Scene: Matt's quarters, Deck 7, USS JEFFERSON
Matt walked in slowly into his dark gloomy quarters. It had been a very long, draining day. Had it truly been an act by just one person? Could the Romulans be involved? Could he trust the Romulans to stay uninvolved? All the questions were running through his mind, but they all disappeared when he saw Caleb sitting on the couch reading.
All his doubts and questions flew out the window, when he saw his son. Matt knew that he would do anything for him; he would gladly die for Caleb. It was kind of unsettling how fast Caleb had become so important to Matt, it no longer mattered that he had adopted him just a few months ago. Caleb was his son and he would raise hell and brimstone to help him.
"Matt, everything is okay right?" Caleb asked looking at Matt.
"You always want to know everything don't you," Matt said matter of fact. Matt took of his uniform vest, got himself some water and sat at the table. While he was doing this Caleb's eyes just followed him like a hawk. He of course was still waiting for an answer.
Matt finally broke and answered him; he couldn't deny Caleb's curiosity, as long as it didn't hurt him.
"Yes Caleb, we found and fixed the problem," Matt said not wanting to go any further than that.
"Was it really Lt. Garcia?" Caleb asked like it was an everyday thing. Matt almost chocked on the water that he was drinking, after he wiped his face and the table he looked at Caleb.
"And where did you hear that from?" Matt asked.
"Well I heard some of the crewman's talking about it," Caleb said," I didn't mean to overhear them, but I couldn't help it."
"I bet you couldn't," Matt said chuckling. One day Caleb would get in trouble for his thirst for knowledge, but today was not the day.
"So is it true?" Caleb asked.
"Caleb I can't tell you right now, I don't know the entire story myself," Matt said truthfully. Once he had discovered that the threat was all over, he talked to Rin a bit and headed here.
"So we're going back to Assailant?" Caleb asked already knowing the answer.
"Yeah, we're going back," Matt said as he took of his shoes and stifled a yawn. He was dead tired, but of course Caleb was not.
"Man, I thought we would have been away a lot longer than that," Caleb said," last mission was exciting!"
"Last mission we all died," Matt responded as he entered his washroom.
"Yeah but that was cool, and we didn't," Caleb said as he turned on the replicated television Matt had given him.
"Have you done your homework?" Matt said drying off his face.
"Yep, all done," Caleb said," and I already brushed, washed, and even did a bit of extra work." Matt couldn't help but laugh, Caleb never did this alone. It was there ritual, but it seemed that Caleb had to keep himself busy until Matt returned.
"Caleb if you want we can go to a holodeck and have some fun," Matt said as he sat down to start meditating.
"Ok, will Rin be coming with us?" Caleb asked as he turned off the TV and joined Matt. Matt's concentration was lost at the question, but he realized that he shouldn't be surprised.
"If she wants," Matt said as he fixed Caleb's meditating position. Caleb had been trying to meditate with Matt for about two weeks, but each time Matt had finished he would find Caleb asleep on the floor.

(Bouncing between Billi and Rin)
[Bridge]
Rin stood out of the way, listening and listening to those on the bridge. The tension was high on the bridge, she could feel it, almost tangibly.
Billi stood near the turbolift, her hands clasped behind her back. She remained quiet, the small fire lizard on her shoulder chirping at all the activity around them.
Billi was nervous, nervous watching and waiting to see what Ambassador Kralok and Ambassador Tedak came up with. When he returned to the bridge, Tedak gave her a quick kiss, causing her to flush briefly before pulling herself together. Her eyes following him as he strode to the Lt. Cols. side.
[The Brig]
Once they were done talking Zhuk, and the three Ambassadors left the bridge heading for the brig. Rins heart was beating hard within as she stood outside the cell which housed the engineer that had been caught. Her mind was open, listening and hearing his thoughts as he and the Lt. Col. talked.
When he left the cell and the two other Ambassadors and he walked out of the brig, she followed slowly her head buzzing from all the conversation, both verbal and mental.
Ambassador Tedak stopped her as they stepped from the security area and asked. "What do is your opinion on this all?" he asked her, then thumbed in the colonel's direction, "and how would you have done this?"
“I’m not sure really Ambassador.” Rin asked quietly. She wasn’t a violent person, but knew that from time to time it was a necessary evil, so to speak.
[Bridge]
Billi let out a sigh as Tedak and the others returned to the bridge, noting Rins silence and seeming subdued nature. She smiled briefly as the small fire lizard which had been keeping her company hovered before her and then went to settle on Tedaks shoulder.
"I have some stories to tell you when we get off duty," Tedak whispered at Billi as he passed, "though I'm not certain you'll like all that I'll tell you."
She was sure she would not like what he had to share, especially from the look on Rins face.
[later]
Rin found herself in the arboretum, her thoughts were troubled by all that she’d experienced and felt over the last day or two. It had taken all she could muster to remain calm during the interrogation of the officer but one thing she would not show was weakness in front of the Klingon Ambassador.
Billi was back in sickbay, helping to clear out all those who could be released and settling those who couldn’t be. Once done there she was going to the holodeck for a nice quiet break from anything resembling work.

