curiousity, "Doesn't exactly look safe... Just how old is this thing?"
" ....The scans say over 1000 years old." The commbadge stuttered.
Aral's eyebrows rose, "What??!"
"Don't worry sir, we will check out the power source. Away team out." Mc7_of_9 terminated the communication.
T'ale was examining the area around them, considering what they were all thinking about if the huge building fell ON them.
"There's no choice but to just go in." She said and led them all forward.
As they got closer Aral began noticing the strange carvings on the side of the building..... the only thing they slightly compared to was Ancient Egyptian art on Earth.
"Looks like this was made by a pre-warp civilization..... but how the hell did they build this thing.....?" Aral asked. No one answered but contemplated the question silently to themselves....

OCC: Just to clear everything up, I wanted to say that the nebula is somekind of a parasite, an amoeba if you want, and the planet, eventhgough it's solid, is the amoebas nucleus (just in case I misspeled it: the place where the cromosomes are). ;D