OOC: Garcia is just a crewman- not acommisioned officer.
IC: It had been a longer day for Jeff. the re routing was done, and the expected power surge would only do isolated damage. right after the surge, the ship would be out of main power for a second, but not long.
"ready sir." Mrack reported to him as he was sipping his tea.
"alright, I'll do this. I want you to restore power the instant that thing is shorted out. Clear?"
"absolutly. pity tedak and the klingon couldn't figure out a better way."
"At least they identified the object and told us what it was. That's as good as I could expect."
"right. you want to do the deed?"
"just give me a phaser."
Mrak handeed one right over, anticipating this one.
"Thanks. open the panel back up."
a crewmwember opened the panel to the relay.
"Stand back." Jeff announced, took aim, and fired. the suge of power worked, with a smal explosion, the device popped off. Jeff picked it up and rolled it in his hands. this tricorder sized peice of equipment had been able to bring the newest ship in Section 47 to it's knees. "Pudlo to Captian. It's off. The main systems have full power, and the relay is back online. give us an hour and we'll have warp back online." Behind Jeff, there were already crews rushing to get to the damaged power relays.
--------- In the turbo shafts, cars started moving agian, and those traped were able to step off for the first time since the beginning of the incident.

Scene: Matt's quarters, Deck 7, USS JEFFERSON Time: 0236 hours
The smell of charred skin and burned clothes permeated the air. The eerie cold of death surrounded everything in sight, and fear itself appeared.
Matt woke up with a scream, something he had not done in years. He immediately felt pain go through his body which emanated from his injured leg. Matt's body was drenched in a cold sweat, which made him look like he had just walked out of the shower.
"Matt, are you okay?" Caleb asked as he walked into Matt's room. This had been the third consecutive week of his nightmares. Only Caleb knew that he was having them, but he didn't know the entire story.
"Yes Caleb, I'm fine, don't worry about me," Matt said smiling at him. Caleb of course was not fooled, but did not say anything. He just brought Matt a glass of cold ice water. Matt immediately drank it and placed the glass next to his nightstand.
"Matt....you need to," Caleb started to say, but stopped. Matt was surprised when Caleb stopped talking. Matt lifted his head to see what was wrong and saw that Caleb was crying.
Matt immediately got off his bed and made his way towards Caleb picking him up.
"Don't cry, I'm okay really, just me being stupid," Matt said mad at himself for making Caleb scared.
"Matt, your not stupid!" Caleb said forcefully tears still falling down his face," somethings wrong, and you won't talk to me about it."
"Caleb, really there is nothing wrong, its just all the work lately," Matt said hoping that was the case. He honestly didn't know what the problem was, he just thought they were bad dreams.
"If you can't talk to me, you have to talk to someone," Caleb said wiping his tears away and asking to be put down. Matt put him down and sat down next to him. This was the first time that Caleb had cried and it hurt Matt so much.
"Caleb, when we get to Assailant I will talk to someone," Matt said making sure Caleb was looking at him," I promise."
"You better," Caleb said smiling at Matt," now can I watch some television?"
"No you still need to get some sleep," Matt said as he ruffled Caleb's hair. Caleb faked a groan, but quickly went to his room and to sleep.
Matt of course could not go to sleep, he was now damp and sticky. He would shower and then try to do some Susmana, he knew that he would not be able to sleep tonight. ----------------------------------
Time: 0745
Caleb did not speak of anything that had happened that morning. He would hold Matt accountable for what he had promised and he didn't have any intention of lying.
"Matt are we still gonna go to the holodeck?" Caleb asked," cause we don't have to."
"No we are, I said we would didn't I?" Matt said as he finished his toast.
"Okay, but you said you would invite Rin," Caleb said.
"I know I didn't forget," Matt said as he finished his toast and headed towards his computer.
"Computer send this message to Ambassador Rin Damis," Matt said. After hearing the beep of the computer and the click of the camera he began to speak.
"Hi Rin," Matt said winking at her,"..."
"No funny stuff," Caleb said in the background.
"Well Caleb and I were wondering if you would like to join us in the holodeck today, I have a couple of hours saved up and would like to spend some time with you. Please let me know when you get this. Oh and talk to you later."
Matt ended the message and continued with his breakfast.

Rin had spent a while in the arboretum, finally making her way back to her quarters. She let out a sigh seeing that she had a message waiting for her. Now who can that be. she wondered as she sat down and tapped the console. Smiling as she saw Matts features on the screen and heard his voice.
"Well Caleb and I were wondering if you would like to join us in the holodeck today, I have a couple of hours saved up and would like to spend some time with you. Please let me know when you get this. Oh and talk to you later."
She tapped the console and sent a message back to him. “Of course I would like to come, What time would you like me to meet you?”
Matt had just finished cleaning up the table when he received the message from Rin. As he read it, he couldn’t help but smile. Instead of making a new message he just tapped his combadge.
=^= How does 0830 hours sound? =^=
She smiled “That sounds wonderful. Want me to meet you there?” She wondered what sort of program they would be running.
“Yeah sure, Caleb and I are on our way right now,” Matt said as pushed Caleb out the door.
“Hey, I’m going, don’t rush me,” Caleb said smirking at Matt. He just winked at Caleb and kept on talking,” see you soon.”
Rin nodded “What sort of program will it be? What should I wear?” She asked glancing down at her uniform.
Matt would like her to wear as little as possible, but that of course would not be the case. Caleb would be there with them.
“I’m thinking something casual, and comfortable,” Matt said. He had not thought of the program just yet, and if something did come up he would just replicate something for everyone to wear.
Rin could almost hear his thoughts, having spent enough time with him to guess what he was thinking.
“Give me a ten minutes and I’ll meet you at the holodeck. Ok?” She knew what she would wear, hoping it would fit whatever the scenario. “Ok see you there,” Matt said. He was glad that Rin would be joining them and soon enough they had arrived at the holodeck.
“Matt, I want to go in,” Caleb said tugging on his shirt.
“Okay, you can go in, I’ll wait for Rin,” Matt said as he touched the panels on the holodeck,” Computer activated Matt Zodiac Beta Program.”
Caleb smiled at him and ran into the holodeck yelling and screaming. “Maybe I should give the holograms more patience,” Matt mused knowing that Caleb was most likely was going to raise hell.
Rin appeared a short time later, dressed in jeans and T-shirt, “I hope I’m dressed ok?” she asked stopping next to Matt. “What’s the program about?”.
“Oh you’re always dressed right,” Matt said as he gave Rin a quick kiss,” well this program has everything it has a park, beach, nature walk, and a lot of sun.”
Rin smiled and flushed at the kiss, returning it, her lips caressing his cheek. “I think I am going to like this program.” She motioned to the door. “Lead the way?”
Matt took her hand and led her into the program. It was filled with people of all races playing and having fun. Matt stopped for a second to see where Caleb was playing. When he saw that he was talking a holographic group of kids, he relaxed and led Rin to a more secluded part of the park. When they reached their destination, Matt took out a couple of towels and sat down.
“Sorry I haven’t been around lately,” Matt said as soon as Rin sat down.
Rin sat down and turned her attention to the children nearby. “We’ve both been busy Matt. I’m just glad we have a chance for this time.”
“Yeah so am I,” Matt said looking at Rin. He knew that she had been there with Col. Hrisvalar and Tedak, but he didn’t want to talk about that. He just wanted to talk to her about anything else.
“What were you doing before I called you?” Matt asked,” I checked your quarters, but you weren’t there.”
“I needed some time alone to rethink things.” She couldn’t tell him, couldn’t explain what she felt or was feeling, only knowing that she needed this time with him as much as he did.
Matt could feel her need for Matt to stop talking about this and so he changed the subject,” I was very proud of how you handled yourself with Kralok, I used to not even be able to talk to Klingons cause I was afraid of them.”
Rin settled next to him, allowing her body to rest against his. “Kralok is full of himself Matt, like most Klingons.” She smiled slightly. “You just have to hand him back the same thing he dishes out.”
“I thought all Klingons were exactly like him,” Matt said smiling from ear to ear,” plus I don’t think they use dishes. Aren’t they more of hands on type of people?”
Rin nudged Matt in the ribs. “Very funny.” She turned her attention to the scenery around her and smiled. “What else is in here?”
“Well there is a nature walk that leads to the base of a couple of volcanoes,” Matt said,” at the bottom of the volcanoes are some Hot Springs. Let me think what else is here….”
“Sounds wonderful, I would like to investigate this program more sometime.” Rin looked around her taking in the view.
"Well I'm liking the view right now,” Matt said staring at Rin’s beautiful features,” there are some recreational activities to do here too.”
“It sounds beautiful Matt.” Her cheeks flushing slightly.
“You know I love when you blush like that,” Matt said looking at her even more intently,” I just say things so that you will blush.”
“That’s unfair Matt and you know it.” She lay back staring at the sky above.
“Well you can’t fault me,” Matt said laying back with Rin,” you’re just too beautiful. Plus you don’t have to blush if you don’t want to.”
Rin just laughed and continued to look at the sky.
“Plus you could always try and make me blush,” Matt said in a fake taunting voice.
Rin shook her head. “I could tell you what is going on in your head Matt. That alone would make anyone blush.” Her eyes met his briefly as did her thoughts. “See what I mean.”
“Hey stay out of there,” Matt said blushing like a cherry,” its not my fault. Hey come on.” Matt took Rin by the hand and ran into the clearing in the woods. He knew that clearing would give them a bit more privacy. Matt gave her a soft sweet kiss on the lips before saying, “you are it.”
Rin allowed him to lead her to the small clearing. “You left yourself wide open for that Matt.” With that she tapped his shoulder and took off running. “Come on.”
“Hey I was supposed to have the advantage,” Matt laughed as he went after her. Matt knew that he could catch her easily and when he tried to actually catch her, Rin became even faster. “So she can run.”
Rin laughed and turned back, only to trip on a rock and fall. “I can run IF I look where I am going.” She said as she sat up, rubbing her shoulder, which had hit the ground hard.
Matt immediately ran towards her in complete panic. “Are you okay? Nothing is broken? Want me to call Billi, I can?”
“Don’t worry about it I’m fine,” Rin replied as she got back up.
:“Are you sure?” Matt asked as he held Rin between his arms,” look I think Caleb has had his fun, maybe its time we get out of here.”
“Okay but you know this is all your fault,” Rin said laughing.
”If you say so,” Matt said offering her a smile.

"alright, last one." Jeff pulled up a power conduit and held it in place. "gripping seal" all of a sudden ton clamps came and held the power coupling in place. Jeff went to one end and fully hooked it up to the rest of the system. once that was done, the computer automatically released it. Another crewman had gotten the other end.
"Should we tell the captain that we're ready?" Mrak asked him as he approached the master console.
"Not yet. we have to make sure they work first."
"how do we focus the energy. the warp coils won't just bleed off energy."
"I know that. Project a static warp field around each nacelle."
"field seems to be working."
"try flux power tests. The Aurora had a problem with that- we couldn't alter the warp power- when we did, it blew the pylons right off. It was in a manouvor, and didn't do sudden stuff. It came as a complete suprise."
"Slowly- I gotcha."
the readings held steady. there wasn't any power buildup anywhere along the line, and they got it up to full power without a hitch.
"now I'll be on the bridge." Jeff said.
he got onto the turbolift, and tapped his commbadge. "We're ready to go Colonel. I'm on my way up right now." <Zhuk>

After spending another hour or so on the bridge, chatting with the Klingon ambassador, who wasn't as rough and tough as he appeared to be, Tedak thought that now would be a good time to retire to his quarters. He'd had an eventful last two days, with very little rest and he was still having a massive headache.
"If you will both excuse me," he announced to both Matthew and Hrisvalar, "I shall retire for the rest of the day." He nodded politely towards both officers as he headed towards the turbolift.
<Matthew/Hrisvalar>
Above him, both his firelizards warbled a greeting to Theel'ziin, who warbled happily in response. ~that little blue is taking on a marine attitude~ the Romulan thought as he watched Theel'ziin sitting almost at attention, the way Hrisvalar seemed to be alert at all times. ~I suppose a pet models him or herself after his or her bondmate~ he mused. He knew T'Val's Yade could be bossy, but the green was certainly caring, and his own two were fierce defenders and often seemed to join in a debate, whether invited to or not.
He leaned against the car wall rubbing his temples. "Sickbay," he finally announced, after the computer asked him for a third time where he wanted to go, or please leave the car. Sev flew on ahead, announcing his presence even before he had entered sickbay. "Got something for a headache?" he asked, rather unnecessarily, "I've been having one ever since I arrived on the bridge after my little adventure, and I'm still nauseous."
His stomach churned, indicating that he was hungry, but food was the last thing on his mind. He suppressed a gag at the mere thought of food, even though he knew he ought to eat, or pass out then and there. "How long before you go off duty?" he finally asked Billi, "I'd like us to spend some time together, before we get thrown into the next adventure."

"Hey Daddy, I know that it has been a long time, but I just felt as getting in touch with you and mom. I know that you most likely are still mad at me, but I just couldn't help but think about you guys this mission. I know that when I left we were at our throats, but I want to get over our problems. If you want to give our relationship one more chance please contact me on the USS Jefferson."
Kristin looked at what she had written and decided that it was the best she could do. She pressed a couple of buttons and sent her letter to her parents on Risa. Kristin had been doing much thinking as of late. This mission had brought back painful memories and she wanted to atone for all the mistakes that she had committed.
The trip back to Assailant was a very slow one, but it was one that let people on the ship reexamine there choice in life. It was now well known that Lt. Garcia had been the traitor, but what surprised people more was the fact that he was willingly to kill them all for his cause. Even though his cause was unjust and selfish it didn't ask the question, What would you do for your beliefs?
That question was just growing on Kristin, who was a firm believer of family comes first. That was why she had contacted her family, she wanted to know if they would still be there for her after such a long time.
"Commander, we have done an all systems check and the transporters are all in working order," Crewman Curtis reported," in fact I think they are better know then when they were made."
"That is very good to hear, crewman," Kristin said her thoughts interrupted. There last mission had been very quiet for her department, but Kristin had kept them all busy. She would not allow them to slack off and since they all worked extremely hard, she would make sure to get all of them something really nice.

=/\= We're ready to go Colonel. I'm on my way up right now. =/\=
"Acknowledged, Commander."
Zhuk's comm badge chirped off after receiving the go ahead that all engines were back to normal. The rest of the crew were also performing final system checks, before they were officially on their way back to Assailant.
Commander Matthew had passed over one of the many and routine reports that any mission would be lacking in its entirety without them. As Zhuk was browsing over it, Tedak came over after a finished discussion with Ambassador Kralok. Kralok had already excused himself to his quarters, awaiting a transfer to a Klingon vessel that was due to pick him up while the Jefferson was on-route to SBA.
"If you will both excuse me," Tedak announced to both Matthew and Hrisvalar, "I shall retire for the rest of the day." He nodded politely towards both officers as he headed towards the turbolift. Tedak's firelizards squawked and chirped along with Theel'zhiin, before they too departed with their master.
Jeff Pudlo had made his appearance onto the bridge shortly after. "Mr. Pudlo, Mr. Johnson, let's go home. Engage at warp four."
<Jeff, Alexander>
The engines seemed to whirl up before the screen filled with specks of stars, changed to one with streaks of white lines emanating from the center and ending at the edges of the viewscreen. They were on their way home.

"Mr. Pudlo, Mr. Johnson, let's go home. Engage at warp four."
Jeff cracked his knuckles. "Power distribution is operating at 98%. We're ready to go."
Johnson soon took the ship into warp. Jeff rapped the panel with his knuckles and began writing up his post- mission report.
While Lt. Garcia sabotoged the ship, the Engineering team managed to figure out a way to remove the object causing the power-flow malfunction. While removal was simple, we did not fully know the Safety of the unorthodox procedure on the device. Ambassador Tedak was irreplaceable in that area, identifying the technology and it's treat level. We were able to remove it and restored power to the ship, though certain areas in engineering were more vulnerable then they should have been. Upon return to Starbase I will have these systems refitted to be more secure in the future. I will also be adding gravity platforms, degaussers and plasma torches to the Emergency lockers and adding safety systems to the turbo lifts. Despite obstacles, The Engineering Department worked together extremely well as a team, even when the identity of the saboteur was unknown, and they all knew that anyone could have done it. I could not ask for a better staff.

[USS Jefferson, Sickbay]
Billi looked up from the report she was writing when Sev made his appearance. “What’s up?” she asked the little firelizard as she stood and walked into the main area of sickbay, only to meet Tedak as he entered.
"Got something for a headache?" he asked, rather unnecessarily, "I've been having one ever since I arrived on the bridge after my little adventure, and I'm still nauseous."
Billi took his elbow. “Come on.” she helped him to sit on a nearby biobed. “I have just the thing.” She reached for a hypospray. “This will take care of that headache Ambassador.” putting on her best professional face since sickbay was still rather busy.
She administered the hypospray and placed the instrument back on the tray next to the biobed. “Give this a minute or two and then we’ll deal with your other problem.” She said in response to his rumbling stomach.
"How long before you go off duty?" he finally asked Billi, "I'd like us to spend some time together, before we get thrown into the next adventure."
A few minutes later she helped him off the biobed. “How about now? I was just starting on my reports, they can wait until you have eaten.” she smiled as she turned to the Assistant CMO “You have sickbay.” Billi joined Tedak and the two left sickbay heading for the Starbase they were now docked at.

They had finally made it back home, the home they knew out in deep space. "Commander Johnson, report!"
"Flight Control has given us clearance for final approach, sir. We'll be docked in twenty minutes."
Zhuk acknowledged the reply. Ambassador Kralok was picked up en route to the station by a Klingon vessel about two hours ago. The knowledge he had gained in witnessing the research first hand would hopefully go a long way to promote scientific missions amongst the Klingon empire.
Changes were at hand for the Jefferson crew. His Senior Marine Officer had come down with an alien affliction that was going to require his transfer to the SBA hospital. He was going to need some long term care. It was possible that he might even be transferred back to Earth to be closer to family members.
A mere hour ago, Zhukarak had received a subspace transmission from S47 HQ that Commander Matthew was being transferred as well, and that he was to expect a new First Officer before the Jefferson shipped back out on a new mission. He was curious as to who it might be. He knew of a few people in S47 that were eligible for such a position, and a couple that he wouldn't mind having as his right hand man.
When Zhukarak heard of this change, he went ahead and turned in a request not even sure if he would have any pull one way or another. He figured it was worth a chance considering they hadn't offered up a name yet for his new First Officer. He would soon know within the next few days.
"Sir, docking complete." Commander Johnson's voice interrupted Zhuk's train of thought.
"Commander Matthew, prepare the Jefferson for resupply. All stations prepare for shutdown procedures. Send out an R&R alert for the crew until further notice. Let's all go and relax."
Theel'zhiin hopped onto Zhuk's shoulder as he rose out of his command chair. He looked back at the chair realizing that he had just finished commanding his first mission. The rest of the bridge crew had performed the shutdown of their respective stations, and they were now awaiting for their Captain to step off the bridge. It had become customary for the Captain to depart first when back at home port...Zhuk obliged them.
